Clara are you a bearbow?
I mix it up, but over the weekend I was running dogs, I believe.

…. laughing at the end and jumping on my body was very unsportsmanlike.
I do that too, /dance on bodies. My legs hurt from so much corpsedancing outside the SF spawn in EB yesterday. 1500 unit longbow range is easy to underestimate
But SF – your evening zergs have been brutal! We were on teamspeak Friday and Saturday nights guffawing over how badly outnumbered we were so late at night. You put together an impressive grouping.

You can also get Ascended weapons from WvW, like when taking a tower.

I won’t recommend using full Celestials, while you may have the most total number of stats, but you end up not able to do well in anything.
What about full celestial gear and, for example, switching to Berserker’s trinkets when you want to spec into greater damage, or Sentinel’s trinkets for survivability?

I’m curious what other players think of general, non-specialized gear that gives a smaller flat bonus to all stats instead of a big bonus to 3 stats.
Does stacking Celestial armor:

…with Runes of Divinity:

…and Wupwup Weapons:

…result in a balanced and well-rounded character that can perform well in WvW, Dungeons, and PVE? Or, do you HAVE to be specialized in Berserker’s, Sentinel’s, etc. to be successful? Is Wupwupway viable? What are your thoughts?

It’s only been 24 hours, folks. Many players, along with myself, were dorking around behind Tequatl trying to get the Tail accomplishment.
Things will coalesce with time. Expecting elite-level teamwork from public players after just a couple attempts is unrealistic and naive. Try to be real about this and keep it all in perspective.

what i meant was, the commander should have the ability to boot the afk person out of the turrets so other people can use it.
Why should only a commander have the ability to boot an AFK? Why shouldn’t any user have that ability? Commanders should be organizing and leading, not AFK-hunting and sitting in the turret chair.
Join Darkhaven at http://www.darkhaven.us
I disagree with OP. What commanders should do is take off their tag if they’re not actively and strategically leading a group. Otherwise their tag is just going to lead the zerg under Tequatl’s feet to insta die.

One build does not rule them all. If you want to be effective against world bosses, then you’re going to need to switch off of your jack-of-all-trades spray-and-pray condition build.
Either that, or gear up with runes of Mercy so you can rez the people who understand that you can’t drop bosses by spamming conditions. This isn’t PVP.

The new boss, designed to be significantly harder and replace the previously waaaay-too-easy boss, should be killable in 3.5 minutes? Are you absolutely sure you want to stick with that story?
Join Darkhaven at http://www.darkhaven.us
There’s entirely too much whining in this thread. Too many of you think that the game is broken just because you couldn’t topple the new-and-intentionally-difficult epic boss on day 1. This could have easily gone the other way and we could all instead be complaining about how lame the new content is because the boss is so easy. Is that what you want?
Stop complaining, step up, and help coordinate something constructive like the Blackgate players did. And if you’re a whiner on Darkhaven, please do switch servers; we’re better off without you.

Yeah it’s about time we got LFG. And I would rather have Guild Halls over Super Adventure Box. Maybe in another ~360 days or so…

When a team gets the Outnumbered buff, they should also get 5 supply coming out of the spawn. Otherwise – what? – raid the reinforced enemy keep with no siege and no ability to build or repair?
We went through this on Darkhaven last night. When we weren’t bottlenecked into our spawn, we were tapping on the reinforced doors with no siege… until we got pushed back to spawn, that is.

The other classes rely heavily on their class mechanism. Without their mechanic they are boring and mostly ineffective.
I would argue that the same is true, if not MORE true, for Rangers. I can’t point to the math but I can say from experience that a Ranger with no pet is significantly less effective across the board.
But back to the purpose of this post, about “A Ranger’s Place,” what does the GW2 Ranger bring to the table that other professions don’t? The GW1 Ranger could spread conditions, interrupt, tank elemental damage, and use Expertise to reduce energy costs of many skills. So what does the GW2 Ranger do that makes it desirable and irreplaceable? Don’t say “Pets!!1” – no group is going to pass on a Guardian in favor of a Ranger’s pet.
Join Darkhaven at http://www.darkhaven.us
Rangers in GW1 suffered from rolling nerfs and a gradual reduction in power and performance, so much so, that they eventually had no place in the PVE landscape, and very little place in PVP. Unless the group was doing something ultra-specialized, no one ever said “Wait! Hold up… we can’t leave til we get a Ranger.” Some other class always found a way to do it better.
Rangers in GW2 look to be suffering from the same phenomenon since launch, with minimal improvements over 1 year. I am really disappointed to see that the Ranger’s non-specialization was directly transplanted to GW2.
You’ll see – later this month when the LFG tool rolls out, no group will be sitting around with one slot open, looking for a Ranger.

I’ve revisited the bows recently just to get out of the sword META.
Keep in mind that in PVE, enemies will run toward you, while in PVP / WvW they will often strafe laterally or run away. The shrinking distance gap in PVE isn’t very conducive to longbow, while the static / increasing gap in PVP is ideal for longbow.

Is roaming / supporting with shortbow, criticals, and bleed stacks no longer meta in WvW? I’ve been out of the game for a couple months.

Furthermore, players need to step up and block players who they find to be offensive instead of requesting help from a developer.
I agree, of course, about blocking offensive players. You’re right – that’s what the function is there for.
But I don’t think that solves everything. When players in a position of leadership act abusive and pout and effectively disrupt the gameplay for everyone on the map, then I think it’s no longer just a chat window issue – I think at that point it’s a dev. issue that needs to be revisited to find a better solution.

While the actions in the screenshot are out of line, callout threads on the forums are also out of line.
That wasn’t my intention at all, and I didn’t mean for it to be perceived that way. I edited it as you suggested (though I think it takes a minute or two for the attachment to update).

I really don’t see anything wrong with Anet stripping people of their blue arrows when they behave in this way. 100g wasted is a pretty solid lesson to learn – you can’t really afford to make that mistake numerous times.
Join Darkhaven at http://www.darkhaven.us
Let’s at least all agree on this: You don’t just accidentally buy a 100G book and become a Commander. Buying the book implies that you want to lead and teach, and that others will be looking at you to provide guidance and set an example.
If we can agree on this point, then shouldn’t our commanders be held to higher standards when it comes to swearing in chat and verbal abuse?
Take for example the Darkhaven commander in the screenshot attached here. This is not acceptable or productive for building a community on what is still a fairly new and developing game.
So should commanders be able to slide under the radar with their raging and abuse, or should instances of their misconduct be prioritized above others? If you think there are too many commanders on any given server, then let’s urge Anet to purge the ones who behave like this guy.

I didn’t think about the interface size, so I’ll give that a shot. Thanks for the advice.
Even if that works, this is still an issue

Does anyone else have a Black Lion Trading Company interface that looks like this? Some prices and text are completely illegible. I’ve been dealing with this since launch, thinking that maybe it was part of the original Black Lion problems and that it would sort itself out. But now it’s driving me crazy :\

Hold control highlights all enemies and yellows (including collectables) in the direction you are looking.
You can enable this all the time in the options menu. It’s great for seeing the text names of characters who are trying to hide behind obstructions in PVP

7/10 for Tarr Geargrind above me. The name, background, and profession fit well.
In an attempt to carry on the legacy of my characters I have based all of my GW2 characters on my characters from GW1. I had/have a short female monk in GW1 named Nina Fee, so my Charr is a short female Guardian named Nya Feercat.
EDIT: Oops – some of the posts didn’t load and I ranked the wrong name. Sorry :\

I tried to swim across a section of the channel in the SW corner of Cursed Shore and got obliterated by continuous sink, pull, and distant siege. Factor in the Risen Thralls that are too fast to kite from, and it’s just a generally un-fun experience all around.

What am I missing or not understanding?

I experienced this problem very recently too – after turning my sound quality to highest. I’d have to exit the game and restart it in order to fix it. I’ll move the quality back down some. Thanks for the tip.

With balanced gear I can take hits and deal decent dmg, using the 6 sec immune when everyone turns on me and swooping out to the back lines to recover while swapping to the bow.
What’s that about 6 seconds of immunity? Can someone elaborate on or rephrase that?

Wow – it’s great to see so much intelligent, diverse, and informative feedback. This really has me thinking now as to whether or not I want to use my Ranger for this specific role.
I agree that there’s no singular right profession for Commander and that there’s plenty of room for different play types and leadership styles.
With that in mind, it sounds as though the emphasis would need to be on speed and survivability. So for a Ranger, something like 0-15-30-20-5 trait allocation may work well, yes?

The weather changes you propose will only exacerbate the culling and rendering issue, but I like the idea.

I’ve been enjoying WvW for a while now and I may be ready to make the Commander investment. The thing is, I play a Ranger – which is fine with me – but I am curious if the class is perceived by others as conflicting with the Commander status.
What are your thoughts? Is Commander best utilized by heavy armor Warriors and Guardians that can literally lead a group into a fight, or can a backline shooter be a recognized Commander as well? All else being equal, are you more inclined to follow one over the other?

I really miss the GW1 party screen where you could view LFGs and WTBs. This game really, really needs a system that is more conducive to forming groups.
Consider the current system; the best you can do is set your status as “Looking for Group” and type 2 or 3 public LFG messages before you get squelched for talking too much. It’s a crapshoot – really.
I’m a solo player and presently I need 3 or 4 more fractals to get my (first ever) monthly. I’m pumped about it, but my excitement is dwindling because it can take hours of town chat to get a group together.
This is unacceptable for a MMO in 2012. Please consider revisiting the system for LFG and group-forming.

Back on topic – I miss having a first person view. Not because I want to play first person all the time, I just want to switch over to it if I’m in a cramped spot. Currently, the camera angles get really awkward if you’re backed into a corner.

I see a lot of people only looking at numbers, and not considering range.
You need to be pretty far away to milk the most damage out of the Longbow, and it can be very difficult – especially in PVP – to maintain that maximum distance and maintain consistent attacks. If you’re at max damage range and you fire off QZ and Rapid Fire, and your target moves closer or further – then your damage drops considerably.
Range is not a concern with the Shortbow, so damage is more consistent.
