Best place to farm/grind karma?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Clem.2963

Clem.2963

Yes, I want to grind something, get over it.

Anyway, I spotted the light exotic karma armour which can be bought in Orr and would like to get it.
Small problem… The full set costs 252K karma and after getting to level 80, finishing the personal story and getting 100% world completion I’ve only managed to get 117K karma.

So, where’s the best place to get a good, consistent amount of karma?

If the answer is just running around Orr and doing any event I come across, I think I’ll cry myself to sleep…

I’ve found this to be a big issue, bosses and other mobs will suddenly just walk off and become invulnerable. In ANet’s attempt to prevent safe-spotting, they’ve gone over the top and broken some bosses.

Is this how we can expect ANet to handle big glitches in the future?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Clem.2963

Clem.2963

No because they will have found the cause for that particular glitch and fixed it so it wouldn’t happen again. Also, even though you probably won’t be getting back any of that money, hopefully they would have implemented some secondary logging functionality so that in similar future situations they might return money to you.
The best you can do really is to avoid leaving large sums of money with the auctioneer.

Doesn’t have to be this specific issue, I’m sure there will be other significant glitches in the future.

It’s been over three days since the Trading Post crash which lead to people losing their money (lost 70 silver myself, other people claim to have lost much more) and ANet have not even acknowledged this as a glitch or something that happened.

They’re not going to get anywhere if they just keep sweeping things under the carpet. Sure, they may get away with it this time, but next time it could effect many more people, what will they do then?

Either way, they are both legitimate reasons to speak up. If you personally don’t care, then why are you even posting in this thread, other than to tell people to stop posting in this thread?

To supply my opinion in a discussion thread. Feedback is fine, but expecting your 30 minutes back is as you well know, silly.

Honestly, at this point I’m less upset about about the “lost hour” of progress than the official response (on Twitter, no less) of “Due to the nature of the outage, we will be unable to restore any progression or items. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience .” ^MK

Seriously? Are any steps being taken to ensure this doesn’t happen again? Quite frankly I don’t really feel like playing again until I at least know what happened and have some sort of official statement towards a repeat of this incident not occurring in the future.

If compensation cannot be forthcoming (and enjoy the fallout on that, btw), then at least do the professional thing and address this issue in an official channel (not Twitter).

Wait… Wait… They choose to make comment on their Twitter page, but not on their OFFICIAL forums? Amazing…

Aside from those minor, but useful stat bonuses, it shows your guild’s emblem and is a show of achievement. It’s particularly useful if you want to keep the cultural armor bodypiece, but still show off your guild’s emblem.0

If you’re this upset over 30 minutes of progress being lost in a computer game then you need to step back and take a real hard look at your priorities.

I was wondering when some twit was going to post this obnoxious comment (no, I was not baiting it, but after I posted my thread, I just knew someone would say it).

Sure, so far it’s only happened once and it was only around 30 minutes (probably closer to an hour when I think about it).
But now that it’s happened, what’s to say it won’t happen again and more than 30-60 minutes is lost when it does.

Maximum 4GB, yes.

As previously said, it’s a combo board which supports both DDR2 and DDR3, however you cannot use DDR2 and DDR3 at the same time.

DDR3 is cheaper than DDR2, grab a 4GB (2×2GB) DDR3 kit.

They are two quite significant bottlenecks for this game.

Anything less than a 1st gen i series will be an issue, especially if it’s only a dual core. The game also loves memory and 2GB is quite low.

Ideally, you want a new CPU and more RAM (which means new motherbaord as well).
Seeing as your memory is so low, I’d imagine just adding more would see a reasonable improvement without costing much.

Yes, this game has a LOT of really good stuff going for it

and this is what you can choose to hold onto, or let go and leave. there’s nothing anyone can say. it’s a weighing of pros and cons.

for me, market being down initially meant nothing. i dont care much for lore so the Zaitan fight doesnt impact my opinion of the game. i dont need to 100% complete everything, so i dont care about an odd glitchy DE or skill quest. etc.

youre right on all of your points. do you care enough to leave and come back a little later when the dust has settled? up to you. given your lack of experience with MMO’s, id like to emphasize that this release was the smoothest in MMO history, hands down, believe it or not (except for TSW maybe, but that game is skin and bones in comparison to what ANet achieved). if you look at the rate at which ANet is repairing the game, you might feel a little better.

Well I guess the best way of looking at it is; yes, the majority of this stuff should be fixed within the first month or so.

Hopefully by the time I start on my next character, I won’t have to deal with the above, again. It really does gives you a negative feeling for your initial play-through, though.

I guess ANet are lucky in that most reviewers aren’t going to wait until they hit level 80 and complete the story before writing their review.
Now it took me ~150 hours to get to level 80 and I don’t expect reviewers to put that much time into the game before they review it, but I’m sure if most did, there would be less praise.

I’m not someone who gets too into lore, either, but I was still miffed with the Zhaitan battle. It just didn’t make any sense that the two lesser dragons (prior to Zhaitan battle) were more of a challenge than the boss of all bosses.

It would have been better had they just shown a cut-scene where you launch a nuke (or what ever the fantasy equivalent of a nuke is) at Zhaitan killing him in one hit. Sure, still would have been incredibly underwhelming, but at least we wouldn’t have had to waste 5 minutes mashing the number 2 key.

Level 80 Player's Problems With the Undead (Orr/Risen) Zones

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Clem.2963

Clem.2963

Orr was clearly designed to be conquered with a large group of people. Problem is, (at least, this early in the game) there’s rarely enough people around to help do something.

I dunno why they thought it was a good idea to put tough boss events right on top of skillpoints, because it can be really difficult at times just to get enough people together to help clear the event.

Hopefully once the more casual players reach level 70-80 and start entering the Orr region, it won’t be such a challenge.

Sometimes things go awry. There’s a heavier load on the servers than when people were in beta. Things will break.

That’s exactly right, which is why I don’t understand why they did not open up the betas.
I’m sure there were many people like myself who were planning to play in first week, but did not pre-purchase. I pre-ordered a hard copy from somewhere which were not given beta keys.

If they’d opened up the betas (I can only remember one or two open betas, long before launch), they would have had a better idea of what to expect and possibly wouldn’t have had to halt digital sales for a week or so there.

PS. Bloody forums don’t even work properly, had to retype all that.

Ok, I came into this game without any real expectations. My past MMORPG experience was in a game (which I’m almost ashamed to mention) nothing like GW2, WoW or anything similar so their wasn’t really the possibility that this game was just going to be another MMORPG that I’ve played before.

When I first jumped into this game, it was like; mind=blown, it was amazing, and it stayed amazing for quite some time.

However as I’ve leveled higher and progressed through both the personal story and different areas, my attitude towards the game has gone down just as quickly as it went up.

Problems started to arise when I started in got to the level 60+ areas (there are bugs in lower level areas which I did not get to until later) where I found stuck skillpoints and stuck dynamic events.

To begin with, it was just 1 or 2 in total for an area, but as I got to the Orr region… It was far worse. The whole Orr region is/was a complete mess with at least two stuck skillpoints and two stuck events per map.

For someone like myself who likes to complete an area as they go through it, stuck skillpoints were a huge pain in thekitten and of course stuck events mean the meta event cannot continue. To add to that, the stuck events lead to 75%+ of the waypoints being contested which (on top of the rage-inducing mobs in the region) made getting around the biggest challenge to be found in Orr.

Unfortunately the bad does not end there, here’s some more evidence (contains more bugs) that the game was released before it was finished.

-Trading Post being constantly down. I think it’s spent more time “under maintenance” than working.

-Lost money due to TP crash. I guess you could say I was lucky in that I have lost a relatively small amount (70 silver… So far…) compared to other people.
It’s been two days since this happened and ArenaNet have not made a single constructive comment on the issue. All they’ve said is; herpkittenit should be working.

-Bugged quests. I cannot remember the name of the quest, but I think it was in the 40s, you had to swim through the tunnels beneath Lion’s Arch.
The first THREE times I tried to do this quest, I got disconnected from the game.
The fourth time I tried to do this quest, it would not progress (I killed the final thing, and the quest would not ‘complete’).It wasn’t until the fifth attempt that I was actually able to finish the quest.
Other glitches in this quest included both ally and enemy NPCs clipping through walls.
It’s like they didn’t even test this quest.

-Hands down the most anti-climactic and underwhelming final boss battle I have ever seen in a game.
There is NO WAY the devs looked at what they did with the Zhaitan battle and concluded that was a fitting battle. Spamming the number 2 key (yes, that is all you do, you don’t touch any other buttons) for five minutes isn’t even a battle. That battle just screams rushed release.

-A bit of a minor addition to the above – Bugged loot. I assume this is a bug, I certainly hope ANet did not intentionally reward level 80s doing a level 80 quest with blue and green level 60 & 70 (some people got stuff below level 50) gear. This was just more junk I had to sell to a merchant.

-Rollbacks. The most recent of bugs I’ve encountered is losing a decent amount of progress.

There’s no doubt more, but this is what I’ve experienced.

Yes, this game has a LOT of really good stuff going for it, but that does not excuse so many bugs.

ArenaNet said Guild Wars 2 would not be released until it was ready for release. Well… We know they didn’t follow through with that, which leads me to the question.
Given the choice, would you rather the game wasn’t released until the game was actually finished and all the major bugs were dealt with OR are you happy playing an unfinished game, just so you can play it as soon as you can?

Sure, I couldn’t wait to play Guild Wars 2, but I would have rather waited a month or so more if it meant my time in Guild Wars 2 would not be so frustrating.

EDIT: Added a severely bugged quest I had trouble with.

Just lost about 30 minutes of progress

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Clem.2963

Clem.2963

After working on map completion for an area, I logged out to character select but was given some connection error.
I didn’t think anything more of it and went off to do some other stuff.

Now I come back and log in to find a good 30+ minutes of progress down the drain. At least two hearts, one or two skillpoints, a vista and a few POIs that I completed, all reset.

Oh and of course, the TP is down AGAIN.

When will this game be fit for release? We were told Guild Wars 2 would be released when it was finished, well this obviously wasn’t the case because nearly every day I find a new bug.

Anyone else had this happen?

Ugh, this gets boring and annoying.

On the Claw Island quest where you had to deal with ~6 giants, I had to lure them out one at a time and run around in circles for 5-10 to kill each one, was hella dumb.

I feel water really needs to be buffed. You don’t heal that much and you do crap all damage.

Elementalist: Trial and Error Style Unacceptable

I’ve played an Elementalist through to level 80 and yeah, staying alive can be tricky.

I’ve completed the personal story and found a lot of fights in the middle part of the personal story very difficult but once I got to around level 60, the quests started to get much easier.

Ele seems to be able to put down a lot of damage over a large area, but this is rarely useful.
I primarily use dual daggers, which suits my wannabe-rambo play style and with daggers, both fire and air can deal a decent amount of damage.

I haven’t actually put much time into another class yet (got a lvl 3 necro and 2 warrior), so until I do that, I won’t have a good idea on how ele compares to the rest.
