10,000 bots banned? so how come I see the same bots and all those I reported weeks ago still in action, I’ve had all those reported added to my friend list to see if those accounts have been banned, but no they are still active.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
Back when I played Runes of Magic, I bought diamonds (their cash shop currency) and traded them for gold on their auction house. Their market is player regulated without a ridiculous exchange rate as both the buyer and the seller had to agree to the price set. It allowed market forces because for someone to buy diamonds with gold, there had to be someone selling diamonds for gold and vice-versa. There doesn’t appear to be any such thing in GW2 which is a fatal flaw.
If I recall correctly they removed this ability and you can no longer exchange diamonds for gold or vice versa through the auction house, unless they re-introduced it recently.

I don’t have experience developing something this massive, but I can tell you botting is tricky to deal with. Obvious bots are simple to catch and ban, but even then devs more often than not rely on player reports to find them. There are hundreds of thousands of players; filtering out bots is trickier than it seems.
Also, you can ban them, but making new ones is just as easy for the botters themselves. That’s why you keep seeing bots everywhere – they get banned, they just come back again. Even if you block a third party program or flag a specific behavior pattern, bot scripts can just be updated to circumvent it. Ever notice how anti-piracy measures for major games get cracked within hours? It’s very similar – you can get rid of botters quickly; they’ll figure out a way to come back just as quickly.
Sophisticated bots can be hard to catch, too, since their behavior can be very close to that of a legitimate player, and you may well end up banning someone wrongly.
It would be quite helpful to have in-game GMs who can handle bot suspicions immediately as they get reported, I’ll say that much. I’ve reported obvious bots before that were still there after several hours.
The Bots have been reported repeatedly by players including myself, the same bots are still running around the same places and have never been acted on for weeks. The need for GM’s to run around every map and server is not cost effective and is not needed when players are already reporting them. All that is needed is data on the characters that have been reported which would show the length of time online over a 24 hr period, the co-ordinates the character has logged over that period, the data of a paper trail on the items they collect. If the system can recognise chat spam then it should be able to recognise character movement and flagged up on to the system.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
Its not just the bots they need to deal with. its the account that these bots are farming for, they are not stupid enough to keep all the items and gold on the bots account. Since the halloween patch the bots have returned in force, even more than there was before the patch.

I’m not off base at all. They said cool looking skins will require work and be prestigious. Guess what? You’ll have to work to get these because you’ll need some keys.
They mislead no one. They added the items to the loot table of the chests, you might get one. You might not. They said you had a chance, you have a chance.
Just to remind you off the advert>
All kinds of tricks and treats are coming to the Gem Store this Halloween. Costumes that grant spooky skills, tonics that transform you into ghouls and ghosts, creepy crawly minis to follow you around. And don’t forget to pick up your free devil horns before they disappear!
The Black Lion Chest is getting a spooky upgrade for Halloween. Between October 23 and November 5 each Black Lion Chest you open has a chance to give you one of six exclusive Halloween-themed weapon skins!
So by your’e reckoning someone spending 50 bucks on keys and not getting any items in connection with halloween is acceptable? Nowhere in that advert does it say players will have a very slim chance or no chance at all from obtaining anything, nor does it state that the items are rare or unique, and before you start rambling on about the word exclusive, that word is so loosely used it could of meant anything. Any other business that advertised like that would of been hit hard by trading standards.

Hilarious how a company outright says “cool looking weapon skins will be ultra rare. You will need to work hard to get them” and people ignore this come event time and think that cool looking skins will magically appear on trees.
Face the facts guys; if you want cool looking weapon skins, it will cost you time and/or money. They said this from the start before launch.
Your off base, its not about gaining any skins through crafting, the subject is about the chests and how Anet has mislead the community, players spend a lot off money on keys then getting no halloween items as stated in their advert.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
People are exploitable and Anet knows this and they are doing it full on, People will want shiny things regardless which game you play and each and everyone of you who plays an mmo or any other game will chase that shiny item in whatever form it is in.
The way Anet is doing it is in the form of gambling, they are exploiting players desires, they have set up the cash shop in such a way that players will spend money to get ahead, yes you can play without using the cash shop, but you know aswel as I that players have a “want it now” mechanism set into the brain. Who is to blame? personally I believe both are to blame, players and the Developers, Developers know how players think so they are exploiting that weakness. Doing what Anet did with the chests was a bit naughty as they did word it as if you had a really good chance of getting a Halloween skin, in other words they mislead the community.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
Good job some of you guys never played FFXI.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
You are not guaranteed to receive a rare item after opening a Black Lion Chest. You have a chance to get a unique/rare item. Some people are luckier than others. The Halloween skins are tradeable, so if you aren’t able to get them in a Black Lion Chest, you can obtain them on the Trading Post.
Oh come on Regina, what about youngsters who have spent pocket money on keys supporting your Product and being young and emotional are probably really upset wasting their allowance, and kitten right they should be upset. Its nothing but exploitation of players want of cool looking items.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
Personally I think its disgusting, Colin wants to man up and talk to their fans and players about how players have spent a fortune on chests and not got any Halloween event items.
They claim to be gamers that enjoy making and playing games, I’m beginning to think the games they enjoy playing are in the casino.
I’ve always supported Anet in the past, but this game with all its lottery ideas is losing my faith in the company. I’m seeing nothing but pure greed and preying on players obsession on wanting something nice for their character.

“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
Reducing the spawn rate and making some adjustments to spawn rates including DE’s may deter a lot of the botting, I’d also like to see some roaming bosses that require groups to kill in specific areas of each map or hard roaming mobs that use specific fighting tactics to interfere with bots. This was done in FFXI to deal with fishing bots and worked well.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
I don’t disagree, but there are other MMO’s that have equal and in a couple of cases better breathtaking worlds.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
Rich and poor are words created by humans to describe thier share of our planets finite resources. We should live in a world where those resources are evenly distributed but, unfortunatley our puny little brains aren’t capable of developing the technology to replace human labor with mechanical labor… yet.
In a video game Rich and Poor have absolutely no meaning. The resources are infinite, not finite. If they are finite; then their supply is artificially suppressed. Keep that in mind.
Not sure what you are getting at with replacing human labour with mechanical labour, A lot of jobs have been lost over the years due to mechanical labour, machines are constantly replacing people, as good and efficient these machines are, technology has its downside, larger profit margins, larger output, less jobs for people, price of goods still going up, doesn’t create a good economy.

What is the point in having separate region servers if US times are gonna be used for EU servers anyway ?
X event launch Oct 22 US 8pm PST
X event launch Oct 22 EU 8pm GMTIf not done like this just merge the regions because there’s no freaking point to have them !
Agreed, I guess Anet have to favour their country men.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
Everyone as in european players? So that would have launched at noon for me, while I’m at work. Gee, “I’m getting screwed”.
But still you get to participate on the 22nd as advertised like we was told it would start. Most players in EU won’t even participate until they get back from work which will be around 18 hrs after the event starts.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
Can we please stop with the “I’m getting screwed” comments? What are we, 12? There’s no way to launch content where 100% of everyone, everywhere, can enjoy it evenly all the time.
They could of been smarter though and satisfied most of the player base and released 4-5hrs earlier.

Patches always happen around noon Pacific time, I’m not sure why people are expecting something different this time.
The patch is happening at 5pm Pacific time.
Yeah just saw the tweets, booooo
ACT 1 of the “Shadow of the Mad King” update will go live late this afternoon (Pacific time), do not expect it until past midnight GMT.
Thanks Anet, lets screw the EU players.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
Strange, my experience with GW2 compared to other MMO’s is that GW2 is the least social MMO I have ever played. Guilds I gave up on and created my own due to the fact guild leaders are only interested in you creating influence to upgrade, no events created or social interaction, groups for dungeons are dire, again no verbal or chat communication, plinx groups are just a zerg on events and again lack of any social interaction with fellow group members, just follow and spank. Map chat is either full of players telling others to use google or created links to websites if its not that its flaming.
Even WoW as terrible as the chat channels were, it was more social in comparison.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
Same, I have added the names of the bots to my friend list to see if they have acted on my reports, the same bots still continue after weeks of being reported. Even if they do suspend them or ban them the owners just log a complaint and deny everything and they get their accounts back.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
So correct me if I’m wrong, the event starts on the 23rd for EU players not the 22nd as Anet advertised?
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
They are more of a problem in GW2 because they are effecting DE’s, if they are farming near these events then the DE scales up making it more difficult for legit players to complete. I’m also convinced wrongly or rightly that they are causing some events to bug.
The other issue is that they are deflating prices on the TP, some enjoy this benefit naturally, but others including myself are getting tired of it.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
Now they are creating guilds for them to try and make them look less suspicious.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
Seriously its out of hand, if its not botters its goldsellers farming, and just recently come across a group of bots speed hacking near R&D in Orr, keep reporting all these guys and still farming the favourable spots constantly.
Personally I’m done. Cya.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
@Pandemniac the tonics as far as I’m aware have been changed to mystery and now stack, I am guessing for the reason you stated, but I still see little value in chests to warrant buying keys, each to their own though.
I was going to buy the pirate outfit, but because these are town clothing items and couldn’t transmute to my armour, I decided not to purchase, as I don’t stand around at any one spot to long to warrant the purchase.
Personally I would of thought more armour skins would of been at the forefront of the gem store, but this isn’t the case, and am a bit bewildered as to why Anet didn’t go that route as I’m sure more people would of been inclined to spend more on gems, and I’m almost certain others would of thought the same.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
Subjective question really, but how do you feel about what is available, and what is the best value for money (gold) item and the worst in your experience?
For me the Box of fun is probably the most over valued item I experienced when testing in Beta so I have never touched it since and the chests have proven of very little worth. I have spent most gems on dye packs so I’d say that has been the best value for me closely followed with bank expansion.
Please keep civil and on track, as I’m sure that Anet would be interested in your feedback on this subject, although they have data on what people spend their gems on.

Palit GTX 260 never had an issue with graphics, runs well even with all options turned up to full.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
Without spoiling it to much but boss fights are some of the most disappointing I have ever encountered in any MMO. I can’t say I have ever felt so unrewarded in an MMO after defeating a boss as I have done with GW2 bosses, and I don’t mean in a monetary way.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
Check you done every city, I thought I done Black Citadel, but I hadn’t, also check you done PvP training area Heart of the Mists its on your Hero tab bottom left of window. and as above poster said, check all 3 borderlands again.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
Use Armour with toughness and healing, and slot some runes in with Vitality or more of another stat you would like, and then use jewellery with stats that you would be looking for, also jewellery can have their gem slots over written with whatever gems you prefer.
I use the dwayna rune set in my Knights Draconic armour which helps with healing and regeneration, and use emerald and sapphire jewellery with exquisite emerald jewels which applies power, precision, toughness and healing. My vitality isnt great at 1500 ish, but my toughness although isnt the best at just over 1900 I survive very well and on most days I can do events after events without ever falling. I think I have a very well balance character, not the best in one specific area, but I seem to hold my own very well in both PvE and PvP.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
Most armour does look a little drab and samey as you level up through the content, but as you hit 80 you will find some nice sets from both Karma and dungeon token vendors.
I think my Guardian looks pretty neat now.

Agreed, as a MTGO player, all land or no land blocks proofs that often.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
I have been using MF gear and food to clear the maps for my 100% completion, I never seen a difference in drop rates or gathering, in the 5 days it took me to clear the last of the 7 maps and towns, using MF I had 2 rares drop, strangely when doing a level 55 – 60 area in my normal gear as I was levelling up I had 3 rares drop one after the other.
Another example on 2 occasions fighting the Dragon in Frostgorge, on opening the chest whilst fully buffed to my ears with MF I received all greens and blues, oddly on another 3 occasions wearing my more serious battle gear with no MF I have received rares.
I’m aware that its not solid data, but I don’t think any number crunching and data collecting en-masse is really required to proof that MF has no significant effect on drops, if any at all. But if you believe that cracking a mirror brings you 7 yrs bad luck then carry on believing.

Just to add if anyone isn’t aware of it, Microsoft have stated that they will not issue a licence for any games that are 18 certified, not saying they won’t be playable on Win 8. For me it comes across as Microsoft are trying to control what we view or play.

I would kindly advice not to touch Windows 8, PC’s are open platforms and should in no way be closed and that is exactly the route Microsoft is going with windows 8.
If I want my OS to look like a tablet or moby interface then i’d use a tablet or mobile device.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
500+ hours and 2 lvl 80’s I have never seen a key drop, there is only 3 ways to obtain a key outside of the cash shop:
- Reward for map completion
– Reward from a story mission
– As an item from opening a Black Lion Chest.
Keys did drop from mobs in Beta, but Anet for some apparent reason removed this in the released version. People claiming to have keys drop from mobs are telling porkies. They also removed better rewards from the chests, personally I thought the Beta was misleading in regards to the chests, and made a lot of people supporting Anet in regards to these chests against the nay sayers look stupid.
Though have to say in addition that Anet made a lot of claims in their Manifesto and during the year leading to the release of GW2 that have not lived up to the claims they originally claimed during interviews, pre-release events and promotional media.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
I’m not sure if this is a bug or not, I know the mechanism is in there to tackle spam, but I didnt do any spamming, but although I was doing a shout for LFG to get members for a dungeon, it was not in anyway spammed and was probably repeated at no more than every 2 – 3 mins at the worst.
My (map) chat function was suppressed for nearly a whole 10 minutes, the other group member had the same issue after doing a shout for members and repeated his message in (map) chat twice in a space of around 8 minutes.
If this is intentional can we have an indication on how or when the suppression kicks in?
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
After spending an hour searching and shouting for people to do story mode for Ascalon Catacombs which proved fruitless. Would Anet consider amalgamating the story into explorable or dumbing it down a bit so that we can get to explorable?
I along with many other people have not burnt our way through the game like the other 80 % or so and now have real difficulty finding members to create a group to tackle the story mode version of these dungeons, those that have already done story are not wanting to rerun that mode and only wish to do the explorable modes, and I cannot blame them.
A solution is needed to whichever you feel could resolve this problem.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
If you create specific drops on these type of mobs, then we will start to see camp farming, and then the QQ’s will start because peeps never get the drops after bashing the same mob 40+ times a day.
Personally I avoided these type of mobs mainly for the same reasons most others do, and they are just time consuming.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
I think GW2 will struggle to hold players interest in its current state, forced grinding to obtain anything is a big turn off, and the rewards for big meta events are really lacking, with the added nerving to the farming experience is a stab in the groin. 24hr respawn on high level Orichilacum ores was really a kick in the gut for people like me who craft. On top of the former mentioned problems and other issues I havn’t touched on are the botters and Gold-sellers that plague nearly every area, and don’t get me started about Anets promises in its manifesto.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
I had that bug on a couple of mobs yesterday, I just circled until I landed a hit, on another I stopped attacking and moved away until the mob ran to me and attacked, not ideal but fixed the issue for me.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
They have a few things to fix, and fixed pronto.
- Botters
- Goldsellers
- DR’s
- Pricing of Cultural armour and Weapons (far to expensive for casual game)
- Mystic Forge (losing items in the forge just enrages me, so I refuse to use it again)
Just to name a few of the top of my head. Anets refusal to discuss or deal with the issues doesn’t help in giving me any confidence that they will fix these things.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
I don’t use FB and have no intention to, but I do use Twitter, and has served me well for information. I’m not particularly a fan of social networks and don’t trust the owners with my personal information. I was a regular YouTube user and had a good list contributors on my favourite list, but with Google taking it over, I had to un-subscribe because they do insist that I sign into everything else they own, which irritates me to no end.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
Probably will get shot down for this but thought we could list all the players botters are bottng that we see, get some random data going and maybe some quicker bans.
There are currently 10+ botters running around sparkfly fen around the united arcanist lab location.
All rangers, all spamming 1, all wearing same armor skins, following exact repeatable route across enemy spawn locations, they all have names like zzzttcxxoo etc etc. They are all using the teleport hack.
I would praise your efforts, but mods would just close the thread, and Anet have all the reported bots through the reports we already send in-game, gold sellers and bots are not being dealt with and I asked a question regarding why these vermins are still active in another thread. I know Anet are busy, but would be nice if they took some quality time out to start giving reassurances that they are doing something about it. Hitting players with DR’s and putting 24hr respawn timers on nodes isnt helping players, its driving the prices up, doubled since they announced the 24hr timer.
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
Only read first 2-3 posters so apologise if already mentioned, but if you create a specific class that removes conditions then that class will be targeted 1st at every opportunity, as it is in other MMO’s where certain classes are taken out first (Healer > Mages > other dps then tanks last) I think its better if every class has an ability to remove conditions as they can now, that’s how it is and works better for everyone imo. Don’t need to create DR’s on conditions, just make them unstackable or a null effect, the effects can trigger but wouldn’t apply until the first effect has worn, but then you would have to reactivate the effect to make it re-apply.
