I miss my Gear Grind

So many of you would propose that if someone doesnt like one part of the game they shouldnt play it? Do you really want people to leave the game? Seriously? Yes people bought a game where skill is more important than grind, maybe they hadnt tried that kind of style before; this is likely their first foray into this type of endgame.

I like that I dont have to grind to do content, but to tell people to gtko is just childish and harmful to the community as a whole. People can have different opinions, it is no more your game than it is theirs. If players ask Anet for a grind and they deliver, will you leave? If so then keeping with your opinion; “good ridance, go play something else scrub.”

And apparently people like to feel some sort of progression. If at lv 41 I could do the same damage as at 80, but my health was doubled, that would suck. Sandboxes are awesome, but without buffer content (building something, maintaining something, collectables) I dont personally find them fufilling if there is nothing to work towards.

Given the ammount of threads/complaints/complaints about complaints it is obvious that there is a significant ammount of people who view this as a problem. “It is fine with me so kitten everyone else” is not a very mature way to handle people trying to see the game evolve into what they want.

Oh and P.S- I dont like grinding, and prefer that it stay purely aesthetic; however I respect those that wish to see a meater grinding system.

No mounts - I simply don't understand...

I can’t believe this discussion is still going on.

You do not need mounts. You do not need mounts. You do not need mounts.

Three points are all you need.

-Most classes have a speed buff of some kind.

-Waypoints are placed all over the map, and the game is balanced to make the cost to use them not completely outrageous.

-Guild Wars 2 encourages exploration. Running around and into something. The entire leveling progression is balanced around this mechanic. This is also the case in WvW. Dying means something. If you’re out alone you are vulnerable. It encourages you to stay in groups so you can be revived from being downed/killed. Mounts would just see massive assaults on far reaching corners of the map and it would be impossible for one side to maintain momentum because of how scattered people are.

Stop treating this game from a WoW-esque standpoint already. I played WoW since vanilla release, and I find Guild Wars 2 to be the most refreshing take on an MMO to date (Played Ultima Online, EQ1, FFIX as well.)

So many people are automaticly agianst things that WoW has done in some way and constantly seem to bring WoW up. If WoW was your mother, then Freud would have a field day.

Yes most proffs have a speed buff, well kitten to those that dont. Waypoints are everywhere, and I think the cost if fine; it is just I would like there to be something inbetween walking through an area, and just skipping it. Once I have explored an area, I would like to be able to briskly move through it on my epic kittencrushing mount, is that really so bad? Should I have to be bored running through a place I have seen 50 times, or feel obligated to do events that I have done 5o times?

WvWvW mounts would be terrible, but keeps should have waypoints built into them automaticly, this would stop a lot of the no mount complaints and would make taking keeps all the sweeter. You would still need to run to battles, but you could say a lot of pointless time.

And to the people who are argueing about how historically getting troops into battle, and where to use manpower was/is very important. This is a fantasy game, one where some stuff doesnt make sense. No fighting force in history would make individual soldiers run to the battle, they would organize battalions and then send them in waves. If the game did that it would be awesome; but now the choice is to run alone (possibly getting ganked) and hope that the battle will still be there, or sit around hoping enough ppl will zone in so that you have some backup.

The game right now is awesome, and while it doesn’t need mounts, it doesnt need for them to be absent. I have been on the forums way too much this past day, time to actually go play the game. later peeps

PvP Class / Armor / Stats they need to mean something

If damage should not depend on armor class, then neither should toughness. If you can take more hits and do the same ammount of damage, then clearly this is an issue of imbalance. I dont want them to destroy my gaurdian with nerfs, and to be fair I feel that the current system allows for builds to decide if you want survivability or damage, rather than proffession.

I do feel the OPs frustration that class and armor types dont seem to matter, but in the same way I am frustated that my char runs on all fours the same speed a norn jogs in place. It is a gripe, but the game is better for it.

Sorry Airala but I’m going to go with what they’ve actually said – “there are no mounts in GW2,” instead of what someone wants to hear. that is missing the on intial release that was tacked on the end of that. They are talking about flying mounts in both interviews, and I am not saying the "yet* is definitive, all I am saying is that they have left themselves room to implement them.

If you can find them saying that the game will never have mounts, that doesnt have a carefully worded “on intial release”, or isnt specifically talking about flying mounts, then go ahead rock my world. In my first post. I was curious to see where they said it would never have mounts( that it isnt that kind of game) then after searching and getting inaccurate summaries of interviews; I got a harsher on people saying that it did.

Until then I have to wonder if you have read your links, or if might be a troll. Sometimes I fear people lack basic reading comprehension, read the links provided. Decide for yourselfs if they make a definitive “omgeerrrd no mounts eva, this aint WoW you scrubs” or if they leave room open for it to be added at a later date if players really wanted them.

I dispute this decision, and believe it is the biggest problem. I’m on the verge of putting it down until mounts come out at this stage.

Then you won’t be picking it up again I guess… because the developers have made their feelings abundantly clear on this subject – no mounts.

If that’s so game-breaking for you, then feel free to stop playing. No one should play any game they’re not enjoying, and if you require mounts for your enjoyment, then you’re probably going to be happier in a game that provides them.

This isn’t one of those games, and ANet has said it’s not going to be.

I’m enjoying it so much I want to play it through again, that is the problem at hand. The game needs re-playability to survive in the long run, do you honestly believe people wanna re-explore the whole world a second time on foot? I honestly find it impossible to believe they would do this to themselves. Can u find me a post where mods have said with 100% certainty that they wanna do this to themselves and us? That would be most useful, I was unable to find this, instead found a ton of players who said the mounts will come in due time, but the average poster is reliable as ever…

http://www.guildmag.com/community-interview-with-colin-johanson

The only form of “mounts” in the game will be as part of gameplay… sort of like being turned into a pig or mountain cat for an RH. Otherwise, Colin Johanson – who I’d say is about as authoritative about the future of GW2 as it gets – says the game won’t have them.

Or how about Eric Flannum as a source?
http://www.guildmag.com/pcgameplay-gw2-interview

And just to mention – as an elementalist, I can maintain a near-constant 33% speed boost simply by spec’ing appropriately in my traits (20 into air w/Quick Glyphs & Inscription) and using my glyph for health. I have a constant regenerating (and stacking) 33% swiftness boon. My husband says that trying to swim behind me is like following a motorboat in a rowboat… I have to admit, my short little asuran legs kicking in the water DO kick up a little wake that is somewhat similar. LOL

All Colin Johanson said is that you wont have a flying zepplin mount on release( in reference to the trailer) , all Eric Flannum said is that they thought about flying mounts but decided against it. This is hardly indicative of a firm stance against land mounts. I am still waiting to here where they condemn land mounts and say they wont ever have them. Also, I am glad you have perma swiftness, really I am; but my build cant do that, and by kitten I want something awesome to ride.

It seems like people are just drawing conclusions from very vague statements, the devs where smart they didnt say that they wouldn’t (in case the majority of the player base really wanted them, or so they could have something to put in the game at a later date). You should show that you are against them, since hopefully they will see the base is divided and will listen to you, but please dont put words in their mouths.

Shadowflare, I think you mean half-kittened. The moderators can be fairly strict about small stuff like that for some reason, so please take note.

Getting to battles in WvWvW is a hassle, like I said before, having mounts their would be bad, but keeps should just have the waypoints in them. Yes you should try not to die and travel in groups, but if you just arrive and everyone is fighting on the other side of the map you are kittened. Waypoints are costly and most of the time no one wants to be altruistic since the keeps can be taken, they can lose interest in WvWvW, and you cannot travel to contested keeps.

most of all because players with mounts will not join events, will not care so much about dead people and would reach too easily waypoints and points on map.

Make mounts lv 80 only, then they have as much reason to do the things you listed throughout the world as they do now. If your goal is to move through an area as quickly as possible then your motivation to enter into event and res people is the same.

I really don’t want to insult anyone but it just boggles my mind that people see lack of added options as something better.

The same people who argue that gear progression is terrible and shouldnt be in the game, are often the same people who would feel driven to run the gear treadmill if it existed. They would rather it not be an option, so they do not feel obligated to use those options in order to keep up with their fellow players.

Right now players can reach max level, get decent gear, and not have to worry about being vastly inferior to other players who have run the treadmill longer than them. In a way it seems that progression is the goal of both parties, they just disagree on how far progression should go and how much a gap it should create.

For some reason the quote system wont work but:

Not for a speed boost, characters move fast enough as it is now.

This is your opinion, personally(and others in this thread agree) I dont think I move fast enough when after walking halfway across a WvWvW map, the battle I was racing to is over.

Not for fast travel, there’s waypoints/gates.

Fair, but some people prefer to walk briskly through the landscape, not skip around everywhere

Not for aesthetics, mounts are usually ugly and just clutter up everything.

Once again, this is your opinion. I have no doubt in my mind that anet could make epic looking mounts. If they are disabled in cities and in combat, I dont see how they would lead to the clutter we see in WoW.

Not because of immersion or lore, this is GW, not something else.

So what? Just because this is GW they cant add or change anything?

Not because of collecting, there’s miniatures.

I like collecting mounts, I like collecting miniatures. This is like saying why collect coins, you can collect stamps. Some people like collecting different things.

I see no reason why we shouldnt have them if people want them, they cool to look at and dont harm the game in any way. Back and forth from these point of views seem mute though. Opinion verses opinion really doesnt seem like it would lead to anything productive. Zephire.8049 pointed out a really good reason not to; time trade off from fixing bugs, and producing actual content. This just seems logical, and I find this argument satisfactory.

“Will there be mounts?
Other than map travel and asura gates, there will be no other methods of long distance travel such as mounts, ships, etc in Guild Wars 2 upon initial release.

Other than this where do they make it abundantly clear? This is asked with sincerity since this was the only thing a search brought up. I am fine with the game not having mounts, but I really dont see the argument against aesthetic mounts; which, come on would be hella cool.

Horses died out a long long time ago. No centar would let another “ride” them. They are a race of people not beasts. Doylaks are slower than walking. I would like to see the Asura that tries to “mount” a Charr, and tell them where to go.(seen this in another thread)

There are no mounts. No domesticated animal that can be used as a mount. It’s lore breaking. Just deal with it

So they couldnt have spectral animals to ride, have mechanical mounts, make moas a little bigger, or idk maybe make a new creature? I dont see how any of those are lorebreaking. If they cant add new creatures to the game without breaking lore, how will an expansion ever be released?

And realism( I know you said lore, but in the same vein) is not really this games strong suit, I mean my char runs on all fours at the same speed a norn jogs in place. Mounts would be fun, interesting, and downright awesome; plus if they just gave swiftness, wouldn’t harm the game in any way. So why not?

Why not just have a mounts grant perma swiftness while riding them? Some classes can nearly perma swift and I dont think an extra 33% would break the balance or exploration of the game. Plus that lets them make mounts more about aesthetics (like spvp gear)rather than an uber advantage over someone who doesnt have one. They could require a bit of a grind, be unique to your personal story, rewarded for achieves, the possibilities are endless.

Flying mounts; no that would cause all the problems seen with it in wow and require a major over haul of the game

Underwater mounts; that would be super awesome, I can already imagine my engineers submarine.

Mounts in pvp; no, it would be let players run past each other instead of engaging in skirmishes which are really cool. WvW would be solved by keeps having waypoints automatically rather than having to invest heavily for something that you could easily lose or not use. Just my 2 cents

Housing?

in Suggestions

Posted by: Colton.9460

Colton.9460

+1

Then give us GW2 expansion sets like Pets, Bon Voyage or Mansion&Garden stuff set.

Anyway a great suggestion!

At least some of these would be needed to make this even more fun:

1. It should be instanced and you could invite anyone to join your house and only invited people can get there. The instance could be located virtually anywhere, if you wanna live in Malchor’s Leap with kittenload of Risen in your back yard, go ahead. I’d personally prefer Queensdale over Malchor’s.

2. Choosing a theme and style for the house. For example you would have 5 different themes (1 for each race) and few styles (human themed houses could be either gorgeous villas or plain farmer cabins) but you could freely choose a theme and style despite of character race (charr could get an asura-themed house).

3. Interior design, furniture and decorations with lots of different colors, styles and a free placement of course.

4. Exterior design like walls, roof, chimney, flowers, trees, fence etc etc.

5. Activities like crafting stations or snowball throwing at a yard of a norn themed house. Why not playing some dice with friends?

6. Storage. Add gear lockers, access to bank, or just plain chest which acts like a bank where you can store a small amount of stuff. Maybe an achievement display where invited people can look at trophies of your accomplishments.

Purchasing a house and adding content in it should cost something (gold, karma or trophies). Also much content should be available from dungeons, exploring, events or other activities (for example having a drinking competition with pirates could award you with the table you drank from or helping seraph getting rid of centaur banners could award you with one of those banners).

Also a housing for guilds would be nice. They would be themed larger halls with same content available as individual player housing.

And just in case someone doesn’t understand my english or is too lazy to read:

TLDR: +1

This, 1 zillion billion trillion times this. Implement this and you can have my money. you can have it all.

Since ranking systems started using points instead of wins for advancement. I understand the “winning is its own reward types”, but if I can play a support role and help my team get 20 wins and am lower in rank then someone who plays pure dps/zerg and gets 20 losses then something is wrong. And yes I need points, winning a 3 minute game with a group of random ppl means very little to me……but those pixel points are the sweet sweet nectar I crave.

Also winning is not the problem here, it is winning with less points. I want to be the most winninging winner in the group of winners, or the least losinging loser in the loser pile. And for kitten’s sake if I can be winning a game, then at 498 be reassigned to the 209 team because the team is leaving then I want something to show that I rock so I can yell at my cat that I am awesome and the other ppl suck.

The losing team can still have the best player, and there should be recognition for that. And since this is a forum I can pretend I am the best player, even though I just started the game recently and suck terribly lol

Change “Make it so that those points are more than simply going killing noobs ( something like 10 points every 15-20 secs on a point).” to " (something like 5 points every 15-20 secs while standing on a point you control during combat)." And bam you fixed it. This would prevent players from just standing on points to farm glory, yet would incentivize and reward defending points from attackers.

If a few players want to try to camp a point and hold it, they could until they were overrun and get credit for their defense. If teams tried to abuse the system by all grouping up on a single point then they would lose; getting no points as long as the other team was smart and capped all the other nodes. Done.

The quote system wont work but

“Solution a solution could be giving the lead capper (the one who entered it first) a larger amount of points then those who came in later. One problem with this is that let’s say there was a battle beforehand, whoever entered the Capture Point later he/she still gets a small amount of points while he/she put in the extra effort of fighting over the Capture Point. But this could solved by handing over the normal amount of points if Defender triggered within in ’’xx’’ seconds.”

This would just incentivize players racing each other point to point rather than staying to cap it. A player could just run to a point, then flee, then run to the next point then flee ignoring capping expecting the other teammate to do the dirty work for them.

I agree wholeheartedly with your other ideas though. I also would add that support builds should be offered a chance to get points as well. If I play a guardian build that focuses on boons, protection and healing I am helping the team succeed but am getting no points for helping others. I know they don’t want the healer aspect of the holy trinity but why have classes with major support abilities if they are not rewarded for playing the game.

I know this is a spvp forums, but the problem with support builds extends to world events as well since the medals only measure dps contributions.

Dang now that you mention the elite summoning skills my idea seems terrible, it would encourage players to go down, then be resurrected by party members to avoid the long cool down timers on elite summoning abilities. In the other direction, summoning an elite skill pet would be terrible ( especially for squishy elementalist) if 1 sec after you summon them you go down and are stuck with the lengthy cooldown.

So now we are left with; either keeping them the way they are, having them go passive/invulnerable when the player is down then pop back up, or severally penalizing classes that rely on pets.

( please correct me if I am wrong about long cooldowns on elite skill summons, I dont play a proff with one, it just seemed like they would since all other elite skills have ridic cooldowns)

Still doesnt mean it justifies bigotry or racism, and people should feel comfortable with speaking whatever language they wish. It seems crazy that some english speakers can only speak english, and think that if you dont speak it you are somehow a lesser person. Its called education, go get some.

I can only speak english, spanish, and a little german. If someone wants to speak in their mother language more power to them. Heck I dont care and I am an American, a Southern American; we pretty much made intolerance an artform.

Also why cant they just have a translation program that translates other languages into what you flag as your native language. Sure the grammar would be wrong, and there would be a little miscommunication still but it seems like it would help. If google chrome (a web browser) can manage it with a tiny program why couldnt the game?

My grammar is most likely terrible, it is the internet afterall. In my term paper I am sure it will be impeccable, in a gaming forum; not so much.

This sounds like a no brainer, and would further reward players for doing the right thing( i.e focusing on the owner not the pet). As long as pet cooldowns are reset when/if the person is rallied or resurrected it sounds fair. Not resetting the cooldowns and desummoning seems too harsh a penalty for classes that rely on their pets though.

Futhermore, what would a ranger be without their pet? Or a mesmer without thier illusions?

A mesmer could be a mesmer without his illusions, there was a mesmer in gw1 and illusions are unheard of.

A shutdown mesmer was fine in guildwars one bringing 0 damage to the table, and I mean none, it was just as viable as anything else and my preferred way of playing.

I understand how this answers “Or a mesmer without thier illusions?” in a way, as you say that they didnt have them in GW2; but how does that apply to this game where they are built around them. I also highly doubt that doing zero damage would be fun for many ppl since scoring does not take into consideration support or control abilities at all.

How is your statement germane to the topic? How does it contribute to the thread? Even if their was viable builds for the mesmer or other classes to be pet or bone buddiless( and I think with necro their one or two, idk), why should you destroy pet heavy builds for the sake of convenience. If you take out pets you severely cripple many professions that rely on them. Pets are pivotal to several profession builds, without them the forums would be abuzz with Necromancers, mesmers, rangers, elemantalist, and if you take the concept too far guardians complaining up a storm.

This seems like a rather long list of professions to tick off because some players have a hard time discerning target priorities or dealing with the chaotic battle the little buggers cause.

Futhermore, what would a ranger be without their pet? Or a mesmer without thier illusions? Not to mention necro pets would have to be uber buffed if their bone buddies where limited to one.
