What I say is, for things to change someone has to be first. And if (generic) you’re concerned enough to be complaining about it, you’re as good a person as any to do it.
I did for a bit, and it got old fast. I showed up to solo camps and help a small number of players to take towers and even our keeps back. The problem, we were being karma trained so as soon as we done a very large group just came in to take it all back. That’s the issue I think most people have. It doesn’t matter if you get a small group of rebels to do things if you are being karma trained.
If you’ve read my previous posts, then hopefully you’ve read them in the threads they’re in. People complain “I go into WvW, we don’t own anything, so I just log out”.
I’ve done this. I think I’ve admitted to it too. Why? Because I’m tired of being Karma trained, and karma training isn’t fun for either side. I don’t want to see my hard work destroyed in less time then I took me to flip them. And since I’m new, I don’t have the stores of gold and siege I’m sure many players do. This is speaking about my own borderlands though. I rarely go to other borderlands. Maybe after I spend some more time in sPVP honing my 1v1 skills.
What I will always argue is the “I’m not having fun – change the game to suit me, regardless of how many other people don’t want it” style of complaints.
But you argue for the same thing, calling for locked servers or forced destacking. And I’m in bronze now, thankfully. Destacking would help us, but I don’t want it. Because it’s forcing players to play the way I do against their will. If they want to play with massive populations and queues, that’s their business and anyone who follows them. That’s their fun, and I have no right to request it be changed. What I do want is better matching so I can have fun too.
… because so very few of these problems are new. So when you’re posting in the hundredth identical thread that’s been started in the past six months, it gets a bit wearying. And while the search function for the server isn’t the greatest in the world, it’s not broken either
This part frightens me! If this has been an issue for so long, why aren’t they addressing it?!! It’s clearly a hot topic and just getting worse as Anet neglects it further. HoT is coming and we will get some new changes, but we don’t even have a ball park of when it’s done or any idea of what changes will be made. We just get the answer “It’ll be finished when it’s finished.” Which is a terrible answer!
But I’ll promise you that if people stop rehashing issues that have been totally talked out and come up with new problems, you’ll enjoy my initial responses more. And if you’re around long enough to see the same posts, often followed by “The death of WvW” or “this will drive all the WvWers to quit” a few dozen times, you can chart the decline in helpfulness in my posts.
The “Death of WvW” does get old, but if people are bringing them up time and time again, it’s a problem that needs to be addressed. I think the doom and gloom in the stability thread is a good explain of this though. But players say that about every game and every change ever made. There’s an XKCD comic about it, but then again there’s a comic for everything :P
And if it really bothers you, report the post. Making this about me is doing a disservice to the purpose of this thread, and will kill dead any further debate that anybody wants to do.
Trust me if a post crosses the line, I have no problem reporting it. I think I’ve reported a dozen or more people for spamming in chat or inappropriate posts as well as block them. I ain’t got time for that crap. This is why I used the word “civility”. While you aren’t “polite” or “gently spoken”, you aren’t flat out offensive or cruel either. If you are a real troll, you’re a good one, dancing along the cusp while the rest of us get our feathers’ ruffled. Not that I’m stating you are.
You posted sometime in the past week that you’ve only been playing for a month or so, so you wouldn’t know this, but there was a time when a staff ele would drop a meteor shower and then use the tornado elite – it would magnify the damage of the meteor shower tremendously. Lots of people called it a meteornado, but on my server we thought it was trolly so started calling it a trollnado.
party buddy is responding like that because he was just complaining in either this thread or another one, and I had a look at his post history and found that the bulk of his posts were exactly that – complaints. Not constructive ones, but “ANet isn’t giving me what I want” type posts and I remarked on it. There’s nothing constructive about “this should not happen” and a picture of a matchup.
If he doesn’t want confrontational posts, he shouldn’t be doing them to me either. And if he feels I’m out of order, there’s the option to report a post to the moderators.
I assumed the Trollnado was about the elementalist’s elite, I may be new, but I get a few things. I also know the Engineer elite is similar, and it’s pretty trolly too. So many knockbacks…
But you are rarely constructive either. I’ve read many of your posts and they’re generally along the lines of “Well my server is awesome, we all boot straps ourselves up, and your server is just bad if it can’t do it either.” It’s not constructive either. It’s just stating, you don’t try hard enough.
And he’s right, that type of match up should never happen. It should never be allowed to be that one sided. That’s like doing a sPVP match and being the only one on your team, while the other team is full. There’s no recovering that. While you would argue it’s not constructive, I think it’s a very valid and concerning point.
How do we fix it? No idea. But telling people “try harder” or “learn to play like me” is not constructive. It’s just… not polite.
But it would not give enough rewards for scouts, I just can’t think anything already in system to use, only new things which need more time to implement/test.
GW2 needs a call out system similar to other games where you can mark the map with a little icon that indicates the approximate size of the group. In short when you scout and see some players you can hit your “call out” button which tells everyone “ZOMG there are 5-10 players at hills” no need to type or scream over chattering people in TS. If they give us that system, then scouts would have an easier time, and it would make scouts a lot more dangerous. It may end up becoming a job more suited to perma stealth thieves and mesmers or classes that move very quickly to run in and out of call out range.
Ohhh, Weekly Map Completion Thread Achievement Done!
Can we finally get a sticky?1: Get the ones your server owns at reset, if you have luck you’ll get almost all of them in 1 months.
2: You don’t have to cap an objective, just destroy the wall/gate to get inside, not impossible with ~5-10 guys, but need proper timing/strategy. (Or you can get some thieves to help you out, perma-stealthing you, and sneak inside when the other server opened it)
3: You can play WvW and get it naturally. (Join server TS, follow the commander, learn to play wvw)
Did you get bingo?
But yes this is very sound advice. You will need the help of your server. You can start by wandering around your borderland now and your side of EBG, because your colour might change on friday. You might get taken out by a roamer, but don’t get discouraged. Repairs are free, so just dust yourself off and try again. Then play follow the tag and enjoy your server’s TS and play naturally.
Laurels for some ascended jewelry, and guilds for the other pieces. Crafting for a back piece. And then badges and gold for weapons, and I generally suggest getting those as berserker or rampager so you can use them in PVE too. Karma for gear or badges if karma doesn’t have the stats you want. And buy some cheap exotic runes that are useful, like the one with the parrot… deary me… Privateer! Get some decent to good exotic runes for the weapons that again are useful in PVE (fire is nice for aoe weapons, and air for single target and they aren’t terribly expensive. If it’s really pricy you could grab rare versions.) And go.
Perhaps there are not a comparable number of wvw players on the server to show up to make a difference in the disparity. I know from what I have seen in my own guild this influences people who do enjoy wvw to feel disinclined to join in for the week.
Rimmy, I’ve noticed most of your posts are confrontational, and typically use hypothetical confusions of what could happen in the future, while attempting to belittle a person’s view of what has happened in the past. Lets try more posts on fixing the problem, and less on targeting peoples views with unfounded tripe.
Your expecting someone with the word Troll in their signature to behave, what’s a good word, with civility?
Just ignore it. But I do agree it’s uncalled for, and we should be focused on solutions on how to herd cats, rather than assumptions and snapping at each other.
They could just up the daily rewards or a special daily for just WvW that includes things an average WvW player would do, like buy upgrades, place and refresh siege, recapture camps, kill dollies, kill players, defend, using a specific types of siege to defend, etc. When you complete a set amount of the list, you get a very good reward. Though they shouldn’t use the term daily because people will expect laurels and achievement points. This should be more like a… Call to Arms, and should give rewards similar to a world boss or completing a single dungeon. WIth the addition of some siege thrown in.
Another option is to make SM and borderland garrisons (that aren’t your own borderland) give world boss style loot once a day.
Edit: You know a reward track with the above tasks would be better. Also since you asked what rewards, why not a WvW specific skins? And I mean more fancy or sparkly stuff.. maybe similar to the mist weapons.

instead.
Better rewards would draw in more players.
When I was leveling in EOTM someone said the daily dungeon gives you like 45g after you sell everything and such. I was very flabbergasted if that number is true. All I could think was, I am playing the wrong parts of the game. Even if that number is closer to 4.5g, it would still be more than I normally get in WvW or EOTM in a single play session. So yeah, I think we might need better rewards.
No, I get it. But it’s boring to be way out in front, and it’s boring to be constantly crushed, so it’s good when something is done about it.
Still, it’s only Saturday.
Not only boring but discouraging too. :\ Not sure what can be done, but fairer matches are needed. Hopefully the expansion breathes some new life into WvW.
Nah. Mag has got lots of transfers over the past month, and are outpopulating us and CD. A pity CD can’t get it together enough so that the both of us can focus Mag and give everybody a fun week, but meh.
Easier target = path of least resistance thus… you know fight you. People are lazy :\
My server so far has been good and is mostly focusing the leading server, but I think it’s because they aren’t that far ahead and we are more equally matched. Time for this little Squire (lawl, squire rank!) to tag along and have an easier time learning to ropes of WvW.
I kinda wish they just randomized the colours every week. It could solve a lot of these map completion issues, but honestly, I don’t see why its a part of 100% anyway. The new zones aren’t included and much to my chagrin after discovering everything in Dry top just to learn I don’t get a bouncing chest out of it. It was a bit harder than most of the other maps. I only have a few points left in Silverwastes to find too, but since I get nothing out of it, I’ll leave them for when I’m super bored.
But I’m not sure how bad they are to get. I have been playing a month or so now, and I just completed EBG without trying. The only thing I was missing was one green tower, and that’s with being incredibly outnumbered for most of those weeks. I guess the borderlands will be harder too finish, but I’m in no hurry. At least the match ups are looking slightly better this week. Tier 3 looks brutal and tier 5 look unhappy.
I think it’s a concern and maybe a problematic change. It might really hurt small scale WvW and medium groups. It might make CC builds too powerful. It might make zerging more problematic because they’ll have a lot of CCs. It might make defending really brutal because you can’t pop stability and make a mad dash inside. But we’ll have to wait and see.
Without taking part in discussion of how good/bad any of the members of the development team are, I just think the dev team is too small to pull this off. And by pulling off I mean creating a game that is high enough quality to sustain a big enough playerbase. Them planning to have a subscription certainly won’t help getting a lot of players.
But at least their values and priorities are in the right place. Would be great to see the game succeed and actually being good. I might even sub to it if it’s good.
This. I honestly don’t follow it that closely, and I wish them the best of luck. But Mark Jacobs often turns up in the massivelyop comment sections to talk about games and the industry. It’s neat to see. He’ll even answer questions and talk with people. And it’s rare you see that. So he seems like a genuinely good guy.
We should talk about EoTM and on topic… umm…. Karma trains yo, they be whack…. is that how the kids talk these days?
(edited by Coyote.7031)
If EotM would be the future of WvW then the PvE’rs can have this bloody game. Us true RvR-players have our sight elsewhere anyway so this is just a stop on the Journey towards out goal, wich exist in another game…
Anet struck WvW on day 1 and it has slowly bin dying ever since
Rave
Are you talking about Camelot Unchained? I wouldn’t place too much trust upon that Messiah. Following it closely myself, but their resources are quite small and I feel they might not be able to pull it through.
Lies Mark Jacobs is superman!
This is a joke, but he does actually seem to be a good guy…
I think a lot of people would just end up turning it off because of chatter. But I could see giving commanders an alert system that sends out an alert, but is limited to like once every 10 minutes or something. It would be fairly easy to catch people abusing the system for non WvW purposes and take away their ability to use it.
How is that different than the system already in place? We have heavy PVE servers, they are low on the ranks. All you’d be doing is moving the WvW population off them, which is just another name for a server merger, only the players who haven’t done WvW or only sort of do WvW would get locked out. That’s bad.
You could work on server coalitions that work together in WvW, but that’s just a complicated merger. Which many people don’t want anyway.
You could just give people free transfers, let them transfers where ever they desire, so there’s less risk of going to a lower ranked server. Transfer costs could be modified to reflect ranking, but I think people would just bandwagon on the one that’s winning anyway. If they are unhappy with their server and/or their ranking, let them move. The only other options to them is not play. They aren’t going to help their server if they refuse to play.
You could stop transfers being gold purchased, which prevents guilds from being purchased and/or mass transfers. But I think this is a terrible idea, because if you aren’t happy where you are, you should be able to move. Again because your other option is not play, and someone who doesn’t play isn’t benefiting their server. I’m sure there are better ways to stop the purchasing of guilds, but if they moved it’s because they wanted to.
On other forums I see people comment how terrible WvW is and how they just wrote the whole thing off. Guilds who tell all their players “Yeah don’t go to WvW, it’s not fun.” That’s bad.
I’m of the opinion you can’t fix WvW, but you could make it more fun and/or rewarding. That might coax players into playing it. After all we have tons of people on the servers, the problem is they don’t want to play. How can we get them to want to play?
I say make transfers free, but you can only do it once a month or so. If people want to bandwagon up, screw it, let them. They’ll do it anyway or they’ll quit playing. If your server has such a deep and strong community, than why would they bail on you? And if transfers are free, it’s entirely possible people who are tired of queues at the top may trickle down. If I spent 1800 gems to go up, I wouldn’t want to spend another 1800 to go back down and gamble on a lower ranked server. The reduced gem costs could work too, but then if you are more unhappy moving from high to low, you still have that huge cost to go back where you came from. But at the very least modify the ranking system so servers can move up and down a little more freely until things settle.
But, you know, maybe I just want to watch the world burn. Actually what I want is data, so much data. All the data. Where players are, when they play, how they play, etc. Not knowing the strengths and weaknesses of every server seems to be one of the issues here. All of our opinions are biased based on our experiences in WvW.
ArcheAge is free to play and their castle system might have good PVP fights, no idea. I hate the labor system and bailed shortly after castles were released. I never got to the point of seeing fierce castle battles. Class balance seems like a major issue in that game too.
Someone already mentioned PS2.
I guess Rift with conquest, but I haven’t played Rift in years and I have no idea if they still have conquest or if it’s healthy. And I don’t think they have siege.
WoW and it’s battle grounds I guess. Isle of Conquest does have siege and a capture the keep. /shrugs
People seem to like and are excited about Evolve. No siege, and it’s a 5v1 battle. A team against a loan monster. It does look interesting, but I know nothing about it.
Why are you ignoring those (Dh/IoJ/HoD/EBay/NSP)?
I don’t know much about WvW since I’m new, but I do know that the guilds that left my server transferred to two of those listed servers. In fact one of them is allegedly buying guilds from us and other lower ranked servers. I strongly doubt they pulled themselves up by their bootstraps. I imagine they are all mini band wagon servers, for people who don’t want to go beyond tier 3 and still want that small server feel. If I was to leave my server, it would be to ride their coattails to victory, not to go for tier 1 or 2.
At the moment though, I’m just waiting for thing to stabilize before I make a final judgement call. At the moment tier 3 to 7 look pretty rough with unbalanced match ups of varying degrees. Even tier 2 seems to be suffering a bit. Just look at those scores! What a terrible mess and a terrible time to join the GW2 WvW community. The only tiers that seem to have balanced matching is tier 1 and 8.
/laugh is perfectly fine in wvw, provocation is just another strategy used in warfare
No it’s not, go back to DayZ.
@Coglin
To be fair, I assume he meant something more along the line of giving a % boost per enemy outnumbered (And % of that again etc), instead of just multiplying power etc with the number of players. Which would be much less drastic. But I agree it would still be a bad solution.
Just for the fun of numbers though, if I was that solo roamer, on my guardian with full cele, and say my power was 1500 blank for simplicity, if multiplied by 40, that is power 60 000. At that stage I think I could one-shot virtually any enemy with any power based attack. It would also be the day I stopped using rams, auto attack on staff would smash that door much faster.
Mostly curious how many Staff #1 hits I’d need to kill the castle lord with that…
/snicker
So I used to play WoW and in the new expansion they added a new sort of PVP zone, and they made these relic things. The relic makes you extremely powerful, so you have people with these relics that are just one-shotting everyone, and it’s a huge mess. Funny, but just a terrible idea. This made me think of that. XD I don’t know if they got nerfed or not, I no longer play.
There were also NPC giants that were more less required to take the other side and their pathing would constantly bug out and they’d run away so you’d fail you attempt to capture the other side. Not sure if they fix that either. It was like, how not to design a PVP zone… And population balance issues. Sigh.
@Coyote:
I do agree that WvW is inherently flawed, and it basically forces players to make their own rules/restrictions in order to get a balanced match-up.
I don’t really know exactly what ANet wanted with this game mode, what their goals and design was based on. But I do get the feeling that they wanted it to be a whole lot more casual than what we currently see.
As such, I’m wondering, what would happen if we removed PPT ? and points entirely ?
I don’t even know what that would do to the game mode, but perhaps people would take it less serious, and just go play what they wanted to ? Or perhaps it would just turn into another EotM with no rewards.
I think ANet wanted their sPvP to be their serious competitive mode, and WvW to be the sort of relaxed place where PvP people could go to not take things to seriously, and PvE players could go to get a small taste of PvP in an environment they would be familiar with. And the whole points thing was just a way to channel people towards something.
Dunno. But I really do wonder what ANet’s design plan was for WvW. It is clearly not what it turned into, since they seem to be completely flabergasted what to do with it.
I think that if they raised the cap on custom PvP maps to 15 or 20, it would solve a lot of smaller issues around the game.
I would love larger sPVP maps, and if they had siege and keeps… /drools I am less fond of 5v5, but I still enjoy that from time to time. There’s too much pressure on each player and a weak player can cost you the game. A weak player in sPVP could just be one that’s support focused. And it sucks to get pigeon holed in a few select builds to be competitive. This is why I like larger scale PVP because it focuses more on group and cooperation, individual skill plays less, and you get a bit more freedom with your builds. Ideally this would be why I love WvW, but no build makes up for being severally out numbered.
I’m not sure what they had in mind either, but the idea is a good one. Castle wars with siege between three servers? That sounds awesome! And honestly? I don’t care about points or who wins. I care about outnumbered, not the buff, but actually being greatly out numbered. It’s about getting smashed by a much larger force to the point it’s not a battle, but a massacre. There’s no challenge for either side, where’s the fun?! But you know fun is subjective, maybe those servers love killing puppies? /shrugs
I think WvW is inherently broken and unfixable. There will never be true balance. They could in theory use the mega-server technology to auto balance the maps and throw servers out the window, but then I think players would treat it like EotM, and no one wants that. Plus I actually like the idea of servers.
The problem is fun. Since I started playing for the sale my randomly chosen (well the name was cool) server has been out numbered every week. I have never seen a score that wasn’t skewed unfairly to another server. I don’t know, if it’s normal or how people put up with this, but it’s very much NOT fun. I also know that in the last 3 weeks we allegedly lost at least 3 guilds to other servers. So I know that unless we drop a few tiers, we will be unfairly matched. And I’m pretty angry. I don’t blame the guilds that left, or the servers stomping us. I blame the system. There’s nothing worse than playing PVP in any game and going into the map missing most of your team. It’s the worst. You can play as hard as you can, but you can never replace those missing players, and even if your side fills up, it’s unlikely you will recover.
That’s what I get for watching cool WvW guild videos on YouTube and assuming, wrongly, that any server would be like that. Which way to the bandwagon?
@ Arius
/facepalm
But you suggest people sacrifice what they’re looking to get out of the game for your sake. The irony.
This sums up the destacking argument and the server merging argument. I don’t like how you play, it’s not the way I play, you should be forced to play the way I like.
People aren’t having fun, something should be done about it. The fast and easy solution is nothing. Let the players sort it out themselves. They could aid this with free transfers. It’s not the best solution, it might be the worst solution, but at least it’s something. /shrugs
Thank you everyone for your feedback! I’ve been taking notes based on everyone’s perspectives on this particular subject, and will be releasing a revised version of the report.
I know this has been mentioned a few times in this thread, but how would you feel about a “trail run” of said changes? Such as removing the white swords in WvW. Which change would you like see implemented first? Why?
The one that allegedly fixes population imbalance or gives me a good reason to go back into WvW…. so far every time we’ve tried to take the big dog on their response is to wipe us and then retake everything we own. Sadly it’s easier to poke at the other server as they are struggling almost as much as we are. They at least don’t show up with 3 to 5 times our numbers, wipe us out, and then spam /laugh
TL:DR: I don’t mind unbalanced matches. I mind when they happen literally 3 weeks in a row. It is destroying our server’s morale to get stomped every week. Stop making us play the same server.
Sounds like my server. I’m new and since I’ve started playing, the leading server has double the score of us almost every week. Sometimes more, sometimes a little less. At this point, I’ve never seen a balance match up and I stopped logging in as much. I don’t know what to do. I’ve shown up to help cap back and ended up with 4 people taking back our hills or bay or take some camps back only to watch them get flipped 5 minutes later by someone else while I’m try to get others back. I join this game to have epic pvp battles. I get maybe one a week where we finally pulled together enough numbers to do something and often we are still out numbered. It’s not fun.
I guess I could go do sPVP, but I really wanted castle siege wars. I could also delete my characters and start from scratch again somewhere else. Jump on the bandwagon like everyone else, but I really hate that idea.
At first I thought I could deal with the outnumbered and the balance problems, but when you finally turn a map back your colour just to see the zerg roll back in and flip back your hard work with no one there to protect it, it’s crap. Just crap.
Server Merges hurt the server communities. It boils down to “Icky low population servers should play like I do! In big groups!”
Population Caps hurt the the groups who like massive battles. It boils down to “Icky high populations have no skill and need numbers, they should learn to play like me!”
Using a mega server type system for the maps would hurt server communities. It boils down to “Who are you people and how can I kitten you all off since I’ll get a new match up next week.”
Rewards would be nice. I don’t think they would help server balance, but getting cookies for defending or building siege. I suppose you could do something like give double rewards for picking on whoever is in the lead.
I can say I thought last weeks match up was bad. This week is shaping up to be more of the same. Really, just one week I would like to see WvW where other servers don’t have double our score. Just one week! I’m new, and I’ve never seen a balanced match up yet! Maybe in a few weeks my server will have tanked enough to get some interesting fights instead of “Yep they have 60 people, we have 10… looks like we are losing our keep again… oh well see you in a few hours when they bugger off”
Give me large scale sPVP please.
(edited by Coyote.7031)
Maybe this was a test to see if we’re interested in siege skins. They are lovely though aren’t they? Just beautifully done.
I still have fun outnumbered. Last night we ate up a few chunks of EBG while home got pummeled and we tried to golem rush the zerg overlord’s keep which for the record also let us empty out SM. We made it to the inner, when their zerg from the border lands promptly mushed us and our precious omegas. But man that was a fun try. They may have double our numbers or more, but at least we gave them a bit of a go. Lobbed some stones and Goliath’s boots.
They returned the favor by eating up the rest of our home and EBG in revenge. /shrugs People claimed they had a hundred people on the map, all I see is a pile of red names to throw wells and marks at and run away screaming “No don’t hit me! I just want to fear you off the cliff! Be reasonable!”
I remember Planet Side back in the day, the community would actively try and balance the populations to make the fights more “fun”. People didn’t want to roll into bases and nuke the spawn, they wanted heroic battles hard won or defiant defenders that held their ground. Though Planet Side had an easy way to change sides, which does have some negative affects. But how times have changed, when we’d rather stack on the winning side for some internet points. You don’t even get anything in WvW for being the winner. How lazy we’ve gotten as players where overwhelming and speed matters more than enjoyable game play. Then again nuking spawns in enjoyable to some, so I guess there goes that point.
People get legendaries for transferring? Huh, no wonder people jump. Someone on my server just mentioned another server buying a few of our PVE guilds. I thought it just meant paying server transfer costs, and I was wondering how they afford 252g(assuming 14g per 100 gems for simplicity) per guild member. Or do they just pay for the big dogs in the guild and let the little scrublet players fend for themselves?
Ideally I’d want 15v15, 25v25, and 40v40 modes, the 5v5 can stay too. I’d want it to be a structured siege game that’s simply a mini version of WvW. Whoever caps the other teams keep wins.
I’d love it if guilds could issue challenges to other guilds too with a scheduled start time. Something like “Hey scrubs, I’ll see you at 8pm EST on friday, bring your best!”
Scholar Fryxx trait is really difficult to get. I spent an hour and half trying to get it done and I don’t think I’ll ever get it done. This trait frustrated me to the point I wanted to quit. I know I can buy it, but I hate spending that much gold to unlock something, that shouldn’t be gated in the first place. As a new player, I hate this trait system. If this is what I have to look forward to with masteries in HoT, count me out.
:\ That’s unfortunate news.
Do you really expect a server named after nowhere to get somewhere?
Where the streets have no name….
Actually when you say it like that, it sounds kinda cool. You should make that your slogan some how. I chose my server because I thought the name sounded cool. Hindsight, should’ve researched first, but we’ll see. I think we just had a few bad weeks.
I think most servers have their up and downs. I’m not sure many players have server loyalty. I’m sure some would correct me, but I don’t think the majority of players read the forums or get in their server’s TS/etc. I mean if you aren’t having fun on your server why stay? Many servers seem stuck always facing the same few match ups, I could see why people would get cranky or bored. I can see why WvW would get stale, and changing servers means new people, commanders, and new servers to face.
This is also why I understand balancing being a hot topic. If they force balance with mergers it means servers could be more equally ranked and thus you’d get many new match ups. However this would also kill existing communities of loyal players. Seems like a hard choice.
2. To tempt people into buying xfer to higher tier servers.
My husband believes this is the sole reason why transfers are still as expensive as they are and why we will never see balanced WvW. He assumes the majority of large gem purchases are transfers, and thus it’s in Anet’s best interest not to balance. It’s one heck of a tin hat, but it wouldn’t surprise me. And it’s one the major reasons he refused to play GW2.
Which saves me on some bag space for the time being.
If bag space is getting tight and, assuming you don’t want to splash out ten gold for a twenty slot bag, consider running some fractals. You can buy the twenty slot fractal bags fairly quickly using the fractal relics (dungeon tokens) you get.
Don’t need 10 gold. Buy 3k candy corn and turn them into cobs then buy a halloween pail (20 slots). At current TP prices, as long as you place a buy order, it should only cost you about 3.5 – 3.75g per 3k corn.
Holy crap that’s almost as cheap as an 18 slot, but is a recipe needed, I would not have it.
Also I’m not sure an extra 8 slots is gonna save me much. But since I bought the deluxe I got influence thingies, which I used on a personal guild to get a guild bank. It’ll be ready in two days. And I might buy a bank slot too, have a single tab in my bank is a little rough.
Oh? Which one is yours?
Wouldn’t you like to know. :P
Good luck.
Thanks, and thanks for the suggestions.
Yeah, I saw “mats” and “scholar’s runes” and figured you were just waiting on the lodestones to make the runes.
Those are two very different sets of runes though – I’m not sure I’d use traveler’s on a necro since there are much better choices that will give a huge increase to your damage or survivability. Can I guess that if you’re thinking scholar’s runes you’re intending to stay as a power necro?
Yeah I went by the meta suggestions and 3 of the metas use Berserker, so I went power. Though I suppose the roaming build isn’t that meta, it’s listed under good. But this way I can use one set of a gear to enjoy myself in multiple roles. I can do PVE, dungeons, zergs, and roaming with only need trait changes and weapon swaps. Which saves me on some bag space for the time being. Though some say I should be Assassins for dungeons, but I’m not running speed runs so meh.
Scholars were listed for the PVE rune, roaming was Strength, and roaming was Travelers. All of which are a little pricy. I’m running a cheap set right now.
I’m tired of lagging behind in WvW so that’s why I thought Travelers might be good. I get the boon duration which helps, the speed to keep up, and it frees a slot on my bar for something more useful.
I didn’t even know till after that post I could make Scholar’s runes. I found the recipe for the rare one shortly after fiddling in the crafting window.
People getting things done attracts other people who want to do things in WvW. And if it turns out that you play at an unsociable hour, there’s lots you can do by yourself too.
But yeah, we pulled ourselves up by our bootstraps. You’d be hard pressed to find much in the way of recruitment by us – it all just became critical mass over time. It’s less fun when it’s just you trying to do everything yourself, but when you recognize the realities of the situation and do what you can, it starts the trend. shrugs
I don’t know much about WvW history, new and all. But I do know that some of my server-mates were talking about one of our better commanders and his guild leaving to join your server. People were pretty upset about it in ts. People get attracted to servers that do well, thus I imagine you also had an influx of new players to go with the bootstraps. Please note, I’m not belittling your server, even with the above joke. I’m sure you guys have lots of loyal players who worked really hard. But I like making joking. >:D
I can say I agree, I notice an influx of players when a good commander is on the field. If we don’t have a good commander people wander and get discouraged and leave. For reset we ended up with a fat group running around and our commander was sad that we didn’t have a single small guild group to deal with smaller tasks like taking back camps and protecting towers from other small groups. Instead he had to drag the entire mass around to do grunt work. I was looking at all the guilds and it was rare to see more than a few people from the same guild. Seems like my server suffers from a lack of unity. I’m not delusional enough to assume the wily little coyote can fix that. I’d rather say stupid jokes at my server and get sent cookies. Will do tricks for food.
Also I died trying to take a camp, I tried. I didn’t make it. But I don’t have any rankings(I got to Solider today), or good gear, or much of anything. I did okay. I killed two of the guards and everything else was at 30 or 40%. I actually almost rallied focusing one, so close! So I think now with my slightly better gear, more experience, and sporting exotic sigils (huge different between rare and exotic sigils), I may succeed. /fingers crossed

I’m working on karma gear and saving my crafting mats for when I get good runes, like scholar or travelers.
Remember that you won’t be able to salvage your runes later if you put them on karma gear. Have you looked at the named armor sets with the stats you want on the trading post?
I don’t think I was clear, I’m saving my mats to make exotics to put scholars runes or travelers runes, and thus I can salvage them. The karma gear are place holders until I can farm enough mats. I only have about 6 blood so far. I haven’t decided which. I got one travelers from an exotic piece already, so maybe I’ll go that route. No more locus sigil for me.
1. Get a GvG guild that isn’t pathetic.
2. Get about GOOD PLAYERS 10-15 players.
3. Wipe Server-size blobs
4. ???
5. Profit.Just stop complaining. Video related. Resolution and quality is absolute kitten as the guy who made doesn’t have a good setup.
Stop saying that. This morning there’s a guild doing that while tagged, splitting our numbers, and they aren’t very good. So all they are doing is running around aimlessly not capping things and wiping. The other commander who is trying to actually do things got fed up and left. =(
All I wanted was another 33k karma for my mittens maybe some exotic accessories until I get enough laurels for the pink stuff.
Isn’t the idea behind EoTM an overflow from WvW? So if you cap it, green will get a queue because there won’t be enough red or blue to fill the maps.
Randomize colours for each match up, then maybe a cap will work. This would also solve the exploration problem. If colours are random you have a chance every week to see that green keep or whatever you are missing.
I haven’t been playing very long, but… I tried to attack and kill two hammer warrior roamers in my home borderland while all in yellow gear. I thought the other person was with me, but nope. They stopped to res their friend while I got tossed around like a rag doll screaming “WHY?!?!”
Edit: Also someone gave me a pumpkin cookie last night, I ate it and my character transformed. This is new to me, I have never transformed with a potion or a food before. I freaked out thinking something horrible happened to my character. That I had run over some trap. No it turns out it’s just the cookie and I was a mummy. But it freaked the poop out of me, and I panicked.

Dropped down to dead last less than a year ago, currently at rank 14. Don’t depend on someone to tag up for your WvW experience.
I had no idea it took only a few people in rams to make a server go up 8 or so ranks! Wow! I’ll buy a ram and get right on that. :P
Dang lazy WvWers, they just need to learn to pull up their bootstraps like you did!
I was going to complain about my server not getting an easier/fair/equal match up, but then I looked at the rankings for the server T3 servers and thought “Maybe my server isn’t so bad after all.” But we are still being hammered. Top server already has double our score. But at least the big dog we are fighting doesn’t have a 300 point ranking lead on us.
But honestly, I know it might be a troll… but yeah I’m a new player and I’m having a hard time finding a silver lining. Chin up for next week?
just remember they did say that getting your precursor for legendary will be changing with the HoT expansion. i believe they said it will be a massive quest to get them.might be better to wait and build up your gold karma and mats for when the expansion hits. maybe overall less expensive. tho who knows how far away the expansion is.
Challenging and even time consuming is fine, RNG is less fine. I would much rather have a very long and terrible quest that takes me a year to finish. I like the idea of having a long term goal and inching my way slowly forward. I just hope it isn’t stuff like get 10,000 mithril and come back, get 25,000 elder wood and come back. That wouldn’t be a challenge, it be a grind.
