Thats really sad to hear for us engies, but understandable :/
Though maybe next time you can work on pistols or rifles first instead of say..shields?
Although… that rises a question of what kind of bullets would a 8-bit themed gun fire. I don’t even know if they have the tech to change weapon projectiles based on skin, presumably yes since unicorn bow is a thing.
I think there was talk about such a thing at one point yes, but definitely not on official channels, check the reddit and you may find something.
Probably another one of those things they want to do, if there is player interest to warrant it. Judging from the clocktower they can make some fiendish jumping puzzles, so it is more than a possibility in my opinion.
not positive if there’s a way around this, but you need five people to get past checkpoints and to open chests.
As far as I know it adjusts to party size, ie. in party of 5 you need five keys for a chest but in party of 2 you would need 2. The tradeoff being of course that with less damage output you need to repeat the pattern based bosses patterns for longer. Hence a solo run taking longer, when normal health or damage mechanics do not apply.
It looks to be soloable, not like the “combat” adheres to the usual ruleset. May take longer alone, but if the monsters remain “retro” then soloing shouldn’t be an issue.
FOR GODS SAKE QUIT SCRAPPING PERFECTLY GOOD MATERIAL.
Not like they are throwing it away, any content they have made… they still have access to reuse in whole or in parts later regardless of whether we have access to it right now or not.
That said, I sincerely hope this type of content remains accessible, since like you said it is not really thematic to the time of the year or anything.
Kind of…
Got to love it how they can come up with a premise like this that a ) still fits and b ) allows them to throw all lore out of the window for this content type. It is seriously a refreshing change of pace though.
Once per day per character I think… needless to say they might have done something to avoid printing baubles by creating new character running the instance moving baubles and deleting character (rinse and repeat, did not test if this works, nor would I encourage anyone to do so… since it is an obvious exploit if it does work).
Choosing “between making more skins or making the SAB itself” makes it sound like we aren’t getting any other skins because they chose to finish the box instead. I think a more accurate description is that they put the emphasis on making the box amazing, because they can add in the skins for World 2 and 3 updates without taking up too many resources once the SAB is mostly done.
Assuming Josh is going to be able to do the skins, I don’t want to spread a rumor that it’s confirmed or anything but it does seem likely.
The point of the story, however, being that as a small team working on something that can hardly use existing art assets or music, need I go on. They had to make choices, and if they get to continue working on this… then the selection of skins are more than likely to be completed.
Who chose which skins to do now and which to leave to the (at the point of decision making) uncertain future of this content type and why is another discussion entirely. But right now it seems the more player support the more than likely this thing will live on… since it is not like it is in any way strictly thematically tied to the month of April, so they can bring it back whenever.
Not 100% confirmation we are getting them, but it seems very likely that all the weapon skins are not in for World 1.
For World 2 I absolutely want to make rifle and dagger skins.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/sab/World-2-bugged/1743928
If people check out the mmorpg video thingy, that provides ample insight on this… namely that they had to choose between making more skins or making the SAB itself beefier (wacky experiment with limited resources as they put it).
@Dan:
You can exchange 250 baubles for a bauble bubble with Moto.
Whoever named those items, brilliant choice btw
.
There is no world two, that is just a preview of what it would be like, if this gets enough player support to warrant continued development.
Same with the missing weapon skins, they are missing because the team was small and they had to do everything, if this gets continued it is more than likely the set will be completed as well (read: I want 8-bit rifles, and i don’t think there were daggers either if I recall correctly, so make it happen
).
Edit: Ninja’ed
.
I say make it permanent. Also, get the other mini games going!
I second that, this deserves it… and we deserve more fun things, where is Polymock and bar brawls?
But right now, this one is for the lack of better word epic.
I think it is high time we get another permanent activity such as keg brawl… although by comparison this is far overqualified :P
Though, for the goal oriented, no doubt month is enough to experience all of what is currently there and get the reward of your choice. However, as a concept this is totally epic and the first real throwback to things like the branding or hunger games during the beta… and I missed those.
To sum it up, if we never get to actually save the princess I will be profoundly saddened, because this creation deserves to be completed. If someone is worried that it might get stale once the shine wears of, then there is always the possibility of making Moto a recurring visitor that while not always there will be guaranteed to return on a regular (read: accessible) basis.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/april-2013/
The last chapter of text on that page that is, I absolutely love reading white text on almost white background :P
Honestly, while market in a game like this can be manipulated by the company running it (ie. ANet) and while it is obvious that the gem exchange rate is not 1:1 (see below), saying that it is happening or likely to happen is not anything but conspiracy theories in my opinion.
All the while it is true that if you transfer X gems to Y gold and someone transfers Y gold to gems (at the same time) they will never get X, and the difference seems too big for that one transaction to create the difference so there seem to be some hidden fees particularly when transferring gold to gems.
The exchange rates, however, do behave naturally and as one would expect them to (ie. you can make a prediction on what the exchange rate will be like under certain influence, such as an in-game event). So the exchange rate is set by player actions, ergo how much the gem exchange is used… emulating that would be too much work, with little potential gain, so it is fair to assume the exchange rates are, well… fair.
As for buying gold, while the supply is probably technically endless… in that it is unlikely someone could buy the whole gold supply in the gem exchange, even with theoretically unlimited money/gems. The usage of the gem exchange determining the base rates would eventually make the rate of gems to gold climb so high that not even the wealthiest person could keep going.
As for the whole market trends, comparing candy corn development to a legendary is hardly valid… as it is blatant exaggeration in many ways for one. Bots can farm candy corn, but they can not farm legendaries, so anything you can’t have a bot produce an overflowing supply for will behave naturally, in the sense that legendaries for example will never go below the crafting cost, unless someone is a fool and doesn’t do the math (of course the value of time invested is what makes the base price vary, since time is a large component of legendary crafting even if it is done as fast as possible).
In short, the more effectively ANet can combat bots the more natural and more predictable the market will behave, and in that equation currency exchange will not be a source of inflation, as long as ANet doesn’t wish to kill their own virtual economy.

I was thinking on spending some gems on keys but I wanted an informed opinion beforehand. Are the chest worth the investment? I mean, the Mystery Tonic is probably the biggest piece of crap I’ve seen in a game so far, but I do remember they said something about chests giving better rewards. Is it true or not?
Depends, you have… if I remember now it is 1 in 4 chance to get 3x Mystery Tonic vs previously always getting Mystery tonics. Their drop rate was adjusted to match some of the other items (check patch notes), which means that rather than wasting an item slot to Mystery tonic there is now 75% chance to get something kind of useful as the third item.
As for the other drop rates it is kind of difficult to tell, the rare items are still rare, and like someone said it seems as if the BL salvage kit is not as frequent. In my opinion it is worth it to spend any keys you may have saved up, but not necessarily to buy (whether it is gems bought with money or gems converted from gold) new ones.
If Lionguard Lyns still has keys in stock when she comes back it may be worth it to check whether gold to gems conversion or using the badges and TP to get keys is cheaper, but I wouldn’t put real money on the chests at this time (it is a gamble, so if you do it be prepared to loose, I bought 5 or 10 keys with money, and while my gamble paid off… it did so in the most useless way possible ie. I am now a proud owner of an endless mystery tonic :P).
tl;dr: It is still a gamble, and you should never gamble money you are not prepared to loose… whether it is real money or in game gold (through currency exchange).
(edited by Crise.9401)
…of this thread?
People shouldn’t gamble money they are not prepared to loose, whether it is in gems, dollars or in-game gold. While the RNG on the mystery boxes is a bit unfair in that you can get X of the same mini, never be guaranteed a full set no matter how much you spend and that they are not tradeable, in the end it is a gamble and that means you can always loose.
Whether it is a smart business on ANet’s part, how about people vote with their wallets rather than kittening about it (yes, it is obvious they are going after the completionists and that is sad, but the fact is as long as RNG boxes sell they will exist).
The skin is awesome.
It’s indeed awesome, but not an appropriate reward for a 5 day event…
Of course it is. Halloween gave a back piece too.
Besides, for Halloween you had to kind of work for it, this one is a freebie, for just logging in
However, there is a slight bug with the new distribution… which even sweetens the deal for some, that is if you are in need of 15 slot bags (they are account bound so will be nice for alts).
Another random endless tonic. Don’t do it if you care about the ones you already have.
My guess is that the recipe using the endless tonics is something else, like 3x endless tonic + x + y (would go in line with the fact that you have enough to make two minis). Just saying even if the specific recipe using endless tonics wasn’t the one everyone suspected that shouldn’t rule other things out, right?
Well not going to be brave enough to experiment, but just saying that it is possible.
What do we take away from this… never toss event items (before end of the event), actually I still have my candy powered meter thingy from halloween even, wonder if it still gives you toilet paper and ToT bags :P
One thing haloween did do right was selling the mini’s in bulk in the store.
So true, I bought 10 holiday boxes, and have no intention of buying any more… just because while I did get one of the mini’s from my 10 boxes, I am sure some weren’t that lucky and even then now if I get a duplicate there is nothing that can be done with it (well if you get more than 1 duplicate, since technically you would need 2 copies of each).
Oh, and if you get stuck in the instance and want to leave early, there is a teleporter out near the kittenpit (bottom level, at the far end, where Tixx and Toxx are).
Excessive swear filters are always a nice thing to have ‘kittenpit’, really… last I checked the word getting censored here has like a dozen or more uses (especially as parts of a word like here, but also on its own) that are not offensive in the least.
This really boggle’s the mind. While I am fine with the concept of the toy mini’s (from the event), because you can choose to get the two you really want through crafting in MF, if that is your cup of tea.
But these RNG account bound gemshop mini’s…. really, what if I end up with 3 x Mini Infinarium for example, the spares will be useless (can’t even use duplicates to craft the 4th mini in MF afaik), can’t be sold, gifted nor traded, so unless you really want the same mini on two characters they are the very definition of useless.
I am not much of a collector (hence why the concept with toy mini’s doesn’t bother me, especially with gem exchange), but 100% useless rewards from paid gambling irk me some.

at least we got sylvari to lead our storyline so is not all asura lol
Extremely infuriating sylvari with either an inferiority complex, or total lack of self-awareness.
Btw, asura are awesome, so are sylvari though… just not that one :P.
The title says it all, why is the tutorial about a mechanic that no longer exists still accessible through WvW instructor.
Just happened to click on him by accident and noticed it still there, whoever thought it was ok to neglect removing it along with the Orbs I wonder talk about confusing players who might actually need the instructor.
So people broke your fix within minutes, on Blacktide for example, Noll just indefinitely lays on the ground spouting greets to a group of on-lookers.
It’s like you didn’t even read the post. It says pretty clearly that the Noll fix isn’t live yet and won’t be until tomorrow.
It is live, that is if you can call it a fix.

The monthly event’s are world events, personal stories have more voice work associated with them especially if you start to expect branching and all that but even without.
You have to remember that lines recorded for one off things are more often than not reusable.
Same here, support 100%.
Funny thing about the jumping in MK dungeon, I only started screwing up the jumps after he was dead (or after running it multiple times to the point where I stopped paying attention).
Yeah figuring the best way down for your hp pool was bit tricky (ie. a guardian can take few liberties that a thief can’t), but beyond that it was certainly more interesting than a less vertical map would have been.. the scarecrows really work well with the map too.
Thief and got an exotic torch from mad king’s dungeon… and an exotic longbow from the labyrinth. Talk about bad luck profession wise, although got few gem store items from the dungeon as well.
Still I guess some people had it even worse at least I made some coin out of those two exotics, but I would have really wanted something to actually use. Though in a sense I would have also wanted an endless halloween tonic perhaps more than an exotic (since I have candy corn and mats saved up for crafting halloween exotics eventually).
Which one is better the classic mad king says with emotes or the dungeon variant that plays with the skill bar.
I think the dungeon variant could have been adapted to be used as a global game with some changes… the dynamic skill bar makes it more of a game of reaction, especially if the difficulty was adjusted slightly and made bit less predictable.
The one with emotes is nice too and naturally had a lot more variety in terms of moves… but that is just a technical question, since all the animations could be reused.
I gave up on it, well more like there was too many other things to do, so I had to choose whether to spend hours honing my jumping and getting to know the clocktower. Not terribly good at jumping puzzles, still enjoy them from time to time and just the knowledge that I can do content that is so different if I feel like it is worth a lot.
Which is probably what makes people so vocal about this particular jumping puzzle, by that I mean of course that it is going away for at least a year… and I can’t just try it again next weekend. Which makes it all the more special, but at the same time I had to choose which of the (more or less special) things that will not be there tomorrow morning I really want to do and focus on.
I like the premise of holiday content, and the fact that it is special, but at the same time seeing content like the clocktower or the halloween pvp games go when the event ends makes me just a tad sad in a way.
I can also confirm this as a bug, has happened to me twice.. the problem is that the map used is that of tyria rather than the mists, where the mad king maps are if I recall correctly… and thus all we see is underground tyria map with nothing on it at that position.
Keep in mind that the recipes stay around, while the Ascent to Madness instance will be gone after the 31st until at least next year.
For some reason I thought/hoped that the event/dungeon would be going until the following weekend… I really hope that it doesn’t close on the 31st…
The dungeon closes when the 4th act begins, I think this is stated somewhere besides here as well. Also, kinda makes sense… my guess is act 4 is a victory celebration of sorts as well as a way to close the portal (since we are still missing attend the party achievement).
Keep in mind that the recipes stay around, while the Ascent to Madness instance will be gone after the 31st until at least next year.
Do the mystic forge recipes for getting the recipes stick around as well? I got 4500 candy corn sitting in bank waiting to be turned into two exotics, but no means to get the other (event independent) ingredients to make the recipes before the event runs its course.
There is a bug where the mad king remains on his rock platform and the message “Do as the Mad King says” remains. No amount exiting/reentering will fix the bug. Problem is if you enter someone else’s instance that is bugged you will be bugged as well and pass it along to the next group you join.
Any fixes for this?
Leave party and restart the game… or go to character select.
why would the pumpkin carving and the tower not count, and why would you not bother to tell anyone? This makes no sense.
This is probably why… pumpkin carving has its own title associated with it and the jumping puzzle is ridiculously hard (don’t get me wrong it is nice piece of content, but most jumping puzzles are not required for things like map completion… so I am guessing similar way of thinking here).
Whether I personally agree with all of the above is besides the point, pumpkin carver is pretty easy since you don’t have to carve unique pumpkins for example and the jumping puzzle well is a jumping puzzle.
Is server capacity permanently based on registered accounts, or current logins at any given moment?
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: Crise.9401
So unless its changed its based on number of players online, not number of accounts on the server.
I had the same happen, but transfers are free, so that is not indicative of anything… people were bunny hopping servers for crafting nodes for goodness sake. Considering they have no queueing on the world selection, it has to be based on account count, otherwise it would make no sense to not have queue or just put you on an overflow until there was room.
@Dragonlord
They already have email authentication… which when someone logs into your account from new IP sends an email with a link you have to use to authorize that log in attempt before it is completed.
Actually no that does not mean they have my password…what it means is they have ATTEMPTED to log in but did not succeed.
The email you are getting does mean they have your password, they don’t send emails on login attempts with incorrect passwords, just a fyi. If the email asks you to authorize a login then someone has already provided the correct details to login in to your account and were only unsuccessful because of the email authentication system.
Bottom line, you get that email you change your password (unless it is you logging in from a new computer), easy and simple.
(edited by Crise.9401)
Piece of advice, if you don’t actually want a refund, don’t even ask a question about it from CS (in a support ticket about hacked account no less), they probably have so many tickets to go through that a representative saw the mention of a refund and just processed it without actually reading the ticket with much thought.
The refund policy states that ANet will only issue refunds for digital copies purchased directly from them, for all other refunds you need to contact the original retailer. Zavi probably would refuse a refund of the CE though, since it is not like they can resell it… lot of stores don’t accept refunds on (opened) PC games at all, unless there is support for that from the publisher in case of broken copies etc.
For a 3rd party retailer a refund would involve a lot of leg work, because they can’t directly disable serials, so they would have to first get the serial on the account disabled through ANet and then probably contact the publisher to get compensation for the refund. Well, this would be the process in the case of a faulty product, but MMO’s are a stingy subject, as things like hacked account does not constitute a faulty product and the basis for when a refund is acceptable course of action is debatable.

You try change password?
Indeed, not changing your password after several emails is asking for trouble eventually they will get through.
Change your password to something you’ve never used anywhere. Because that email means they know your current password.
Since we do use this at work, I can say we have never had a failure in the second tier resulting in having to
only use password authentication. So I don’t buy into your argument.
No offense, but considering ANet’s track record with things like the trading post or account security features, I am very much willing to by into my own argument even though I won’t necessary think of it as a likely scenario.
This is not accurate we are discussing passwords that are the safest to use. If you use a different password for
every site you login into and they are not variations of a primary password after a while you won’t
remember all of them.
The thing is, I and most users will not care about every site we log into or register on as much as we do about others. I do have several throwaway passwords myself, but for everything that matters I do have unique memorized (and if I have problem remembering I will simply reset those passwords create a new ones).
So you will need a password program to remember them and then these passwords do make sense. Here is an example of this time of program: http://keepass.info/
Yes and such programs are known, and thus their storage and operating mechanics are a constant target, even very high level encryption can be broken, it is a constant race.. and people won’t stop trying even if it seems theoretically impossible or impractical, just as people have been trying to crack the human genetic code for ages.
Persistent password storage is not a solution, for example… a program that turns a humanly memorizable password into a strong password on input is much better (of course only as good as the algorithms it uses are obviously).
You know, in a game with only team based PvP, if a thief or whatever other profession is wasting his efforts on you and needs to run from you in the end. That is you having done your job. You wasted his time and did not get killed, sure you did not get a kill either, but in a team scenario driving/keeping a player off a point or wasting their time is a win in its own right.
You can’t catch anyone, passive speed boost proc from utility skills, meaning they are using up an utility slot for mobility instead of something offensive and for the record, afaik only elementalists and thiefs have passive speed bonus in signets. Neither are exactly in the same level of durability as your guardian I am afraid.

Can we have an authenticator service then?
You can and you will, if you read the recent article, they are working on one.
And you have no gap closers? Or means to grant swiftness to yourself?
(edited by Crise.9401)
I prefer something that is easy to remember with an authenticator as it is even more secure.
And if they ever needed to take the authenticator offline for one reason or another, you would be prime target for someone to get to during that time.
The two tier authentication is two tier for two reasons, not everybody uses it and secondly because if one of those fails the second will prevent intrusion.
Your link btw is totally useless, passwords are intended to be memorized not written down or stored in a browser, most people will not memorize even one password of that kind let alone multiple.

Any idea when this issue will be fixed? I’m still getting the same problem and trying to work around it is a bit frustrating.
The permalink button is always there, you can just copy it and add “/quote” or “/edit” to it. While the issue is very annoying, this does work fine in the mean time.
Though please fix it, ANet
