Indeed, as guild leader your most valuable attitude has to be patience.
If you’re not patient with what you build, it will fail and fall apart faster than it took to grow. I had that in another game where the approach was to become strong and powerful as fast as possible, the sacrifice was a good chemestry between the people.
It grew within days, it held for weeks, it fell apart in hours.
And as guildleader its always terrible to see something you put effort in to fall apart, thats why i changed my approach completely, I wont care if i stay with these few guys for weeks before we find other people to join, I know these guys will be loyal and that’s what matters more than numbers.
If the people you have surrounded around you are loyal, the number does not matter anymore. It can be 10, 20, 50 even 100.
The thing is that many leaders expect is that their guild is growing fast to where they want them, many thing “if i once get this number, everything gets rolling”, which is a big mistake.
I have a small guild aswell, 7 active people. Well, 4 of us been playing mmos together already for a long time so we made that guild and had a fine core already.
We dont just recruit anybody, and well, kick people quite fast when we realize they are not really active or interested. the people that joined us and stayed, are active on chat and even voice chat.
We dont hurry to grow, if we find people that want to come along with us they are invited of course, but we have no rush on that.

a little bump, we still recruit people to join us.
hey I have sent you a PM
It’s all on you pretty much.
The main question you have to ask yourself is: do you want to lead “a server army” in the field?
If you basically say yes to this question, you have already a better premise than most of the people that have the commanderbook.
You dont really need to know battle strategies, there are plenty people in the field that have good ideas and would also buy the commanderbook if they had the money for it. You could team up with them, take their advice and learn to be able to make own calls once. However, this of course requires that you already know people that try to lead without commander book.
Additional to that, you can always turn off the commander if you wnat to be left alone.
I dont have a commander book myself since i dont farm or buy gold, i spent gold regularly on crafting mats for my secondary chars be it getting their jobs up or craft gear for them.
I actually disagree with Toble on the guildless being useless part aswell, I think a guildless commander will work with the server alot more than a commander that “only wants to have the sign for his guildies”.
Its all on you and what you want, the duty you get by having the commander on is, that people will follow you and will ask you for commands, but also will message you ideas and what probably a good move would be, the final call will be still yours, since you’re visible to everyone of your server on the map
Well for myself, I have a secondary character that i can levelup when theres really nothing to do in WvW due a ridiculous low amount of people.
However most of the time i group up with guildies in WvW and we start taking Supply Camps, over and over again, sometimes we manage to get more people to join us, be it just because they see us and run with us, or because we write in chat what we’re taking, the bigger the group, the better and we might go for a tower. That works out really good a lot of times.
thieves, and then a vey long time nothing
a Commander tag by guild influence would, just like right now, not mean alot either.
Big guilds gain influence pretty fast, even my 11-man guild is gaining lots of influence just by playing WvW alot. and then again, just because you have lots of people in your guild, does not necessarily mean you are a good strategist / commander. In fact, it would be the same thing as with the 100g right now, if you have 100 ppl that each give 1 gold or 100 ppl that gather the influence for you, no difference
I’m completely with zero that the commander tag should be earned by faith of the people you try to command, and nothing else.
@Speno within the guild layer, why have “ranks” there?
actually, i wouldnt even make to many ranks and rather limit the number of commanders (or any other rank) to 2-3 in total.
By your ranks it would be easy to achieve 5 Lieutenant with 12 followers each, or even more. However this wouldnt lead anywhere i believe. If you limit the number to 2 public “icons on the map” it will be alot more efficient, and for this, you dont really need ranks, just give those two that have the most (non guild)-votes on them the tag and it’s done.
Hello Tajah, I also sent you a pm :-)
Greetings

we are still looking for member – we got a few recruits recently and already provide a good teamplay as guild
if you dont feel happy in a guild with a great number of people and want to try a smaller guild hit me a message
Underworld needs a small but well organized WvW guild due the lack of great commanders (i’ve met like 5 good ones so far) working as a guild will be alot better
I do understand that point. I still believe there needs to be a counter mechanism other than blocking. If you block a commander you dont like for whatever reason, it has no negative effect on him at all. Maybe do it by some kind of favor-over-time system. If you got many positive votes for a long period of time, a single negative vote wont do anything bad to you until more people vote you down, over a period of time aswell, kinda like the current wvw score system
that would back up abuse from opponent spies or personal dislikes.
doenst even have to be that complicated,
just make it even more simple: a like and dislike system.
If the dislikes you get outnumber the likes you get, you lose the commander or get ranked down.
So if you see a commander doing a crap job, just give him a dislike.
I do agree aswell, that commander and guild claiming should not be related, after all, guild claiming is pretty much only a matter of speed after a keep or tower is lost, that you are able to talk to that guy faster than anyone else, doesnt make you a good commander
the good stuff about zerospins idea is, that the votes can be taken back and changed, aswell that the commander is first only temporarly. once he logged off the votes vanish.
but there shouldnt be any other way earning the commander than getting faith from people that are not directly related to you due being in the same guild.
@zTales i wouldnt limit it with numbers for the guild layer, myself, i dont want a guild with 50 people in but still want them to know where I or my appointed commander is at on the map.
The numbers your provide would work for the public layer tho
Yeah a guild commander tag could be easily added. The system could work in layers, the public layer, and the guild layer. If only your guild mates voted for you, then your symbol would be visible only to them. If you also issue commands in the chat, non-guildies may vote for you, and you will also become a public commander. Your guild would still see you as a guild commander, but others would also see you as a normal commander.
absolutely !
@Daylos same for me, but that sadly isnt enough most of the time :/
unless they dont have a clue themself :P
However, i understand your point but I believe the adjustments i suggested would make the system even more efficient.
we had a commander a few days ago, that only had the commander tag up because he wanted his guildies to know where he goes to, that would be completely covered with the slight adjustmend of making a guild-commander-flag for wvw within the guild-adminstration.
I know you wrote that you could turn down the commanderflag for yourself, but then again, you need to rely on other people to listen to you and do the same, even vote for someone else.
But why do you need this rivality for a certain player?
You got the guildname and the server, imo that serves enough potential.
Other than that, there is still sPvP, not sure tough wether thats world-wide or just within a server since i barely play sPvP
I think if you bring this personal point into WvWvW, its going to be even more a flame war than a fight on the battleground.
I see only one positive effect on showing names in WvWvW, that would be reporting exploit-abusers and hackers.
I like the anonymous part aswell.
It makes pvp less personal, you dont start to hold grudges against that thief that kills you over and over again because you dont know his name, sure it takes out somewhat a social part, but to be really honest: how much interaction do you have with people from other servers beside WvWvW anyways?
hello zerospin,
I like your proposal, because i dont like the current commander system either.
but I highly doubt that a pure vote system would resolve that issue completely.
I’d like to have a little adjustment: votes from guildies (no matter if representing or not) should not count for the commander flag.
Otherwise guildies just vote for their commanders no matter if they are good or bad.
Instead there should be the possibility within the guild-ranking-system to flag someone up as Commander. However, this guild-commander should be only visible to guildies if representing. Maybe by adding a WvW-Commander section on the guildadminsitration where the Guild-Leader can add people of his Roster without playing around with the Guild-Ranks itself.
Other than that point, i like your recommendation system alot more than the bought title.

Hello everyone,
We are an international Guild with focus on WvW but we also enjoy to run Dungeons and other PvE Stuff. Basically, we enjoy anything that is fun and rather take a guildie than a pug with us. We’ve grown to like 10 active Member so far and we look forward to grow further.
Here’s a small list of our basic recruitment rules:
- Age 18+
- Represent the guild
- be relaxed even if something doesnt work out the way you want it
- play the game for fun
Our goal is to build up a nice and social guild to help our server in the WvW ladders. This of course includes helping out people with Dungeons if they want certain gear from that to become more effective with their toon.
Even tough the Website states we’re not recruiting Rangers and Elementalists, this shouldnt keep you off contacting me if you are one of these professions and would like to look into us.
overall, we’re really relaxed and dont have to tough rules.
Aswell we do have a website (check the signature) and a TS3 Server for voice chatting.
If you’re interested and want to chat a bit about the guild and anything else look out ingame for
Leandra Soltar, Leandra Zokora, Ragnarskrag, Shakki, Erza Blazefiend, Kensuki, Cruzyo or Confunda
if none of them is on, hit me with a message on this forums
and last but not least, I gotta warn you: we all are somewhat crazy
Best Wishes
