Great Idea.
Every Professionshould be able to specialize into a category by taking a certain elite skill.

  • Guardians: (Elite) Shout, Symbol, Consecration, Meditation, Spirit Weapon, Signet*
  • Necros: (Elite) Well, Signet, Mark, Corruption, Spectral*

Those should have a similar power level as some higher Cd skills from Transformation elites.

I still expect the Honor Symbol traits to be merged (radius+duration).
The Zeal minors need to be merged or replaced by something else.

Before the grandmaster-disappointment, I dreamed of a trait like: “all Symbols pulse from you, 15% more damage from Symbols”

Character creation screen —> roll thief.

This. I rolled a thief day 1 and I can beat every class, 100% of the time, regardless of their build. All I have to do is enter stealth around them, and they suddenly stop moving and let me stab them to death. Thief OP, nerf plz.

I giggle and sometime start laughing when we have thieves as opponents (tPvP that is)
They wipe instantly vs medium-skilledplayers and against decent PvPers their client automatically uninstalls itself.

Another cool idea goes unnoticed. Yes, I remember the dozens of posts on the horizontal progession CDI suggesting more weapon skills.
I strongly believe those are on Anet‘s watch. At least I hope they are. Explorable traits are a step in the right direction, additional weapon skills can make use of the “new” system.

I like it small, I actually hate all the other back pieces that are huge and bulky (looking at you spinal blades and karkashell)

Exactly… If you don‘t like it, don‘t craft it…Seems simply enough. If you want “XX DRAGONSLAYER XX” – back pieces, go for those blue wings. Don‘t forget T3 Charr Heavy and Twilight for supreme and awesome looks!

Expect the feature patch to come late. Well that was it expectation wise. You are better off keeping those extremely low.
Best case scenario is a mind blowing suprise when patch day finally goes live, worst case is another meh…

I know it is hard to keep expectations low as Anet loves to tease and advertise their stuff hard (and too early) and also with additions of weird jokes and rather weird dialogues between staff members?!

I expect minor class changes (balance, sry I giggle atm) some nice back pieces, some bug fixes and a minor overhaul to PvP rewards after they will have taken glory out for at least a month. I think this is somewhat realistic.

Hey Chris, first of all: Thanks for your interest shown in this CDI.
The way you wrote this segment makes me wonder if this CDI has been around for too long. What about the dozens of people who promoted additional (and optional) weapon skill modifications?

I feel as if this CDI revolved around topics I don’t really care much about over the past 30 pages… (I have to admit that I stopped at 26 and only read one in two pages after that) Mounts, player housing. Those are all fun and games and I cannot say a thing against them. Unless it’s priority-wise.

I wish you would add additional weapon skills on that list, because I feel that those are more important than let’s say entirely new weapons. Is it something you didn’t see since it was a hot topic early on?
Or maybe I misinterpreted your post?
I would very much like to hear about optional weapon skills to alternate my action bar since sometimes single skills don’t really fit one’s playstyle.

1 – More Weapon skills. At least 1 Option to alternate the fixed 1-5 weapon skills. They will alternate the basic skill’s function without making it stronger. (Necro Staff #2: Remove the regen but add 2 bleeds)

2 – More build relevant elites.
There should be an elite shout/consecration/symbol/meditation for guardians i.e

3 – Options to alternate existing armors with particle effects.
For examle frost aura or flames…

Other than those, there are some very nice ideas in this thread. I disagree on many things to be a priority for example mounts or generally more armors and dyes… Those would be secondary from my point of view… But all these rather basic ideas would not hurt GW2

Throw Axe from Frostfang could apply Chilled instead of Crippled.

I like your ideas but this one is the absolute opposite of what we want to achieve here. This sounds like vertical progression as non-legendary weapons are inferior, even if it’s because a necro with Frostfang has an advantage of 1 sec chilled.

I think something the was clearly Control orientated, since it don’t really have a stat, besides partially Condition Duration.

I thought about a similar aproach like your previous idea. An overall decrease in CC effectivess (including hard cc).

Idea 1
Take Engineer’s Big Ol’ Bomb. (curently launches 400’)

  • Zero control-effectiveness means it launches for 50’
  • with full “control-effectiveness” (let’s say 30 in that trait line) will launch 500’

Idea 2
Take Necromancer’s DS#3 fear

  • Zero “control-effectiveness” gives a zero % chance to bypass defiant and stability
  • 30 “controll-effectiveness” gives a 50% chance to pierce those effects. Even blocking.

Obviously with that huge investment, you won’t we able to perma cc while also dealing huge DPS (warrior mace/shield+hammer as example).

Hehe, it would even solve the problem of defiant in PvE.

Support, in short this is Healing and Boons, but also other effects such as Wards and Reflection.

  • In addition, Healing Power should directly effect the effectiveness of certain boons, both new and existing. Such as Protection, say it reduces 20% base damage + (Healing Power / 25). So having say 1250 healing power would allow you to put out Protection reduce 70% of direct damage. (very rough example)
  • Add new boons such as: Barrier, absorb damage up to a set amount, stacking in intensity up to 5 stacks. 20 + (6 x lvl) + Healing x 2.6) Example: 1250 HP would absorb 3750 per stack, up to a grand total of 18750 damage.
  • Increase boon removal or manipulation in direct proportion to any increase of

This is such a great idea that I feel reminded of something that has been posted months ago but sadly mostly has been ignored because there was a lot of rumble about other “critical” posts such as ascended gear.

GW2 “buff” system is rather simple – and that is fine. Players can learn all effects within one visit of the wiki. What changes if player stats directly affect a boon’s effectiveness? Player’s can easily understand that a support character’s Regen ALREADY heals more than a let’s say Zerker’s.
But why a full-on Zerker can cast the exact same protection as a full support ele/guard/engineer is rather odd?!

This idea is great, number tweaking is important though. The base boon should still be a “buff” while the full-throttle boon shoudln’t make or break combat. On the top of my head with protection: Range would go from 20%-55% with full investment.

I have several ideas on how to implement these ideas. One would be a to have three respective trait lines, call them sub-professions.
These would naturally have a new stat called control/support/damage-effectiveness which alternates respective boons/conditions.
Also respective traits would be affecting certain boons/conditions so one can have a maximum of three boons/conditions affected. Even more choices <3

What do you guys think of this?? I would especially ask Lost Witch, Yoh, Diogo Silva and Nike since I read your posts with most interest. Even if some ideas are contradicting each other

I absolutely love your idea about weapon skill expansion. Pretty much exactly how you proposed it. Having that little “tweak” for each skill would even be enough to further define one’s role in GW2.
It actually fits every request that has been made in this sub forum…

Another example would be Staff#2 Necro:
Mark of Blood
0 – Normal functionality, 3 stacks of bleeding, self regen
1 – 5 stacks of Torment, no regen
2 – No bleeding, higher base damage, pulses 3 times
3 – No bleeding, 2 sec protection, 5 sec regen to 5 allies in range
4 – (insert cc option)

While I agree on most points, I think ceating sub professions [keep your language clean] would be a great horizontal progression. One the one hand it would greatly compliment a certain way of playing. On the other hand, it would offer much needed customization options and diversity.
Problem: While this is a great idea, I personally believe implementing auto attacking mobs (and other mechanics) to reduce zerker-only playstyle. Zerkers should have their place in a group, but it should come with a price. That drawback would be lowered by either control or support.

How this is implemented doesn’t really matter. I personally believe in more option to choose from especially weapon skills. Also Elite skills should play a role in a player’s build as they did in GW1: Defining a build

Other than that I completely agree and think it’s important to also express negative feelings towards ideas. (in a constructive manner like you)

You have brought many causes for problems with balance to my attention, thank you for the insights you offer. In my opinion your example with RTL is great. Anet had “no choice” but to outright nerf RTLs effectiveness.

I am yet unsure if I want a resource other than time to effect skills. How does Anet feel about this, considering the rather small amount of skills (compared to GW1 at least)?

The thing is, many players want a deeper customization for their chars. I really wish GW2 would take (at least small) steps towards the soft trinity. (Decrease base CC, do away with Defiant in PvE)

Back on topic, I think many ideas are great but some are quesionable. I feel uneasy about the ability to share gear or professions like some have mentioned. It just doesn’t feel right to “altoholics” (as they seem to be called^^)

1. I would like Elite skills to have a bigger impact on player’s builds as they currently do. How do the devs think about their current role??

I would like more elite skills to be added, mybe through different quest lines. Those would have cooldowns between 10-60 seconds and would be the center piece of a player’s build.
Example: An Elite Symbol/Shout/Consecration for guardians, an Elite Mark/Corruption/Well for Necs(they alredy have a minion) etc.

2. I would like if players could choose from more weapon skills. Even 2 options would suffice and accelerate diversity. What do the devs think of cutomizing weapon skills??

I want to customize all parts of my build. Adding an offensive and defensive option to each skill would allow players to further define their build and role
Example: Necro Staff #2 Either the curent one or mark that applies 5 stacks of vuln and deals more dmg but drops the regen, Guardian Mace #2 Either the current one or a symbol that applies might or fury, Warrior GS2 #2 Either the current one or a lower damage while blocking 3 attacks while attacking

3. How about adding particle effects to armor through various ways (mainly thinking of dungeons atm)??
Example: Buying a “frosty” aura with dungeon tokens from the Kodan dungeon, having a “fiery” aura from CoF.

This thread is a cool initiative from Anet, thanks for taking us serious. From what I red and witness on many class forums, people have lost faith, which I cannot comprehend when threads like these pop up weekly.

PS: What do the devs think about adding n auto attack to virtuallly all mobs between their slow attacks? (I feel like many people psted that idea for months now) I believe it would solve many problems like zerker-festing, pidgeon holing other player’s builds and finally stacking in dungeons. It would then require Anets staff to figure out how to promote CC and support oriented builds. (I KNOW, but think about t as a “soft trinity”

Will a dev please react to this thread???? I see so many “thumbs up” on lists that make me sick because of the truth they contain. I browse the forums at least four times as often as I log in.
I witness the majority of devs reply to poor ideas and “suck-up – threads”. Even though Anet made a great game (otherwise I would never comment here) the potential is wasted.

Fixing “stacking” as you claim it to be is alot simpler than body blocking.

Make control builds worth it and problem solved. Get rid of defiant and unshakeable they are poorly designed and thought out and do nothing but turn dungeon runs into an artificial DPS race.

Guardian add Longbows. Guardians are in need of a viable ranged weapon.

  1. would function like Trident 1
  2. would be a large AoE long time healing rain similar to the spirit weapon‘s.
    Maybe even some Aegis.

Thank you Bolthar for this amazing idea. You, me and many others want more weapon skills to be unlockable as you progress using a weapon over time.
Your suggestion fits very well into Anet‘s idea of “play your way” as you are no longer FORCED to use a specific weapon type.
My question would be: How many skills do you believe would be appropriate for let‘s say greatsword to have access to. Do you think 10 would be sufficient???

Man, I like this idea so much (mostly because it‘s quite similar to my own idea of giving us the option to slot 1 out of 3 skills per default weapon skill.)

Gold or Gems. Anything that excludes casuals from casually playing PvP because they need to keep up. Skins are fine. But why not skins/minipets/dyes that can only be obtained by good players? Why not?

I also want Hotjoin to be completely reward-free since people are absusing these to “farm” glory. HOW. IS. THIS. NOT. FIXED. YET? (Yes, I am talking about Skyhammer.)
