Point of interest: Foxlife didn’t leave. One of their folks hopped servers to play with a friend and was screen capped running in a golem for the other team. Much confusion ensued…
Join Borlis Pass! Because… me! ME! I’m cool and if you’re cool, you should want to play with me! And Ambrienne. She’s cool too. And Monkey Shines. Yeah. Monkey!
And Seidr has cookies!

This has been a pretty clean thread.. watcha talkin about?

Seriously. Last week Maguuma and DR had our thread locked before the match started. I think the final total was 3 threads locked.
Do we have to? ‘Cause then they will camp our jumping puzzle. It’s kitten annoying when we’re trying to defend our garrison and someone starts spamming chat with cries for help in the jumping puzzle. The jumping puzzle is, and always will be, an ‘at your own risk’ area. Personally, I’m a live and let live JPer and I’ve only been killed once there in four months. Do unto others…
This really is the most fun we’ve had in forever.
What if we all recruited the same number of folks? We’d still be even, yesh?
We are also looking for guilds with something to teach us! Borlis is an inclusive and friendly server that would happily welcome folks from all experience levels. Want to join a friendly community? We have that. Want your guild to make a visible difference? We have a place for you here! In Borlis Pass, every guild matters and every guild has a voice.
Let us hear yours!
First off, I want to say that I’m truly excited to see the scores this close. It’s been ages since we played a match where the end of the week wasn’t predicted by the end of the reset. Since we hit tier 5, it’s either been us ROFLstomping SF or HOD, or us being ROFLstomped by Ehmry, Dragonbrand, and Maguuma. This is the first competitive match up we’ve had in forever. The end of the week will actually depend on how well we fight. That is a happy change.
Seeing Kaineng kicking the kitten out of Ehmry makes me shudder. Ehmry are a terrifying server to face. I feel sooo bad for Devonas Rest, but I am so flippin glad I am not up there with them. Tier 5 breaks servers, but it looks like Kaineng is going to break tier 5.
Let the speeding trains race up the line. I prefer a match where any of the three teams could pull off the win.
Ya know what? No. I didn’t know that. That was my stupid.
“Compliments to AR for being far superior to the last time we played.”
Forgive me. I’m tired.
I look at it this way:
Many people in WvW devote countless hours and hundreds of gold to the cause.. whether it be with upgrades or siege weapons.. And they do it without the expectation of being reimbursed. Half the time they don’t even get recognized for their work. These are the people (a small portion of the population) who are the driving force in winning a match. More often than not they are commanders.
When those players see you trying to sell siege weapons instead of donating them to commanders or putting them down yourself, they’re going to call you out on it. They’ll accuse you of taking up a spot in WvW to do jumping puzzles and “make gold” instead of contributing to the war effort. And there’s nothing you can do to stop that.
Yep. Pretty much this…
Thanks to the 8 man BP supply camp group that dropped Zap for me about an hour ago!
We’re generous like that. :-D
Wasn’t your guild, EoH on BP, or DR previously?
Anvil Rock, unless I’m mistaken. Or was it GoM?
I’ve had that happen on my Guardian, and /dance will break it. But who has time for that in WvW combat?
Well, you seem to have our FOXlife now as well. They are all yours. No backsies!
I think this is the best match up BP has had in a long while, and would love to see it last. No one is truly ROFLstomping anyone else, and we’ve learned a tremendous amount about our own fortitude. It’s been great fun.
I’m from DR.
Here are my (admittedly back seat quarterbacking) thoughts regarding our implosion after not being able to last one week against a serious challenge in the higher tier…
Take a deep breath, friend, and let it out.
When BP first made it to this tier, we were told that this is the one that breaks servers, and it’s true. It seems each level is a little bit tougher than the one before until you make the jump from 6 to 5, then it’s a massive spike in playstyle and toughness. That momentum that propelled you up through the lower levels can give you quite the dented head when you hit the wall. You can either break and slide back down, or huddle up and figure out how to change up everything you thought you already had down pat.
I think we all have to struggle through this crucible to evolve. You will find the fair-weathered guilds will jump, but the die-hards will dig in and learn on the fly. Plan on sticking around at this level while you figure it out, and you will find that eventually you too will be the server that breaks the others coming up. Then set your sights on tier 4.
From the taste we’ve had of Tier 4 servers getting crowded out and slipping down here for a week before bouncing up again, the jump from 4 to 5 is just as rough. Do what you need to do here first.

Why is there a T6 on our thread >.>
you don’t belong here.
That’s our stalker. He’s still mad we moved up a tier 4 weeks ago and has been trolling our threads ever since. Now that DR pasted Anvil and moved up, he has double the reason to stalk.
I have heard of this Ram Lord. ~nods~
Dang, I missed the sooper sekret info…
“As of an hour ago, BP was actually still competitive. They also must get along better than all of the day guilds and work together as a team.”
Akshully, it’s the same folks. We just don’t sleep.
This is the most even match up we’ve had in weeks. Props to both teams for a fun and exciting new match up.
let’s not start the hack spat yet…
I saw three times where Maguuma mesmers portaled in groups to snag back a tower/keep we saw. All three times were our fault. I saw them still in our keep, I saw them drop a legit portal, and I died three times calling for back up (which came. w00t!) They were clean hits each time. Most of us ran to fix gates or charge off to another keep being attacked before we checked our nooks and crannies. Maguuma has some focused mesmers that know the drill. We gotta start looking for where their peeps go before the fight is over, not sweep when we think we’ve won.
It’s easy to cry foul and suspect sploits, we’ve all been victims of it, but that isn’t always the case. M’kay?
We headed out with an entire group of lvl 1 to 20 toons yesterday, now that was fun. Most fun I had all week in fact.
Screenshotted. Plok used the word “fun”, TWICE.
:)
lawl!
Good luck to Darkhaven. Our matches were so lopsided the last couple of weeks, I feel like we never really had a chance to test our mettle against each other. I hope we meet again when our third wheel is a little more equal to the two of us. Hold your heads up, peeps. You’ll bounce back up.
I just want to say that seeing this post restores my faith in the people who play this game. I salute the OP and all players who think honor is more important than points. You’re awesome.
Y’all keep posting updated scores. I’m still out of town for the holidays.
Apologies. But perhaps we could work on not getting thrown into walls/brigades? =)
He’s totally working on that. XD
Just spoke with the mesmer from [Arr] in question. Wasn’t hard to narrow it down, we are small and only have two. He wasn’t hacking a wall, he was embedded in a bridge after being thrown by a hit and had been since before the garrison fell. He couldn’t get out, and couldn’t break agro to WP.
I understand why you would assume it was an attempted exploit, we’e seen our share. However, he asks that you stop and think about where it was you saw him and understand that it would have been a useless location for a hack anyway.
We are a family guild and we take sportsmanship seriously.
And one other thing, Ehmery Bay, you obviously want our keep, we’ve been outmanned all day, just come and take it already … I think DH is tired of the whole thing.
And after you take it, don’t do any dancing and gesturing once we give a half-kitten attempt to take it back. Because, really, your victory doesn’t really mean anything to us.
just last week BP was asking for a rematch with Emery Bay. What changed?
-K
You just quoted a post by a guy in Darkhaven. If you’re gonna stalk our thread, try reading all of it.
Even a brand new character can make a huge difference if they are carrying supply. Jump in, and stay with a large group. Read chat, all of them, and learn. Play support until you feel you have a clue what is going on. Don’t buy or place siege until you know what each do and where to put them, but help build with the supply you carry. Best way to learn siege is by refreshing equipment that has already been dropped. That means: go into a tower or keep that your team already owns and go ahead and mess with stuff. You can’t break something you already own. Siege equipment despawns if not used, so noodling with it is a benefit to your team and a learning process for you.
Congratulations to Dragonbrand Server. A much deserved win. We learned a lot, and it was a great, great fight.
I always do this. It never occurred to me it might have been an exploit. When I leave for the night, I usually will give my leftover siege to any player that is going to stay on. It would be stupid if it wasn’t kosher, why would they have made the option to drop it?
" Just making a point that the BP crew that is racking up all the points isn’t the same group that is getting rolled by DB."
Yes it is, we’re just starting to crack from lack of sleep.
Just gonna say now, before the end, that this has been the best matchup I’ve fought yet. If DB moves up, gratz, you deserve it. If we fight it out another week, I’ll be bummed because I won’t be here for most of that time. To DH, for a server bleeding guilds, You are one tough nut to crack. I still say you’re not on your way down, you’re in a holding pattern until you can train up new folk.
To the BP crew that held on through the nights , you guys are awesome. We have sacrificed so much sleep this week to try and keep our lead. Don’t despair that we’re not doing as well as we’d have wished, be proud that we did better than some folk expected.
To those on all servers that celebrate the season, have a happy and safe holiday. To those that don’t, have an awesome next week just because.
I love how 1 person (no matter their level) can make a huge difference in WvW. Standing guard, working siege, running supply, so much for anyone of any level or ability to do. Best part of GW2 for me.
- Abbish – Dragonbrand
^this.
It’s weird how this thread has taken such a sharp turn. Seeing resentments and grudges form is just sad. It didn’t have to be this way. Most BPers are still thrilled with the level of commitment and sportsmanship shown by both of our opponents. I think the common consensus is that we will be fighting both of you for a while because this is were our current level of skill is. I also think that true judgement can’t be formed, since BP is now down to half-strength do to the holidays, and I can only assume the others servers are as well. It will be worse next week.
I still say that Darkhaven should concentrate on recruitment in the weeks following the holidays. A lot of folk are going to be getting the game as a gift, and you will have a fresh pool of new recruits. Your next best commander might not even own the game yet. The game is only a couple of months old and changes are coming. Don’t lose hope. If you slip down a tier, you will be back up quickly. Y’all are too good to stay down long.
Now, about spying… I won’t address the screened-capped chat box—as I know nothing about it, nor did I see it here before it was apparently pulled—however, I want to talk about spying in general. Is the paranoia worth it? I’ve seen the fear of spies in my own server and teamchat turn away new folk who were just starting to feel like they were part of the community. Spying suxs. Cheating sux. The dedicated players everywhere will already agree with this. But what is it a spy will do that will ruin everything? Tell everyone on the opposing team where we’re going? Well, the pugs that mass-attack the crossing guard and trigger the orange swords kind of already did that. Tell them we have four golems on the move? We’re so inept at herding golems I think they only need to look out their window to see them coming. I’m not saying that folks shouldn’t be circumspect in certain situations, but this mass fear of spying can suck the fun out of the game. The paranoia has got to go. Week after week itamazes me how fast someone will jump to the conclusion that our two opponents are working together because on a Friday after reset, we were fighting both teams at once in Stonemist. Um, isn’t grabbing SM first the point? Why wouldn’t we be fighting both of them at the same time? There’s no conspiracy. Sure, opponents can resent each other (the seeds start here) but that doesn’t mean they’re calling up the other guy and planning their coordinated takedown. It’s an easy conclusion to jump to, but 99% of the time, it’s a false conclusion.
I would much rather deal with having been hurt by a spy after the fact, then spend my time being proactive against spying to the point that the game is no longer fun, friendly, or inclusive of new folk who want to feel like they are part of the team. Why? Because this is supposed to be fun.
That’s my two-cents, and if this post gets pulled, and I get infracted again, I give up.
You gotta admit, looking through this thread and another, a couple of us did come off with ‘an excess of confidence.’ We’re really not that full of ourselves, just excited.
Definitely, this is a much better caliber of teams, and absolutely are we enjoying the battles. Huge relief to actually have to anticipate an enemy’s strategy and adapt our defense, and not just have to patrol terrain exploit areas for the sudden 30-man cheat team and their ten disposable golems.
Soooo transfers was a joke? No transfers? ~whew~
M’kay. Heartburn gone.
Now. About the 30 second warning before we’re tossed from the game….
I gotta admit that having DH peeps jump to our server in teh middle of a match gives me heartburn. I always welcome new players, but…. yeah. Sportsmanship, ya know?
I was already having difficulty playing my Engineer. She was only up to level 25, but it seemed even with that much room to grow, she was looking to be fairly useless in WvW. I was trying not to whine about her being underpowered, assuming I wasn’t playing her correctly, but when I read they’d nerfed Engs again, the third time since launch, I gave up. Now I have a shiny new guardian. Thief shortbow/pistol or Warrior longbow/rifle are the best distance. Their bow skills are better to me than the Ranger’s.
We’re all witnessing the death of a server right now pretty much. Darkhaven’s wvwvw population is disappearing into thin air as we speak.
Dem free transfers.
That’s a damned shame. You guys are really awesome players. Maybe a big recruitment push after the holidays? Lotta folks going to get GW2 for Xmas.
Our queues have pretty much evaporated except for EB and the home map when those lands are heavily contested. I think the 4-map queues were a sign of growing enthusiasm by our PvE population that quickly evaporated when: 1. the new download took an hour and triggered their ADD, and 2. they realized that WvW can be seriously frustrating. I predict the rest of the week you will be facing our usual population numbers, minus a few who want the Wintersday events.
Can we NOT brag about moving up next week until we actually win this week? DB and DH are no joke. Hubris will get us nowhere.
~clings to map~
Ho, boy. This is gonna be a wild ride.
This is going to be a good match up. The fights tonight have proven to me it’s not just about having more peeps, but how smart you play. There’s no ROFLstomping, no mindless zerging, and no easy ganking of supply. Both DB and DH have a lot to teach us, and several of us are really in awe of your coordination and tactics. It’s obvious we’re playing against better caliber of servers, and I’m very much looking forward to developing new tactics to fight the teams we’re up against now. This is going to be a good week.
@Kodiak: Go home, puppy. These guys would eat you for lunch.
Farewell AR. Good luck to [METL] and [LS], good fights from honorable guilds. Sad that I can’t say the same about far too many others. If the negativity in AR continues, you will not catch up to us again.
Okay, if you are enjoying the roleplay/permadeath aspect, then that’s awesome. I think you’ll be fine, as long as you keep going the way you are. Since you never Alt f4’d before, and now you know it’s not a viable option to avoid death anyway, then just keep playing as you do. A random game crash during combat has always been a risk for you anyway. If it’s server-wide, you’ll be fine. If it’s your connection, then you ran the risk of not realizing you were still in game for a fow moments and getting killed all along. I think it’s a non-issue for your play-style, and the cons of allowing the Alt f4 escape for those of us who play with a no-holds-barred style, outweigh the inconvenience for a small minority of players. imho.
Good luck with your survival achievement.
I seriously don’t understand why you would want to take a character working on the survival achievement to WvW to begin with. I get how cool it is to beat the PvE game without dying. That’s awesome. But why would you take that character to WvW, which is, by it’s very design, a war game. With casualties.
Also, can you not just make a different character to play WvW? Are the deaths connected to the account? Or that character?
Y’all best be afraid, we got our best man on the job. This ram and its rammer will end your happy days.
ROFL! Thank you, that gave me a much needed laugh. Earlier in the week I ran to support an attack on lake and saw we’d dropped three flame rams on the north wall. Our noobs are epic noobs! Of course, I’m hardly one to talk. I’ve mis-clicked and embedded an arrow cart in a gate during a furious assault, and dropped flame rams in the middle of nowhere when I was trying for catapults. If there was an emote for whistling innocently and walking away, I would be all over that sucker.
To the SF mesmer [SANC] that continuously tried to do terrain exploits all night, I respectfully advise you to stop. When I first saw you, you had embedded yourself in the top of the outside wall at Hills. Then you came back, not 15 minutes later, to try again and got a Madz dagger for your pains. Then you tried your cute little shimmy dance until you figured out how to scoot up the wall of Bay and pop over the water gate. It was almost admirable how much dedication and perseverance you showed. I watched you the entire time.
I’m sure you thought you were just having fun and all’s fair in love and war, and it would have seemed awesome had it worked and you managed to take back bay from us. But you should know that I have screen shots of everything, and what you were doing could get you banned from the game. A good mesmer hides, yes, and ports in his teammates for a killing stroke. However, good mesmers don’t need to cheat to be awesome.
You seemed like a gentlemanly fellow, the bow when you knew the jig was up was a nice touch, so I decided not to send my screenshots to ANet. I’m gonna post a couple from our last rendezvous here instead. Hopefully, you are here to see them. If not, perhaps one of your SF buddies will give you the heads up.
If we catch you again, game’s over.
(edited by Dark Aidget.3879)
I haven’t noticed an improvement, but I have noticed vanishing teammates. This is especially a problem when it’s your commander that has vanished by walking all of ten feet away from the group, or the commander waiting to launch an offensive because he doesn’t see his group is already with him.
“Players that won’t get the same amount of badges, players that won’t get the thanks. Yet in the end their heals, buffs, and the defense they bring allow us to win.”
This.
