This past weekend was a bitterly painful one in PvP for many. Myself, and friends, all experienced several matches where players quit matches on both sides of the game. This kind of behavior seems to be exacerbated by Mist weekends. Having no punishment for abandoning a match really just help promote the favorable winds players who jump from match to match seeking wins and rewards, or those with unsportsmanlike like conduct.
I’m NOT saying that original Dishonorable system was perfect, however, there needs to be some negative impact to players who don’t care about their leader board ranking in order to correct this behavior. I think this kind of change would only help strengthen the PvP community. Obviously we want a system that has some room for things like people accidentally disconnecting, sever issues, etc, but something to persuade people not to quit would be better than what we have currently.
I also think that it would be great if the game had some vote to Concede a game. Requiring 4 out 5 members (if all are online) to vote yes to concede a game would be great. That way in cases where you do have a quitter you can quickly and easily end the match and move on. These events could result in half or no reward for the conceding team, but it would allow an easy way out.
An alternate idea I had for dishonored would be to make it a community driven element. I think League has proven that self policed communities do work and I think adding a simple vote at the end of a match for each player for Honorable or Dishonorable. In the long term of match making you could have this count towards a factor of making teams – Honorable players are matched against, and paired with other honorable players, and the likewise for dishonored players.
Clearly some factors for trolling and things need to be taken into account – you can only vote if you were online the whole match, you only get to vote for one person per match etc, would help deflate the statistical invalidity and give some credence to a player with several honorable votes. Maybe a player can even wear this as a badge of honor in game as a title after they receive a certain number of votes to showcase their sportsmanlike conduct.
Obviously these are some pretty nebulous constructs I’ve proposed here, but I think with some noodling, and careful thought implementation of systems like these could benefit the structured player versus player community as a whole.
Thoughts?
Dear Anet,
This has seemed to fallen into the back burner of other issues exploding but for many it is a very important one. Any status update on this would be greatly appreciated…
This will not stop gold sellers. The gold has to come from the game and if the game’s economy is so jacked up that this dramatic action needs to be taken than maybe you should devalue the currency? Make gem to gold transfers comparable with gold sellers then people will just buy gold from you, and then increase the amount of gold for things.
I still don’t understand why you guys took repair costs out of the game, there is very little money being removed from the economy now other than TP and WP fees which are nil compared to the money being created…
Also, how will this effect transactions over 500g on the AH for some of the expensive skins, precursors, and legendary weapons? Are you really going to make people wait a month to get the full value of the item they sold? Or even multiple small transactions? “The maximum total amount of gold that an individual player account can accept in a week will be 500 gold.” I could liquidate all my assets right now for about 3000 gold, and you are telling me I would have to wait over a month to get all that? That is ridiculous.
Instead of putting a band-aid on a hemorrhaging wound why don’t you guys find the actual root cause of the problem and address that? Just simply pulling a data base file on the amount of gold being transferred is not a good use case scenario since the law of average here destroys the people who are very active or even play the TP.
This is probably the worst design decision to date I have seen you guys make. Very disappointed.
I’m waiting for the official stream and the beta tomorrow to give my feedback on the new map. I am not optimistic…
I generally don’t post much in the forums because anything constructive posted gets moderated or deleted… but here we go. All of this is my own constructive criticism on the recent stability change.
The recent stability changes to the game have really made wvw open field fights not fun. I’m not saying that the way it was before was right, or that the new design is bad or wrong, but what I am saying is its not fun.
Now it really boils down to a numbers game or who gets caught first. For the most part GvGs really didn’t change a ton it just got even more pirate ship like, which started before the patch.
The biggest thing is that melee is useless at this point unless they are wearing full tank gear. It leaves little room for build diversity, and removes the rock/paper/scissors balance that somewhat existed before.
At the end of the day this is a perfect example of the developers continuing trend to not listen to the WvW community.
I havent given a ton of thought on what I would do to fix this… maybe make heavies more naturally tanky to improve build diversity. Adjust the number and duration of stability stacks applied.
In conclusion, WvW just is not fun anymore. People just circle each other for a while, casters trying to cast on the enemies, then one group makes a move and the other dodges out. Repeat, until one group lands a CC or the other group gets bored and pushed and then people melt. The end. There really aren’t any tactics anymore. It is very disappointing.
I would think that the developers would be able to run some sort of diff on their data base to identify accounts that have the title and have not linked their accounts and roll those back or at least remove the title and AP. In line with that they should also be able to run a script that would pull all accounts that are linked that have the achievement in GW2 but not in GW1 and roll them back as well. I think that would be the most amicable solution.

Mission Statement: Zeitgeist is a guild of players who play Guild Wars 2. ZGT’s goal is to become a close knit community of like minded individuals who strive to succeed in all aspects of PvP and WvW.
Guild Tenants (How to BE NO EGO)
- Be Humble. Understand you are a (small) part of the world. Service and patience should be top priorities.
- Be Teachable. Focus on what you can learn, rather than showing what you know. Much of what you know began with the work of someone else.
- Listen More. Make every effort to truly understand what others are saying (beyond just words). Allow a gap of silence before responding. Ask questions (and listen, again).
- Appreciate People. Enjoy others’ contributions. Don’t squelch ideas or defend territory. Encourage more.
- Relax. Let go of the need to be right or win every time.
Guild Structure
I. Guild Master – The head of the council. This individual holds veto power over the council and guides and directs the guild to achieve its goals, grow, and succeed.
II. The Council – 5 Officers comprise the council. Each responsible for an aspect of the guild but collectively share all responsibilities. They are a team and work together to lead the guild with the Guild Master.
- Master of War – This officer is the PvP commander. They are responsible for organizing all guild PvP activities and being knowledgeable about the PvP mechanics in game.
- Master of Adventure – Master of Adventure – This officer oversees all sPvP aspects of the guild. They are responsible for organizing teams, and being knowledgeable on all sPvP aspects of the game.
- Master of Whispers – This officer is the communications officer who is responsible for all guild communications, website, team speak, social media, and streams.
- Master of Coin – This officer is manages the guild bank and funds. They are responsible for organizing guild assets, tracking guild funds, and managing and running guild contests and raffles.
- Master of Knowledge – This officer is the person in charge of all recruiting efforts and guild morale. They also are the go to person for game knowledge and information about crafting, game mechanics, and theory.
III. Veteran – Guild veterans are members who have proven themselves to be dedicated members of ZGT. They actively participate in game, team speak, and the website. These members have shown excellence in the game. Strive to better themselves and the ZGT Community.
IV. Guild Member – Guild members have passed their recruitment period. They are active withing the guild and community.
V. Recruit – New members in ZGT are placed in the Recruit rank. These members stay at this rank during their 2 week evaluation period. (Note: Real Life Friends and Family of existing ZGT members are not subject the 2 week trial period are moved to the Friends and Family rank with guild member sponsorship).
Guild Member Expectations
- BE NO EGO (See guild tenants above.)
- Be Knowledgeable – Don’t expect people to hold your hand through the game. Do research, understand your class and role, what gear is best, what builds are good. It is your responsibility to understand your character and the game. Don’t make us google for you.
- Be Prepared – Be on time and ready to go with the correct build, consumables, and attitude when participating in guild events.
- Contribute – Be active and participate in guild events and the community in a positive mature way.
- Have Fun – We are all here to have fun, if you are not lets stop that and figure out how to change that.

The biggest problem that I have with GW2s “Raid Content” is that there is no way to control the players you experience it with. The overflow limitations always some how manage to leave people out because the vast majority of PvE players accross multiple servers migrate to a select few to do this content leaving piles of overflows and disjointed parties.
The reason why 40 mans in WoW worked was because you had control over the people that went in with you as a part of the team. Ever time I do the new world bosses who knows who will show up, they could be new, or veteran, skilled, or unskilled, and all of those variables coupled with the fracturing of organized groups across multiple overflows and main maps results in frustration, plain and simple.
If you want to create challenging content for organized groups as you have stated previously Anet you need to do so in a closed system in which the players feel like they have more control over the situation, even if it is smoke and mirrors. I know many people who just dont even want to bother because its not fun because they cant ever get on the same map as their friends.
There in lies the ROOT CAUSE of the problem, the system is designed in a way that players can not experience the content with other players that they want to do it with because the guesting system has inflated some servers so much during these events because so many players want to just coat tail their way through the achievements.
I think the boss fights themselves are well designed, fun, and engaging. The problem lies in the other systems that effect this kind of content: Guesting, Overflows, etc.
Our entire map just got DC’ed from SoS BL. The login servers are not responding, and if you get back in there is a TON of lag. Tell the imprisoned WoW gnomes to run faster in their little wheels please!
One thing I would certainly like to see is more guild involvement in WvW. One of the best features in DAoC for those of you who remember that game was that when a guild had a keep or a tower claimed they would be given notice if the tower guards were killed or if the structure was under siege.
Currently many keeps, towers, and camps go unclaimed throughout WvW because there is little benefit other than guild buffs which don’t really last that long.
If there was more reward and benefit for guild to claim a keep or tower I think you would see more defensive play happen in WvW instead of the Karma train flip everything fests that typically happen.
Concept
Improving Guild participation and value in WvW.
Guilds who claim keeps receive advanced notice of guards being killed or if the keep is under siege to allow for quicker response time to defend instead of relying on the grey or orange sword icons to appear. Only guild members would receive this notification so they would have to communicate this to the Borderlands and EBG if they were not in WvW. Orange and Grey swords would still work as they do now, this new feature just gives added incentive for guilds to claim keeps.
Other ways to incentive guilds to claim. Incorporate upgrades or buffs into the guild progression system, or even things like merchants and repair stations that guilds have to unlock and that can only be used when they claim a keep or a tower.
I’ll work on this idea more and make it it’s own thread but my lunch break is rapidly coming to a close, so that is all for now.

I just purchased one of each of the new Permanent Finishers from the gem store. I only received the first one I purchased via the in game mail system, the Whump the Giant Finisher and not the other 3.
I have not received:
Permanent Cow Finisher
Permanent Spectre Finisher
Permanent Thornroot Finisher
These are not showing on my account wide finisher pane either, and also are not in my inventory. My mail is cleaned out too so its not full.
Thanks for your support!
Anet already said they have the intention to add this kind of PvP to the game.

OUCH! Come on!? Seriously? Such a huge grab to monetize.
Can we have it permanently!?
I love the blatant play on MOBA games that this Halloween PvP Event brings to the table. I think with a few tweaks this could stay in the game as a fun filled map. I’d love to see more things like Jade Quarry and this in GW2. Awesome design, and I look forward to seeing more like this. Big thumbs up!
Anyone else love this map? Thoughts, how would you like to see a MOBA style arena implemented into GW2?
I beat it. See my thread Clock Tower is NOT Fun for why I still think they should make some minor changes to it to make it more user friendly and fun without losing the difficulty or challenge.
If you don’t have fun doing a game, always failing, and you really hate it, wouldn’t you quit? seriosly?
I know 2 people that have already, personally. Sad, but true.
I would love to see Arena Net’s analytics on this event. I’m sure they track how many attempts per player and how many successful tries and failures that player has had. I would be curious to see what the data says. In my opinion, if its less than 70% success, it’s broke. Makes me wonder. Fun really is subjective and how can an MMO cater to all members of their audience?

AMAZING lol
(edited by DemonNinja.1602)
Let be known after about 6 total hours working on getting this, I did it. Do I think its fun? No. It was the essence of grinding form my view point. The same thing over and over and over. I stand by my suggestions to make this more fun:
1. Make this a solo instance or like the story line instances.
2. Slow down the green ooze by about 10% not much but just enough.
3. Get ride of the points where platforms spawn in.
I completed this and I still firmly believe that this should be more accessible as it is a holiday event with limited time and people should enjoy it and not be constantly spamming /cry or saying “This is frustrating.” Frustration ? fun.
There’s a fine line between ‘challenge’ and ‘needless frustration’.
First off, I love the concept of this and I do like chatting up with the other players while waiting to try again. However! It’s a tad too hard for many people, myself included. After attempting it off and on yesterday, I still haven’t finished it. That there people blaming the larger character models for their problems is disheartening (though if the complainer is an Asura, I snap back that they need to stop tripping me).
Some background: My main is a charr, which is already a disadvanage as a some JPs are not charr friendly (hello Troll’s End…and any other JP that is in confined quarters). Despite that, I have completed most of the perminent PvE map JPs (one of the new ones and Dark Reverie I have yet to beat: the latter I have a special hate for but won’t get into here). I also have a minor completionist streak, and for limited time events I feel I have to get everything done (I even went into the PvP maps, and I hate PvP).
Now I don’t have camera issues on this particular JP, but all the other player models during the puzzle itself is distracting. Most of the time I fail shortly after the 2nd ‘start’ (who the heck thought that was a good idea in a TIMED puzzle?), like most people do. That part seems to be the determining factor of if you ultimately fail or not…as if you don’t get through it fast enough, you are kittened even if you do reach the top. That’s what happened to me: the ONE time I made it to the top (so far), I couldn’t proceed as the gas/acid/whatever had already consumed the platform I needed to jump down too.
That all said, here are my thoughts on ‘improving’ the chances of completion:
A: reduce the number of people jumping with you, if not make it a solo instance
B: Get rid of the ‘second start’ part. Have that part already up.
C: slow down the gas/acid/whatever just a tad (like 1%), to allow for ‘some’ mistakes.
D: or instead of C, have the gas/acid/whatever stop just below the second chest (the one you have to jump down too when you get to the top).
Final thought. If this was going to be in the world perminently, I wouldn’t bother making such suggestions. However, this is a limited time events and in my STRONG opinion, limit time events should be fully completable by MOST people with a little bit of time and effort. This JP requires more time and effort then I feel is necessary for a limited time event.
Well said. I agree!
Excellent post I agree 100%. The developers need to respond to this ASAP considering the event ends in nearly 4 days. Unless they plan on extending it, but wow such a huge let down.
Please adjust the event to allow for ALL players to participate rather than those who just like to zerg things and or don’t care about deaths.
I agree. This event was very poorly designed. They could have made the event much more accessible to their whole player base across the board. The fact that have made no statement about the public’s outcry is saddening too from developers who preach that they are all about their players that this is “your game”.
I want a million dollars. How about MegaMillions gives me half of the numbers and the power ball so that I have a higher chance to win.
YEAH!
This was constructive how?
I thank that is a fantastic idea! +1
Here’s the deal, this puzzle would be fine if it was just you in the instance. Except you have to do it with tons of others. As a result they character models get in the way of you seeing where you have to go and make it harder than it has to be. It would be challenging enough without that. After all watching a video the acid rise is not forgiving at all with delay.
I agree. The best change they could make would be to make this a solo instance. Would help a ton and still preserve the challenge and difficulty. I did well when there where no Norn or Charr but when they where in the group I just couldnt see anything. That does not equal fun.
Get over it.
And it doesn’t “force” you to take x hours, you TOOK x hours because you suck at jump puzzles or something. There’s no shame in sucking, but there’s a problem with bringing the whine to the forums about how it should be made easier for people who can’t do it.
Your response was rude. Sure its meant to be hard, but there are somthings that could do to improve. Not everything is perfect. I think ANet would be well off to make this a solo instance, Im sure that one change would see the success rates nearly double, and it would still maintain its challenge.
Try and keep your posts constructive and on topic and not personal. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but being a forum bully or saying someone sucks is just out of line.
“To the creator of this threadh…. I am sorry you cannot invest the hour it takes to do a jumping puzzle. I’m sorry you have entitlement issues… and I am sorry that you feel everything in life should be given to you….”
I never said that. I made suggestions to tweak the event. Maybe you should have read my full post. FYI I’ve worked on the event for about 4 hours now. Also, its not about me but tons of people who PHYSICALLY can not complete this event. I enjoy a challenge as much as the next person but you must draw the line at some point. GW was never a hard core game, expect maybe PvP and that was about skill and understanding not reflexes.
Refer to my orginal post to see the few changes I suggest that would make it more accessible without losing the challenge. Instead of just nerd raging at the fact that someone does’nt like something in your beloved game.
Im not wanting to play demon souls online. GW is targeted at teens and up, and the content should reflect that. If you are looking for something hardcore might I suggest you look into Darkfall, it is a hardcore fantasy MMO.
NO DEVELOPER has stated that the event does not count towards the Mad King title… the thread linked had no official response.
It disheartens me to see so many people personally attack me when my post was a constructive critique, if you like, great say so, if you don’t say so and make some changes as to why. But to attack each other is just shallow. Lets keep the discussion constructive.
I disagree. There are several people who can not complete it due to things like arthritis, and poor reflexes. They can’t complete the Halloween event because of it and its a shame.
I agree. Making this a personal instance is probably one of the best, and most easy things they could do to make this more fun.
“How will they lose players over this OPTIONAL puzzle that will only be here for FOUR more days.”
They already have, and not to mention its not OPTIONAL for those who love achievements. No where as a developer stated it is not part of the Halloween title achievement.
Im a huge proponent for usability and designers making games accessible. I hear your pain, I hope ANet does. Such a huge disappointment.
The jumping puzzle is a joke right?
Listen to your audience. IT IS NOT FUN. What part of that do you not understand? You will lose players over this design, and your unwillingness to change it. Here’s your chance to prove you are better than the rest Arena Net.
Also, do you guys have a usability department? Do you know the stats on disabled gamers? Especially in MMOs… Another reason why making it this difficult was a bad choice. I have a few friends, who because it is timed and because of their disability they simply can NOT complete this. I just want to bonk all the producers who green lit this feature, so disappointing. Special events should be light hearted, fun, and reasonable to complete for the entire population, not a select few who are master platformers.
Anyone who has poor reflexes, arthritis, joint pain, or any kind of injury with their hand might as well give up on this.
Here’s a couple things you could do make it better, and more usable for EVERYONE.
1. Make it a solo instance so players can see and not have to deal with 15 other Norn and Charr models.
2. Slow down the ooze doesn’t need to be a ton but just may 15-20%. It will still be challenging but give some buffer to those who need it.
3. Remove the pause points where the platforms spawn.
Let’s make this game awesome and fun for everyone, not just the elite gaming crowd that have spent thousands of hours playing platformers or those with super human hand eye coordination. Shouldn’t the holiday events be light hearted and enjoyed by all?
PS – Have you guys read reddit, oh man you have some not happy people out there. As a long time fan, please please fix this.

Yea, I’m an ele as well and I must admit the more I play the more I feel like sPvP is very unbalanced. I thought they would have done better…
So I just started playing around this past week with sPvP and I’ve noticed one thing that is loud and clear. THEIF / MESMER = win…. everyone is playing these two classes… is sPvP really that unbalanced or is just a flavor of the month kind of thing. Kinda makes me sad… Discuss/school me as I am a newb in the lands of sPvP.
