Thanks for all the comments. I know there’s nothing I’m going to say that will make you feel better, but I’ll share some final thoughts for the night.
I will work to make you happy, and I’ll do it by making you happy with what we ship, not with what we promise to ship.

So MO, how does your foot taste?
Here’s a piece of advice, don’t make promises you can’t keep.
Well at least he didn’t take your jedi away. And if you were on starsider you should get that
No I actually work for the guy that did though, ironically!
Seriously though, this level of professionalism being demonstrated in this forum post alone by the Game Director is just appalling.

So MO, how does your foot taste?
Here’s a piece of advice, don’t make promises you can’t keep.
Sorry MO, but you are just proving that the developers and company will continue to lie to the community.
You promised 12 new legendary weapons with HoT… we have 5+2 to come.
You promised legendary backpacks for each game type – PvP, PvE, and WvW. We have 1 of those delivered AFTER shipping the product.
You shipped a half baked story.
You shipped a bad WvW update that didnt take into consideration the core game play issues with the new BLs that hundreds of players gave you books worth of negative feedback on during the beta tests and after launch.
In all honesty HoT was a huge let down, and you have just proven that you will continue to not keep promises and even deliver on things you advertised as features for a product people paid money for… Its disgusting and unprofessional.
Sorry Tyler, but low level changes and bug fixes don’t excuse shipping product that the larger community delivered tons of negative feedback on. It was clear from the public tests that the updates to WvW were not well received and not fun for a good portion of the community. I’m sure this was not your call and at the end of the day there were probably lots of meetings surrounding this topic, but I found your post offensive as the core issues players have were no where even closely addressed in the patches to the new Boarderlands.
It would have been better to keep it in a beta state than shipping it and basically killing off the WvW community because the game state of WvW went from mediocre to terrible.
I hope this goes down as a lesson learned about not shipping product just to ship product in the most under developed and neglected division of your product road map. I would have rather saw it continue to be tested and iterated on in public tests to get it right, or just scrapped with the outward statement of “We tried new innovative things (as per our mission statement) and it didn’t work.” Admission of this failure would have been infinitely better than shipping bad product.
I sincerely hope this is not the entirety of the patch, PvP is in a terrible state. Mesmers are way over powered in bunker roles, Revs are just over powered, and Thieves and Warriors are left in the dust as they are so under tuned no one wants to play them.
BTW Anet, have you seen this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhYGyHhTRYk&feature=youtu.be
Pretty much sums up the terrible state you have left PvP in… If these things dont get before the end of Jan, say goodbye to your PvP community.
We are still looking for active and dedicated WvW players!
I will be submitting customer service tickets for the restoration of my pips, since this is a confirmed bug, these should be returned to me.
People play stronghold? Not really. ESL doesnt even support it. Stronghold was a waste of development. Bunker Chrono needs to be fixed ASAP it is killing PvP, it makes it not fun. I just got out of a match where the first 5 min of the game was no caps no deaths because of double bunker mes on both teams. This just is not fun. Period.
Ya communication has really taken a nose dive on these forums. Shame.
We are an active tight knit community that is working towards exceptional performance in both structured PvP, GvG, and WvW. We have an established core of some fantastic players and experienced leadership that is willing to teach and grow members. We are a Jade Quarry based guild and are looking to expand our ranks.
Mission Statement: [RISE] is a guild of players who play Guild Wars 2. [RISE]’s goal is to become a close knit community of like minded individuals who strive to succeed and be the best in all aspects of WvW, GvG, and PvP.
Guild Tenants (How to BE NO EGO)
- Be Humble. Understand you are a (small) part of the world. Service and patience should be top priorities.
- Be Teachable. Focus on what you can learn, rather than showing what you know. Much of what you know began with the work of someone else.
- Listen More. Make every effort to truly understand what others are saying (beyond just words). Allow a gap of silence before responding. Ask questions (and listen, again).
- Appreciate People. Enjoy others’ contributions. Don’t squelch ideas or defend territory. Encourage more.
- Relax. Let go of the need to be right or win every time.
Guild Structure
I. Guild Leader– The head of the council. This individual holds veto power over the council and guides and directs the guild to achieve its goals, grow, and succeed.
II. High Officials – 3 Officers comprise the council. Each responsible for an aspect of the guild but collectively share all responsibilities. They are a team and work together to lead the guild with the Guild Master.
III. Core – Guild Core are members who have proven themselves to be dedicated members of [RISE]. They actively participate in game, team speak, and the website. These members have shown excellence in the game and strive to better themselves and the [RISE] Community.
IV. Recruit – New members in [RISE] are placed in the Recruit rank. These members stay at this rank during their 2 week evaluation period. Members may be returned to this rank for under-performance, misbehavior, or inactivity.
Guild Member Expectations
- BE NO EGO (See guild tenants above.)
- Be Knowledgeable – Don’t expect people to hold your hand through the game. Do research, understand your class and role, what gear is best, what builds are good. It is your responsibility to understand your character and the game. Don’t make us google for you.
- Be Prepared – Be on time and ready to go with the correct build, consumables, and attitude when participating in guild events.
- Contribute – Be active and participate in guild events and the community in a positive mature way.
- Have Fun – We are all here to have fun, if you are not lets stop that and figure out how to change that.
- Zero Drama – We have no tolerance for drama. Period.
- Be a Team Player – Run the guild builds, be willing to work with everyone, and do what is expected of you.

I too am super irritated it doesnt work in WvW. It was the whole reason why I ground it up.
RIP
Update,
This spam is happening over and over on the borderlands and in EoTM.
For about the past hour on Crystal Desert EBG Dull Egotistical Raiding Party has been spam claiming both Golanta Clearing and Pangloss Rise.
Either this is a bug or someone is abusing the system.
Also, that message needs to be made so it can be turned off and made moveable. Serious UX fail..
That is a great start! Thank you for the update.
Could you kindly walk over to the WvW team and tell them to get off their kitten butts and post an update on their plans to fix WvW since the game mode and community are hemorrhaging players and going the way of old Ascalon!?
We’ve been telling them to take WvW seriously since launch, they refuse to do it. They did when they had some market competition with ESO, but since that game tanked and most of the players returned, they seem to have stopped caring once again. Though, when they did care we got EoTM so…. there’s that.
I think the thing that saddens me the most is the continued silence on the part of the devs as to the terrible state that WvW is in, the aren’t even acknowledging our feedback.
Just saying. These new maps are just not fun for the PvP aspect of WvW. Too many PvE gimmicks on these new maps makes them not fun. Also I miss garrison fights.
So depressed.
YES! ONE MASSIVE YES!
WvW has been dead since the development team made it the lowest priority since launch. It was a huge selling point for the game that is no so kittenized it is unplayable. It is such a shame.
I too come from a similar background as yours. WvW was my passion, and the new maps have just ruined it.
The massive population in EBG as compared to the new maps (full of nothing but PvE) just goes to show how unpopular the new maps are.
ANet has really left WvW in the dust… again… This is so utterly disappointing and sad that I cannot even begin to express it with out using a mountain of expletives.
Turning the graphics down does seem to help some but the crashes still happen. Dev response on reddit was laughable. Nothing more than a ’Yep we know… its been around for 3 years… we test on 32bit XP…" (What the KITTEN!?)
Deplorable…
Ya the lack of communication about a game breaking issue that is happening to a good amount of player is rather disheartening… This needs to be seriously address ASAP. Crunch time boys and girls.
Many people are experiencing this same issue, see this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Constant-Crashes-after-HoT-Update/page/2#post5704210
It is a big issue. The developers finally responded on reddit with pretty much a “Yep we know” response but no real ETA or insight into how long we have to wade this out…
I pretty much consistently crash during every meta event I participate in. I’ve stopped doing them which has left me rather sour since that was the thing I looked forward to the most in HoT.
RE: The developer’s response on Reddit…
I appreciate the openness of your response…
First thing: Why the KITTEN is your test team ONLY testing on XP 32 bit when you admit that 94% of your player base runs on a 64-bit OS? This seems like a massive professional QA fail. I’ve worked in the game and software industry for over 5 years now and reading this response made me so disgusted at how poorly this game is obviously being tested. Not to mention the fact that XP is no longer even supported or gets any kind of updates… the list goes on…
The problem was not nearly as rampant as it is now in HoT so clearly something major broke and it needs to be addressed as soon as possible. Tell your Producers to divert resources from Living World and other content development streams to fix this game breaking critical issue.
The game is unplayable. I literally almost want my money back at this point too because it is so bombastically bad that the game is not fun, because it crashes every hour and half or so, and is therefore a waste of money.
Every time I crash I send an error report. I run 64-Bit Windows 10 with 12 Gig of Ram so OOM errors should not EVER be an issue since GW2 and Team Speak 3 are literally the only 2 applications I have running aside from your standard Windows processes etc.
This is a serious issue. I appreciate your candidness and frankness about the issue, but it needs to be fixed ASAP and if that means delaying the release of raids for a week, or move resources from Living Story, because we wont even be able to play that new content with the game crashing all the darn time, then do so. I for one would love to actually play the content that’s been out since HoT launched but I cant because every time I do a meta event my game crashes.
To quote Colin “We’ve had an incredibly smooth launch with very few major game issues, despite the huge surge of players back into Guild Wars 2 to play all of the new content and features of the expansion! This will go down as the smoothest launch we’ve had in the history of the Guild Wars® franchise.”
(Source: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/heads-up-iteration-incoming/)
I CALL SHENANIGANS- Fix it, please!
So about that “smoothest launch in the history of ArenaNet…” ya…………….
I hate the new maps they are nothing but PvE… WvW as we knew it is dead. I’m so disappointed.
I agree. The new maps are so over designed it blows my mind. They are super gimmicky. The fact that all the BLs were dead tonight except for a massive blob on SBI BL was really sad.
Getting from one place to another on the map is pointless unless you are teleporting… really? The mega laser is just ridiculous. It is one giant PvE map with some occasional PvP, which is really sad. My favorite game mode is ruined.
The amount of PvE aspects to the new map is so bad. The community has cried out since launch to make wvw about the pvp and objectives not about gimmicky PvE events that take no skill and just blobs to do.
The lag is worse than ever.
I too am left feeling so dismayed over WvW that I dont even want to play the game mode anymore. Id pay tons of money just have the old BLs back. Or even the orb system (fixed)… but this, this is just kittening bad.
Tonight my guild, from Crystal Desert, went to Eternal Battlegrounds and the lag and skill lag were so insane we couldn’t event play. Is anyone else experiencing really bad lag after this reset? It has been worse that it has ever been.
We then went to Crystal Desert Boardland – which was dead because the majority of the WvW population hates the new maps. From there we went to SBI BL – which was just one massive blob, that again created so much lag we couldnt play.
WvW is in a really bad state. I hope the developers really start paying attention to this forum and the feedback they are getting. No response at all is really disheartening.
Also, the critical error crashes… please fix, thanks.
It blows my mind that the developers have not seriously looked into this and Colin has just made a snide comment that is working on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3qu9us/can_we_get_a_reserved_spot_on_a_map_for/
THIS IS A SERIOUS GAME BRAKING BUG EFFECTING TONS OF PEOPLE IN YOUR GAME. GO SIT IN A DRAGONS STAND MAP AND READ CHAT FOR 10 MIN AND YOU WILL UNDERSTAND HOW WIDE SPREAD THIS ISSUE REALLY IS.
THE GAME IS BROKE. FIX IT NOW!
I did a clean install of everything and I am still having this issue. My game was running smooth and fine before. Now every time I do a meta event in HoT the game crashes to desktop. Yo, can we kittening get a developer response for kittens sake!
My biggest issue currently are the critical error crashes on meta events. The map should hold your spot for a given period of time after a crash before allowing another player to fill it. With the number of kittening crashes happening because the game is so kittening poorly optimized this would be the least you could kittening do. KITTENING FIX YOUR KITTENING GAME ARENANET!
I love kittens.
Yes im pretty kittening mad about this issue too. It always happens during Meta events for me ALWAYS. I’ve just stopped doing them. So frustrating.
I am also getting a lot of critical error crashes specifically during meta events. I’ve been sending the ANet reports that the client triggers upon the crash. It is constantly ALWAYS during meta events, listed in order of frequency of crashes:
Tarir
Tangled Depths
Dragon Stand
Verdant Brink
Additionally, if your doing this in a group and the group leader dies it returns them to the retry mote which makes it not possible to finish and complete….wow… just wow…
The boss fight is so bad. I can’t imagine how it got out of QA…. so frustrating that they let this poor quality work go live.
Also, you can’t exit the instance when you are on the reset node platform… really?
Dear ANet,
Your final boss fight is riddled with bugs. The updrafts don’t work most of the time during the big AOE attack. Half the time when you use the reset node the platform doesn’t reset. If you use the reset node he continues to use abilities from the later half of the fight if you get lucky enough to get that far. This is just majorly disappointing. PLEASE FIX THIS ASAP!
I would be happy to take a developer into the instance to show them these bugs so they can better understand how to reproduce.
Love,
Your Frustrated Community
Any word on what the status of the Tempest will be going into HoT? Would love to see some final thoughts on the community feedback from the developers after this last beta weekend. If there was 1 thing you could change about the tempest, and onlyt one thing, what would it be?
I appreciate the openness about the feedback you are getting on this event. It speaks bounds to the continued strives to be more communicative from the development team and the community team. So props to that!
My problems with the event:
1. It promotes leeching, and not actually doing the events. The currency rewards are tiered in a way that in order to get the maximum you need to have 20+ stacks on you, and in order to accomplish this you literally just have to run from event to event tagging them to get credit and moving on to the next one. You don’t actually get to play the event like in the previous events such as Scarlet.
2. No loot table on the monsters. The ONLY reward you get for 30 min of you game time is a few tokens for items that already exist within the game. It just isn’t worth it. I could farm gold faster in other parts of the game and purchase the items on the reward vendor (save the BLTP items) much more quickly by not doing the event.
3. No experience. With so many new players joining the game – I think this was the largest and must fundamental flaw of this event’s design. These players are working hard to get caught up in level and content to be ready for the release of the expansion – and their very first event doesn’t even give them experience. How much of a massive let down would that be.
4. Its grindy. No treadmills in this game – unless you want something cool.
5. No new loot. OK, I like the fact that we have another opportunity to acquire things from the past. But through in a couple of new things – a tonic – soup it up. This was just viewed as laziness in my eyes.
The risk/reward just isn’t present in the event. It promotes leeching and tagging rather than actually playing the game, what a concept. Lastly its lack of rewards and experience make it almost pointless for new players to participate in.
Maybe you can remove the [Beta] tag from it too while you are at it, it is literally been out for over 3 years now…
Well this only took about a year and half to fix… good job…?
Well… this is overwhelmingly disappointing…
Though the changes listed are good ones, they don’t even come close to fixing some of the fundamentally flawed issues with the Tempest:
1. Overloading attuments is not worth it; the 5 second warm up and the channel are too much for what you get (even with the above mentioned buffs).
2. Rebound is probably the worst elite skill in GW2 currently. Need I say more?
I sincerely hope that you guys come through with some more substance on the next round. I understand the time constraints but if you are being resource blocked, maybe resources should be assigned better, or new ones added. Sounds like a Production mistake. I sincerely hope the now illuminated constraints on design resources does not adversely effect the end product just to meet the 2015 deadline.
Tempest Feedback
Overall Impressions
The tempest is underwhelming to say the least which is greatly disappointing for me. I neither provides a significant advantage over other Elementalist specializations in the area of support or damage, rendering for the most part – useless as currently implemented.
Warhorn
The warhorn skills for the most part are alright.
Fire: Heat Sync is OK the ability to give some might and share boons is interesting, but in the thick of it I felt like I had a useless buff skill taking up a slot on my bar. Wildfire is excellent – though I wish it did some periodic damage on top of just burning.
Water: The utility here is fantastic – Healing with a knockback is pure defensiveness, and Water globe is great for backing up your allies from a distance.
Air: Cyclone and Lightning orb are probably the two most interesting to ue in both PvP and PvE. They have good interaction and need thoughtful use to be effective.
Earth: Sand Squall suffers from the same fate that Heat Sync does, though it is interesting in concept in practice I didn’t find it that useful. Again, it felt like another buff skill hogging a slot on my bar. Dust storm was useful in PvP and smaller PvE encounters.
Utilities
Overall the shouts have a lot of potential. The biggest problem is the fact that cantrips are SO useful for Elementalists and are the heart of their survival in PvP and WvW – Though the shouts were useful in PvE situations, I felt that I could only take maybe one at most in WvW and PvP while sacrificing some of my overall defensiveness. For the most part too I felt like the cool downs on the shouts are just a little too long, In a 30 second PvP or WvW fight for what I am getting I would like to be able to use them twice at the least, so maybe a 15 second cool down would be better.
“Feel the Burn!” – Good overall offensive shout. Would like to see it maybe apply 2 or 3 stacks of burning, or do some more initial damage on cast – right now Cleansing Fire is better than this for days.
“Shock and Aftershock” – The most well tuned of the shouts in my opinion in this build and the one I used the most. The utility this skill has is great. It also does the most damage right now which is disappointing because one would that would be the fire shout.
“Eye of the Storm” – This to me was the most undertuned of all the new shouts. The super speed is ok, and the stun break nice – but the skill lacks and utility level the others do. I would love to see this almost be a mini static field and issue a 1 second stun on use in addition to its current set up.
“Flash-Freeze” – I think if the changes I mention above are made this skill is useful and good. Its a middle of the road damage and utility skill that does a little bit of everything, which I like.
Elite Skill: “Rebound”: WTF!?
I’m sorry, but are you serious? Elementalist Elites are the most useless and undertuned Elite skills in the game, and you give us this crap? It has a channel, that makes it useless because I really only ever want to use it on my healing skills so now it essentially makes my healing skill take just as long because I have to channel rebound before I heal (Which could result in my death) just to get a negligible cool down reduction… crap, total crap. I would honestly prefer this in the slot of Sand Squall on Warhorn earth 4. It might actually see play there….
Overloading Attunements:
This was the thing I was the most excited for, and the most disappointed with. The fundamental problem for me was the initial cool down. I always felt like I had to rotate attunements before the initial cool down and channel leaving me feeling like these are more for small scale and PvP. Additionally – while traited for the extra defensiveness I felt as though I was still too squishy to be riding the front line using these to help our team out in WvW. The cost of an initial cool down AND channel is just too much right now. Maybe a 3 second initial CD would be better. I was ok with the longer cool down after overload, that seemed fine to me. I also felt like the overload skills were a little underwhelming for the cost and really need to be a game changer for the current cost, which they are not.
Trait Line
I agree with most of the feedback presented here on the Traits. I think more experimentation and play testing is needed for em to really give feedback on this element of the tempest at this time.
I put together a fix for a pretty nasty performance issue on our game servers. This should make it into our next release so I’d be curious to see if it makes a noticeable improvement. The bug looks like it was introduced around when this thread popped up.
I also got a couple client improvements that should help reduce framerate hitching with lower-mid range video cards and/or higher shader settings. Coming next release, too.

Transparency and communication to the WvW community! I LOVE IT! Give me more please!!!
Feedback – Its bad. Turn this $h!+ off. The end.
I think this would have been fun as a short event like a weekend event or relative scale. A whole week of this is just poor and lazy design. It also proves that Anet doesnt listen to the WvW community – at all!
I mostly only play WvW.
Thanks for the support everyone. Judging by the entire front page of the forums just destroying this event and the developers I sincerely hope that for once in Anet’s life they actually listen to the WvW community…
Snow balls chance in Balthazar’s realm though…
Dear Anet,
So this would have been a fun little weekend event – but a whole week of this is not fun; it is VERY annoying, and a complete waste of time in my opinion. I’m all for fun and games and mixing it up just for the giggles, but a week of this going to be painful.
Everyone in my WvW focused guilds are either taking the week off or very frustrated at this event and note playing in WvW.
Just some feedback.
Love,
The WvW Community
