its +5 condition damage, on top of the already higher base stats. and thats with a FINE infusion. Imagine what an ascended infusion would do? PER ITEM.
“I hope you are all as excited about these new items as I am!” – Linsey Murdock
Who actually thinks these items are ‘exciting’. Its just a stat upgrade and a color change. Theres nothing exciting about that. At least the thought of infusions MIGHT have been exciting, like the 6th rune effects on some runes, but nope, just another stat increase.
Maybe our definitions of ‘exciting’ are different. This is clearly not exciting imo.
I heard some rumors about 1000+ fractals to make an item, and the fractal drop is 5 per run?
Guild Wars 2 isn’t a game…it’s a 9-to-5 job. O_O
Obviously. How else will those CEOs at NCSoft, Anet and Nexon (yes, Nexon – 15%+ shares in NCSoft since June!) retain their 7-figure incomes?
Seriously, the feedback here falls on deaf ears, we should write to nexon and ncsoft instead. At least they are happy to turn the screws.
15-30 minutes per run at easier level
They should be able to make more difficult content without mandating more powerful gear. If the monsters gain 100 damage and your new gear lets you ignore 100 more damage per hit, you haven’t really moved anywhere. And that’s the treadmill metaphor is apt.
Just thought I’d point that out, since a lot of people seem to have bought into the “need new gear to do harder content” myth.
So based off your logic we should be able to do level 80 content in level 1 gear?
You fought level 34 creatures in GW1 on level 20. They added new PVE skills to compensate. Too much work for them though.
Whatever man, I’m going to just chill and watch the train wreck happening. It’s obvious they’re ignoring everything we’re saying.
I guess I got my 60 bucks worth.
Yeah I got my 60 bucks worth, too. $140 cuz I got the collectors for my son, too. No big deal, the $$.
I think they weren’t ignoring everything and actually responding. Cuz these forums had thread after thread, complaint after complaint from people who geared up and then felt like there was nothing left to do.
It’s all over the game sites. GW2 has no end game. Plays great, but no end game. Gets boring after 80, nothing do to.
Players chanted that like a mantra. So ok, now there’s something to do.
Or not if you don’t want to.
Either decide that you want it or decide you don’t want it. The game will continue to play the same with your exotic set.
This update could’ve came with everything except the Ascended kitten and it’d have worked fine. Great even. Give us a leaderboard to see who can get the furthest on FotM. Heck, give us agony without the resist gear. IT WOULD’VE ALL WORKED.
“This new rarity type falls between Exotic and Legendary on the spectrum of rarity and has slightly higher stats than Exotics”
Why does it seem like people only read the “Has slightly higher stats than Exotics” part?
If this is still considered as a gear treadmill, why isn’t the idea of legendaries seen as a gear treadmill? Or are people just assuming that Anet are going to keep on creating new tiers?
Arenanet said in a german article today that they won’t say ‘ascended is the last tier to be added’ in case of back lash like this. So yes, there will be more. Theres a topic that shows the stat increase currently is close to 15%, and thats just with fine infusions. Theres still masterwork, rare, exotic, and ascended infusions to go.
Not a slight increase at all.
I’d encourage everyone to change their forum signatures to something that disapproves of Arenanet’s blatant lying for starters. Lets go towards boycotting the game from there.
I’m greatly disjointed in how most of you forum gamers are behaving. Yeah sure the new armor rank has its ups and downs but why are ya’ll acting like it’s the end of the world? So what the stats are better, but not enough to make exotic obsolete. Hell I don’t even have full exotic yet, yet I have no problems completing any and all PvE content because (gasp) gear isn’t that important in this game. It helps, but this isn’t a heavily gear based game, so really as long as your build is good, and your wep is good enough, it’s all good..
Because they sold the game on the basis there would not be vertical gear progression nor a load of gear grind and that people could play it their own way (now people who stay will be forced to do dungeons to play WvW), which is why many of us bought it, within 3 months they have totally gone back on their word.
Also people don’t just PvE, we do WvW, once they’ve added ascended to all the slots it will make a big difference vs exotics.
Lots of us are quitting over this and I doubt this change is going to help the game that much, because many of the people it appeals to also like things like raids, specfic roles, addons, etc.
1. Exotics are top gear now….are people forced to get a full set for WvW? No….they’re not.
2. Wait till the content comes out to make such claims as “once they’ve added ascended to all the slots it will make a big difference vs exotics”.
3. If you want to overreact and quit before at least waiting for the content to come out, go ahead, but honestly it’s a tad ridiculous if you ask me.
I hate to say it to you, but you really need to get full exotic before continuing this debate. I cut through people like butter in WvW with my full exotic gear. There’s a very, very noticeable difference. Especially when percentages get ramped up, like with Berserker gear.
Secondly, the best thing about this tier system is you know exactly how each tier increases in comparison to another. So if this is happening to the rings and trinkets now, it will be exactly the same for armor. Lets not be naive here, are they gonna have ascended gear with exotic stats? No.

If they keep adding more armor ranks (which I highly doubt they will, sounds more like the infusion thing will be the future) then go ahead and panic, but until then at least wait till you try out the new content to complain. Also about the infusion thing, to me it just sounds like a higher level rune/sigil, and considering that the highest level rune/sigil is 60 I don’t see a problem in this whatsoever.
That’s because you don’t have full exotic yet, its vastly different to full rare, which is vastly different to full masterwork. People angry at the stat changes is because Arenanet has just lied to our faces.
Why? If I had a Wii U I’d play good games on it instead.
You also have a definite chance of wasting a lot of hard earned money to get Nothing At All. Some of the crafting mats can also be gotten in the game world.
I agree with OP.
I feel sorry for those ppl that will get the game because of the trial run. The game is indeed, fun for the first week or so. Then when you become a devoted player Arenanet will take that all away from you.
Do you understand that infusion slots are actually replacing upgrade slots, so in ascended gear there will be no slots for runes. So, there will be infusions instead of runes. What stats they have? +5 to power/vitality/and so on. Even if you assume, that its the lest powerful infusion and that infusions will have +20 stats, its anyway even less than stats that runes give. I don’t see any reason here to act as a child and whine or cry out loud. From what we have seen so far, ascended gear won’t be much better than exotic in stats, so just relax.
For crying out loud, Ascended gear base stats > Exotic gear base stats + upgrade. Now the infusion is just icing on the cake.
When rare infusions come out you can expect +30 stats each.
In the highly competitive world of game design, you don’t get second chances. What reason do gamers have to sticking to one game? Social media has bridged any inconveniences of gamers gathering in the past, and we can migrate to another game with no difficulty now.
Thats essentially just it. After 3 months Arenanet has shown us nothing but failure upon failure. Halloween was OK but that hardly rules out all the other piles of dog litter.
Arenanet spat in our faces, there’s nothing wrong with returning the favor. Which of the core philosophies of the game they promoted can I hold them to now?
Looks like you fail to comprehend the message behind this post. At which point did ArenaNet start calling you names and stop being civil.
Be constructive with your criticism, ArenaNet has made some decisions which are upsetting people, but it’s no excuse to start throwing a tantrum like a spoiled child.
You don’t need to be a spoiled child to be offended by bait and switch, you just need to be an honest customer/client/consumer. We’ve seen it all today, constructive criticism is only met with PR spin stories.
Condition damage plays a big part in many classes/builds (including my bleed Thief) and was hoping the 25 bleed cap would be changed so i can join a group for dungeons …
All i seem to get is ‘’ Already have a condition damage build, so no need for you’’
Come now, this is Arenanet we are talking about. They have 2 people working on balance issues.
Arenanet spat in our faces, there’s nothing wrong with returning the favor. Which of the core philosophies of the game they promoted can I hold them to now?
Bye Guild Wars 2.
I’d like to say it was fun while it lasted, but in retrospect I can’t even attest to that. I find it funny that a few days ago I went back on Guild Wars 1 to hear people ridiculing the massive failure that is this sequel.
This patch sealed the deal real good.
I’m probably going to start playing WoW. If I want a game with vertical progression I might as well play the premiere one, not a kitten failiure of a game.
Feel free to use ->
-useOldFov
In your target for the game .exe and it’ll put it back to the old one.
Oh cool, so all that jolting issue won’t be looked at anymore. Take it or leave it he says.
Lol after all that response from Jon Peters about reanimator, did we see a change? Nope.
Its ok, was really hoping to see gluttony fixed. That trait is crucial in how we spec necromancers I think.
Soon this will replace iPhone autocorrect jokes:
“Fixed a bug that caused many piercing, boomerang, and bouncing projectiles (those that hit more than 1 target) to continually increase in damage the mokittengets they hit.”
You know, the real problem is they haven’t really fixed the relevance of karma for everyone. Its simply not useful for the average player who isn’t chasing a legendary.
Encouraging people to use Magic Find gear in dungeons is not good, Pickup Groups will be even harder now.
This is not good for the health of the game.
Look, answer me this. You don’t like MF gear right? So you won’t use it, right? Are you alone on this thought? No. Are there other people you can team up with who share your views? Yes. Are they always skilled players? No.
So what is the price of oranges on Wednesday?
LFG [Boss name here], must have 146% MF to continue.
Aren’t people who want to run with no MF’ers just as bad?
LFG [Boss name here], must not have MF gear. Behavior segregating people is bad no matter which way you look at it.
except wearing MF gear kittens your fighting capability, where as normal gear does not, be it more damage or less damage recieved.
MF does nothing to improve your fighting chances.
Skill mitigates many scenarios where vitality is needed tbh. I run dungeons with Berserker gear simply because it makes everything I do riskier, and I find the dungeons more fun because of it. While MF gear has less damage, the ‘fighting chances’ really don’t change much. If your team has skill, it’s just as easy.
There are plenty of people running non-MF gear who don’t contribute as much either simply because their builds aren’t optimized for a particular area of the dungeon.
yay… now people will start wearing MF into dungeons making them undoable…
If you can’t finish a dungeon with a team of MF gear players then I think you should question your skill first, before the gear.
So dungeons are completed by individuals?
I always thought it was a team effort – is that not why there are five people doing it?
Can I complete a dungeon with 5 people? Yes
Is it the most efficient? No
Further more mf is limited to power/prec gear, what about the condi speced classes. Secondly, mf gear has no defensive stats – it obviously favours classes which mitigate damage though complete avoidance e.g. thieves. However, its double edged as it significantly reduces power and damage so you need to melee to counter this. However many people will stick to ranged weapon to avoid being one shotted. This will increase battle length and result in more chance of wipes.
If people want to wear full mf they can but other’s shouldn;t have to suffer from them contributing less. I don;t care how good you are, there is no argument – the same play will contribute more if he wears gear without mf.
The case in matter, if you are NOT wearing MF gear you are doing it wrong. That is basically what Mr Hrouda is saying. By the same token, as mf gear is power/prec, we should be physical damage builds or again you are doing it wrong.
If you argue, well you don;t have to have 200% mf, I will counter by saying mf gives me better loot, I am doing dungeons for loot, why should I waste a gear slot anything without mf as I will be rewarded less.
You answered your own question. If a dungeon goer is going for the loot drop from bosses, why should he not be allowed to run MF gear? You want to clear it fast because you want the reward at the end, other people might want the rewards in between.
LFG [Boss name here], must have 146% MF to continue.

Ouch, this is what we waited so long for? Omnomberry Bars aren’t even going to boost the silver from these silly bags because it’s an opened bag, not a drop! Furthermore, since the “good rewards” (tokens, silver) are static across all dungeons, there’s no good reason to do other dungeons bar the easiest. That means that AC is still going to be the most profitable dungeon (barring lucky cores/lodes in CoE), and I’m still not going to diversify my dungeon experience any. What a shame.
But its your choice to not run dungeons other than AC. You ever thought maybe some people want to run dungeons for gear specific to that dungeon, or just for fun in general? Clearly if you’re running dungeons for coin, you could be doing Orr for coin faster.
An additional 1200 karma and 12 silver does not make dungeon rewards more enticing than Orr farming that nets more in a shorter amount of time. I don’t even think the extra tokens are worth mentioning.
And as others have mentioned, having to now bring magic find gear to have a chance of looting some of these new drops (are these described anywhere in more detail?) is not a great solution either. It encourages wearing suboptimal equipment. Why not just have these drop from chests?
Because they want it to be viable for people with MF gear. You don’t like running MF gear in dungeons, neither do I, but some other guy out there does. Lets not be selfish?
Since MF gear (at least so far) is limited to power/precision and, with Mad King’s set (which is no longer obtainable) power/condition damage, it completely exclude builds that are build around other stats, not to mention the runes that are huge contributor to overall magic find.
Wrong. Accessories, rings, and amulets give Power/Precision while armor pieces give Power/CondDmg
Yeah this is more of the concern for me, there’s really no variety in MF gear. My first set of armor was a full MF set but the build opportunities weren’t fun.
yay… now people will start wearing MF into dungeons making them undoable…
If you can’t finish a dungeon with a team of MF gear players then I think you should question your skill first, before the gear.
I run this path every day and not once has what you described occured.
omg this so much. I also hate how i can’t keep the armor not relevant to me collapsed
why go to kotaku when you know…you could have just done this on your own website
Kotaku gets more traffic, Arenanet gets to advertise it to people that don’t play the game. If they did it on their own website, it would only reach people that have already paid for the game.
So, why do this at all? Gotcha, its advertisement, plain and simple. Not an actual Q&A session to deal with player concerns.
Seriously guys they are adding ONE new tier to items! ONE! They have already said that they will not be adding more.
No they haven’t.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news/A-message-from-our-Studio-Design-Director-Chris-Whiteside “We will not be adding a new tier of gear every 3 months that we expect everyone to chase after and then get the next set and so on.” I rest my case…
I rest his case.
Lol sounds like you need to go back to school they said: “We will not be adding a new tier of gear every 3 months that we expect everyone to chase after and then get the next set and so on.” Which also means after 3 months there still wont be any new tiers…..
You need to start school sir. That spiel is just PR damage control plain and simple. If they were so adamant about not adding another tier in again, why not just say “we won’t add another tier ever”. Because they will, and at that time, everyone can point fingers at this and their behinds will be covered because they said “every 3 months”. Wake up and smell the coffee, you’ve been duped.
I’ll bet nothing of real substance will be addressed. It’s less than a day to the whole patch, it’s just a PR puff piece. There’s no way anything substantive will be discussed or revealed, at least not in time for anyone to do anything about it.
Holy kitten you took the words out of my mind (particularly ‘substance’ ‘PR puff piece’.
This is exactly it, it’ll be another stupid PR spin and it’ll end up like an advertisement for Lost Shores. Arenanet disgusts me.
1. likely
2. not likely
3. definitely not likely

I don’t understand why people are complaining so much. You can’t really call it “gear grind” because it’s not like it’s “kill kittentons of mobs until you get”, it’s “play a new dungeon that Anet has tried to make unique and fun to get gear that allows you to play the dungeon more and beat lesser geared scrubs in Wv3 afterwards”. And also, it’s not like the Ascended gear has a major stat increase.
First, everyone complains about not enough endgame, then when Anet adds more endgame, they complain.
Never complained….not once about end game. Spent all this time in Wv3….which is my end game. Not dungeons, they can go rot. But not now, have to run it to go back to peak performance in Wv3. It’s also not going to be cheap, will have to save up 900+gold not to mention skill points/karma just to get one legendary weapon….I need a min of 3 (two daggers + staff) for my current build. But whos to say they won’t nerf my build and force me to go to another stat set up?
Sigh.
This looks to be a major grind rivaling most F2P games I have played in the past. Of course just like F2P games: I can cut the time and effort needed by 3/4 by using RL money to buy gold/materials. Working as intended?
Really? The stat increase from Exotic to Ascended is only like 2 points. Anet isn’t forcing you to get it.
Its 5 points, per item, for a minor stat. which is likely to be about 9 points per item, on a major stat. 9×12 = 108. If that was power, a full ascended person has 3 permanent stacks of might on all the time compared to an exotic person
You can’t really get it at level 1 unless you have a personal banker golem, or for some reason you choose to run around without claiming the experience from the tutorial area.
The devil’s in the details my love.
I aint sure which of you wrote this as it gave me all three quotes but whoever did I say Bravo!
[/quote]
I said that, but I’m clearly not the first to say it either. Many others before me share this view.
Never-ending vertical progression (especially through gear) as a way to keep players engaged is a spectacularly terrible design paradigm, and it needs to die. Sorry OP, you don’t know what you’re talking about.
Having said that, if they can manage to make this a one-time thing and we don’t end up at level 100 doing 600,000 damage per hit with our Exalted Greatswords with +700 Power in the next 1-2 years, it won’t dissuade me from enjoying the game.
They said they would not be adding new tiers of armor after this from what I’ve read. They said they added it to take advantage of new mechanics for dungeons in Lost Shores and future content updates.
They said they won’t add a new tier every 3 months. But hey, 4 months is totes fine!
You’re reading to much into it. Fear makes people see the worst in a situation. Try not to be so negative.
Its not fear, you are not reading enough into it. This is how people do PR spins. You read it on the surface level and they assure you everything is fine and dandy. Then when the time comes and they need to make a complete 180 they have those PR statements to fall back on to cover their behinds. At which point you as the consumer can’t say kitten to because that’s just you misinterpreting.

If Arenanet wanted to make this game an E-Sport then it needs to immediately disconnect its PvP content from its PvE content. Start off by giving all skills separate PvP versions so that they know, if anything changed in PvE they don’t need to worry about its repercussions in PvP.
The mere fact it takes them this long to fix bugs and glitches relating to the skill system is a display of their lack of competence, which just hurts the company’s image in the long run.
Not so much even geared towards people wanting to watch it because it’s an “e-sport”… but even the common joy of watching people play a game they like,
Seven year old + WoW still holds 20-30k views going on 3-4 years now and its not an e-sport either. People just enjoy watching Battlegrounds or Arena or Raiding.
There’s a difference though. Part of WoW’s success is because it has reached a brand status. There are people out there who will buy Nike shoes, even if it is not as comfortable as a lesser known brand. At that point, quality plays a lesser role thanks to established presence. And that’s partly whats to count for WoW’s stream audience. Secondly, and this is not particular fault of either games, WoW is just easier to watch thanks to all the status and effects appearing on the screen in writing. It might dull the competitive scene by making it a lot easier than GW2, but in terms of watching, it is more accessible.
Has Guild Wars reached that brand status yet? Nope. Will it get there, probably not IMO.
(edited by Derk.3189)
I think its not too late to learn now that just because Arenanet says something, doesn’t mean they will:
A) Hold their promise to.
B) Deliver.
And lol, this game becoming an E-Sport? They haven’t the faintest clue on what makes good E-Sport. Between the stale metagame and superfluous visual effects they’ve disappointed both the competitive players AND the viewers.
I have a girlfriend I love.
If I said, “baby I love you and want to be with you”
And her response was “Yeah k bro, how about you be my slave for another few years then maybe.” Then I would be like ok kitten this kitten.
When does the game state he is her BF?
He barely has a place in the story after Treehern shows up.
He isn’t badly written.
He is an extremely well written chump.
Well I guess you can put it that way. I thought he was poorly written because real heroic men don’t act like that.
I thought they were together. But yeah, I agree with you. He is the worst written character of the 5 by far.
