True, and I was making that post because I was enjoying the balance we had in WvW until about a week and a half ago where it became lop sided, but it looks like kwbh will remain farming those badges until we get more people. Honestly, I am not against what you’re doing and I do think the ranking system is pretty ineffective.

My apologies if my previous post sounded rude btw. I think I, as well as some others have a bit of frustration building from how WvW can feel like a job at times, with the dedication it requires of us at this time to maintain scores and such. A job with little returns. :/

And yeah, I liked it a lot more when it was more balanced. It really is too bad that a few guilds or so transferred off of ET a while back. Ideally, we wouldn’t have a numbers advantage of either partner server, nor a timezone one if it were up to me. Many of us are frustrated with this pairing system. It feels like it rewards PvDoor zerging tactics too much. For Eredon’s Terrace or for Ferguson’s, there’s little benefit to fighting each other or Sorrow’s furnace head on in an epic war so to speak, from the points perspective. But epic battles are probably what most of us entered WvW expecting. We end up having to shift maps a lot when we have a good fight because 20 people will be capping our borderlands while we’re occupied in EB, etc.

To be fair though, I probably underestimated Eredon’s Terrace a bit as well. That reset push was pretty amazing on your part. Especially those members of KWBH and the mesmer portals bombs I witnessed. It may only be that Sorrow’s Furnace needs to rank up, rather than both of us to balance the tier, who knows. This past week has certainly given us all a lot to think about.

wow really? Because… I’m pretty sure we are evenly matched us and FC population wise right now if not you guys having a slight edge… you guys wanting easymode? If anything the small xfers should check both FC or ET

Honestly half the people I’ve seen in wvw have gone to T1 servers over this paid xfer thing :/

Edit: a night crew for either server wold be nice :p wouldn’t be an issue but SF seems to have one and us not having one is what really tilts the balance of the match

I wouldn’t rush to say Eredon’s Terrace WvWvW population is on Ferguson’s level. ATM let’s be honest the only reason ET’s score is even close is from playing vulture on empty lands while Ferg and SF go at eachother’s throats. Which while we have certainly done, we’ve spent the vast majority of our time this week taking SF head-on. If Ferg were to shift focus on ET more and play “the points game” by striking empty lands for the whole week, the score would probably be drastically lopsided between SF, FC and Eredon’s Terrace being much further behind than it is now. Ie. 350k-220k-80k or something like that. No, we don’t want easy mode. But it should not be a surprise to you that we do to move up into a tier that has 2 severs with populations more around ours and enjoy WvW as it was intended to be balanced. Ferguson’s Crossing as it stands should already be able to hold its own in tier 7 IMO, and with all the transfers it got in tier 8 Sorrow’s Furnace should be easily able to handle tier 7 also, and possibly even push into tier 6 now.

Facts should be faced, neither of these severs belong in tier 8 anymore. But Eredon’s Terrace on the other hand is a perfect fit there, and will remain so unless it gets more transfers. Granted, more transfers to ET could help reduce SF’s advantage also. But asking for transfers to ET and making posts of such should be the duty of actual members of that server, no?

Thanks everyone for the support! Bumping this with a cool update.

TTA, Krak and WZ, and Yarr also I think are entering an alliance. Unfortunately Krak was absent for the meeting, but I’m sure they echo the same sentiment as all of us especially since they and TTA have worked hand in hand often in the past as I recall. We’re all willing to put the past behind us, and do what we need to improve ourselves, but especially all the more Ferguson’s Crossing as a server.

Expect to see much more joint operations between the guilds, training for the new WvW’rs and various new and useful movements coming to be as a result of all this.

Kudos to TTA for putting all of that into motion.

There’s a lot of work to be done, but we expect to do well. Yet another reason people should consider our server for a transfer.

I’m going to thread hijack and say come to ET, just cause

Hey, you have your own! https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/wuvwuv/Hire-your-WvW-Mercenaries-today

;)

But yeah, ET definitely is definitely a great server to show some transfer love as well. I endorse them 100% in that. I’ll even bump that thread.

Edit: Oh wait, looking closer that’s not an Eredon thread at all! I found it through searching “Eredon” in forum tools and thought I had the real deal.

As a regular WvW player on SF, I support this 100%.

I hope FC gets some great transfers so T8 can stay a relatively even matchup. One-sided roflstomps are no fun, and the recent transfers to SF threaten to make that a reality.

Thanks for that sentiment. SF is quickly becoming to us, what Devona’s Rest was to Kaineng during the height of their rivalry. Fighing against you guys is always a blast and a privelage, so I hope to see it continue for some time.

And for one final note, our server may be the one server that will likely never break if it hits a wall, be it population, time zone OR tactics. Unlike other servers, we’ve been constantly matched up against servers that have had us beaten on population, timezone coverage and when WM moved to Kaineng, we even lost the tactics department completely. And for a brief history lesson for those of you in higher tiers who think Kaineng went up due to transfers, it actually didn’t. It went up farther than it should have, that’s for sure. But long before WM and the various Asian guilds that hopped to it in its last 2 weeks against us, before its massive transfer population growth it was already mid tier 6- low tier 5 quality. Its population boomed after DR moved out from people invigorated from the hope of not being outnumbered and quickly itself out numbered us enough to easily hold 500-ish ppt BEFORE WM and other unfamiliar faces ever appeared there. Simply put thanks to the Glicko2 system, Ferguson’s Crossing for the past 2 and a half months or so has always been fighting opponent servers that are at the tier 6-5 level here in tier 8. Yet we never gave up, even in the last week against Kaineng in its post-WM era, we tried our hardest even if only to hold a tower or keep for a couple minutes here and there. And since general forum consensus seems to be that Kaineng will ascend to tier 3 and possibly tier 2 relatively quickly, the fact that we yielded anything at all against Kaineng in that final brutal week, and that we did managed to hold a few things briefly almost every day is a testament to the resistance and determination this server has always had.

5) Solid WvW foundation. As a server, I’m not gonna say with 100% certainty we don’t have our share of a few fair weather players here and there. However, time has proven that Ferguson’s Crossing has a certain base of players that never seem to vanish from the WvW scene, no matter the odds. WZ was pretty much formed even during the massive onslaught we endured from Kaineng. During this period it quickly jumped from 30 people to over 300 people with moments of having 40+ active in WvW. 85% of those were relatively new players who had fun in WvW despite the frustrations Kain’s 650+ ppt leads and overnight Taiwanese upgrade destroyer strikes. What this means, is that even DURING the mega-zerg assaults we, as a server had a positive WvW growth trend. We gained the most new WvW players during the worst. I wonder how many servers are in higher tiers where the same can be said? As a server, we endured the onslaught of both Devona’s Rest AND Kaineng with relative dignity and minimal forum poop slinging.

6) Positive server WvW growth. Having room to grow is one thing, but what meaning is there in it if you don’t grow? Despite having lost at least one major guild (NP.. miss you guys. Well aside from those that stayed and/or revisited temporarily.) during the entry of the Kaineng era, I’m pretty sure our WvW population is higher than before. It’s not growing from transfers alone. It’s had pretty much only the opposite from transfers thus far; a few people moving off here and there. And yet, we grow. What can I say? There seems to be some magical power at work that when people by GW2 for the first time, and begin to look through that server list.. that the name “Ferguson’s Crossing” seems to radiate some kind of mysterious attractive light.

7) Our server is not perfect. As I mentioned earlier, we’ve had our share of drama (The growing pains that accompany growth and a strong desire to be competent in WvW as a server, IMO. Which makes it a good sign in that sense.), our share wall jump exploiters(Never seen this myself but if it happens on so many servers, can’t see why not on ours.) and perhaps even hackers that we might not even know of. (Strongly encourage anyone from any server to report such people with screenshots.) And yes, we even do have a small share of people who /sit and /laugh on their 2 opponents when they win with 10+ people. I think half the appeal of our server is that it is filled with imperfection, which causes people to strive for more. Many here strive for more nobility in our actions (people that /bow or /salute when they kill their foes), more competency (Meilin has long worked at getting us together with the Vanguard project. I give a shoutout for all his crazy efforts. This fellow is a true Ferguson player, through and through. We also have many who have taken the effort to do the homework of finding better siege placements, and efficient methods of fighting off superior numbered enemies.), more cooperation between large guilds (Shoutout for the TTA officer that hopped into WZ teamspeak and spoke to us there. Rest assured, you have been heard [and by the majority of our commanding officers!], and I hope that we of WZ can echo the same sentiment now also.) The bottom line here is that despite our imperfections, we have a goal. We strive to improve. We strive for victory even in ridiculous odds, and we appreciate it when it comes. Although we hate playing the “Points game”, we do it when we have to. We know what it takes to stay afloat, and what it takes to win. I think as a whole, we acknowledge our strengths, but also our weaknesses.

Conclusion: That all said we go into combat expecting nothing but harsh resistance, and yet meet the challenge head on. We’re full of battle nuts who just can’t seem to get enough, even though WvW tends to cost many of us the precious few gold we can muster. And now, in the eyes of constantly facing the superior numbers of SF coupled with the generally inconvenient timings of ET trying to keep themselves on the map at our expense while we are occupied with SF, we still maintain our presence and position with all of our might and hold firmly onto the number 2 spot of this bracket at this time. (Btw not bashing ET for this, good tactics are good tactics. Ferguson did the same thing when DR and Kaineng were at each other’s throats. :P). Ferguson WvW players are tough, unyielding. Whether we get mauled by mega zergs or beaten by superior tactics we always come back for more. We love the thrill of the battle in the e-sport that GW2 WvW is rapidly becoming.

And one more time; why join Ferguson’s crossing? Simply said in the light of everything made known already; because it is an investment a WvW future.

Well, with pretty much every server except us having such a thread and free transfers coming to a close very soon.. what better timing could there be?

Now, why transfer to Ferguson’s crossing?

1) For the challenge. We are not a “Green” server. However, we’re not a “Red” server either. We offer something significant to work with, while not offering complete domination. Nobody enjoys being constantly crushed by 50x your numbers, but does anybody really enjoy zerg PvDooring a single tower with 3-4 people in it and never having the risk of Stonemist having multiple wall breaches, or keeps ever flipped and epic struggles? We’ve always met challenging foes, typically are outnumbered significantly by at least one of our server partners at all times. This is accentuating the need for further growth, not just in population but in strategy as well. We’d love for any players, be they single or a guild or two to come be a part of that growth.

2) Room for growth. Ferguson’s Crossing has recently benefited from a Christmas population boom (hence the formation of my guild, formed to harness the dormant potential of the new players entering WvW during that period and beyond), but unfortunately when it comes to transfers we haven’t seen much in the way at all outside one or two guilds moving out. We have a unique balance of many up and coming guilds and players and a bunch of old Ferguson’s vets. Our score has been hurt badly from weeks of being paired with servers with mega populations. (The once mighty Devona’s Rest, and the now mighty Kain. And potentially now SF if its growth continues unmatched.) The good news in this is that it will give some time for new members of our community to adjust; to get to know the players, to get to know the strong and the weak points and to build relationships and teamwork that will enable competence in a higher tier when we eventually do move up. (Note that we don’t really want to pull a Kaineng. We simply want to move up to a more balanced tier where we meet equal if not identical resistance between our two partners so that we might enjoy WvW the way it was intended, and whatever partner servers we end up with alongside us.)

3) Well established WvW guilds. Guilds like Envy, TTA, Krak, Yarr, WZ and a few others I’m sure I’ve missed. My guild WZ, alongside I believe TTA and Krak also are pretty much full time WvW’rs. Sure, we’ve had our disagreements. I’m not gonna pretty up this post to sound like the perfect jelly donut bait for win-fattened fair weather transfers. Most of our WvW guilds have spent a lot more time in the past bickering than we have working together. While this is regrettable, it is an inevitable result when people start to become proud of their guilds and their accomplishments, or their potential. The arguing between guilds IS starting to settle down however. TTA and WZ are starting to make the first steps towards mending our damaged relationships. While it is a work in progress for both of us at best. However, server pride is strong on Ferguson’s, and stronger than all our guild pride I believe. It is likely an inevitability with time that we all will put aside our differences and work together in unison. I’ll be the first to admit as an officer of WZ, we’ve been defensive and many of us have said things we should not of. Nevertheless I am hopeful that one day all the arguments will be a completely behind our Ferguson guilds.

4) Large normal player base in WvW: Not a member of some super guild, or not interested in joining one? No problem! We have many players joining in on our commander’s operations in WvW. You will see many players from many different guilds, and some with no guilds at all. Such people need not feel intimidated by the presence of powerful guilds. There’s always room for more. New to WvW and looking to get participating? Come aboard! Many of our commanders are more than willing to accept new WvW players into our fold. Its not our goal to alienate anyone. Even those who place rams beside walls. Although we have yelled at a few players at this, but sometimes a point needs to get across fast if you catch my drift.

It would be interesting if all the Eredon Terrace WvW’rs were to transfer over to Ferguson’s Crossing. (PEW PEW SUBLIMINAL MESSAGES) There’s a bromance there just waiting to happen!

Tough fights from both SF and ET this week. SF’s numbers indeed seem to have steadily increased yet again, although I’m not sure what the source is. (More transfers or previously inactive characters massing into WvW or whatever. It seems to be a slow increase so I don’t think its full guild transfers so much as individual transfers or new single players coming in from their PvE side of things.) With SF shifting 95-100% of its focus on us almost everyday (aside from a few bouts with us and ET and ET and SF), its quickly becoming a war between the two servers. (Interestingly much like the war of Devona vs. Kaineng when the two were trapped in tier 8 way back) Unfortunately our prime time meets massive resistance from SF at least equal numbers if not still greater, and SF’s prime time on the other hand can simply roll over our tiny night crew with little resistance and continue to do so. (Well not sure if its really their highest population period, but its certainly what’s hurting us the most; the period between 12:00AM – 4:00 AM or so on my time)

01-18 Devona's Rest / Kaineng / Ehmry Bay

Detharos.3157

I remember making a post long a while back stating how I hoped to see Devona’s Rest(Who was in their prime at the time, before they lost to transfers) move up far in tiers, and my thoughts were the same with Kaineng as well after its rapid growth moment.. as a testament to what we of Ferguson’s have fought head on with commonly as little as a mere 10 people in one map and somehow managed to retain our sanity.

I admit, there were a lot of times of frustration especially in the last week we were with Kaineng. I did get a little annoyed on the forums from the corpse laughing/dancing, but I do regret losing composure over that. With that said, I’m glad to see that both our former tier 8 mates have done well. Although again, it is regrettable that so many left DR before they got to have at least a final rematch with Kaineng. But that’s how the cookie crumbles with server transfers.

For those few of you who may remember/miss the tier 8 spirit and want to know how we’re doing; ironically, the current tier 8 situation seems very similar to the long past match up of DR-Kain-Ferg with Sorrow’s being in place of the then mighty DR, Ferguson being in place of Kain when it went toe to toe with DR near constantly (SF even averted 95+% of its focus to us this past week) and Eredon’s Terrace being that wild card, terrorist like server in place of the old Ferguson, playing opportunist and always finding a way to maintain a strong presence on the map while the other two go at one another’s throat.

Q: Is a better ranking system not possible?

in WvW

Posted by: Detharos.3157

Detharos.3157

Honestly, I appreciate the free transfers finally ending but the damage is already done. The reality of why the problem of such imbalances occurred to begin with is obvious: having a system like the Glicko2 or whatever it is called, while simultaneously having free transfers available was a contradiction. This current system, while capable of “fixing itself” takes FAR TOO LONG to do so and simply is not built to deal with rapid/massive population fluctuations. In fact I’ll say it is literally 0% capable of matching servers where such things happen in a reasonable fashion. Everyone playing this game is human. Two different servers in different tiers with approximately the same population taking 8 weeks of being mega zerged by super-servers before they finally get thrust into the same tier might sound to Anet like things being fixed, but for the human players who endured the 8 weeks, this system is simply too slow.

And let’s be honest, paid transfers.. heck even if you eliminated transfers entirely would not fix this problem. For those proud tier 1 folks, what happens when the battles between their servers continue at a near even ratio for so long (months) that eventually a large number of players of one or two of the servers end up quitting the game? (be it due to boredom with the WvW situation and its feel of endless cycles of the same thing or just tired of GW2 in general as will inevitably come with time) What is going to happen to those that do remain active in WvW in those full servers when its population starts to become inactive? Especially one with a large points advantage built up? Eventually servers are once again gonna be set into another XYZ week period of being vastly outnumbered, one way or another. As long as this tier system remains. Even if its a minority, and it works out for most cases.. should WvW become so unbalanced for the minority for the sake of the majority?

Wouldn’t it be easier for example to have a double tiered system that first pairs up various servers by detected WvW population averages, and THEN a second tier system (perhaps keeping the Glicko2 for this) to rank those servers within those tiers?

Ie:

Population Tier 1: 350-400 serverwide WvW participants
A Server Ranked first in tier by points
X Server Ranked Second in tier by points.
Y Server Ranked third in tier by points
Z Server Ranked fourth in tier by points
S Server Ranked fifth in tier by points
D Server Ranked sixth in tier by points

Population Tier 2: 300-350 serverwide WvW participants

Q Server Ranked first in tier by points
E Server Ranked second in tier by points
R Server Ranked third in tier by points
T Server Ranked fourth in tier by points
V Server Ranked fifth in tier by points
B Server Ranked sixth in tier by points

And so on. That way population would at least be taken into account first, and THEN whether one server is “better”, “more skilled on average”, “possesses better strategies” could be seen in its population rankings. And perhaps with monthly qualification round point resets in re-determining placements to accommodate for population fluctuations.

I’m no genius, I’m sure there are problems as well with what I’m suggesting. But surely this system can’t be all there is forever. And it shouldn’t take months or years to figure out that servers being pit against other servers with anywhere from 30% more-300% more WvW combatants for even two weeks, let alone 8-12 weeks or more is.. unacceptable. And as a member of Ferguson’s crossing, I can tell you that is what we’ve had to deal with up until recently and yet may have to go through once again with Sorrow’s Furnace begging for more transfers in two separate threads and getting them daily.

“Just wait for the system to fix itself and provide balanced matchups” simply doesn’t fly well anymore when it takes weeks-months to do so, and a third or more of the population of WvW combatants on your server have fond memories of constant 30 vs. 50-100+ for 8+ 24/7 non-stop weeks of brutal and pointless WvW.

Come on A.net, surely you can do better than this? I really hope my server won’t won’t have to play the waiting game for another few weeks when the transfer system is changed just to be put into a population matchup that they rightfully should of been in 3 months ago.

Petition: L.Bow+S.Bow to pierce by default

in Ranger

Posted by: Detharos.3157

Detharos.3157

Greetings all. After reading concerns about the threats of pierce in dungeons, and the desire to have it toggled, I have another suggestion/idea of how it could be managed. A functional item could be made to fit in the unavailable offhand weapon slot when the bow is equipped: arrow heads. There could be different arrows equipped alongside the bow to determine its firing properties. (Ie. Piercing arrow head, Standard(default) arrow head, Ricochet arrow head (bounce to 3 targets like the axe), or other such arrow head equipment to change the properties of how the longbow arrows behave when they hit their mark.

These could be purchasable items available to all rangers over time (In all likelihood you’d start with a default arrow head and have to obtain others through karma purchase or some other method.)

This would probably be the easiest way to default pierce and make room for new traits on our bows whilst still enabling pierce to be “turned on or off” simultaneously.

Now, while arrow heads sound like a generic thing, I’d prefer them to be ranger specific if implemented though. Or at least for the piercing arrow heads to be limited to rangers only. The GW2 statement of what a ranger is made it clear that in addition to the presence of the pet, rangers in this game are supposed to excel at use of bow and arrow.. its pretty disheartening if a thief can use a bow more skillfully/with greater ingenuity than a ranger.

Continued…

What’s my point in all the above? My apologies for ranting but well, there simply is no reason or no logic to justify be it real world OR game mechanics that a ranger should have to access a trait to get such a basic and necessary function as piercing on ranged attacks, while so many other classes seem to enjoy the benefits of piercing attacks on certain ranged weaponry(Engineer rifle, mesmer great sword shots I think also have that ability)

So basically, please A.net hear this call and make our bows pierce by default. And replace that marksman trait with something better. And if you’re willing, as a secondary request, being able to shoot your arrows to their maximum distance in in a direct line in front of you WITHOUT NEEDING A TARGET would probably help in lining up our shots and giving us greater use/value in the often laggy, chaotic environment of world vs. world where zerg/population is the strongest trait of a high tiered server. Cause as it stands, people liking your class just because you can use guard to send your pets up walls, something which will likely be labelled unintended game mechanics and removed anyways… yeah give us something to work with here. I think this is the most reasonable/non volatile/game breaking change that could be applied to rangers atm. It wouldn’t be a buff, it wouldn’t be a nerf, it would be a FIX.

Now, my hope is that all of you rangers who read this request for a basic and sensible mechanic being added to our bows would agree and sign this petition/show your support.

Hey everyone. For a long time now as WvW frequenter, I’ve been rolling on a full berserker built 30 Skirmishing/30 Marksman/10 Survival(prolly soon to change to 10 nature) ranger. Despite criticisms I’m sure that would be out there for the berserker gear set up, I’ve found my own ways to make the build work relatively well while running Longbow and greatsword. Recently I was thinking about taking some out of marksman, and build things differently to sacrifice a little damage for a little more survivability. The only real problem I have with this is I feel like I’m absolutely forced to put on the piercing trait which is really limiting my chances at build diversity with this gear set up. I’ve put a lot of time and money into my current exotic gear, and while I’m open to spending more time farming other gear sets to try new builds/different weapon combos in active WvW.. really I still can see no justification for any ranger being forced to roll 20 points of marksman just to do such a basic functionality. In terms of game mechanics, not only does this limit us a lot in build diversity but you really DO HAVE TO for the most part invest in piercing to avoid problems like obstructed arrow shots. I can only speak for the longbow, since its always been my style to roll with a max range weapon and a close range weapon… but really, the longbow simply DOES NOT WORK WITHOUT PIERCE. Without it, simply rolling with a melee build where melee weapons that can sweep an entire area of attack thus hitting multiple foes within the weapon range, and this without even needing to target a foe.. seems much more appealing. (An unfortunate trait that ranged weapons lack, meaning the only way to hit a stealthed foe is to swap to a melee weapon and whack the air anyways which already limits bows in comparison. Adding further to its weaknesses, especially in the stealth and culling rich environment of WvW where picking the right target to get the most out of your piercing arrows can sometimes be a little more frustrating than expected.)

And on that matter, wouldn’t it make more sense in game mechanics to be able to blindly shoot your bow and have the arrows go the full distance, just as you can blindly swipe with a sword? Ie. shooting a 1200 range shot with no target selected in the general direction you are facing. A linear, 1200 range AoE if you will. As it stands bows are near useless in comparison to melee weapons against stealthed foes due to the necessity for a target to be selected, outside the AoE skills.)

And to add to my bitter feelings in this, I made an engineer recently, and I couldn’t help but notice that their rifle shots pierce by default.

I mean.. really? Now here’s where I hang on the “real world style dynamics” argument of things.(Assuming there is one.) Correct me if I’m wrong, but from a “real world logic” stand point (the only possible argument I could perceive against piercing arrows vs. gun shots); That 1600-1700s Flintlock or whatever-style pellet shooting age gun weaponry similar to what appears to be the standard of guns here in GW2 did not have much penetrating/piercing power. I don’t think you could shoot guns from the 1600s and expect the projectile to pierce multiple people were they lined up. Contrast that to the longbow/arrow of the English and French wars, where in the ever going arms race of English weaponry vs. French armor, the English had bows firing arrows capable of penetrating some pretty crazy dense, thick French armor. Bow and arrows of that age were designed for ARMOR PENETRATING/PIERCING power in the context of the war against heavily armored opponents at least. Which may not be the same as piercing through whole bodies, yet still… why can’t our bows in GW2 be designed as funcitonal for war as the bows of the real world were? Especially when it makes so much more sense in game mechanics?

Do you enjoy it, members of Kaineng? Do you enjoy slamming anything Ferguson manages to grab within 4 minutes with 30-50 people every time? Calling in an additional 20+ -30+ the few times we get everyone listening and manning enough siege to down your zergs and simply pushing our positions with double the numbers of when you first failed until it inevitably falls?

And seriously, what was with the 10+ Kainings spamming /laugh while you camped us outside citadel? If you’re wondering why we didn’t leave afterwards btw, I ask you what’s the point? Anything we do, anything we get its inevitably the same result. No matter of skilled players, no matter of gear level differences, no matter of out-smarting your server with siege placement. Your numbers have made it all inevitable. The result is the same, day in and day out. No keep, no tower can even make it to a fully upgraded state EVER anymore. If something comes close, it’ll be timezone wiped by Asians.

And then you laugh at us. You dance on our corpses. Sure 10 people its just a few people of the zerg collective, but you know what those of you who will go “They don’t speak for our server, we try to discourage them?” That means you were present in that mega-zerg to begin with. You play as much a role in enabling them as they do typing these emotes by assisting their efforts to demoralize us at every turn.

And why bother with this post? Well guess what your efforts to demoralize and frustrate us out of resisting you at all are working. If only you knew how many people are getting tired of this treatment you’d all probably be worried for the state of your monthly kills. Too bad you’re going to rank out before then.

For all the back and forth drama banter that went between you folks and Devona’s Rest, it’s funny. Not only does your server seem “as bad” as them, lately you seem worse than them. I’m usually against posts like these. I tried to stay as positive as I could these past months, but this is just too much. Too many months of downward spirals. Let me tell you before you mention it. Those days you went through fighting Devona’s Rest, when you had 200+ points on the board? They don’t compare at all. They are as different as night and day. Our server and yours the rough situations we’ve been through are as far apart as the sun is from the earth. Those of you thinking of consoling or excusing this situation, why don’t you try transferring to our server for a short while and see what its like to face against your own kind for a while? Then perhaps you could pretend to understand what we’re going through.

But in your server’s defense; the one’s committing the greatest crime in all this are A.net ironically. If only they had the gall to roll some characters on Eredon or Ferguson and step outside the spawn point. To participate in WvW on our servers for more than 2 hours, to try passionately their hardest to make something work against your numbers, and understand why their systems of balancing, tiers, and free server transfers suck.

But as for me, what’s needed is clear. When WvW starts to feel even harder than your job, its time to quit, at least for a while.

Hey guys. I was the dredge outfit wearing ranger leading the groups in the early morning that capped AB, Garrison and various towers. I put it out there that I received countless reports of “AB wall jumpers” even narrowed down to detail of guild tag and what not when we were defending AB. However rather sorting through a bunch of heresay, posts of “lol u must 0f didznt mezmer sweep!” or filing a bunch of reports with screenshots and posting rants and rage, I am just going to plead with everyone here, regardless of server.

All three of our servers current size balances aside have all at one point or many past and yet continuing; known and braved facing some pretty ridiculous odds. We all know the pain and hardship that is undertaken facing servers that outnumber you on fronts from 2x-8x your population in some battles. I’d like to think that having been through such hardships has crafted a certain spirit of sportsmanship on all sides.

With this said without accusing anyone or pointing fingers: “unintended tricks”; jumping from cliffs to bypass Garrison gates, using teleport skills to go through certain walls/water gates, etc. These exploits, if you will, offer nothing good to the battle. The pleasant feeling from a hard fought victory being tainted with the use of cheating, people will have to waste time camping certain areas to prevent wall climbers, stuff like that is not helping make WvW more fun for anyone. Most major guilds including my own do not condone such actions and are prepared to warn/kick guild members for trying abusing such things. I’m asking that all guilds that do not yet have a statement on these matters take a similar stance, regardless of server.

I’m also asking that those of you who may have participated in battles where such tactics were used, whether they were unintentionally discovered or directly endorsed would encourage the individuals on your server that you know to use such tricks to stop. Let’s all do ourselves a favor and save ourselves useless drama by discouraging/continuing to discourage such activities. Keep it clean, keep it fun. The gates and walls are there to be destroyed, not jumped past. Kudos to you if you can do it in a way that is both legit and sneaky.

Nice try Kain on the Garrison attack 30 minutes ago. And great work to the 10-ish defenders who held the Inner Keep. I do so love these “Helm’s Deep” style battles.

I was the Dredge gas-mask ranger on top of the front wall sending my Murrelow to your catas and raining arrows upon you guys.

P.S. As a glass cannon ranger I can say I am so happy I managed to survive the 4-5 times I got pulled off that wall xD.

Congratulations to DR on its advancement and likely continued future advancement. As a Ferg player I admit there were some real frustrating times dealing with you folks but yet in the end without you here things just don’t quite feel the same, for better or worse. I’m sure DR will go through its trials, as will all servers in all tiers. I’d like to think they have what it takes to go far though and I root for them to continue advancing in the hopes that both FC and Kain might be vindicated in the eyes of those witnessing its advancement; for having held ground as well as they did and for as long as they did against a server of such force.

Regarding drama; as having played various MMOs with similar PvP functions I can calmly say it is not only an inevitability but that it is intensified beyond normal levels in a PvP structure such as WvWvW. From as a single player dying to 5 people ganks to conquering 5 people ganks, to losing highly upgraded keeps and towers that you practically went through hell to keep to a mere 3-10 person unnoticed time-zone attack to doing the very same thing to other server’s keeps and towers. From carelessly letting yourself think its a “Single Server vs Single Server” and investing heavily as such only for the true WvWvW picture to come to light when your forces end up on the unfavorable or favorable side of a war with multiple fronts. To sometimes successful “bro-fist” filled guild alliances or even cross-server alliances to backstabbing and betrayals flipping your entire BLs or EB color when you least expect it.

These situations and realities that all who participate seriously in WvWvW are likely to experience at some point (at least some if not all) are like a cooking pot for intense emotions. As server pride rises when an up and coming under dog accomplishes the unexpected, or a former tyrant that fell into a trash can when many guilds transferred servers yet suddenly breaks out of its chains to rise again… and many other situations you could all name. The emotions that result are bound to light the occasional forum thread aflame with some harsh words and feelings.

Yet I’d like to think that throughout all the highs and lows witnessed within whatever tiers, we all come to respect some names, be they people, guilds servers or what not on this field of war that is WvWvW. And the occasional good and constructive forum posts that result surely outweigh a hundred posts of trolling or raw unrestrained negative emotions given text form. So that I say kudos to all who have done such on all sides.

These server wars are like a furnace, and we the players are the metal. We are constantly being forged through various situations into something different. I can say that despite feeling I have a long way to go, as a ranger I improved leaps and bounds battling against DR in various locations for the past month however long its been since I got into WvWvW. For that I’m grateful and as far as I’m concerned DR/Kain/Ferg is a chapter in my WvWvW book that I will always remember.

Wouldn’t it be amazing if one day, somehow in a higher tier with an even further improved/numbered player base these three once again met in combat and lit a tier aflame?

I think I share the sentiment of the earlier poster who mentioned having turned out to have survived all along would cheapen the feelings of tragedy generated by the loss of Tybalt.. to a degree anyways. At the same time, I wouldn’t mind at all if this did turn out to be the case . Tybalt was just that loveable as a character and companion in the order of Whispers.

I’d like to take the time to say though that my greatest stress with Tybalt’s death is that it felt more like a write-off than a genuine sacrifice. That is to say rather than making the sacrifice of his life in order to save the others it felt like the sole purpose of the tragedy was to allow for Trahearne to steal his place. And I’ll get this out there also, I am probably one of those who somewhere deep down despise Trahearne. I do so because it feels like his existence is why Tybalt died. Perhaps that’s just playing the blame game, but Tybalt was so built-up as a character and your right-hand go-to guy.. he was my character’s partner. (Nohomo lol.) I’m probably repeating myself here but I just can’t shake the feeling that Tybalt simply had to die to allow Trahearne to take his place as the partner of the player character. Tybalt, who was so-built up and backed-up.. the loyal and trustworthy companion so full of character who I’m sure most will admit they came to adore. Offed on a whim for the sake of introducing the bland, showy glory-stealing Trahearne. That feeling that seems to develop is why Trahearne has become a kind of offensive existence as a character for me.

I may not be fair in this, but if you are still reading and of like-mind allow me to further my case with this “unfair trade” of characters. Outside maybe one-three brief lines Tybalt is practically never mentioned again after this point. The character doesn’t have a moment to go into solitude and reflect on the loss or mourn in any sense, Trahearne really gives the feel that Tybalt by a certain point in the story quests simply never existed. There is no minor, let alone grandiose monument or dedication to Tybalt and his sacrifice in any sense. It just feels like Tybalt was simply not done any justice afterward. At least with that cool bomber-man Asura who’s name evades me at the moment, you get to see some aftermath when he dies when his wife has a real hard time with it. But do you ever get to meet Tybalt’s father or mother, or anyone of any relation to him to depart some words like: “Tybalt thought he was coward, but he was true warrior in heart. He died a hero’s death, fighting off countless enemies to buy time for us, and he succeeded gloriously.” to pay some form of homage to him? No. Tybalt’s existence was simply erased. And that’s what sucks.

So to that end, I say sure I wouldn’t mind one bit if Tybalt came back, assuming the alternative was his continuing to be in a state of written-off non-existence. Or in the very least as an alternative assuming new story-tied content ever came.. some kind of tribute or homage, or later resulting event to spring to life in the story as a result of Tybalt’s sacrifice would be nice. As of now, getting Trahearne in place of Tybalt feels like waking up in the morning and finding out that somebody stole your PS3 but replaced it with a WII. It’s not right!

Until then, R.I.P. Tybalt.

Hi, I’m a person of little interest from Ferg who got into wvw just about 3 weeks back.. so it feels strange as such a novice to be saying this, but reading this thread gave me a lot to think about. Even despite being so new, I can see how quickly the simple fun of PvP started to get a bit tainted with server pride, pent up frustration from losing highly upgraded keeps/towers that I put a lot of time into and other things. So with that said, I would like to apologize for any DR/Kain players who’s corpses I might of laughed over, jumped on or mockingly cried over.

Thinking about things like this I can now recall a fight in DR BL in which I tried to solo a camp in the southern reaches and ended up fighting three DR players and managed to take out the two and died on the last. And that last DR.. actually bowed! That was a pretty kitten cool/humble thing to do so in light of that I hope I can find it in myself to start doing likewise from now on. Hats off to that person for setting such a great example of respectful pvp.

Also wanna say that despite the “pride overload” people you might encounter in a negative context here on the forums, I’ve seen and heard from some pretty cool people across all three servers in this grouping so far. It’s easy to group people as a one-minded server entity but its clear that there are good and bad apples everywhere, so it would be good to keep that in mind.

Let me also say thanks to all players who I’ve fought that didn’t /laugh or /sit teabag my corpse.. it goes a long way to making PvP more enjoyable. And to continue the positivity I have to say that as a ranger, I’ve learned a heck of a lot about drawing out the true function of the ranger here in wvw.. things I would of never figured out in mere PvE/dungeons. I can testify that I’ve never found myself using the “Guard” pet-command skill a crazy amount in this past week of pvp.

Now on a final note, that was some great fights in the Ferguson and DR BLs last night. Kudos to all who were involved on both sides, especially with that epic last stand at Shadaran Hills in Ferg BL. And finally let me say: LOL@ that random DR thief who was walking around almost butt naked in blue shorts.
