The rune IS PART of the build. With a different rune, it would be a different build. better scores mean something. What are you even trying to say?

Everyone says Ele is weak, I’ve seen it for months now on the forums, and I never did well before this patch. I have been PvP’ing a lot the last week, and I must say, I’ve been running train, wrecking face, call it what you want; I get the better scores and win games.

I survive 1 v 2 and do medium (enough) damage.

The PvP reward feels very lackluster. Compared to WvW or dungeons, you don’t really get that much, even though PvP is a lot harder to do well. I would like to see better rank-up chests, or just an added amount of gold, based on rank points, when you finish a game.

Feedback on the Trait UI: please remove the pop-up message when you click on a trait slot while you don’t have points in the trait line yet (Spend points to open the … trait slot? -Yes -No). This message belongs in the old system, but it is quite annoying in the new, fluent trait system.

Feedback on the Gear UI:
When you open your hero panel now, you actuallt have nothing there, except for three options: going to Equipment, wardrobe or dyes. When you select one, you can go back by clicking in the top left corner. Please change this! Like this:
Have three icons in the top left for the three options, next to each other (square icons). When you open the hero panel, the equipment option is automatically selected, and you can swap between the three by clicking the icons.

The intermediate step of going back to a screen with nothing on it is annoying and unnecessary.

It depends on if they are armed or unarmed. Norn were known in Guild Wars 1 to slay entire warbands of Charr. However, if they are both unarmed, the Charr have their razor sharp claws, their horns and teeth to give them a big advantage. So;
-Armed: Norn.
-Unarmed: Charr.

Well done on the magnetic aura on signet of earth, and might on signet of fire is also a good idea.
One more explanation: Signet of air granting swiftness on swapping to Air is just not the best possible change. It is the exact same effect as that of Elemental Attunement (the Air part ofc). It is just not interesting, and when running (which is what signet of Air is for, particularly in WvW), the effect is the same (maybe a little less speed), only now you have to swap in and out of air all the time; a little more inconvenience, the same effect. Also, again, with fire’s embrace, you get swiftness when you activate signet of air. The passive could be many things, but swiftness on swapping to air already exists. You can only have infinite swiftness once. just keep the passive the same or change it to the old One With Air, giving more speed the longer you are in Air. (5% initially to 25%-30% after some time.

Well, YOU don’t like what there is to do in Guild Wars 2, but I think there is lots and lots of fun; PvP, WvW, Dungeons, Dailies running around in PvE, crafting, events. I switch it up all the time. I think it’s weird how you want to convince other people that they can’t have fun in this game, when the simple truth is that you’re the one not having fun. Try out different things and set yourself goals in GW2, or go play another game, but don’t try to deter others from playing GW2.

Starter zones can be very low populated right now, because most players are higher level. However, on the 15th of april, there will be a huge patch and all low level zones (later ALL zones) will be merged real-time, so there are always near to the maximum amount of players on the map. You should always see people then!

For now, you might wanna go to Queensdale, as others have said.

Suddenly got a better idea for Signet of Air; I think all alacrity traits should be at the 15 (soon to be 3)-point spot. The traits there can be added to the signets. Now, fire and earth aren’t really needed, as they were quite weak and not very noticable, or hard to hit. Water is in your new Signet of restoration. Air 15 (Electric Discharge) could be added to Signet of Air, and it could give ~2 seconds of swiftness on attunement swap instead of 25% movement speed.

Ok, so first of all, I mostly love your Ele ideas, BUT there are some problems with the Elementalist signets this way, mostly with aura’s;
Signet of Fire’s passive Precision increase and Signet of Earth’s Toughness increase stack with Protection and fury to give you a better effect when you already have those boons. Changing this is a problem, because of Fire’s Embrace (Fire Shield on Signet use). With that trait, you have almost permanent Fire shield uptime, and with Zephyr’s Boon and Elemental Shielding, you consequently also have permanent fury and protection uptime. This would make Fire’s Embrace useless (think about it).

I like the Signet of Restoration proposed changes.
I do not like the signet of Air passive change, it would be better if it was 2 seconds on attunement swap, and even better unchanged.
I also don’t like that you want every skill easily dodgeable (delays; NO).

I think these are (very nearly) all great ideas, and they it would be nice if they were in the game as soon as possible. There really is no reason to not put them in the game, except the time and resources it takes Arenanet.

I have a few improvements:

40. It only requires one extra press of the “F” key, and most people, at least me, are used to this.

120. Could be better: I would opt for being able to right click an “automatically cast at target location”-skill like Dragon’s Tooth to toggle it between that mode and ground targeted mode.

The people running around with “a lot of legendaries” are the exact same people that had legendaries before. Other players will not suddenly get legendaries… For the rest, yeah it’s hard for you, but it’s only a comparitive setback, because everyone else is now getting convenience for free that you hade to buy. You’re not actually set back at all.

I got my Exotic stats from WvW. By the time I was lv 80 I could already afford an entire set, without playing WvW too much (at least not more than 1/4 of my GW time). I think this will be the easiest option.

I then transmuted it with better skins.

I think they should change as little as possible. That being said, the changes I propose:
-When dropped, the conjured weapon should not disappear.
-Cast times should be 1/4 second or instant cast.
Being able to pick up the conjured weapon again would not directly mean the skills need to be nerfed, and it will allow you to use the conjures skills in between your weapon skills, allowing for more combo’s and more usefullnes of the conjure if you have to drop it in an emergency situation.

Gear is your own choice, just don’t get one-shotted my siege. I use PPT just because it’s what I have and I’m too poor to afford more armor sets…(ascended armour is soooo expensive)

I believe there are some builds on the top of the forum, too.
For roaming I’d suggest dagger dagger, with Air trait I and Arcana VIII you have permanent swiftness, and you have acouple of dashes for even more speed. Add in Fiery greatsword, and you map completion is done in notime.

New Ele Looking for A Build

I’m no expert, but here’s my advice: In WvW I always run a staff, for area denial and AoE damage (get ALL the loot bags :P).

I use 30 in fire to keep my fire fields lasting longer, for area denial. All the other traits are there to increase my damage, because I can normally stay far enough from the enemy to always stay alive.
Healing skill can also be ether renewal, but arcane brilliance gives more utility (blast air 5 for swiftness, fire fields for might and water fields for healing).
Signet of air increases your mobility and is the shortest-cooldown stunbreak, so i take that.
Arcane wave is there for the same reasons as arcane brilliance.
Your last utility slot can be:
-frost bow for more damage (skill No 4, then 3, 2, drop( or keep spamming 1 for healing))
-Glyph of storms ofers some great AoE damage and utility.
-any of the other skills are also fine as you see fit (for example signet of fire for even more damage on Meteor Shower)

Elite:
-fiery greatsword for incredible mobility
-tornado for combo with Meteor Shower.

Meteor Shower does not get the red circle. It was in the fake patchnotes.
Also, I can’t find anywhere devs saying that tornado+MS combo will not be possible after patch.

The FGS fix was much needed though.

Not sure where i heard about Tornado and MS, i know it was on the forums somewhere. Maybe not from a dev. Dunno it was awhile ago. Should really be fixed anyway.

Interesting, i am sure i read a Dev comment in a post about it. Maybe i misread it.

Yeah I’m also quite sure I saw a dev responding to someone complaining about meteor shower. They said it will get a red circle. Didn’t hear anything about Tornado tho.

This is a Quality of Life update, what do you expect? Just relax and enjoy the ride. At least things are getting better.

It’s like being handed free candy, and rejecting it because it’s not your favourite brand even though the candy tastes good.

People should be realistic and if they really think GW2 is so bad, why waste your time here. It just becoems ironic when they complain about Anet’s logic when they apparently don’t have on in the first place.

The point is: Yes, this is a great patch, and most of us like all the features in it, but most of it could have been implemented months earlier, and Arenanet made us speculate about there being more, unable to live up to that unnecessary hype.

I agree, OP. ANet build up to much hype on most things in the patch. I do have programming experience, and most things would indeed be a switch changing “when you equip weapon of ascended rarity, it becomes soulbound” to “…account bound” (if prgrammed well).

The wardrobe has to be thought out well, since the UI is very important for it. And the Rune and Sigil changes require careful balance.

However, most of all, I think Arenanet should have released all of these features one at a time over the past months as they were finished. This would have satisfied many players. It feels now as if they’re only doing these changes now to satisfy the new China players.

The worst thing however is that Arenanet presents these changes as if they thought of them. This is not true, since players have been asking for them for months. I have seen very elaborate, detailed posts about how the wardrobe should work. Now they say things like: “We think these changes will lead to a healthier game and more long-term fun.”. Many players thought that months ago…

I think this will be awesome. What about 30 Air with weakness on interrupts, 30 in earth for crit damage invulnerability, and then using the Magnetic shield while staying in Earth? NO damage from your enemies xD Sure, probably no damage from you either, but still pretty fun to try out :P

Or for that matter, you could also use the flame axe or greatsword and go 30 in fire and earth, and stay in earth.

Build diversity (new skills and traits)

First off, good post! GW1 had virtually infinite build diversity, and if you put a build together yourself, it still mostly worked ~90% as well as the meta builds, when in GW2 it is like ~66% as well (for example; using a signet build instead of cantrips on ele).

I think it would be wise for the devs to first focus on changing useless, unused traits before adding new skills. I know this only for sure about the Elementalist, but I presume it counts for other professions as well: in each trait slot, there is almost always only ONE trait worth picking, as it outperforms all the other traits in that tier. For example: Fire 10 points: you take the 10% increased damage, no question, unless using conjured weapons. Water 20 points, you take Cleansing Wave. Arcana 20 points you take Elemental Attunement. All the traits that are not too specialized and that do not compete with the best trait in that tier ought to be changed or buffed, or that single best trait should be moved somewhere else.

If we get more specific, I can not consider other professions than my main, since I have really ONLY played elementalist (see my name? xD), all of my other chars are lv 5.
The Elementalist needs to have more defensive traits in the offensive trait lines. This is because eles are very squishy and always need quite a bit of defense. Going into the offensive trait lines, but picking defensive traits would allow for more build diversity over the one build which ALWAYS uses Arcana for more dodges and boons and Water for healing, or the other build which is just all-out damage, then dead.

Anyway, good post, I hope Arenanet take a little time to look at their design philosophy and change things up a bit

A few days ago I proposed a change to Diamond skin:

Diamond Skin: When you lose more than 20% of your current health in a single attack, you gain aegis and lose 2 conditions. (ICD: 2 seconds)

This would solidify Diamond skins role as a tank trait, reducing burst and conditions while under heavy pressure

Sounds cool! I like the dual nature you propose, and the skills and mechanic sound balanced. It seems like a new, unique profession for the most part, but I think you should elabortae more on working out the mechanic, as it may be a little too similar to Ele now.

Of course, it is important that ANet fix problems with the other professions first before theyintroduce a new one. Until that time comes, keep this in mind!

20% is a bit much for the proc, thief war evicorate, necro life blast, els fire grab/ drag tooth are only class i can see that can do 20% in 1 hit with out major survivability penalties. hundred blades counts as many attacks so does necro axe #2 and alot of others. most proc skills are 10% for this reason.

Keep in mind that it’s 20% of CURRENT health. THis would mean, you’ll be blocking a lot of attacks when you are quite low on health!

Put Haste somewhere in the air trait line. It makes sense because lightning is quick!

Nerf tempest defense and send it to the 2nd trait line (delete inscription).

[Trait]
Gain 1.5 seconds of haste everytime you gain swiftness (no internal cooldown).

Grandmaster trait, done.

Balanced because 1. can’t get fresh air with it and 2. requires elemental attunement to be most effective. (so 20 in arcana)

This seems like a nice idea, with the quickness, but I think it would have to have an internal cooldown to not be OP. almost all quickness skills have 10% quickness uptime with downsides, so this should too. I think quickness can be very beneficial to eles with some long, telegraphed skills, but at the same time very hard to balance for the devs for the same reason. So I think your idea is not very realistic

Since there are so many traits that are utterly useless or outclassed by other traits, I’ve been thinking a lot about different trait ideas. I’ve seen a lot of great ideas on these forums, and I thought I’d add my own. I would also like to see everyone else’s (original) trait ideas!

Some of the, IMO, most useful, original and logical traits are these.
Keep in mind that the numbers may be changed, and it’s more about the idea behind the traits.

No Smoke Without Fire: Your Fire fields leave behind a smoke field for 2 seconds.
– Smoke Screen: Create a smoke screen that blocks projectiles and blinds foes.
– Duration: 2s
– Blind: 1 s
– Combo Field: Smoke

This is a utility trait that is a defensive option for elementalist while going into the fire trait line. Since every Elementalist will always have at least one fire field and a blast finisher, you will be able to gain stealth, while also reflecting projectiles and negating melee damage through blind.

Diamond Skin: When you lose more than 20% of your current health in a single attack, you gain aegis and lose 2 conditions. (ICD: 2 seconds)

Ele’s are extremely vulnerable to burst, and are (relatively) better at sitting out longer, lower damage fights, due to their healing powers (except ofc for full glass cannon fresh air spike).
Diamond skin would now be useful in almost every situation/build, and especially when at low health.

I think these could be cool additions and I would like the devs to think about replacing all the boring and useless traits with interesting, skillful and meaningful traits.

Very true, and well said! Great post.

Arenanet should not be adding new content or changing things nobody wants, creating new problems, until all of the problems that are already present are fixed.
My No 1 wish would be to make ALL the traits useful. And things like the pet mechanic apparently need an overhaul, but they’re working on it with the CDI, I presume…

I think it’s safe to say that, whatever profession you are going to work on (I hope ele), you’d want to rework the useless traits they have. I heard there are a lot of those (especially on ele).
