Haha yeahhh we did do a bit of evasive maneuvering. Idk how many it looked like we had, but we were running our typical tagless 25ish so for the most part pugs weren’t around us. I know they found us on our way to QL though so I can understand if it seemed like we had more. You guys did have some massive numbers though :P Didn’t get the siege inside SMC built quick enough to have a chance at you guys but still an entertaining night given all the circumstances.
And, did we threat to quit the game? Those threats are elitist egoistic crap, and you cannot turn it other way. If you do not like it, do not play it. Simple as that. How the hell did you conclude that guilds against this change are egotistical elitists? I’m not threatening to quit, look at my second post on this thread. I haven’t shouted or screamed and have been civil. Try to chill out and read the posts before your posts derail this.
I find it amusing that all you people do is threaten to quit but don’t. I am taking a LONG break from this game, maybe play once a month or log on to say Hi to friends. Needless to say, I think the people who are frustrated need to just leave for awhile and take a break too. If you see that the game is still broken and neglected, keep playing like I do, once a month maybe. There is more to life than this game, I see your passion but, to a certain extend. Imagine if ANET ran the Government, seems like it now, but sooner or later there will be an uprising and things will change.

I assume you aren’t a competitive player that has invested much into a guild. The 66 players in my guild have worked hard towards WvW and we aren’t afforded the luxuries of being fairweathers. Competitive guilds are either all in, or all out.
Im not gonna read through all the garbage on this thread against the patch, but I will point out that:
IT ONLY TAKES ONE PERSON TO BACK CAP / DECAP / CAP a point.
If you are so serious about WvW, why dont you take 1 person from your guild (who enjoys PvP) and let them do the capping…One person, your zerg spamming #1 will not miss one person.
Maybe you should read through “all the garbage”. Your post is irrelevant to the issues in WvW. My third post: “The difference is both sides could choose to have or not have it. You’re right, we don’t want enemies to have the buff. You’re completely wrong in thinking that we actually want it, or thinking that all of your allies want you to get them the buff too.

The power creep in WvW is another complete issue all on its own, and this stat buff just adds to it. This stat buff killed the chances of having competitive fights. When you’re a guild in the open field, you don’t want to roll through another guild for a cheap win with an uneven advantage that the other guild had no real chance to have during the fight. I don’t want enemies to have the buffs, especially when we fight groups larger than us, but I definitely don’t want the buff on me either. It cheapens any win we’d have in the open field and destroys any semblance of competition WvW had.
Food and exotic stat potential has nothing to do with this orb buff. The difference is both sides could choose to have or not have it. For the orb buff, its either you have it, or they have it, and neither side can choose not to have it. Please stop posting here if you are going to derail this thread.

For almost 13 months, we have been waiting to see a completed product of the Devs work. We keep hearing that “it takes time”, that “its being worked on”. So many of us have waited quietly and patiently to see what comes from the hard work we’re told is being done on WvW.
To many of us, we still feel like there is so much more to come for WvW. Every month, thousands of us open the patch notes solely to look at the (often non-existing) WvW notes. Ever since the Arrow Cart Catastrophe in April’s patch, I’ve silently waited in growing frustration and the hopes that something better was coming.
What will it take for you to change your mind about the Orb’s Stat Bonus?
Do competitive WvW guilds have to stop playing to show you that you need to change it?
We are not the vocal minority, and it is the competitive WvW guilds that make up the backbone of all server communities. If that is what it takes to actually get your attention, than so be it.

Try capping it yourself with 15-20 people running between all the points, meanwhile you are out numbered like always and just barely holding on to towers and retaking those you have lost only to know its only a matter of time before they are lost again…
Aha. That is an interesting thing to say. Because if that happens you’ll be alleviated 15-20 enemy players on the map. Which means the system is working as intended.

SIC has been instrumental in training new members in FA the ways of WvW. Regardless of level and class, they are extremely effective with pugs through their coordination, even when most of the pugs aren’t on TS with them. Honestly it’s impressive and FA will miss having SIC. Wherever they go, you can expect them to be paramount in the training of new WvWers. I know I don’t have the patience they do, but hopefully the server they choose has many brand new WvWers that can follow SIC and be trained by them when they aren’t running a commander tag.

This already gets done as practice. Everyone hates it in comparison. sPvP, without major changes, will never work for GvG.
Agreed. We do sPvP all the time, and I hate it when people say its the same thing. 10v10s in sPvP require a completely different type of theory crafting and it has a completely different feel. Mostly its way too small for a WvW guild that has 50-70 members. If we wanted to do 10v10s in sPvP, we’d do 10v10s in WvW GvGs now. It is not the same at all. We want to be able to go at a scale that is somewhat similar to the way our guilds run open field in WvW.

The most disappointing part is that without the stat boost this patch could be something awesome. The new terrain and cap points will make it attractive enough for all the fights as is, they shouldn’t make people choose between the lesser of two evils by having or not having the stat boost.

The stat boost, while controversial, is there to give the buff meaning in the context of the general WvW battle. Providing boosts like %WXP, etc. don’t have impact in fights against other sides, they are just a nice bonus for you. The stat boost and the points for finishing players mean that not only do you want to have the buff, but you don’t want your opponents to have it.
First of all, who the hell +1 this? You’re right in that we REALLY dont want our opponents to have the stat boost. The difference Devon is that we don’t want the stat boost either. Do you honestly expect us to believe you’re responsive to feedback or do you just like to kitten with us? This patch will be like the arrow cart patch where regardless to what we say you still go through with your terrible ideas until the backlash legitimately threatens the game.
Can we get separate reset times for EU and NA? “No that’s not possible.”
Can we have an option to turn off the buff on ourselves? “No that’s not possible.”
Save yourself the time and save your game. Don’t add the stat boost. WE do NOT want it.

How do people and the Anet Devs not realize thakittens the Guilds that hold WvW together? The guilds that play competitively are the ones that are out there and actually KEEP WvW populated. We go out there in the hopes to find competitive fights and the GvG system we’ve made is the ONLY way to get a measurable competitive fight for guilds. Anet wanted a large scale pvp environment and that’s what our guilds are looking for. kitten off if you think we should go to sPvP for fair fights. If you think it’s the same you’re an ignorant joke.
Our WvW guilds have caused the rise and fall of all the servers. Look at the dead servers in NA? Now you want to introduce a mechanic that destroys the most measurably competitive play in WvW? Devon, look at the servers that have died. If you keep the buff as is, you will kill this game when you have the chance to make it so much better. Listen do your WvW/GvG guilds (the majority of us are one in the same). We will leave this game dead if you choose to kill it.
Being into The GvG scene does not mean we don’t WvW. Take it away though and it might, so all you saying the buff is awesome should think about what it will be like when the organized guilds leave this game.

That was a great fight over bay the past few hours BG. Not something I want to do every night, but it was one of the few sieges I’ve actually ever enjoyed and that is saying a lot with how much I hate sieging anything but paper. Shout out to CA and MERC of course for their defense. Wouldn’t want to do it again, but that was a very rewarding and competitive fight.

That is probably the only fight that had manageable skill lag from all of reset. Pretty disappointed to see AoI running 60+ and not breaking up into a couple groups after the first 10 minute rush on reset but I guess if that’s how deep your guild runs more power to you.
Honestly I’m pretty happy to see this matchup so long that you guys realize you can afford to run smaller than 1 map zerg/map and get much better fights. Looking forward to fighting KnT and LotD if they are still around and not doing the blob.

Then HOPE took the next two and we Famine said “we have to settle this to avoid a tie” because we were about to walk away because of the clkitten play from RE. You guys wanted to keep going to get more experience which was fine and all, but the next two rounds, kudos to TC’s fun loving pugs, weren’t exactly 20v20. Hey, kitten happens. So we go again and HOPE wins again.
I never said anything, but since you’re trying to call someone out here, I’ll take my turn too. The GvG with RE though unofficial, was the most clkitten play and waste of time we’ve done with any guild. From the 20 minute waits between rounds where RE members rage quit and you had to find replacements, to your fellow guildies hard downing my guys after they went over to you to clear any stacks they had every single time we beat you, to you guys coming over to recount HOPE’s numbers and taking your sweet time to check out our comp (wouldn’t care but this was in between rounds and we just wanted to fight), the respect my guild has for that GvG is pretty much non existent.
Now we all know guilds have bad nights, so I haven’t mentioned anything about that kitten show of a GvG. But if you guys want to claim you actually beat us in a “best of seven”……..lol come on bro, especially when you weren’t even there nor have I seen any “video evidence”.
If you guys want to claim you beat us 20v20, then lets do it. Since Mr. Official “4-3” man wants to make it official, why not?

You can’t fully recreate a build in sPvP that you have in WvW but many builds that become popular in WvW for different classes usually come from sPvP. They also have the same people that complain about those builds in sPvP complain about them in WvW (which is dumb imo) I don’t see spirit rangers killing zergs but w/e.
Exactly: You can’t fully recreate a build in sPvP. That’s what I’m saying, they need to take away the limits they currently have on what can be customized in sPvP so that people can play around more with stats instead of only being able to choose between 1 Amulet and 1 Jewel.
After the PvP build making is open to more customization, they need to apply that same PvP build making process to characters for WvW. It should be stats for each piece of gear and trinkets.

It’s not about making one more like the other. It’s called making a Player Vs Player mode (WvW IS PvP regardless of Anet trying to claim its PvE) more in line with competitive PvP.
SPvP has a negative connotation with some people in WvW that it really doesn’t deserve. In the end they are both PvP Game Modes, and yes sPvP has been botched badly by Anet with the extreme limits they put on customization, but if they made it more in line with the way things were in Guild Wars 1, I have no doubt there would be more interest in both sides.
GW1 PvP – Alliance Battles, HoH, GvG, FA, and JQ had the same type of people that were interested in Random Arena, Team Arena, etc.
If Anet took away the limits they’ve put on sPvP and applied the customizability to WvW, GW2 would see a much higher level of competitive play, strategies, and builds. Team composition could be perfected and guilds would much more time to play with their builds instead of having to commit to leveling a character from 0-80 before realizing its not what they wanted.

This isn’t that complicated. They did it in Guild Wars 1, there is no reason they can’t do the same thing here.
The customization in sPvP is crap compared to everything we can do in WvW/PvP at the moment, which in itself is also crap.
Anet – do what you did for Guild Wars 1, balthazar faction or “glory” as you call it to unlock runes, sigils, skills, and armor packs. Then don’t change a thing and let people gear their character completely like they can in PvE instead of the way it is now with 1 Amulet and 1 Jewel for all of the gear stats. Conceptually, its not that hard! Anyone that is against this is a carebear that doesn’t want to see the competitive play in WvW rise.
If anet did this, the theory crafting and group composition experimentation would go through the roof. Then again, WvW is a “PvE” game mode – Anet’s most embarassing downfall.
TLDR: Make WvW customizable like sPvP by making sPvP’s customization equivalent to WvW/PvE the way PvP modes were customizable in GW1.

Noo need to get hostile, this thread has been a civil stroll down memory lane as to what our matches use to be like. Deep down, we miss all miss the heavy rivalry between TC and FA. Unfortunately, I was not online tonight and was unable to witness such a miraculous victory, though I did see your inclusion of HOPE in your highlight video. I was disappointed to find out that that is the way the guild performed before I logged in, but commanders have to get experience some time.
Joking aside, as I told you on reset night, I enjoy coming across MU and haven’t found you guys to be runners unless there is some reason or another. When I’m online, you should never see HOPE running. Also, I think that you guys have done a good job of avoiding blobbing.

Waffler’s just role playing a bully and i’m pretty sure that guy he defeated was just role playing a nerd. Everything on TC is role play. Their gvg guilds role play on the forums as liking fights but spend the most time on siege, or hiding in siege range, or camping puggs/underlvls than i’ve seen from any other guilds of their kind. They also do a lot of relay race role playing. Running back to the tower to pass the baton.

Not sure where all the “TC blob” hate is coming from.. Most seen blobs is FA’s: RET, RAM, HOPE and more (70+), and we still fought them with about half the numbers…
And hell, even if we are somewhat blobbing at times, atleast we have a reason to – to practice for our T1 matches

Yeah HOPE/RAM bromance got too strong so we tossed the idea out as a joke and it became something serious.
As for the 70+ thing, I don’t event think that’s possible, both of us peak at around 25 members and RET was not even there, RET logs off way earlier than we do.
Also don’t claim you were outnumbered, we were running tagless so anyone that joined the fight on the FA side was just a random militia member who came to the swords, and I’m sure you had the same thing happening on your side. We peaked at around 40 ROPE and you guys had a pretty beefy map zerg in our BL earlier and EB.

Ahh, we did flip our tag on to let RAM know where we were after we hit NW Bay so they could port us in for Garrison, forgot to turn it off. At that time we had 48 total combined between our two guilds (Yeah 48 is a lot but we were split between two groups on different sides of the map 95% of the time) with the few militia cause we did a supply count to top off before we rushed it. About 20-25 HOPE, 20-25 RAM. I think we had 3 non HOPE on us at one time. CL and BURN came afterwards but we were far from a “map zerg”.
Wait. ^ That was during our Watergate Attack but that was 2 hours ago. lol are you talking about the attack on SE Gate? Then yes, I actually do mean 18 HOPE and 18 RAM.. You are right though, I did supply counts and have a bad habit of forgetting to turn it off. Literally run tagless, RAM had 19 in their TS (i know cause i asked them immediately after that fight), we had 20 HOPE and each had a few afks. We were joking in TS that you guys would be calling us a blob (the biggest reason I wanted to reply). Not trying to argue, but people’s perception kills me sometimes.

To be fair between both guilds we had about even numbers give or take a few pugs that wandered into the fight
Was fun either way, took us a a little to figure out what to do with that pain train of yours.
As a server we had numbers on them. They had about 33, we had 20, RAM had about 20, and there were a few FA that found their way there, where there weren’t many stray SoS. Too bad we didn’t have more fights this week though.

I do agree less with your second point. It will encourage a lot of flaming and griefing. People telling others to stay out of their way to maximize the income and others hanging around just to annoy players. In a perfect and honest world that would be the best system but in the real world it just creates problems. I cannot give you a real fix for the problem you are attempting to solve but I do not believe that what you suggest would work.
Agreed, that could definitely be a downside for it. I didn’t think it would change too much from the way things are now when guilds run tagless. Ideally Anet completes the Commander/Squad/Party Overhaul and lets groups run with a tag visible to guildies only or something similar. Running tagless, we end up with probly an average of three non-guildies latching onto us which wouldn’t normally be that much to drastically change the amount of points you earn for your side with the new scoring system. It’s definitely possible though.
I think most guilds at this point though really wouldn’t place a heavy enough emphasis on the points to rage at a few leechers since it’s still the fights that keep all of us coming back anyways.
Removing upgrades and making everything paper would promote zerging and karma trains.
That’s why I included both removing the upgrades and then changing the scoring system to prevent that. It was an extremely rough draft of the idea, but I just wanted to share the general basis of the idea. It wasn’t a flawless idea at all, but I think with a bit of touching up would be a better/more competitive system than what’s in place now.

I’m sure I’ll get some flack for this, and this isn’t the most polished idea so it has its Pros and Cons.
Income scoring is (imo) the entire reason WvW as a game mode has become a complete coverage and numbers game. Coverage wins matches, bottomline and that’s the reason most rational people don’t care about “winning”. Yes you can play smart and efficient and affect the score to an extent, but that can’t account for a coverage disparity.
1) Take away upgrades from World Vs World
- With a paper borderland, you are forced to be on your toes defensively and react quickly.
- The almighty “Discourages Zerging” – Forces groups to split up, which forces them to heighten their efficiency as a group (forces groups to get better at fighting)
- Smaller groups have an actual chance to affect a map or gain an objective.
- Lets a server recover from a coverage gap instead of having to face enemy t3 triple waypointed borderlands.
2) Replace Income Scoring with Successful Objective Capture/Defense Points
- Success can be judged on a numbers scale with a multiplier:
Even Numbers = score multiplier of 1.0
50% Less Numbers = score multiplier of 2.0
Twice as many people = score multiplier of .5
Example of a very unpolished scoring chart:
Keep Capture = 1000 points
Tower Capture = 400 points
Camp Capture = 50 points
Keep Defense = 500 points
Tower Defense = 200 points
Camp Defense = 50 points
Scenario: 30 BG captures Keep from 15 SoR
Multiplier = 15/30 = .5 × 1000 Keep Capture Points = 500 pts for BG
Scenario 2: 15 SoR successfully defend Keep from 30 BG
Multiplier = 30/15 = 2.0 × 500 Keep Defense Points = 1000 pts for SoR
The Breakout Event already can determine how many players are in a specific radius so this is possible to do.
Obviously, there is a lot more perfecting that would need to go into this idea, but some version of this would get the game into a “less with more” mentality and change a lot of the coverage issues and reward skilled play. Maybe changing the scoring is too much, but I still think we’d all benefit from fighting on unupgraded borderlands.

Hate to take advantage of you Devon but you seem to be on a roll here on the forum (which I’m hoping means you’re coming out of a big crunch and you have something shiny for us in the next update
) so I’d like to ask you two things.
1. Have you ever considered making it so players can’t damage doors without siege? Would greatly favour defence, which imo towers and keeps SHOULD do, and force an attacking group to play smart instead of just force doors down – particularly when it’s a group of 40. It sucks sitting in a keep but being helpless against the zerg that’s pummelling the gates to splinters.
2. Permanent finishers and being able to use them in WvW is great, but are there any plans to let us unlock them through WvW? Perhaps permanent ones based on World Ranks and temporary ones as rare loot from the champ bags?

You didn’t really ask me but I’d like to answer.
Towers and keeps already greatly favour defence, even before that ridiculous AC patch (that still needs fixing btw) defence was easier than offence. Pummeling down doors can be a tactic too, it cannot be done easily in a well defended tower/keep. Even now you are only helpless if you are incredibly outmanned. If you have x number of people defending the tower you would need at least 40 people to take it. So I don’t think making it harder to take towers would be a good idea.
The problem isn’t that towers are too easy to take it is that they are too rarely defended. I find it hard to see how making towers harder to cap would encourage defending.
I would rather have a counterintuitive solution that might work.
Decrease health on all structures by half. Towers and keeps should be a lot easier to take. Now people can choose to abandon a tower because they’ll be back in time to stop the cap. A tower without any defenders should be very easy to take, so easy that no commander would ever contemplate leaving a tower without leaving a defending team. I understand that this idea could also backfire but I do believe the likelihood of succes is pretty good and it encourages small specialized squads and discourages zerging.
I’ve been saying it for a long time, but maps are so much more fun and interesting when every objective is paper.
The nights that have been the most fun is when nothing is upgraded for either side. Take away upgrades from WvW and that makes the coverage disparity less punishing for servers following a coverage gap. There are downsides too I spose I guess for people that care about ppt that fight outmanned and are trying to hold onto their BL…but the most action is had on maps where things are paper. At least, there is definitely less action on triple waypointed borderlands.
The next step would be to take away income scoring, and make it so people only earn points by successfully taking or successfully defending an objective. There are definitely ways of judging “success” that could lead to a more skill based scoring game.

Am I missing something completely vital here?
Why isn’t the top WvWvW rated, high population, super organized WvWvW guild, servers matched against each other?
It’s the issue of a handful of servers floating around every week totally wrecking the fun for the majority.
Let the top servers duke it out and let the other servers be at peace.Wouldn’t that solve all problems?
I’m eager to hear the cop-out!the simple answer is, WvW matches are done in groups of 3 servers, but there are 4 or 5 ‘top tier’ servers. so 3 of the 5 get to play each other, and they generally have a good matchup. the 1 or 2 ‘top tier’ servers that are left over get to play somebody else, and those matches are almost always blowouts.
under the old system, it was always the same server that got blown out (#6). under the new system, it varies, so a lot more people get to experience what the #6 server had to endure week after week after week.
the old matchup system only worked well when servers of similar strength could be found in groups that were exact multiples of three. otherwise you got blowouts. the new matchup system can’t (and doesn’t) fix this basic problem, all it does is spread the pain out so that specific servers don’t get stuck being beaten every week in an endless series of blowouts.

Not trying to call you out but this really isn’t accurate at all. The tier 2 matchup with 4 vs 5 vs 6 had been one of the closest matchups of all the tiers even up to the point RNG was added. The final score typically had all 3 servers within a 40k spread. No one really knew who would win the week at the start and the competition was good. It did get a little stale playing the same servers for so long but it did give much better matchups than the RNG has provided, though it was refreshing to mix it up the first couple weeks.
FA has been the #6 server for a while but we traded places with DB and TC both, and we finished 2nd more times than we finished 3rd. Those matchups weren’t blow outs by any means.

Obviously I’m biased for FA, but both have some awesome Oceanic Guilds. Heard nothing but good things about SoS’s [TS] so if not FA, i’m sure you’ll be happy with your choice.
On FA you have a few choices though! There is Night Vision [NV], Unreal Aussies [uA], Avatar [AVTR] (if you can manage to join them), and several others!

How was our Cleansing? Our Healing? Our Movement? Our Caster Positioning? Our Communication? What classes need to make adjustments on their builds? We look at everything throughout the night and strive to make the adjustments needed. This fight was 11 days ago, and we have made substantial changes and strides forward since then.
