Why is it rewarding to do something that’s natively hard but not something that you make hard if you’re getting the same objective rewards?

I don’t want to make it hard by myself, whats the point in an MMO to play for good gear / traits / skins… and then have to not use it in order to make the game challenging?

Since we get since a while a lot of items like “Essence of Luck” or now the
“Piles of Silky Sand”, I think it’s time to give another Inventory update:
- rightclick “Consume All” triggers the whole stack which is clicked
- rightclick “Consume Amount X” (or some better name ^^) let’s you enter a
number and then this amount of the stack is consumed

I’m already short on mouses, after klicking through stacks and stacks of luck (even after combining it to the higher ones), stacks of sand, etc…

I don’t want to be forced using klickbot for saving my hand.
(I know this has been mentioned a lot, but I think the devs always didn’t answer
and keep adding items you end up having to klick through a lot of stacks)

Want a challenge? Stop rolling easy classes with zerk builds and run with no traits, no gaming mice and lag yourself. Now you have a challenge, why is it the people who always complain about things being to easy are the ones playing face roll dps classes?

I can tell you from experience that even with a more tanky build the achievements are too easy, they only take more time.

Just tried the first achievement (don’t let any workers die) on 2 strong characters. Unless there’s some trick to it that I haven’t discovered yet, it’s impossible to solo- groups of Inquest come from two widely-separated paths at once, can’t be kited to the same place and attack two widely-separated groups of ultra-squishy workers at once. I tried with a 1200-range Staff Ele and a 1500-range Ranger with tank pet, but It is not possible to cover both at once or get the workers to move into a single group where they can be defended by a single player.

In my humble opinion, “that’s too easy” postings are generally just elitist brags. So good for whoever thinks this is too easy. You are so uber. We are in awe of you.

For me, I hit the Exit to Desktop button as soon as I fully realized the necessity to solo-defend both widely-separated groups at once. Personal Story achievements that require a group to complete are just infuriating to me and cause me to go play something else, or watch TV.

I did it with a staff ele in meele range… solo

Content should be designed with the majority of players in mind, achievements only 1% of people can get would be dumb and a waste of design time in my opinion.

I think the ones we are getting are fine.

This 1% we are talking about is most likely playing the game more than the other 99%.
If anet isn’t allowed to make content for this 1%, then there shouldn’t be legendarys in the game and no 50 fractals…
Everyone should have a little bit love, even if it’s only this 1%…

they are difficult enough, if you want more difficult achievements chase the more difficult ones.
try to max the overkill with a necro, try to survive long enough to get the survivor achievement with anything but a guardian, make something out of it instead of using an already OP profession and complain that “it’s to easy”.

I did everything with my ele, since when is rhe survivor achievement difficult? and this is the first time as a most times pvp player that i hear ele is op.

Too easy? Probably they’re too easy for zerk warrior meta then, as I definitely lack DPS for all this DPS-meter stuff aka “kill monsters X and Y before they kill NPCs or time runs out”.

On the other hand, you enjoy the extra 1 hour of playing, while I don’t even feel like replaying it all over again for achievements at all.

I’m zerker staff ele.
Why you don’t want to do the achievments, not enough reward or too difficult (I don’t know how other people think about them, I’m only showing my thoughts)

I remember the Devs talking about the high difficulty of the achievements for this new living story and that not everyone can do them.
So now I’m here to tell you that this didn’t happen, the Achievements are
WAY TOO EASY, none challenged me, even without a guide at release, I completed every single one on my first try, except the NO TRICKS one – the fail caused by a
bug.

So PLEASE make it more challenging, I play the story, enjoy it for ~1hour, (it really got good now in Season 2) then replay it for the achievements ~1hour – then I end up having nothing to do than grind for Geodes, go back to PvP or WvW.
Stand to your words and make some Achievements REALLY hard, so only 1% or less of the players will manage to complete them, even Crown Pavillion Liadri was too easy.

But a huge + for don’t giving us grind achievements, I liked them, because they gave me something to do, but at the same time I hated them because they where so boring xD.

I want something I need hours and hours to complete, even if it’s just one achievement

Anyone else feeling so?

Achievement Points in general indicate how much you have played the game – and in general :the longer someone playing a game, the better he becomes (i know it’s not exponential or linear).
Noone can argue against the fact that a player that played the game for 4000hours is better than a player that played 20hours.
I always filter people with the achievementpoint indicator, I know it’s not the best filter (there Are people with less points and they are better than people with a lot) , but in most situations it works very well.

Achievement BUG

The Achievement No Tricks from the new living story has a major bug:
If you kill all the inquest BEFORE the npcs finish talking in front of their console, the
top right green mark will say you finished everything, but it bugs out and the consol defens keeps running (inquest spawn and attack timi and the rest of the group, but they keep spawning even if you kill them and the story doesnt continue). At the place where you killed every inquest before, the ally clones and minions keep spawning, but nothing more happens….
Only restarting the instance and waiting for the npcs finishing their talking before you kill all the inquest fixes the issue.
Please let your Q&A know that some people are running builds with high dps, so that such things are possible (killing something before something else triggers) – which bugs everything following.

Since the last few patches they suddenly reappeared, it was quiet for months before.
Why did they reappear? Maybe because they noticed nothing is done against them.
Currently we can report people for selling gold, but is this the solution to the problem?
NO.
The goldsellers are using hacked accounts, not their own (they are not stupid) and are using them to whisper the people and send their gold (if they even do it). This problem can’t be handled by arenanet, it’s the players fault who have unsave passworts, use their same passworts in many games, on many sites, so let’s ignore this.
BUT WHAT CAN BE DONE:
Make that the people don’t want to buy the gold from third party sites!
HOW?
Make them fear buying from unsave sites:
Display game messages on logging in that say:
“PERMANENT BANS FOR EVERYONE BUYING GOLD FROM THIRD PARTY SITES”
And show the players that you mean it as you are saying it, just ban them and display:
“5000 accounts permanently banned for buying gold from third party sites”
I remember guild wars 1, where you messaged:
“3000 accounts banned for botting, match manipulation…”

So if the people don’t buy gold anymore, the goldsellers will silently disappear and everyone will be happy: Players don’t get spammed anymore, ArenaNet (NCSoft) making more money,…

Thanks for reporting this! This looks like a scaling issue where the effect is scaling the character’s size but the skill itself is not scaling. A fix for this will require some design work so I can’t say a whole lot in regards to when it could be fixed.

While a respect this honest answer, I’m really concernd that we didn’t even get a "soon™ ".

I wish I could say soon™. But this is a pretty interesting issue to address.

Easy fix:
Just make that if you enter a pvp match, you automatically get transformed into a human character, so no issues anymore (for the time you are in this match). Like when you use a tonic or so.
And btw I want an option for myself to let everyone be shown in a pvp match as a human so I finally can see the animations of the Freaking asuras and norn mesmers stop destroying my view…

How would this idea handle things like cultural armors? Won’t turning everyone into humans cause a loss of uniqueness in the game? Every player has specific facial adjustments, body types, heights, armor colors, and weapons; what happens to these?

I disagree with Dwayna because I like asura and think the fault of players who complain about asura is that they didn’t roll asura themselves then…

I like asura because:
- their way of moving, it feels a lot better than human, charr, norn, sylvari
- they don’t fill up my screen, give me a way better view of my surroundings
- generally they’re so cuuuuuuute

I do not think asura make a difference in high skill games:
- With tab-target it doesn’t matter how big the character is
- I have lost plenty of duels against other races with an asura
- Asura have a disadvantage: their hitbox is bigger than their character, which makes it easier to hit them as enemies don’t need to come that close

I would probably quit the game if they banned all my cute characters out of SPvP. I play this game because of it’s cosmetics, and end-game is all about it.
SPvP being my only game mode I play, it would be really sad to have all the characters I worked kitten to get a unique and cool look to be banned from SPvP.

I think you missed the point of this whole thing.
You come with the same reason the people bring up if they play OP builds:
Go play it yourself instead of complaining that something is op! – Thats not the way
this kind of community and game works.

First: most of the options we discuss here are client sided, so if you don’t want
anything to change ,just go into the options (if it gets finally implemented).
Second: Asuras have an advantage, just because you lost against other classes doesn’t
mean you have no advantage playing one, just think about what you said and
it may will become clear to you, it’s again clearer if you think about it with my
OP Class example.
Third:The hitbox on all classes are the same, so no difference there, it’s only the
animations and visual effects we are talking about.
And Finally: No one wants to take away your things you grinded for so hard while
playing a GAME.

PS: Asuras are not cute , i would prefer quaggan.

To quickly recap what you have all been saying, it looks like there are two significant groups that think they have the best solution to this issue.

The first being to scale all of the asuras up to be larger and scale down the charr and norn. The second is to turn everyone in the match into a human.

I think that there are a few things worth mentioning. The ‘generic humans from WvW’ are not like other character models in the game. They have a smaller animation set which would be unable to properly display all animations, which is exactly what the original problem is. The other thing to note is that with SAB the scaling did not make all races the same height.

Hopefully this provides some insight and can help drive discussion on more viable potential solutions.

Didn’t know that the WvW models have a smaller animation set.
But would it be possible to make a “standard” character model that gets displayed if a player chooses a special setting? So that there is a little check box in the options, if you klick it, everyone gets displayed as human standard with his/her armor and weapon, if cultural then it displays the human cultural instead.
So every character even if its already human gets normalized on your client (same height, same face, …) , armor will still be the same as without this setting well as weapons, but if you have a cultural piece equipped it shows the human version. As this would be client sided, the people who want to see their asura get to see their asura, but the people who want to see the animations get to see the animations.
Or would this be a too great expense?

As a pvp player I don’t care about visuals – most times they cause more trouble than they help. In WvW you can also tune down everyone to a name-tag, so tell me where is the “unique” there? PvP should be about PvP and not about visual, for visual there is PvE, it was a mistake in first place to make legendarys usable in PvP.
There would also be the option that this is client side optimization, so that if a player
wants his visual he can have it and if he doesn’t he can just make everyone to human standard customization – so for the people like me who want to see the animations and not the visual clustering and asuras (there are some, not many but a few skills have good animations ^^)
But ty for answering anyways.
Edit: and therefore you have a similar system already in wvw I would say it should be easily implemented, but thats just me as a player, I don’t know how you guys coded this game.

I see no problem with adding a reward track that gives a black lion key at the end. It defently consumes more time than key farming. But the questions is, is there anything good in it for pvpers? We only want the weapon skins, so maybe let them add the tickets as reward. But then the question ist how much time should 1 ticket consume because normally there would be the rng envolved.
So I like the idea but I think it can’t be implemented.

+1 Make it happen!
Also give at the end of a match some Information:
Team/Player Health at every time
Damage-output per team in Conditions and Physical Damage at every time
Highlite spikes, etc
And maybe for the sake of tactics add a function to replay the match, if not physical
than on a map where it shows every player as an icon, how they rotate and everything related,
so you can see rotation-mistakes, etc

PvP Crit sigil work, so if you “crit” you deal between 700 and 1,2k dmg and 1hit everyone.

This is obviously a bug, everyone has 100 hp xD

If they implant an more strict afk system , then i want a ‘’class ban’’ option like LoL ! it wont be trolled b the community dont worry !

Decay bar .
Splitted up in three parts (orange-yellow-green area) .
Start decaying from the 100% (casting spells or doing actions
refills it + can stack up to 130%) .

You loose 1 decay point every 1 sec (even in death) .
You loose faster the decay bar ( -2 decay points every 1 sec) ,
when the bar is more than 60% .
You loose evn faster the bar (-3 decay points every 1 sec) , if you stay on th base for more than 10 sec .

If you reach 0% you get a disshonor .
If your game ends and you have less than 30% decay point(orange area) you get 25% of the total reward .
30%-60% (yellow area) = 50% rewards .

Decapping a base +
doing a combo with a friend’s aoe field +
healing/stealthing/sharing boons to a friends =
awards ’’MASSIVE’’ decay points

Getting attacked by a player gives 3 decay points every sec
(while the bar is still decaying -1) .
Getting nuked by 5 players = 3 points x 5 players = 15 every sec .
The same rules aply to <<dodging>> = evade 5 different ’’sources’’ = 15 points
Using a attack/spell awards points (but not the auto attacks / the downstate auto attack
althought awards 3 decay point with each attack)

Mate, have you ever bunkered a point? You stay standing on one point nearly all match, and occasionally fight enemies, but if you’re good enemies will start attacking other points cause they can’t take yours. So… you’d kick every bunker.

A good bunker rotates and doesn’t yolo camp his point 24/7, if it gets ignored.

I think the rally mechanic of the npc’s at the guild lord is not well balanced.
If 1 npc dies it rallys everyone of the enemy team, this mechanic has no counter play because you can’t heal the npc’s enough except the guild lord.

I would prefer to change the Npc’s so they don’t rally the players if they die, this would boost the chances of the defending team to wipe the attackers.

Best thing: hit the engineer 1 time and stand still xD he will 1shot u, think someone buffed them a little bit haha, also i love how they finish u if you both are in downstate ^^

I ragequitted today after playing since launch. I just can’t stand the meta anymore, I don’t say i play perfectly but I would consider myself as a good elementalist. But there is no space for us currently. Will look back after the patch but if I can’t play my class even after the balance patch I will quit this game with a bleeding heart – loved GW1, love GW2, but for the balancing right now there is now other nicer word than “crap” that fits.

wait a minute….. if you’re rank 70 that means you already got rank chests for all of those ranks. and you’ll get 11 more on patch day….. so total still 80 rank up chests. A new player going to R80 will also get the same # of chests at the end of the day. Nobody is getting more total chests than you, it’s just that you got yours in the past and they get theirs on patch day.

All in all the amount of rank chests are the same. The real issue here is that for all your playing hours beyond the (new) R80, there will be no recognition or reward.

It has nothing to do with how many chests you receive on patch day and everything to do with there being no clear recognition or goal to work towards past the new R80.

it would also be less intimidating for newer players, because you could then play PvP without any permanent stat attached to you. You could make a pvp toon and if it goes badly you could just delete it and erase your 2-9 record forever.

And this would make the ladder useless

The problem is, OE – if they would give everyone every chest they deserve, it will BREAK the economy
But you are right, it’s punishing for high rank players which kept the game alive.
