Am I reading this wrong? Why would we want to disable swapping to another class/character? I really don’t want to be a mesmer on a team with 3 thieves and another mesmer.

Can you quickly more clarify this:
does leaving for a short time (e.g disconnect, character select screen,…) give instant the loss or only if you log back in with a different character than you queued up and will you be hinted at this?

Count dodges, then time your pointblank shot.

This from a thief player – as if it would be possible to count the dodges a thief has available (i speak from meta builds) with vigor on heal, energy sigil, short bow and signets that restore endurance….

Power Ranger vs Thief should be an easy matchup for the thief.
Other classes are fine in this regard, only problem is after you counted the dodges of your enemy you are already dead as a power ranger if it is melee combat.

At this point i’m not sure myself how this problem could be handled good, because right now power ranger is only for low tier pvp where no coordination exists. If you strengthen the survivability then it may get op in this regard and it wouldn’t really change anything for high tier.

But as it is point blank shot is too strong for decapping so it defently needs a nerf, but we have to see how it will play out for defending against melee specks after the nerf.

How does matchmaking work?
Right now the algorithm is incredibly simple. (Read: not intelligent)

  • For solo arena we find 10 players near the same MMR and then shuffle those players into teams to make the teams as even as possible (MMR-wise).
  • For team arena we find 5 players near the same MMR, no shuffling. We then find another team near the same MMR and put them together.
  • The range of players you get paired with grows over time as you’re waiting to increase chances of finding a match. Which can lead to playing with people outside your skill range (usually lower).
  • It doesn’t factor in PvP rank, profession, leaderboard rank, or anything else. It’s all about the MMR.

So I was right, now that jonathan sharp is no longer the head dev in PvP things are going to change.

This is not true. They talk about the skyhammer changes this coming week and that means whatever they have in mind is already finished (anet talks about something = it is rdy to launch and get’s the last few QA tests).
That means, that this skyhammer change was made while Jon was still at Anet doing his job. He is a great person and I think the game we love wouldn’t be half so awesome without him.

the first part i won’t even comment, but for this:
I’f you mean for stomps, then use this tactic: attack 2 times (first attack clears the first blind tick, second attack clears the one that comes right after) and then use your interrupt skill.
The blind field was changed recently so it applys the blinds less often than before and you can land your interrupt.
If you mean for combat, then just don’t stay in it – it’s really small and most
(auto-) attacks hit a thief hiding in it if you stand right at the side.

You can rest assured, if 100 players report Fred, but Fred’s not doing anything wrong, he’s going to be just fine. The 100 false reporters? Not so fine, if they start abusing the report system. (And we may not use the exact message as expressed above, but that’s pretty much how it works. )

I remember a livestream months ago (maybe half a year or so) where someone did a fake giveaway of a legendary (he did the drawing off camera and a friend of him won) – people got upset and massreported him, around 500 people where watching. On stream you could see 3-4 min after people started to report him he was kicked out of the game, he tried to log in again but he got a error massage, that he was banned – but he did nothing wrong ingame, it was only on twitch.
(Don’t ask who he was, I was only watching it because of the giveaway xD)

This is nothing though. Right after this change was made, people who didn’t read the patch notes thoroughly, continued on with their ‘tax evasion’ schemes. This resulted in one guy getting Chaos Pistol for 10s. Another guy picked The Lover for something like 11s99c. BL skins going for 2-5s. I can just imagine the tears, knowing you can’t report a fix to your own exploitation as a ‘Bug’. I can just see JS cheesing as he read through some of the posts following that patch.

Didn’t know this bug, but I’m laughing tears right now. ;D

Get Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center and configure a macro for auto clicks, its quite simple.
Dunno if it works with non Microsoft keyboards but u can try. If it doesnt, a cheap M keyboard with some multimedia buttons that u can macro on its like 10$ or even less.
Point on your stacks/ buy button etc, press the macro button …. Voila so fast

Just works until ANet sees you doing this. Makros are not allowed, you can get banned for using one. I heard of a guy in the wvw scene, he made a makro for aoe loot and got banned right before he was at the 250k kills achievment.
Be careful, don’t use makros. Bind it to your mousewheel or so but don’t use makros.

The following 3 bad things about soloq makes me play solo teamqueue:
- no standard enemy models
- less reward
- skyhammer

If you change this I will return to soloQ, else I keep playing solo teamQ like a lot of other people.
Only people who play soloQ are the ones that have a good team for teamQ and don’t want to kill their statistic by playing solo teamQ or the ppl that don’t realize the 3 points I made.

MASSIVE lag spikes

I get the feeling that the problem is not directly server, but client related.
- Not everyone gets the lags and dc’s, 3 out of 5 per team, but mostly not the whole
team.
- Only GW2 has the lags and dc’s, all other programs on the computer in the meantime
have no problems like this and run smoothly.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I think it would be a good idea to check this, because I can’t explain this to me otherwise. Maybe the game client just bugs out and disconnects.

Like most people noticed here in the forums – there is a lot more dev interaction with the community again and I love it.
When we finally see some of this conversation go into the game after the development progress, I will say, I regained the faith into ArenaNet.
Thanks! for using your time to communicate with us, I know and understand it’s hard to have to listen to your bosses and the community both at the same time and still do the content on a short time frame, but it’s necessary to keep all this up to make gw2 more awesome and keep the players playing the game.

ArenaNet did some selling to PvP section in the past, but my guess is that after September 2014 patch those sells will drop a lot for the following reasons:

1. Skins – why buy skins when there is “standard models” so you can only show to 50% of players (your team)?!
2. Finishers – why buy finishers when the rank 70 and 80 finishers are the most wanted?
3. Boosts – why buy boosts when you can not even use them in PvP?
4. Crafting – there is no crafting required in PvP.
5. Minis – Miniatures can not be used in PvP, nor will they fight by your side.
6. Entertainments – Box of Fun and Boblehead Lab can not be used in PvP.

These reasons are the exact point to why they do not care much about PvP – it does not sell as PvE does.

The above statements are my personal opinion. I may be wrong, but only time tells.

Sorry to correct you, but:
1.) standard models is only in team arenas and I think you make your character look like cool for yourself, this small change will not affect the normal process of players
wanting to dress their characters.
2.) I don’t know where you have your source on that, but I would say that most people have other favorites than those two.
3.) legit
4.) Some skins can only be crafted (ascended stuff like light of dwayna backpiece), but yeah its not required, only optional for a small amount of skins.
5.) They can be shown in HoTM, and with next feature patch they get easier to use, so maybe we will see in future some changes here.
6.) Bobblehead CAN be used even in tournaments right now.

But yeah, the only thing from this list pvpers really care about would be the skins and finishers I would say – since gw2 is a cosmetic game.

Jumpdodge gives you a small advantage because it moves you a little further away from your original position than a normal dodge. It’s only a small difference though.

A small difference, can also have a huge affect! :P

Yeah, but it mostly affects jumping puzzles as trying to get on clocktower from the side or something. Each time if there is a jump that you just can do with normal jump 1 in 100 times you will do it with dodgejump easily. But it affects pvp only in a few encounters.
Though it is good if you can do it if you play pvp on the high level.

Pause feature: Implementing this in an MMO makes my head hurt just thinking about it. I honestly see no way to do this without a significant rework to most systems in our game unless we implement a pseudo-pause.

What do you exactly mean with pseudo-pause?

A pause that just feels like one but isnt quite a pause. So not the game pauses instead every player cant do anything anymore, but the game still goes on (environment and so on), you just cant move anymore and cant activate skills. But it will be hard for them to do this with the AI (all thus petting zoos) and such things.
At least this is what I could imagine he meant.

A dps class if you want to cap a point since the guard deals no dmg and the dps calls will get support, save rezz, save stomp and so on.
If you just want to bunker it when it belongs to you then use a class with high cc like hambow or such.

Hotjoin is going to be chaotic no matter what we do since people are free to leave at any time. For people who are wanting a more structured experience, why not play solo or team arena? I’m not asking this to sidestep your concerns, but rather to find out why there is a desire to force structure upon hotjoin when there is already a more structured game mode. This would help us determine if hotjoin actually needs some restructuring, or if there is a better place these types of players can go.

Because hotjoin gives rankpoints. Some people think rankpoints = high level pvp.
Delete the points from hotjoin and soloq will go to the next level with more players.

I /laugh when i solo roam with my staff zerker ele and a s/d thief comes, thinks he is uber pro and gets himself killed. Srsly a s/d thief should win against a zerker staff ele no matter what ^^

Yeah, wait until the 2 years anniversary – there will be most likely a sale.

And to answer your question:
I would buy some nice armor (you can use one piece of it to make your normal outfit more appealing), bankslots and characterslots and a makeover kit for special hair/face/eye styles.
But DONT buy the frking keys, they are only RNG based, so just buy them if you feel lucky, but don’t expect anything of them.

As far as gold > gem, and gem > gold prices is concerned. There is a set amount of gems that are added to and drawn from when people either buy gems and convert to gold, or use gold to buy gems. The more people use gold to buy gems, it does remove gold from the game, but increases the the price for gems. The more people use RL money to buy gems, and convert to gold, the price goes down. The reason we are seeing higher prices in the gold to gem conversion side, is that more people are buying gems with gold, creating an “imbalance” (if you will) of the gold to gem price.

From what I understand, the reason for the price increase on items, (I’m sure you are refering to T6 mats and precursers) is not because of inflation, and more people having more money, is that these items are in much higher demand. More people have been leveling their crafting to 500, making legendaries, and ascended. As more people are willing to pay a higher price, these prices will naturally rise.

The gold/gem rates have very little to do with gold inflation inside the game.

Ok, I’m not the best at economics, so please explain me what of the following is wrong:

Game Inflation:
More Money in the game, so players have more gold to spend on items,
but Item quantity stay the same -> prices go up.

Players want things in the gemstore, but don’t want to spend real money -> they convert gold to gems (Gem is kind of an item).

The more gold the players have, the more they are willing to spend on gems
-> gemprices go up.

So in my opinion the gemprices reflect inflation to a high degree (maybe not totally because it depends also on the gemstore itself, if it has good offers people want the things more and the prices go up, if it has bad offers people don’t convert much, so prices are stable (history shows: gemprices never really fall ), but for the most part
I think it does.

Well, that’s assuming they have the resources to add more Achievements.

My point is: If there is a limited amount of resources, then it is likely those resources would be used to satisfy the greatest number of players.

Still, who knows? Maybe they will add some ‘more difficult’ Achievements to satisfy the 15%, or maybe they will add some ‘easier’ Achievements to satisfy the 15%.

My bet is on neither.

The funny thing is, that the devs even told us they would make difficult achievements, so they obviously have some resources for achievements.
This thread is purly there for the reason that they didn’t achieve their goal with difficult achievements in my opinion and to show this them (and give opportunity for other people to discuss about it, too).

There are each time I think around 8 achievements or so in this story, so they could do 4 like the ones you get right now, 2 easier ones and 2 more difficult ones. This would give everyone something to do.
They mentioned a couple times, that achievements now are not for everybody like it was in Season 1, they obviously want a challenge for their players.

And as a side note: they should do something about the 20% that is not interested in doing them at all.

Well, given that most RNGs use time as a component of its seed, a “consume all” option might heavily skew the results of opening boxes; it’s likely a majority people will get nothing, but a few outliers will wind up getting an exotic/ascended for every box opened.

Thats how RNG works.
With this feature you would have the option to use it, but you don’t have to,
if this breaks the “feeling” for you of opening rng boxes.
I’m just tired of breaking my hand by klicking through everything.
The same should be done with vendors, so you can choose how much of a
specific Item you want to buy, so you don’t have do klick million times for obsidian shards or items that even need confirmation each time (icy rune stones)…

Except for the fact that it’s immediately counter-balanced by people who think it’s already too hard. If 15% of 100 people is enough to make them want to think of how to make it harder, why isn’t 15% of 100 people enough to make them want to think of how to make it easier?

Ok, listen:
There is no such thing as counterbalance in this case. Why?
Because there are different kinds of players, and a mmo is there to give them all something to do, because it’s focused on a large number of players.
I DONT say they shall only make difficult achievements, the 50/15/15/20 means following: they should do manly achievements like the ones right now, but also some easier ones and some more difficult ones, and for the 20% that don’t bother either higher the rewards or make it in some other way enoyable.

Your poll nicely shows that Anet is doing it right, with the majority of players liking it the way it is.

Using your logic you could also argue on the flipside they would “have” to make it easier.

I think you don’t get it either.
A game shouldn’t only serve 1 type of players, especially if it’s a mmo.
I don’t want their whole resources, only a little bit.

but this is not the point, the point is: it’s more than expected and enough for Anet to
cover.

hard: ~15% || easy: ~15% || good: ~50% || not worth doing: ~20%
Surprised: not for 1%, but ~15% of the players the achievements are too easy

and the same % shows it’s to hard, better yet 50% tells that it’s good the way it is.
conclusion, why change when it works….

I think too many people don’t understand my goal:
I DONT want them to change ALL achievements, I just want 1 (or more if they want to) achievement that is really difficult even for the hardcore players.
Everyone else just gets everything how it is.

Why should they make challenges based around requiring top gear instead of spending their time on making their game good for the greater number of people?

Hell, even the achievements now are challenging for some people. Just because you can do them easily doesn’t mean they’re not challenging.

They should because it’s a mmo, people like me want such things, I don’t demand all their resources, just a tiny bit like I said.
Achievements should be challenging and there should be for everyone something, thats all I’m saying (I would take more if I would get it).
There is a reason that single player games have different difficulty options, in
guild wars 2 there is no such thing (in gw1 there was at leas “Hard Mode”), so they could give the players that are more good at the game something to do.
Noone in GW1 argued about Hard Mode (before entering a map you could choose this and then everything got harder), you needed top gear for it. Everyone liked it, I don’t say they should do something like this again (would cost too many resources) but there should be something really challenging for everyone.
