Open world guild halls (at least to me) would be much closer to how the lodges function in Hoelbrak.

I’m not sure on the airship proposal. I’m not keen on air ships to be honest. But, that’s just my perspective on it.

A Guild Airship would be cool…but not as a Guild Hall…maybe make it an option…I know many would like to be “Sky Pirates”…I dunno…I’m on the fence on this one…as long as it would fly over stuff and you could look out and see things you’re flying over…maybe “Far-Seerers” mounted along the railings…but that’s a ton of work…a mobile Vista Viewing kinda deal. I’m leaning more toward Ground-Based Guild Halls myself.

Unless we can do airship battles, I don’t want any Guild Airships

As for guild alliance halls. They could work, and would be neat. The only issue would be, what happens if the alliance breaks apart? who gets the hall? Does it go away if the alliance fails and a new one has to be started all over? If anything, that could be a completely new and different CDI if (or after ) guild halls are implemented.

That sounds as complicated as a divorce :P

Morning All,

Due to recent events I must confess that I am only properly knowledgeable up to roughly page 12 but I want to jump in and start discussing things with you. I hope that is ok.

I want to emphasize that my questions, thoughts, and brain storming are theoretical and should not be taken as a given. With that said I want to start at the foundation.

Ok lets assume that in the world of the CDI Guild Halls have a lot of horizontal progression such as the ability to create buildings, upgrade them and customize the whole experience. What is the smallest guild size that this would be suitable for. Even more specifically is it ok to have a ton of progression in this Guild Hall example and have small guilds work through it.

An idea I wanted to throw into the mix would be could small guilds have a shared Guild Hall with an Alliance?

I think there’s no real minimum behind guild halls, unless you hide it behind merits, which is a bit harder to come by in a small-ish guild.

I worked on getting my guild upgrades done, the guild was created at pre-launch of the game, and my active players ranged from 3-4 to around 20 at peak time during those past 2 years+

We recently finish upgrading everything this summer. Yes, it took a while, and what we did in-between, we played guild missions with an allied guild, while we would get enough influence to upgrade everything we needed.

I think being a smaller guild, working towards these objectives that seems so far away, brings us closer together, working towards a common objective. Now we run our own missions every week, and when we’re recruiting we can say we have everything unlocked.

So nothing is really unreachable, if you don’t mind putting the time in it.

This is a great break down, but I was speaking more about categorizing guild upgrades. Let me give an example to help get things started:

  • WvW
  • PvP
  • Guild Missions
  • Dungeons

This would tie the upgrades more to game mode than to the current arbitrary categories.

So. This is about changing the categories to be more inline with game modes and it looks like you’re adding a few as dungeons and PvP only oriented categories don’t exist currently. Since politics and economy work globally across game modes (in general), where would they fall in this new category structure?

I’m at the point of trying to see what this has to do with the halls themselves though. Or are we just speaking about what parts of these new categories would be displayed in a hall? I like the idea of having an extra Asura Contractor show up and start building stuff in a workshop (which could currently sit in the architecture area “Build a physical workshop in your guild hall”). They could be crafting things like banners banquets and the like. While it’s a fun idea, it really doesn’t add much functionality to the upgrade system, but it does integrate the idea of halls more closely to the process.

Yep i’m trying to grasp what Jon wants here.

Does he just want us to redistribute the current upgrades under new names? or what?

How much area does the water in this game cover in the playable portions of the map? How viable would it be to get rid of the water(Bubbles is thirsty and drinks it all) and add Guild Halls to those portions of the map?

The underwater area are just amazing looking. Please don’t do this.

Proposal Overview

Empty Guild Map of different theme

Goal of Proposal

Give guild a way to progress at their own pace.

Guild Objectives/activities

Proposal Functionality
Create a new guild research to unlock a plot of land (map). Which opens up a whole new series of guild tree research specifically for that map.


On this new map, have special resources (wood/ore/plants) specific for this map, and only active while in the map.

The map would have the following from the start:

  • Mine
  • Forest
  • Farm Area

Mine
Randomly generated dungeon, nothing fancy. It’s filled with new mining nodes of special resources and monsters. The deeper you go, the harder it gets, but the more resources you get from mining.
The difficulty of the first few level should be fairly easy, so it can be soloable. Going in further would require a party of 5 (or more).

The thing is if you die, you’re kicked out of the mine, and all acquired resources are lost. So you need to calculate the risk/rewards when going in.

Forest
Same mechanic has the mine, but in a forest theme.

Farm
A place to grow plants/stuff required for guild upgrade/building. Maybe you need to feed your workers.

These would need to be watered, every day(within reset limit). If you forget, your plants will rot and die. Maybe one of the things you’ll be able to build eventually is those big watering things you see in Queensdale.

So everything you acquire from the 3 areas above would be resources needed to upgrade and build on your new guild land. Be it pre-determined, grid or free form, which has been mentionned in this thread already.

These ideas would had more depth to taking part of a guild. You’re actually seeing your hard work show up on the map. It also gives another form of activity for the guild to do, and work together as one entity towards a common goal.

As for what could be built/upgraded on this map. I think a lot of ideas have been thrown around.

Will you ever enable Swirling winds to destroy siege projectile again?

It might sound OP, but hear me out.

If Swirling wind can be use as a defensive measure against siege on a wall, what’s different that the elementalist nuking down meteor on people at the gate?

You’re getting nuked by the Ele at the gate, you kill him. So if you’re treb/cata/balista shots aren’t hitting the wall, you’ll kill the ele stopping you, no?

It would just give the defenders an extra tool at defending.

So I just finished running my Exploration event tonight, and twice during the night my commander tag would just vanish.

Everyone was in squad, and we’re chatting, and suddenly I would see in squad chat, where did the commander go? Squad chat was still up, so the squad was still there, but I couldn’t see the tag on my head or the minimap either.

This happened twice tonight, anyone else experienced it?

1. Living Story pacing. This has been greatly improved. The End of season 1 was great. But you’ve surpassed yourself in Season 2. It’s not just story through the living world though, the minor changes like the extra books at the priory library.

Guild Neighbourhoods

Goal of Proposal

Offer a place for Guild(s) to meet-up and do activities together

LOTRO does something similar with Instanced neighbourhoods

Proposal Functionality

Create Neighbourhoods near each of the starting cities, maybe a portal from each city to enter it.

Guilds would choose which Neighbourhood they’d want to join. Each Neighbourhoods would have 1 to N instances, that would be created as they filled up.


What is a Neighbourhood?

  • An Instance zone with different type of buildings available to buy with an added monthly rent cost (to expel inactive players)
  • Each Instance would have 2-4 Guild Castle (for guilds)
  • Each Instance would have 3-6 Big Houses (for groups of friends wanting to share a house)
  • Each Instance would have 5-10 Regular sized houses (for single player)
  • Each Instance has an area with different commodities, and also a Neighbourhood billboard, to schedule events with your own neighbourhood.
  • Each Instance has a place to view/play/start the different activities (Keg Brawl, Sprint, Survival) with other players of the neighbourhood.

What’s the benefit of having Neighbourhoods instead of an instanced guild hall for every guild? The Neighbourhoods will create small communities of players.

Associated Risks
Trying to get everyone in the same Neighbourhood, be it guild members, or allied guilds.

I was going to put less players in regular cities, but you’d have these smaller communities that would spawn out of this.

Guild Land with member housing and activities

Goal of Proposal
Offer a new Guild Upgrade to unlock Guild Land.
Once unlock

  • Offer different Size of lands you can research (for different guild size/budget)
  • Offer Different Type of lands, so we get the feeling we have our own.

Proposal Functionality
Create a new Category for Guild Land upgrades
Using Guild Merits and Influence, the guild unlocks Guild Land (Level I).
Once unlocked, you can research one of three size of land (You can upgrade to the bigger map by paying cost-smaller map cost)


  • Big – Size of a full map
  • Normal – Half the Size
  • Small – Quarter of the Size

Once the new map becomes active, the guild leader has the option to select a “theme” out of a few, once he does, the map is generated.

A new map grants the guild a map instance with their own Castle/Manor/Estate. A new button is available from the guild menu to teleport to this map.


  • Should be customizable with stuff you were able to achieve as a guild (new type of achievements)
  • Able to research commodities like crafting, guild bank, vendors, etc.
  • Security on a granualar level
  • Allied guilds can be invited to the map

Guild Land (Level 2)

  • Unlock Land Lot 1-25 (small)
  • Unlock Land Lot 26-50(small)
  • Unlock Land Lot 51-150(Medium)
  • Unlock Land Lot 151-250 (Large)

These land lots would be use by guild members to build pre-determined house from a list. These houses would be paid/built using guild commendation. Why? Well it shows they’ve been active with the guild, doing missions and such for a while. These houses would also have a monthly rent, something cheap, like 1g per month. That 1g would go towards the guild treasury, and it’s also a nice system to see if players become inactive. If you haven’t paid after a second month, the house is vacated/destroyed. Items are sent via mail in a bag to the old owner of the house, and someone else can take that plot of land.


  • Should be customizable, able to show titles in form of trophies or objects inside your house.
  • Using a mix of guild commendation and Laurels, you should be able to unlock your own Waypoint(added to the hero panel), Personal Bank, and show the crafting tables of your active profession.
  • You should be able to set permission on who can enter your house and also different options for more granular security.

Guild Land (Level 3)

  • Unlock Guild Keg Brawl
  • Unlock Guild Sanctum Sprint
  • Unlock Guild Southsun Survival
  • Unlock Guild Crab Toss

Right now activities can’t be played as a group, but what if Guilds could start them. Not only start them, but if you research them, they’d be available in your map instance, for all(guild members) to see?
Imagine having keg brawl tournaments, with those not playing, watching the game from the side.

  • Create team before starting the activities
  • Only start when everyone is ready
  • Schedule activities/tournaments on the new guild Calendar

We could even push this further, instead of having to use guild Commendation and other currency to build houses. What if there was a forest, a mine, some farms, and you’d need to gather stuff, bring them back to the castle to be processed, and then it could be use to build houses and such? Make the guild work for their stuff, as a team.

What if we have an (infinite) dungeon inside this instance, so the guild can go deeper and deeper as a team and gather rare minerals for more stuff within their guild instance.

Associated Risks
Number one risk for Guild Halls and all of the above, is that it will move a big portion of the population to these instances.

I went over real quick the 14 page, and just wanted to add my flavor of the Calendar

Proposal Overview
Guild Calendar

Goal of Proposal
Add a quick an easy way for members to see what the guild has planned

Proposal Functionality

  • Add rank options to ADD, Modify, Delete calendar events.
  • Add a Calendar Tab in the guild menu.
  • Add option to signup for an Event and be reminded X time before.

Creating an Event should have the following information

  • Title
  • Date/Time start
  • Repeatable event — Selection of days, Weekly, Monthly
  • Repeatable until — Number of occurence or date end
  • Map (used to filter the list of WP)
  • Waypoint (based on map selection so we don’t get hundreds of WP)
  • Detailed Description

Associated Risks
Requires a new UI for Calendars, and some backend stuff to store all this information


And i’ll add this to the guild banner functionality.

Give a secondary use to banners researched through influence(guild upgrades)

  • Have a place to add a description of your guild
    When someone interacts with the banner,
  • Give them the banner buff
  • Show them the guild description
  • Give them a Description to join the guild

When someone clicks to join a guild

  • Add them to the roster list, under a special rank. (Like we see INVITED player name, in the guild list)
  • Make that rank visible to only those with the recruiting rank option
  • This gives us a way to send a PM to the player

Nah, time stamps haven’t changed. Would be an easy update to do later though.

i posted this on the Game Discussion forums, but I thought you guys might like it.

To that end, we’re introducing a completely new browser engine into the game.

Could we get lore books through that interface?
We’ve seen the writers saying that they’re limited by the dialog UI for the stories they can add in the game. But if they can get an interface for somethings like books, so that when we go to the Priory Library we could read an entire book by scrolling and not clicking to see the next two lines, that could be pretty amazing, no?

The intent of the Renown Heart system was originally to help players find event content. They also provide a decent method for us to give the player some context and awareness of what’s going on in the area. There are probably a few issues in that design which we could discuss. We could also let it suffice to say that hearts do not make the best repeatable content the game has to offer.

On the topic of keeping players engaged with open world content, I think this goal may be for more approachable from a different angle. Consider Dry Top, which has no hearts. Players on that map are participating in events all the time, largely on the premise that each event contributes to both map-level and personal-level goals. This gives me the notion that with a little help at the system level, events can and should be the bulk of repeatable open world content in Tyria.

I’d be very interested in hearing your thoughts on that.

Here’s my thought

Dry Top Event Structure
PRO

  • High replayability due to rewards(geodes, dust)
  • Zerg splitter, so it doesn’t feel like just a glob of people going from event to event
  • Each event has some nice mechanics
  • The Flow of the map is really great.

CON

  • Lacking story/depth surrounding the events, compared to the Events in other zones. There’s no followups or lead to the events, since everything is on a timer
  • Everything is on a timer, so you don ’t get the feeling of wandering around and stuff will happen. In Dry Top you know exactly when something will happen.

As far as the story/depth is concerned, the added 3 priory members that are travelling the map as we are do cover a pretty big part of this, so I can look over it. But there’s no event chaining, following an NPC starting an event, helping him out, he goes away triggering something else.

Why is Dry Top better for this? Well, you need Geodes for lots of recipes and skins. So you have to play those events.

If you went back into old zones, added a bunch more dynamic events, added map-specific progression, and gave map-specific rewards, I bet you’d see a lot more players in those zones as well.

The trick is that the rewards need to be 1) exclusive or 2) comparable in gold value to other forms of content. And if #2 is economy-breaking, you NEED #1.

Just my two cents.

You bring up a good point, if every map (or region) had there own geode like currency, and that with it we could trade them in for stuff even level 80 could use. It would make going back to old zone and doing events even more fun.

Forgeman Destroyers have been around since the beta days of Guildwars 2, we’ve been growing our numbers ever since. Merging smaller guilds with us, creating Alliances with bigger guilds. Although still considered fairly small, we are like a family, everyone is close and helpful.

Join us on mumble, and come talk a bit with us, that’s the best way to see if this guild will “click” with you.

We do PVE, Dungeons, Fractals, WvW, some PVP, and love talking about story and lore. If this is the type of stuff you like to do, this guild is for you.

Most of us have families, so we’re usually on at around 9 pm EST

We’re celebrating the 2nd anniversary of our guild soon and I just thought it would be nice if Guild could create instances of Activity, for their own guild.

Make them an unlockable with influence, but give us the option of triggering Keg Brawl for the guild, or Sanctum Sprint, or..dare I say, Crab Toss?

I think it would add to the fun activities available as a guild.

I would love something like this for the Sanctum of Rall server! I don’t think you can play with others cross server can you?

You can either Guest to Sorrow Furnace, or just send me a whisper once you’re in the map and I can Taxi you to our map instance.

Since the mega Servers, they’ve made it quite easy to play together.
