Rune of the Gatherer

Eerekai.9438

Ello there!

So my suggestion is for a new runeset called The Gatherer. The main point is to increase gathering-node detection range and possibly something else related to gathering. I’m thinking it’d look something like this:

(1)
(2) Increase gathering-node detection range by 5%
(3)
(4) Increase gathering-node detection range by 10%
(5)
(6) Always get an additional use from a gathering-node.
or
(6) +5% chance of getting non-standard items from gathering-nodes.
or
(6) +10% of summoning a Skritt Forager whenever a gathering-node is used.

An 5% increase in getting non-standard items from a node (like gems from ore nodes, unidentified dyes, passiflora flowers from passion fruit, or stash bags from trees) might be a bit too much.
Another guaranteed use from the node would be awesome and increase chances at a non-standard item simply by giving the player another chance to gather.
The Skritt Forager…heheh…it just seems to fit to me.

I didn’t bother with the odd numbered runes in the set because…magic-find seems to be the most obvious, but feedback might show otherwise (hint hint).

Thoughts? Feelings?

I won’t lie. If you’re not in one of the starter maps, Cursed Shore, Lion’s Arch, WvW, or possibly Southsun Cove during prime-time, map-chat/communications tend to be non-existent. Even then, there’s a mix of trolls and miscreants that will attempt to snub any actual conversation. Even being in a guild doesn’t really fix the problem since many of them use some form of voice-communication and forget that they have people in guild-chat wanting to talk.

My best advice is to try and spark conversations or run a lot of dungeons/fractals. People tend to be more talkative when they’re in a group with you. Its still not a guaranteed thing though.

Between cooking and artificing, ArenaNet has had more than enough chances to add health potions if they wanted to. Instead there are heals and damage mitigation built into weapon skills, heal skills, utilities, elites, traits, runes, and sigils. If you’re having healing issues, then tweak your build.

Concept Profession: Mimic

Eerekai.9438

Omg Eerekai nice; lets try discuss this further.

  • Clipping issues with armour: I think these parts you changed with your mimics aren’t covered with armour. Animals don’t wear armour either. That brings following question: Should the mimic wear armour?!
There are different aspects to this:
    - Stats: mimics definitely need something in those slots, cause we need to have options to change stats. What about “patterns”? Instead of armour you wear a specific pattern, that has it’s own stats and you can also upgrade them with runes & jewels.
    - No armour at all, or only the parts you can change?
As it stands now: we can change our head, our legs and torso… I think we shouldn’t change torso, but change the arms. Those parts can transform, without clipping with the other armour parts: shoulders & torso.
That is also a decision to be made.

I think armor in all slots is a must. Its a balancing/mechanics/fairness thing. All professions, regardless of playstyle, have 6 pieces of armor, a main-hand/off-hand or two-handed weapon set-up, and 6 trinket slots. It makes it so everyone can be built the same way and everyone goes through the same work to get their full set of gear.

  • Heals/utilies: attributes associated with the creatures you mimic?
Example: Dolyak’s resilience: gain extra health for a short period of time, making you able to hold out a little longer.
I think you could some more of these.

This would be awesome. I can definitely see basing all the skills off of creatures that can be mimicked.

  • I like the idea for only being able to mimic a creature, after you’ve killed it. It’s genius.

Just to clarify a little, this would be specifically for F1-F3 skills, not the heals and utilities. Getting a useful mimic would be a bit difficult if everything had to be obtained by killing stuff.

Now I could see there being SOME traits buffing X skill(s) if you have “Mimic X” learned (once again, that way you could play a “naked” Mimic and still be functional). Like uh…
Skill: Jungle Troll Jab ~ physical attack that poisons target for 5 seconds.
Trait: Noxious Nature ~ increases poison damage/duration. Requires Shadow Imp study.
or…
Skill: Gust ~ produces a large blast of wind to damage and knockdown/knockback the target. (mimicking harpies)
Trait: Demonic Fervor ~ Gust does increased damage and has a 20% chance to cause bleeding. Requires Fleshreaver study.

It’d be a very interesting style of play. Definitely not for everyone, but I can see it being extremely versatile and fitting perfectly with GW2.

I’m not gonna lie, Mimes were my favorite class in Final Fantasy Tactics. So many ideas, so much randomness. This isn’t the same thing obviously (well…obvious if you’ve ever used a Mime in Final Fantasy Tactics), but I like the idea nevertheless. A few concerns though…

  • Mimicry can NOT be tied to any extreme visualization on your character. Example: You don’t get feathers for mimicking a bird, scales for a lizard, etc. Not only would this screw with a player’s outfit in a way they might not like (not to mention clipping), but no profession in the game has visual tells that might warn another player of their abilities (I’m talkin’ PvP/WvW).
  • Would abilities be stowed in the same way rangers have pet lists? I could see a special class-specific menu, much like how rangers get a pet menu, used to tweak Head/Torso/Leg association.
  • Heal/Utility, Each profession has a mix of roughly 20 utilities broken into sets (Warriors get stances, shouts, banners, signets, and physical attacks). I’m not quite sure what type of sets the Mimic would have, but figured I’d mention it to get some ideas going.
  • While I like the idea of giving juveniles more use, there are a number of creatures in the game that could be mimicked, but aren’t tameable. Since the idea behind the Mimic is that (s)he studies the combat abilities of a creature, defeating 1 might be a more suitable approach instead of a simple key-stroke. Or, in certain cases, doing an event.

“But Eerekai, there’s a LOT of juvenile creatures to mimic!” Yeah, there are, but the tonics redrex is referring to cover a wide variety of creatures, a good chunk not tameable. But for the sake of argument, lets get a list of non-tameable creatures

  1. Minotaurs
  2. Imps
  3. Riders (Wind Rider, Reef Rider, Irukandji [from Fractals], and possibly Steamrider)
  4. Ooze
  5. Bats
  6. Harpies and Fleashreavers
  7. Raptors
  8. Griffons
  9. Colocal
  10. Dolyaks
  11. Skales
  12. Skelks
  13. Cows/Bulls
  14. Sea Turtles
  15. Barracuda
  16. Crabs
  17. Deer/Sheep/Rams
  18. Husks and Steam Hulks/Ogres
  19. Trolls
  20. Thunder Shrimp
  21. Cavern Scutter
  22. Pinipal

A lot of possibilities xD

Chests will get nerfed

I don’t have any charts, only what I remember.

Pre-Patch / Economy Effect

  • “Reach of Zhaitan” had climbed to around 16g
  • Ectos were selling around 32s-37s
  • There were people in Orr and around different maps doing the big events regularly, not religiously
  • Dungeons paid out a tiny amount of cash upon completion and the risk vs reward didn’t match the market

Post-Patch / Economy Effect

  • Bought “Reach of Zhaitan” for 1g 80s yesterday
  • I think Ectos are selling around 25s-28s. I’m crafting more and selling less
  • Very few people mention there’s a website that has event timers. Why bother? Someone on the map already has the time, just ask.
  • There seems to be a train running through Orr regularly. A tour of Orr used to be an exciting thing. I’m waiting for perfectly-spaced Road Markers for speed buffs…
  • Dungeons are paying out more funds to go with what the economy used to be, not what it is now.

The spark in rares and slight spark in exotics was fun. As far as guests not being able to get chests…I think that’s a cruel way to punish people using the system for the intended reason. (Before someone jumps on me, it is called becoming a “Guest”, not a “Loot-Monkey” or even a more respectable “Treasure Hunter”. I wonder what the intentions were…) I think a better solution would be diminishing returns.

  • 1 rare on the first chest from that event with the possibility of an exotic.
  • Second chest of the day, regardless of character or server, gives a CHANCE of a rare, and maybe an even lower chance of an exotic.

When running a dungeon, there’s full rewards for the 1st completion of a path on that day. Doesn’t matter what server you’re on or what character you’re on. So there’s only one “path” or “course of action” for an event. There’s enough of them that it isn’t a problem.

There are some definite pros and cons to the what the patch has done, but some of the cons need serious rectifying.

This was fun the first few days…but it’s not a party if it happens every night.

Guilds as Third-party Trading Channel

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Eerekai.9438

Eerekai.9438

Trust issues and scamming aside, this would only work on a small scale. Currently guild mechanics limit this in a combination of ways.

  • Guild progress does not carry across servers.
So say you’re in a guild on server A and someone else joins your guild on server B. Server B guild doesn’t have a guild bank because the progress doesn’t carry over. And even if it does, I’m unsure if that bank would contain the same items. (I highly doubt it)
  • Guesting earns influence for and uses the guild of the home server, not the guest server. So even if two people were to guest onto your server to make a transaction, they’d be using their home server’s version of your guild (the undeveloped guild), and not your server’s version of your guild.

All in all, it limits the amount of business and profit such an endeavor could reel in. Combine that with general distrust and you have to ask yourself if its worth the trouble to supply such services.

The new AC...

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Eerekai.9438

Spider Queen
Standing still, not paying attention, and staying too close tend to get you killed. I can deal with that.

  • Why do the tiny spiders hit so hard? Tone it down. They all drop at the same time, roughly 75% of them attack at the same time, and they usually target the first 2 people to engage, who tend to die shortly after.

Cave Troll
He fights more like Kholer: one major attack to dodge. Plus he’s more susceptible to damage and there’s less running in circles. A better fight all around. Nice changes. No complaints here.

Kholer

  • It seems that most of the doors surrounding Kholer’s area are closed until he’s dead. GOOD
  • I used to walk up the stairs, then hide from his scorpion wire. It was the first attack he did. It was unforgiving and disorienting for the new player, especially when it would likely kill them. It was just irritating to more experienced players. Thank you for changing that.
  • The extra mobs are fun. Adds more teamwork to the fight. And well, the team is there, so might as well utilize em.

Kholer vs Troll
I’ve always had an issue with this. The first time I saw them fight, I was amazed for like 10 seconds. If it weren’t for it seeming stupidly clever, tricking a giant troll to attack a powerful ghost, I’d be completely against it.

That Graveling-Focused Chunk
So it doesn’t matter if its shutting down burrows or stopping a Charr from getting torn apart, this may need to get toned down. The main issue is the knocks. I’ll address this later.

Howling King
Its a more interesting fight. The howl is a more visible thing. This is a major improvement. I have a love-hate relationship with the fires, but they aren’t the problem. Once again, the knocks.

Ghost Eater
This is probably my favorite fight in the game right now. A new gimmick, important tooltips, and even a good reason to control critter spawning. But…

  • Detha breaks periodically. And the quick-fix? You get her killed by critters in the previous room. Lets say your team has killed everything in your path and she bugs out. The team is punished for being thorough? I don’t know why its still a bug, but a NPC breaking at the last boss is a game-breaking, progress-stopping issue, that gives risk vs reward new depth. Even choosing path 2 is the risk.
  • The boss is mostly a ranged attacker. This makes some form of aggro control or manipulation more important. Why not a new attack on the gun for a high-powered blast to knock the boss. Add a temporary knock-resist buff after he’s been hit to avoid abuse. Allow more teamwork to happen.

Colossus Rumblus
Interesting changes. Not sure if they were necessary, but interesting. I like where this is going. Though the fight is currently won via luck or exploitation; not skill.

  • The Warmaster’s protective bubbles are a great mechanic…when they work. Sometimes the Warmaster forgets to use his bubble because he’s attacking, he’s been knocked down, or he’s dead.
Not to mention the Warmaster is a ghost and Tzark is a necromancer ~ can’t Tzark do some sort of spell that keeps him out of the fight, but keeps the Warmaster “alive”? Something needs to be done so this is more approachable.

Old Issues

  • Gravelings and knocks. First, the Priory, who have been dealing with the gravelings, should warn players that gravelings love knocking people down and mauling them to death, but even then, there’s just too many knocks. The number of times a player gets knocked, even with factoring in a stability skill, is insane. Stability skills have a longer cooldown than a single graveling’s knock, and we fight hoards.
  • The biggest issue all dungeons is scaling. A Hard Mode is not necessary. AC Exp is recommended for level 35 characters. The experience should be catered, from the ground up, to a band of fresh level 35 characters. This means they might have elites, they probably won’t have a lot of trinkets (if any), and they might have a few pieces of rare gear. And I’m not saying that just QA or an in-house team doing the dungeon together will suffice. ArenaNet, you have an entire player-base at your disposal. Having QA organize AC runs with various players, both experienced and new, is a great way to get feedback AND get involved. Advertise these events, connect with the players, share results openly. And if possible scaling should be something that changes based on the people in the party and their levels, maybe even their gear. If three 80s, a 65, and a 35 run AC right now, I’m willing to bet the 80s may have some trouble, the 65 will have even more, and the 35 will have an intimate relationship with the ground.

All in all, great changes have been made that reinforce teamwork, game mechanics, thinking, and actually doing content instead of skipping it. There’s still plenty of bugs and issues that cheapen these changes or, in more severe cases, make them nothing more than good ideas and NOT good content.

Transmutation Item Names

in Suggestions

Posted by: Eerekai.9438

Eerekai.9438

So I noticed that when you transmute two pieces of armor, it keeps the NAME of the visual item. Example?
-Harlequin Mask (Item 1)
-Winged Hood or whatever (Item 2)

If you use the visual of Item 1 and the stats of Item 2, it keeps the name of item 1.

But for weapons…
-Carrion Pearl Sabre (Item 1)
-Rusttooth (Item 2)

If you use the stats of item 1 and the visual of item 2, it’ll keep the name of item 1. Completely opposite of armor.

Suggestion: Instead of make one like the other, why not open up the option to allow players to pick the name during a Transmute? Once transmuted, the item is bound anyway, so it really is just something for the individual player.

Aside from that, I love the idea. I’ve found high drops while adventuring as my mesmer tons of times, just so I could cause a chaos-storm on impact. I don’t know if giving each weapon different falling skills would be…sane? That’s a LOT more skill to cover in a highly situational setting. I do think it’d be good to give each profession a set of skills, just like each profession has downed-state skills.

This has been brought up before. There was one instance where the original poster (OP) commented that they would not participate in WvW because they knew their presence kept someone else that wanted to fight from being there. Or, if they did participate in WvW, they would strive to avoid all conflict, going to extreme lengths to avoid combat. They’d rather die while running than inflict a single point of damage on another player.

My response? I made a new character, got all of the WvW completion done, and messaged him the results. WvW is roughly 8% of world completion. He figured he’d be done with world completion when he hit 92%, what he was comfortable with doing.

So the question is…what do you want? An achievement? A legendary? Or personal completion?

Its pointed out that the Pale Tree controls what the Sylvari are informed of from the Dream. People, places, events, other wyld hunts, and even the existence of other pale trees: these are all introduced to Sylvari in the real world. They aren’t privy to all of the dream.

Isn’t it possible that the Soundless haven’t perfected any training whatsoever? That the Pale Tree simply respects the wishes of her children and has thus given them the silence they wanted?

Silvari immune to Zhaitan?

Sylvari may be immune to Zhaitan, but they are the only ones vulnerable to nightmare corruptions…

I disagree here. There’s an event in Caledon Forest where the mosshearts are at risk of being corrupted by the Nightmare Court. This isn’t just a psychological torment, but they are visibly tainted. This makes me think the oakhearts and mosshearts are attached to the Pale Tree in some way, since the sylvan hounds can also be corrupted and, according to the wiki, are created by the Pale Tree.

The asura have offered to experiment on the sylvari and determine why they appear immune to corruption, but so far no one has volunteered.

The Soundless would be perfect for this! They aren’t Nightmare Court or normal Grove Sylvari, so there isn’t any risk of experimentation hurting the dream! This of course is assuming they are actually disconnected from the dream… :P

2 theories on the sylvari

in Lore

Posted by: Eerekai.9438

Eerekai.9438

So after reading over the lore again, and oddly, after giving “Fear Not This Night” a listen, I have a slightly different take it.
I think defense is a strong reason for creation (one I’ll touch on more) but I think Honor and Respect are a important reason for the Sylvari from The Grove. I’ll also take a stab as reproduction.

Main: Its never explained when the Pale Tree of The Grove gained sentience. It is noted that she knows who Ventari is and understands the teachings. (Hell, Ventari is IN THE DREAM during the Sylvari introduction, as a centaur I might add. The Pale Tree completely grasps who he was.) Who you don’t see is Ronan. Ronan isn’t even mentioned (at least not that I know of.) We don’t know if the Pale Tree knows who Ronan is or is aware that she was planted atop the graves of his family. Or better yet, whether or not the latter is of any importance.

What is known is that the dragons started appearing and causing havoc. From races prepping for war to simple migration, I think the Sylvari were summoned as a presence to protect Ventari’s grave, as well as protect, preserve, and honor the gift of life and of his teachings. With the Asura to the west, and the Quaggan, Hylek, Krait, Trolls, and even Tengu to the north, there was reason to protect the territory. Whats more, several of the first born were given a Wyld Hunt related to Orr itself, so the Pale Tree of The Grove was well aware of the disturbances which would prompt protection (the Sylvari) from threats coming from the south of The Grove.
Side Note: We can assume if the Pale Tree of The Grove is aware of her surroundings, especially Orr, then we can assume other “pale trees” are also aware. This would prompt them releasing Sylvari into the world and, hopefully, into action. After listening to the song “Fear Not This Night”, one wonders if this is meant as a song the Pale Tree actually sings to the Sylvari. It would explain the compassion and openness which the Sylvari of The Grove possess, in comparison with the cautious nature of non-Grove Sylvari.

Defense: As previously stated, defense (or survival) is a strong reason for a Sylvari presence. The Pale Tree of The Grove, as well as other “pale trees”, started generated Sylvari most likely in response to the dragons. The bit I mentioned about Ventari and his teachings is specific to The Grove.

Reproduction: As I see it, reproduction among the Sylvari of The Grove does not serve a purpose, thus it isn’t possible. I can only assume that a sexual connection would provide a deeper link among the parties involved: the Sylvari and the Pale Tree. What hasn’t been touched on is whether or not reproduction is possible among the Grove Sylvari and non-Grove Sylvari. If my hypothetical link exists, such a coupling would result in the possibility for two Pale Trees to tap into each others’ “Dreams”, thus combining and expanding the entire well of knowledge and experience. This would also make offspring from two different Sylvari (Grove and non-Grove) able to be given information from two separate “Dreams”.

Well that’s all I got for this post. If you made it here legitimately, congratulations! You’re done! ^-^

About 30% of the time, the player is still there when we get there. 15% of the time, they actually wait for us to rez them once we’re in the area. My buddy refuses to stop for anyone anymore. I can’t really blame him.

I love the idea of having an equipment slot for the mini.
-Throw desired mini in slot
-Have slot with a “visible/not visible” check-box
-In the collections, have all collected minis listed
-Scrolling over a mini in the collections displays the character that has said mini.

The running speed thing is also a bit weird. I shouldn’t have to keep slowing down so mini-golem can catch up >.>
