There is one thing I thought about that might give ranger an edge if true. It’s possible that endurance regeneration will still be capped at 100% and Vigor will only go to 50%. This would mean that the 20% endurance regeneration trait might trigger on top of Vigor to a 70% increased Endurance regeneration.

Definitely something worth testing once the patch hits.

I’m not sure if it ever changed, but the last time I tested it on Ranger Shouts rune of the trooper had no effects on allies. Only on the ranger and the pet.

Stuff like the 2.5 second duration on Flame Trap annoy me. If the enemy doesn’t already have damaging conditions on him when he triggers the trap it’ll be the same as 2 second burning duration.

I wonder if they change the endurance regeneration cap. Currently it’s 100%, which is reached by vigor. If they reduce vigor to 50% it’s possible that other effects (like the warrior signet or rangers 20% trait) will have an additional effect to the vigor boosting endurance regeneration further.

This is a really great post.

The only new thing I’m actually a bit excited about is quick draw. The spirit changes are absolutely horrible, traps seem really bad too. I’m still not sure what they are thinking with Light on your Feet, it makes such a marginal difference, it’s pretty much the opposite what a grandmaster trait should be.

I get the feeling that they aren’t actually testing many of their changes against players that are actually capable to play the game on a high level. Projectiles have enough disadvantages already, it’d be okay to make some of them actually strong.

Why Ele and Engi need those buffs is beyond me anyway.

My only problem with Hidden Barbs is that it’s contested in the same spot with spotter, which would also have a great synergy with Sharpened Edges. I don’t really have a problem with trait lines having traits that synergize well with each other. ANet is clearly going for this stuff. Refined Toxins is pretty good as it is though, but I wouldn’t complain about a poison master merge, as poison master is in a pretty stupid grandmaster spot.

You also need to keep in mind that ranger has a trait that gives him 10% more damage for having full endurance. I really don’t get what they are going for with LOYF.

I didn’t record it on video, the only record I have left is the notes I made when I counted the crits. I used a online tally counter where I could bind hotkeys to increasing one of the 2 numbers.

I basically copied this text now from a post I made in the bug forum about it.

I ran a test where I attacked a golem in PvP and counted the number of crits and non-crits my pet did. During this test I had no Fury on my pet at any time. I tested it with 2 different pets, a Jaguar (which has a base precision of 2061 or 58.02% critical strike chance) and a Pig (base precision of 1030 or 8.95% critical strike chance).

Both times the pets had both Spotter (+150 precision) and a bonus of 300 precision through going 6 points into the Beastmastery trait line. This should have increased the crit chance for both pets by 21%. I made sure that my pets had the spotter effect on them all the time during the test.

For the Jaguar I counted Crits : 243 and Non-Crits : 172 which would suggest a crit chance of 243/415 or 58.55% and not a crit chance of around 80% which would be in line with the precision the pet had. For the pig I stopped after 4 Crits and 50 Non Crits.

The outcome suggests that the trait bonus and spotter have no effect on the actual crit chance a pet has. I’d love if some people here could run the same tests themselves to verify it and also test out the effects raising some of the other stats have on pets. I suspect we might find a lot more bugged the closer we look.

As a side note, Fury does seem to raise a pets critical chance.

Ranger Longbow skills are broken

It’s been like that for a while, but I couldn’t find any posts about it. All ranger longbow skills go on full cooldown when they are interrupted for any reason, even though they didn’t have any effect at all. One can easily reproduce this by switching a weapon directly after activating a skill or using the ESC key to cancel the skill. They would usually be supposed to go on a shorter cooldown, but this seems to have been changed when the longbow skills were buffed a few patches ago.

Removing white swords from objectives to give defenders a stronger role in alerting their team as well as giving attackers more of a chance to get through having their siege disabled.

I am someone that often runs around alone and tries to capture towers alone with a single guild catapult (I succeed very often with that). While this change would be perfect to me, it would make WvW in general much worse. It’s already not fun having to scout inside a tower. Most servers that are not in absolute high tier can’t afford to have scouts all around and need to rely on those white swords.

Something like this would could only work if you add something like a beacon trap, that is cheap and when activated gives a signal on the map at the point where it was activated. Removing the white swords would make the current game much worse, as you can flip towers very fast as it is right now anyways.

Siege Troll Discussion

This is a great topic!

I don’t have a good solution for the problem actually, but I will put together a few points that I think are important to consider when designing such a system.

1. The system should prevent or at least slow down people who only have the intent to use supply and build siege to be detrimental to the server. This explains itself.

2. The system should not be a major hindrance for players trying to play the game normally. For example: Sometimes you are the only one building defense at a gate, and such an exhaustion system would be very annoying for you. The system would also be very annoying for commanders, who always throw their own siege.

3. The system should not be abuseable by a few who want to be detrimental for their server. For example one could think of a system, where you can “report” players and after a certain number of reports the player loses the ability to place siege. This could be abused against commanders or just other players people don’t like.

4. The system should not be trivial to circumvent. For example a system could give exhaustion to players that place siege directly next to the supply storage. Players could just run away a bit away to still playce their siege.

So in the end we have to answer, How can we mechanically differ between a troll and someone who only wants to help their server? This is a pretty tough question to answer, especially as trolls will always find ways to circumvent or abuse new systems.

What about switching Healing Spring to Troll Ungent? Although you lose that really nice water field for 5 seconds faster CD. Just curious.

I wouldn’t do that unless you want to lose all Condition Removal aside from the Elite with a 3+ min cooldown. The build in general looks vulnerable against conditions, but I’m sure it’s still very usefull in the hands of a skilled player.

Wow reading the actual post seems to be way to hard for some people here. I guess just spitting out the same 3 lines you hear in every discussion about the ranger in dungeons ad nauseam is much easier than actually understanding the point. As of now there is no constellation of 4 people in a dungeon where a ranger on 5th position would be the optimal choice for the groups dps, since an ele would always be better, even when ignoring the additional utility the ele brings with more FGS and Ice Bow. That’s because ranger DPS is so bad, that the boost of Spotter+FS is not strong enough to actually boost the groups more than the personal DPS an Ele would bring.

With all the problems the ranger class right now has in PvE, WvW and to a lesser extent in sPvP (they are still currently not that good there) ANet should really completely overhaul the class.

On the other hand, looking at the numbers provided ranger could actually even get viable for the group DPS if the ele DPS get a considerable nerf. Ice Bow and FGS are currently too much of a gamebreaker, making the difference between Ele and other classes ridiculous.

Yeah, costume brawl had such a large community when it came out, but A-Net has been ignoring the balance issues, and instead just released new power creep with the new living story stuff. It’s really a shame, costume brawl was such a unique way of playing when it came out.

Well since PvE, WvW and sPvP now all got their attention, it’s time that costume brawl is tackled. Why isn’t there a seperate costume brawl dev team? Where are the costume brawl sub forums? Why where there never streams regarding costume brawl? Why is costume brawl so pay to win? If A-Net acts fast, I predict that costume brawl really has a chance to lift off as an E-Sport, the framework is there, but the community for competive costume brawl (CCCB) needs some serious love right now.

Add a Trainer to the Royal Terrace

I bought the Royal Terrace Pass today, and convinced many in my guild to do the same. It really is a pretty awesome place, and a great example for a convenience item. However I have to say, I feel that a trainer (the NPC where you can buy skill books and reset your traits) is missing from the area. As someone who resets his traits pretty often, I think a trainer would be a great addition to the NPCs in there, while not making it too crowded.

It’s just a tiny thing, but I and many others would greatly appreciate it. I don’t even think there are any other NPCs missing there, basically every commonly used NPC is already there, except a trainer.

Are Skilllags hitting matchups differently?

As most of you already know, WvW right now is just an Auto-Attack spamfest. It’s ridiculous. You can’t go anywhere without having a long delay with your skill. Skill lags were there before, but they appeared when maybe 150+ people were in a fight. Now we saw them when 30vs30 were fighting, and no other attacksymbol was on the whole map.

Since I personally play in the silver league AM vs Gandara vs Deso, I can’t say much about the other matchups. Watching gold league stream, it actually looked for me, that there are LESS lags in the gold league, some friends of mine with secondary accounts in the gold league are also confirming this. They say, they have significantly less skill lags while fighting with much larger numbers.

It makes WvW absolutely unplayable for any group that is not a huge zerg, that can kill everything in their way by spamming auto attacks. My guild that hat WvW Raids every day decided to stop running together organized, until those problems are at least reduced. It stops being possible to show any skill, when you can’t use your skills.

The added meta achievements will draw a huge part of the PvE population into WvW, so that will be an advantage for servers that already have a very high population. This is why I think AM will not win Silver League. The server is middle to high population, while servers like desolation or aurora glade will get a much much greater boost in players. I think for this reason that one of the “Very High” pop servers will win in the end, Aba will maybe get to 3rd place

too bad we do 2 even fight against lns one we was sleeping and they killed us,the other one we killed them and after that they simply blobbed with a lot of pug for the rest of the evening.

Yeah, I hope to see you more often, we had some good fights. The second time you fought us, we were actually sleeping, because a good portion of us, was changing a few Teamspeak settings.

And I have to agree, that we later had a big amount of pug players running with us, this was basically, because we had no commander on the Borderland for the whole evening, so they started running towards the orange crosses on the map, that we made with >25 people from LNS. Porting away wasn’t really an option since they found us again pretty fast anyway, and we seriously won’t discourage them from running with us, even if we don’t like it (which seems to be a difference in the Attitude of servers or at least guilds, at least I heard about many times players were insulted for running with guild groups on other servers)

I really liked when we fought at the island between FS and Gand Spawn Towers. You got us pretty good, when you jumped down the ledge, the reason we won that one was a numbers game, I am not sure how it would have ended with even numbers.

As a player of AM I have to say I am really sorry.

Reading this forum thread made me realize just how much better Far Shiverpeaks and Gandara are playing. Every player of them is literally a superior player to any of ours, and because of that we had no chance in this matchup. I mean last week we were in paradise where we only had to stand our ground against Baruch Bay, that basically had no players anywhere for the whole day, and Augury Rock which had no good players at all. But now, after we showed that we could take a fight with those lousy T3 servers we had the bad luck to be matched against you in T5. Since T5 is so much harder than T3 (5>3 after all) we now have to realize that we don’t stand a chance against you.

So I have to say, I am sorry. Sorry that our bad play, that is dissapointing for you that so many people have to complain about it here. Sorry if our inability to understand the basic mechanics of WvW leads you to be ashamed of having to play against a server as low as we are. Maybe one day we will get it. One day we will learn to play like you, and show that we are ready for T5. Maybe one day we will finally be able to compete with you, maybe sometime the day will come, that someone of us will be able to win a 1vs1 fight against one of you mighty and honourful wariors. Until this day we will have to. As you all said, we just have to realize, that we should all run in small guild groups, and stop encouraging our normal PvE playerbase to play WvW. But you manage to fight against the server with medium population, that outnumbers your super professional organized small guild groups, that are so much stronger then anything we have ever seen anywhere, especially not on Baruch or Augury, where you only find some random blob guilds like Bull or Red Guard. So I beg for your forgiveness, and please teach me how you manage to stomp us so hard as you do
