Thieves I know: Great. Awesome. Good DPS and make running through mobs 100% easier.

Thieves I don’t know: 95% chance they’re more of a liability than an asset.

Here is my thief roaming stream in eb (3,5 hours without edits), I die a lot of times. I just don’t think people are interested in a thief video with a lot of deaths. What i tend to do is just cut the video where the most action is and jump straight to next. Kill after kill.

we all see the permastealthing before our eyes. first it was “permastealth is impossible.” then when proven wrong it was “well it’s useless.” then when proven wrong it was “well no one does it but noob thieves.” Now it’s “well you can counter it..”

I can’t believe after like 1 week you’re still crying about the same thing, can’t you realise that perma-stealth thieves can’t burst? And if you’re smart enough, it’s easy to break their “perma-stealth”, I already told you how but seems like your mind keeps resetting each time you lose an argument.

I don’t see how “perma-stealth thieves can’t burst” is a cogent counterpoint. Lots of builds can’t burst — that doesn’t mean they can’t kill.

I know what to do with refuge, but I don’t have infinite AoEs (unless I’m on my GS warrior) or AoE knockbacks.

He could have easily gotten away after the first refuge then repeatedly came out of stealth to attack without healing up. Finally, he SRed INSIDE of my already channeling Churning Earth. If he was halfway competent there would have been no way for me to kill him.

I myself dont play a bad thief.
ive seen lots of thieves die in videos on YouTube, and my advice to u is play a thief in wvw then if that’s where ur issue is. but in spvp and wvw the same counters work. u just may not always catch the thief when things dont go his way.

That’s exactly the kitten issue.

I force thieves at ~20% hp into a shadow refuge repeatedly, sometime multiple times during the same fight if he doesn’t say “kitten it” and run, but kills don’t happen unless some competent help shows up.

Now if he’s dumb enough to come out of stealth without full healing first then he’s dead.

I also have videos of my own on youtube where I’ve killed thieves, but those thieves were real idiots running back into battle at half health when they could have simply run away. I’m not interested in those kinds of videos.

sorry I see what you’re trying to do here, but why would anybody upload a video of poor game play? I die lots as a thief (mostly with the zerg fighting), but I kill lots too.

game play of thief vs thief would be more interesting.

and anyone who is reading this and thinks thieves cant die or are easy to play, create one and appreciate the skill involved (in playing one well)

If you upload a video of poor play then go kitten yourself. I’m looking for 2 good players dueling wherein the thief happens to lose; or 2v1 whatever.

Oh and I do play thief in sPvP, but that’s entirely different than WvW.

I’m sure many of you who put together WvW highlight videos have a lot of videos that ended up on the cutting room floor because you lost. How about making a video featuring fights you’ve lost to give other players an idea of what it takes to beat a thief?

If you wanna stop the QQ, this would be the way to do it.

Thieves with Infinite Stealth

The solution to thieves is a CC move and the tab button. It’s that simple. CC a thief and he will die in half a second. If he doesn’t, he’s a crappy tank build and you can safely ignore him and run away because he won’t be killing you before you distance him.

The most important thing with thieves is to not play their game.

If you think tankier thief builds are crap then you have no idea what you’re talking about.

Adding a bit of tankiness makes the thief all but immortal in a small fight. He loses the ability to burst down a target in 1 sec with steal/backstab/CnD but is still able to keep an incredible amount of DPS pressure on a target, especially with a condition build.

Also you assume that everyone can outrun a thief which is a ridiculous assumption — D/D Ele, Thief, GS War are the only builds/classes that can do that.

Hey folks, sorry about not having posted in here for a while! But update time!

I took another look at Simin after the spark AI fix, and got more feedback concerning the difficulty. The sparks were a step in the right direction, but it wasn’t enough. I’m going to reduce her stealth healing this time around while I consider other possible changes. As it stands right now she has some nice mechanics with the tears and the spark running, which emphasizes the teamwork we like to see. However all that aside, her healing turns it from a fun mechanics fight to a more hard-nosed DPS check for even the most mechanically skilled groups.
Personally I would much rather see people having fun with mechanics than having meet a DPS check. Considering also there isn’t a visible meter to check your group DPS versus her healing, groups can spend hours doing this and reaching the same result, despite meeting the mechanical skill threshold.

I will eventually change her stealth mechanic so she doesn’t heal during it and instead does something else (like an enrage moment where she is invulnerable), but for now I’ll just take her healing down a peg to reduce the DPS needed to overcome the fight, so people can enjoy the mechanics of it.

Well, there it is. Enough crying from the community and I guess even the content made for us “hardcore” players goes down the chute. Time to go complain about the artificial difficulty of obtaining a legendary.

Now the only somewhat hard fight in the game will be reduced to a total kittening steamroll, and the dungeon master title acquired by people who couldn’t complete it but could cry on forums.

Matching a DPS check doesn’t make you hardcore.

Clearly it’s not all about DPS because there’s a hundred posts by people insisting they had tons of DPS and failed.

I have never had a problem with this fight, but I always go with coordinated groups with players that I know and work well with and trust to play their classes well.

If you’re failing on Simin, you need to stop blaming the mechanics and each member of that party need to take a good hard look at what they’re doing.

- Everyone should make increasing the group’s DPS as a whole a priority in their build.
- Nobody should ever go down during this fight.
- Nobody should be petrified for more than a fraction of a second.
- The tear thrower should be dpsing 95% of the time and throwing tears 5% of the time. Watch the buff bar to minimize the time hold a tear.
- Everyone should know exactly which spark they’re responsible for and go directly to it without aggroing any other sparks.

Do these things well and you’ve beaten Simin.

How to stomp a thief in wvwvw?

Thief still needs a team to stomp/AoE, but they all still tell you l2p. It’s a great situation we have here.

Thief is easier to stomp than mesmer since the mesmer disappears when they use their position reset. L2P.

How you stomp a mesmer:

1. Begin stomp. Mesmer disappears.
2. Wait for the second mesmer to appear with the BIG kitten RED ARROW OVER HIS HEAD.
3. Stomp the mesmer with the red arrow above his head.

Done.

Also, if a mesmer screws up and uses his 2 skill too early, there’s a good chance he’ll reappear before your first stomp has finished and since he doesn’t teleport far enough, you’ll kill him.

This is a trick you can do as an Ele (or any other class with an instant teleport, Mesmers for example).

When the thief teleports, teleport to him. If your stomp animation hasn’t finished yet then it will complete on top of him and kill him. If you miss this time window, immediately start another stomp and he won’t have enough time to go invis.

Worst case scenario, AoE or Melee when he goes invis to keep his health down.

Just in case anyone’s still thinking about spewing that horse kitten that you need x amount of warriors, I just killed Simin for the third time with the following group:

- Necromancer
- Engineer
- Engineer
- Elementalist
- Mesmer

All classes can help the group put out the required DPS, you just need to know how.

As for the Sparks, I’m 3 for 3 on Simin and have never had a problem with them, so I’m not really sure what problems the rest of you are having. Maybe there’s still a problem but it’s never been a problem for me personally pre or post patch.

If you are a Ranger, Necro, or Engie and acquired Dungeon Master after the recent Simin “fix” (no longer allowed to DPS while she’s stealthed), how the hell did you do this?

All classes can put out a lot of DPS if they are specced and geared accordingly.

The next step is for those classes to be played competently.

The thing with this fight is that one or two people can hold it back by not contributing to the group’s overall DPS so you’d better make sure everyone in there knows what they’re doing.

I don’t get it? I thought they were normal mobs and 1 veteran every 10 secs or so? 5 players really can’t handle that?

QFT. Any group of competent players should be able to handle this.

Classes don’t matter and you can do this event with lvl 80 green gear. If five people can’t kill regular mobs and one low health veteran they should really ask themselves what they’re doing wrong.

The whole point of the highly detailed points system is so that we don’t get stuck for a week at a time in the kittenty wvw matchups that your volatile suggestion creates.

It’s no fun for anyone when the only WvW action is a server farming another server’s spawn with 30 ballistas.

Why would you even complain anyway? It’s not like you have to do the math. Just get out there and cap and defend.

How would this proposed system do any of what you said? In fact…if you ask the lower tiers how the current point system is working out for them they will be happy to let you know exactly how the current system is pitting the same three servers against each other week after week after week with the same situations you describe and 0 tier movement. At the very least this new system will allow tiers to move more fluidly based on actual wins and losses.

In the proposed system a server that barely wins or barely loses will change tiers and then likely get dominated and dominate respectively. This results in extremely unbalanced matchups essentially every other week.

The points system is good, but the overall ratings need to be tightened up a bit to help them settle with the new player populations.

In my opinion, t8 rankings need more attention

What is needed here is a “soft reset” similar to LoL’s elo rating soft resets at the beginning of each season.

Don’t totally reset the ratings, but instead bring all the server ratings proportionally closer to the median rating.

Guys, at 990g even the unluckiest of the unluckiest will have a precursor in the mystic forge.

It amazes me how many people don’t realize this. For 950 gold at current prices you can make 2500 rare greatswords. If you throw all of those into the forge you will get back somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 exotic greatswords that you can sell on the TP to offset the cost. If you lowball the value of those exotic greatswords at just over 2g, then you’ll make 400g back — that’s the minimum return. This would put the overall cost at 550g.

And if you put 2500 rare greatswords into the forge, you’d have to be insanely unlucky to not get a precursor. I got mine after 1100 rares, a friend of mine got his after 500, and I’ve heard other people quote numbers in the range of 1600.

Yeah, the biggest problem with this fight (and many other boss fights) is that he’s glowing like the sun from all the player attack particle effects. Makes it very difficult to see anything. I’m usually squinting this whole fight.
