So I’ve been thinking and came up with an idea I’d like to toss out at the devs to sidestep the possible issues with Cantha, assuming it is THE issue:
If the problem is too many Asian cultures are being blended together, let’s separate them into more defined cultures!
This scenario could be used as a possible explanation:
The Ministry of Purity was all about purifying Cantha of non-humans, but once all the non-humans are gone or have become too rare to be a daily job for them, what at they left with?
Attempting to “purify” the humans of Cantha.
Communities become walled off, corralled, and separated from other communities based on their “purity” (Pure of what would be the dev’s decision), the end result is that the small differences in these communities would grow into almost entirely separate cultures, getting to the point where Cantha is practically several nations in one. Different and distinct, but none of them “worthy” by the arbitrary and increasingly mad standards of the Ministry of Purity.
I think it needs to be pointed out that racial skill buffs CANNOT make one class stronger than the other in a dual because…
RACIAL SKILLS ARE DISABLED/BARRED FROM PVP.
So I heard that part of why a Cantha district could not be placed in Divinity’s Reach at launch was due to the Asian Market’s protest about “blending too many Asian Cultures” as one. This seems like it could also be a huge roadblock for bringing back Cantha, while it seems dumb, it can be considered understandable.
But there is a solution: Cultures evolve, grow, and change over the years and yesterday’s generation can be indistinguishable from tomorrow’s, and Cantha has been separated from the rest of Tyria for a long time.
Basically: what if Cantha is NOT a unified empire anymore but has fractured into several, smaller nations, each one devoted to a specific Asian culture? What if the lack of non-humans resulted in the human groups and subcultures realizing how different they are and gradually drifting apart until they formed their own nations/sub-nations?
It would would, in theory, allow us to have Cantha with less concern about offending due to “cross cultural lumping.”
While this thread is meant for the devs to see, I would like to know what fellow players also think and their own input.
Well just know that if we lose out on the original fall of Abaddon, we’re not likely to go back and cover it since GW: Beyond was scrapped.
Okay, so, let me get this straight: Kiel’s second offer is to reduce prices (by no vague amount, like her opponent’s offer) for a specific service/item.
In this case: way points.
Am I the only one feeling this is a bit anemic. I mean the discounted Black Lion keys aren’t much better (sorry, Anet, but I put up with that enough with TF2), but Black Lion keys are things we can, in theory, save real money on when discounted. Assuming you’re not like me and zealously only buy gems with gold.
I admit the point I’m trying to make is poorly organized but it would be nice if the Discount was permanent (or be much longer in duration) or at least let other services and items be discounted as well.
For example, harvesting tools, salvage kits, and/or armor repairs on top of the way point reductions.
Sorry, I had to get this thought out.
Basically, this thread is to compile a list of events and mechanics that were to be released with the game but didn’t quite make it in, as well as to compile our knowledge on their ultimate fates. (such as full on cancelled, delayed, or unknown) And why they might have been removed
Also perhaps if we had news if they will ever be added.
Here are the top things I recall thus far:
Towns
Cantha District in Divinity’s Reach – Removed – Negative Feedback from Asian Market (I hope this doesn’t mean we’ll never see Cantha again)
At the moment my format will be “Missing thing X – Status Y – And reason Z”
Town Activities
Bar fights – Unknown – Unknown
Shooting Gallery – Unknown – Unknown
Mechanics
Personality traits/choices affecting play (such as the ability to punch out NPC’s mid-speech) – Unknown – Removed due to time constraints
“Sidekicking” (basically where lower level players can be brought up to the level of higher level players for the duration of their teaming) – Unknown – Unknown
Anything else I’m missing, I know there were over thirty activities for towns planned, and I think only keg brawl is in the game.
I would like to suggest that we don’t just DYE the underwear, but instead pick up ‘prints/patterns’! For example, men can either get the sexy sexy embroidered boxerbriefs paragons had or red hearts on white!
Edit: oh, I’d also like to be able to dye hearwears like bandanas, simply because my Asura’s red headband kind of clashes with his blue colorscheme.
I must apologize for this shameless self-bump, but I feel this is an important matter, at least to me and my friend.
Said friend is the whole reason I got into this franchise.
@Malin
I thought as much, I still do hope they do implement it in time. just the real concern is if they will since we’re talking about the potential of not just changing dialogue but possibly even how some missions unfold. I mean, if I punched out Traehean every time we talked, wouldn’t that spoil a few things?
but I think the OP’s suggestion to change to the underlying game mechanics would be prohibitively difficult, time-consuming, and expensive to develop and test. And as Runiir pointed out, level progression is a key component of MMOs.
I do see a problem with even that solution though. If ANet made such a change, the time spent level grinding between story arcs would be increased. The overall level grind amount would not be changed, but it would come in larger and lengthier chunks. The monotony of that could be reduced by adding in new story-drive side quests that are more involved than many of the current dynamic events (which would require time and money spent on content development, but would be much easier than revamping the game mechanics).
Part of why I’m actually in favor of just more instanced side quests, to be honest. I mean if we ‘out level’ something, we just get leveled down for the quest. But if you’re too low, you’re out of luck. I recall once person suggesting repeatable quests linked to your Order to raise your standing, delve more into the story, do more with the order outside of the pact, and a few other things.
Doing something similar with your racial nation outside of the typical heart quests and such, as well as with the Lionguard could prove very engaging.
I would like to support this with a bump and a /sign.
Seriously, didn’t they say a ferocious character could punch-out NPCs mid-conversation? What happened to that? WHERE’S MAH RENEGADE INTERRUPT?
I like these suggestions, I just have one one concern with this:
Necromancer: Lich Form - instead of the weird ghost thingy that apparently can do the carlton dance? it could be the ghost of christmas future. (you can google it if you don’t know what it looks like
but it looks pretty awesome and would fit well)
It would mean a holiday gag version is cooler and more menacing than the regular version.
I don“t want to join the Vigil, Priory or Whispers story option

I like your add-ons to the original idea.
It would be interesting if by joining an Order you will get that “Daily board of Duties” to do for your order. It can also be a start of introducing “regular type of questing” but in a dynamic world. These “duties” can be:
-Kill a random Champion boss: the aria where it can be found will be marked on the map
-Collect different items: they can ask items from drops or gathering. The foes/resources which give them will be marked on the map
-Help 3 random NPCs in heart events: those hearts will change their icon on your map till they are done.
etc.All these quests will not differ from what it is already in the world and will not require new events to be added. Once you join an order, in your hero panel can appear a new tab with the order icon and those daily quests can appear in there automatically or if you talk to a certain NPC.
Doing this Order quests, will reward players with order points which will be more likely to be traded for order armor and weapons
Also within the Order there can be different ranks to achieve
As it is now in the game, when you select a player, you see its name, guild, guild tag, title, profession icon. If the Order ranks are added they can add a symbol for the Order and a number for the rank
I would like to support this idea, though I do think special spawns (that only spawn as the quest holder gets close) or special tweaked versions to heart events to keep things mixed up just a little and reduce a feeling of repetition.
Then perhaps option 1 might work better? I’m also not sure Anet’s fully realized what they’ve done by making every level require roughly the same amount of time. That’s great at higher levels, but at lower levels it means a personal story can end up painfully dragged out.
And again, from a story standpoint. Why do we need to spend hours for additional levels if Queen Jennah’s been kidnapped?
So, no one else has had similar problems like this?
The issue: Personal stories are set at specific levels and never give enough EXP to achieve the levels you need, and heart quests and events also only give so much EXP. This creates a very jarring stop-and-go with the personal story, even if the last quest ended on a very urgent notes.
The only apparent solution would be to grind (and yes, even if it’s called ‘a heart quest’ or seeking out an event, it is still a grind) up to past twenty to thirty levels and then start your personal story from the top and pray the storyline’s EXP can carry you through to an appropriate stopping point. (One that doesn’t end with you needing to save Quinn from immediate death but can’t because you’re three levels too low.)
The Solution(s):
1. A step back and trying out more traditional instanced quests like those that had been used in City of Heroes, Champions Online, and such. If repeatable and rotating, these instanced quests could even be used to trigger larger events within the zone, helping to keep it distinct from traditional MMOs and give individual players a sense of influence over the world.
2. Change personal story quests so that they are held within a level RANGE (say 1-5, 5-10, 10-15, etc.) rather than a single level bar to allow smoother progress.
I make this request not for my own sake but on behalf of my best friend who has had increasing trouble playing through the game due to the stop-grind-and-go of personal stories, and I do not want to play this game without said friend.
So, all that said, I’d like to open this thread for scrutiny, peer and professional review, feedback, or added suggestions.
I would like to support more RP options, in particular, it would be nice to have a way to log our chats/specific chat channels.
I just want to say that I disagree with the OP about healing based classes, what I would suggest rather is more AoE heals and buffs for ALL classes.
You know, it’s funny how even though I’d love to return to Elona myself, I never thought what a good storyline would be.
My idea for a Cantha storyline actually has a bit of prologue to it, namely that to other races, it seems Queen Jennah has been trying to reconnect to the lost land and regain human supremacy in Tyria with the largest existing human empire still around.
It then turns out Jennah’s been working with the Tengu and wants to help a band of revolutionaries bring down the xenophobic Canthan Imperials. Possibly with Shing Jea Monastery serving as the launch point of the whole campaign, the monks there care little for the Emperor’s increasingly tyrannical laws, and are willing to give shelter and land to the foreigners and non-humans.
That’s about as far as I got.
My own Asura’s imput into this is: WESTSIDE KREWE, REPRESENT, G-DAWG!
[Deed: Secret Volcano Lair]
[Deed: Floating Luxury Tower]
[Deed: Deep Sea Research Station] “Not Penny’s boat.”
Don’t forget the moon base or space station.
In World Vs. World both will grant the Asuran player a unique elite skill that will let them fire a magical laser on their foes!
I’m pretty sure Sylvari are the only race that ISN’T racist.
The general mindset of every race is either “We are a head and shoulders above the rest” or in the case of humans “I hate Charr”.
Norn might be less so since they judge individuals, but they still tend to be skeptical of what non-Norn are actually capable of.
As far as Chauvinist goes, that depends on the species. Humans and Charr are because they have a very strong sense of nationality, Asura and Norn are more egocentrically centered, though Asura do have a sense of group loyalty, on a national scale their patriotism seems only enough to bother with an actual government. Sylvari… They might be in an odd way. They are fiercely defensive of the Pale Tree and the Grove, but that’s logical since if the pale tree died (that group at least) would die off too. They are also extremely defensive of the teachings of Ventari’s Tablet, which can be chalked up to a bit of nativity, and the Nightmare Court honestly harming their own case nine out of ten times.
Edit: I also want to point out to people: IT’S SAPIENT! NOT SENTIENT! Sentience is basic awareness of one’s surroundings and world, and the ability to react to some extent. It applies to not just humans, but cats, dogs, fish, and bugs.
Sapience is a being capable of “human-like” and complex thought processes. Human beings are the only known race to possess full sapience. In fiction, Asura, Charr, Norn, and Sylvari also are sapient, elves, dwarves, and orcs are sapient. In otherwords.
Now you know the difference.

Not only is this a bad idea for other players, but a bad idea for you, do you know how stupid a character would have to be to be part of the nightmare court?
You could be fooled into thinking a Charr is a Sylvari and an ally as long as they put a leaf on their head and said: “I’m considering joining the Nightmare court!”
It actually works out a bit well for me. I mean, my Asuran Engie is a Dynamics graduate, so a lot of his stuff as an Engie is borderline MacGuyver’d together from things he picks off his enemies, finds laying around, and anything he can hodge and podge together.
It’s all prototype stuff for him since Rata Sum didn’t start floating in a day.
Also, I love how the rifle skills work for him, they fit him perfectly since it makes it look like even when he’s winning he’s getting hiskitten kicked.
Asura are the master race of Tyria. Anet can’t help it that the Asura are naturally great. I mean, come on, their racial elite skill includes A MECHA!
That you can generously share with your bookah companions.
Given the clawed look of their hands and feet, their previous cave environments, and light weight, it’s possibly Asura had been climbing creatures and it’s still an instinctive discomfort to cover or restrict their toes.
I would like to /sign this.
Really, gliders, Da Vincian fliers, or even just being on the deck of an armed air ship would be cool.
Charr, Norn, Human, and Sylvari could probably have unarmed combat styles but they would be very different based on race. Charr would probably be claw and fang oriented. Norn and Humans would probably be brawlers. Sylvari would most likely draw from nature to be the closest to a martial artist.
Funny enough, this is how I originally imagined fist fighting, that it would be a racial weapon skillset than a profession based one.
Charr, as you said I imagined as claws and fangs.
Sylvari fight with more finesse in line with kung fu
Humans would fight like boxers or Jason Borne, lots and lots of dirty tricks and nasty things. (POCKET SAND! Sha sha sha!)
Asura would probably use a wire-fu sort of style, though a more realistic idea might be say Tai chi or Aikido
And Norn… Norn fight with honor, glory, and donuts. Norn would fight like Luchadora. (bonus points if lucha masks become available.)
I do agree that it would only make sense for crossbows to be added, after all, we also have Ballista, especially used by Sons of Svanir- Snavir- Aw nuts to it. But anyway though, with how big the norn are though, those ballista really just look like slightly large crossbows to them.
The real question is how would they be distinguished from rifles, pistols, longbows, and short bows? I mean wasn’t the avoidance of the million and a half different bow types in GW1 a conscience decision and effort?
I would like you suggest to the posters to support a more ‘all encompassing’ weapons suggestion thread found here
Ah, I’ve got a small list, not just new weapons but weapons I’d like to see proliferated:
Proliferations:
Rifle – Rangers and (possibly) thieves. Redundant for rangers, I’ll admit, and Anet’s already said ‘no’, but I still hope for it since it feels right to me at least, and I’d love to make a Green Mountain Boy (look it up) style ranger. For thief, basically just sort of comes up for the idea of giving the thief a sort of long ranged, sniper style weapon. (bring us that much closer to the Commando becoming real!)
Hammers or Maces – Engineers, because it would be nice to have some melee options, and hammers are sort of ‘working tools’ as well. So the former works best thematically.
Staffs – Rangers (in this case they’d use it mostly as a melee weapon ala quarter staff with maybe the last two skills dedicated to more mystical druid abilities)
Spears (on land. Technically, they’re existing weapons, so I guess they count for a proliferation than a new weapon) – Warriors, Guardians, Mesmers
New Weapons:
Cestus/fists/gauntlets/knuckles/bare hands – Preferably let all classes have this option, but if I had to choose it would be, Elementalist (think, Avatar: The Last Airbender), Thief (Think the Borne trilogy), and Guardian (think, Aikido and more ‘mystically inclined’ martial arts). (though if we could also get it on Warriors, I’d want Warriors to fight like wrestlers to start a luchadora guild)
Scythes – Guardian, Warrior, Necromancer (because I miss my dervish, dangit)
Edit: oh yes, also
Whips – I don’t know which professions should or would get it, butkittendid the Nightmare Court make it look good. Or rather I made it look good when I disguised myself as the nightmare court.
Wait for when the Cantha expansion is released, though I’ve got five bucks that says a one-handed katana would be called a “Shiro blade”, possibly. not really.
Though, this makes me wonder, if Shiro was translated into a GW2 profession, would he still be a thief or now be a warrior?
but it looks pretty awesome and would fit well)
