Balanced Classes Finally

in PvP

Posted by: Erasmus.1624

Erasmus.1624

It’s like the OP isn’t even playing the same game as me.

snip

How the kitten is this balanced?
Some classes are good at everything, others can only fill a niche and others are just bad.

The classes that fill a niche perform in said niche significantly better than the more well-rounded classes.

Nobody is going to take your arguments seriously so long as you spew subjective non-sense without anything solid to back your broad claims.

Thief’s survivability is some of the worst in the game if you’re able to catch them. Their ‘survivability’ relies wholly on remaining untouched, which won’t happen if your opponent outskills you.

You only focus on one ranger build, which is the absolute best 1v1 in the game while offering very little team support. In other words, it’s a balanced niche spec.

Guardians, as you said, are probably the best bunker right now. Outside of the bunker spec they offer some of the best utility and have the best inherent survivability in the game. Any sensible Guardian build is pretty well-rounded.

I could go on, but really if I were to remove your biased undertone and change your crumby points for the warrior I’d feel I was advocating a pretty balanced game.

Sure, let’s pit guardians, the class built around boon distribution to compensate for the low base hp, against s/d thieves who can steal any of those boons at will. Pretty balanced, I’d say. WHAT, YOU HAVE STABILITY? MINEMINmineminemine

You sound upset. Unfortunately, pets being a thing has been around for quite a while. People just didn’t know how to use them. Now, even the most casual of player can learn how to use pets! Isn’t that great? I for one, love cats. Cats are good, and fluffy, and lethal. Did you know that there is an estimated of 2,912,000,000 cat kills of varying species every year? That’s a good number, considering how lethal they can be. Guild Wars 2 just accurately portrays their lethality.

Will Guardians get a viable ranged attack?

in Guardian

Erasmus.1624

I’m actually perfectly fine with the current ranged options for my guardian. The range is outstanding for 2 out of the 3 scepter skills. Both Orb of Wrath and Smite have a range of 1200. Only Chains of Light has a shorter range of 900. My only real issue is the slowness of Orb of Wrath. Other than that, I think the scepter does a decent amount of ranged damage. It certainly isn’t going to win any awards for having high, sustained DPS. However, I don’t use it because I want to do massive damage. I use it more for Smite and Chains of Light.

I get that people feel neglected because the guardian can’t do massive amounts of damage at a distance (Smite is crazy good if you have a high crit chance and can snare your target). But I think the limited ranged options says a lot about their design goals for the class.

The whole class is built around the concept of always being in the thick of battle, while buffing and supporting those around them. There are many ways to accomplish this task of course. I think giving the guardian a stronger ranged weapon would make the class way too powerful. It’s already extremely powerful.

Having said that, it would be nice if the scepter had a symbol skill associated with it. Maybe turn Smite into a symbol that has a chance to cripple your target(s) while also providing a boon for allies?

The bad thing about smite is that it’s short and, like most AoE skills, the enemy can just walk right out of it.

I don’t have the attention span to care about content that comes out every at the end of each month, to be honest. I just do it, get the points, and go back to forgetting it ever existed until the next part. It’s not good design. Though, the latest part did make me a little happy but mad at the same time because THAT was how F&F should have started, not going up and down Wayfarer’s fixing signs. There was literally no impact for the first two parts. As a storyteller, what you guys should be doing is making things with more oomph and then fill in the things between that and the end. The Karkaland guys did it right, though it failed to do anything significant afterwards. Dying to invisible karka was probably the most amusing thing there.

I know you’re incredibly cool and witty with your posts, but stop. Just stop. I’m not saying don’t complain if you don’t like changes that happened, but there’s no need to make 50 threads where people are throwing insults everywhere.

Yes, warriors took a blow because quickness was nerfed, but lets be real here: it’s not like this is the spot that they intended warriors to be in, and it’s not going to stay this way. Quickness needed to get nerfed eventually, and it’s probably a lot easier to see how to buff warriors by getting rid of it first. Should they have put in buffs to the warrior right away? might have been a good idea, even if they weren’t long term solutions. They didn’t, so lets move on.

Quickness is an extreme problem at lower tiers of the game. Whether you like this or not, and whether you care or not, does not matter. The quicker this change is made the quicker we’ll see spvp grow at the bottom. If you want arenanet to spend time on pvp, and possibly devote more time to pvp, then the bottom needs to grow. End of story. There are some other things that need to be changed (backstab burst, tank eles, and many other things), but this is a start. A start that should help people that are getting into the game to stay with the game.

Quickness also pigeonholes warriors into making their entire build about getting a frenzied 100blades off. You can look at this nerf as a way to see what direction to take future buffs without making warriors “overpowered.”

Lastly, stop spamming the forums please. If you actually care about the future of the game (and if you don’t, then why are you still here?), then you have to understand that all these posts are doing nothing but deterring newer players from wanting to play. We don’t need a separate thread for each person’s opinion on how the warrior sucks now. We don’t need a separate thread for each person that is “quitting” the game. I don’t want to be mean, so I’ll leave it at that.

Thank you.

No. There’s literally nothing to do anymore but complain. WvW is done and over, PvE is garbage, and PvP is getting nowhere. There’s nothing FUN to do except grind, grind, grind all these 20 something currencies which may or may not be useful in the future. I’m looking at you, Fractal Tokens.

if the minority complain, could be their problem, if almost all players complain, it’s obvious there’s something wrong..

and could be so easy for anet satisfy us, just give us what we want, not what THEY think we want

Unfortunately, they’ve been doing whatever they want since the beginning of the game. The only thing I can remember off the top of my head that ArenaNet actually took back was when absolutely everyone complained about the jumping nerf.

Mega Boss loot changes

This was a much needed change. I approve. Boss events had become too popular for all the wrong reasons.

The only reason people flocked to meta-events in the first place was because the meta chest loot is far better than any other chest loot in the game, including dungeon chest loot.

The only way I could see any possible fix is to upgrade dungeon chest loot to be closer to meta-chest loot, but instead, like always, ArenaNet goes with with the least popular idea.

Wow so entitled, anet doesnt have to give you any functionality they dont want to, check your priviledge

This, and… DS is designed to be a transformation.
When transformed (and most times, when carrying an item) you cannot do basic actions because you’re busy with what you’re doing.
Infact the dev also said DS is designed to be a transformation to use when on low health to continue fighting or to prevent spikes when fighting – not a tool to “bypass” some fundamental mechanics such as being vulnerable while ressing or buying yourself seconds of cooldown with in-transformation swapping.
DS was never meant to be a normal state you use for every purpose.

“use when on low health to continue fighting” is how kittens use it.

Just wanted to give a quick update on this topic. We’ve completed verifying every update from the november release, and there were zero changes to anything what so ever that would have negatively affected loot in any way/shape/form. We can officially confirm this as an X-files level conspiracy at this point.

We’re in the midst of evaluating every loot table in the game and running massive random roll evaluations table by table, as well as evaluating every system game wide that causes a player to qualify for items to determine if any issues exist in those systems from launch.

Will update again when we have another round of concrete information.

I call kittens. We used to be able to get a couple dyes every day, but now we get lucky to even get one every three days or so. And it’s not just me.

We’ve completed verifying every update from the november release, and there were zero changes to anything what so ever that would have negatively affected loot in any way/shape/form. We can officially confirm this as an X-files level conspiracy at this point.

I’m sorry if I’m being blunt, Colin, but that feels a bit like an offish response. Something certainly isn’t right, far from it, and 20+ pages worth of player feedback attests to this fact.

According to the November notes:

The drop rarity of Rare and Exotic weapons from certain places in the world (champions, veterans, and players in WvW) has been increased. Rares and Exotics should be much more likely to drop and every champion should be guaranteed to drop loot. This was to ensure that world loot drops were not a significantly worse way of acquiring rare and exotic items than crafting and running dungeons.

Firstly, there is no specification as to the increased amount, 1% can be considered an increase, but by all logic 1% means nothing in practice.
Secondly, it refers to places in the world, and what that means exactly is a mystery. Do you mean those not involved in events – so the event count as the reward – which is pure poppykitten, as they all deserve to be rewarding in equal measure.

Today I killed 10 veterans in Dredgehaunt, none of them dropped anything, and I don’t mean sucky drops, they literally dropped nothing, not a scrap. Clearly that’s not a conspiracy. You guys should go kill some karka, which requires twice the effort to kill, but rewards as terribly as the rest.

I got a grays and whites from level 80 champs a couple times.

Ascended gear is just a part of gear progression, it shouldn’t be available only in fractals meaning it doesn’t have to be available there as well. People were moaning about lack of options beside fractals, you can do it now ;p

Pretty sure anet wanted players to obtain ascended gear through many ways they could have had them bought with laurels and relics

I can’t wait until the Closer to the Stars gear tier. It’ll be a whole ‘nother level of gear grinding requiring multiple stacks of ectos, hundreds of laurels, and thousands of fractal tokens and possibly a new form of currency. You know what I like most about this? Now that I think about it, instead of solving actual current issues, ArenaNet’s causing more.

No waypoint rez use in dungeons until the whole party wipes. It seemed pretty clear to me, though I don’t know if maybe I missed something? It’s to prevent people from just WPing as soon as they die and running at the boss mindlessly without any actual tactic. Party wipe >WP > regroup is what they’re going for.

There’s already a cost for this in terms of repair costs so it does reward better players as it is. COlin says that they don;t want people to play like this but its PvE what does it matter, especially given there’s an inbuilt cost to bad players as it is. And what about revive orbs I presume players will still be able to use those. I bet the gem shop will see an uptick in terms of those sales.

The logical endpoint of this change will be more dungeon elitism in terms of what groups are looking for.

I actually don’t mind getting items from an RNG as long as I’m not paying real money for it. I’d even say I look forward to farming Lunar Fortunes each year in GW1 for a chance to get a Celestial Mini. (And for the record I don’t do it to sell them, I do it to get one to keep. Which is lucky because except for one year when I got 3 in a row I’ve only ever gotten 1.)

I also like that I know if I don’t get it I’ve got the option of buying one from another player. Yes they’re insanely expensive (although the price usually crashes by the end of the event) but it’s do-able.

What I do have a problem with is having to pay real money to play an RNG and having no other option. Which is why I’m trying for the bell and trying to forget about the festive minis.

As much I loved them, I somewhat doubt they’ll bring them back. Doing things like Lunar Fortunes wouldn’t be profitable, real-money wise. If they did bring them back, it wouldn’t be the same. It’d essentially be like this Wintersday’s mystery boxes, I imagine.

Also, the unbreakable bell gives you near-unlimited potential to annoy everyone around you. If it were a common drop, everyone with ears would be really angry.

This isn’t about some weapon skin, it’s about playing a fun mini-game. By keeping them rare they are locking out content from a lot of players once Wintersday ends.

All of the other Wintersday content disappears after Wintersday…

So. King John Smith’s statement basically stated that crafting anything with ectos that has a high profit return rate is considered an exploit. Okay, ArenaNet.

You’re missing the point here. The recipe allowed you to basically produce ectos out of almost nothing (mithril) and an initial investment of only one ecto.

Yeah, I know. It was kind of a joke. Furthermore, it wasn’t worth it since, as was stated before, you actually need to be using BL kits for it to be profitable. If you try using Mystic, it’s not worth it at all unless you get super lucky. Which isn’t often enough, considering RNG Wars 2.

The confusing part is trying to determine what is considered an exploit and what isn’t.

There’s a very thin line between what actually is an exploit and what the developers consider an exploit.

Every time I hear about Spy Kits and Portal Guns, I cringe.

You should really get them out of dungeons, they’re doing a lot of harm to the game.

Are you bloody joking? That’s like saying consets shouldn’t be used in GW1. They were there for a purpose: to make things less tedious. In GW2, consumables are here to make things less tedious and a bit more entertaining. Same principle. They exist to inspire player ingenuity in getting around tough situations, rather than being railroaded into a certain playstyle. If a content designer believes that there should be only one way to get through an obstacle(his way), then he’s not doing a very good job at being a content designer. Doing so makes the content have zero entertainment and is a sign that the person in question is not particularly innovative. Tedium does not equal fun.
