As staff conditions, be careful with those wells. One of your greatest strengths is not being noticed as you drop mark of blood over and over.
Start dropping wells, and people are going to scatter.

Corrupt Boon…
Who uses that?
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
At first you’ll want 0-20-0-0-0 for the pets heal on crits and the 30% bigger pet crit skills.
later on you’ll want the 0-0-0-0-30 for the pet regen (it affects the ranger too, broken tooltip) So with your signet and food, you can get 3 sources of regen, and if you want to melee you’ll need it.
eventually you’ll want to be 0-20-0-0-30 and then you can spend the last 20 however you want.
The most important thing to have when leveling/soloing is a strong pet. What weapon you use is up to you. Personally, I like the greatsword since the last patch.

I think most guardian zerker builds died with the omniberry food nerf
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
It’s not all bad. There are times when you can really melt people, but there are plenty of situations when you will be so bad, that you will think the game is still in alpha.
WvW means PvDoor, or at least PvSiege, and a conditionmancer is truly worthless when comes time to take down an arrowcart.
Keeping dots up is rather frustrating. It doesn’t take any organized group play to shut you down either. A ranger under fire pops his water field heal. A shouts guard always pops shouts. Every ele, worth his salt, does an aoe cleanse just by attuning to water. Thieves just need to stealth. They did nerf engineers, but I guess this next patch might buff them in the cleanse department.
All in all, you won’t be impressing anybody until the second or third time you cast Mark of Blood on someone. By that time, they will be out of cleanses and at your mercy, and by then you probably will want to heap some misery onto anyone you can.
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
I click on the movie thinking “omg minions would be such a cool build, I wonder how he does it. Does he use the healy pet? does he use conditions? does he use the skill that makes ’em blow up? can a minion build really work?”
…and now all my questions about minion-mancer builds have been answered.
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
Just look at how broken the engineer class is. It’s garbage.
…and yet every patch they find a way to nerf it more.
It’s a nerf to ele’s that RTL away, and then come right back for more over and over, just be sure to save RTL for when you want to leave a fight and not look back… It’s fine.

HGH is a bug when combined with that skill in the power line that gives might when you equip the med kit. So you get the runes/sigils and whatnot that give might when you heal and spam potions to get 20 stacks of might going…
….once you have all that might you press #3 with your pistols out, and watch people melt.
In this next patch they nerf confusion damage 50% in wvw, add boon hate skills to various classes, and. if not this one soon, they give thieves the ability to mug your boons,
Yeah.. hgh builds are great.. for another 2 days.

Jordan is just like you, Khyber. Except he likes to argue in favor of underpowered classes.
Engineers either exploit confusion or boons just to be playable, and both of which are getting nerfed in this next example of a-nets better judgment.
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
I have nothing to be happy about.
Warriors will never use that boon hate nonsense. It’s 30 points deep in a glass cannon spec that focuses on burst skills. Who, in their right mind, would give up the other master trait, which focuses on making burst skills awesome, for the sake of doing 10% more damage to guardians?
It’s pointless drivel, that they can point to when warriors complain about how hard it is to kill a guardian. It’s the dev’s way of telling the player base to STFU, and it will have no real impact on the game.
The confusion nerf is no big deal, you could see that coming from a mile away, and why it didn’t happen sooner is beyond me.
The healing turret buff is lipstick on a pig.
This class is still dead. Any attempts to breath new life into it have failed.

Engineer:
-Activating or stowing the Med Kit no longer triggers on-heal effects.
-The rate of fire for Flame Turret has been increased slightly.
Bugs:
-Fixed a bug that allowed Confusion to do too much damage in WvW
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
The engineer has always been an odd class. We had builds that never died, and ones that killed too fast.
If they fixed stuff that needed to be fixed, no one would really care. I never thought that 100nades was overpowered, not with thieves still killing bunkers in seconds, but to nerf elixirgun builds in order to nerf 100nades? wtf were they thinking?
If all an engineer can be is a glass cannon, then they can’t blame us for making the best kitten glass cannons they’ve ever seen.

This class is so horribly broken, the only thing left to do is find a mechanic to exploit.
They would need six months to fix everything that is broken with this class.
..and at this point, the only way to play the engineer is to find something “not working as intended” and exploit the hell out of it, because playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
I think this is one of the many classes that prove that the devs do not play this game.
Guardians are expected to give up TWO utility slots AND use a 2-handed weapon for a lousy swiftness buff.
So after giving up your signets, your reflective walls, your spirit weapons, your main and off-hand secondary weapon slots, and investing heavily into a trait line that offers almost nothing….
…all this class really is, is a buff-bot.
You can even heal yourself by buffing other players!
Well isn’t that special?
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
I used to say necro... but that class is unplayable.
So then I went engineer, and was loving the flamethrower/KR elixirgun build... but they decimated the engineer class, and I too am an inch from rage deleting my character.
I have a warrior, guard, ranger, and ele at 80, but the thieves I fight in WvW routinely do 15-20k in 3 or 4 hits...
So since everything is a free kill at this point, I’m starting to look for another game to play.
...maybe in a patch or two GW2 pvp will be something other than free kill, or zergball
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
I ‘get it’ when it comes to guardians in dungeons. You do damage, make boons, boons heal you… it’s all good!
But in WvW… that don’t work so well. No one ever says in chat “OMG guardians are so powerful, I died in 3 hits!”
…nope. Guardians aren’t scary in pvp.
So why are they so gawd-awful slow? ..I hate being forced to use the staff just to run across the map.
I’ll take an elite slot signet for some run speed any day!
…and all this slow running just makes any glass cannon spec suicidal. What would a D/D mage be without ride the lightning, crazy heals and damage? A guardian ;(

I actually find myself cursing blizzard, and then having to remind myself that this is an Anet game.
For instance, if I fall off a cliff and die, while trying to get to somewhere, along what should be a path… “f-ing blizzard, is that supposed to be ‘fun’… oh wait.. STUPID ANET!”
But yeah… being a dev must lead to having a MASSIVE ego. The mountains of games on the scrap heap is a testament to it.
Devs need to understand that if they say a class can do XYZ, then the players will expect the class to actually do XYZ viably.
..but instead we get car dealers trying to tell us that the Rav4 makes an excellent tank.
“Really? I kinda think a ‘tank’ makes a good tank”
“Oh yeah, it might not be the most ‘viable’ tank on the road, but it’s more than capable of filling the role.”
…and then it’s like, “did you hear about Bob? he got killed trying to tank a moose with his Prius”
And that’s how you end up with Necros in your group saying “I can tank, any class can tank” and “Can my engineer friend come too? He’s a great healer”
…and the devs see them say it, and walk off muttering “engineers are fine”
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
FA is definitely losing coverage…
Just now TC golem rushed our keep in EB. There was a total of three people inside to defend it… with one arrow cart… and they Golem rushed us…
As 20-30 TC players bashed down one door, I ran through another and right into another 20-30 TC players.
During the daytime hours, FA just doesn’t have the numbers. We might be able to get 10-15 players per map; including the one or two spies that call out “TC zerg at bravost get here fast!” while TC takes langor and kain takes QL…
All in all, it’s just getting old

Some cleric geared ele giving you trouble? Use berserker gear.

Necros are one of the best classes for WvW. cya
No! no, no, no, no, no, no!
How can you possible say such a thing about a build that cannot kill siege equipment?
..and I’m not talking about siege stuff up on the wall in a far corner that’s hard to reach; I’m talking about a catapult in the middle of an open field.
“Oh hey, guys. Help me. There’s a catapult here and I need help taking it down.” “how many people are defending it?” “Well-uh.. none.. but I’m a condition necro so I cant kill it”
I’ve actually said that!!!
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
Of all the classes in the game, elementalists feel the most “done”
Necromancers leave a person wondering if they are every going to “finish” designing the class, or have they just given up.
…engineers seem to be a class they just gave up on. I don’t think a single dev plays that class, and they seem truly surprised by the backlash from the last patch.
We aren’t that bad, but the bleed cap isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, and 90% of the time the only condition someone needs to cleanse when fighting a condition-necro is bleed. No class has a hard time cleansing just one condition, and when they start seeing the red numbers flying, they know it’s time to cleanse it off and nullify all the work the necro did staking all those bleeds.
If a single stack of bleed is 1000 damage, and a person repeatedly dodges and then cleanses 9 stacks of bleeds…. yeah.. it’s that bad playing against a competent player.
Direct damage is a bit of a mystery to me, as I geared for conditions at 80, but the one or two times I’ve come across a DD spec’d necro in WvW. I just ran them over.
Wells are easy to see, and even easier to avoid. ‘Look at the melee guy standing on the big black poisonous spot (is that a skull?), I think I’ll just range him" You really need a lot of strategy there, lol.
And wells have a long cooldown, and when they aren’t up, the class falls to pieces.
“No one knows how to properly use death shroud, and when they figure it out they will be much better players.. blah blah blah..”
What a load of s***! Yeah it’s a secret! Only the best, of the best, know how to properly use death shroud! You suck, because you don’t know the super secret of playing the necro class! …and I don’t want to tell you how awesome it is because then we might get nerfed!!! If Anet only knew how awesome we really are they’d have to nerf us!!
A load of s*** that big requires hip-waders and a forklift to clean up.
Roll an ele, they can do everything but tank.
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
People make fun of staff ele’s all day long. D/D is so much more powerful.. blah blah blah…
But I play my staff ele just like that guy does, and whenever I log onto my necro, I feel like I’m wasting a spot in the raid. Like a moonkin in MC (if any of you played wow)
Every necro in the forums talks about how well they can support a group, and all I can think is that they have never played a staff ele, or hammer guardian, or a mesmer with those funky reflective shields.. that’s group support. Even a banner warrior puts necros to shame.
And the more ele’s you get, the better the support gets. The more condition-mancers you get, the faster you reach the bleed cap.
People can argue the merits of this build or that build all day long, the simple fact is that necros and engineers are on the B-Team, and their overall design is so bad, that it is never going to change.
…but just to be clear, and for emphasis, a full support build necromancer is no more valuable than a hybrid ele, guard, mesmer, or warrior.
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
…and more to the point, is this why Anet thinks we are fine?
I rolled up on the necro trainer with my bunker guard, and melted before it’s greatness.
It rooted me, dropped a well of corruption, and life siphoned… and I was dead.
..and I lost again.. and again…
So I hopped on my necro; I run conditions, and I had no idea that daggers were freakin’ godmode.
So I bought a beserker ammy, dagger, respec’d a dagger build, and got kitten by the trainer.
That thing was doing four or five times my damage, life siphon’ing me for 6k damage…. as I life siphon’d back at him for 1400 total damage.
Is that really how Anet see’s necros?
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
My longbow warrior is a ton of fun, but against rogues (anything that OP can’t be called a thief), he’s just a free kill.
Longsword/horn is great for traveling, but 1-on-1, it’s weak beyond words. One of the reasons greatsword is so powerful, is that other people are afraid of it. No one is afraid of bleeds, and no one is afraid of the longbow.
They will charge right in, and burst you down.
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
1) The Ranger has a pet and doesn’t need to be in melee range to deal his max amount of damage at all times. His pet can sub in and actually CC the target for him to close gaps… so he really doesn’t need any gap closer to start.
If a Warrior is using Greatsword he needs to stay in melee range to do anything.
I is so confused!?! Are these guys for reals? Ranger envy?
Who’s next? Engineers?
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
I don’t think it’s possible.
All good roamers have one thing in common, the ability to get away.

If an engineer picks up their own turret, there should be no cooldown.
Now THAT would be an improvement!
Rifle should pierce…. flame should be far more impressive….
This class has so much potential, and so little follow through.
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
First off, farm dragons for gear, and do your dailies. Use the laurels to buy tier 6 mats or unidentified dyes, and sell them. Do not look at the dyes… the odds of getting a black are slim, and people will buy the unidentified ones for crafting. Use the karma you earn from all of this to buy cheap exotics in Orr.
http://guildwarstemple.com/dragontimer/
After you rack up some gold, start buying yellow gear, and green trinkets, anything with magic find, and keep farming those dragons. In a few days you should have had more than enough of dragon farming, so hop into WvW.
Grab an arrow cart, or run with a zerg, and start farming those tokens.
Whether you want to buy your exotics with karma, tokens and gold, or just gold is up to you, but you can get a lot of gear stat combos in WvW now, so it’s a very viable option.
Once you have a decent amount of exotics start doing dungeons. Twilight Arbor and Citadel of Flame are the best ones to start out in.
Some people are just jerks, but if you tell me you haven’t done a dungeon, I’ll happily tell you the quirks of a fight. If you want your endgame to focus on dungeons, roll a guardian or warrior. It’s sad, but if you’re running an engineer, necro or ranger, you are going to have a much harder time getting groups for dungeons/fractals.
and that’s about all the advice to new 80s that I have to offer

Are we talking about “.” or “…”
‘cause a simple “.” is fine by me, as long as I’m not expected to type periods while running from a keep that’s under siege. “UMFG, INC” “run pugs run!” is as close to proper sentences as you’ll get from me.
…and as a chronic user of “…” I talk when I type, and I’m just denoting a verbal pause, or break, or a continuation of thought.

I logged onto my engineer for the first time since the the patch who’s name must not be spoken…
..and I tried to build something useful.
First I tried to make a grenade build, but the damage kinda sucks, and targeting is a nightmare, and not having super elixir on KR is horrible.
So then it’s like, I’ll try turrets, but I need a kit for run speed, and I need elixir S for well.. everything! and that leaves me with one turret.. ]
One turret for a turret build…
…and then I thought “why do I torture myself with this crap,” and logged off.
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
Longbow is kinda weak. You won’t melt faces with it, but it is viable.
I like 0-25-15-30-0. For zerg WvW I use sword/war horn the speed boosts. If I’m just pugging along I use a greatsword, and just use my banner for traveling speed boosts.
I’m mighty tanky, and I need to be. I like to get down-and-dirty with my warrior, and I need to take a hit.
Longbow isn’t exactly a ranged weapon, and if you build like a glass cannon thieves will eat you alive, but if you can take a hit, just drop fire on yourself and stand your ground like a good tank, and melee will have to leave you alone.
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
I’d like to see Mark of Blood’s regen occur at the caster as well as at the mark. I’d spend 20 point in the vit traits to get such a thing.
I’d like most of the character skills to have shorter cooldowns. Most of the skills, not just necro ones, are kinda cool but the cooldowns make them useless.
Spectral armor has to be one of the worst offenders. 90 seconds of cooldown for what should be on a 30 second one.
I’d like to see Target the Weak (2% damage per condition) be something along the lines of 10% of condition damage is applied to power.
I’d like to see DS do something good for condition builds.
I think regen might be the biggest thing. All classes have regen, why don’t necros? The healing pet is crazy OP, until it dies… could we perhaps lower it’s healing, and add passive regen to the signet of undeath?
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
I’ve come to think that the playerbase is just way to defensive, and what we need is Gordon Ramsey to scream some sense into them.
Just try telling the Necros that they aren’t wanted in groups, and they start talking about condition removal. They think they are the greatest thing since sliced bread; everyone else thinks their garbage.
…and what’s really infuriating is that I was really starting to really like my flamethrower engi, and Anet killed it. Nerfed damage, nerfed Kit Refinement.. what’s the point?
…but people will still defend them. People still ask for ‘good’ flamethrower builds.
The most painful part of it all, most of the time the playerbase has some really good ideas. Like let rangers stow their pets and receive a small damage buff. Why do they fight the players on that? It’s a good idea. Hell.. they could even just add a pet that only gives a stat buff, and doesn’t attack.
They won’t even listen to any of that. Just look at how they ignore engineers begging for KR to be restored to what it was (I did my share of griping about it) Hell, I’d give up all the other effects, if they would just give me elixirgun procs… but no.. not even a comment on the subject.
And why did warriors, mesmers, and guardians not get the ‘quality of life’ speed buff?
Siege weapons can’t bleed… But you can kill lava flows with fireballs….
/facepalm

Oh… don’t you love these threads? Everyone gets to come in, and brag about how much money they earned, and how easy it was…
For the rest of us that play on outmanned servers, if you don’t buy siege, and lots of it, then you can’t hold anything.
If any of you rich guys would like to log into FA, we got 10 guys defending overlook and there looks to be 50-150 TC players outside. The two commanders on the map are both broke, and we need ele’s to do the air shield thing ‘cause the wall’s at 10%….
…but you can bet your backside that we’re gonna use every last ounce of supply to build ballistas, and hold them off till the last man stands.
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
If you want to solo/roam, then you use D/D, because it lets you charge in and then escape if it goes bad.
If you want to play a group support/ranged class you use a staff.
Both are good, both are viable. One is better for Spvp, one is better for WvW zerging.
I see no problems with either one.
-
I think D/D ele’s hate Staff users because 90% of the time in a small group pvp scenario the D/D’s side will win, but add just one staff ele into the mix and the D/D will be forced to run or die.
Roots, reflective shields, chills, stuns, and all that healing… it’s a D/D’s worst nightmare.

I really wish people would stop defending what is considered to be one of the two worst classes in the game.
Being dishonest about it is not doing you, the game, or the new players any good.
Yeah sure, you did a dungeon, with a guild or pug blah blah blah… does that suddenly make the class good for dungeons? No, it doesn’t.
Here we have a Mesmer that turned a 7 minute CoF run into a 10 minute run, and got kick from his group for the effort.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Talk-about-elitism
I’m happy with anything less than 15 minutes, but I’m not farming for a legendary weapon. You start adding engineers and necros to your group, and you could be there all day.
Someone new to the game, looking for badges, might be happy with that, but most of us have been-there-done-that, and have better things to do.
A: Anyone wanna do TA?
B: Sure I’ll go
A: Great! my necro needs tokens for the armor
B: Oh wait, my sister is coming over with her kid, I better not do a dungeon right now
A: Oh, alright, anyone else wanna go?
Make your main a necro and you’ll get used to seeing that.

Necros just aren’t very good, and the player-base knows it.
Conditions are pretty lousy all-in-all, and DoTs have always been week on trash mobs. If you have a long ramp up to do your damage, and the mob dies in 5 seconds, what good are you?
I love necros that say, my Mark of Blood does X amount of AOE damage, and they never mention how long it takes for them to get that damage. Lets be generous and say 1 mark of blood does 3k damage, and it hits three mobs. If it takes 8 seconds to do that damage, then why would a group not just take an ele instead?
An ele can do twice that in DPS, and if heals are needed, there is no comparison. Condition removal? Don’t make me laugh….
And conditions still don’t work on destroyable/mechanical things. Which is just plain stupid, and shows how useless the devs are in their thinking.
I am reminded of just how stupid the “carts can’t bleed” argument is every time my ele or engineer uses a fire damage skill to destroy a lava eruption, or a living flame type of beasty.
And no matter how hard they try, a power necro is never going to be as good as a banner warrior.
100blades warriors, Mesmers, Banner warriors Great sword guardians, Hammer guardians, Staff ele’s… these are the A-team builds of PVE, and it’s not going to change anytime soon.
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
I’m wondering this too. I despise my guardian in WvW (runs too slow) , so I’m wondering if there is a guardian-esque build out there.
As for leveling, 0-0-0-15-10 should be you first few levels.
If memory serves me right 15 points in will give you a decent heal when switching to water. So if you are using a staff, pull with earth 2, swap to fire for #3 then a few #1s. Once the mob is at your feet drop a #2 fire, switch to water for a heal, regen, and mist, drop a #2 on it’s head and just spam #1 till it drops, healing yourself with water blasts and your signet.
It’s quite tanky, and I wonder just how tanky it can get if taken to an extreme.
