A Discussion of LFG Tools

www.gw2lfg.com works great. I’ve used it several times

You are right, its great. But there is this feeling inside of me that just bothers me when i have to go outside of the game to play the game.

Its also odd that fans managed to create a LFG tool that is far superior to the ones the developers put in. I have not see this kind of creativity since WoW where in my opinions the game actually relies on the addons of fans to remain as popular as it is, from UI interface mods, AH mods, Boss mods, to chat mods.

Game Changes: Metrics vs Forum Feedback

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Fairymore.8609

Fairymore.8609

The forums are a tool the same as any other, if the community wants to give feedback, it’s only a couple mouse clicks away. People in the community are aware of the forums, Reddit, other forums, et al. The forum posters are a valid tool for feedback for any issue and if the rest of the community does not wish to give feedback to devs or community at large then it is more their fault than anyone else’s. It’s the game you play, if you want to see change, take action. If you don’t take any action, then who is at fault?

I’ve played with many different people on many different MMOs (RPG or otherwise) and I am the only one who I ever know that visits and participates on the forums of said games. I do not blame them because I feel the few topics that are relevant to the game becoming better are few and far between. Areas like General Diss, and PvP are overflowing with rude, unsupported, and troll topics on all forums no matter the game. “Suggestion” and “Lore/story” areas always feel like they are put there more for the fans than for developers to actually look at or visit.

During beta when i finished an event in game a blue box would appear asking me to rate my experience on things like how much fun I had and difficulty. It also included a box to leave a comment. I’ve never experienced anything like that and i thought it was brilliant because now you could get the opinion of everyone who plays the game, not just the veterans who know how to work the forums.

There needs to be a better way to reach out to the player base INSIDE the game where they are. Make giving feedback a part of the game. Take a survey in the game for a chance to win a chest filled with boosters, or take a 100 surveys and get cosmetic town clothes, if everyone in your guild participates in a survey your guild gets rep, etc etc.

Why is the Inquest on Rata Sum?

Also the Asura have a very unique system of law and order. In one story quest at the very beginning when i believe the inquest have stolen something of yours Zojja recommends you go into the Inquest base, beat them up/destroy their stuff and take back your invention “before it becomes illegal”.
Made me think the Asura have a “Alls fair in love and war” when it comes to Krewes and inventions. This may explain why they have the Inquest so close to home, they just have different laws and definitions for what constitutes criminal action.

What dyes do you use on your T3 armor?

Day/Night no difference?

Since the early betas have been talking about this topic. But apparently it is somewhat complicated to implement since no Dev has responded. There was talk of making the night much darker, with better weather effects, with dynamic events happen depending on whether it is day or night, etc …

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Night/first#post824280

Didnt know about this one. I made a suggestion my self not long ago with some pictures:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Option-to-make-the-night-darker/first#post1184858

To bad that suggestions are forgotten as soon as they leave the first page on this Forum

And i want it as badly as most others here

Thanks for providing those pictures and comparisons. One MMO that did “Night time” the right way is Lord of the Rings Online but only in selective areas. In Mirkwood when the sun sets it gets very dark and what makes this darkeness even more apparent is the “torch” feature where only the immediate area around your character is lit/visible by light. I can not presently provide a picture but this really set the atmosphere for the area and made the environment itself seem threatening. I am still applauding Lotro devs for this.

they should just let us learn new dances regardless of race

If i am not mistaken Aion offers several different dance animations that you can choose from. I do not know what making this possible entails but i do know i would buy gems to purchase different dances for my characters.

gw2lfg.com … solved.

This site proves how much this feature is lacking in the game. The players had to create their own LFG system outside of the game because the one Anet provided was not good enough.
I would like a LFG tool that is as efficient or better than gw2lfg.com in the GW2 game.

Dueling in?

What exactly is complicated about putting in a feature that allows two players to fight against each other?
Right click them, select duel, they are given an option to accept or decline, they accept, fight happens and fight ends.
Lord of the rings online has a dueling system. Lotro, which is a very…unique…game has this.

Action Combat

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Fairymore.8609

Fairymore.8609

I would like to start a discussion to help me understand why more MMOs(including GW2) do not have the level of action combat that is found in games like Vindictus or Dragon Nest.

I enjoy the combat in GW2, it helped me realize how a small change like not needing a target selected to cast abilities could make combat in a MMO feel more fast paced and engaging. Having played several other MMORPGs in the past this is a big deal for me. For this (and many other reasons) I adore GW2 and happily hold it as my favorite game.

However the Action Combat that is found in Vindictus or Dragon Nest is significantly different than in GW2 or even Tera(which prides itself on action combat). It looks and feels (when you play it) as if you are in a completely different league. For some context please view the videos below.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7WI88DnE4g
and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=X3rjKG1AqhY&feature=endscreen

To me it looks like GW2 could have reached this level when I look at several features and how they work
-aoe for damage(not all) and support spells/abilities
-your damage ability/spell meant for target A, hits target B simply because target B walked in front of it.
-Dodge ability
-Fewer abilities available on spell bar/interface
but instead the game decided to take a middle way, somewhere between “point and click” and as Tera calls it “True Action Combat”. Why do you think it did so? And why isn’t this level of fast paced action combat seen more in MMORPG’s today?

Trying out a Tron-ish look with pastel blue, abyss and celestial.

That’s brilliant and exactly the same thing that came to my mind when i saw Asuran T3 armor. I do enjoy seeing that kind of tech style around Asuran culture.

Why does the personal story finish in Arah?

in Personal Story

Posted by: Fairymore.8609

Fairymore.8609

Why did you you choose this idea of mandatory grouping for the last story mission?

It is a great question. Were I in their shoes i would say that a dungeon offers the appropriate level of “epicness” that a target like Zhaitan deserves. However I am not a developer, I am a player who cannot finish their personal story because the barrier to entry is too high. I have to find a group and i have to find one when the gates of Arah are open (which is no easy task at all).
I have my second character getting to level 80 and to this quest soon. I am already considering the possibility that i will not complete it on this character also.

Remember me?

in Personal Story

Fairymore.8609

I think that unnamed objectOrrian mirror wasn’t the only thing like that. There’s some Asuran stuff (I’m not going to “spoiler” lvl2 personal story stuff) like the VOED that shows up in Orr too when going to the place and doing the thinggoing to the Temple of Grenth to find out the ritual but I haven’t gotten that far on either of my Asura yet so I don’t know if there’s any acknowledgement of it.

I know what you are talking about and i did that quest. The Asuran NPCs do not act like they know you but if you talk to them after the cut scene one of them does knowledge you with something like “Oh i remember you” which confused me because i thought that was MY invention and MY krewe.

I felt a little bitter.

Asura all the way???

Go with Charr and go wild with the character creator. They have amazing customization when it comes to fur color and patterns that allow you to look unique.
Then select Iron Legion. If you like Asura then you will like the Iron legion because not only are they the principle legion in Ascalon but they also have an affinity for invention and innovation just like Asuras.

Ignore the “slow” feeling because its just an illusion (all races run at the same speed, have the same size hit box, etc).

T3 medium armor shoes for my Asura Engineer – best investment i made in game since I started! Best investment and also most expensive one…12g.

Dye drop rates???

I have noticed that Dyes drop less for me too. Personally i would love to get my hands on simple White, Silver and Gold. Don’t get me wrong I love the different variations and their names especially but sometimes I just want the plain simple color, not “mocha hot decaf chocolate brown” or “Sticky under your shoe yellow” lol

Character Creation Options

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Fairymore.8609

Fairymore.8609

Some races have more tools available to make a unique avatar than others. The example i use here is Hairstyles.

Asura male: 9
Asura female: 9

Human male: 24
Human female: 23

Charr male: 8
Charr female: 9

Sylvari male: 11
Sylvari female: 12

Norn male: 17
Norn female: 20

What is most off putting to me is the difference in extremes. Charr males have the least options with only 8 hairstyles but Human males have 24 which is triple the amount.
Given that some races have different options that are unique to their race (charr have fur patterns, norn have tattoos/body paint) all races have filamentous biomaterial that grows on the top of the scalp and as such all races should share the same number of styles.

*Sylvari are the exception when it comes to long strands of protein growing from their heads but my point remains the same. All races should have more hairstyles.

Regen Boon

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Fairymore.8609

I understand that when boons such as Regen “stack” its potency does not change, only its duration. My question is what if player X who has no Healing power casts a Regen and then before it runs out player Y who has lots of Healing power casts a Regen of his own, does that mean the weaker Regen remains weak only with a longer duration?

I hope i explained myself.

Yes to all of it.
This subject is so common in every MMO you would think creators would catch on quicker but surprisingly its the popular companies that have the most difficult time with it. Took World of Warcraft 7 years to accept that allowing their players free reign to customize the appearance of their characters improves their experience in said game. (thank you Snarky and “The Appearance Tab” thread plus all other supporters for making it possible after so many years of diligence)

“The plate wearing mage” argument…its classic. Always there are players that believe this will be the norm (or pirates, or naked players or whatever absurd idea pops in their head) and it is not. As stated above Lord of the Rings lets light armor classes wear heavy armor pieces cosmetically and thankfully the world has not imploded. Instead there is an entire sub community of bloggers that create outfits and show them off.

And let us not victimize the artists of GW2. Their work is under no threat what so ever. They will continue to release designs for plate, leather and cloth armor. That is a ridiculous argument that is repeated so much just like the plate wearing mage.

Yes please allow armor of all kinds (heavy, medium, light) to be used by all professions cosmetically.

Zakka is on the right track. Trivial changes like hair (and facial hair) style/color should cost in game money like silver or gold. Charging gems for small changes like these is in my opinion inappropriate.

Premium services would cost gems and should include
Character make over – essentially offers you everything the original character creator does. body type, skin tone, reshaping facial features, etc.
Gender Change – Male to Female or vice versa

Were this already in the game i would have bought several hundreds of gems by now.

The cultural armor set prices

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Fairymore.8609

Fairymore.8609

I have always been under the impression that the cultural Tier gear is mainly for cosmetic use. Therefore the price of it can be extremely high as we see with T3 (often the best looking in my opinion). High to give it a mild sense of exclusivity and perhaps to encourage buying gems to trade for gold.

If the cultural tier gear had set bonuses then i would be convinced that they were meant to be bought by the majority if not all players and that their prices should be more reasonable.

Engineers: What do you want to see that we don't have?

A fist weapon kit. Call them power gloves, can give us the same abilities as the asuran golems we see everywhere
-melee auto attack
-Launch fist
-Gatling fists
-Whirling assault
-gap closer
Or something of the like. Sounds like “Summon Power Suit” except this should actually be good for something more than being slow, weak and a waste of 10 skill points as the elite skill currently is.

T3 Cultural Medium armor a let down?

in Asura

Posted by: Fairymore.8609

Fairymore.8609

…Which is a shame because it could have been so cool seeing how good the light and heavy versions are.

I am of the sort that looks at the Asuran medium armor T3 (cultural) and disapproves. It does not call out “Ranger” or “Thief” or “Engineer” to me. It is visually appealing and it is very Asuran BUT it does not “fit” any of the professions when compared to how well the light armor T3 or heavy armor T3 do. I actually would have preferred the light armor T3 (Savant Armor) for engineers because of the goggles and all the pouches around the waist. The electronic arm would have been a stretch for Thieves and Rangers but it could have worked.
