it is a PvP game… so….. you’d think you would have to do PvP stuff maybe? Yeah…
Unfortunately you are right. Even though there isn’t an ounce of PvPing that you need to do or even come close to, unless you want to complete map, earn monthlies, get legendaries.
This has been debated before with no reasonable conclusion and no answer from ANET. So the only thing you and I can do, if we wish to continue playing is, live with it.
Ignore world completion and do what you like. Or as some have suggested go to the Mists follow a zerg, complete your map and get out. Make sure you’re on a server that owns the map though.
That’s how I completed one of the borderlands.
P.S.: I really hate PvP too.
I second this opinion.
It used to be that when you were in the same zone as the dungeon there were people going “LFG Story mode”
Then, it became “LFG Dungeon Exp 1/2/3” only. I could only find people to do story mode in LA.
Now it seems even in zones I rarely encounter “LFG”. Its only when I go to LA where I see this. And its nearly always “LFG Dungeon Exp 1/2/3”. Although now more commonly “LFG FOTM lvl 10”.
I think story mode dungeons are cool. That’s why I do them. Not so much for the rewards.
I’m still trying to complete COF, COE and Arah in story mode.
Personally, I thought the entire write-up was a brush-off and a major marketing spin.
I would like to see some quantification of “a lot of players” enjoyed the event. Alot can mean 45% of the player base or even 30% of the player base.
“Players have already spent an incredible amount of time in the new Fractals dungeon, and their reaction to it has been phenomenal.”
Phenomenally good or phenomenally bad?
“Having said that, we’re also aware that there were certain aspects of the event that could have worked better than they did, and thanks to your excellent feedback we’ll be working toward strengthening this type of content moving forward.”
Certain aspects? Bugged events, small new zone, unreasonable timings (at least for “alot of us”). Strengthening this type of content how? Making it available only on the 29th of Feb 2013, for 5mins at 12noon PST?
Seriously the more I read the article the more frustrated I get. Regarding the serious gloss over. SWTOR anyone?
Personally, I find GW2 quiet a but PvP focused. From the medals in the start screen, to monthly achievements, to needing to complete the Mists for 100% Map completion, to needing PvP badges for legendaries (and 100% Map completion.)
Did you know that slogan is being pasted all around the train lines of singapore ? Which also begs the question of why is GW2 so afraid to focus on PVP more than PVE to attract the community, when GW2 was in fact marketed as a pvp game, and has a predecessor (gw1) a legendary pvp mmo with meta far beyond its time, not even brought forward to GW2.
Does noone see the horrible focus on PvE again for the new patch (Even new dungeons for FoTM), and just a cut and paste of an october 8th post for esport glorification? On top of which, the community for spvp is near dead, and WvWvW biggest problem the rally system which favors zerging and zero strategy, and having people killed upwards of 10 times before you *win a fight is not addressed.
Please for the love of everything holy, re-prioritize the pvp aspect of the game and layoff your fotm dungeon which has already fractured the pve playerbase. Us pvp’ers will open the pve’ers who want horizontal progression with open arms, by simply adding ascended gear free to buy only usable in WvWvW /spvp , and unique skins in special dungeons in the WvWvW zone though possible to be gank /evilgrinz, but hey it promotes guilds/servers to work together…..
P.S. if you want to make money too from WvWvW after free to buy ascended in pvp, just add a booster for Badges drop rate to 100%, and price each gear to allow transmuting to PVE mode!!! Suddenly you have a subscription based PVP game in your PVE game, and its not pay to win because you can still farm badges normally !!!! OMGEEEEEE
To moderator:
Edited post so i dont get randomly bumped to spvp forums for no reason when i would like to discuss the bridging of the pve and pvp playerbase
Where, which line/station? I take the trains everyday and I’ve yet to see this sign?
I’m not a PvP player and have no interest in PvP.
But from what I got from your post is that you want ANET to give out higher stat gear to PvP players for free and only usable in PvP.
Where as the PvE player has to be forced in to PvP play and on top of that grind for badges to convert the items to PvE gear.
If the PvE player does not want to grind, then he/she has to pay money to ANET to convert the gear to their play style while the PvP player gets the gear for their own play style for FREE.
And thus convert a non-sub game to a sub-game only for the PvE player so that you as a PvP player can play for FREE.
What a way to NOT fracture the community, even more.
Seriously?
I have been having problems trying to do the survey. When I click on the link it either says server not found or brings me to a search page. Even when I type in guildwars2.ncsoft.com in the browser it keeps saying “server not found”.
I can go to the ncsoft site for Guildwars2, but then what?
Was the site only available for a limited time (like 12noon PST, for 2 hrs)?
Anyone else having this problem?
Indeed, great music in a game does So much. And tbh im not much of a fan of most music i hear ( too much violins ),some do sound nice, but battle fights, boss battles,i find them rather annoying. I found a thread by someone saying you could customise your own music for gw2. here’s the page if you want to http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Customized_soundtrack , its pretty awesome having your own fav music fire up at night or at boss battles.Ive set some skyrim music for night, some music from lost oddyssey ,howl of the departed for boss battles ( best boss battle song imo ) its freaking awesome to hear it when youre fighting jormak etc.
I really suggest to try it out and put in some music from other games for instance,or whatever you like.
Thanks for the link. Might just try it for fun with music from Enya.
Or get them to participate, even though the timing of the event was so extremely kittened-up for some of us.
4am Monday morning? There better be a good reward.
After all the debate and arguing on the Forums, and the posts I’ve made. Yesterday I was ingame and running Mount Malestrom. Just wandering around trying to complete the map. There were other players in the map running around completing dynamic events, asking for and getting help, telling people where the mob bosses were spawning.
It started raining in game and “Fear Not This Night” started playing when I reached one of the areas (I was playing the game at night.) The sound effects of the rain, the music and the camaraderie really made me forget for awhile the entire Lost Shores fiasco.
This is what the game should be about. Art/Friends/Fun.
I love how you call anyone with a different opinion than you a “vocal minority locust”.
I never asked for this change, I was enjoying the game quite as bit as it was. I’m sure that’s the case for many of the people you refer to as “locusts”. That doesn’t mean we’re not going to enjoy the hell out of a new tier of equipment.
You need to learn to not take life so seriously. Or games for that matter. This new tier of equipment isn’t going to break the game. A game which I might add has only been out for THREE months. They never made a promise that exotic(easy as hell to get) gear was going to be the final stage. So you have to actually do some work if you want to have ascended gear. Buck up kiddo. Expecting to never have anything to progress towards at only 3 months in the game was just stupid on your(and many others) part.
I totally agree with you on not taking this game seriously. Not taking life seriously, is a bit more questionable.
But listen kiddo, if you weren’t taking this game so seriously why are you here on the forums posting so many times arguing your case and defending the changes.
I don’t really take this game seriously anymore. But I’m here cause once I really liked this game and saw alot of future potential. Its sad to see that potential wasted, like so many developers have done to their games (SWTOR being the latest.)
I’ve seen games brought down for reasons such as this before. And the reason is not so much that ANET just implemented a new tier of gear (other MMOs have done this and have been very successful,) its the fact that by doing so they have gone against their words during development, which people bought into.
Its really sad to see people out there who do not take companies/organizations/etc seriously because they believe that they are going to get screwed over anyway. You also can’t blame people for this attitude cause so many organizations have done just that. Bait and switch. So basically people now just take for granted that they are not going to be told everything, not going to rely on an organization’s word, etc. So why bother?
If you hate the game so much now, why are you still here?
There’s plenty of us who still love the game, and a single tier of new equipment isn’t going to change that.
Get a life or something kid.
?
That’s why people are complaining… What kind of life do you have while grinding for gear in a game?
Really kid?
I love how he actually comes here to answer questions and get’s nothing but attacks for actually doing so.
The gear treadmill has been here since the game launched. This thread is a prime example of it. “You need full 80 exotics to get into my party for this harder dungeon”.
All they did was add a new mechanic and a new tier of equipment above the existing top tier. Which by the way they never said was going to be the last one.
To everyone still complaining about something that’s obviously not going to change. Get the kitten over it and enjoy the game. Otherwise none of us want to hear your constant whimpering, whining, crying, or complaining.
This is what they said in their Manifesto. No gear threadmill, max stat gear was already in place (exotics.) Then they went ahead and changed this because players complained, that there was no progression, no reason to stay, etc.
So why shouldn’t other players who do not want this change, complain to get the change reversed?
Only seems fair, that if ANET wants to cater to the crowd who wanted the change, also cater to the crowd who did not want it.
This is something that existed prior to ascended gear, and was something that we saw happen all the time in GW1, even without any sort of gear progression. Some players, typically people who play the game a lot, tend to only want to play with other players that play like them. They require some sort of proof to get into their party, whether it be displaying your Lightbringer Title, equipping or linking some type of gear, or using some other method of showing that you have already done and are experienced with the content. While ascended gear might be the new excuse, this behavior happens regardless.
While this is not really something that we want to encourage, players do have the choice to play the game in the way they want. We can’t force those players to be all-inclusive in who they invite to the parties they create, and to be honest, doing so would probably make people even more unhappy than they are now, and lead to a lot of undesirable behavior.
The difference is that even though it existed before, it’s existence was due to player efforts. There were some development issues which led to this of course.
But now it seems that the development team is actively encouraging gating. With this new design philosophy for GW2.
This is not a new MMORPG design philosophy by any means. In WOW vanilla, this led to the Hardcore Raider vs Casual debate. Blizzard had to take steps to stop this. And has been moving forward with this ever since. But it seems that ANET is taking a step backwards.
Guys ANET had to make money, even if they had to throw out their manifesto to do it. I’m a casual player with a lvl 80 character without any exotic gear. The new update is not for me.
I just play the way I want to play and not the game ANET wants me to play. I’ve no interest in grinding gear and if that’s what it takes to do the Fractals dungeon then kitten FOTM.
I haven’t paid a cent more that the box price and as far as I’m concerned I got my money’s worth. I’m not going to pay anything else cause this game is not worth it for me. Especially with the latest update. So I’m going to enjoy doing my own thing till something else comes out.
So what I’ve gathered over the weekend in LA and here on the dungeon forums is that the other dungeons are dead?
Everyone seems very happy and interested in the new fractals which is good for them and ANET. But what about the other dungeons?
I tried LFG COF story mode over the weekend and got absolutely no response. And this was during peak-times on my server, in LA.
This so reminds me of my days in WoW as the game matured from launch when new raid dungeons come out and everyone would just rush for those for the loot, and you can never seem to find anyone to do lower level stuff with you.
Oh well.
And please don’t tell me you have to talk to him when he’s down. With 10 other players i the room, he’s down for all of 10ns and then back up. Got him down once and nearly talked to him but before I could complete talking he was back up and that was the end.
Just fought the guy for the 4th time after fix and still no mail. Talked to him before the fight but can’t talk to him after. Always got the gold medal for event completion. Some players in the same fight have gotten the mail. WTF?
This is my theory (I don’t really know where else to post this ) :
There is a group of gamers, who are extremely dedicated to their beloved game. They have played this game for years and it has given them much joy, both virtual and real.
It has been their heaven from economic depression, joblessness, war, crime, pollution, loneliness, feelings of helplessness, feelings of worthlessness. Some have had real-life fulfilling relationships brought about by this game. And thus they have come to view this game with love and affection.
This strong feeling of love for this game have made them believe that no matter what happens, their game should always be number one. It has to be because they love it.
These people are well educated, calm, thoughtful, more than capable of carrying out a well reasoned debate, and usually employed. They are in no way the childish, elitist, fanboy (although they are in-fact the biggest “Fanboys”) type people.
The game has been around for years and with a huge general population. The number of these dedicated gamers is also quiet large, with an even larger network of friends.
I’ll call these people, The Guild.
This game for years had kept this promise to The Guild of being number one, by changing, growing and adapting. And The Guild loved her more for it. Other games had come and because of her success had tried to clone her but all had failed. Still others tried to take a different path but did not fully succeed, or did succeed by pandering to a completely different crowd (sci-fi vs fantasy, FPS vs button-mashing)
Now other players had started to look for different things in their game. Fantasy but with different combat mechanics, different leveling, different reward system, etc. What started out as a trickle (easily ignored by The Guild), soon turned into a torrent.
Now developers had taken note and lately tried to come up with games that although follow the same theme use slightly different mechanics. 3 Faction PvP, PvP centered PvE, RA material, Story, different combat mechanics, etc. These posed to direct threat to their beloved. So a plan was put into action.
- If possible get one of The Guild into the development team.
- Screw up the system so that the game gets indefinitely delayed.
- Implement game mechanics that are similar and inferior to the beloved, so that when the game launches it fails.
- Push the other developers onto the path of creating a clone instead of the original idea. (Any clone as mentioned above is sure to fail.)
- Add in ideas that so totally diverge from the initial, that other players would feel cheated and leave the game.
- Get in Beta
- Suggest changes to the game such that the the direction of the game is totally changed.
- Delay the game because of suggestions
- Suggest changes so that the game ends up becoming a clone of the beloved.
- When the game launches, join the game’s forums.
- Stir up a hue and cry stating that if the new game does have the same mechanics as the beloved then it is bound to fail. Get some of The Guild members leave at this point to prove how true this is. The new game then tries to implement these changes alienating the players who actually wanted to play the game for what it was supposed to be.
- Stir up more resentment to the new changes, so people leave.
- Stir up complaints about parts of the game mechanics
- Blow up small issues to cast the game into a bad light.
All this done so that their beloved once again can reign supreme.
0. Lost faith in the game sometime ago. But I did once try to recommend it to one of my friends. He wasn’t really interested. Now I don’t even want to recommend it to anyone.
Don’t really understand the big deal here, sort of like some of the posters in this thread:
You need ascend gear to do Fractals of the Mist, ok.
You need to do Fractal of the Mists to get mats for Mystic Forge for RNG to get Revanant gear, for Dungeons of Light, ok.
You need to complete Dungeons of Light to get Wildheart Rainment/Beaststalker Armor/Magister’s Regalia to complete Blackrock Depths, ok
You need to complete Blackrock depths to equip 24 of your friends with Felheart Rainment/Beastmaster Armor/Socerer’s Rainment to complete Heart of Fear, ok.
I really do not see a problem.
My Druid would really look cool in the Felheart gear. And I’m thinking of speccing Balance. But might also put a few points in Restoration depedning on whether my guild needs more healers or DPS.
I agree, TERRIBLE timing.
Doing a one-time-only event during a weekend?
TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE idea.
People have lives outside of the game too, you know. And those people who live outside, who don’t want to play the game on Sunday or have better things to do, can and will miss out. Tough luck, that’s life. If you cannot schedule around an event in a game, you cannot possibly expect the developers to schedule the event around your life; that’s not happening.
Weekends are…
1) The most common day off in a work week.
2) No-school days (college and high-school).
3) Most populated time of the week for the game.
and bonus…
4) 12pm PST is 3pm EST, 8pm London England. That’s a timeframe that fits Canadians, South Americans, USA, England, and everyone in-between. Even for people in Australia, that’s 7am the next day.
So, in closing: Buahahahahaha, I’m going to the event and other people aren’t. That may be mean, and I’m sorry, but the excuses that people are making about missing the event are just silly.
?
For those who think scheduling your life around a game is the way to go, might I suggest this article:
http://www.mmorpg.com/showFeature.cfm/loadFeature/6867/How-to-Tell-Youre-Addicted-to-Games.html
Personally, games to me are entertainment. They are scheduled around my life. And I expect them to be.
If I miss out on an event in game, because of something IRL, so what? I can catch something else that will entertainment me, later.
If I miss out something IRL (e.g. Grandparents birthday) it is a big deal, cause no one can be sure that I can catch the next one. These are One-Time time limited events.
If ANET wishes to schedule their events as if nothing else in the world matters, than by all means please go ahead. It is their prerogative, as the game’s developers.
My prerogative as a user is to prioritize how much these events actually mean to me, if anything, and schedule these in-game events as my time permits.
If I miss the event because ANET scheduled it for a limited time during the hours where I’m doing something else, then to me its the developer’s loss but not having one more person to witness their awesome creation. Not mine, cause I had something else better to do.
LOL,
Come on guys and gals, chill…
This is my schedule based on my timezone for the huge Nov 16th to 18th content update come live multi-phased ,event chained, world changing, one time events.
Saturday 4am – Bars close at 3, so if I not otherwise occupied and am sober enough I might log on.
Sunday 4am – Sleep (not enough of it over the work week.)
Monday 4am – Sleep (need to wake up at 630 to go to work.)
LOL… It’s just a game.
LOL… I gave up after 20mins. I had a laugh doing it. That’s why I did it the number of times I did. I gave up not because it left me frustrated, but because I only have so much time to play per weekday (maybe about 2 hrs) and I only found out how to access the clock tower last night. I felt that I had better things to do like explore, craft and story. I even tried this wired jumping puzzle that’s around the mystic forge (as a ghost).
The Halloween event is a great laugh but I took none of it seriously (except the scavenger hunt and actually completed part 1 (twice) and 2.) I would just jump in and experience things like the brawl and the other PvP events for about 5, 10 mins then leave (I’m not into PvP). Then I would go back to the non-Halloween parts of the game.
Personally, I really don’t know how people can spend hours on these Halloween events. I really have not been that blown away by any of them to spend so much time on them. They are, as I mentioned a good, enjoyable laugh. It was fun to see LA decorated as it is. The Mad King is pretty cool (did MK 4/5 times now, lost count.) And it was fun to see people running around in costume (I didn’t bother with any, I didn’t even bother with buying BLKs to unlock, my now mountain, of chests.)
All-in-all, I think the Clock-tower and the other events were fun just for their laughable content. For those who made it through, power to you.
Part 1
Currently legendaries are meant for certain playstyles only.
Pure PvE = no map completion + no mists tokens = no legendary
Pure PvP = no map completion + a number of other stuff = no legendary
PvE + PvP = legendary
Part 2
Find someone who has leveled up the required crafting to 400 or buy gifts from TP
Part 3
Grind required mats
Part 4
Then the 3rd group of players need to go through RNG (i.e. gamble) to get a pre-cursor in order to use it to craft the legendary.
Part 1 already managed to cut down on the number of players going for legendary (I know I’m not. I’m a PvE player with no interest in PvP.) Part 2 and 3 involves alot of grind, either for mats or for money. So why make part 4 a random drop? To mimic real-world?
Hello, this is a game. I know there are supposed to be challenges and games are supposed to be fun. Some people find gambling fun (if you do, might I suggest a casino, instead of GW2, you get better returns, i.e. actual money as opposed to pixels on the screen and electrons in your silicon chips,) but not everyone does.
I also do not buy into this inane nonsense that you should take RNG out else everyone will have a legendary. So what if everyone who wants to work for a legendary gets one? Might not be good for your kitten, but that person put in the time and effort for it. Does it mean that it then looses the title of legendary? Just because it takes a legendary amount of effort to get one without the legendary amount of luck?
If I wanted something to resemble the “real-world” I would jump ship and play this extremely cool, highly addictive, free-to-play, extreme cash shop, alot of RNG, extreme full loot world PvP, super hard-core (cause if your character dies your account gets wiped, and you can’t create a new account), single-server, non-instanced world, but with quiet a number of instanced dungeons, MMMMORPG called “LIFE” (developer: God/Inteligent Design, publiser: The Universe.) Currently with about 10billion subscribers.
End Game Content: PvP
But I suggest you don’t rush to it though. If you do go int the PvP zones at lower levels you will automatically be leveled up to 80. Apart from getting your traits, skills, level required armour (this last not so sure about.)
Take your time with the world though, there is alot to see and experience. When you gain higher levels you can go to higher level zones and not be two shot (although this too can sometimes be fun.)
I personally tried not to level too fast. Ended up making it to 80 in slightly more than a month (I still think I leveled too fast.)
Once you hit 80 you can still go to the low level zones and have fun though, so the game does not end. You still accumulate skill points at 80 once your XP bar fills up.
Sorry. What?!?
Have you seen some of the Mesmer outfits. They look like they came out of the Victoria Secrets catalog. I’m very tempted to create a Female Norn Mesmer just put her in those outfits and role play as my main Male Human Ele’s wife.
Piercings might not work as they would be a bit too small to render, so you might not be able to see it in game.
Tattoos should be ok. But for guys, most of the time the armour covers everything up. For girls would be cool. Asura’s already have facial markings so I think implementing tattoos would not be much problem.
Sorry, my mistake with the Order Banners. You need 3 characters, not 3 accounts. And you are right, it would be enjoyable to get another 2 characters up to get the other order banners. Already have priory with my Ele, will get Vigil when my guardian levels up, maybe will create a Ranger for Whispers.
I like the idea of Account Medals. Something that you see when you are in the character selection screen and which is not only pretty but also in a way, motivates you to play to unlock these medals.
Currently there are 7 of these medals:
World Completion
Durmond Priory, Vigil, Order of Whispers,
PvP rank, Realm Avenger, Legendary Treasures
You don’t really need to get these medals. They don’t seem to give you anything more in game than what you got trying to achieve these medals.
That being said, I will never get 3 of the 7 listed medals, because I do not PvP, and I might just not be able to get a forth as it also involves PvP. Cause the medals actually go like this:
World Completion – (PvP+PvE) -> unless my server owns the ground, not compelting
Durmond Priory, Vigil, Order of Whispers, – (PvE) – done using 3 accounts
PvP rank, Realm Avenger, Legendary Treasures – (PvP) – Legendary Treasures also involve PvE.
For the pure PvE player, I would like to suggest the addition of the following account medals:
1) Dungeon Master – Complete all Dungeons in Story and Explorer Mode
2) Sigil of the Mason – Get all 6 crafting skills to 400 (account bound)
3) Riddle Master – Complete all mini jumping puzzles and (from a very good previous suggestion: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Treasure-maps ) find all treasures.
Actually every time I go to a map with a Dungeon or to Lion’s Arch I always see people spamming LFG on the chat channel. I myself had to do just that a couple of days ago (then I was banned from messaging as I had exceeded my limit) to run SE story mode. It took me about 30mins to finally get a group together and as we were entering SE I saw someone standing outside of it who then PM’d me asking if there was an extra space. I had to turn the person down.
It no longer seems easy to find PUGs for dungeons, be they hard or not. For example we had a tough time with the golems but stuck with it. We lost a player, but the player who replaced him was experienced with the dungeon and brought us through.
I experienced the same thing with AC. Kept getting wiped at the Twins until we gave up. Later, I joined a PUG who had a couple of vets and we just hammered the twins.
Back, to the point. I really agree that as this game matures we really need a LFG finder like WoW. This has already been discussed on the Suggestions Forum and responded to by an ANET staff, though.
I hope to see this in-game soon. But won’t be holding my breath.
I would like to add in. There is no achievement for free as some claim.
BTW, when you go PvP you go straight to lvl 80 (for free btw).
I side with the OP. You do most of the exploring and more than half the map in PvE. Then the last bits you are forced to do PvP. Doing 100% map completion in PvE is not something you can breeze through. If you have completed your “world” map then you know this to be the case.
There are no rights in the game.
And Amnon please stop mixing “simple” with “fun”. Your case is a “Straw Man” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man
This is a game. There is a win-win situation except for those who like to prevent others from reaching a win state just to stroke their own kitten. No one says it should be easy, but as a game it should be fun.
The OP, Rise and others have far more valid suggestions and arguments for why 100% completion should be achievable by everyone rather than “please don’t let people compete with me cause I’m l33t”.
And no, it would not make me feel 100 times better to play a playstyle I don’t want to play just to complete an achievement that should be accessible to everyone.
Again, please stop mixing “easy/simple” with “fun”.
I for one would support the argument of having, 100% PvP, !00% PvE server and no Mist map completion. In other words, I’m one of those who feels that people should be given a chance to succeed at whatever they feel is fun to do. Not just because they want to be l33t at the expense of others.
Botter reporting - any way to find out the result?

This seems good cause yesterday when I was at Blood Tide Coast I saw so many bot groups running around that I thought GW2 had become a bot test site. I.e. a game where you test all your bot scripts and skills before you go on to make money off other MMOs.
I like the Guild repair smith idea.
Also, there should be rewards for Guilds who have members who have all completed all the story mode Dungeons. In a way this encourages older members to help new recruits through the story mode of Dungeons and as the game matures and it becomes harder and harder to find pugs to do story mode, it encourages players to join Guilds (this games is called *Guild*Wars2 after all.)
I would also like to see:
Guild Hall
Guild Tabard (optional display.)
Guild rank next your character name in-game (optional, select to show or not)
Maybe even a design your own guild armour competition for guilds. Purely cosmetic, and needing a guild of a certain age and influence to be able to create.
I would really like to see a Dungeon finder UI in game. Something that lets me queue for a dungeon without being at the dungeon itself. Right now as pointed out in another thread its getting harder and harder to find groups doing story mode dungeon runs. This could possibly help to alleviate the problem.
Also, sometimes spamming LFG in the map chat irritates players who are not looking for a Dungeon run.
One thing that really pulled me into ME3 was the story brought out emotions in the player because of having relationships with NPCs in game. For example, when I played ME2 I romanced Tali and thought that was cool.
But in ME3 there is a situation where you have to choose between letting the AI achieve sentience and having the Quarian fleet destroy the Geth. In other words you had to choose between your friends Legion (a Geth) and Tali (a Quarian.) First time through (I didn’t read the forums or spoilers) I was thinking it would be ok to let the Geth have sentience, then negotiate peace between the Geth and Quarians. What happened was the Geth got their sentience and destroyed the Quarian fleet. Tali was so shattered that she committed suicide by jumping of the cliff in front of my player character. As a player I was so taken aback by what just happened in game that I nearly wanted to throw my ME3 box at the screen and swear never to play the game again. That was until I realized that I have a previously saved game (which was saved sometime back.) Then I went through the whole mission again just to save Tali this time around.
I never realized that a game could bring out such emotions in a gamer. And this is the one thing that I feel is somewhat lacking in GW2. There is simply very little “feeling,” in this game for the world around you, the NPCs you are supposed to be helping and the world you are supposed to be defending.
I like the fact that GW2 forces you to learn an encounter. But sometimes I wish that the learning curve was not that steep. For example, it was only at the end of the battle in the Queens throne room as part of the Durmond Priory quest to safeguard the queen from the undead, with all my armour gone did I finally manage to learn how to use the stupid priory device properly.
I read Destiny’s Edge before headstart so that when I started playing the game I would be a bit more immersed in the GW2 universe.
Currently I’m leveling a Human Elementalist (my main) and a Asura Guardian (my Jute gatherer). The personal storyline for my main started out slow and at times seemed impossible to finish.
Trying to do the personal story I’ve 100% explored 4 zones so far. During my time exploring I’ve hardly come across reference to the war with the Dragons. I’ve fought centuars, weird mer-creatures, the bloody barracudas, bears, ettins, etc. Basically the entire world of Tyria has been trying to kill me.
The only dragon spawn I’ve fought were the Risen. Seems that everybody is fighting everybody else while the Dragons and their minions are a distant thunder cloud. Seen and heard but not felt.
There are references to Dragons in the personal story once you get past the Circus quest.
Shouldn’t there be more of a tie in with the overall story? Shouldn’t there be more influence by the dragons? Shouldn’t we be friends with the centuars to fight the dragons instead of fighting each other?
I had the same problem last night. Doing the last part of the human story line “Orders of Tyria”, I’m level 33 Elementalist, got scaled down to 28 or so and was given this stupid weapon by the priory. Kept dying so much that all my armour got destroyed. In the end I managed to complete it solo but when the cut-scene came up I was in my boxer shorts talking to Logan. I think there might have been an easier way to do this but, WTH?
I second this proposal. I would like to see some romance options sort of like ME3. But then again this is an MMO so if you really want to romance someone you can always romance a player character.
The problem is you never know who’s male, female, young, old or FBI.
I do solo PvE and mist form does not do anything for me unless there’s someone there to take aggro away from me. Or the mist form allows me to jump off something where the mobs cannot follow. Also waiting for mist form to charge up really is annoying. I’m sitting there just waiting to be killed using everything else that I have. I love playing an Elementalist cause they are squishy. But sometimes I think they are too squishy.
I’m having the same problem. Seems that Jute scraps are the rarest drops in the world. I’m lvl 33 and have outlevelled my tailoring. So I went back to the starting area to farm jute scraps thinking that the low level mobs would drop low level gear. After killing alot of bandits I managed to salvage 5 jute scraps. The surprising part is that these lvl 8 bandits drop lvl 26 items. I can’t get them to drop low level armour. When I started playing I was salvaging drops to get mats but then I had to face a trade-off, salvage items or sell them to make some money. After awhile I decided to sell stuff as I needed the money. Now I can’t get these low-level items to salvage.
