Lightning flash. Useful?

This is one of those utility skills that I rarely find use for. In fact, I don’t even know what it’s there for. I can use other utility skills to remove conditions. I can use weapon skills/dodge to get out of the way of mobs. Why do I need this utility skill?
When I first got this skill I thought I could use it to teleport to platforms in jump puzzles like some of the other classes. But I quickly found out that, that was not possible. I can’t even port across a small gap.

So what’s the point of lightning flash?

With the large number of posts regarding the PvP as part of the monthlies, I don’t think it was a minority. And they had already given way to a vocal “minority” of PvP players who wanted their own monthlies.

sPvP players having their own monthlies and dailies is reasonable, because they have a completely different set of progression laid out for them.

WvW on the other hand is not PvP, it’s better to call it a ‘PvE race’ with enemy players roaming around.

Are you serious?
Which English dictionary are you using (ok, you might be using the ANET one)?

PvP means player versus player. In other words when one player goes up against another player (kills another player.) It does not matter, if the players are in ANETs structured PvP zone or their open PvP zone (also called the WvWvW Mists.)
“PvE race”? Race to do what, exactly? Capture forts and supply points? And how do you exactly do that? Kill some mobs before the “enemy player” kills them?

So you’re telling me that games like Darkfall (), EvE online are not PvP games, since they don’t have structured arena based PvP but in fact are actually PvE racing games with enemy players.

Please stop dehumanizing people, they are already dehumanized enough in games because they sit behind toons. Thinking of them as just some AI controlled PvE mobs that you need to take out, leads to mid-level twinks going into lowbie zones and ganking everyone.

PvE achievements should be in PvE achievement tabs.
PvP achievements should be in PvP achievement tabs.
And if the sPvP game play is so different from everyone else then they should have their own achievement tab.

Please don’t come here and tell me that WvWvW is a “PvE race” with enemy players. Cause I would really love to see a vid of you running around in a contested zone doing your racing without other enemy players trying to challenge you.

BTW for your and ANET’s reference:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Player_versus_player
No where is there a mention that PvP is only in reference to ANET’s structured PvP.

Jumping Puzzles as Norn and Charr

I have (had) this issue with the JP in the Mists Borderlands. I have a human, an Asura and a Norn character. And doing the JP as a Norn is a real pain. The camera keesp getting stuck. At certain points the camera actually tends to jump around, even though my character is standing still. At the jumping point up to the 1st Chest (lower key I think), closer to the entrance I have to carefully manage my camera as well as my character. I usually do not have any issues with my human character, but my Asura sometimes faces camera issues as well.

You are not being forced into anything. You only think so because you refuse to make any kind of effort towards completing monthly.

You’re sounding just like those who demanded WvW to be taken out of monthly rotation. And the developers made a gargantuan mistake by giving into this demand from a vocal minority.

We’re gonna reach a point where they’re gonna hand us legendary weapons just for buying the game at this rate.

With the large number of posts regarding the PvP as part of the monthlies, I don’t think it was a minority. And they had already given way to a vocal “minority” of PvP players who wanted their own monthlies.

Although I can empathize with the OP, I can’t sympathize. For months now I have not been able to complete monthlies because I don’t PvP.
Even after a separate PvP Monthly category was included, it was only meant for the sPvP crowd and for some unknown reason did not include WvW. Which was still kept in the normal Monthly category with all the other achievements being PvE achievements.
In that time I managed to complete my monthly only once because I was doing world completion and trying to get those Badges of Honor (for legendary). Finally, ANET has decided to give the PvE only crowd a break and not force us to PvP if we wanted to do the monthlies. Now the monthlies are actually part of my game-play and I don’t even really think about them as I play.
Yes, finding groups for dungeons can be a pain, but as 1 poster mentioned, gw2lfg.com. I actually managed to find a group and complete COE story mode (ok there was only 4 of us.) And I think the new monthlies might be partially credited for that. Within an hour last night I completed AC Exp path 1 and 2. So within 6 days in Feb, I’ve already completed more than half the requirement for this monthly achievement (vs the previous 15 FOTM runs and I forget how many player kills.)
For those that don’t like Dungeons, I can empathize. But like the PvP crowd used to tell me. Just bite the bullet and do it, you don’t have to like it but if you want your monthly than too bad.

Finally. No PvP needed.
I actually have a hope of getting this monthly.
WvW should go under the Monthly PvP tab.
And no I do not find it hard. Although 500 items to salvage is a pain but not a royal one and it is a monthly so you have a month to do it.

Falcon Night.4653

I’ve noticed since the November 15th patch, that the rare drops out in the open world have become even rarer. Since then I think I’ve only managed to get 1 exotic. FOTM seemed to have better rare drops. That was until the recent patch.
Ran FOTM after the recent patch and all I got was blues from chests and nothing but very, very few whites from mobs.
Ran COE story mode yesterday, and after more than an hour of frustrating dungeon running came away with 1 rare and the rest all blues. I vendored the blues, and tried to salvage the rare (cause I couldn’t sell it) but didn’t get a single ecto from it.
That’s been my experience when it comes to ectos. Since Nov 15th I’ve yet to get an ecto from salvaging a rare drop. I think I’ve salvaged over 10 mob drop rares since then. Nowadays, I don’t bother salvaging rare drops, I just TP them and let someone else try their luck.
Also, since the last patch T5 crafting mats seem to be harder to come by. I can usually get 5 to 10 large bones from farming events in Orr for my dailies (26% MF, food.) But now even with 40% MF (food), I can barely get 3. The prices on the TP also seem to be reflecting this as T5 mats seem to be climbing steadily. Doubled in price over 2 weeks.

To Grind or not to Grind.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Falcon Night.4653

I just received a call from my brother who used to be quite hardcore into WoW, regarding the Firefall beta this weekend. He asked me if I was joining in. What I told him was, “maybe, I have to grind for my badges of honor and karma.” He started laughing. He went, “dude weren’t you the one who used to call me out for grinding armor in WoW. And how GW2 was supposed to be oh-so different.” And that got me thinking.

I’m grinding karma, and BoH for my Bifrost. Something which I thought I would never do from the start of the introduction of legendaries (cause it involves PvP.) And when I saw the requirements I knew it would be a major grind. However, once I finished Map completion (which is something else which I thought I’d never do) and got the gift of Exploration, I told myself, why not get the gift of Mastery and try of the Bifrost. And now here I am grinding for the Gift of Mastery.

I’ve played WoW, Eve and a couple of other MMOs. But I’ve never been involved in a grind such as the grind for a Legendary in GW2. People say, that you don’t have to “it’s just a skin.” But the why did ANET come up with a special post for them. Also, ok my exotic staff has the same stats (well until the upgrade the legendaries to Ascend status.)

And then there is the actual gear grind for Ascended gear. Its similar to gear grinds in WoW. Grind the same things for higher stat equipment. It’s not just a skin anymore.

Oh well.
TL;DR off the play Firefall Beta this weekend.

Paid Transfers is not such a good idea. Why not just not allow people who transfer servers to play in WvW for one week. This would stop people from transferring for WvW purposes.

It means money for the company and share holders….that’s why.

This isn’t some new evil plot to make more money. This was the way it was in Beta and as it was always planned to be. They have been very kind and allowed free transfers for significantly longer then they originally planned. From what I remember the original plan was to stop free transfers 1 month after launch.

It is a way to make money though, but a reasonable one given they will be implementing guesting. Unless you want to change servers for WvW purposes you can just simply guest on another server. God knows I’ve got my complaints about anet but this isn’t one of them except the length of time its taken to implement.

To add:
Changing servers for map completion purposes. Especially for those would are PvE only players.
And for those PvP players whose servers are more often than not on the loosing end. Sorry, but you can’t conquer an entire PvP map by yourself. And your friends are usually more interested in running Fractals than doing PvP.

As a 100% pve player the 2013 promises sound great. Only thing im missing is the promise to have veterans and champions drop loot, and preferably slightly valuable loot.
Pssst that will encourage that community thing, you know players helping eachother. When I started playing players said in map where champs roamed and players actually went there to kill it. Now I have seen players ask for help to kill a champ and the answer they get is: its not worth it. More and more people realise this and there are thus so many ignored champs out there.

As a PvE player myself, I am somewhat interested in the new features. But there is one that was not addressed, “monthly achievements still need you to PvP.”
The blog post only mentions dailies and no changes to monthlies.

The real reason for nerfing AoE

I will never ever buy gems simply becuase of these underhanded tactics. When the game first came out I bought $50 worth and was eager to spend them…but now I see Anet forcing us to go down this route simply because earning any kind of gold is so incredibly time consuming…They should be very very wary. Once a player leaves a game..it takes an enormous amount of persuasion so ever bring them back and the fact is there are lots of chocies out there with even more due on the horizon. I relaise they have to make money, but it should not be done in such an underhanded way.

I see no changes made to the game that could force anyone to buy gems. I don’t see any reason why buying gems would solve ANY problem you could possibly face in the game. In fact it’s for this very reason that I am doubtful that you ever bought gems in the first place.

Learn to sell valuables, gather, craft and sell for profit before you complain that making money is impossible. When you actually learn how to play, then you can criticize the mechanics of the game, before that day however – you should stop with the conspiracy theories.

Also. spend money on gems and orr being the only way to get money?? I hope you’re joking… Otherwise I wonder how stupid your parents had to be to pass on the stupid gene.

What in your divine experience are good ways to make money in a way that does not require ridiculous amounts of time consuming farming? The floor is yours.

Exploring, dungeons, fractals, crafting, gathering, buying with intent to make profit.

You don’t have to be a genius to realize that you’re incompetent at money making. How do you think people earn the money to buy the tier 3 cultural gear. Stop complaining about things you have no knowledge of.

I’m sure we should all bow down to your exalted genius, and your so competent and ingenious, highly experienced ability to play a GAME.
In sure you’re not so stupid enough to pass of your GAME-play ability as making you a towering paragon of virtue in real-life.
But as for the OPs point of ANET getting people to use the gem store more. I am actually in agreement. I use AOE alot in Orr and in dungeons so I can tag more mobs and farm mats/gold/etc. In the limited gameplay time that I have. Even running fractals I do use AOE. In fact one of my ele’s defensive protection spells is my Meteor storm.
Unless you are willingly blind, there are alot of things that are going on that are pointing more and more to the gem store (no more free world transfers, for 1.)
Nearly all conspiracy have at least a small grain of truth hidden somewhere. Those with at least half-a brain would take sometime to see if it is there before offhandedly discounting everything and calling the theorist stupid.

World transfer, PvE and World Completion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Falcon Night.4653

Falcon Night.4653

As a PvE player the only way I managed to get my world completion done is by transferring servers twice. This was the solution given to us PvE players to accomplish world completion by PvP players and others. My original server was not bad at PvP but there was no way they could capture the entire map (all 3 borderlands + Eternal Battlegrounds.)

Now I’m actually at my 4th server which I decided to join because my original server was full and a few friends of mine had just picked up GW2 and had started playing on this current server.

The problem of PvE players accomplishing world completion has been brought up before, with no serious response from ANET and response from the player base as being “either play my playstyle or get out.” Now with the non-free transfers it has become even harder for PvE players to complete the map.
This not only affects PvE players but also those who enjoy PvP but find themselves in servers which are not so good at it. The solution of “become better at it” does not really work because from what I’ve seen, these servers are more filled with people who do not have an interest in PvP.

In a game that aims to embrace and enhance all playstyles this: “play my PvP playstyle or get out” attitude stands out in stark contrast.

Daily achievement Monthly Achievement

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Falcon Night.4653

Falcon Night.4653

As quoted from the article:
“We’ll add support so daily achievements will be different each day of the week, which will help drive players to different areas of the world and play together. Later, we’ll also be adding a system that lets you complete a subgroup of achievements to fulfill your daily. For example, if there are 6 daily achievements available, you’ll only need to do 4 of the 6, so you can choose the achievements that you’re most interested in.”

I think this is great. I’ve been grinding the same daily achievements for months now. But I didn’t realize that anyone had actually complained about this, or if this was even an issue.
However, alot of people including me have complained about the Monthly achievements. How as a PvE player we can’t get these because they involve killing other people. There is already a Monthly PvP (which for some reason does not include WvW,) but there is no Monthly PvE. Please stop dehumanizing players by lumping them under “mobs to kill for achievement”. Think there is already a debate going: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/184816/Vice_President_Bidens_warning_to_the_video_game_industry.php

What happened to: “Community and player relationships are key components to what makes Guild Wars 2 tick, and will be a massive part of the game as we evolve it further.” ?

I really do like most of the changes coming. But making people go into the Mists for reasons such as Map Completion, Legendaries and Monthly achievements still irks me.

P.S.: I actually think this:
“Our shared loot system, dynamic level adjustment system, shared resource nodes, multi-player skill combos, and the ability for every player to revive one another are all examples of key game features that help support this concept of a community-driven experience.”
and this:
“you’re fighting for control of Stonemist Castle in WvW, where each fight can play out differently.”
Are actually contradictory. One says you help each other out, the other says you kill each other (well ok, maybe kill each other with the help of your friends.)

The tragedy of Orr

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Falcon Night.4653

I do not like Orr. Didn’t want to go back after finishing the map. But according to people its the best place to farm events for karma. mat and the few silvers that you get. So now I’m actually there pretty much farming mats and karma at the 2 camps. Sometimes I wonder outside and do other events. But other than farming I don’t really like being there much. After awhile, if my play time lets me, I switch over to my other characters and go explore the low level zones. So my daily game play time is: Complete daily, do jump puzzle in mists (on 3 characters), then if I still have time, farm Orr for mats or go do map completion on my other toons.

Guild Wars 2 Ultra Casual / TP Legendary's

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Falcon Night.4653

Falcon Night.4653

919h+ on main, 1172h or smth overall, player since beta. Who cares how people obtain their legendary, they can pay for it if they want to, I finished my Sunrise last week and I know how much effort I put into it, so it has a much bigger meaning/value to me. I think it took me around 2 months. It’s not a status symbol, you won’t get any more respect if you suck. It’s just a nice looking skin that only costs a lot of money and RNG.

About the unobtainable legendary for casuals, I have a full time job and I enjoy my weekends, there are times I don’t have time to play at all after work. Since I value my time I have for playing, I spend it only on stuff I enjoy. For getting the mats needed for legendary, I didn’t farm Orr, never touched TP, did flipping/etc, never spent a dime on goldsellers/gemshop. I don’t enjoy that. It’s like having a second job, that actually doesn’t give you any income. I got all of my gold/karma/half of lodestones from dungeons and casual gameplay. Also jumping badges ftw.

It required quite a bit of dedication and more grind that I liked, but OP is wrong, you don’t need to be some überrich/TP playa/goldbuyer to get yourself a legendary as a casual. Since the addition of karma jugs/dungeons giving karma/etc 1mil karma is supereasy to obtain. Skillpoints are a bit of a problem, but you should have enough as a long time player and you can always use fractal tokens to get those faster aswell. Alternative is just to create a new character and explore a bit. Atleast 1/4 T6 come from clover recipe, depends on how unlucky you are with clover RNG, rest can be bought from TP. Ectos come from random rare/exo drops from dungeons and guaranteed rares you buy for dungeon tokens. Getting 100g for icy runestones shouldn’t take you more than about a 1-2 weeks of casual gameplay. Lodestones/precursor are definitely the most painful part of legendary. I’ve pretty much mastered CoE thanks to farming charged cores/lodestones and I know the pain to buy them from TP. I lucked out with the precursor, since I got it for free and I didn’t have to spent time with it. Would have probably added another month in RNG/gathering gold for it, but still doable.

How did you get 100g as a casual gamer enjoying the rest of the game without farming? I have about at most 3hrs a day to play, I don’t really like to farm, so I keep switching characters, from my main to my other 2. And there is no way that I’ve made 100g in the 3 months that I’ve been playing, let alone in 1-2 weeks.
When I started I didn’t want a legendary as it meant PvP for both world completion and badges of honor. But I’ve managed to do world completion without actually having to PvP (I decided on this after I completed the PvE map,) by switching servers. And I found out that you can get badges from the jumping puzzle.
But to me nearly everything else for a Bifrost, seems to be way off. 500 tokens from Arah Exp? Then there is that 77 cloves, 500 ectos, etc.
But seriously I would really like to know how to get 100g from 1-2 weeks of casual game play. Dungeon running? 25s per run?

Creating Legendary items needs to be changed

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Falcon Night.4653

Some people here seem to be of the opinion that Legendaries are not meant for the average player. Only for the uber, super elite, so that they can prance about and sow it off to people while calling them noobs (this is a really gross generalization, cause I’ve met a bunch of great people who do have legendaries.)
But seriously, this is a game. In the real world, some people own Ferraries, date hot models, fly across the globe in their personal jets and most others sit and stare at “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.” That’s the way the world works. So why bring RL into the virtual world. I play games to get away from real-life not to be reminded of it.
I personally think Legendaries are a huge grind that the average player has no interest in getting (because its a huge grind.) A player like me who has at most 3hrs of playtime per day (if that) and trying to grind out Honor badges, karma, money, mats and Arah tokens (I shiver to think about doing this,) just detracts from any fun. Then when you have all your gifts, you need to either get lucky or grind more money to get the precursor.

Just to add in my observation:
Before the Nov 15th update I was getting the odd rare, in nearly every other play session. I.e. 3hr per day play session. Also, an exotic drop every once in awhile. Now since Nov 15th, I managed to find 3 rares, not in the dungeons though. Some boss drops, some open world mob drops (Orr).

However, the biggest difference I’ve seen is in the “Incandescent dust”/“Crystalline dust” drops. Incandescent dust, used to drop for me quiet frequently at least 3/4 per play session. Now, I’m lucky to receive 1 for every 2 play sessions. I don’t particularly farm these drops (I actively try to avoid farming these days,) I just run DEs which have alot of mobs (ok, Orr has alot of mobs.) But its as if the anti-farming code has kicked in map wide or at least on my account. Nowadays it seems that out of the 20 risen I kill, I get 1 dust, alot of porous skulls, maybe 1 item (blue usually) and mostly nothing.
The boss/vet fights were bad. I helped to take out the brood mother and got nothing for it. Took out a risen troll and got nothing for it. I really mean nothing, not even a white. Except for that 1 time when I got a rare.

Storyline Quest. The point?

in Personal Story

Posted by: Falcon Night.4653

Falcon Night.4653

I was really excited when I 1st found out that GW2 had a story quest that tied into the game. And that the story quest would affect your world (well at least your personal instance in the cities.)This was before launch.

I’ve been playing since headstart and at first I was really intrigued by the quest line. It seemed to have twists and turns. Also, alot of difficulty bumps. But I persevered through, my human and then Durmond Priory story line. For the longest time I’ve felt that although the personal story was good it was not fully fleshed out. There are some parts of the story that simply don’t go anywhere once the quest is done. For example what happened to the Big-Ghiz Whorl (I think) inventor and who was he working for? I ran CM not only to complete the dungeon but to also find out if CM story mode would actually tie into this. Nothing doing.

But now that I’m reaching the end (did Arah story mode but hadn’t gotten to that point in my personal story,) I’m left wondering what it was all about. That is, what is the point of completing the personal story other than gaining the satisfaction that you completed it.

I find no emotional attachment to any character in my personal story (unlike ME2/ME3) and could really care less if they lived or died. I’ve been back to my personal instance all of 3 times since completing that part of the personal story and didn’t notice any difference.

Also, I find out that the end of the personal story is the Arah Dungeon story mode. And you run it as a normal story mode dungeon.

So really, I’m left wondering, what was the point of the storyline quest?
It guides you from zone to zone? It only guided me to a few zones. I nearly finished map completion (1 poi and 1 vista left in the mists) without really focusing on the story.
It introduces you to characters in the game lore? You don’t really run across any of them outside of the story quests.
It gives you an advantage in the Arah story mode Dungeon? Not as far as I know.

More materialistically:
It helps you gain some equipment/skin/etc that’s not found elsewhere? Nope.
It gives you some token that goes into your Legendary? Nope, not as far as I know. I mean, come on, you farm 500 tokens in the mist and get the Gift of Battle (from what I heard, if you are a mist warrior, that’s not exactly hard to do, just time consuming.) Farm 500 tokens from Arah Exp mode to get the Gift of Zaitan (biggest challenge here is to actually find a group and path 3.) Yet you go through the entire story chain from level 1 to 80 and come out of it with Black Lion keys, some RNG items (usually greens and not always useful).

How the WvW stole PvE

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I’ve always been for separating PvE and PvP game play. Let PvP players have their open world PvP + mists on a separate server. And let the PvE players play on a separate server. PvP players get all the PvP monthlies, dailies, legendary etc, without getting out of PvP.
PvE players get all the monthlies, dailies, legendary etc without the need to PvP.
I really don’t see the need for ANET to “force” people into playing a certain playstyle that they don’t like (no one bring up the manifesto..), just so that they can achieve some end game content. As the OP pointed out what’s the point of playing the game if you can’t (because it’s not how you define “fun”) play the “optional” part of the game.

On the subject of Precursors for Legendaries. I’ve been seeing Legendaries shown on the TP for highest traded items (for about 3200g or so.) So why bother with the precursors, if you can buy the Legendaries right off. (Saw Dusk on CD, and all the legendaries listed on Isle of Janthir.)

GW2LFG is good. Only thing is, the need to Alt-Tab out of game to post or to see who has posted, when you are ready to go dungeon running. I haven’t personally used it. And the last couple of weeks my client has been DC’ing so much that I don’t dare run dungeons. But I guess it’s better than what ANET has currently.

Just tried changing servers. No luck.

The really funny thing is, I can see other players moving around, involved in combat, etc. I on the other hand have my abilities completely frozen, keep getting hit by invisible enemies, cannot heal, cannot fight back. Then after awhile, if I’m lucky I get reconnected, else it boots me out to the character select screen. With a notice that my client just disconnected.

Also, I can see other players chatting in the chat box. But I can’t type anything in.

Falcon Night.4653

This is not like any lag I’ve experienced in the game before. Previously, I knew I was experiencing lag because my FPS would drop considerably.

Now my FPS is fine, at times its perfect. The only way I know my client lost connection is when I try to activate one of my abilities such as Windborne Speed and the icon just keeps flashing, with nothing else happening. I can keep moving, in the Mists I can even see the green points on the map that are other players moving. But after awhile I suddenly get yanked back to the previous location where I was at. As if the client and server lost sync and when the sync was re-established the client took the last server know position as my current position.

In other cases, when I get attacked by mobs and I run away (cause my abilities refuse to fire,) the mobs still continue the attack, even though I can’t see them anymore. My health keeps decreasing and there is nothing I can do about it. I just wait it out, till the server and client reconnect and hope I’m not defeated.

It kept happening so consistently on both my characters last night that I finally decided to give up and go watch a movie.

Its seems to be happening consistently now. Every 10 mins or so, in the mists or out, the client looses connection for awhile, then gets it back.
In the Mists, I’ve also been in situations where I’ve suddenly been instant killed, and not by anyone or anything. Just a small drop, which should only take away a few HP suddenly kills me. Then I cannot WP back. I have to get out of the mists. Then things seems fine except I’m stuck with a repair bill.

Linking all servers together for PvE

In CD, I sometimes have the same feeling as the OP. I’ve mapped out all the PVE zones and now to do dailies I actually wp from zone to zone. Sometimes I come across people in the low level zones but usually they feel empty. Map chat except for that infrequent lfg dungeon, is basically dead. WvW is full but PvE somehow seems a bit dead.

P.S.: Orr seems to be ok, with groups running around. And the winters day dungeon is now full of people.

For those who have done it congratulations, ANET decided to design the game just for you, again.

I’m a lvl 80 Ele and have solo’d about half the Orr map points. Some places, especially for some skill points I really needed help. Also, to get the temple POIs and WPs I joined a group that was taking the temple down (and people keep saying there are no raids in GW2.)
I finally managed to finish the Orr maps and never wanted to go back there again. Now I actually go there to do the events for my dailies cause the karma reward is higher than doing events in lower level zones. I also go there to mine ore and chop trees. But I’m thinking of camping out in the Lost Shores for this too.
The killing 100 mobs and getting at max 2 kill variety for the daily accomplishment is so true.
Also, the aesthetics of the place is really depressing.
I really hate Orr.

I have been searching for new guild. So if anyone can suggest a Guild in CD who can replace my need for an LFG tool please let me know. BTW, I usually play around 9pm (GMT+8), until about 11pm (have to work the next day.)

I’ve had problems finding groups to run story mode. For the last 1 month or so. Ever since FOTM came up, its just gotten worse.
I used to get lucky on the weekends but now, not so lucky to get a group going. I’ve pretty much given up running dungeons on story mode. So far I’ve done CM, HoTW, AC, TA and now I’m stuck cause I can’t get to do CoF, CE and Arah in storymode.

I’m hoping for a cross server lfg tool. Cause it seems there are plenty of people who want to do these, but that they are just spread across servers and timezones.

Staff Ele and Traits question

in Elementalist

Posted by: Falcon Night.4653

Falcon Night.4653

I’ve been playing a staff Ele for the past 3 months now and have leveled my character to 80 as a staff Ele. My traits are 30 Fire/ 20 Earth / 20 Water.

My armour and weapons on the other hand are a mix of power/vit/toughness/precision/condition damage/crit damage/healing.

Was doing fine till I reached Orr. For some reason, I get the feeling that I’m not speccing correctly. For example, it took me forever to take out a lvl 80 Veteran. And if that Veteran is a ranged caster with an add, I’m usually dead.

My skills at running the Ele are average at best, I’ll readily admit.

So my questions are:
1) Is this a good trait build for a staff Ele?

2) Should I stop mixing the armour stats and just focus on Power/Vit/Toughness, to go along with my traits?

3) I’m also thinking of going D/D cause I’ve read somewhere else that this is a better solo build. I’ve tried this before, but ended up missing the ability to take out a ranged mob and a melee mob at the same time. So should I try a D/D instead?

4) I’ve also read somewhere that toughness does not really do anything much for Eles. Is this true? Personally, I find that in certain situations it gives more survivability.

Thanks.

P.S.: I only PvE. I do not PvP.

What should be in ANets monthly achievement?

I am not talking about tasks for us to complete but what should ANet be prioritising?

Here is my list of the most urgent get it in PDQ changes/updates that I want to see. I understand it is not practical to get all this in before January but I am an optimist! They are in my order of priority!

Roll out ascended items game wide, especially in WvW
Introduce Guesting
Rewards for WvW aligned to PvE
Deploy a functional cross server LFG tool
Implement Guild Functionality
Make being in a guild more meaningful through some change to game
Fractals – Enable players who are booted to rejoin
DE Debugs..Especially Meta events like Baltazar
Update personal story whereby we can chop off Trehearne’s Head

I second the last one.

What is with the Monthly Achievement?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Falcon Night.4653

Falcon Night.4653

I get you point, and it would make a good suggestion. However, if one category of monthly is stated as PVP and one is not then the latter could and should be considered NON-PvP.

I guess you are not familiar with the GW2-specific terminology. In GW2 PvP doesn’t refer to all player-killing activities, it’s actually used for the structured pvp. If you look under your achievement tab, you’ll notice that there is a PvP Conqueror category and a separate one ofr World vs World. Furthermore, both the daily and the monthly PvP achievements can only be completed in sPvP(every single activity required is only present there) and give only sPvP related rewards(tournament tickets, glory boosters, pvp salvage kits…none of those has any use outside sPvP). While I can see where the confusion comes from, making claims without bothering to do your research is extremely ignorant.

I looked into the Daily/Monthly PvP achievement before posting and I did see that the requirements were sPvP oriented. However, to me (and to alot of people I’ve come across over the years gaming, including industry writers, game developers, game designers) sPvP or WvWvW is still PvP no matter how you spin it.

PvP is short for Player-versus-Player. As in a system where one team, group or individual is pitted against another team, group or individual to achieve certain goals. Usually these goals boil down to taking out (“killing”) the opposing player/s. As long as it involves Players “killing” other Players, then it is PvP.

ANET’s stated goal for GW2 has been to make this game into an eSport and I guess this is the way they are trying to achieve this. They then should have named the achievement Monthly/Daily eSport or Monthly/Daily sPvP.

If ANET and GW2 doesn’t use the same terminology as the rest of the gamming industry especially when it pertains to the definition of PvP, then its hardly the posters fault. ANET should have published their dictionary of terminologies along with their “Manifesto”. The only ignorance in evidence here, is therefore, a lack of understanding between the definition of PvE and PvP, as stated by the industry.

I do not PvP. That’s why I never bothered with the Monthly before. Now that there is an actual PvP monthly, why are PvE players still “forced” to participate in PvP for their monthly achievement.

And again, what’s with making people run Fractals? Is the dungeon that bad, that you have to reward players with 45k karma for running it, so that more people would play?

Please do not have FOTM on the monthly

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Falcon Night.4653

Falcon Night.4653

Oh, for multitude of reasons:

1. Posting on this thread takes 5 seconds as compared to 15 mins of finding grp and 1 hour of completing the fractals itself (assuming it goes smoothly, I’ve got an ENTIRE party disconnected on the final boss before… it ain’t pretty.)
2. People live in different time zone, have different real world schedules.
3. Do you really expect players who have no interest in dungeon runs in the first place to do fractals run that are meant for the hardcore ‘raider’ groups?

Are they even interested in the rewards that supposedly enable them to ‘run further, higher level content in the fractals?’

Face it, Lost Shores added nothing for the casuals.

1. Agreed. Complaining is by far easier than looking for a solution.
2. I’m pretty sure GW2 has more players than there are timezones in the world. But I might be wrong….
3. Lvl1 fotm is meant for who now?

No, but they might be interested in, say, gold, T6 mats, ectos, exotic gear…

1. Solutions have already been mentioned. Several times in several threads. But no dev seems to be listening. So the complaining.
2. Sure, more players than timezones. Also players from same timezone spread out across different servers. Also, players from same timezones have different playstyles (casual/hardcore/PvP/PvE/solo/group/Dungeon runners/non-Dungeon runners.)
3. Don’t know. Haven’t tried since launch of Fotm. Now everyone seems to be looking for higher level FOTM runs. Seem these people have alot of time on their hands. So your guess is as good as mine.

I recall you can get T6 mats/exotic gear/etc from Orr.

Again, solution:
1. Put Player Invader kills into Monthly PvP
2. Replace Fractals with Dungeon runs. (Any dungeon run.)

What is with the Monthly Achievement?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Falcon Night.4653

Falcon Night.4653

We now have Daily, Daily PvP, Monthly and Monthly PvP achievements. This is great. Except for a couple of things.

1. Why does Monthly achievement still require PvP, as in killing players in WvW? We already have a Monthly PvP achievement. Effectively PvP players get their fun without needing to PvE, but PvE players are forced to PvP, if they want monthly achievements.

2. Why only Fractal dungeon runs? What about the other Dungeons? So now, it’s even harder to find groups for the other Dungeons?

I realized sometime ago that ANET and GW2 are pro-pvp, that’s why I’ve never really bothered about the monthlies. And I’ve pretty much lost interest in legendaries. But seriously, are you guys really that against your PvE player base?

After seeing the video Manifesto and reading up on this game I was hyping it up to my friends and my brother.
One of my friends started to play and quit cause he got bored, this was before Lost Shores. Went back to WoW.
My brother has been a WoW player for years now. Has absolutely no interest in other MMOGs, got his dragon mounts, epic raid gear, etc. He tried and quit SWTOR cause, well, it sucked. To him SWTOR was just a bad implementation of WoW. Last weekend we met up and he asked me how GW2 was. Told me he had recently got bored of WoW’s gear grind and was looking for something else (he actually downloaded X-COM demo to try.) I told him, “stay in WoW, there’s no point to come to over GW2.”
Myself, I’m enjoying GW2 at the moment, basically because it does not cost me anything to play. The game play is ok by me. And I’m just biding my time till a game comes out that interests me again.

TLDR: No, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, anymore.

The REAL Manifesto:...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Falcon Night.4653

Falcon Night.4653

So if you love MMORPGs, you should check out Guild Wars 2. But if you hate traditional MMORPGs, then you should really check out Guild Wars 2. Because, like Guild Wars before it, GW2 doesn’t fall into the traps of traditional MMORPGs. It doesn’t suck your life away and force you onto a grinding treadmill; it doesn’t make you spend hours preparing to have fun rather than just having fun; and of course, it doesn’t have a monthly fee.

did Anet broke this?
Yes actually.

Try to get an ascended backpack/ring currently…..

-Agony resistance is the DEFINITION of "spending hours preparing to have fun ".

-New tiers
-New equip level
-New tiers of ascended (i menan ascended infused, capacitor infused, ascended to talk about the 3 currently known)
-Infusions

Are a gear trendmill

Fortunately in my country you cannot wordplay to trick people, and what is important is HOW is that mannifesto interpreted by common people.

And well it seems people think is no more valid….at least actually…..they can fix things? sure
Is manifesto deceptive advertising in relation of current game state? without any doubt yes.

Enjoy your wordplay….its worth as much as ToS: nothing.

P.S. and i’m in favor to give them another chance, but please don t make people fool with these threads….

Dont you think you’re taking this too far! If you were free to interpret any advertisement your way you can be sure everyone could point out at any advertisement and say its deceptive!

You can even say that gw1 breaks the manifesto if you want just because the manifesto says I can play the game any way I want and I decide to interpret that as say being able to bot and if I do that (LUCKLY ) they ban me!

there you go

I am sorry but you’re not free to interpret stuff any way you decide ! For you Ascended armor breaks the manifesto fair enough ! for me Ascended armor is entirely optional and has 0 effect on my game so how can it break the manifesto for me? Is my opinion any less valid ?

So you are interpreting the Manifesto the way, you, want? … LOL…
As you said its your opinion.

The REAL Manifesto:...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Falcon Night.4653

Falcon Night.4653

Several times over the past few week since Ascended gear was announced, people claimed that Arena.Net ‘violated them’ and broke the Manifesto. They’re claiming lies, claiming that the Manifesto should be “amended”, and have the gull to request refund for a $60 game they’ve played for nearly 3 months now (if you /age and have played more than 100hrs, you’ve gotten your money’s worth for sure and deserve no such refund).

So, what’s this stone tablet document that people seem to bow to? What is the Manifesto? Well, there’s two of them:

Video Manifesto:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKtGxVj3msM

Blog Manifesto:
http://www.arena.net/blog/guild-wars-2-design-manifesto

Out of both of those Manifestos, I find that neither of them once state “No vertical gear progression” as people claim. They both promise a fun game (check), different style action-based combat (check), and a more unique approach on questing outside the norm (check).

So, I’d like to see a stop of the lies misinformation on this forum: ones claiming that the Manifesto told them absolutely no vertical gear progression. Those lies misconceptions are nothing but manifestations of people trying to push their own expectations and interpretations of the game upon others. I’m sorry that Guild Wars 1 never had gear progression and this one does, but right from the start the developers said they were making a true blue MMORPG and not just another Guild Wars stamped with the number 2.

Thanks for posting this.
I saw the video and read the blog sometime ago (before launch.)
After seeing it again, and playing the game since headstart I’ve come to realize how much of the Manifesto ANet actually broke. LOL… You make “world changing” decisions? A fully branching different storyline?

The part about, not preparing to have fun but to actually go out and have fun was cool. So, can you go out and have fun in FOTM lvl 10+ (I forget cause I don’t run FOTM) without Ascended gear? Can everyone who wants to do Dungeons do Dungeons without standing around for 20-30 mins spamming LFG?

You are right. There is no mention of vertical progression. There is only mention of doing things differently than other MMOs and no grind. So if other MMOs don’t have vertical progression, then yes you’re right, ANET has stuck with the Manifesto after all. And the community should be ashamed of telling lies, that ANET did not stick to their Manifesto. Cause, heck there is no other MMORPG out there that has Dungeon Tire 1, Tier 2, Tier 3 armour/weapons.

And boy, do I feel like a real liar, now that you’ve let me know that I can complete a story quest/Meta Event/Dungeon Story mode/PvP zone conquest, to get my shiny new Ascended gear. Why didn’t any of the developers mention this before? No grind!!!
Thanks for putting me straight.

Seriously though, my entire focus on GW2 was due to the Manifesto saying that ANET were going to do things differently to other games. They even went so far as to say that gamers who had never been interested in an MMO should really check this out. I’ve totally specced out my Dragonborn and my Commander Sheppard and still had fun playing. As a single player gammer/even multiplayer, why would I want to jump into a gear threadmill? That’s my single player side of things.

I don’t mind loosing a battle. Knowing that I just sucked that day, not because I should have brought better stat armour (just like nearly every other MMO out there.)
