Pretty sure we’ll get a new slot with the expansion, since we’re paying for it.
Back in Guild Wars 1 you started with 4 slots and got an additional 2 slots for Factions and Nightfall each. Can’t remember whether that was also the case with GWEN … >.>

I would like to see a combination of the old system and the new one. Just give us a second tab, where we can choose how many gems we want to exchange. Since this system has already been in the game and you folks got the code, it shouldn’t take too long to implement.

To be honest, when I first tried exchanging gold for gems after the update I thought this was a bug, not a new feature. To say the least – I don’t like it at all whatsoever. It feels like the devs haven’t thought this one thru at all.
If I want to buy 5 WXP boosters I only need 495 gems. Not 500, not 400 nor anything else. All I need are exactly 495 gems.

I disagree, I so disagree with this. Having better gear (in GW2, don’t know about other games) is optional as well.

I wasn’t talking specifically about Guild Wars 2, but MMORPG’s in general. Besides, in most cases it’s not the game itself, that forces players to get better gear, but other players. As there is no option for others to actually see your gear in Guild Wars 2, there’s not so much coercion. Not to mention that getting exotic gear in Guild Wars 2 is as easy as it gets compared to any other MMORPG ^^

Optional or not, if you want them, you must farm for them.

Exactly, if I want them and only then!

The difference here is that I do not need these skins. In most games you are more or less forced to get better gear, because otherwhise you won’t be able to play new content – either because your character isn’t good enough for new encounters or because other players, who already got the new equip, refuse to play with you.

it’s over, the fun with loot has ended.

Let me quote ArchonWing’s signature: “Aiming solely for the endgame is no less silly than renting a movie and skipping to the end.” x)

I don’t like vertical progressoin at all. I don’t see the point in farming or grinding stuff all day long for a couple of weeks or months to get some equip that will be outdated and pretty much useless as soon as the next patch or add-on arrives. I already got a job – don’t need another one in the games I play …

I wouldn’t say the loot is abysmal. It always depends on what you’re doing to get loot. Does it make sense to farm random mobs for hours over hours? No, most certainly not.

I don’t know whether there’s an anti farm code implemented similiar to the one in Guild Wars 1 or not. Even if there isn’t the game discourages random mob farming by design. Mobs don’t give you a lot of EXP compared to other activities in the game and yes: you do not get good loot from them either. It’s much more worthwhile to do a lot of events, farm champions (champion trains in Queensdale and Frostgorge Sound) or to participate in the fight against the numerous world bosses.

The smileys are starting to come off condescendingly.

If that is your impression, then I’m sorry, because that was not my intention.

I’m voicing valid concerns, and so are quite a lot of other people.

Never said these concerns were invalid. As I said – I understand them. All I’m trying to say is that people should relax and wait for the patch.

Yes, plenty of other people spend money on the game, I’m aware. But my money has been spent on roleplay, and so has plenty of people’s.

So is your money worth more? I’m just wondering, because I don’t see what the amount of money any person has spent on the game has to do with this topic.

I’ve spent several hundred dollars on the game

So have a lot of other players as well

Telling me ’don’t worry’ doesn’t do much to alleviate that.

I can understand your concerns very well, but personally I just think “not worrying” is a healthier approach. The patch isn’t even live yet and we do not know all the details about the megaservers. What we do know is that ArenaNet is constantly working on improving the game.
Why not simply wait for the patch and see how things turn out? The problems you keep predicting might not exist at all I’m pretty sure there is going to be plenty of time to give feedback and voice concerns, once the patch is live and the problems do actually exist in the game.

[EotM] Champion Grawl High Shaman

in WvW

Posted by: Feothyr.6072

Feothyr.6072

I’m not sure whether a thread about the Grawl High Shaman already exists or not. I tried searching for one, but couldn’t find any, so I figured I’ll just open up a new one

What I wanted to say is that I think the Champion Grawl High Shaman in Overgrown Fane needs some rebalancing. Compared to the other two keep bosses in Edge of the Mists he is incredibly hard to kill since he resurrects his two elementals pretty frequently. I know this isn’t a real issue for zergs with 40 or 50+ people and killing him with a big zerg is fairly easy, but even then it takes longer than the other two bosses. (Mainly because people cannot manage to seperate the two elementals and they therefore take less damage.)

We tried killing him today with roughly 20 – 25 people and it took us really long, because he kept resurrecting his elementals directly after we managed to kill them, whereas killing the Champion Ogre Chief Engineer in Arid Fortress was a matter of minutes, if not seconds. I think this is especially unfair as it is already pretty easy to get into the red keep by using the siege devourers from the workshop, but that’s another topic.

So in order to rebalance this, I have thought about a couple of possible solutions.

  • Make the encounter with the other two bosses equally challenging – maybe even copy the mechanic of having to kill two guards first. (1)
  • Change the number of elementals that have to be killed, according to the size of the attacking force. Thanks to event scaling this should be done easily – right?
  • Remove the Grawl High Shaman’s ability to resurrect his elementals or
  • Increase the cooldown of his ability
  • Room for stuff I might come up with later

(1) I assume that each of the keep bosses in Edge of the Mists should be unique and require different methods and tactics in order to kill them. While I do understand this, I think it is more important to put all teams on equal footing and make all encounters equally challenging.

What do you think?

(Please excuse if I’ve written anything that sounds incredibly stupid or awkward – English’s not my native language. ^^)

Never said that only positive feedback should be allowed. Negative feedback is important too – I’m totally on your side with this one.

I just don’t see any constructive feedback in this thread so far, simply because tastes differ. Saying you don’t like character a, b or c is like saying you don’t like music genre x,y or z. People have different tastes and in the end there will always be someone who’s unhappy with somethig. It is impossible to please everyone.

(it goes for you too, Feothyr.)

Where have I been rude? Serious question. Never ment to be rude.

I know it’s fun to be snide, gosh knows I enjoy it, but if the feedback you have to offer can be truncated to “LOL WHY DON’T YOU JUST QUIT?” then please go back to the drawing board.

I never said anything about quitting. Please, read my post. There’s tons of stuff to do in Guild Wars 2, so if you don’t like the LS, because you think ArenaNet’s forcefeeding us Scarlet, then don’t play it (in the sense of: don’t play that part of the game …)

And while I do think it is important to give feedback and that everbody should be allowed to express their dissapointment, people should keep in mind that all these content patches ArenaNet delivered in the last couple of months haven’t cost us a single penny. So either take it or leave.

Gift of Battle rank requirement update

in WvW

Posted by: Feothyr.6072

Feothyr.6072

The difference being that WvW players don’t come and whine on the forums for it to be made easier/removed from legendary requirements for no reason.

Maybe due to the fact that PvE isn’t so bad after all and it’s easier for WvWers to do some PvE than vice versa? If you’re used to fighting human intelligence it’s fairly easy to adapt to AI than the other way around.
Not to forget to mention that the PvE playerbase is very likely much larger compared to the WvW base, so naturally there’s going to be much more (recognizable) whine from PvE’ers.

I know I’m not going to make a lot of new friends with this, but if we’re honest: Guild Wars 2 without PvE? Doubt that’ll work. Guild Wars 2 without WvW? Wouldn’t be as awesome, but pretty sure it would still work. PvE is just much bigger and more important for the game – and I’m not saying this as a PvE’er.

I just think that if ArenaNet is justifying their decision for a WvW requierement by saying that WvW is a large part of the game and Legendarys should require some sort of mastery of all game types, they should add an sPvP requierement as well. Just to follow through with their line of argument.

I understand why they’re strictly separating PvE and PvP, but at the end of the day, WvW is just PvP in a different wrapping.

As someone who has played an extensive amount of all 3 GW2 game modes, PvE and sPvP are far worse in terms of jerks and abused/hatred.

As I said: didn’t want to generalize or offend anyone. Just my subjective experience.

learn the basics, and you’ll have a good time.

You could just turn that around and argue that WvWers just have to learn the basics for dungeons or whatnot and then they’ll have a good time … they just need a little push and meet the right people.

Of course there are probably a lot of people out there who never really gave WvW a try. Yet, they might have their reasons for not trying it. I don’t see why it’s so hard for some people to understand that some people simply don’t like any form of PvP whatsoever (and seeing how much griefing potential there is for little kiddies, I don’t blame them). It’s just not their thing.
The last time I played, WvW was just a lot of mindless zerging and useless running around. Commander orders people to run from point A to point B, everybody runs, we get overrun by enemy zerg, respawn, run again, die, etc etc. We spent more time running then actually doing something useful like capturing something. Might’ve been due to a bad commander, but still …
(Disclaimer: I do not >not< like WvW. I play it once in a while and EOTM has really been a blast for me.)

I don’t know whether some of those mighty WvW/PvP people have ever taken a step back and started reflecting on themselves and their behaviour, because I get the feeling the jerk density is pretty high amongst PvP players. Too much testosterone and lack of self-confidence I’d assume. Don’t want to generalize – simply saying that the odds of having to deal with one of these people is a lot higher than in other parts of the game …
So this might be an additional deterrent for a lot of people.

Anyways, I don’t think that anyone would win anything, if PvE’ers were forced even more into WvW.

Personally I don’t care at all, whether there are new requirements or not. I got my gift of battle long time ago and in 1 year I’ll probably still be working on that kitten Juggernaut … ><

I see a big problem a couple of other people have already mentioned but most have ignored. There are big differences between the mechanics behind PvE and WvW (duuh …), so these two can’t be compared as easily as it is done here. Simply saying that Rank X should be required, just because you assume it’s just as annoying for PvE’ers, as getting map completion was/is for you, is not a good idea.

Forcing people to do WvW will lead to longer queues, as there is a set number of players that can be on each map at the same time. This will probably spoil the fun for WvW’ers, as more and more PvE’ers move into WvW, a game mode they don’t really enjoy, therefore participating only half-heartedly.

You’re simply shooting yourself in the foot by demanding such a high threshold.

It’s really funny seeing WvW players gloating over the thought that these lame PvE’ers now have to do some WvW. Pathetic.

If you’re going to argue, that legendaries should require mastery of every major aspect of the game, then you should not only demand a WvW requirement, but also a sPvP requierement. Everything else would be hypocrisy.

Animosity just said the same … and he’s right.

You can play with your friends via tournaments. We will continue as well to improve the ability to play with friends in pickup games, but it will always be somewhat limited because we do not want large groups of guilds pub stomping the pick up games.

So, why then are guild 5-mans allowed to pub stomp randoms in free tournies? Sounds like a contradiction to me.

I don’t want to play with a complete group in hot join matches, because yes, that would totally ruin the experience for the opposing team. I just want to be able to play some casual (i.e. no tournaments – these are far from casual!) PvP with (one or maybe two of) my friends. I don’t care whether they open up hot join matches for small groups or implement a completely new PvP mode. finding out you are up against a pre-made that basically only enters to destroy pugs and feel better because of it would kill the open matches fast.

Yeah sure. Because 2 or 3 premade people can totally destroy the opposing team …

No one’s asking for a whole premade team to be able to stick together. People just want to play with their friends and tournaments are not an option (as they’re far from casual friendly). I don’t see why it’s so hard to understand that some people just want to play some casual PvP with their friends …

Looks like you already know all of the reasons, you just don’t care and want to pubstomp.

You do like to troll a lot, don’t you?

Try it.

I did. And no thank you. Don’t know whether we were simply unlucky, but facing an organized guild team with 3 randoms isn’t fun at all.

The “inability” to play with your friends is the only thing that prevents games from become “stomp the pubs”. Premade teams have ruined PvP in every MMO since forever,

So two people playing together and communicating via teamspeak can easily stomp the opposing team – that’s 8 vs 2 … seems legit o_ô

I can see why they’re not letting whole groups play together and I’m fine with that. That would ruin it. I’d just like to be able to play with one (or maybe two) of my friends and I don’t think that would be a big issue.

Today I was playing with two of my friends and in most games we were on the same team anyway and we did not just stomp everything. Tbh I get my posterior handed to me on a regular basis … It’s just frustrating when two of your friends are on the opposing team :|
We just want to play some casual PvP and we’d like to play together. I think they should allow two or three friends to stay on one team. The other 5 people – the majority of team – would still be random people.

Tournaments aren’t really an option for me, because as I already said, we’re just looking for some casual fun. I don’t want to spend hours looking for other people, disucssing strategies, etc etc.

Just give us Alliance Battles or something similar. Please?
