It could. It seems to suggest drug use, which is against the rules found in the Naming Policy.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/guild-wars-2-naming-policy/

We do not permit names that:

Reference illegal drugs or activities

This begs the question what constitutes an illegal drug. What’s illegal in one country might be legal in another. So which country’s laws apply here? I’m assuming it’s US American laws, but ArenaNet’s in Washington state and cannabis is legal there, so … questions after questions

You didn’t have to be lvl 80 for champion, veteran and elite to be challenging.
The video is a perfect example of how EPIC the event was.

That’s exactly my point. The event was challenging and “epic”, because the players didn’t have all their skills, any of the equipment we have today or any of the experience. All you have to do to recreate that experience is create a new character, get some crappy gear and enjoy the event.

You obviously missed Beta and release in 2012.

Nope. Been playing Guild Wars since ’07. Sorry.

Sorry, forgot to put up my sarcasm sign.

Well, that’s not a fair comparison.

  • He’s not level 80.
  • He hasn’t unlocked all of his skills. Not to mention traits.

The open world has various states of difficulty for a reason. Most things can be solo’d, but there’s a time and a place for grouping up even in Core.

I believe we might be talking about different things. I was thinking about random mobs around the map, with no connection to events or other group challenges. Those should not be too difficult/challenging to fight. I’m not saying you should be able to kill everything by simply standing in one spot spamming 1, but as this is the first map new players face in PoF it needs to be relatively easy. There has to be a learning curve and there was none in HoT.

We have to keep in mind that there has to be a place for players that are either new to the game, are running a subpar build or are simply not interested in getting better gear. Especially new players are the ones keeping this game alive. We’re dependant on them.

I figured it’d be obvious that nobody should be able to solo world bosses or events designed for groups. I also agree with what you mentioned above about the different archetypes of mobs.

I’d be nice of them to make challenging group fights in the open world that make use of these things.

Why in the open world?

I just read a comment from a guy in the official feedback thread, complaining about how easy the open world mobs were using his raid setup. Seriously? Are you friggin kidding me? OF COURSE they’re easy when you’re using your raid setup! The more challenging content one plays, the easier it gets. So at some point open world content is going to feel easy, but that’s the way it is supposed to be!
We have raids and fractals and dungeons for challenging group fights – we don’t need them at every corner in the open world.

Absolutely loved the mounts, their animations, their ‘physics’. Loved that the raptor got more maneuverable/flexible the faster he got! Don’t change him.

Bounty bosses we’re a bit confusing sometimes – especially the stop and go mechanic. Difficulty should be adjusted as well. Tazula Mindclouder is ridiculously easy compared to Forged Maverick.

Heart in Seeker’s village felt a bit grindy; the other one was great though.
Also like the idea of hearts in story – as long as they’re not too grindy.

Liked identifying gear; saves a lot of inventory space.

Minigame MPs were fun – could use some tweaking though.

What other reason is there for an inexperienced player to join an experienced run without knowledge of the encounter, or how to play their build properly? That’s just a waste of time, and time is important for all players. Maybe the most important factor.

I seriously doubt that there’s anybody out there who joins a group, thinking “Ouh yeah, I’m so gonna leech off of them! They’re gonna carry me all the way, while I eat cookies and laugh at them!”

How is a player supposed to get experience, if he’s never given the opportunity to do so? Yes, he could join a training run (although I’ve never seen a single listing on the LFG tool labelled ‘training run’), but that’s inherently flawed, as runs with inexperienced players are different from normal runs. The best way to learn an encounter is to play it with people who know what they’re doing and who can give the inexperienced player advice on what to do better next time.

Isn’t an MMORPG supposed to be a place where people come together to play together, not exclude each other? To meet new people? Maybe make new friends?

If you want your run to be perfect don’t do PUGs – get a static group, ask friends or guildmates. That way you know what you’re getting yourself into and you’ll have a much nicer time.

Which is why I said the problem would go away when both LFG creators and LFG joiners know how to type and read respectively.

Agreed. Although I’d argue that always asking for experienced players is a bit short sighted in the long run …

As someone who around 3-4 years ago got kicked from dungeons over and over for running terrible builds (like a warrior with a rifle and no banners), after certain amount of kicks i got a hint that i was doing something wrong, and the problem was with my performance. So i asked around and after some time i did improve as a player.

You probably would have improved a lot sooner and a lot quicker, if people would have been upfront with you, instead of just kicking you out, don’t you think?

The selfish prick is the brand new and inexperienced player joining experienced runs to leech and get carried.

What kind of picture do you have of humankind? Do you always assume the worst?

If you join an experienced run never expect them to teach you anything, that’s unreasonable.

You’re assuming I’m talking about a run that’s asking for experienced players, which I’m not. I’m talking about a regular, plain, 08/15 run …

they even kick you out of the party, they are giving you a chance to improve.

I call BS. They’re not giving you a chance to improve – they’re getting rid of you. Giving someone a chance to improve takes time, and seeing as these people don’t even have the time to help someone through a dungeon, I seriously doubt they’ll take the time to give that person some pointers. If someone performs badly in an encounter I don’t assume they’re only trying to leech – I assume they’re simply not as experienced and I’m going to try and help them get better, because that’s the decent thing to do.
A lot of people seem to forget that there’s another human being behind the screen and helping other people has its own rewards; which people, who only care about pixels obviously are incapable of understanding.

I don’t mind DPS meters if they’re used for improving oneself – I do mind them, if they’re used as an excuse for being a selfish prick.

You do not need guildies/friends or voice chat to succeed in fractals, they are easy enough as it is.

Of course they’re not needed. ^^ I’ve done a couple of runs with PUGs; some of them went really smoothly – others not so much. I don’t do PUGs often, because I don’t like the risk of playing with people I don’t know, who might cause the run to fail or at least make it way harder than it would be with guildmates.

Exactly why most PUGs post their requirements, usually the word “experienced”

At what point can a player be considered “experienced”? After 10 succesfull runs? 20? 100? Perception’s differ and a player might think he’s experienced, although he’s not.

If I want to make absolutely sure I’m going to run through T4 fractals as fast and as easy as possible I join an experienced PUG run.

You don’t know the people you’re teaming up with, so why are you assuming they’re going to live up to your expactations? Just because they wrote “exp” in the description? It doesn’t make sense to me. It’s like expecting advertisements to be a true depiction of reality.

PUGs are there to reach the end goal as fast as possible and with as little problems as possible.

Are they though? You don’t know the people you’re grouping up with. You don’t know how much experience they have, how good their gear is or whether they are having a bad day. Assuming they’re going to meet all of your expectations seems at the very least naive to me.

I don’t know if I’m alone on this one, but if I want to make absolutely sure I’m going to get through T4 fractals as fast and as easy as possible, I’m sure as hell not going to look for people I don’t know or have never played with. I’m going to play with guildies and voice chat.

If your party wiped due to low dps and you had the lowest dps, why wouldn’t you be kicked?

I can understand that most people just want to complete their daily fractals as fast as possible, but if you’re not willing to play with people, who might not live up to your expectations, don’t do PUGs. Instead of just kicking players, maybe offer them some helpful pieces of advice and actually help them get better. Kicking players and telling them to “get gud” is just an easy way out for jerks. It’s simply rude.

Feothyr.6072

Wrong. A very important part of the demo/beta experience is for customers to provide feedback. If there is something they see in the demo they like or do not like they very much should state it well before launch. This will give Anet a chance to evaluate the feedback and see if they should consider making any changes before launch day.

How valuable can feedback be if we as a player base cannot fully comprehend the extent of a feature we’re criticising? Coming across a feature and then “freaking out about it” without fully understanding it, isn’t good feedback.

All I’m saying is, people should be more cautious and keep in mind that there might be more to it than what we’ve seen so far in the demo.

On topic: I agree that, so far, the feel of the original Crystal Desert is not really there. Of course, this is not only an issue of design, but also of the GW2 core. There just aren’t any really desolate and empty places left in the world. Unfortunately this and some other design choices removed the ‘adventure’ feeling the original game had, especially in the Crystal Desert.

Maybe wait until the expansion is actually out? I agree that the original feel of the Crystal Desert isn’t there but I’m pretty sure we’re going to get that feel once we’ve seen other parts of the map

It seriously baffles me how people always start judging a whole game or expansion after they’ve played a tiny tiny fraction of a demo …

I really like this feature and I hope they keep it in the game.

Maybe they’ll add another gemstore item to allow people to identify gear anywhere, but I don’t mind. Completing the heart at the Amnoon Oasis is a matter of maybe 3-5 minutes and I’m pretty sure once the game is life, you’re going to at least do one heart a day somewhere anyways, so there’ll always be a merchant to identify gear at.
Besides, I’m pretty sure that precursors won’t drop from these items. I’ve identified at least 250 items so far and the only exotic items I’ve gotten are the exotic sunspear weapons. Rare items have also always been sunspear weapons.

Another thing to remember is that this is just a demo and a lot of things can change. We don’t know everything there is to know about this feature, so we shouldn’t be too quick to judge. Save your outcries of frustration and despair for after September 22nd ;3

That being sad, I don’t believe this game is for you. There’s always going to be certain points you won’t be able to reach unless you’ve done something else first (like unlocking a specific mount), there’s always going to be content you won’t be able to complete solo and there are always going to be enemies you won’t be able to kill by simply spamming 1.

A message from Mike O’Brien:

This morning we experienced a power failure at our European datacenter, and unfortunately it knocked out some of our equipment. We’re currently rebuilding. In the meantime, accounts that connect to European worlds are unable to login. Some North American accounts with ties to the European account database are also unable to login.

We’re working on restoring networking equipment. Once we do, we’ll know whether we can safely bring up databases and game servers. At this time we don’t have an estimated time to restore service.

Today is release day. We’re going to go ahead and post the release, although much of the world won’t be able to access it until service is restored. I know that’s far from ideal. But we have only three days left to prepare for the demo, and with that schedule, it’s important that we get the release out today so we have time to deal with any issues that arise. I appreciate your understanding.

I have to pay real money to use these features, features that are important in the one gamemode that I care about: WvW.

Have you ever considered that Guild Wars 2 might just not be the right game for you?

I understand your frustration and anger as a WvW only player, but I think your perspective is too narrow. There’s more to Guild Wars 2 than just WvW and the majority of the playerbase enjoys mostly PvE and so naturally ArenaNet is going to primarily cater to these players.

To be honest I’m a bit fed up with people complaining about ArenaNet wanting to make money. They are a company just like any other game studio out there and they have to earn money. The gaming industry has changed over the last couple of years and the glorious days of MMORPGs are over. The cake is getting smaller and smaller …

There’s no subscription fee and most of the stuff in the gem store is either fluff or can be bought with ingame gold. I really don’t think it’s too much to ask to spend 30 or 40$ every two years for a new expansion – if not for the content, then at least to keep the company and therefore the game running.

I just tried doing some easy bounties with my guild and it seems like most of the targets are either missing completely or are somehow bugged.

First we couldn’t find Trillia Midwell, which in itself is kind of weird as she’s usually pretty easy to find. We abandoned the mission and started a new one – Brekkabek. We couldn’t find him either, but what we did find was his buddy Maully wandering around all by himself.
We tried a third target and got Poobadoo. After 5 minutes one of our guildies found him – but he was the only one able to see him. He tried talking to Poobadoo but couldn’t. At one point I thought I saw him and it looked like he was walking beneath the terrain. I only catched a glimpse of his Bounty marker though.

I already reported Brekkabek via the ingame /bug feature but figured I’d post on here as well.

Anyone else experienced similiar issues?!

Since I saw a lot of people with commander icon last year at gamescom, maybe we should all get a commander tag in different colors so we can recognize each other?!

Super excited for gamescom! Been there for the last 5 years and it’s always been one of my highlights. Especially the community meet and greets were fun, so I hope there’ll be one this year as well.

Only 9 more days to go!

PS: I wonder if Gaile is willing to trade one of her frogs for a lifetime supply of stroopwafles *ponders*

A demo suggests its in a playable form. As in its mostly done. With only bug fixes and minor additions to go.

As much as I’d love to agree with you, the first demo of Guild Wars 2 was playable at gamescom 2010 – almost exactly two years before release.

I do hope HoT will be released end of April but I’m afraid it’s going to be end of August :/

I am not good at math sadly, so I do not know the USD to EURO equation. As far as I know, the limited boxed edition was offered at my local GameStop for $100 USD. I saw the price tag.

Pretty sure it was the same in $ Prices in most of Europe (if not all) include taxes, so 150€ is exactly what I had to pay. If I’m not mistaken, prices in the US never include taxes, so you’d have to add VAT to those 150$.

150€ is approx. 165$.

I just hope HoT won’t cost more than 50€ … otherwise I’d really have to consider buying it at release ._.

A zone consists of several maps; e.g. Ascalon is a Zone consisting of 6 maps. I’m pretty sure there will be enough for us to explore in the jungle

The base game was $60 at launch, the special editions $80 to $100. Normally in a standard printing model an expansion is $40 with a special at $60. Based off what is being sold now, it sound more like $20 and $40.

The collector’s edition was 150€.

I’ll probably end up buying the expansion pack no matter what, so I don’t really care how much it’s going to cost. That being said, I do hope it’s not more than 50€. We’re talking about an expansion after all – not a stand-alone campaign like back in Guild Wars 1.
