Week 3-all Static Discharge

Week 5- Grenade Kit

I just want to at least see 100 Enigneers all equipped with Flamethrowers. Dont even have to be Traited or Geard for it. I want to see the fear of 100 flamethrowers charging a base.

Our Static Discharge Team alone could wreck a group quickly, and Grenade Spammers could easily clean up afterwards. Those guys have the easy jobs.

It’s down to the TankCats to head first into battle and draw attention to themselves, and have the Knockback team always ready to knock down potential threats to the Static Discharge Team.

Elixir Gun guys would have to be pretty on top of there game. Maybe carry there Elixir X for the Toolbelt revive, which would be immensely useful for the glass cannons if they stay grouped together

I thought about the idea of an all Engineer Guild too. The idea was fun.

We have all the capabilities, TankCat, Lightning Burst, AOE Dps and Heals. We would make a good 5 man dungeon, sadly though, all we would be doing is playing Hardcore mode, but I guess that just makes us hardcore.

In WvWvW though, that would be a different story. Imagine if at least a group of 50-100 engineers were roaming
and all had at least 1 Turret in there inventory, and also Healing Turret. We would ACTUALLY be a force to be reckoned with. If all the engies say went Tankcat, or static discharge, the bounce rate, or survivability would be awe inspiring in a 50 man.

Imagine if we all had Rocket Turrets, the knockdown rate would be ridiculous. With all our Healing Turrets up in a clump, it would be nigh impossible to take us down for a while.

But Alas, that is tis but a dream, to be able to convince at least 50-100 dedicated Engineers to play, and be on at least every weekend and coordinate on WvW is a Pipe Dream.

I mean…WHERE are you gonna even FIND 10 engineers that are level 80 as their mains on the same servers?!

Because he’s the profession Guild Wars 2 deserves, but not the one it needs right now, so we’ll nerf him…..because he can take it….because he’s not a profession….he’s a Grenade Spammer, a Turret Spawner……the Versatile Engineer. -The Dark Knight (2008)

Right now, Engineers are in limbo when it comes to dungeons. We lost our biggest, safest source of steady damage when the Grenades got nerfed. Sure we might be able to dominate using CC and stack Weakness and Vulnerability but all that is almost worthless against bosses. A Profession that does negligible damage but applies stacks of Vulnerability instead isn’t going to find much to do in boss fights considering our 12-15 stacks at best could easily be replaced by someone who just does 15%-20% more damage instead. Top that with our “support” is severely limited in range, consistency, and potency. The “fix” that was applied to the Elixir Gun made Super Elixir incapable of keeping up with damage that dungeons spit out; the only way that Thrown Elixirs can be useful is to have everybody stack for some measly 10 second buff; and like always Turrets lack the range, toughness, and power to be worth anything in dungeons. Med Kit can help someone hurt with the three Drop Bandages skills but most of the time when you drop them for somebody they either ignore them or you’re unable to drop it on them because people are almost always moving in dungeons. Flamethrowers and Bomb Kits aren’t able to keep us alive when we lack the survival mechanics that Thieves or Mesmers have and also the armor and skill bulk that Warriors and especially Guardians have. When in dungeons, the best job I feel I can do is revive 1-2 people with Toss Elixir R or pressure giant groups of mobs like in Ascalonian Catacombs Path 2 or the Dredge Fractal. I feel more than useless in boss fights and it’s pretty lame considering I play the silly game because of PvE.

Combo Fields are kind of valuable in dungeons when you have a coordinated team that will listen to you when you say get inside the field. Elementalist can easily stack 20 seconds of 15-25 stacks of Might when everybody dives into a Ring of Fire and starts spamming Blast Finishers but the fields provided from the Bomb Kit are painfully short and nothing the Super Elixir’s Light Field provides is worthwhile (Retaliation is a PvP buff, not very useful in PvE) except for the Projectile finishers (removes 1 condition maybe once or twice a person).

I never said that Anet is going to nerf Static Discharge, i just said that its the only strong thing left. But if they are going to nerf it without giving us some major dmg / versatility buffs, its clear that they dont want the engineer to be competitive.

It’s a commonly known fact that Engineers can’t be happy, and it has to be kept that way or else the very sanity of the world will be at stake!

So, anybody ever consider Sigil of Leeching? It steals about 900 hp every time it activates, and doesn’t seem to have a Cooldown on weaponswap.

With the fact that we have no CD on weapon swapping, anybody have an idea for a build with this? Some kind of lifesteal build or something?

and anybody have any idea if Sigil of Leeching and Hydromancy work together?

The next “huge update” is going to be the feb patch, but personally i doubt that they are going to nerf the TankCat build. Apart from static discharge i dont think that there is anything left worth nerfing.

I just bought myself a full condi dmg/toughness/precision set, because running around with a sd build for 3 months got me bored. And even though its not competitive (just my opinion) it still makes fun, so just do what makes you happy
And besides that, who needs money anyway?

So I’m running a pure Glass Cannon Build right now. All Power, Crit Dmg, and Precision.

I’m very tempted to switch to a TankCat build, or some kind of variation of it. Or even experiment.

But since it seems like we’re going to have an update soon…(anybody have the word on when a huge update is coming?) I’m a bit wary about wasting my money and time on building a build when ArenaNet is probably going to nerf it. What do you guys think?

1. We can do everything, but every other profession can do it better already. With the fact that we’re the least played Profession, and there is never a shortage of other professions, what is available to us isn’t necessarily useful to everyone else.

But if you’re really curious.
We can be a Tankcat
A Medicat
A Lightning Spammer
An AOE specialist
A Knockback Specialist
and many others. Just never as good as anybody else.

2. At early levels, there isn’t much synergy required, but at later levels, especially higher tier PvP and higher lvl fractals, we’re just not as useful and we don’t bring as much to the table as other classes can. So realistically our synergy isn’t that great.

3. To be efficient at ONE THING that we choose, we have to pour all the stats and all our Traits into that one role, and be pigeonholed into that one role. Besides that, you must play flawlessly and never make a mistake, as there is no room for mistake in higher tiered pvp and fractals.
