rip cele warriors and cele eles. good riddance. I found cele guards and engies to be perfectly balanced.

They’ll probably stay. Using right now as a baseline, they go over the 700 condi mark limit quoted in the blog post once they reach about 8 stacks of might or so.

And neither is really there for the damage.

To further the point, how many warriors use sword for something other then a pounce stick. It’s a travesty. Perfect hybrid weapon reduced to hoping around map faster because its not 100% power and not 100% condi.

I agreed with your post, but you’re completely wrong about warrior sword. 1) Every single PvP team in existence uses at least 1 warrior using it as a hybrid weapon. I’ll just leave it at point 1.

They only get 4 clears before they melt

They get 2 F2s, 3 shouts and 2 warhorn skills. Shout warriors are effectively immune to conditions to the point I’ve see people /sleep when up against condi builds on stream and still win. I haven’t done it in a match but I’ve done it after matches.

It’s a BAD matchup for condi builds. I’ve won it on cele/condi builds, but it’s because I was better. They were using the better build and messed up.

Cuz in GW1 you weren’t allowed into PvP teams at all unless you had certain titles. It killed PvP because no new players were allowed.

I disagree, Aomine. In team fights condis are usually irrelevant, so let’s just ignore them for simplicity. In 1v1s, which is what I think you’re talking about, many classes including ranger can stack way more than 1 poison. Even with meta-level condi clears, you can keep poison on people pretty easily so I think you can keep decent to high levels of condis on people 1v1 after the changes.

It might be a nerf to sigil or doom or etc., but really, sigil of doom is a bit silly to begin with.

Ha, I meant the increased bleed stacks don’t matter for PvP. Every team runs with massive condi clear at the moment.

In WvW someone with 400 stacks of bleed will die, but I don’t really see zergs switching to condi. Zergs already run vitality and toughness, so they don’t get any tankier. Getting hit with 20 hammer smashes will kill you just as much as getting hit with 400 stacks of bleed, only the former takes less time to apply.

The major weakness of conditions have now been removed. It takes time to build stacks up, but time is in the condition users favor.

I’m not following. Time is in the favor of shout warrior. Nothing has changed about condi removal; vulnerability, 400 bleeds, etc. don’t matter because everything gets cleared so quickly.

If you’re talking about PvE or WvW zergs, power is still faster. It’s hard to even get a condi tag down before other people explode something with power in those 2 situations.

With these changes I see the Rise of the condi meta. I mean why run anything else when you give up very little and are able to cover just about every weakness.

Maybe, but keep in mind the current meta is power because you can’t keep condis on people in group fights. If you’re fighting 1v1, condi is really strong, but also nothing has changed in that case. If you’re fighting 5v5, you can’t get condis to stick.

well cele has always been totally unviable for our prof. stats are simply being moved to the amulet and therefore made baseline. and condi rabid or regen builds will with 1400+ condi damage may be insanely good.

I’ve been running cele for the past year or so. It’s listed on pretty much every build as a variant on metabattle, and cele rangers have regularly showed up in tourneys (until recently it seems, when everyone has abandoned rangers entirely.)

Makes a me a little sad because pure condi rangers can’t contribute to team fights, and I don’t like LB for PvP.

Oh well, maybe something good can be found in the new traits.

Looks like cele ranger will be a horrible choice for PvP. Triple nerfed: the cele amulet will get a 10% stat reduction, the traits will no longer boost condi damage, and condi damage recalculated.

Atm, if you ran full skirmishing, you have 18% crit chance and if you ran spotter, it goes up to 25%.
Myself, I would go a mix of valk and cav armor if I were to run 6 in skirmishing,

That won’t exist anymore by the time he makes it. Traitlines aren’t going to provide stats as of the next update (as far as we know.)

Keep in mind the armor stats are going to change in presumably 1 week with the specialization changes. I’m wondering if they might even go to 4 or more stats, like in PvP… probably not but maybe.

Soldiers is kind of crap for a LB in my opinion. The damage drop off is just massive, and it defeats the purpose of being able to hit from so far away if the person shows up next to you at near full health.

I’d look at a mix of 3; zerk, assassins and cavaliers. Particularly with every LB user getting easy access to condi removal, I think toughness will be the way to go. If you want it to be a full set and not mixed pieces, I’d go for cavs and then all assassins or zerk jewelry. Again it will depend on what kinds of stats we get from gear with the change, and what kind of crit chance you’re ok with.

The machanic the OP is describing is roughly the way the skill should work now already. The reason why it doesn’t is because the server is controlling your pet and any slight lag will let your pet run past you.

I think he means he wants it closer. Right now it sits like 5 feet to the left in front of you, and presumably he wants it basically on his hitbox.

Hornet’s sting->monarch’s leap is used more for mobility than actually fighting most of the time, but it can be nice to combo with fire or water fields.

One thing I’ve been screwing around with on my double melee build is using the fact that ML scoots you slight further forward than HS moves you back, as long as the target isn’t selected. You can drop target, HS, ML (hitting the target both times even though it’s not selected) and then weapon swap, hot key select the target, and press 5 which will automatically orient you and land a stun instead of daze with hilt bash. There aren’t a ton of scenarios where you can actually get a stun instead of daze in a 1v1.

I went up against a guard ranger 1v1 roaming on my engi the other day. Like the ranger-main that I am, I scoffed at his weakness and proceeded to kill his pet so I could condi him down. Ya that didn’t work at all. You can’t kill a pet in a 1v1, it’s not ever going to happen. I couldn’t kill the ranger and had to just leave.

Even in PvP your pets almost never die. They get access to a 100% full heal every 20 seconds. I think it makes sense to allow other people to attempt to kill our pets. In PvE there is no reason to hamstring us by having such a large part of our build be able to die.

Did Arena net update the community of changes and give reasons why? Is that responsibility of a company to give their customers update of changes and to why?

Pretty sure I’m not following what you’re asking. They used to give us info about what they had planned, but because their corporate culture seems to be hyper-focused on getting things right through experimentation, it stopped working. They would tell us “this is coming” then find out later they didn’t want it to come after all, and people would flip out.

If they’re going to continue to be this hippie “try everything” company, then this is the best solution; not telling us so we don’t get our hopes up. As much as it sucks for us. I personally would prefer to hear about all their ideas, even if they never come to be, just out of curiosity and to be “involved”, but the community has proven to not be capable of handling that.

Speaking weapon swapping, you can weapon swap shortly after pressing the first leap button to cancel it. Swap back to sword and you can use it as a single forward leap, similar to the sword 2 skill on the warrior. Useful for jumping puzzle type stuff.

wut? how hard is it to make the 2 best teams fight each other? The best challenge to a 5 man is another 5 man. Anet wants to limit que time for esport teams so they don’t quit by feed them solo quers, that’s is ALL matchmaking’s fault.

I think your misinterpreting what I’m saying. Matchingmaking already does the best job it can based on what’s available. What people whine about is that they’re up against a 5 man when they’re solo. So bring back solo/team queues is a legit argument. “Don’t put me up against a 5 man” is not a legit argument because the matchmaking has no other choice other than to not let the 5 man team play at all.

I don’t understand why people are whining about the matchmaking. It’s the players doing it. There is a team with 5 players who need someone to fight and matchmaking correctly puts them with the best challenge available within about 10 minutes.

Complain about solo queue vs team queue for sure, but shut up about the matchmaking.

I only clicked the link and didn’t really watch, but I find it very unappealing that you have a logo banner thing covering your skills. I don’t see any benefit, and huge downside of the view not being able to see what you’re doing. Just delete that thing entirely, there is no reason for it.

Actually for PvE I think autoattack on the sword is fine. You very rarely need to dodge, especially if you have a guardian or thief in your party.

If it becomes troublesome, you can run s/a + s/d, and if you need to interrupt the autoattack, swap weapons and use dagger 4.

where are you going to train, seriously what boxer can you name is wrecking all around fighters? MMA has shown that guys like cung le, anderson silver and mirco cro crop absolutely destroy 1 dimensional fighters.

Which brings up my next point, they earned there black belts threw training and hard work. It doesnt mean there the best fighter but the fact is they put there work in to earn it. Someone coming of the streets might be able to beat them but guess what take the best 4 players you know and go up against the abjured, cunning stunts, radioactive, apex and etc and the result would be the same as you fighting a pro champion mma fighter who holds a title for what he does.

Most players will lose to the tournament teams because the tournament teams don’t care about titles and show how good they are… in tournaments.

Pro MMA fighters don’t care about blackbelts, many of them don’t even hold a rank at all. And your average tough guy with no training will destroy your average TKD or karate black belt.

Titles are fake. If you want people to know you’re good at something, be good at something.

Premise
Who is the best ranger dueler while still being a kitten and running double bears? Because this is for fun and you can run anything.

With HoT and trait changes right around the corner, I think we need a second round, where those that succeeded before will rue the day they ever stepped into this forum because new blood rises to the wheat through a camel’s needles and winter is coming and etc.

Timeline
If there is interest, I suggest roughly 2 weeks after the trait changes go live.

History
Here were the previous rules, let me know if you think some changes are needed with the trait changes or just because of bad design.

I’m going to list them slightly edited so they’re easier to read for people who didn’t participate in the first one.

Premise:

  • Anyone may participate at any time by finding the most recent post labeled either NA King (or Queen) of the Hill or EU King (or Queen) of the Hill and challenging that player to Mortal Kombat 1 vs 1 combat.
  • This is a for fun, on-going challenge for any rangers. Weird or experimental builds are welcome, and the idea is not necessarily to hog the hill for the rest of GW2s life.
  • The duels are the best 2 out of 3, and there are no immediate rematches.
  • Each round is only over when one player is defeated, not downed. Self-rezzing is acceptable if you can pull it off, including via Spirit of Nature.
  • There are no build limits. Nothing is cheesey or bad manners. Use any build or equipment allowed by game in sPvP. However you must (hopefully obviously) be using a ranger, and you must use the same build for all 3 duels.

Rules

  • Duels will take place as soon as you contact the current King/Queen in game and they agree you have called next in line and now is a good time.
  • Challenges are accepted in this thread first, in-game second. So if someone challenges you for tomorrow in this thread, and someone challenges you in-game today, you can’t accept the in-game challenge yet. If the challenge in this thread is an unreasonable amount of time (example, 4 days) you may reject it for in-game challenges first.
  • Duels will take place in sPvP on either 1) public duel servers or 2) a custom arena if one of the contestants has access. The exact location is up to the contestants, but it is recommended to be a large open area where Line-of-Sight can’t be used extremely extensively. Some good examples would be in front of the bases on Legacy of the Foefire or on the beach between bases on Forest of Niflhel. An example of a bad location is the Henge on Forest of Niflhel. (Be sure both participants are clear about potential “out of bounds”.)
  • Rounds will start after both opponents bow.
  • Upon the results of the duel, the winner will make a new King/Queen post marking the score and result of the duel as a win OR the new King/Queen will make a post marking themselves as the new King/Queen and posting their build. The thread will self govern in this manner. Follow the established format of bolding the title and adding some dots above and below the text, so it is easier to find among the other posts.
  • If you hold the hill for 8 opponents, after the eight opponent and every opponent after, you must select one of the following to handicap yourself with.
    - No Armor
    - No Sigils
    - One Weaponset
    - Subtract 2 Trait points – this can be chosen multiple times
    - Subtract 1 Utility – this can be chosen multiple times
    - No Elite
  • The current King/Queen will have a post listing their build in this thread. This build cannot be changed until defeating someone, upon which they may pick 2 points from the below list to alter:
    - change 2 sigil’s worth of weapons
    - reallocate 2 trait points
    - change 2 major traits
    - change 2 utilities
    - change 1 pet
    Each victory will allow the above choice again. You are not required to change your build.

I think it’s from May 15th (from a cursory google search.)

It’s definitely not something to hold them to or they’d release an official date. But companies always have internal deadlines they’re trying to meet.

The 1st response was joking because it’s a dumb thread premise, but in all seriousness, I’ve won plenty of conquest games without even getting the daily 3 PvP kills. If you backcap faster than the other team caps, you win without fighting anyone.

This can be a thief teleporting on Khylo, the other team doing too much team fighting, etc.

I played a variety of professions and came to the conclusion it doesn’t really matter. Just like in conquest, being in the right place is more important than anything else. I think all the typical meta builds for all professions are fine.

It’s a great map for power LB though, which isn’t always the case.

I just keep coming back to this thread… People needing some sort of visual proof they’re better than everyone else because they can’t just prove it with their skills like everyone else. Ha!

I’ve been training in martial arts for a couple decades and you see this all the time. The traditional guys with their black belts get all uppity when a boxer with 6 months training wrecks them in sparring. Cuz titles don’t matter, it’s the PvP match/ring/cage whatever that matters.

They still don’t even have a release date. The only way they can keep the hype train running it to dangle dozens of carrots.

In the PvP forum there was a video by a couple devs presenting dev stuff to other devs at a conference, and they said “this is about our expansion we’re releasing this summer”. Not a hard date, but at least we know their rough internal deadline. Like they aren’t planning on releasing it for Christmas if everything goes well.

The class with the lowest “good” players in thief. There are tons that are decent at fighting, but most have zero clue about the role of a thief on the team.

The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. There’s 1 good thief out of 129 yet so many “attempt” to play it.

Thief and mesmer make me wince in physical pain every time I see one on my team. Very rarely does anything good ever come from one of those. And often you wind up with 3 of them. Even Phantaram is horrifically terrible with thief, not that he really plays it enough to have ever gotten good at it.

If you killed a druid in GW1, it spawned creatures from the underworld. I wonder if there is a legit lore tie-in to the dragons or gods or something. I know the lore people went completely nuts on fleshing these things out, and then never told us most of it.

It might influence the flavor of the staff skills, like mimicking mordrem skills. Probably will have nothing to do with the game play, but whatever.
