Any motivation to not afk when losing?

For starters, I NEVER afk because I respect that other pixels represent humans.

But what in the hell is my motivation to do otherwise when I know I’m going to get the exact same amount of points? Top player rewards don’t count, you know who will get them before the match ends and it’s a small amount. It’s REALLY depressing with this new point system. I have to audibly tell myself to not stop playing every time we are about to lose.

On a duel server, sure it’s fine, but on a tPvP or even sPvP? Zero motivation.

Feel free to rage all you want, but the lead game designer also said the ranger is GW2s pet class, and pet’s are what define it. It’s never going to go away.

The second time hybrid battle that gives you the achievement has a slightly different flow to it, unless I missed something obvious. The first one the flowers slowly push you to the center, and the second time, the center was just one giant flower and i had to fight hanging off the wall. Whatever, both were fun. I dig it.

The ranger’s theme is what you give it based on books/movies, or from their skill names, many of which are based around animals. Anet can’t control the former, and the latter indicates the class uses a pet.

I personally think they should have called thieves “rogues” or something similar and it would have cleared up a lot of these name problems.

Tanky ranger draws fire because there are 6 clones, the real mesmers are invisible, and people assume ranger will be squishy. Good trick there.

Variant on that build would be go full berserker and sit at the back with longbow, but you would use similiar skills, i.e. muddy terrain, entangle, barrage and healing spring for zerg support.

I use LB and s/x for roaming because those weapons deal well with thieves. You can always manually swap weapons if needed.

As long as no one is able to farm it (in an unreasonable cheaty-sort of way), I don’t really care. If someone wants to play nothing but crab toss for 3 years to obtain a reasonable PvP rank, be my guest. You’ll gouge your eyes out first though.

And “gladiator” is about as prestigious and hard to get as “combat healer” or “volunteer”.

It’s just called a ranger though. You can make a thief or warrior and roleplay it as though it were a lone wolf Aragorn type guy. Both of them can use a bow and duel wield melee weapons with no pet. Aragorn was a ranger in the sense of one who ranges/roams, he might as well have been the thief class or warrior class. (Eventually he became a guardian too!)

Would anyone complain if you were able to rename the profession of a warrior you rolled to “warden” and kept everything else totally identical?

Why would you choose to use a class with a pet as their profession mechanic if you don’t want a pet? Serious question, because I am super confused. That’s like wanting to play a guardian but in light armor and only using duel pistols.

Kill any enemy you come across. There are sPvP servers SPECIFICALLY for dueling. Ruining a duel nets your server up to three points in a matter of seconds.

But if they are going to roll their face across their keyboard against the highest attainable burst damage a ranger can achieve and still win, there’s a serious problem with the ranger class.

But you said yourself you’re rolling your face across your keyboard and not using the evades that basically define what a melee ranger is. Your playing your ranger like a heavy and not understanding why it’s not working.

Compare and contrast to a s/d ranger not getting hit by this berserker warrior and winning the fight.

LOL…. that’s all I have to say is LOL. Do not even bother to answer this kid, its obvious he has never played a ranger and is too worked up that his any threat to toppling his guardian off the top spot means another underwear wash day for his mother.
But please do note, play a ranger and see what others are saying about the one hand sword and then tell us we are all dreaming its us and we should L2P. I hardly think so :P
Come back when you have done your homework and can address on the forum in an articulate manner with as much evidence as you can to support your claim. If you really knew about the state of rangers and knew that the whole damage vs offense is really unbalanced, the statement you just made is really crazy.

By all means, continue using LB and barrage in PvP. I’ll continue using 1h sword because I’m not utterly incompetent. Funny how I’ve never, ever seen a top ranked ranger advocating using barrage in PvP.

1h sword and warhorn is a must have for dungeons. Actually I use a 1h sword in all 3 formats. Those two weapons were the first to ascend.

I recommend carrying one of everything plus 2 axes though, if you’re obsessed with efficiency like me. I tend to change weapons, traits and utilities before every single fight.

The game isn’t only about damage numbers. Rangers have massive amounts of CC and massive amounts of evasion. That is worth an awful lot.

Also get yourself a 1 handed sword and stop using barrage in 1 on 1 fights with a warrior.

The fights where “broken mechanics” are used like “going invisible” or stuns are the best ones. That’s when people are using their classes to the best of their abilities and it feels good to get that stomp.

Also honorable duels are ridiculous; it’s WvW, not a custom sPvP dueling server. I kill every red name I see, as do almost 100% of the people I come across.

My Conqueror rank advanced half way through a match immediately after stomping someone. I’m not sure how that is possible since no rank point are awarded till the end of a match?

It was just an example (although I did mention thief as part of that example!) I get ignored tons of times. Most small groups are not organized, they’re a collection of 7 or 10 different PUG members. Generally the first several targets that get spotted will be the ones taking the brunt of the damage. Even wading 1600 units through the rest of your group to get to you is sort of a big deal.

If you get ignored, a LB is devastating. If they focus you, who cares, you wanted to be using your melee anyway.

We know from the sheer numbers involved in WvW realm avenger titles, whatever class someone has named as useless, that person has been killed by it hundreds or thousands of times. Not only that, they’ve been brutally humiliated by said class.

Remember that one time on your warrior when you were defending a camp against a solo mesmer, and he killed you and then took the camp anyway?

Warriors and guardians are mostly good in the safety of a zerg. If I find a guardian when I’m solo capping on my ranger, oh man, I get tunnel vision for that stomp.

Show me a well playing and winning tPvP LB ranger, or WvsW smallscale!.

I totally disagree with the guy saying LB is optimal or even good in PvP, but the anti-thief capabilities are too good to deny for WvW. 90% of roamers are backstab thieves, so to have a weapon that naturally counters them is dandy.

Small group WvW, LB is excellent if the other team ignores you at 1600 range and focuses on the guardian or where the stealthed thief is. If they engage you, LB quickly becomes mediocre, but that’s why you have a sword on swap. The other team might not be “well playing” if they let a LB ranger massacre them all in seconds, but the ranger can still be.

1) If you join spectator or leave the game, you can not return to active play, to prevent an autobalance every 10 seconds.

2) For the losing team, add a quarter (?) of your personal score to your standard score to encourage playing when you’ve clearly lost.

Longbow is good for solo roaming in WvW. All skills help tremendously in dealing with thieves. Skill 2 tracks stealthed thieves (and possibly outright kills them since they have such low health.) Skill 3 is obvious. Skill 4 interrupts their stealth heal skill. Skill 5 coats SR area or a path you suspect they will take. Sword, and a 2-CC pet combo finishes off your anti-thief set up.

For group roaming or zergs, the longest range weapon in the game’s benefits should be obvious.

Barrage is also a nice way to start meleeing a camp.

On both Citadel of Flames and Ascalonian Catacombs, I originally did the dungeons on an old main character. I have a new main and wanted to be able to open explorable mode for other players, since I run dungeons a lot lately. I redid story mode on the new character, but I am unable to open either dungeon.

I’m finding it very difficult to be motivated if your team is clearly going to lose. Before I could still gain rank by playing well, but if it’s 400 to 100, there isn’t much point in doing anything but afk. I still play to the end because I don’t like to quit, but it’s disheartening and it feels like a chore to play PvP anymore.

But it is a strat, we’ve seen this a LOT in GW1. It was an epidemic.

They tried this in GW1 and in JQ you’d sometimes get 7 out of out players AFKing. Also what is the point in gaining rank if your actual skill does not factor in at all? Not happy with this, I’d much prefer bans to cheaters.

I don’t wanna be a living-in-the-past cliche` here, but let me do a little name droppin:

Most of these were very unique characters doing interesting, or mysterious but SPECIFIC and very Nefarious things that justified the title villain…. And most of them had a very profound impact on what the world is 250 year later.

Several of those are fantastic, but a little unfair. The good ones had a long time to develop. Everyone’s favorite Palawa was the star of an expansion plus a little content in the GW Beyond/Halloween, and GW2 villians haven’t had that chance yet. The LS is basically the first expansion to GW2 and it’s produced your favorite villain so far.

Many of the others on your list are cool just because we know almost nothing about them, which doesn’t really count for anything.

First of all, this comes from a place of love, not mocking. Isaiah is a really bad speaker, constantly punctuating his sentences with “sort of” and “kind of” among other things. You should have someone do some brief speaker training for the people that use the Twitch feed. I want to watch the videos, but you guys are clearly game designers and not professional communicators. For as much as many of you are in the public eye, I think it would really help you present yourselves.

The part everybody loves about the MF is that the weapon testing and end bosses are really well done and not just heavy tanks. I think it could start at the weapon testing section and make a good fractals. I don’t care about killing veteran murellows (even if the drill was a fun idea.)

I don’t see why you need to call people that are new to the game stupid. Circling strafing or dodging is not particularly complicated. People will find anything to complain about if something changes on them. Change the UI colors and people will stage a protest because it has ruined their gaming experience. Saying newbies can’t figure out stationary enemy with a single attack is exactly that.

GW1 is, IMO, one of the best PC games of all time. However I also consider Quake in that category and I don’t have any desire to play that in 2013. Just remember GW1 is quite a bit older than GW2.

This is a really gritty matchup. I’m loving it. FA has made big strides in the point gap towards first place today but it’s been a murderfest for even simple camps by all 3 opponents.

It would need to be a deathmatch, or only 2 points. 3v3 with 3 points is extremely boring if you’ve ever hot joined 5v5. No fighting at all or only duels with no regard for the points.

Many times you don’t even get experience. For example the karka event we killed TONS of vets and champs, but so many people were hitting them it was impossible to tag the things. No tagging, no experience, no drops.

The problem with JP’s in wvw is they take up queue spots for people who want to do wvw and help their server win the wvw. Jp’s contribute nothing to this, especially when you get an entire pve guild playing around in there for hours ‘having fun’ and being rude to wvw players who are politely asking them to leave so we don’t lose fully upgraded t3 towers, camps, garrisons, etc.

When you have spent piles of gold and hours of time as a guild and a server in upgrading and defending in wvw only to see EVERYTHING lost as a result of 30 people being in the JP and laughing while the map turns the enemy’s colour then you will understand why there is so much friction between wvw players and JP campers.

Some will argue that the siege they obtain from the end chest ‘helps the server’ but in reality most siege is bought and used by the commanders and their guilds using badges/gold obtained from fighting in wvw. If JP ‘rs really wanted to help the server they are on, then their guild leader could collect all the siege from his members, and meet the commander and pass it over to them. The funniest argument from JP campers is ’we’re helping by preventing the other server getting free siege’. Really? Allowing them to get badges from cap camps, towers and farm badges from the outmanned wvw players which they can turn into siege..that’s helping?

In tight matches (before server transfers became costly) it wasn’t unusual to see a guild or several suddenly pop up that you hadn’t seen before and fill a JP with 10- 20-30 players and then remain there all day while your server loses points and loses the whole week’s match up, and then disappear again and never be seen again.

The design of the JP’s mean that before they removed siege from being able to place in them you would have a small team from one server that could hold the chest spot forever, especially if they build the siege on top of the chest, meaning it would take people even longer to complete and hence fill up even more space that could be better used by a wvw player contributing to the battle.

By all means keep the pvp element of the JP’s that are in wvw, but remove them to a separate instance please! I’d even be tempted to go in there as an alternative to wvw on occasion, knowing that I wasn’t harming my server’s chances in wvw by being in the JP.

I guess it comes down to this in wvw: are you selfish and just out to help yourself (grab JP chest, grab badges, don’t contribute to server but be happy with the world buffs) or are you in wvw to join with the community and help fight the enemy, and realise that helping the server and having fun and some epic battles/solo fights/whatever helps the server is what wvw is all about.

In fairness dev, I’m sure there are plenty of people that find enjoyment in the jump puzzles you create, so carry on, but try and keep them as an alternative rather than something that has to be done, and let’s hope the other teams that are working on the wider issues can get things done too, otherwise from an outsiders point of view the ‘new content’ will seem more jump orientated than it actually is as people wait for fixes to the other areas of the game.

Respawn is required in WvW to maintain balance. It should be obvious.

The further you get from your home, the harder it is to cap and hold. The closer you are to your home, the easier it is to cap and hold. You want to remove this feature.
