Mistform, OF and Fortify get you 11 seconds of invuln. I suppose he filled in the others with projectile reflects, daze and KD?
If part of a side is killed, it re-spawns within the minute.
12 seconds < 1 minute
Re necros: I forgot about all the fear 5 necros would have access to.
This is a tad overdramatic. My glass cannon ranger, not exactly know for being able to tank, can change utilities for 12 seconds of invulnerability. I could even take a pig for 15 seconds. Stealth on a Longbow for 3 seconds, and I haven’t even used a heal yet. Equip a greatsword for an evade every 3 attacks after that. And so on and so forth.
Every class has a way of surviving long enough to stand on the buttons, or if it’s just totally impossible for you, you can distract the enemies attacking your friend on the button.
Necromancer -> No invulnerability!
If you have a party of five necros and thus no invulnerability on anyone, you 1) have a bizarrely weird group 2) have the most possible amount of health in your party and 3) have the most possible amount of distraction bodies, even if they only last one hit. You only need to be on the buttons for what is it, 12 seconds?
The responses in this thread are the reason people only want guardians. How many people honestly knew off the top of their head rangers (as an example) could go invuln for 15 seconds? No one has any idea how to play this game other than pre-determined speed run tactics that they did not think up themselves.
Everyone calm down, in a week or two the established methods for completing all the new fractals will be known to everyone and you won’t have to think anymore.
One thing that does worry me is the instability that keeps you in combat the entire run, though. You’ll have to do some serious fractal permutation planning before you start.

Necros are not very mobile, so you can simply leave if you realize you can’t beat him. Literally just using your sword 2 twice should get you completely out of harms way with a necro.
Necros are also often unable to get out of entangle in a timely manner.
That said, I’m not loving spirits for a WvW roaming build. It would be fine with a small group, but on your own I think you need more options. Also you have ZERO mobility in your linked build.

Well said Zenith, I agree with everything you wrote.
LB got a bad rap in tPvP, where it is justified, and I think people carried over that group-think to WvW. The LB damage alone in WvW is enough to justify it. Even one hit on a closing opponent and suddenly it’s a very different fight. Especially against thieves and mesmers that often run around with like 14k health. A 4.5k crit on them is devastating. It doesn’t hurt dogs will often open with a KD at 2100 range or whatever it is.
You’re turning this in to one of those threads “if you do this I will totally own you with this, and I have access to all these amazing skills and utilities.”
The knock back on a longbow is a really big deal because it chains with pet CC. That’s an outstanding skill. So is the stealth because its cooldown is crazy low. Interrupting rapid fire is counterproductive because that brings the mesmer of thief out of stealth.
Mesmers are really good at dueling, easily the best class in the game in my opinion. But I’ve killed literally hundreds of them with a LB because I am not an idiot. I don’t stand there shooting a barrage in to empty space while I let people kill me.
I dislike LB in tPvP, but I’ve had my kitten whooped by it a few times. If for no other reason that when the duel closes distance you’re going to get off several LB shots and if even one of those hit the mesmer loses a quarter of his health. Even if that’s all you do with the LB and don’t even use the KB, that’s a big deal.
Don’t get so defensive about it, used intelligently it’s has a ton of utility.
Passive builds usually aren’t better in theory, it’s that there is less room for user error.
actually i would argue LB is better then SB vs mesmers and thieves due to RF tracking into stealth
As a mesmer, I’d take a LB ranger over a SB one, any day. A LB ranger is one of the easiest targets in the game for a shatter mesmer. Very little weapon mobility. Terrible close-range DPS. Slow moving projectiles. Easy-to-interrupt AoE. Etc. The SB evade alone makes it a better suited weapon to counter the burst of mesmers and thieves.
You’re talking about people that ONLY use a longbow and don’t have anything on switch. Proper use of a LB in a 1v1 is for the KB, stealth, and stealth tracking. Or for the extreme long range; you’d be surprised how many mesmers let me kill them from long range with 3 or 4 autoattacks.
Could you guys cool it on Cantha, please? I do believe the devs have gotten the message by now. No point in repeatedly asking for a statement by ArenaNet every 10 posts. They will put Cantha in the game if and when they so desire.
Pretty sure it’s exactly the opposite. As I understand it, Anet wanted to add Cantha and NCSOFT said no because they thought the fans wouldn’t want it. So if you want Cantha, continue letting people know you do.
The way they’re progressing with the living story and trying to keep people concentrated, I don’t see them adding a new continent perhaps ever, though.
It’s crit damage, barrage’s only condition is cripple. Most LB users are berserker.
Also arrow carts have the same graphic as barrage, that may have been what was being spammed. Barrage can’t really be spammed.
I often run s/d and a/w so you get the best of both worlds.
Way too much. Just way too much.
It’s a format question really.
WvW, if you want a bow (and do consider axes or 2 melee sets) I think you have to go with the longbow. Stealth, extreme long range, AoE cripple, anti-stealth rapid fire… the LB is basically made for WvW.
SB does well in duel-y situations. Every single skill focuses on annoying your opponent’s plans. Its pressure damage is definitely intense. I don’t like the SB compared to the other weapons in sPvP, but a lot of highly ranked players use it, and with good reason.
Does this ostracizing actually exist, or is it a myth based on kittenty players getting kicked?
Here is my experience. I do a lot of speed clear and I like high level fractals. I see a lot of competent rangers using sword or GS. Does the bowbear with 450 APs get kicked from level 50 fractals? Yes. Does the s/w ranger with 10k AP get kicked from a CoF speed clear? Never going to happen. Not one single time have I ever been kicked from a dungeon speed clear. Not ONCE.
I never mind having spirit rangers with me, and I do see them occasionally in fractals. You could go like 30/10/0/30/0 or something.
helps but you lose dmg on yourself and that hurt´s the group more than it help
Well the guy wanted other possible builds. Unlike dungeons, fractal PUGs are not about pure damage. I ran a level 60 something fractal with four rangers and a necro (probably the smoothest group I’ve ever had, oddly) and that spirit of stone was very welcome indeed.
F I R S T, you just need to get used to the fights, then you’ll know when to go range and when to melee, when to dodge, and what skills and pets to change for each fight. Using a ranger is fine, knowing the fractals is way more important than your profession.

I’m a big fan of hunting thieves in WvW. I’ll also go out of my way to hunt down engis and guardians.
In sPvP, mesmers are my nightmare. Unless the mesmer is bad (like I am with them) in which case they are then the easiest by far.
I’ll echo every single person in this thread with saying you’re using the “right” pets for any sort of PvP.
I prefer drakehound and wolf over the spider, since it has more damage but a similar amount of CC, and the fear is ‘harder’ CC. I wait for a dog KD, then KD on the bow, straight in to the wolf fear. The cripple on two dogs doesn’t hurt either.
We (FA) want to play too. If there is a hostile location on the map, of course people are going to head to it. People aren’t going to stop WvWing just so other servers feel comfortable.
I think it’s purely a logo concept.
I thought I remembered anet saying they had employees on every single server. Would make sense since there are like 300 of them. I know I’ve seen several on FA.
What if players could opt of of the leaderboard in order to keep their progress?
The amount of time and effort it takes to get as high as some people have is insane. Past a certain point basically every single monster is a champion.
I feel like it didn’t go over the head of most of us. Rangers are welcome at level 80+ fractals and they are banned from level 10 fractals.
If you want to do a level 10 fractal, do a level 11 instead and stop dealing with these idiots.
I have to reiterate the type of group you were joining, level 48 fractals are supposed speed clears that very specific people want to do. “CoF1 P1 zerker war ONLY!!!#!@#!” The players there are usually dumb and have no idea what they’re doing. Anything that doesn’t fit the template will be kicked. You could be a 20k achievement point engi with every support skill available and you’d be at risk for getting kicked.
If you had joined a level 51 fractal 20 times with a bear bow, I think you would have been kicked 0 times. It’s worth trying.
just move the lowest score to the other team. What’s the downside in that?
You keep a stacked team stack which defeats the entire purpose of rebalancing. That’s the downside.
Yup. It’s always been the case. Volunteer if you get the chance, most people don’t know that and don’t do it.
1) You get the win bonus no matter what if you’re moved.
2) Why would you move the possibly worst player to the other team in the situation where everyone has been in the game the same time? That just means more players will rage.Worst player is not equal to the person with the fewest points. It just means they joined last.
That’s why I clarified if everyone has been in the game the same amount of time, which was your scenario. Even then I still clarified “possibly” since certain roles don’t accumulate many points.
Bottom line, you win no matter what if you get swapped, so there is no reason to care.
I recommend not doing level 10, 20 or 48 fractals as a ranger. Those are the “zerker war only” farm groups doing dailies and the players are absolutely awful.
I use a glass cannon s/d a/w usually, although I do have several situations where I prefer LB, especially as you get higher and higher. Highest I’ve done is 67 and it gets very difficult to survive even as a warrior against some things. Get me the f away from a level 67 mossman.

To be clear, this has nothing to do with the ranger. People have been complaining about the targeting system since beta.
I’m not even sure if they can recapture you if you walk back in.
They do indeed retangle you. They create a neat little trap that you can occasionally lure people over in small group fights.
Anywho, I didn’t realize entangle immobilizes already stealthed thieves. That could come in really handy in a close fight.
A condition built ranger is one that uses traps and possibly a torch. if you don’t use traps, you should not be pushing for strong condition damage.
That’s just not true. sPvP spirit rangers are condition. Anything with a SB is usually condition.
You either lagged and died in WvW when you left, or you lagged and died in PvE when you started.
No that’s completely inaccurate. WvW kills you if you exit the game and are in combat to prevent people from escaping armor repair via alt-F4.
The suggestion that combat lasts longer in WvW is probably the cause, as I do get credit for kills I’m no where near a lot. I’ll make sure I sit at the home base for a few seconds before logging out from now on.
I know that if you exit WvW while in combat it will count as a death, so I always get out of combat before leaving the game. However next time I log in I am always lying dead in a ditch somewhere. Is there some trick to not having my armor broken every time I want to go get some food? Is there a time-out-of-combat minimum requirement, say 60 seconds? Do I need to be in the homelands invulnerable area to log out?
Everyone who responds will have their own favorite pets or experience where a certain pet shines; I’m really just looking for a pure numbers chart.
It gets very confusing in that the cat does way more damage than a moa, fury doesn’t affect condis, might affects both, etc. Even that the moa has an AoE heal. All of this depends on how many people or pets are affected. Are bone minions affected??
I was hoping there was some calculator that attempted to make sense of it. I already know who I prefer in any given situation but I want to back it up with something, even if I have to fill in some holes.
Also pets can’t crit against world bosses right? So a cat would he a the clear wrong choice against a world boss, unless you factor in the might from a stalker. Etc.
(edited by Fluffball.8307)
Is there a detailed pet calculator our there? I’m curious what the base DPS and Condi/PS of each pet is, and what each utility skill “costs” you to use, and per pet. So for example might it be a mistake to use the might on a stalker if it only hits itself or even itself and you, or is it more efficient to use a red moa over a cat in certain party numbers, etc. etc.
On that topic, is there a chart out there that gives a detailed breakdown of exactly how much dps and condi/ps each pet has as a base? I want to quantify how much you “pay” for pet utility skills.
Would you have 2 more on swap? That would be 14 straight seconds of hard CC plus cripple with 4 dogs.
If not, your 2 pets would be dead 100% of the time.

I reported this in game as well, but it’s completely ruining the game for me. When the battle music starts playing it won’t stop no matter what unless I completely turn the game off. Even the loading screen plays the battle music. It’s driving me insane!
Most people go all power/crit, some go all condi.
Edit: Oops, I forgot to mention I’d reccomend carrying a set of your main damage armor and then a set of more defensive gear so you can play any situation with the same attributes.
Sword/warhorn, frost spirit and spotter are somewhat expected of you in dungeons/fractals. Any of the signets and muddy terrain are popular in WvW.
You’ll probably have a lot more than 33% chance to crit because it’s in the same line as your crit damage and rangers have extremely easy access to fury. It’s not uncommon to have 100% chance to crit.
I switch pets for every situation. Cats and drakes are popular for PvE and dogs are for WvW/PvP, but the special abilities of each pet are good to know and use them when the situation calls for it. You said you like your stalker most of the time, which is a solid choice, but make sure you swap pets regularly for the heal and whatever boons you’ve traited.

I totally agree with this. I’ve posted a few colorblindness problems myself.
Another one that gets me is the similarity of masterwork to exotics. I hate to think how many exotics I’ve sold to a merchant.
First of all THANK YOU guys for changing the WvW colors. That was a big help. But the top WvW info bar that says which color the three worlds are is still really muddy. I have to figure it out based on what color my homeworld borderlands mostly are (which can be chaotic on reset night), or by actually entering a WvW map.
It’s a PvE problem more than a weapon problem. The community has reduced the endgame to berserker skill 1 spamming on ALL classes, and if Anet adds anything that changes that, people flip out and say the content is too hard and only caters to the elites.
Use the ranger weapons in PvP and they become much more fun. Critical even. You’ll be screaming at your monitor for your skills to recharge quicker because you need them right now.
With the exception of class’ bunkers builds. Those are just dull. Like the spirits skill 1 SB build. Ugh. Get rid of capture points.
It happens, I’ve had 300 point combacks in hot join. But the point is you’re 99.5% guaranteed to get as many points for /sleep as you are for that 300 point comeback.
this point separate the man from the boys
Agreed. However it doesn’t make for fun games. It also failed in GW1 when dishonor totally failed.
Edit: I mean because almost everyone will opt for the easier reward. Why put in a heroic effort when smoking a bong hit will do just as well?

I voted 5 v 5 but if someone leaves it will ruin the hotjoin probably permanently. There would have to be a STRICT penalty for leaving.
