Not most of those days, all of those days. It takes 90 minutes to enter REM sleep IIRC, so you would die. But you would have the Giant Slayer achievement points.

Asuran heavies aren’t incredibly uncommon. I feel like they are actually incredibly common but I don’t have much in the way of lists to back that up. Also it’s hard to tell what profession members of the Vigil are since they all wear heavy armor. Asuran warriors existed even back in GW1. Any race of any size is going to wind up having a militia or army or even just having average citizens be able to defend themselves. Skritt and dwarves are tiny, but they use martial weapons all the time.

It’s mildly of out of your hands if your pet dies in a zerg, but if you stay tightly stacked on the commander, your pet will be shielded from most of the AoE. There was an amusing video on reddit a few weeks ago where a guy on BG fought a ZvZ while completely naked just to prove that point (although with humans, not AI, but same principal.) Also develop a Spidey sense about swapping pets when they are wounded.

I for one am glad for this new boss, as giants are a pain to kill by yourself. Now I just need to kill him 990 more times to max my achievement.

If you get off your lazy butt, that’s only 42 straight days of giant slaying.

Sounds like you’ve already decided on ranger, since you said you have more fun on it, are better at playing it, and are posting on the ranger forum.

However I think you’re making the right choice for a couple reasons. Rangers are obviously waaaay more mobile than necros. If you like roaming, necro is literally the last class I’d take. Necros are better in zergs, but I use my ranger on the front lines very often and do just fine.

Also, if you use the “frostspotter” build, you can use your ranger in dungeon runs without complaint, while necros are less welcome.

Well Jory is sort of crazy and ruthless, by far my favorite. Her response to Scarlet asking if she’s going to arrest her, “ya something like that” while drawing her dagger was fantastic.

But anyway, it could be setting up character growth. The group is incredibly young age wise, and most of them haven’t been through that much yet. Even if Anet didn’t write any character growth at all, you’ve got to imagine the voice actors wanting to change their characters after they’ve seen some kitten. And on that note it may not be coincidence that Jory is the toughest by far when she’s had the roughest life of them all.

In addition to learning on the greatsword, check out gw2dungeons.net, and watch your combat log when you die. For example in quite a few of the dungeons you can get wrecked by conditions, which has nothing to do with your glassy armor. I would forever drop LR from your dungeon-bar and take Signet of Renewal, which also double and triples as a stun breaker and complete group condi removal.

I run “Sic Em!”, FS and then in the wild card slot I usually have SoR. QZ if SoR is definitely not needed. (And swap things around for special occasions, like if you solo run the scepter pieces in AC or something.)

Fluffball.8307

He’s only 17 isn’t he? That might explain his awkwardness. Also his current traveling companions are extremely strange. A baby asura he feels responsible for and a charr who treats him like a baby himself. If he was teamed up with another norn, I can see them acting differently.

Other than that, he’s very eager to dive in to fights and prove himself, as has been the case since we first met him, which is very norn-like.

Isn’t the EA just an overarching idea the asura have? I feel like it’s along the lines of us on Earth saying “there is no magic or supernatural stuff; everything can be studied.” A way of looking at things rather than something that produces products. Kerrsh basically says neither norn nor dwarf nor human spiritualities are necessarily wrong, they just exist and are things that happened.

That’s how I interrupted it all anyway.

One that is scalable. Like has been brought up, the golem and FE are both soloable. I don’t know what the health pools are, but you get the idea.

Fluffball.8307

I’m saying I think it scale to the level of the golem OR spawn 4 times a day (or whatever it is the other world bosses do.) No one will know when to go to the giant because it spawns 24 times a day. The likelihood of 20 people just randomly showing up seems about nil, since even with the map highly populated right now 20 people aren’t showing up. Thus only organized guild groups will be able to complete it.

I would be 100% ok with it spawning 24 times a day if it had like 100,000 health. That would be a really fun way to nonchalantly work on the giant title.

We knew a whole lot about the charr. There were no guardians in GW1, but they did have charr ritualists, paragons and monks, which is as close as you can get.

I swear they talked about sylvari taking up all aspects of life out of curiosity as well. But probably no hard examples.

Fluffball.8307

No one is going to do the giant if they don’t make it scale to that level or put it on the world boss schedule. I think the idea may have been to give people a giant to kill once an hour for the achievement track, but that’s inferior to the quest in Brisban, and an awful lot of work if you don’t at least get a bonus chest every hour.

I don’t think increasing my damage 5x would change anything. It is a legendary world boss after all, not some dungeon boss like Lupi.

If Jory’s mom is homophobic, Anet would have to resolve it in a single conversation. You can’t leave that hanging over a couple or several episodes, otherwise Anet would appear to be writing anti-gay hate speech with no immediately visible resolution. Could be terrible PR if taken out of context.

Personally I think Jory’s family has a problem with privileged nobility and the gay thing is a non-issue. It might even be personal, like Kasmeer’s brother did something horrible to one of Jory’s sisters when he was drunkenly gambling.

In EotN you do a quest where a norn summons the dead from the underworld. He was technically a ritualist I think, but there you have it. Maybe he was a Rt/N.

Sad that Belinda died as now we will see more emo Jory

Jory strikes me more as psycho than emo. She was on the verge of insanity in the Tower of Nightmares and she had no intention of taking Scarlet prisoner but was rather just going to slit her throat and watch her slowly drown in her own blood (which I agree with, but she’s cold as ice.) I think this death is going to make her even more vicious.

I mentioned in another thread I don’t think we’re supposed to care about Belinda, but rather care about Marjory.

At any rate, thinking about it I actually really like it if there is no rhythm to when people die. If anyone can go at any time (similar to your Game of Thrones reference) it really keeps you guessing. I mean we all knew she was going to die, but what if when she first showed up in S2, half way through her saying “oh hey Jory!” she just got ripped in to quarters by a vine. That would be completely unexpected. Some characters can died after we’re invested in them, some die completely unexpectedly. But all men must die.

Another issue is that it isn’t linked to anything, it just spawns, and very frequently for that matter.

There doesn’t feel like a reason to fight it, even though the fight is insanely easy.

Ya I was worried about that as well. I wonder what the bare minimum number of people you can kill it with. I assume you only get the bonus chest once per day? Maybe it will eventually spawn on a more orderly schedule like the other bosses.

Let’s compare with the Claw of Jormag:

  • It forces you to remain pew pewing at max range.
  • None of the attacks are particularly worth dodging; even in full beserker you can eat the ice drops without moving.
  • Periods of brain-dead DPSing with literally zero mechanics after you pew pew the shield down.
  • Has copious amount of champs and vets that make the combat annoying and tedious; you either ignore them and they down people 1 at a time, or you kill them for little to no gain.

The giant:

  • Can easily down you, so you can’t afk, yet it has mechanics that are instantly understood so you can hop right in to melee range and actively play.
  • There are not 40 champs randomly downing people.
  • Does not have random death moves; to this day I have no idea what the karka queen’s attacks and tells are because there is no reason to bother fighting in melee range.
  • Lets us use our skills like condi removal, stun breaks, reflects, blocks, etc.

Southsun had its own design concepts that were pretty interesting overall, but the “vista density” of Dry Top is comparatively off the charts…

One of the best things about GW2 environments is their ability to make you feel incredibly small. I have a healthy fear of heights, so I absolutely love taking a second to realize I’m like 60 stories off the ground hugging a 4 inch ledge. Mini adrenaline rush on demand.

Celestial is all the rage in PvP recently. Rangers are a pretty good candidate since most of our weapons are hybrid power/condi. Sounds like a WvW weapon.

Maybe you can stick it on a sword or dagger and just get a little condi out of them even though you’re running a power build? I’m not sure a single piece of equipment will make much of a difference though.

Whenever another class uses its unique mechanic, stuff happens instantly.

I was actually thinking about that tonight. I tried to force myself to play my warrior. Her big adrenaline attack has a huge tell (eviscerate) and does not have the blind of a raven for example. A ranger ability is not as weird as one might expect.
