I don’t think we’re even disagreeing with anything. I will often show newbies dungeon paths. If I want to play for realsies in a stress-free manner, I clear several dungeons with people in ascended berserker gear.

Semi on topic funny story, when I was trying to learn to solo Arah, I added all of the Arah mentors to my friends list and named them “Arah Mentor number 1” and etc. Now sometimes when I make a LFG, someone will turn up named “Arah mentor number 1” instead of “Billy Tom” or whatever their real name is.

So its almost sure now, that trees are created by dragons sleeping beneath them, so there is good dragon under Pale Tree, and another tree above Mordemorth, and Sylvari are not corrupted and thats dragons failure, or they are gonna trigger, like Cylon’s FF.

It’s not almost sure. We haven’t gotten any additional info about slyvari this season yet, and nothing at all to suggest there is a dragon under a tree anywhere.

Oh ha, the thought of someone using rares never even crossed my mind. I’ve never seen that. It would be really weird since a single day or two of dungeon running would net you enough money to buy an exotic set, and you wouldn’t put scholar runes on rares. I just meant berserker gear in general; no one runs 20+ dungeons a day not in berserker gear (or assassins for some, and whatever the heck meta engis are supposed to use, you get the point.)

Hence why I usually post LFGs that say “meta zerker ping gear 3.5k AP” or something. It basically reduces the number of people I don’t want to play with down to zero, and I have stress free runs. You would be pretty hard pressed to find someone who runs 20+ dungeons a day and isn’t in ascended or at least exotic berserker gear; I find it a better “metric” than AP.

Uhg… all Zerk party is fine if you want to do it that way but acting like it’s the only way to go is just ignorant.

I’m not acting like it’s the only way. I, and all the other “elitist” have absolutely zero problem with people running whatever build they want. I just don’t want to play with them, much in the same way I am not friends IRL with, let’s say, radical environmentalists. I have nothing against them and respect them, I just don’t have much in common with them. That’s what the AP reqs basically come down to. Like the OP and I’ve said many times, it’s just shorthand for wanting to play with like minded people.

I’ve never, ever been a fan of full spirits. So your point about condi removal and stun breakers can be worked in to a spirit build if you decide to go that route. SoR is just such an amazing, and possibly even underrated skill for all 3 game modes, with personal condi removal, stun breaker, and emergency group condi removal all rolled in to one. Or any number of other options!

The fact you’re making that assumption makes you one of the players I’d not want in my parties at all.

Which goes back to my original point that I would never join one of these “everyone welcome” dungeon runs. I don’t want to play with that type of player, and I expect you not to join my “meta zerker builds only” LFGs. Neither one of us is wrong, we just don’t want to play together, and I don’t understand why anyone tries to force themselves in to a group they’re not welcome in.

They are complaining about something they themselves helped create. If you are forming pug groups, be willing to take longer and have to train up new people- occassionally you will find a real gem who in a few runs becomes better than you could ever hope to be.

Fast dungeon runs don’t require skill, they require people running meta builds in berserker gear and doing cohesive meta tactics. It doesn’t matter how good the player is, if they aren’t already in berserker gear, they are not going to wear it no matter how much you try to ‘teach them the dungeon path’.

The one exception might be if you had 4 people in berserker gear taking a guy who ran dungeons a whole lot in PVT or condi gear. When he sees the overwhelming speed and ease difference, it might open his eyes. But your typical PUG will see a group doing well and assume him and his tanky PVT is the reason why, and not the 4 berserker eles.

There is nothing you can say to someone to convince them to abandon tanky gear; they need to come to the conclusion on their own, much like creationists have to dig themselves out of that without the help of others. You can’t logic a “creationist” to start wearing berserker gear. So teaching PUGs is not usually worth anyone’s time.

Variations of this build have been popping up almost daily since the SotF patch. I use something pretty similar in WvW for solo play. In PvP, I just don’t understand why people are using it. It offers effectively zero team support.

What’s I find weirder is your build is 95% similar to a typical spirit build, only you’ve removed all team support and replaced it basically with self condi removal. I think you actually have too much condi removal some how. :P

Am I missing something or are you at 95% bleed duration? I’m pretty tired.

Excess coins for Dry Top pls

Fluffball.8307

I agree with both sides, ha. I found all 60 coins without a guide, however the first 59 were joyful exploration. The last one — and this was my own fault due to the completionist in me — was literally 6 hours of gruelingly scrubbing every single inch of the map over the course of a few days. I even did result to dulfy, however I wound up finding it on my own because it was in a location I swore I had already gotten.

Map completion in GW1 was similarly painful (nothing like GW2), but there was a small amount of leeway. You could have 100% map completion even while missing a small town, just because the experience was so painful to get. So I lean towards there being like 2 extra coins. Not removing the final tier, just adding 2 leeway coins.

The Krytan Amulet and The Legend of Magdaer

in Lore

Posted by: Fluffball.8307

Fluffball.8307

About among other things the amulet:

Waller said that while players may not see potential story hooks like these picked up immediately, they’re certainly “interesting” and ripe for speculation. He also cautioned that plot threads which appear to lead to obvious conclusions might actually head off in an entirely different direction. Hopefully that’s good news for those of us who are fans of Kryta’s young queen.

It sounds like they aren’t ready to use the amulet, if it’s even going to be used as a storyline at all. The way it’s phrased sort of scares me, like they didn’t expect the fan base to pay attention to it and it was just a random piece of magic a dragon wanted.

The story has been so interesting lately, I hope it doesn’t fall flat and just be a generic “rally the forces and kill the mindless dragon who wants to eat magic”, and all our speculation is us coming up with interesting stories that will never happen.

The combo solution is the best. There is a bare minimum amount of AP almost anyone would be willing to accept without assuming it’s going to be a student/teacher type run. Let’s arbitrarily say it’s 2k. I also list gear pings and meta build requirements in my LFGs. I don’t only want someone who is hardcore in to the game with 25k AP, I also want someone is knows the meta and understands why berserker’s is being requested of them.

It’s really just shorthand for “I want to play with people like me”. I don’t want to play with you, staff cleric’s guardian, we would not be friends. Why people insist on forcing themselves in to not like-minded groups is beyond me.

That’s not a similar comparison; you’re being silly. You have to have a character color. You can’t not be a color. You don’t have to have a house. Every one has no choice but to see your character colors. No one would ever see a player’s house. Random person: “Hey Fluffball, want to see my house?” Fluff: “Absolutely not, I’m playing the game.”

Spirit/Pet/Support PvE Build?

in Ranger

Posted by: Fluffball.8307

Fluffball.8307

Keep in mind regen and water field combos are based on the healing power of the person using them, not the person who provides them, which is one of many reasons healing power is borderline useless in PvE. Because your wife will be playing a warrior, she really does not need you for another other than boosting her damage (warriors are extremely durable.) If you go full support you will be fairly useless to her and will only be doing a tiny fraction of her damage, which probably won’t be fun in the long run.

I like Lugh’s builds as open-world support concepts, but I would try to get as much damage as possible out of your gear. Are you planning on buying a matching set of exotic armor? If so you’d probably want berserker or rampagers (and berserker will double as the only acceptable armor if you ever decided to do dungeons with other PUGs.)

Another thing, I would probably try to get both spotter* and piercing arrows out of the marksmanship line, which means 6 points in to it. Bows really need piercing arrows to be even mildly effective in PvE.

Finally you can do better than a pet bear. Red Moa has a little AoE healing and provides AoE fury; that’s one of the best support-y type pets. Ice drake for AoE damage plus chilling things so your wife can catch them more easily. And the ever popular jungle stalker for the best single target damage and AoE might.

*That’s presuming you wind up using mostly a shortbow at close range and the greatsword. One of the problems with longbow is you are so far away from your allies they can’t receive any of your boons. Which sounds totally incompatible with how you want to support your wife!

I know there are some clues as to your opponent’s skill, but it’s just a general comment. If you completely annihilate a skilled opponent, people will still comment he was clearly a noob based purely on the fact he lost the fight.

The only NPC players remotely care about are Quaggans, Skirtts and Tybalt (because he’s a goofy char).

The only NPCs we spend a bit of time with are :
-Treahearne, which a lot of players dislike because he’s the Pact leader
-Rox, Braham, Marjory, Kass and more recently Taimi.

Of those, the only death that would shock and move players would be Taimi’s. Which they won’t kill.

Ya, I agree. I think they’re trying to get us to care more about the characters lately so when someone does die, we care. I don’t know if I’d label is as “caring”, but it would be shocking to me if Braham died. I like Marjory enough I don’t want anything bad to happen to her. I really like her. Don’t get me wrong, LotRs is a great series that I loved as a child and I own all the movies, but literature has moved beyond that bubble gum cheese. If you’ve heard JRR talk about GoT, he says basically the same thing. He too loves LotR, but it should not be copied. LotR is black and white, GoTs is interesting.

We can’t go anywhere close to the extreme of GoTs for this game, but we can learn something from it. Anet is definitely not afraid to kill people, they do it constantly with brutal regularity. They just have to make sure it has impact for us. And I will be a happy camper.
