And while I’m sure Rift is an ok/good game, but for them to be able to put out a totally free expansion that would mean they’re probably sucking up to the whales hard to pay for it all.

probably…not. but hey , I’m sure you played it and you know what you are talking about… -_-

What he said has nothing to do with ingame content. Rift is free to play, which means they get their income from somewhere, which are the players who put in money into their ingame store. Usually the main income in such a financial structure are the players who spend loads of money in the store, the so called “whales”.

I hope you realise that the Rift devs don’t simply update the game for free out of the goodness of their hearts. (Which would be unhealthy tbh) They too have to make a living.

So instead of assuming that the Guild Wars 2 HoT expansion must be free because other MMOs or other games do so is merely a choice ArenaNet makes. I think either decision is fine, as a paid expansion would simply mean that everyone chips in. That said.. the price must be fair to the amount of content, and I hope they will be able to do some good things with the money.

Yeah, I played the demo at RezzedEGX and this was just a 2 hour rehash of that.

As for the use of “story instance” boundaries within the stresstest, Im fairly certain that’s just to stop people to explore the full map just yet before it’s actually ready. I am surprised that some people think that that means it was a story instance instead.

Also, Guild Wars 2 is in no way comparable to anything as life sustaining as food. If anything the money we give ArenaNet is the food, and the content we get is the produce we get from feeding them.

Whether there is a price tag or not is totally irrelevant. It’s content, people work for you to get you that content, it’s a product. THus you pay for it.

They tried giving it for free while trying to get people to pay them through the ingame store. But that is not very reliable to provide a huge content update. Thus you pay for an expansion.

That said, you can’t get any update for this game anywhere else for free, ArenaNet is in their full right to provide their content in any way they want. Whether it’s reliant on a few who buy gems or on everyone paying an equal amount is just a difference.

Lol…… you’re not innocent when you play something that isn’t meta? It’s not like it’s criminal or anything.
if anything is criminal is stacking on a boss without even thinking about taking a step back instead of mindlessly stacking.

Support guardian works fairly well in any occasion. . If you bring the right build and know how to position.

The only thing that’s stupid here is not bringing AR. That game system is there to force you to invest in it before you continue. (Although if you’re really good 10-19 agony really doesn’t do that much) You cant soak Agony skills without AR. You really should switch strategies if stacking doesn’t work for your team.

This whole STACKKKK!!!! (Because it’s the only thing we know) attitude is the most harmful thing in this game as it dumbs players down and when it doesn’t work they panic.

Yeah, then nobody will be able to login and find a tag or fight… Make It unfun for all haha. Seriously, why would you suggest breaking apart 3 stable servers? Not everyone enjoys seeing tumbleweeds and barren maps. I moved to T2 for action at all timezones.

Oh but it’s fine if they break other servers, as long as it’s not yours? Because you live under the assumption everyone wants that in the lower servers.

In other MMOs most bosses are simply invulnerable to all CC.

That said there are quite a bit of champions in Guild Wars 2. So just looking at some of those champions and changing the way defiance works on those should help.

But otherwise there’s not that much of a problem with defiance I think.

Permanently stable mobs tend to more of a problem.

The story is so typically cliché at the start and the quests really don’t come to life with the instancing and didn’t grasp me with a good sense of story.

Which makes it no different from any other video game, including this one where the plot, dialogue, etc, are beyond poor, packed full of clichés and at the level that is of a bad children’s book.

Yea I suppose there are many in gw2 as well, I guess that wasn’t the actual reason it was so boring to me. I think.. it was more that it starts with evil bad guy needs stopping and you’re the one to stop him makes for a non engaging starting experience, whereas in GW2 your character is introduced as an actual character with an actual background of their own. (And in the end you’re not even the one who did it all which to me was better than being the single Hero type. Tbh more realistic.)

Wrong Day in: HoT Closed Beta Stress Test?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

FrizzFreston.5290

What I would like to know about the whole beta thing ..

Are only those people that have registrated themself in that “Newsletter” stuff Gailed talked about invitations for the beta test.

Or do receive also other people Beta Keys.
How exactly will the give out of the beta invitations work for the closed beta.

Will it be like “All out at Once”, or more like a key giveout in multiple “Waves”, so that people, which might not have received so far a beta invitation, may have just to wait to get somewhen later maybe another chance when a next way of keys gets sent out ???

Just curious, I was so far never part of any Beta in Games, about which I cared about, but with GW2, I really would like to be part of that beta, especially also to ensure, so that someone who speaks also German is in there, so that our community also gets enough input of new infos, screens ect.

Don’t know, if Anet sents out invitations just by total random, or of for example all invitations so far went only perhaps to US players only or so.
I know, these kind of betas can be sometimes also very regionally held, due to Developers wanting to ensure, that they get as much as useful feedback as possible from players, that are active, when they are active and Anet sits in the USA….

Wasn’t able to find yet any info about how exactly the beta will be held here.
Can someone or Gaile at best clear me up ? ^^

I’m not sure if they send them in waves but they do send invites to both eu and us.
Im pretty sure some German players have been invited.

Wouldn’t be surprised if some press from every country have been invited, but can’t say that for sure.

I don’t think it’s fair that only a few players can have a great mini like this.

Define fair. I would say this is like a prize for those who actually (sort of) won something in a competition. There’s hundreds of limited amount of goodies for all kinds of stuff in the world. This happens to be one of them. I don’t think it NEEDS to be available for everyone, just because.

That said, it would be nice to at least have some of these to give away during other events, I don’t believe it’s highly necessary.

Like, I wouldn’t go to an ArenaNet booth at a convention asking for a specific shirt they only gave to winning teams, demanding they should give it to everyone, because that’s more fair. Which leads to the same question: Is it really fair? Everyone really should be able to have everything? I don’t think that’s in any way healthy.

When do people start playing in parties?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

With the quality of last patch I’d rather see them working on patches instead of answering your “which quaggan is the cutest?” questions. I mean come on, even the bugs which we learned to live with are bugged. The bugs are bugged, dude.

In Trevor’s defence, it was outside office hours. After a long day of work, “which quaggan is the cutest?” is exactly what he needs. :p

As for partying, when you find yourself playing alongside someone in the open world try to make a comment on their armor, on the pregenerated weather or the events you’re doing.
Some people tend to randomly invite the ones near them, which is okay with me, but then not saying anything does kind of make it awkward.

Just think of it as meeting people at a pub… without the pub, and with people interested in gaming. (hopefully)

Removal Of WvW Map Completion In Patch

in WvW

Posted by: FrizzFreston.5290

FrizzFreston.5290

Except that you like all the content, where we find it repetitive, boring, and predictable. While WvW certainly can be any of those things it also has the potential to change and be interesting.

Now we have to spend the entire time working on map completion outside of what we find “fun”…

Sadly, most WvW tactics are exactly the same. Repetitive, boring and predictable, and the potential to change WvW is in the hands of the players who blame the system that the tactics are repetitive boring and predictable or glitchy.

Of course none of that is of actual concern here.
Anyway, a legendary weapon mostly had been a PvE thing for quite some time. Even PvPers can’t get map completion through their game mode so nothing of that is new. And new legendaries will most likely be a reward in only HoT content. So that trend will most likely continue. There would be a need for a whole different method of acquiring legendary-making materials in WvW for it to work.

That said, the original idea of making legendaries available in all three game modes equally is very much impossible. There will always be one mode where it’s much easier to get it than others, and people will most likely exploit that.

The truth of the matter remains that WvW is very limited in player attainable goals that are of similar value as their PvE counterparts. I don’t think giving a gift of exploration for full WvW map completion would be very fair as it is only 4 maps maybe 5 with EotM.

However a small reward for completing WvW map completion should be a thing in my opinion. Where a gift of exploration is probably too much, something else that entices people to play WvW for that would be pretty cool.

FrizzFreston.5290

Yes, prolonging content by reducing everyone’s effectiveness sure is fun.

It is not prolonging. It is fixing a old bug with scaling giving players higher stats than they should have.

Omg it will make speed runs take +5 seconds killing mobs. Unaceptable…

I think you are missing the point. Even with those changes AC bosses die really fast, so you don’t have to pay more attention, play better or anything. So all it does is make fights longer while not adding anything strategy-wise. Which is a pretty stupid concept, even if it was just a “bug-fix”.

On another note, precision is scaled as well. And pretty horribly at that. A warrior has in AC 39% crit-chance and if you swap in Signer of Fury you get to 57%.

So your point is that the change barely affects the speed which makes the change unnecessary because it just prolongs the fights. That doesn’t even make any sense. I will agree that it doesn’t add difficulty (strategy wise). But surely diminishing the gap between 35s and 80s is hugely more important than steamrolling through the dungeon anyway. Plus, it does make itharder for people who haven’t super memorized the speedclear way.

I prefer that scaling works alot better now, rather than some arbitrary increase in dungeon time spend. If you’re good enough you can speed it up even more still rather than hang back.
If anything the length should be moving towards a normalized length that applies to all the levels above the dungeon level. Which means that if it does take too long the dungeon need to change, but not the downscaling system.

Btw, im just going to say that thisstat decrease might not even be a dungeon system change but adownscaling system change. Which is a good thing if anything.

WvW no longer required for world completion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: FrizzFreston.5290

FrizzFreston.5290

Personally speaking. Removing map completion rewards is basically something people never wanted to be removed. If anything, they should give all the maps map completion rewards rather than removing them all where they deem it not part of world exploration.

It feels like a hasty decision, after 2 years of complaining about it. Which is really odd, as this doesn’t feel like they took a long thought about it, or cared enough about replacing it with something equally engaging. Nope, they just removed it. It shows very little thought about the effects of this change, even with the blog post discussing it.

Hopefully, there will be a dev agenda point about making map completions that are not part of world completion that will be randomly added in well… another 2 years whensome dev finds it somewhere on a random to do list. But I’m guessing.

WvW map rewards

in WvW

Posted by: FrizzFreston.5290

FrizzFreston.5290

In a way it makes sense to remove the rewards for map completion, as it distracts from the actual game mode somewhat. But otherwise I don’t understand why they left all the exploration things in that basically serve no purpose other than showing names and such. PoI’s you can at least ping and such for locations, but the amount of skill points, the vistas really don’t add anything. So following some of the reasoning to remove map completion rewards, why are those things there anyway? Why not automatically fully explore the WvW map for everyone if exploring in these maps isn’t really a “thing”?

I don’t understand why such a thing which was complained about for 2 years suddenly needs to change now. It doesn’t hugely improve anything if you ask me. It just feels like “if you complain about it long enough, it will change eventually.” And to be honest I would rather see a stronger stance from ArenaNet, and stand behind their initial design rather than change after change after change. There’s so little consistency it’s a little bit worrying.

There’s no golden standard for the ultimate group of ultimate feedbacks necessary.

You can’t say that one type of feedback is better than the other or that someone who played less or plays in a “a bad way”cannot have access because for some magical reason you cannot have an opinion on something because you’re not good enough. That’s just dumb.

In the end, tt’s all a matter of what ArenaNet does with the feedback. They will know what kind of players are giving what kind of feedback. (If they do it right) which in turn makes it logical that someone who hasn’t played the game for ages and claims it’s “Too hard, this needs to be easier” will be treated differently as someone who is more knowledgable about the game. (Though no invalidated)

I must say, that Colin does always is very expressive in his face when faced with certain questions. I mean, I’m not sure I’m happy or not happy that they can’t talk about certain things. I mean Molyneux talked about EVERYTHING, and then didn’t deliver, while ArenaNet always tends to be very cautious with what they show, and even then sometimes make changes not everyone likes. (Maybe a little too cautious at times).

I think that for now Colin did talk about alot of things, and I must agree that telling us that they’re not ready to talk about something, might mean that they will talk about something in the future that lies in the same directions.

About the size of the expansion, he said that the expansion pack is very feature heavy, which might mean that the actual map additions might be on the smaller size. Although he did not say it’s exactly this and that size, but I would say that that is all very subjective and it won’t be a good answer if he says its big or if it’s small. Which is all the same with all the other questions.

While you bring up a valid point, the fact remains that sex sells, ArenaNet is a business, and ArenaNet will keep providing options to cater to various people, not just ultra conservatives like yourself. I have every right to enjoy skimpy clothing on people just as you have a right to dislike it.

But you can keep on advocating to remove customization options from the game, I’ll keep pushing back against it, because this is a godkitten stalemate.

And no, feminism is very much defined as the empowerment of women. It just happens to have some similarities to the concept of gender equality, but not entirely.

Gender equality, true gender equality, means that both the good and the bad affects the genders the same. You can’t take only the good with it.

I am very far from ultra conservative. Quite the opposite in-fact (being a feminist and being conservative doesn’t really work all that well together). Feels like you do have rather large issues with people not wanting games adding more objectifying things though.

I am not advocating to remove customization. I am advocating for changing customization to something, in my eyes, better. There are plenty of different armors that can be created without them showing off 75% of the characters body.

Feminism is all about creating equality between the genders, ergo gender equality.

Your “equality” infringes on people’s freedom of expression. Showing more or less skin has nothing to do with feminism nor equality.

Either way, Guild Wars 2 is for all people, not just for people who believe everyone should be covered up for a certain percentage. It’s good there are multiple choices and that the customisation system is inclusive to a wide scala of personal views.

I suppose, but I still feel it is wrong to pretend to not like skimpy outfits just because it’s suddenly cool to be all “stop objectifying women” because it’s a trending thing right now.

I personally don’t feel the connection being showing skin/skimpiness and objectifying people. how much skin you’re showing or are comfortable with showing is ideally the choice of the person and part of their character. If someone feels great being dressed more skimpily then they should be able to do so without being judged.

Removing or altering existing armor should not be considered IMO, adding more options, sure.

Removal of “revealing” armor is nonsensical imo.

How about boss taunting player out of stack or in area effect. Taunts aren’t only given to players mobs will have it and if its common it might change stacking.

What’s the difference between a boss taunting a player into an area effect, or a boss using Pull to bring a player into an area of effect? In both situations, the enemy is interrupting whatever it is the player is doing and moving the player closer to itself.

The same difference between launch and fear. That and autoattacking.
Pretty obvious to me.

I can see that taunt with an exaggerated retalition effect could be pretty nice.

With one single exception that no one uses anyway, status effects are not cleanse-able by anyone but yourself.

Lol, I use that virtue of courage trait all the time. I can tell you it’s fairly powerful as well. For a class where you don’t have many stunbreakers having a Guardian with you who can is very helpful.

Not everyone runs the faceroll builds only.

This allows the Tanking role to be more effective and useful to the group.

While I’m all for making healing and tanking viable (not required, Trinity is about locking people into those three roles, simply making them options isn’t bringing back Trinity), the fact is GW2 is downright punitive to anyone trying to play a healing or tanking role. Taunt won’t make tanking more effective, increasing healing power/toughness scaling and introducing an intervention mechanic (the opposite of aggro management, instead of magically grabbing attention you have to actively position yourself to shield others from attacks) is what’s needed to make tanking effective.

You can already position yourself in the line of fire, but that tactic is rarely used.

just block

/15 charrs

I shouldn’t have to, that’s what I’ve been telling several people in this entire discussion.

the block option is not an excuse for bad behaviour.
Nor is the chat filter.
Nor is mute.

There’s nothing you are going to do about it, though. All you can do is set your expectations lower about people. There’s always going to be someone with a bad day or someone who is frustrated, or whatever the reason may be. That is not saying that it’s allright, but it is the way people work.

It’s a bit of a long stretch to expect an utopian world where everyone is nice and jolly and good at all times. There’s some lines you can draw though, but that’s qll very subjective.

Wait, when did orr become hard or a ping pong fest?

Did I miss something?

Did stun breaks and dodging stop working?

Is stability broken?

People liked ignoring mobs too much. It was annoying that some pulled you. That is all it was.

This thread is not even saying taunt is bad. Just any CC is bad. Which is why the whole argument is pointless. There is CC in the game, whether that is with or without taunt. Adding taunt doesn’t make any difference in PvE. In PvP, where most people don’t cry about CC as it’s simply part of the game, it might become OP even.

It won’t be any different from Pull skills.
Some of those are single targeted and very little are actually multi targeted.

That said, it’s only the Revenant so far who we have seen who has it.

I would merely keep quiet when doing my own thing in any map. Players can throw a tantrum all they want, I wouldn’t care. Whether that’s in a dungeon, WvW or PvP area.

Please make Masteries Character-bound!

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

FrizzFreston.5290

To be honest, while I don’t know how they have structured the masteries, I wouldn’t really mind character based unlocks specifically made for them. It would be a great RPG element to it. (But a forced RPG element)

Since WvW has account wide WvW point acquisition, it also has has character “bound” customization. You just unlock point account wide while allocating them per character. Each character has the same amount of points, while also having fully different “builds”.

So, If they keep masteries akin to WvW, you will merely unlock points account wide, while unlocking masteries akin to your character.
Then it will be up to yourself if you add that extra unlock requirement onto it, in order to have something more of an RPG element to it.

That said, I don’t believe that many players these days are “hardcore” (so to say) Role players enough in order to make their own rules within the game world, let alone actually hold yourself to them.

Either way, if that’s true then it basically already is a compromise, and I must say that unlocking points through simple playing without being limited per character is a nice plus.

That said having a story element to certain masteries does sound awesome. Like an unlock of some kind that only happens when you fight a flying mordrem boss where you simply need your glider and only then you embark on a quest to get one. Sure that does sound awesome per isolated case. On the other hand, making the system more complicated just so you have different type of unlocks might not be a great way to do so.
