Pay 2 Win here means “winning” the rewards by paying instead of playing content.

I don’t think there is any problem with making older unavailable skins available again. It does give people to have another chance at previous rewards.

Though I do criticize the way they made it available again.

I mean, If you were going to choose between putting it in the gemstore and putting it behind some ingame content, surely you wouldnt pick the gemstore?

Suggestion: Sell Small Scale Content Packs!

FrizzFreston.5290

They already create all the content currently for “free”. :P

This I am well aware of, and that is also a large part of the problem. See if they make the content for ’free" they need to see how it will affect their income, which becomes this convoluted game of guess work of who to appease to get the most money in gem sales/expansion sales.

However, If they sold the content directly in small batches, they would be able to see exactly what sells, and provide more of it to their players, to that effect, everyone willing to invest into the game gets a return for it.

Isn’t that what we all want, for our investment into the game to be recognized, rewarded and returned?

That would mean that someone who wants to play all the game modes would need to pay alot more than someone who just wants to do a few of those. It becomes cherrypicking, to some extend it could even mean that players might even invest less into the game.

Plus you’d be breaking the entire community apart. Instead of one big game, you basically have all these tiny games. People don’t easily define into tiny little boxes of “fractal player” “WvW Player” “PvP Player” “Raider” etc.

I don’t see this as bringing anything Season 1 back at all. It’s just money grabbing on stuff that is unavailable otherwise.

First they gave it value by only having it available temporarily, and now they are just harvesting the huge price demands.

Yay, rewards from season one by just flashing your creditcard.

I don’t have a problem with the renewed availability per say, but that it’s just dumped on the gemstore unceremoniously in an RNG box of all things is just really really sad. People farmed for hours, put in lot’s of effort to get that stuff within the time that the content was available. And now you can just buy them? Like it’s nothing? That is just very disappointing.

Almost a sign of ArenaNet not valuing their own content.

What’s next? Raid rewards on the gemstore? Seems fair to me.

The horse, of course! Followed by the camel.

Edit
After some research the only horse references are locations, items and the celestial horse. Which is veeery strange, if you ask me.

The other day I was also wondering why there are only Risen Bulls, and no Risen Cows. (I guess orrians didn’t drink mills or just only imported male cows. xD

Two Elite Specs need serious reconsideration

FrizzFreston.5290

I don’t see them reworking any of the elite specializations at all. In a Months time they are releasing the expansion, they should focus on balance and bugfixes.

Plus at some point you’re going to run into "but this class already does close melee damage, close condi damage, ranged condi damage, ranged damage and support. There is nothing new to this new spec, thing.

Some of your “what it does” explanations are fairly biased just to prove your point.

The Main functionality of the weaver is using two elements at once. You don’t even mention it in the what it does department. Especially with elementalist which has access to all of those things at any given time. And they can only use one weapon set. This means that a weaver can be ranged or medium ranged as well by using other weapons with weaver specced.

While adding a new weapon to each elite spec IS a thing, I do think that that isn’t the main feature of each elite spec. You need to take into account all the other weapons you can use as well.

The trick is always to make the group feel like one team which can talk about mistakes freely and accept those mistakes more readily.

That’s what guild groups do

Well obviously. But also experienced PUG players. It’s obviously harder as you don’t know one another as well, but definitely something to aim towards.

A higher morale means a better chance at success. So keeping things positive is one of the main things you need to do in any occasion to be successful. It’s less likely to be successful if there’s a constant pressure to perform or that someone is constantly singled out for their lower damage or whichever. Also forcing people to ping their gear and such things isn’t helping. (Keywords being constantly, and forcing)

It’s really basic Multiplayer rules that apply to any game. Mostly PvP games, but also PvE games. Being toxic is equal to being less successful.

I think its pretty natural that people get possibly more toxic with more organised and harder content.

The more you need to depend on other people, the more youre going to comment on what other people are doing right or wrong. With the frustration rising with harder content (see some posts about higher difficulty JPs) that frustration will be projected more on your teammates.

At times this may lead to more toxicity. Especially when there are people who are more emotionally unstable.

The trick is always to make the group feel like one team which can talk about mistakes freely and accept those mistakes more readily.

On a serious note, the majority of raiders will already be forced to buy the expansion for the new elite specs alone.

Raiders will buy the expansion to play the expansion Raids, I’m not sure if the new elite specs will replace the old builds though. Time will tell

You cant min max or experiment as much with only half the elite specs. While not that important for raids on its own, it does bring alot of new things to the table that as a serious raider you cant just ignore.

New specs can only replace the old if there are more experienced raiders actually trying to use them. The rest of the raiders will just sheepily follow the new meta.

Ofcourse, it’s already a limited view that raiders buy the expansion for raid content pvpers for elite specs etc. I dont believe there are that many players who only do one thing in the game.

Problem is, instead of proposing a new addition to gameplay that in combination with what already exists creates more choices, PoF is actually banishing any advancement obtained through HoT masteries, replacing them with mounts masteries.
Mounting is not a choice, but a requirement, and an artificially created one, which also depends on eliminating previous choices.

Thats the mastery system. Its there to let you progress abilities to explore the map. Same as in HoT.

Then again, I’m totally for character based mastery progression.

shrug Many players avoid mobs with stealth teleports and swiftness regardless of mounts. Have you ever done dungeon or fractal runs? People avoided mobs whenever they wanted to.

So it’s easier to avoid? In the open world there’s not even one location where its not already really easy to avoid fighting.

They updated Orr in the beginning of the games live to make it easier to explore.

Plus if they really need to make it so you cant cheat it with mounta they can make it a mountfree zone. Or install a few mount traps like the forged use in the demo map to kick players off their mount.

Exploration isnt passive. If youre actively avoiding places and fights then youre not exploring.

So overall people might be exploring less because its easier to avoid fights and locations, this doesnt mean there is less exploration available.

In a way it becomes less necessary to explore, though that option is still available to you.

I personally am someone who kills stuff on the way regardless. In the demo I did exactly that, even with a mount. Even better was to instant mount, use jump skill and unmount again when jumping from one location to another.

One thing that does interest me is how easy it is to switch mounts.

I for one believe there there should have been mounts from day one. Yes portals may be faster. But for those that want to explore. Only mounts will do. Portals do not allow for exploration plain and simple.

Walking = exploration.

What is with people, that makes ‘mounting’ more exploration? We run unnatural fast in game (like a sprint speed, but as long for marathon). Be happy you and explore and are as fast as a real life horse. But it’s still not enough. Why do people have to associate horse-riding with exploring in a game. Why is seeing the nicely dye’d armor you made not good enough in a game? I seriously don’t get it. Mounts are mmo-maker indoctrination. Just like smartphone, We think we need/like them, but in reality we don’t.

Moving around is exploration. Walking is just one of the ways to explore.

World Completion for experienced players.

FrizzFreston.5290

…but make hearts a one time thing, When they’re done they are done account wide.

I have done 100% completion countless times since the game was released and every time the only thing that annoys me is doing the hearts again and again especially the tedious ones that don’t even look like they are moving.

I like the different looks a map has with hearts undone, it’s much more vivid than after you’ve solved the local problems. All the things that are interactive when you play a fresh character vanish when you do the hearts.

I agree though that hearts are the most boring things the game has to offer.

Yeh I think that. is one of the biggest issues with hearts for me. If you do them they are in completed state forever and the world loses some of the more ambience business.

Depending on the heart I dont mind redoing some of them, even if slightly simple and repetitive. So the latest redoable hearts are alright in that aspect.

The loss of possible interaction with the world is what bothers me. Though I wouldnt really like to grind them day after day because I have to, some of the heart tasks are very immersive imo. I really liked the refuge camp in the demo, while the one in the raptor village was more like.. why the hell am I doing this again?

Ofcourse, those that barely progress are very annoying.

In PoF, What Reward Does UnID Gear Replace?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: FrizzFreston.5290

FrizzFreston.5290

I bet there will be infinite UnID kit in itemshop.

that’s the most valid reason for introducing it. monitization.

The question isn’t why Anet is introducing UnID Gear. The question is what is the player losing as a result.

Standard green and blue drops I guess? In HoT they were in championlike bags instead.

They are now partially hidden behind a choice of lower tier material through salvage or Identifying them with a cost to get the blue and greens and rares with an addition of unique skins that previously would be obtained through a currency grind.

The problem is that you are guessing and so is everyone else. I want to know for certain what reward UnID Gear is replacing. If it is replacing standard drops, we all know that it is possible to get Rares, Exotics, and even Precursors in standard drops. Are we losing those possibilities? Are those possibilities being hidden behind the new ADDED steps of first completing a heart and then taking the time and $ to ID the gear?

If so, this is a terrible idea.

Yeah its sort of a guess/deduction. You get unidentified gear from chests and as an event reward. Just like bags and those things in HoT. They dont completely take over standard drops. They are just a lootbag you can also salvage and need to go to a heart vendor for.

Instead of doing hearts for currency and having currency merchants you just do hearts to open your regular lootbags.

HoT is a success story. It has succeeded in dividing the community.

Some people love it and some people hate it…. Does anyone truly have the numbers on either side? Is there an official record???

Because of this division, I think Anet is going to be kitten ed if they do and kitten ed if they don’t going forward…… and that applies for either side

I already see posts claiming PoF has abandoned HoT while I also have seen other posts claiming it is too much like HoT……… kitten ed if they do kitten ed if they don’t

I think thats mostly a forum thing. The forums tend to be very black and white at times. People complain with alot of superlatives and over-exaggeration which in turn gets rebuked with similar counters.

Which might be why reddit is preferred by many. The extreme comments get up and downvoted and the value end up somewhere in the middle. And the more pressing matters get upvoted enough if its really an issue.

The price is indeed pretty steep. It shouldnt be that expensive for getting your reward.

The map currency in Dragon Stand is crystalline ore. You absolutely don’t have to run the meta to farm it casually or slowly. You only have to run the meta to farm it more quickly, in which case you can look at a timer one time, jot down the hours that it’s up and never have to look at that site again

As I’ve said often, it’s better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

There are many world bosses in legendary collections. If you want to do those collections, you have to get to those world bosses. The best way to do that is to use a timer site.

I just always look out for what can be improved upon. While there are many workarounds, even in this case, it’s just not an ideal situation.

If I look at the Dragon’s Stand meta, there’s many hindrances that CAN prevent players from enjoying the content in it’s fullest. Saying that players can just ignore the Dragon’s Stand meta completely sounds like insanity. That’s just looking the other way. If you don’t do the content, then there’s no issue at all! Great point… >_>

Well that’s the point, you don’t have to run Dragon Stand either, but if you want to run it, you have to look at a timer, like every other world boss. Or stand there and wait two hours, which might also work.

The reason I mentioned that I never really looked at a timer is, I thought obviously so, that I can ignore worldbosses for the most part. Most rewards are still available even if I don’t play Worldbosses. However, it is very hard to ignore Dragon’s Stand if you want any reward that has remotely something to do with that map’s currency.

Not playing Dragon’s Stand has bigger consequences (Giving up on alot of rewards) than not playing Worldbosses.

To Tie this back to the topic title. I will be very surprised to see another Dragon’s Stand like map. (Without some proper fixes that would make it also nice to play for those who can’t easily follow the schedule. At least.)

To Tie this back to the Future of GW2. I will be very surprised to see a map like Dragon’s Stand that doesn’t address the issues people have with DS.

Long before HoT came out, people complained about the zerker meta forcing people into certain builds. And there have always been people who ignored it and played anyway. The game hasn’t changed.

Yes, it’s horrible to have to go to a timer site, except that this situation existed long before HoT. If you wanted to do world bosses, long before HoT launched, you needed to go to a timer site. If you wanted to do the great jungle wurm or the fire ele or the frozen maw, or the shadow behemoth, it’s been many years and you’ve had to look at a timer site all that time. That changed long before HoT.

I know it’s very fashionable to blame HoT for every ill this game has, but those things changed long long before HoT was released, or even announced. The game has changed, that’s true. Some might even say it evolved.

That’s not entirely true with timer sites to be honest. The HoT Metas and world bosses are a world apart, both in difficulty and style. I never needed a timer site for any of the world bosses. And with the mega server change, they did go on a schedule, which has been years, maybe needed to look at a timer more whenever I needed a specific boss, which is rearely to be honest. Also rewards for worldbosses are barely worth mentioning, while for some of the current metas that is exactly where you get alot of materials.

Dragon’s Stand is worse than the other metas though, most of the rewards are behind a successful run, however… the biggest problem is that it does not even start if you don’t have 15 people. I can’t comment on how difficult it is with 15 people or whichever, though I have no doubt it might as well be possible.

The problem in my opinion is that it’s another hurdle to even start to get the ball rolling. If you can start it and do the events, then you can get some loot from the events as well as a possibility for more people to actually start and attempt to finish the meta. More often than not it’s possible to finish the meta successfully.

It’s really annoying to stand there and realise you need to get 15 players together otherwise you can’t do anything in Dragon’s stand. And I think the game doesn’t need that 15 player minimum to protect people from “failure”. I rather try and fail than not being able to try at all.

You never needed a timer? So if you wanted to do the fire ele, you’d just rock up there and sit around for two hours until it spawned again.

World bosses have been on timers since the game got mega servers, which was well before HoT launched. If you want to do a world boss, a specific world boss, your options are to know what time it spawns, or to look it up on a timer…or to stand around and wait, perhaps hours, in a zone until it does.

Yup, I never really needed a timer. I did do say though that if I wanted a specific boss then I definitely did look at a timer, and maybe the last few years with the dailies. But I never really bothered running a specific world boss.

This mostly has to do with the reward scheme and the way I play though I guess. You can do all world bosses and the usual you get is some greens blues and a yellow. It never was worth chasing after. Plus if you do find a boss, it’s really easy to tag along as most of the time the next worldboss gets pointed out.

It does made it so I did less worldbosses, in core. And maybe made me think of the world boss event guild item stretching over to all the world bosses. Or something akin to that. Or doing pre events to then realise that the world boss is on a timer and feeling slightly disappointed I forgot that.

On top of them being no challenge no fun zerg 1-spam fest, which I generally avoid regardless.

id personally suggest perhaps changing the name to “bandit” like any other map in the entire game, or just go ahead and change those special skills to “chicken” “watermelon” and “child support”…

really, anet?

Because bandits are associated with the white mantle, and the troublemakers call themselves troublemakers. It’s indicated somewhere in the city that because of Palawa Joko and now the Forged they have gotten alot more compitition to recruit more troublemakers.

Knee jerk reaction without any knowledge is never good.

Some Thoughts On Bounties

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

FrizzFreston.5290

Just to note(according to my observations):

  • The bounty boards show all active bosses.
  • The ones with the seal off/red havent been picked up.
  • The ones with the seal lighting up/blue are picked up and possibly activated.
  • Bounty targets dont spawn unless a person who picked up a bounty is at the location.

I wouldnt mind a search mechanic like the treasure maps have. But I don’t like a global timer. I don’t run a commander tag 99% of the time because I don’t want the whole map to come to my location. If I pick up a bounty either alone or with a small party I go after that bounty with the people I sort of choose myself. If its going to show everyone that these are active it just becomes a zergfest, which I so hope to avoid. (Had a great time nearly killing (15%) the legendary Distraught Choya with just 4 people. (Im sure it would be done if my girlfriend didnt trigger it all by herself before anyone else was there and fighting the first 3 minutes all by our lonesome.))
If you want to organize a more zergy bounty kill the game does not need to force that and you should be able to do so yourself.

Major Concern- Mounts and "motion sickness"

I didn’t get any motion sickness either and loved the animations. It feels really awesome to me.

I cant comment what would need to change for people who do have a problem with it. I never ever have a problem with a slight feeling to a animation movement.

While some stretches are flat… I already fell dozens of times to my mounts death. This bit of map did feel very introductory to the raptor though. Even if I already found mastery blocks to the further jumps, and one that was skimmer only.

But hey, things should be more complicated with more mounts. This map is build with mostly just raptor in mind, clearly.

Appeal to stop making predictions

Well, you can also point out positive points as well as negative points of suggestions. That what I meant with “kind of”. Pointing out the flaws is just as necessary as taking complaints “seriously”. The discussions get quite polarized because people nitpick over word choice.

When someone says it’s “Literally impossible to do X” I never think, yeah it is literally impossible. And more, why does he think that it is and what might be the problems and how can those be solved. The discussion usually turns to why it isn’t impossible for at least the first few pages, rather than addressing possible problems.

Like this thread appeals to stop making predictions… But that’s not really realistic, nor productive even. But I do see that alot of the pointing out the weaknesses do make it feel alot of suggestions are dismissed because of that. I see this more as an appeal to think about what the good parts of the suggestions are, as well as the negative points.

Basically, be constructive with feedback on suggestions from players. (And not just the changes Arenanet makes)

I kind of agree with Faaris. But it’s not realistic to expect people to think too objectively about anything in this forum. People like the game and are generally biased to the game and any part of it.

It’s easier to rationalize that a part is too hard to change than to accept that it may not all be rose coloured.

I usually try to ignore the limitations of the systems and ArenaNet so I can think creatively about solutions to perceived problems that on the other hand I know are really hard to solve regardless of whether they actually affect me personally. (They rarely do)

I could joining in in pointing out the obvious that changes arent probable. I could even defend ArenaNets decisions every single time easily. But that feels too easy. Its much more interesting to think sceptical and challenge the system that is there. The game wont become better by suggesting the easy way, but challenging the existing conventions.

A timer site is just a site that shows you when any meta is about to start or end the major map event. You can then sort of adjust your schedule to whichever meta is up and go to those a few minutes ( or 15 minutes to be safe) before the meta starts, or restarts incase of dragon’s stand.

Yeah, it’s not ideal in my opinion either. But that is the only way you can actually do those meta events successfully every day.

What I was talking about was TacO at https://gw2taco.blogspot.de. Just a small tool that you can use an API key for if you so desire. And it is ofcourse third party, so it’s always at your own risk I suppose. But it is very handy in showing you all kinds of ingame information. Most of which I find a bit too much btw, so I mostly use it for the daynight timer and meta event timers, as well as raids to see which bosses I have done.

But yeah. Not ideal, but at least successful.

Hopefully this will prevent most guards from just 1,1,1ing.

Translated: “Oh no, most guardians aren’t doing what I want them to do!”

Nah, the actual translation is: " Wew, I hope people stop being kittened and actually play guardian like it was meant to be and not just spam 1 like mindless bots."

So basically you think we should play guardian a certain way. So you want us to play how you think we should play.

No Arenanet thinks you should play Guardian (or the rest of the game) a certain way, and there’s nothing you can do about it except complain about it on the forums.
