If you swap to Traveler Runes and use Giver weapons you can reach 100% Condition Duration. Under those circumstances you could then drop Potent Poison to get either Mug or Venomous Strength. You’d also be gaining a movement speed increase which helps you connect your CnDs.

There are a few other things I’d change, but I feel that’d stray too far from what you’re trying to achieve.

I don’t really want to watch the whole thing, but here’s some advice given your first fight with the Mesmer.

From the very start you waste your IS and almost reveal yourself with HS; luckily your opponent dodged so you remained in stealth and were able to Backstab.
Two much better options for opening up would have been to:

  • Watch your Stealth countdown and once it has hit 0, then HS to your opponent, that way while you’re traveling through the air you’ll de-stealth, hit your target, then immediately re-stealth and gain 2 initiative.
  • Keep your target unselected, move your camera above your character, and do 3 HS without breaking your previous Stealth to give yourself a better surprise advantage. They’ll have seen your BP, but they won’t know your location and when to dodge.

After the first couple seconds the Mesmer stealths and you BP > HS to get into stealth yourself, but for some reason you target his Berserker. Had you made contact and he was running clone death traits you would have inflicted negative effects on yourself. It’s always best to BP >HS without a target while keeping an eye on your surroundings as to not accidentally hit a clone/ambient/etc.

After that you used Backstab into his front which luckily crit, so not all was lost. What you did immediately after is what boggles my mind. You try to Steal to him, but instead Steal to his Berserker; Steal is something that should almost always be saved for landing your Backstabs from a distance. Using it immediately after landing a Backstab while you’re revealed is a complete waste.

You then frantically try to get back into Stealth by HS through the BP you laid some time ago, but your internal timing is off and you waste 3 initiative; try to keep better track of how long your BPs are down.

Seeing as you’re out in the open, you’re susceptible to attacks and decide to dodge a clone’s 1 dmg scepter attack. The only things you need to watch for from a Power Mesmer is the iLeap Clone and Phantasmal Berserker. Save your dodges for those if your opponent is attacking from stealth.

You BP > HS again, but gain 5 stacks of confusion in a addition to a few other conditions in process. The best course of action would have been to HS just once more in the opposite direction to gain some distance while your Shadow’s Embrace gets to cleansing it. Instead you try to Backstab three times, Heal, and drop BP all of which damaged you.

You make eight more mistakes after that, but it’s too much to write, and that’s just for the first fight.

I suggest you practice a bit more, then make videos for display.

I mean, you don’t need a master degree in rocket science to get to such a conclusion.

Stop getting mad each time you see someone talking bad about your beloved profession and start to play more than one profession and not being emotionally tied to a single one like a kid.

That would be nice if berserker stance had a 100% uptime and thief wasn’t able to disengage easily when berserker stance is on.

I mean, you don’t need a master degree in rocket science to get to such a conclusion.

For whoever does not understand the point, the skill can be used on a 20s cooldown (or even less if you already have it) in a blind field, which means that anything (literally anything) you throw at the thief during the channel as a warrior is wasted or even counter-productive.

Considering that all the CCs of warriors are on slow weapon sets, you have to land 2 hits in order to manage to hit the thief and interrupt the channel, assuming that the first hit will always miss because of the blind applied by the Black Powder projectile.
Other than that, the thief can just follow you while you’re blinded and deal massive free damage without you having a single chance to counter, because your attack are too slow to manage to hit him before the channel ends or you get a reasonable amount of damage to make the risk worth taking.

Lay some tarp behind your computer chair and set aside some cleaning supplies; I’m going to blow your mind.

If this post was made in the first two months after release you’d have a point. However, this is 2014, the Whirling Axe with evasion is long gone, and what’s left is one of the least useful stolen abilities; nothing says, “please kill me,” like a 3.5sec channeled attack on a glass cannon build.

Also, you sold yourself short on Warrior counters:

GS#5 in a different direction.
GS#4 through Thief, dealing damage to him while receiving none yourself.
Shield#4 interrupt.
Shield #5 block.
Sword#2 in a different direction.
Sword#F1 + evade.
Mace#3 interrupt.
Mace#F1 interrupt.
Hammer#4 interrupt.
Hammer#5 interrupt.
Hammer#F1 interrupt.
Rifle#5 interrupt.
Utility: Kick interrupt.
Utility: Bull’s Rush interrupt/in a different direction.
Utility: Stomp interrupt.
Utility: Fear Me interrupt.
Utility: Endure Pain receive no damage.
Trait: Defense/XI: Endure Pain receive no damage.

And lastly, the most OP counter of all:

W, A, S, D.

Seriously, just walk out of it.

Hi I just reached lvl 80 and wanted to make a new build for pve including dungeons and if could FotM.
0/30/30/0/10 (about traits I still have not decided yet)
Valkyrie Armors
Berserker Trinkets and weapons
S/P I find #5 skill very helpful. I keep slashing them while mob is constantly blinded.

How do you find this build? Any suggestions?

S/P doesn’t have any stealth capabilities; all 30 points in SA aren’t doing anything for you.

Just go 25/30/0/X/X; put the last 15 in Trickery if you want more damage or Acrobatics if you want more survivability.

You’ll find a build focused solely on Confusion won’t be very effective, you’ll need other condition types to really be able to put pressure on your opponents.

I swapped your weapons, trait allocation, food buffs, sigils, and stat choices; the core of the build is still the same, just needed a few enhancements.

With the weapon changes you gain better access to bleeds, as well as burning and poison. You do have less interrupts, however, because of the CD on Perplexity #6 you won’t really have any down time on its activation if you nail all your interrupts.

You no longer have Signet of Stamina; I instead replaced it with Balanced Stance, that way you’ll have a stun-break in your build. To help balance the loss of condition removal, I changed your food buff to -condi duration; poultry soup. Because of this, your own condition duration did experience a drop, however the way condition duration works 70% would not have been all the beneficial anyways. 50% duration will always round out your duration to a whole number, while 70% will quite often give you a number with a fraction. For instance, a 5.75 bleed; that .75 does not round it up to 6 like you’d normally think, it goes down to 5, thus making the condi-duration investment a waste.

Arms/III/Deep Cuts + 50% overall condi-duration gives you 100% duration on your bleeds; makes your Flurry much more potent coupled with the effects of Precise Strikes.

Disc/X/Mobile Strikes gives you great escape capabilities. You can get out of jam with Savage Leap + Bull’s Rush and have the lead on your pursuers. If you’re not as much of a big fan as Mobile Strikes as I am, you could take Signet Mastery instead and replace Balanced Stance with Dolyak Signet for the extra Toughness.

I changed your armor from Rabid over to Dire, as the Vitality gained is much more valuable than Precision for a condition Warrior. Under the circumstances we had an additional crit-proc condition like Engineers and Necros (for the time being; RIP Dhuumfire), it would be worth it, but we only have Precise Strikes.

I think it would be cool if it was 300hps passive, but then kinda like rangers troll Unguent you get600-750 HPS for 10 sec. 25 sec CD.

Numbers can be tweaked but i think its a cool idea.

Excuse me? I was showing permastealth on my P/D build, all it took was 1 quick trait and utility swap takes 5s.

Exactly. You were able to achieve perma-stealth with D/P using a completely ineffective build (0/0/30/10/30) for burst. You can’t attain perma-stealth with the standard glass 0/30/30/10/0 that you ran in your old PvP video.
Since December 10th you can only HS 3 times with 0/30/30/10/0 and are left with around 2-3 seconds downtime till you can repeat.

If you watched the older D/P vid more closely, you’d see I had 88% crit damage and close to 40% crit chance (without foods) so with foods up 98% crit damage. Also back then people had little clue what they were doing and a lot went full glass etc.

I calculated your stats by subtracting the points you had from CS in your old PvP video that you don’t have running 0/0/30/10/30 build in your example video. Under the circumstances you ran the build that allows for perma-stealth with your power gear, you would in fact have those stats.

From your 34sec perma-stealth example video I could tell what build and trait allocations you were using; you have absolutely awful survivability and damage output.

30pts into SA to get Shadow Rejuvenation, else really there’s no point in staying in stealth. Adept and Master slots are Infusion of Shadow and Patience respectively in order to upkeep initiative regen. That means no Shadow’s Embrace, so you have awful condi-removal; Shadow Step isn’t reliable on a 50sec CD. You could run Lyssa runes to give you a little bit more condi-removal, but I can see you’re running Centaur Runes because you gained Swiftness on Withdraw.

Speaking of Withdraw, you also gained Vigor and initiative on use, so that fills in the rest of the points with 10pts in Acro and 30pts in Trickery.

In your other video I watched the first couple seconds to see your gear choice. Using that gear with the build for perma-stealthing you have:

2,943 Attack
22% Crit Chance
58% Crit Damage

if they were to add to smoke vent, i’d much rather it be a blast finisher than a smoke field. it would be like the thief’s blinding powder (which is a blast finisher) but without the stealth.

Another non-damaging blast finisher would be awesome. Often times when it starts getting dicey and I need to combo field Smoke Bomb to get some relief, Healing Turret is currently the only option if I got people stacked on me.

tripwire you suggested has the same effect – now its kd for 3 sec which cannot move

Tripwire only works once on a single target. Using any kind of stunbreak will get you out of this.

Line of Warding stops everything from crossing that doesn’t have stability/invuln for 5 seconds. Stunbreaks that don’t teleport/apply stability will not allow you to cross the line.

Leg Specialist used to have no ICD. When sword was reworked they added an ICD. For a few days after the trait rework in October(?) the ICD was removed by mistake.

Useless Utilities

I was playing around with a build creator a few days ago and took to evaluating and reconstructing all of our rather unused/lackluster utilities.


Venoms
Passive Mechanic: 10% chance to proc active effect at half duration on hit; 5 sec global CD.

  • IE: Skale Venom: Torment 2.5 sec / Vulnerability 5sec

Ice Drake Venom: Scrapped, replaced with Fire Ant Venom: Next four attacks apply 5sec of burning.


Traps
Tripwire: Upon being triggered the tripwire appears and cannot be crossed for 5sec; basically a copypasta of Line of Warding.
Needle Trap: After initial effect activates, for the next 10 seconds targets that enter the radius of the trap receive 6sec Cripple & 6sec Posion.
Ambush Trap: Upon triggering, spawned Thief gives nearby allies 10 seconds of Fury.
Shadow Trap: Now functions as a single use one way portal for the user only. Range reduced to 2,500. Cast time on destroy/activate removed. Updated trap visual to the likeness of Smoke Screen so it can be seen easier; can only be seen by user. Utility icon changes to the Locked Skill when you’re out of range; let’s be honest, no one notices the teeny tiny red bar at the bottom in the heat of the moment.


Tricks
Haste: Applies Fury and 5 stacks of Might for 6 seconds. Remove Endurance loss on activation and instead user receives 100% reduced Endurance for 10 seconds.
Roll for Initiative: CD reduced to 45 seconds. (I feel like for in order for it to be able to compete with Shadowstep it needs to have a lower CD.)
Scorpion Wire: Well, obviously for starters make the skill more reliable; increase the speed, rework its pathing, something to make it work how it was intended. Once the core skill is in line, after the target has been pulled they become immobilized for 3 seconds.


Don’t let the numbers make any of my suggestions appear OP should they do so, just take it for its core mechanic and apply whatever numbers you feel are balanced.

I’m just gonna go out on a limb here and assume you’re referring to experiences on your Thief since they have garbage Stability.

No i don’t.
I’m referring to my experience in group fights. Where you actually have to face a melee train made of hammer warriors supported by backline necros that fear you, coupled with some staff eles with static field.
Everything put inside a messy explosion of colorful light effects.

“No you don’t”… have garbage Stability on your Thief? Did you maybe mean, “No I’m not [referring to experiences on my Thief]?” In which case you failed to tell me which class you’re playing. That leaves the other class in your Signature up for usage, which in that case means, 18 seconds of group stability. Seeing as you’re surrounding yourself with allies so your individual mistakes aren’t as obvious, just grab a few more Guardians and chain group Stability while 1-spamming Staff like a true king of the zerg.

Bountiful Thief, Vigorous Recovery, Feline Grace, Roll for Initiative, Signet of Agility, Withdraw, Sigil of Energy, Flanking Strike, Disability Shot, and lolDeath Blossom.

nice build … so 35 trait points are gone (20 in condition) where to put others? you may go for condition and you bring a sigil that gives you precision…
Roll for initiative has a 60s cooldown
Bountiful Theft + Vigorous recovery are going to be nerfed
And you are carrying 3 weapon sets … wow.

I assumed you didn’t know all the dodging capabilities of a Thief considering you’re the type of person who complains on the forums about other classes. Anyways, I would have thought it was obvious I was listing them all for the sake of picking and choosing a few, not all of them. So, what is your Thief build, and please don’t say P/P Zerker because that’ll make this thread that much funnier.

I’m just gonna go out on a limb here and assume you’re referring to experiences on your Thief since they have garbage Stability.

CD on stunbreaker >> CD on CC

Infiltrator’s Return.

Dodges are limited and become useless if 1 CC hits you

Bountiful Thief, Vigorous Recovery, Feline Grace, Roll for Initiative, Signet of Agility, Withdraw, Sigil of Energy, Flanking Strike, Disability Shot, and lolDeath Blossom.

Then there’s that whole completely shutting down their build with just Black Powder, but that’s not really important.

You kinda forgot the necro in your post. Please inform the black ping pong ball users out there how exactly to avoid chain CC’s when we have no blocks/evades/vigor or easily accessible stability. Not to mention no way whatsoever of disengaging from a fight.

Direct counters to CCs? No, not really. Though they do have an overwhelming and unrivaled condi-pressure to ensure the threat never reaches them. If that seems to fail, they’ve got a metric f@#k-ton of EHP for back up.

While also available to everyone else, -40% stun duration & +70 Toughness or -20% damage while disabled & -20% Condi Duration food.

Stability, Stunbreaks, and Saffron Bread/Lotus Root.

not every class has easy access to stability
stunbreaks usually have long CD, CCs are spammable though
food can’t be used in pvp yet mechanics still apply

Those that are lacking Stability have other means to negating CCs.

Thieves have a plethora of blinds, evades, stealths and shadowsteps (some only being pseudo-stunbreaks).

Mesmers have stealth, clones, and teleporting stunbreaks. Though not a stunbreak, Phase Retreat on a 10sec CD.

Engineers have blind, stealth, two (three technically, but it’s a racial TB skill) channeled blocks, Protection Injection, Stabilized Armor, and at the moment a boatload of vigor.

Honestly, I would rather prefer a Knockdown or Launch to cover for the root on 100 blades and the slow autoattack speed.

Likewise.

I always thought it would have been nice to have a skill like this (shown at 0:17) to keep people still at least for just a little while to get most of 100b off.

I have a hard time believing Infiltrator’s Strike that can be used once every 15 seconds (due to shadow return) as gap closer is faster than Shadow Shot and Heartseeker in a chasing scenario .

How to combat warriors with stability?

If they’re using that age old combo with the build you’re using you’ll just have to watch for the initial Bull’s Rush and Toolkit#4/dodge it. Doing so will also likely get you out of their Frenzied Hundred Blades as the combo is done all rather quickly and is easily messed up.

After getting out of the initial burst, dodge/Toolkit#4 to negate the Frenzied Whirlwind Attack, as because the animation is sped up it travels less distance causing every hit to land; it’s about the equivalent of getting hit with it while pressed up against a wall – it hurts, a lot.

In that time their Stability/Berserker’s Stance should be coming off, so move around/use your other dodge then switch to the offensive and lay in the hurt.

It always sounds great written up, but situations vary, so adjust accordingly.

…it’s entertaining to work towards and create a legendary or a fully decked out character. The process of making those things is the fun part…

Assuming you actively played three characters like myself, would your sentiments be the same if you needed 9-12+ weapons to outfit them?

60 Seconds Of Poison

Back when I ran P/D about a year ago I would always try to open up with:

Choking Gas + Steal (Serpent’s Touch) + Cloak and Dagger + Spider Venom + Sneak Attack (5x Projectile Finisher Poison).

I recall it stacking up to a little more than a minute.

  • Sigil of Impact: Tiers 2 and 3 will now only function if the target is knocked down or stunned, instead of always applying extra damage.

If you were using one of these like myself, then yes, you did experience a drop in damage output.

Unlike most other ascended items, ascended back pieces are around double the stats of their exotic counterparts. That’s why it might be worth it.

Guild Assassin’s Backpack + Exquisite Ruby Jewel:
47 Power
31 Precision
4% Crit Damage

Prototype Fractal Capacitor + Ascension:
54 Power
35 Precision
5% Crit Damage

Who told you they had double the stats?
