I haven’t been too impressed with what I’ve seen so far regarding role-play. The setting itself is brilliant, so it’s a real shame that most of it is ignored in favour of most role-players lingering around cities and talking about stuff instead of doing it. Of course, there’s the odd event here and there but you’re lucky to see one that doesn’t just invite anyone and everyone to participate to fuel some sort of warped popularity contest.
Well, Arena Net did imply that they wanted to aim for monthly content updates. I suspect we’ll see a batch of bug fixes since things are still understandably being smoothed out. I’d quite like to see a new dungeon or mini-game, though!
If you’re rolling with a glass cannon build, then you’re going to be torn apart by pretty much any class. You need to counter such attacks by dodging or just generally be more aware of your surroundings.
…you can already get a class to level 2 and then jump right into structured PvP with all abilities and traits unlocked. That’s more than enough already.
…why do people insist on making suggestions regarding core game mechanics? It should be pretty obvious that this late in development that there’s not going to be a major overhaul of class mechanics to bring back the dreaded trinity system. I fear many people want every MMO to be WoW with better graphics.
Crafting. Does it feel like they forgot about removing grind?

Crafting is only ‘grindy’ if you don’t embrace discovery. Admittedly, that aspect of crafting should be explained a lot better – perhaps with some sort of tutorial to give players the general idea of what they should be doing.
Uh, no…you don’t need to physically be in water or in a tight space to be terrified of water or tight spaces. Way to shoot down reasonable points, eh? Confronting your fears or indulging in therapy is going to do much more good than hiding from them.
(edited by Garenthal.1480)
Not to sound harsh or anything, but I really don’t think time, money and resources should be spent on making a game fit around people’s phobias. My advice would be to invest in some therapy instead. It’ll probably do the afflicted a world of good. I’m not good with heights and jumping puzzles make me nervous, but I recognise and accept that they’re part of the game and I wouldn’t want them changed. I’ve actually overcome my fear of heights slightly thanks to this game!
Trahearne: I personally find him to be probably worst character. :SPOILERS:
Posted by: Garenthal.1480
After playing through the Order of Whispers portion of my personal story, I have to say I found far more depth in the likes of Tybalt than I did in Trehearne. I despised Tybalt at first, then I came to like him. Why is that, you might ask? He had a lot of character development, even from the flavour dialogue after you’re done with his associated missions.
I also liked Demmi Beetlestone and Benn Tenstrikes. Both minor but very well done characters, so in the future can we at least see these sort of characters used in place of Trehearne? Please?
I can see where Arena Net were going with him, but too much is left unexplained. He’s meant to be a scholar, but can easily take on swarms of enemies right off the bat and…has friends and contacts in each of the three main orders in Tyria. Again, that is something left largely unexplained.

Though please allow us to report extreme abuse of such channels. One of the key issues I’ve had with them in other MMO’s is that all too often they were considered to be player moderated, which in turn led to nasty and spiteful cliques popping up from time to time.
Variety for the sake of variety can be a terrible thing. Arena Net have done an excellent job at creating a diverse world with numerous different species – each with their own distinct lore and background. Pretty much every enemy we face has a purpose and story, not to mention this is one of the few MMO’s that makes them feel like they’re a threat.
This is a lie. There are role-players present in WvW though they defend and attack as needed and only throw out a bit of flavour dialogue when things cool down a bit. The only reason people are kicking up a fuss about it is because of the age old and incredibly childish ‘war’ between role-players and PvPers…despite the fact that most role-players readily take part in all aspects of the game on a competitive level.
They’re mostly a game mechanic with very few direct references. What few references exist are obscure at best. Personally speaking, I’d consider them to be a handy game mechanic and little else – Logan didn’t exactly rush to use a waypoint when he needed to save Queen Jennah and then return in time to save Snaff as well.
Transferring to the enemy server to spy, prevent use of siege equipment, etc.
in WvW
Posted by: Garenthal.1480
It’s an issue that will vanish as soon as the period of free transfers is over. I’d suggest people just grin and bear it for not, since it’s unlikely to be common once transfers cost gems.
You’re overreacting. There’s plenty of other threats throughout Tyria that are shown in GW2. Or are you conveniently ignoring the likes of bandits, centaur, corrupt politicians, destroyers, harpies, trolls and all the rest of them?
I commend Arena Net on having such a brilliant variety of enemies, especially since they succeed at highlighting how each is a threat instead of making them seem incompetent as many other MMO’s do.
It’s something I’d definitely love to see, especially as a role-player.
I agree OP, Ive used the sliders, and Ill say it definitly helped a lot, but I still keep thinking I look too much like an effeminate elf, especially when Im standing next to a norn >.<
Well doesn’t anyone look like a little effeminate when standing next to a Norn?
Well, anyone but Clint Eastwood that is.
Uh, no…not really. Humans have realistic proportions, the norn just border on comical…especially considering that many of their faces have some of the issues people are complaining about with some of the human faces.
If your idea of farming gold is to farm random mobs and vendor everything you’re doing it wrong, lvl 34 or not
This. GW2 isn’t like other MMO’s when it comes to farming. You’re not meant to mindlessly kill the same group of enemies over and over again, you’re meant to alternate between different activities and earn cash, karma and experience that way.
I’m really enjoying the game and I’ve a handful of friends (both new and old) who feel the same way. Let’s not beat around the bush here, since the thread title is very valid. A lot of people seem to be demanding that core game mechanics change to fit what they want in a MMO. If people turn around and counter their points, they tend to get very vocal and nasty, spewing their bile across numerous threads and ranting about how GW2 is supposedly going to die.
It’s an illogical mindset that has unfortunately been common for as long as MMO’s have become mainstream. It’s not the genre for many people, yet they insist on jumping into it.
I’ve seen on Reddit that they also put an anti-farming system for events, to a point of getting only this kind of reward: http://i47.tinypic.com/2ic331u.jpg
for only walking around in a zone doing popping events.Of course, you can alternate between path in dungeons, but in PVE it gets harder and punishing for only doing Events.
Such a system is sorely needed, especially since it will discourage players from standing around in the same spot or zone for hours on end doing the same thing over and over again.
A lot more players need to realise it’s pretty easy to make money, gold and karma in this game if they alternate between a handful of activities and locations.
This is difficult to view as anything other than yet another knee-jerk reaction from an entitled player. If such a minor change leads to you quit, then I’m not sure what to suggest aside from sticking to your words and departing. Making an angry rant thread disguised as feedback helps no one.
Then again, it’s also possible that some people are making these threads to deliberately make things seem worse than they actually are.
The allergy many people seem to have regarding stealth is very hypocritical when many of those same people insist on embracing other ‘tropes’ associated with other professions.
Thieves are meant to fight in a dirty manner and most of their abilities follow that theme. Though I worry that if we did get a more in-depth stealth system it would lead to adjustments elsewhere.
It’s just a shame that so many of the nay-sayers are the same people who aren’t likely to even play the class in question. Hopefully Arena Net take their thoughts with a hefty pinch of salt!
Trahearne: I personally find him to be probably worst character. :SPOILERS:
Posted by: Garenthal.1480
Is anyone else disappointed that Trahearne is the one to cleanse Orr? It’s meant to be of huge significance to humanity and yet it’s a sylvari who plays the biggest part in solving the problems in the region. Are we going to see a charr lead the campaign to take down Jormag? I certainly hope not, since ‘working together’ seems to be the new excuse to erode away much of the racial identity, flavour lore and tensions that exist.
The annoying thing is, it’s a really fun and intense mission. Yet a lot of that is eroded away by the frustration that many of the non-soldier classes have with the ridiculous swarms of enemies and how they rapidly they respawn.
Another thing I’ve noticed is that even a skilled player can wipe very easily on such missions whilst the soldier classes get a huge amount of legroom for mistakes. It’s a little silly at times and really makes me wonder about just how much was tested. It’s no secret that warriors and guardians are very popular classes and first choices for a great many players, so perhaps feedback was biased due to so many claiming such missions were ‘easy’ or ‘fine’ even though other classes can struggle due to how our mechanics work?
Some missions are easy, others are more difficult. It’s subjective to an extent but certain classes have a major advantage over others due to how some of their mechanics works. I know a lot of classes seem to get screwed over pretty badly whenever there’s a large group of enemies charging at them at the same time in a confined space.
I played through the personal story on a warrior first and foremost. I found it surprisingly easy, yet then I tried a different class and the difficulty went up quite a bit, largely because my warrior had a much higher resistance to damage even without toughness/vitality traits compared to my thief and mesmer. Not to mention, most warrior weapons hit everything in front of them whilst other classes find themselves limited quite heavily by single target abilities.
I believe we should be able to reset our character’s personal story. There’s plenty of people who made decisions they later came to regret or ended up going down a different path due to certain missions being bugged whilst they rushed to finish the personal story as soon as possible.
If some sort of character re-customisation option is added, that should allow us to change our personal story and background. After all, we’ll want to feel attached to the ‘new’ character in question and there’s plenty of people who don’t really want to restart everything from scratch. Particularly given how some of us have invested quite a bit of cash (both real and in-game) into our characters by this point.
The default healing skill for thieves is pretty useful and carries quite a bit of utility with it as well.
I’m surprised people are actually complaining about grinding when they were doing just that in the dungeons. There’s plenty of ways to earn money in this game, you just need to stop using tunnel vision and vary what you do.
OK so its been like what 3 week?
You are telling us that you are upset because you can not have the best of the best items in 3 weeks?
In an MMO?
Seriously? It was marketed as being different than other MMOs in exactly that sense.
That always seemed to be more along the lines of being that we pay a one time fee and then we can play the game whenever we want and within our own time without feeling obliged to log in to make the most of a subscription fee.
Ironically enough, people complain about ‘fanboys’ and ‘white knights’ and yet make thinly veiled passive aggressive posts. Both sides are as bad as each other in my eyes. If someone violates the terms of service, report that individual and then move on.
As for the topic at hand? Most of the threads involving feedback, constructive or otherwise revolve mostly around personal opinions. What one player may hate may really appeal to someone else and vice versa.
If you’re that unhappy with the game, leave. Ranting and stirring up conspiracy theories is not going to benefit anyone.
OR we could make threads and discuss it. We already know Anet listens to their customers so why not now?
Yeah, people are free to discuss things within the boundaries of the terms of service.
^ fanboy example. Perfect.
Hardly. For the record, the knee jerk reaction of ‘fanboy’ does nothing to support an argument. People need to stop acting as if it’s the devil’s work if a game offers something that cannot be accomplished in a few days.
A game doesn’t need to be a second job, though at the same time nor does it need to make anything and everything available for everyone. If you really want a particular set, learn to invest.
If you’re that unhappy with the game, leave. Ranting and stirring up conspiracy theories is not going to benefit anyone.
Well be happy about it!
At least you guys enjoyed 1-50
My personal story started to be a disappointment as soon as I saw queen Jennah the first time. I don’t mind a linear storyline, as long as I am a unimportant bystander all along OR I can chose which characters my PC likes and which not.So when I saw my character liking Queen Jennah’s boots (She is the character I hate the most in this game), I just stopped caring about the story at all and abused the “Skip Dialogue” button.
It may be the personal story of my character, but when you disagree with your character, the story is just annoying.
I’d rather be Joffrey from “Game of Thrones” than my Guild Wars 2 Character. lol
Heh, yeah. It’s a shame – there’s so much political intrigue at play throughout Kryta and yet our characters are forced and expected to support Queen Jennah…even if they grew up on the streets and no doubt view the rich with contempt.
I enjoyed the early stuff a lot, mostly because it felt personal without making my character get too much glory.

I’m not sure if it’s a bug or the tools themselves are just misleading, but they don’t seem to have a very high chance of gathering successfully. It’s best to rely on the orichalcum tools as far as I’m concerned.
I know plenty of patient people who find the vast majority of generic Youtube ‘celebrities’ grating, especially when they’re bringing nothing new to the table. This is a board for lore discussion. I don’t see how linking someone’s Youtube channel is meant to encourage that, especially when the OP doesn’t even explain or elaborate on things beyond a generic ‘he brings up good points’.
(edited by Garenthal.1480)
It’s not hard to refrain from bad language. You agreed to the terms and conditions when you created your account. There’s plenty of places in the real world where you would be punished for swearing openly, so why do people insist on pretending as if it’s unfair or unrealistic for the same rules and regulations to exist online?
I certainly don’t want to see people dropping the ‘f-bomb’ in every other sentence. Not because it offends me, but because…it isn’t needed. There’s plenty of ways to communicate without it.
human - noble - 1. quest (level 3) - got swarmed by bandits + insane spawns
Posted by: Garenthal.1480
The issue is likely on your end, since that mission isn’t too difficult if you’re playing efficiently. Are you dodging and picking off one target at a time? Are you using the line of sight to your advantage?
It sounds like the game just isn’t for you and you’re taking out your anger by ranting.
It’s definitely a mixed bag. There’s a lot I like in the personal story, particularly the political intrigue going on behind the scenes for humans. With that said, I’m a little disappointed that Tybalt was forced on me. Some people like him, though why is such an incompetent comic relief character associated with what is meant to be a pretty serious, ruthless and efficient organisation?
I’ll admit, he was entertaining at first. Then I realised I was stuck with him for pretty much every Order of Whispers mission, which automatically gave them a much more light-hearted theme than I would have liked.
Worse yet, my character instantly buddies up with him. At least with Forgal there’s a lot of initial tension before his frigid exterior thaws a bit. As a role-player and lore fan, I’d love to see more options to play someone who isn’t so…well, nice all the time.
(edited by Garenthal.1480)
They’re fine in moderation, though I do hope the overall serious/heroic theme persists in the future. One of my main complaints regarding a certain other MMO was that it went too overboard with puns and ‘funny’ NPC’s.
I think this would be difficult to implement with your Personal Story. If they could add it at all, it would probably have to be at Level 80 when your Personal Story has ended.
Nah, that’d probably discourage a lot of people of changing their race. I’m sure it wouldn’t be too difficult to ‘reset’ the personal story so that once you purchase a race change, you go through the other race’s personal story after choosing your new character’s background.
They’re a luxury, not a necessity. You can easily make the money back from using a waypoint by participating in a dynamic event or two.
PvP shouldn’t be about ego stroking or exclusivity, it should be about good sportsmanship and fun.
I use both, though I’ve picked up the trait that allows me to use caltrops automatically each time I dodge. I find them both to be very useful, I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve been a thorn in the enemy’s side in PvP!
Uh, the professions are already very varied. There’s really no need for a core game mechanic to change just to cater to what is likely to be a very tiny minority of players who can’t bring themselves to invest in an alt.
I’d rather not see something like this implemented. It encourages elitism and not the good kind of elitism but the misguided notion that ‘better gear’ makes a better player…which couldn’t be further from the truth in a game such as this.
You could always invest in role-playing. I believe both Piken Square and Tarnished Coast have a pretty decent population of role-players, which certainly helps make cities and outposts feel even more alive than they do already.
There’s also usually a pretty decent portion of players hanging around the crafting stations in major cities, so you could always try striking up conversations with them.
I believe that the ‘Commander’ status should remain, though anyone caught abusing it should have it stripped from them. They can get it again, though only if they pay the hundred gold it takes to purchase it.
Possibly a good compromise? I don’t know, I’d like to see it remain even if some people abuse it. If Arena Net took a hard stance on dealing with reports of ‘Commanders’ abusing their perceived status, it’d probably work a bit better. From what I gather, these players are meant to purchase it for the sake of helping rather than hindering their community, after all.
The ‘Clint Eastwood’ face is overrated. It’s hardly the only masculine face available for human men. If you can’t be bothered to play around with the sliders then you’re not going to get very far no matter which race you decide to play.
