The utilities are probably a little outdated, I made that link awhile ago. Do whatever, but the point stands. Shroud is love, Shroud is life.
Frontline Reaper
There’s no reason you can’t run with the frontline. You might not be the frontline, but you can certainly wreak havoc in engagements. The premise is to stay in Shroud as much as possible and Dig Graves when safe.
If you’re a rupter mes with CI, Vigilant armor is a beautiful thing.
Sure, some people want it nerfed into the ground but you can’t honestly say this is balanced. Doubling up on traps? Free instagibs? Come on guys that’s not balance.
Instagibs don’t exist and doubling up on traps are a mechanic of Traps themselves and not unique to Dragonhunter. In fact, a Thief can technically quad up on Needle Trap. That’s a whole lotta Immobilize, Bleeding, vuln, and poison.
People need to calm down first of all, because good decisions don’t come from getting worked up. This is something new people will have to learn to deal with. Every profession has some crazy stuff they can pull out now, and people need some time to learn what it is.
That would be the reason for Shattered Aegis and if you take Honor, Pure of Heart. You make Aegis worth being broken for damage and/or healing (unrelated, but if y’all haven’t taken SA and CD to Teq before, it’s hilarious).
I’d agree that for the purposes of what you want to do, Honor would be better than Valor. However for personal tanking, Valor and Honor would be ideal. Zeal vs DH would be up in the air, edge to Zeal I think. Guardians do make fantastic raid tanks.
Doing that JI+ToF+WW combo also costs 2 utility skills and a weapon skill. That’s a pretty high cost for maybe good effect. It’s certainly more effective on the unprepared.
I actually developed a Conjure/Tempest build yesterday. I can’t test it out, but it certainly looks exciting.
Conjure Boon Bruiser
Just make sure to use Wanderer armor instead of Soldier for the 100% boon duration. You’ve got immunity to conditions above 90%, and essentially permanent protection and high uptime on Magnetic Aura under 90%. Tons of Fire Shield for might, you can get extremely high power while being difficult to kill.
It now functions exactly like Revenant Axe 5, which is likely the intended functionality from conception
It feels like you’re probably not using all the tools you could be, probably for some arbitrary reason.
Also hyperbole
Your name is Hubris
And yet…
1) if you limit yourself and you’re unhappy, it’s your own fault
2) you can get plenty of damage out of Mace/Axe
The thread piqued some interest, so I came up with two options. The spite build stacks might and vuln and lends itself better to solo play. The curses build relies on allies for might and vuln and goes for more damage from a variety of conditions.
Keep in mind I might’ve overlooked some things. The armor stats are purely to represent a mix of Viper’s and Sinister, just so that is a bit easier to look at potential damage outputs through the editor compared to no stats.
It sounds like it’s mapped to the terrain with the hotbox staying at whatever single plane the center is at. They probably just need to create an actual hotbox that goes above and below the center point a few units.
There’s also the one Halloween shoulder for the skulls
Swiftness is still king over +25%. As long as you can maintain 75% uptime you’ll beat any form of passive movement. Perhaps we should better utilize the tools we have. If they still aren’t sufficient, perhaps we could ask for better access then.
You could try something like this Mace/LB bruiser as a starting point. I tried to keep it cheap. You’ve got good damage and enough defensive stats plus healing sources to be able to tank for allies.
In pvp you could try something similar Mace/LB bunker. You can become extremely resilient against conditions. Replace the Soldiers amulet with Wanderers to get some delicious boon duration. Depending on other needs, Cleric or Crusader amulet might still be better. Staff might still be a better option over LB. Also consider changing Trooper runes with Mercy or any of the Healing Power runes as needed. Zeal might also be replaced with Valor for more traditional bunkeriness. There’s a lot of options with the pvp build.
You mean wvw where the world is literally dripping in Swiftness? Being done Swiftness yourself or get some friends. This is a social game after all
Revenants have a medium health pool
The only two classes that need to be normalized are engineer or ranger. One of them needs a high health pool instead of both having medium.
Well, assuming Shadow Arts is mandatory is your first mistake. Venoms can be useful for sure, but they aren’t necessary by any means.
The cooldown reduction is only for swords, but the crit chance is for all 1h weapons.
Regardless, I prefer Carrion Staff with Supreme Justice and Permeating Wrath for ultimate burn application.
Another idea you could use for inspiration DB spam
It might be better to use Trailblazer instead of Carrion, but those are each good options. Auto attack when you cc an opponent, otherwise dodge and DB all over the place. Mad King Runes summon birds that attack 16 times, which when combined with SoM is essentially a heal skill. Otherwise swap SoM with Withdraw and MK runes with Trapper.

Something big that will help you with pve damage is might stacking. Take the alchemy line with elixers for one big source of Might, or take Flamethrower, Juggernaut in Firearms, and Mass Momentum in Scrapper as another source. Don’t neglect Might duration runes and Sigils of Strength either.
Can someone explain to me what does “Impact” mean?
to break something to pieces.
That’s not what it means. I know you’re on the internet so I know you have access to Dictionary. com
There are two very simple trait changes that could significantly affect builds, Hammer in particular.
Swap Glacial Heart with Retaliatory Subconscious. Change RS functionality to “Activate Virtue of Courage on [cc effect]”. GH now competes with more interesting traits and won’t compete with AR. VoC also gets itself a master trait. Without Indomitable Courage, you still get the Aegis, Retal, and now Prot, bit with IC you get the Stability and Stun Break.
They should also swap Focus Mastery and Stalwart Defender, but that’s a different discussion.
Do you ever have anything positive to say on the forums? I read your posts all over the place, and I can say that I wholeheartedly disagree with every single one of them.
Nike is actually one of the more positive and optimistic people in the forums. I don’t know what definition of positivity you use, but you must be living in Stone Tower Temple. Not only do classes have intentionally designed weaknesses and shortcomings, but they also have unique ways to overcome those challenges. Just look at Revenants and condition clear. It’s almost non-existent and yet there have a line that gives them copious amounts of Resistance to overcome that weakness. I’ve already posted how we can use Swiftness to overcome that movement speed difference, I’ll go dig it up if needed.
Thanks for the compliment. I always strive to match my level of effort with that of the posts in quoting.
really?? want to give them more skills??
Stealth isn’t a skill, nor is it Skill.
I have a build OP might like. Heartseeker spam
So i herd thief like to Heartseeker.
I make build for you so u can Heartseeker and win game.
Have fun play gaem.
So then tell us O great Ragion, in your infinite wisdom to which we cannot even hope to attain, how you would beat a Dragonhunter, or are they so intimidating and powerful you either run away or die every time?
I too love anecdotes
The conditions counted because of Bolstered Anguish which gives +3% damage per condition on you.
Just a very quick overview:
Weak to conditions unless you take Hunters Fortification and blocks.
Power damage is strong from traps and longbow
Burn application is relatively weak unless you take advantage of multi-hit skills and VoJ
Counters:
Conceptually, Dragonhunters are a point defense specialization. Forcing them to leave their protected area is huge in swinging a fight in your favor.
Strong ranged damage (especially conditions) with projectile reflects. Revenant Hammer comes to mind, ranged ele with lots of magnetic Aura too. If you don’t trigger their traps, they aren’t nearly as threatening. This doesn’t take into account combining traps and mediations (JI onto you and drop traps).
Dragonhunter also brings some cc, so stability is helpful.
That should cover much of whats popular currently. Creative people will likely create summer new challenges to work around.
(plus half of our skills are not what tooltips says)
That’s because most of those numbers are rounded and none of them take aftercast, ect into account. Just like how damage values use an armor rating of 2600. Not everything has 2600 armor.
That would make them not traps.
There is a cost to using traps, and this is one of those costs. Use better placement to ensure use, or use a different skill. Every skill had its pros and cons
“Cheese builds” and “profession respect” are figments of your imaginations and devalues your opinions.
If that is true, shouldn’t that be looked into? Or is it working as intended?
No, it shouldn’t. If you notice, every skill had a cast time in multiples of 1/4 second. Between aftercast and other factors, even a skill that is intended to have a .8 second cast time will be listed as 3/4. Regardless of that rule of thumb, the skill is balanced around it’s actual cast time in conjunction with projectile speed, recharge, and other factors.
…unless you are playing a high healing power build to play as a healer alongside Druids. It’s worth mentioning that a healing DH is definitely viable…
Also, Aegis spam with Pure of Heart. 2xFoF is great for spreading around 2.5k ally heals in addition to the block.
.05 seconds is significant to you?
Here’s sundering you could try KD thief
I added Bandit’s Defense for a faster stun break and knockdown. SB was replaced with S/P for another cc on stealth, some condi removal and mobility, but mainly for access to OH Pistol (could also work with P/P for a ranged option). With Black Powder and Bound, you have an on demand stealth option outside of Traps. You also get extra damage after Bound, which opens up BP > Bound > weapon swap > Hook > Vault for heavy damage. Head Shot also allows you to poke at their stability and any auto-stun break traits they might have for little cost (compared to wasting a knockdown for it).
No one ever posted any complaints in bwe1 or 2. In fact, the issue was never brought up until bwe3. Then, the base effects were increased for Banish Enchantment and the Heal, but their maximums and everything else actually got nerfed badly.
Now we have an undertuned Mallyx and a trait line with an identity crisis.
Just because you personally didn’t see it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. There are many more ways to get feedback than just the forums.
Mallyx still had some things that benefit from having conditions on you, like the Heal, and the extra damage trait. However, you aren’t relying on them for effect nearly so much as you were when you got multiple stacks of confusion or torment. Conditions are still something you’ll want to cleanse as a Revenant (and so allies cleaning you won’t hurt your effectiveness). Mallyx just makes them less threatening. Mallyx still offers some pretty strong options, like boon removal and condition application, instead of relying on conditions to make your entire build effective,
Condi specs are generally expected to stick to 1vX anyway, not group fights, because people spam AoE condi removal, that’s just how the game is.
I don’t think you’ve understood my post because your response doesn’t flow logically.
Group Cleansing did make it awkward, and people did complain about it.
Revenant is naturally weak in condition removal. Mallyx is still strong with more conditions, but now you can load up on Resistance to keep conditions on you while ignoring their effects. However, a significant part of your damage output (stacks of confusion and torment among other things) won’t be affected by allies trying to do what they understand as helping literally everyone besides Mallyx Revs.
“it’s not that bad” huh? here we go again. Just because you personally don’t feel much a difference, it doesn’t mean it’s a step downward, and when it’s trending down, it will go down from here.
If we kept that attitude, Guardians would’ve been the worst class since Open Beta 1
You forgot the 4th line:
“It’s snowing on Mt. Fuji”
There’s actually a thread in the pvp forum complaining about deflecting shot being unblockable and a knockback.
But you can plan around it. You don’t have to fear which arrow is going to carry that knockback. Just like the traps, once you see Deflecting Shot, you can react to it. If you get hit by it before you can react, it’s either good play on the attacker or its the risk you take by being in that position.
Give Warriors a 4th trait line
Make fast hands baseline
Let Warriors have 30 adrenaline out of combat
Let me take stances and other utilities at the same time
Let me carry 3 Weapons at once
Do I fit in yet?
This isn’t really a question of whether it’s overpowered or not. It’s a video explaining the mechanics of Traps in conjunction with Heavy Light. We do this on the forums everyday, but now we see it in visual form.
I’ll agree, I think Heavy Light should be attached to probably Deflecting Shot. It’s just a better option from both the attacker and defender’s PoV.
Condistain
This is what I’ve got so far. The apothecary might stay, but the givers and Rabid will likely change to Trailblazer. Runes will also likely change, but I’m not sold on what options I want. Mace and Mallyx is there for damage and boon removal while Ventari and Staff are there for ally healing and personal sustain. Mix and match weapon/legend as needed.
RS should be the trait without an icd. Aegis +retal on every cc effect sounds like a proper trait to me.
and since it Peirces + can grant stability on a 4second cooldown , it ether needs a longer cooldown(6seconds) because of its Utilitiy the stability granted lasts 6seconds so it can carry over into the second trueshot making the DH have pretty much enough Stability to take any CC he likes after the first Trueshot.
True Shot doesn’t bring any utility. Since Heavy Light is on a 10s cd, you cannot line up multiple True Shots under stability nor can you take any amount of cc. It’s a single stack.
I think overall Dragonhunter is good, just need to tone the damage on traps down a bit (not into the ground just not able to take people out by themselves).
Traps are supposed to deal damage. What else are they supposed to do when you’ve sacrificed 4 of your 5 utility slots and 2 of your 3 traits to improve them?
for once guardian is in the top half of the tier list
Have you even played this game before?
