And I have about 50 abilities to use, only thing is that I can’t. There’s another game, which rhymes with “borecraft” that I have a lot of experience with and what I loved on my Priest is that I always had an enormous amount of tools at my disposal. I didn’t have to adjust to every battle, change my set of abilities after a fight to be able to travel more comfortably and so on.
I think you hit upon one of the key differences. In “borecraft” you don’t have to think; just fire off your optimal rotation and don’t stand in the fire. GW2 is more strategic. You need to go into battle having thought out what would be most effective beforehand. And be honest. Did you really use more than 15 abilities on any given fight?
For the new player and not one that has played the game since creation, wow has an overwhelming amount of endgame.
They have an overwhelming amount of “leveling” content, not endgame. Endgame is still running the same instance multiple times to get the best gear.
Because GW2 has just “some bugs”. TOR was released in a much more finished state than it, so was Rift.
But, TOR didn’t push the envelope….at all. Remember, the Bioware head dude said “not following the WoW formula would be foolish.” It’s easier to be in a finished state if you copy-paste and not include features common in other games. You must also not remember Rift’s first few months. Great game, yes, but go back and look at the first few patch notes. Very, very lengthy bug and balancing fixes. Not to mention a very severe security flaw.
Game that’s almost a decade old (WoW released Nov 2004) is bound to have more end-game content than one released a month ago.
Except it doesn’t. Unless they changed it up in MoP, endgame consisted of running the same instance hundreds of times for that “special” drop. Maybe pet battles are now endgame content, idk:)
A few comments. One, I have a human and a norn with red hair; not sure what you’re talking about with limited options on that color. Also, norn have tattoos. One feature of character customization that you didn’t mention is the dye system. I have yet to see two of the same character when you include this feature. Heck, I have yet to see two of the same character regardless! It’s definately not as robust as Aion, but overall I’m pretty happy with the options given so far.
Regarding dynamic events, I prefer them now as the population in zones has thinned out somewhat. Closer to launch they were just one big zerg and I’d be lucky to actually hit anything before the mobs died in a cloud of massive AOE. At least now I’m finding these events somewhat more challenging. I didn’t think the events scaled well with larger groups; or, if they did, didn’t scale quick enough to offset the power of the zerg.
WvWvW was divided into EU and USA to avoid time zone differences and to avoid whats on the screenshot. But no! Lets make Spanish language server and call it EU! I am not going even to mention that French servers has a lot of Canadians as well.
I don’t think this is correct. The servers are split due to location (Dallas for American servers; Frankfurt for EU servers) and language considerations, not time zone. Also, you do know that Canada is a bilingual (English and French) country, right?
I mean really how hard is it to create in game ladders for sPvP and WvW I don’t get it?
My guess is that it’s not really hard to do, but that they are deliberately taking time to ensure that major balancing and exploit squashing are mostly completed before implementing this feature.
figured. considering every new zone I went to I was doing the same exact thing over and over on repeat. I enjoyed GW1 but that was like 8 years ago… i hate to say it but with no progression, MMORPGs are a complete waste of time and it’s part of the reason why I can’t bring myself to level past 25 on my Warrior unless i knew that all my ridiculously hard work to 80 was worth something other then what I’ve already been doing a million times already
Honestly, this sounds like it’s not your kinda game then. If gear progression via raiding the same dungeon “a million times” is what you’re looking for, there are plenty of options out there.
OK, but let’s be realistic. Your traits largely define what skills you’ll use (or the other way, if you prefer). You aren’t going to take trait lines that benefit two-handed weapons and shouts and then use all signet skills and a dagger.
Now, I’m OK with all of that. I’m not complaining! But your description isn’t very reflective of the in-game situation and I wanted to respond to that.
I don’t disagree with you. The OP was referring to lack of choice and flavor, and I believe I responded appropriately with another viewpoint. My ranger plays longbow/axe/warhorn. I find there are plenty of desirable choices within the 5 trait lines that will compliment my playstyle. It’s not 100% freedom (ie. I wouldn’t pick up a GS trait), but there is certainly choice.
Truly, I’m expressing the way I feel things, which seems to bother you for some kind of unknown reason, Gilandrer.
So. I note you didn’t mention the part about class personality, which is, for me, the worst of all.
What, to me, makes a class’ personality in this game? Weapon skills. Most of them (except warrior, guardian and thief -though it’s arguable-) seem to be.. flavorless? I mean, engineer rifle VS warrior rifle, as an example, or ranger longbow, or thief P/P, what the hell? This doesn’t feel like they’re the skill they should have. Then, with all those misplaced weapon skills, which reach an astounding number of five per weapon (minus swapping) at level 3 max, what do I have left?
Five skill slots, minus one reserved for healing, and one for Elite.
So three skill slots, three choices to make among the number of skills unlockable. Which I feel, really, could have been higher, or at least all INTERESTING.
First, I’m not bothered by what you said. I was asking you to elaborate, and sharing my own thoughts. After all, this is a forum for discussion.
Second, you mention weapon skills and how they are “flavorless.” I truly don’t know what you mean by that. Even if different professions can use the same weapon, the skills are different. Weapon swapping gives you even more choices which you seem to want, yet apparently you don’t like this feature. What kind of “flavor” are you looking for?
Third, your example of skill slots is…well….wrong. You have at least 3 choices, if not more, for each of your healing and elite skills. You may not like the choices, but to say that you have none is false. If you don’t find them interesting, ok then, but what do you suggest?
The game needs to be played more like Skyrim and less like WoW. If you’re stuck in the mindset of “I have to get to max level to have fun” then you are doing it wrong.
Well, it’s the thing that’s going to make me give up the game pretty soon.
There’s no “feel” for classes, they lack personality. The fact that you’re restricted to such a few skills doesn’t help.
Care to elaborate? You have 10 skill slots and weapon swapping in combat, for a total of 15 skills at any point in time. On top of that, you can choose other weapon sets and select from dozens of utility / elite skills. You also have access to some special abilities (the “F” keys) plus your downed skills. Then there are 5 different trait lines to choose from for further customization. And, all of the above are unique for each class with the exception of some racial abilities. I don’t understand where you’re coming from.
This is a dumb post. Activision has literally nothing to do with Blizzard’s side of the operation. The merger was done by Blizzard’s parent company, Vivendi, to essentially rescue Activision from bankruptcy.
Kotick has zero say in anything Blizzard does, which is why you aren’t seeing a WoW expansion every 12 months like Call of Duty has.
Unless you are a high level executive at either Blizzard or Activision you have no way of knowing how these two companies operate. Calling one post dumb because it’s based on pure speculation and then you go and do the same is well…..you get the point right.
You could always buy the pirate outfit……yarrrrr!
OK, I’ll take the bait. THIS IS A VIDEO GAME. Please don’t even try to compare a 2 hour roll back in a video game, to football players and the superbowl. It is not like comparing apples to oranges
They are both games, both forms of entertainment, and both cost money to participate. They are more apples to apples than I think you are seeing.
So you do want the rollback after all. Lol, called you out and rightly so in the other thread.
Also this isn’t the superbowl, its a brand new videogame a few weeks into release. This is not real, it’s a videogame, not the superbowl. Your real world comparisons are irrelevant.
I don’t see how you are misinterpreting me in thinking I want a rollback. I am glad that you pointed out that the Superbowl is “real.” I got a chuckle out of that one.
So this is your example of being respectful:
Sorry guys, 30 mins is nothing. This really is a first world problem of epic proportions. Deal with it, move on, complaining isn’t going to fix it. Bugs happens, roll with it.
Demeaning the opinions of others is, well, rather disrespectful. Take your own advice then.
I accept it, life is full of disappointments. As such things go, this is so minor as to be almost unnoticable.
And I don’t like football, so what happens during the Superbowl is irrelevant.
Life is full of people who choose to live with disappointment. Others, like me, prefer to take an active approach in making things better. Also, analogies are a time-honored tradition in forum posting, lol.
People aren’t generally complaining to alert developers, they are complaining to have their 30 minutes recovered. Don’t give people that much credit please.
Either way, they are both legitimate reasons to speak up. If you personally don’t care, then why are you even posting in this thread, other than to tell people to stop posting in this thread?
Servers crashed last night, and apparently when they brought them back up some people lost info about what they did around the time of the crash. These things happen, it’s only a game it’s not like your employer “lost” your work records for the last week and claims he doesn’t have to give you a paycheck because he doesn’t know whether you were at work or not.
Ah the good ole “only a game” argument. So let’s say we’re in the Superbowl, team A scores the winning touchdown, but then the refs decide to rollback 30 minutes of play because they weren’t paying attention. That wouldn’t be outrageous at all, now would it. After all, it’s only a game, right?
complaining isn’t going to fix it.
Letting a company know when you are dissatisfied with part of their product is an effective means of getting them to fix it. Just because other players have higher standards than you, doesn’t mean it’s wrong to speak up.
I take it roll backs are a common thing in mmorpgs?
They happen from time to time, only when it’s completely necessary.
I have NEVER had this happen in any other game I’ve played (WoW, AoC, Eve, Aion, Rift, LoTRO, FFXIV) and so far this has happened twice to me in GW2. Their official response via Twitter is rather lame.
Oh you mean constructive like this:
Must be another one of those poor mistaken people who are muddling good games up with bad games (such as Guild Wars 2).
The human storyline as a noble is missing quite a few as well. I will try to take screenshots next time it comes up. It’s not one or two, but happens quite regularly.
World of Warcraft – Started in 2009 and still have a sub. Although open world anything is all but dead, I still love the dungeons and battlegrounds. It’s a well polished game with tons of content, and here I can still get my healer fix:)
Aion – about 9 months back in 2011. Another beautiful game, but ran like crap when you had more than a few people on the screen at the same time, which is what the Abyss battles consisted of. And, gear was king! If you didn’t have it, you died.
Rift – about 6 months after launch. Best development team out there. Always on the forums, and lightning fast updates and content expansions. However, I found WoW to be a better overall package.
SWTOR – maybe 3 months tops. I so looked forward to this game, and was a big letdown. The static world and lack of quality of life features killed it for me.
Also dabbled in AoC, Eve, FFXIV, and maybe a few others I’m forgetting.
If only there were a choice not to use them. If only……
I think they are fine as is. In fact, I don’t see why there are weapon restrictions at all. Having access to all weapon types would give more playstyle options. “Hammer Smash turns your foes into clones for 3s.” Yes please!
I can see where they are trying to avoid the “whack-a-mole” feeling with raid frames. If there was the ability to show health and condition frames above allies (non-grouped) then perhaps that would work. I’d be concerned about screen clutter with this feature, however. Especially in the heat of battle, with all the spell effects, I can see that these “on person” frames would be hard to see clearly.
I’m struggling playing my Guardian in open world events. I have no idea who needs a protective shield, condition removed, or heal without any sort of raid frame. I find myself randomly throwing out support abilities in the vicinity of nearby allies, but don’t know if I’ve actually helped anyone, or if I’ve helped the person who needs it the most. I’m quickly becoming disillusioned with the whole support concept in this game, so I’m hoping someone can actually tell me I’m doing it wrong and explain to me why and how. I don’t see any visual cues that are helpful, so asking for raid frames is the first thing that comes to mind.
P.S. I’m thinking of an open world grouping system similar to what’s in Rift.
