Probably in Arcana, seeing as how that trait line is needed most of the time, and already has traits benefitting other weapons like Blasting Staff and the scepter endurance trait.
Hi,
I’m not the most experienced focus use for the Ele. I’ve used it maybe twice, ever, just to unlock all the skills. So I’ll admit off the bat I’m clueless regarding the focus’s tactical strengths (or weaknesses.) Having said that, why is there no trait available to Eles that reduces focus skill cooldowns? All other professions that use foci (Guadian, Mesmer, Necromancer) get similar traits. Would providing Eles with such a trait simply be OP?
Thanks.
- I can’t play Charr because it was the first enemy I ever knew in GW. I love em now but I just can’t play one.
- I can’t play Asura because despite typically being funny little creatures are still rather ugly.
- I can’t play Elementalist because a lot of the skills seem like they’re in the wrong places and I don’t have “out of combat only” weapon swap.
- I can’t play Mesmer because using my profession’s shatter mechanic also means sacrificing effects of half my skills.
- I can’t play Ranger because there is only one melee single hand weapon (Sword) which allows me to use the off-hand skills I like but all of it’s skills set me on predetermined movement paths which makes me feel more like I’m clicking skills rather than fighting as I move.
- I can’t play Warrior because I get bored not doing anything special or fancy. Also the lack of viable weapons for content I like. (WvW is strictly Hammer+X/Warhorn)
- I can’t play Thief because there is no ranged bow option and the shortbow doesn’t feel like a weapon as much as it does extra utility skills. Wtb Longbow. I like longbows and I like weapons feeling like weapons. >.>
- I can’t play Guardian because it’s always Staff/Greatsword. You cannot deny or ignore the absolute great skills both those weapons have and I feel guilty using anything else.
- I can’t play Necromancer because it gets stale always using the exact same viable set-up and it gets boring only casting spells. Warhorn is great but I wish it had a Sword for melee AoE not just single target dagger, axe, scepter.
- I can’t play Engineer because their rifle skills are are shotgun like effects yet rifles are quite obviously “Rifles”. Pistols generally turn me off although they are good. Lastly because their mandatory backpack equip when using kits clash quite badly with any medium armor I actually like.
Uhh…which profession do you play then? o__O
I will never play a male Norn. They look hideous. I understand that they’re supposed to be big and badkitten, but they look grotesque to the point where it’s almost comical. Especially when they’re wielding oversized greatswords. And don’t even get me started on when they use the whirling attack on the GS. I know I sound harsh but every time I see a large heavy-armor wearing norn with a humungous greatsword run by me, it ruins my immersion a little. I can’t take them seriously.
Charr (males and females) are cool, EXCEPT when they’re running while wielding a one-handed weapon. Their gait is so awkward; I can’t help but think they’re about to fall flat onto their faces at any second. I really like them when they’re on all fours though.
I like playing my male sylvari, but I do agree he looks beyond idiotic when he’s running. The “stick-up-the-behind” thing is totally true.
Asura animations are perfect. No complaints.
And finally, human animations are great too. Though IMO you’d have to really try to make humans look bad in this game.
Why did they have to nerf Mist Form in PvE? Was healing while in Mist Form really trivializing PvE that much???
3. Eles- only 1 “viable” build lol? I’m only forced to use staff during boss fights where I need to be far away…
Yeah, I’m sorry, I probably shouldn’t have said “one truly viable build.” What I meant is that while S/D or S/F builds are certainly fun and situationally viable, they are outstripped by D/D. Scepter is gimped because you have to work so hard to ensure the big attacks even hit, and Focus, while having some great defensive skills, cannot compete with the mobility that offhand Dagger affords. Staff is obviously great for events, boss fights and WvW, but it’s sub-optimal to do solo PvE (i.e. the majority of PvE) with a Staff.
I’m not the most experienced Ele player though, so others can correct me if I’m wrong.
I really hope this thread (and others like it) actually has an effect in the form of updates.
As an Ele player, we desperately need viable build variety. Considering that the Ele’s designed to be a versatile profession, it’s a sad joke that D/D bunker is our ONE truly viable build. We need to bring Scepter and Focus (and Staff auto-attack and Air attunement) skills in line with Dagger skills. We need a rework of our Trait lines so we’re not constantly compelled to go at LEAST 20/20 in Water and Arcana. At the very least we need a damage buff to compensate for our lack of survivability, ESPECIALLY if D/D ends up being nerfed. And last but not least, we need better ELITES! The elemental is decent, but hardly epic. Tornado is like plastering a huge “HIT ME!” sign onto yourself, while losing your skills and attunements. Greatsword is meh; the fact that you lose out on your attunements while holding it gimps its effectiveness.
Granted, we’re not quite in the bind that Rangers, Engis and Necros are in…but if D/D is nerfed and no significant buffs are granted to us, we will be.
Dawn! Also got Zho’s Shoes, Dhuumseal (exotic greatsword) and 2 rares.
Hi, I’ve noticed this issue on my Elementalist for a while now.
I’m using 3 Signets on my Ele’s bar: Signet of Fire, Earth and Water. I’ve noticed that whenever I want to swap Earth and Fire on my bar (both are still equipped, but their positions have been switched), I end up losing the passive effect of the signet that is swapped in. For example:
Skill 7 is Signet of Earth
Skill 8 is Signet of Fire
My effects monitor above my skill bar shows the passive effects of both signets (Improved precision and improved toughness.)
I use the “up arrow” above Signet of Earth and select Signet of Fire from my list of utilities, my intent being only to swap the signets’ positions on my bar. The result: the 2 signets swap positions (Skill 7 is now Signet of Fire and Skill 8 is now Signet of Earth), but I have lost the passive effect of Signet of Fire for no apparent reason (effects monitor only shows Improved Toughness.)
I’ve only tested this with my Elementalist, so I don’t know if this issue affects other professions’ signets as well.
Edit: forgot to mention that the only way I’ve managed to fix the problem is by swapping out both signets for other skills and then slotting the signets into the correct slots again. This problem is not game-breaking by any means, especially as your skills’ placements will tend to be pretty fixed, but still an issue worth checking out IMHO.

Just completed it on my second try. I believe (don’t quote me) that the last objective (“Clear the beach of the undead”) will not update unless you kill every last undead you find. There is, as has been mentioned, an undead mob that will be stuck under the first or second tower, and will be totally invisible unless you target it with your skills with Auto-target enabled. In my case, there was one Risen stuck under the second tower that I found when my Meteor Shower kept hitting something under the tower (I kept seeing “Invulnerable” pop up from under me lol.) So I waited for a few seconds till the thing’s invulnerability ran out and nuked it; thankfully I was able to hit it despite being above it. Quest updated as normal after killing that last NPC.
