I have yet to do a monthly achievement because W vs W vs W is always tied into it or dungeons and now fractals. I find neither of these three areas fun and therefore will probably never get such achievement. I’d like to see something for those of us who simply want to game in the world with other players and not be forced into P vs P or having parties forced on us in-order to play areas like dungeon or fractals.
I started an entire thread about this a few days ago that exploration shouldn’t include P vs P areas but unfortunately W vs W vs W seems to be considered a P vs E area which is a complete load of bull in my book because I am not nor will ever be a P vs P player, I simply do not enjoy it or the antics and actions of most of your P vs P players. Not all are bad but it’s something no matter what the game developers design they’ll never take the unsportsmanlike like conduct and things gamers will bring with them into those spots. It always happens and again, it should have been something kept separate but unfortunately it wasn’t and for us P vs E players it SUCKS in a really big way.
To answer your question though – I received some suggestions when I made a comment about this and one was to switch to a winning server. Very bad idea if you have any attachments to the one you’re on or folks you really want to game with. I was also told everything could be mapped in a matter of hours and it was no big deal either…… What a load of total horse crap that statement was. The best suggestion I’ve seen and one which I’m using myself is to periodically check maps and go run and explore the areas your world has under its control. The maps do rotate so really the only thing you can do is keep checking those maps and slowly gain the areas you need. There were a few times I could sneak around and grab vistas or some POI’s on my own but some spots there’s absolutely no way to do this. Best of luck to gaining your title as there really is no easy route to completing this.
I’m having an issues as well. Got booted and cant log in without an error. I changed characters and was able to log in, but when trying to go back to the character select screen was booted again.
Exactly what’s happening to me and some characters I select seem to give me an instant boot from the server. I guess they are giving my Charr his rabies shots or something and I can’t play him until he’s done at the vets.
Thats life, we love to hate each other and it’s not going to change anytime soon.
It depends on the acceptance bad attitude gets in the community if everyone accepts and turns a blind eye then yes it will never change and continue but if lets say a gaming community decides this behavior is unacceptable and wont be tolerated then it would change after all everyone even the bully wants to be part of the whole group and not playing in the sandbox alone
Unfortunately the bully or I’ll just refer to them as jack wagons in this case need to be seriously taken down a notch. The type of person / people that’s being described is pretty easy to recognize and just to clear up what we see on these forums would take several moderators to handle on a daily basis and quite honestly be a full time job. I’m not sure any gaming company pays anyone to do just this as the time and effort alone would be just way too much. It’s kept pretty sane here on the forums for the most part but like I said the people that’s being discussed are pretty easy to spot and single out. There are several if I was in charge though that would have no accounts and be IP banned not account banned.
Far as a community tolerating stuff I applaud the effort Deborah and would like to see more people on these forums call out said jack wagons and posts made simply for trolling and have the moderators nuke those accounts with only said contributing factors of making others lives miserable or simply being a plain ( insert any four letter words here ). The community is diverse and there are ages from 14 to 70 I would imagine and the younger folks probably need a little more tolerance but when I was younger I knew right from wrong well before that and unfortunately it’s those with many more years to their credit which seem to be the worse offenders. Too many variables in what the community is actually made of to take into account every single thing which makes these things the way they are but the simple point of it all.
No we don’t have to tolerate it and in my own circle I’ve booted people from my guild and black listed many simply because of how they act and what they consider to be acceptable behavior. I’ll just continue to hold myself and others I game with to a slightly higher standard of behavior then the " Typical MMO player " we’re describing.
Flynch that link is nuked by my security suite so not sure what the heck was posted but it isn’t something I’ll be looking into. Thanks for trying though. I’m pretty paranoid about links no matter what site I’m on and gaming sites are quite honestly pretty bad.
Seriously can we get a list of just the Q @ A without this wall of text and arguments ?
Good luck getting folks to do this and it would be nice if many others did. Unfortunately the internet gives many folks the ability to act and do as they please with zero repercussions. It’s also why many of us simply play with friends and only those we do know. Very few times have encounters with players I’ve never gamed with been pleasant but those that have been a good experience I do remember as I can still count them on one hand.
Okay I’ve shifted through all the QQ and arguments I intend to but I would like to see a list of questions that were asked with their answers. Is there such a beast without the opinions and long winded responses / arguments from players ? I see it was sort of started at the beginning there and thank you for that Majormelchett. I’d just like to be able to see the Q @ A itself without the wall of text and pages here and I’ll have to admit I won’t use reddit either. That’s simply a maze and I can’t spend all day searching down answers in that jumbled mess of whatever that site is suppose to represent. I was actually hoping we would see just the Q @ A itself posted in here somewhere by Arena.net without the conversations they were going to spark from the players. I want to see the questions and answers not have to go researching for them.
Why not add weapons which are not already in the game ?
Two handed Axe / Pole Arms / Crossbows / One handed battle hammers ( Just to name a few )
Team up with complete strangers, help them out and get them what they want, watch them disappear and only ask for help weeks later when they’re stuck on something somewhere because you were a nice person and offered help so they added you to their friends list ? Funny that was weeks ago and you were who again ?
I do group and socialize but with people I consider real friends and many of us have been gaming together far longer then the life of GW 1 and GW 2 combined. That isn’t to say I don’t help the occasional stranger but 99% of those do end like the example I gave you above so why bother ? I have many friends at this point so do I really need others or only calm sunny weather friends ? Worse yet ….. Do I really need to baby sit another person’s kid or worse than that listen to adults that sound worse then my kids ? I’ll think I’ll pass and stick to what I know and just be nice when and if it tickles my fancy.
Excellant ! maybe I can make a little change off the ones I get from salvaging since I’m not grinding other areas for gold which is shall we say " boring " ! I might be able to actually afford some tier 3 cultural armor in a few months, yeah I said months.
They always have.
I have not always agreed with them and probably never will but for the most part I’d have to say they always try to aim to please as many as possible. If however you’re looking at all the " Doomsday " threads and comments on these forums those will always be there even if the game was standing at a 99.9% success rating and John Q public was eating it up so fast they couldn’t make copies of the game fast enough.
They have made some mistakes that have upset a large number of their player base and there are things they need to address on the bug and issues fronts that should be fixed before adding all this new content. Happy to see the added content but I’d like to see underwater issues, the invulnerability bug, and rendering fixed. I would think the more you add the more those things will get harder to fix. There’s some genuine concerns players have and some are just kiddies throwing fits.
If I listed my biggest gripe it’s the fact that P vs P and P vs E are still trying to be combined together and I’ve never seen them be able to do that and as far as how I like to play personally it could never be fixed to the point I’d like to play it ( hates P vs P with a passion ). To answer the question though. I have high hopes for this game and Arena.net is not nor could it ever be compared to companies such as Blizzard Entertainment. I’ve never seen them please everyone ( can’t happen ) but they have always shown a concern and desire to stay in touch with their fans. It’s been the only company I’ve actually heard key people there say in interviews that they are "providing a service " and with that mentality you’ll get more than something ran by some CEO answering to greedy stockholders. I’ve also never heard of companies letting their employees work on and take aspects of this game home and on " personal " time create things for the fans. They’re pretty passionate about their work and it shows but this game is a completely new direction for many of them and the company so they will be learning and YES …… " making many mistakes " along the way.
If I had to pick a gaming company to let’s say fix broken things or appease their fans, yeah I’d be backing Arena.net. I’ll still give them an ear full though when I see things I feel need to be said and a direction I see things going I’d rather not.
Edit: Fwiw – This was brought up many times in Beta by WvW players that puzzles/vistas/poi and map completion should not be in WvW. It just took up places for people that could be helping the war effort.
As for BoH they are a WvW reward and should not be available anywhere else. It would be like asking for CoF tokens to be dropped in WvW. Doesn’t make any sense.
Unfortunately if you do not wish to take part in certain parts of a game the ensuing rewards will rightfully be unavailable to you.
Agree with you on a few things here, I don’t think players who are really doing W vs W for W vs W want or should endure the puzzles, vistas and POI’s in there because it really makes no sense for what the area is about. It is an attempt to combine P vs E and P vs P elements to appeal to both types of players but In my own opinion it’s a failed attempt. Since I sincerely doubt any new map would be made I still think those who want to do this and have done it should receive credit and some reward for it. Consider it an added bonus for smashing your opponents and controlling the maps.
For the BOH we’ll have to disagree to disagree on that. My crafting ability is not related in any way to P vs P so why should I have to endure W vs W in-order to get the materials needed to make a legendary weapon if I decide to ? What needs to happen and what I’ve said all along is the rewards for both P vs E and P vs P should remain separate and they need to stop making aspects of the game where you have to do one to accomplish the other. It really boils down to just that. I also think that P vs P players shouldn’t have to play any P vs E aspects of the game either if it’s something they don’t wish to do because I believe each player should play what they want. Look at the back lash over ascended gear. I can’t imagine P vs P players are happy one bit about that ( again another topic though ). What needs to happen though is aspects of your gaming play needs to stop being tied into areas that are completely different from where you actually play. Like I said I can craft and it isn’t something tied to P vs P so why put my materials in a spot I refuse or hate to play ? Just tell me that legendary weapons are only for P vs P players and I would have been satisfied. Just like exploration should be just that. Exploring the world we crawl, walk and run through not wait in a que to go fight other players.
Yes to certain things being only available to certain types of players as well and for doing certain things. If you can beat a very hard area of the game and have something cool to show for it awesome but don’t combine P vs P and P vs E and honestly that’s what’s been done. Keep the rewards separate and unique for each and don’t hold it out as a reward for players as something and later let them find out it isn’t even an aspect of the game they even intended or want to play.
Ask me question about P vs P or W vs W …….. I couldn’t even tell you what they’re about because I don’t P vs P and never will. I’ve honestly tried it and every time in every game have hated it and quit shortly after. GW 2 is and was no different. Arena.net has tried their hardest to combine the two elements here and although I think they have done a good job in some of those areas to make it a better P vs P experience than most games it is still a P vs P experience and if they follow the trend they are currently setting they will lose a portion of their player base eventually because the two are never going to completely mix.
(edited by GreyFeathers.8175)
W vs W is players vs other players not players vs. environment you can argue it’s P vs E all you want. If it were some map where all our groups got together to beat on some monsters I’d agree with some of these posts but it’s not we’re fighting other players.
This seems to be something much like the added content for ascended gear that’s got players split into camps on this. I’m not even going respond to the trolls showing up in this discussion or defend if this game is a P vs E game or P vs P game because quite frankly it’s both and ALL OF US we’re told we could play the game as we wished when we started. The play styles of the two types of players are completely different and take any topic that involves both P vs E and P vs P and you should readily see that for the most part we don’t get along or care for one another. I could start an entire topic on the aspects of both P vs E and P vs P but on these forums it would simply become a flame fest.
Back on topic though there were some good suggestions and ideas expressed in here. Splitting exploration into two seems like a good call. Myself I have not even looked into legendary items but after reading and looking at the badges of honor it does seem that unless you want to P vs P or W vs W you’re only going to get these from one dungeon right now which is Twilight Arbor. Not sure I’m going to do that area the required several hundred times plus that would be required to get those. That’s kind of a lopsided and there should be more ways in which to earn these. Here’s some suggested possible added ways in which to earn those.
1.) Dynamic Events – Some of these have some nice boss monsters. Why isn’t there a chance to earn these from those chests at the end of some of these ? You could also maybe include an award of 1 – 2 of these after a count of completing " X " number of dynamic events.
2.) Kill Count on rare monsters – Having killed or beaten " X " amount of champions or elite monsters which quite honestly many players run around or past instead of fighting them.
3.) Award some for 100 % map completion – I think that if we explore 100% of the world we’ve battled something. It should also be part of the award to get us started earning these.
( the counts on kills or events could be something that’s reset upon each award and would encourage players to assist and participate in the dynamic world we have )
It would seem that W vs W and P vs P already has a multitude of ways to earn these and it’s nothing I play so no suggestions there. Although there should be some reward for exploration in W vs W as well if the two are split.
I’m in the camp that legendary and ascended gear ( complete other topic there ) should be something that’s hard to acquire or is a HUGE time investment otherwise it’s simply something which would never be special. I don’t see why legendary items require P vs P though unless you really want to advertise GW 2 as a P vs P only game. We can certainly play with out earning any of the achievements or making any of the really cool stuff but do you really want to lock out a portion of your fans ? It needs to be redesigned, re-thought and the two kept separate because no matter what you do to entice or encourage P vs P play you’re going to leave out certain players and in the end even alienate certain fans. I’d start another thread to discuss the differences between the two play styles, the players, and the problems of each but I’d only create a topic destined to be closed or shut down that would contribute no positive feedback or suggestions what so ever. Just look at some of the posts already here in this thread.
P vs E and P vs P —-— We really don’t get along and don’t wish to be a part of one another.
Well here’s another good reason for the split as well. Those of us going in there simply to get our exploration done and completed are for the most part going to do nothing to contribute to the W vs W events going on there. Those that do enjoy it would probably rather have another player there who wanted to join in then those simply looking to map. The game is joining two groups of players with two very different goals and it’s a flawed design. I know if I was into the W vs W action I’d rather have some more team mates then someone more worried about climbing around figuring out a jump puzzle or something like that.
Honestly what I would like to see happen is the achievement split. Give the W vs W people credit for completing their respective areas and let the rest of us have something for the actual world we get to walk, crawl and run through not stand in-line to battle other players. It’s an exploration title not a game completion title.
Regardless of how it’s explained to me W vs W is simply P vs P to me and is nothing short of a strategy type scenario where me and my party are the pcs on the board. It is not a story or something where I can actually immerse myself into like I can actually exploring the world. You could argue it is but if I want a strategy game I’ll actually go play one which doesn’t involve dealing with dozens of people I have to mute or ignore. I believe that splitting the title into two actual achievements would best serve the largest amount of players but again at this point if I get it I do and if I don’t so be it because it’s been tied to an area of the game I hate. I’ll try some of the suggestions that’s been made aside from actually switching servers because I still want to game with friends on the same server. It’s just a disappointment but it won’t be the first or last one I’m sure and there will be things about this game I will and will not like. I would like to think that they are at least looking at a lot of suggestions, dislikes, and gripes on these forums and judging from the news they are and quite honestly I feel sorry for the Devs and community managers who keep this place somewhat sane.
Nah….. Romeo you’re post doesn’t sound snarky at all it sounds exactly like something I would expect from a P vs P player and is usually the biggest reason many players hate P vs P over P vs E. It’s not so much the difference in the two it’s the players were forced to endure and their attitudes. You can dress up P vs P all you want but the same jack wagons and idiots we avoid as P vs E players will always be the same types in those areas. I know it seems lost on you but it really is that simple. I find your response and attitude typical of those players but it only serves to prove my point, but that’s just my honest opinion.
The battle grounds is nothing any P vs E player is going to consider anything short of P vs P and has absolutely nothing to do with exploration. These are maps which are not even attached to the world. Can we access them through exploration in any area in the world ? Plains of Ashford, Orr, Kessex Hills ? The answer is no…. so again why is a section of the world separated in it’s own space ? Perhaps it’s something which needs to be separate. If they want to open it up and include it on exploration then let’s just allow people into it by walking into it. This should let everyone be happy. I can see it now, people screaming but nobody is helping build fortifications or attacking the enemy. They’re just wandering around exploring. That would really tick off the commanders and Hard Core P vs P players wouldn’t it ? Oh wait I forgot someone just explained to me that this was P vs E so again try and give me another failed explanation or example as to why it’s classified as such.
Even in GW I…….. Underworld / Fissure of Woe / Domain of Anguish were considered elite areas and had no impact on ones exploration or back then cartographer title. I can’t be the only one who thinks this is BULL and it isn’t because we don’t want to work at something, we want P vs E and P vs P to remain separate where it belongs. If these truly are P vs E areas then they should be accessible by simple exploration. Trying to combine the two things never works and eventually someone will get the point. Judging by some of the more helpful and posts kept on topic others are equally confused.
Anytime they add anything remotely related to P vs P ( which I consider W vs W to be ) I’m always missing out and will continue to do so. It’s not anything I’ll ever do for any achievement.
No this isn’t an issue of people gripping about something for the sake of moaning this is something that is out of control in many areas. There are areas in-game that are almost impossible to do on your own and simple map exploration shouldn’t be one of those. The game seems to scale up easy enough but sure as hell doesn’t scale down enough when it comes to spawn rates if you have to investigate a spot for a POI or something else all on your own. I also doubt the Op is the only one who has thrown their hands up and said enough is enough and either quit or just moved on.
There are players who enjoy doing things on their own and this game was suppose to be able to be one which gave them the ability to do that but sadly many game mechanics and other things are being forced on those players in-order for them to accomplish some of their goals. Some simply are not going to go for the group thing and some maps waiting for one can be a matter of a very extended amount of time to include days thus preventing that players progression in the game.
I’ve sort of developed a play style using things like the Charr War band support for added bodies in areas such as that or summoning spirit weapons for guardians but that would all depend on one’s character class, race and skills available. It helps in some of these spots but I’ve also found myself blocked in by things I’ve already killed when I’m trying to adventure on my own and as explained in another post, this is something which should have taken me 10 – 15 minutes and has now turned into an hour or more and sometimes becomes only a failure and waste of my time. So I don’t know what the solution is but yeah there’s a problem with this.
Honestly I think the failed philosophy of thinking everyone is going to want to be in a group or play in one has prevented Arena.net from catching that their solo players are going to find areas of the game off limits. If it’s there for us to explore we’ll explore it, we’re those types of players. If you’ve designed it for groups it shouldn’t be something a single player can stumble into and if it is it shouldn’t be something they can not accomplish on their own. It’s honestly probably something as simple and stupid as that.
Participate in something fun I’m all game, to force me into doing something I hate will never be enjoyable. I’m not even worried about it at this point anymore. The time and effort I spent attempting some of it this evening was just an epic waste of time I could have actually spent enjoying something else.
This is really more of a feedback and question as to WHY map exploration is tied into W vs W. Maybe this is something I should have looked into earlier but I really don’t consider exploration P vs P. I absolutely hate that genre of gaming, HATE it, not dislike but hate the stuff. I’m honestly going to have to sit through endless battles I won’t enjoy just to get the map completed ? There isn’t anything strictly for P vs E is there ? Why on earth would they combine W vs W with exploring. Quite honestly it should be split, all they accomplished with this is shrinking the world I want to game in and giving me one less goal as a P vs E player. W vs W will NEVER be fun and if they thought they would entice those of us who liked to explore and map areas into doing this, it isn’t working for me.
I’m not sure even sitting at 91% that I want to endure the W vs W areas to complete this on my character. What an epic waste of time this has been leading up to this to only find out I must also be a P vs P player to be considered an explorer.
I think we’re over emphasizing the stat increase. I’m not saying it isn’t substantial, or that it should even be allowed in WvW, but I don’t think it’ll have the cataclysmic impact that folks seem to give it.
It’s not the stat increase alone. It’s the gate that ANet opened which they promised they never would.
This last sentence sums it all up. They’ve headed down a path that is going against what a large part of their fan base bought into. The ability to be on par with other players and not have to grind or pay in-order to keep up with the game. This opens the door to completely destroy that.
The worst thing is it will fragment the areas of the game and if it isn’t the latest and greatest area it’s going to be a dead zone or one not populated with many players if they keep adding content like this and that fast. I had hoped we wouldn’t see the same trend of adding content so fast like we did in Guild Wars I.
At this point, as a more P vs E based player and one who wants to explore the game lore the content they are adding is only making my game smaller because the content they are adding is not going to make me want to grind new gear in-order to simply acheive the ability to be able to find a group. At this point right now unless it’s a group of my friends I can’t even see myself wanting to do these areas. The sad part is I do have a few friends who only play at night after work and with all the new content that’s been added they haven’t add the ability to experience it at all and are actually considering quitting. I still enjoy the game but I find the areas and people I enjoy gaming with shrinking everytime new content is added because it has not been added for your casual gamer.
Most the time I never even get the monthly reward because there is usually something I have to end up doing that I don’t like or absolutely hate and I’m not playing something I don’t enjoy for the rewards.
W vs W vs W – So long as that remains a part of it I’m never going to get a monthly ( I hate P vs P, not just dislike but hate it )
Dungeons – Aside from seeing the story that’s involved, I could care less about ever setting foot in one again. I can’t see them making these something I’ll ever consider fun.
( There is no monthly reward that will entice me to play in either of those two areas, nothing. It would be nice to see something for a monthly that was more inclined toward P vs E and didn’t require those of us who hate P vs P or higher end areas where we MUST endure the antics of elite snobs to accomplish a monthly reward )
Switch it up, maybe there will be months I won’t get anything, but it would be nice to work toward one a few times at least.
Yeah that server would have a self life of about 1 – 2 weeks because that would be the amount of time it would require for the elite crowd to become bored again.
It saved P vs E really ? I had the impression there was a wedge being driven between your elite and casual players. Let me get back in-game and check.. oh wait I did and yeah that wedge is getting hammered in there pretty good.
Without reading the 10,000 posts that have already probably stated how I already feel about this I’ll only say the following.
" If it’s required to actually play game content and succeed, I doubt I’ll be playing much longer or at least in areas which require it "
I’m also wondering WHY these things must be world wide events and not an instance for players. Is the current game mechanics preventing this ? The personal story is already there so it’s possible and as far as trying to bring players together ( if this is the reasoning ) all I see currently is a lot of elitism being fostered in way too many groups and driving an even bigger wedge between players they want to bring together.
I guess I’m a small minority of players that want to game and play with friends and not 100 complete strangers on the same map. If I wanted to game with strangers I’d find another game. I’d like to see more instances myself.
LOL……..LOL
I never even thought of having my own group do these areas. My own guild and group of friends do fairly well in regards to these areas but it doesn’t change the direction these areas are taking. Someone missed the point of this post.
Elitism is creeping into these areas hard and whatever you want to call it, it is getting worse and will continue to remain so. The holy trinity has only been replaced now by levels, gear and other things your elite players are looking for. Those without a good social base of friends are not going to find these areas easy to get into let alone fun.
I’m another player who enjoys the games lore and agree with the OP’s original post. Let’s fix the bugs we have before the new content. I’ve been a loyal fan for many years but if I can’t enjoy the games lore and play at my own pace then I may have to stop. I don’t need everything now and I don’t want it now, getting there is half the fun. I also realize there’s things I may never acheive but honestly let’s fix what we have here first so we can really enjoy the rich lore and what the dev’s are trying to give us. You have some awesome and creative people but the ways in which their ideas are being added to the game leave so much to be desired the effect is lessened if not completely destroyed.
This has been hit upon in a few threads as well but I wanted to address something which was suppose to be different in this game. How many of us hated waiting around for that player with build " x " or the monk we needed as a healer ? Currently this is being replaced in GW 2 by " Must be level 80, have max upgraded gear, ect. ect. ". Try and get into a dungeon group and it being your first time. The waiting 1/2 hr to 45 minutes to just form a group is still there and sometimes you have to simply give up because you can’t get the 5 people you need. I hated this in GW 1, other MMO’s and I’m not even going to try areas where I spend as much time organizing a group or trying to get into one as I would playing said area.
Arena.net you got rid of the holy trinity just to see it replaced by elitism and the need to have the best gear in-order to be accepted for these areas. This was, well to a point still is a game I’m still excited about playing but it’s slowly having things added to it I’m finding myself questioning if I really want to be a part of it or spend any time on it. I know dungeons will not be anything I ever find fun or higher end areas where groups are just as bad at discriminating. There are already posts asking for " gear scores " and ways in which this elitism will only get worse.
The idea behind playing GW 2 as I wanted, when I wanted and with who I wanted is not at all as it was advertised and described before the games release. I’m one of those players who enjoy the games epic and rich lore and playing my character as that character. However in-order to even see the story which un-folds with Destiny’s Edge you’re forcing your more casual ( and not even sure that’s the correct term ) since I have probably logged as many hours as those considered your hard core players, to endure the LFG and elitism that’s currently the rage in the game. Most of the players who take the time to play as their character, work them up in low end areas and spend more time using the game socially and not zerg, zerg. zerg to attain a high level and gear in the fastest amount of time possible will never be able to even explore and experience those areas.
There is no way you’ll ever please every player but you’ve currently designed a story line that there’s no way certain players will ever experience it. If you want to create elitism and the " look at me " items that the kiddies will crave you need to keep that above and beyond of what the normal story calls for itself. My own opinion is that dungeons in story mode should be a solo quest and not a 5 person romp through an elite area. Leave the explorable part for those that want to sit around and knit pick to death peoples gear and levels. Let those of us who want no part of the direction the game is taking the ability to at least experience the games lore and story. You can do both and it isn’t as difficult to balance as you would think. I’m also cringing at WOW aspects that seem to be finding themselves into this game. It’s something I think the Live team is really going to want to take a hard look at and decide if appeasing a select group of gamers is worth alienating many who wanted and still want to play this game for fun.
It is this bad…….
LFG AC story mode " OMG ! you’re level 80 and haven’t done this ? Sorry no noobs in my group ! "
Guys kick the ranger, we have to have a guardian and make sure they run build " x "
The cement that keeps games going is the fans and small things such as guilds that bring friends and players together. If it were not for a few good friends and a small guild of real life friends that play the game I would quit playing. It’s an awesome game but PUGS are still horrible and elitism is something running rampant in the game and getting worse as new content is added and many players are not even through the game itself or exploring it. As a veteran of GW 1 who played for 7 years and one who has stood by Arena.net most of the time, I’m seriously considering if that should change with the direction this game is taking.
They are trying to keep that 2% of gamers happy that grind and do have hours to spend each day playing but your casual gamer is suffering. It’s not only new content but I see the same bias happening in normal dungeons. Try to get a group for story mode sometime ( You’re a level 80 and have not done this dungeon ? Sorry no noobs in my group ). It isn’t just this update it’s happening through out the entire game.
I still refuse to play in PUGS and if that means I can’t play certain areas so be it and if it gets to the point I’m missing out on too much I’ll simply stop playing. What they need to do is modify dungeons so smaller groups can get them done or at least allow a group of only 2 -3 players to do them. Sadly the type of player that’s rising to the attention of Anet and unfortunately the loudest on these forums isn’t the type of person I want to spend my gaming time with.
Story Mode should be something a single player can do and not a group of people. If they want to cater to P vs P and Hard Core gamers great just stop killing the casual gamer in the process as well. I have no intention of doing dungeons save for the story and game lore that’s involved and if the massive group events is what I have to look forward to, there isn’t much to look forward to. I’m not the only one who feels this way either I would expect.

The thing which gets me is that people seem to think when you hit level 80 that’s it. Nothing left to do and nothing left to explore. I think it’s great we’re getting new content but Anet is going to be soon falling into the same thing they did in GW 1. How much of your gaming community isn’t even ready for new content ? How many of those people have not even touched what’s out there ? These events and level 80 content is going to make many players feel that they can not keep up with the game and they’ll split the player base into " have" and " have nots " making level 80 content that much harder for players to be a part of because they have not done a certain event or have a certain upgrade. It’s already happening in dungeons for pick up groups. Your casual player is getting left in the dust and the hard core only play level 80 content people are going to be bored and screaming there’s nothing left to do in a few weeks again anyway.
I honestly avoid the water as much as possible because of this as well and would like to see this addressed and fixed. I’ll also second and third a voice that bugs should be addressed before new content or eventually we’ll end up with these things simply staying in the game for good.
I can name a few bugs in GW 1 that stayed in-game and were never fixed and players were forced to live with them. " Obstructed " but wait we’re standing on the same bridge and I can hit them with a sword but not a bow ?
I bought the mad King outfit and love it ! Halloween is one of my favorite holidays both in and out of game. As far as buying Keys for the Black lion Chest I really doubt I will but I love the ability to make our in-game events an extension of what me and my guild do within the game so yeah I’ll continue to support the game and buy things I think help me to make those events a little better for me and those I game with. Many of us play as our characters in-game and set up events for others so it’s really nice.
I also believe in this game and it’s what I’ve been waiting on for some time. If I spend a little money on events and help Anet while I’m enjoying myself that’s just an added bonus. I’d also like to say to those who think that some of the Halloween stuff was set up as a money grab are pretty much full it. Nobody pulled your arm to spend anything and you have the option not too. Anything you want within the game is something you can get without spending real money and you don’t need to in-order to succeed at this game. Either play the game and work at it, spend some money on gems, or please shut up.
There is nothing worth while for doing nothing, even in a video game.
Loved the event over all but the end party seemed to have so much going on that it seemed to lagg a lot and really kind of reminded me on this end of the initial beta tests where everything went in slow motion. I eventually got booted from the event and the error report has already been sent in.
Loved the scenes, the scavenger hunt and the random trick or treat doors the best and as a gamer I appreciate all the time and work that had to have went into the event.
I have had a blast with the event, great job !
I have no intention of even trying another jump puzzle. I’m not even fond of the normal jump puzzles. They only get done because map completion requires it, otherwise they all would remain un-done. I know others enjoy them so it’s good they are in the game for those who enjoy them but I simply do not and never will find them fun.
Great Job on Halloween !
I’ve been loving the event and I can’t wait to see what Wintersday in Tyria is going to be like. I wonder of the gods are going to make a return or if Tyria has somehow managed to get by without Grenth and Dwayna fighting each year ?

The eye candy and graphics for this event have been awesome !
Okay here’s two that should have made the Mad King’s list.
1.) What do you call a necromancer that can’t keep her hands off of Professor Yakkkington ?
A necrofeelayak
2.) What’s the Sylvari’s version of immaculate conception ?
Miracle grow
This is the way to voice your opinion. I only wish many other topics had the same amount of effort and thought put into them. I suggested some changes to the original Black Lion trading chest months ago and it got very little feedback from the community. Quite sadly I see nothing but those seeking something for nothing or those simply upset they gambled and lost and are now lashing out like 4 year old kids who didn’t get their way.
As a long time player of Guild Wars I can say that I for one have not always agreed on things they have done but in no way have they ever been dishonest. I might expect that from NcSoft or Blizzard but Anets track record suggests otherwise. How many of the April Fools content did we get for GW 1 that was done by Anet employees on their own free time for us players and how many companies would let alone allow their employees to even do such a thing ? No this is a company that tries its best to please as many gamers as it possibly can but sadly some of the additions to the Guild Wars community ( the player base in particular ) have not been to my liking and it wouldn’t hurt my feelings to see them leave and return to other games.
@Senoph – This is the way to discuss things and I salute the way you’ve handled this. I only wish that many others would do so in a similiar manner.
Finally !
Here’s the part of the GW 2 community that needs to be discussing the game and making threads about it. I have been glued to my computer since GW 2 has come out and I’m loving it. I have more time than most being a disabled veteran and there’s lots of hours logged on my account. I can say that I have more than gotten my moneys worth with the game and all that comes with it.
The Halloween event has been absolutely amazing and I’m looking forward to seeing everything else that’s coming up. The game is my place to relax and get away from the real world and you all have made an amazing way to do so. Looking forward to at least as many years in GW 2 as I had in GW 1 and that lasted seven years. You’ve made a world were people can really immerse themselves in their characters and get involved with others as well. The game is really what " WE " the players make of it and you’ve provided some amazing ways for us to do so.
<<<<< One Fan in for the long haul and I’ll disagree and yell when P vs P gets involved and screws with my P vs E playing but we can save that for another topic. If I compared the Halloween event from GW 1 to what I’m seeing now all I can say is you rasied the bar for yourself and what amazes me is that you continue to do so.
Thank You !
Honestly enough of the whinning already I’m really tired of the " gimmie " attitude and entitlement views of so many of these gamers. Can we get a moderator to bundle all of these into one thread so those who wish to complain can go to thread A and the rest of us can stop having to shift through all these whinning and worthless posts and actually discuss the game.
What’s funny is if you tag these posts where person " x " is complaining about not having the godly gear or items they’re also soon complaining about being bored because there is nothing to do either.
In all seriousness though I know I’m not the only one tired of the negative and whinning posts. Anyone else agree or do you all enjoy the drama here ? I’d rather have some good discussions or debates about things and get back to my gaming instead of shifting through what posts may or may not even be worthy of being here.
As usual Anet comes through with some fun content for the holidays and for once I’m happy to see someone commenting about good things instead of gripping about crap. I’ve almost stopped using these forums all togeather because of the later but it hasn’t stopped my love of this game and the good times I’ve been having. I only got to spend a little time with the event last night but my first words were WOW……
Loving it so far and for the poor folks who actually have to shift through the garbage here on these forums there are those of us who appreciate what you do and it has to be a pretty thankless job sometimes. I’m afraid there would just be mass bannings of Jack Wagons if I had to do it since they have nothing better to contribute than complain or troll on these boards. That’s not the GW 2 community and Anet isn’t another gaming company. I’ve yet to find a company I’ve been more comfortable with supporting then them. I have not always agreed with some of what’s been done but as usual in the end me the customer has always come out ahead.
Keep up the good work and thank you from the mostly silent part of the GW 2 community.
Happy Halloween !!!
If you’re counting these official forums as the entire GW 2 community then sadly you all are mistaken. The GW 2 community does a lot and if you’re counting only what transpires here then you’re missing most of it. I’ll have to admit that these forums are slightly better then Guru or a few other sites. The constant whinning and complaining is getting very old though. I’ll have to give Anet credit for the most part since these boards do remain clean and somewhat user friendly but it hasn’t gotten them the type of players that really help a community out.
Don’t judge the GW 2 community by what transpires here. Although if you do want to find those who complain and like to shout the loudess just read any part of the forums here. I almost cringe when I come here to read things anymore. I could point the OP in the direction of several well run and friendly guilds ( which run their own sites ) but most folks that are drawn from these forums who do post would not last very long within those guilds. It’s more of an age and maturity thing and sadly Anet also has to endure those who lack that and they seem to be flocking to these forums more and more.
If I were to judge the GW 2 community based on these forums I’d give it low marks as well but I know better. Having come from GW 1 and playing with folks for well over seven years now I can safely say the GW 2 community is indeed very strong and extremely active as well as helpful but I wouldn’t be looking here for those things. There’s way too many bad posts and things here people have to sort through and that gets old.
Thanks……. I was wondering if I was going to need the Fine T-Stones to make this happen but it looks as if I can save those for something else.
I’m wondering how this works for the Hall of momument skins you can get. I know a basic T-Stone only works for items below level 80 but if I have level 80 armor or a weapon I want and I want it to look like the HOM skins how do I go about that excatly ?
Will the HOM skins even work on level 80 items ? There are a few that are just awesome and I’d love to keep them.
40 something or another and I stopped counting birthdays many moons ago. I have also noticed trends in younger gamers but I’m not going to start a rant right now.
Now Get Off My Lawn !!
