I think that eventually, everyone will get a shot at items that have been “limited release”, whether that’s from re-introduction of content, or similar content, (which would be my preference) or just throwing them in the gem store (which is a cop out to me).
I don’t think that it would be appropriate right now to do this, the game is too young and there are still plenty of these limited release items floating around. The fact that you can’t get them for cheap is intentional in my mind. You have to remember, the majority of the expensive limited time items on the TP made Anet tons of money from RNG, and when they put them back in as RNG items it will make them more money (this is good because it allows for continuation of the game and improvement).
The only thing in your post I would be agreeable with is making account bound mini’s tradeable (Anet may want these as status symbols, like “I was there” type thing). I would also think that making dyes account bound would be okay too.
1000 gold? Really? I play my kitten off for fun and gold and because I don’t stare at excel spreadsheets all day long I get rewarded with peanuts. This is Trading Post Wars 2 not Guild Wars 2. Ridiculous
You don’t have to stare at spreadsheets all day long to make money on the market, all you need to do is be smart and stay on top of new additions/updates to the game (and not spend all your capital before you invest).
I foresaw that the Halloween skins would probably be worth more because they were limited, so I bought 1 ghastly shield, 1 The Crossing, 1 scythe skin, and 2 Chain saw sword skins for around 50g total….I sold The Crossing and Ghastly shield for a net of 400g and still have the scythe and sword skins.
I also bought up 2 super shields, 2 super staffs, 1 super greatsword, multiple flame/frost dyes, and got one super shield drop from the SAB for around a total cost of 150g and all that now is worth between 380g and 450g depending on the day.
I’ve made bad investments too (Everlasting toymaker tonic and the exotic wintersday bell….lost about 40g).
They dye prices may crash if they end up staying indefinitely (which I personally don’t think they will) and the skins may be reintroduced later (because we haven’t had definitive confirmation they won’t).
Bottom line, if you think it will be a limited item and will be wanted by people, invest, even if it’s only a small portion of your cash because having your gold in the bank will not make you money.
The problem is the same people keep showing up in the same thread with the same attitude. When those people weren’t in the same thread everything was fine, but there are a few personalities that provoke other people and that leads to conflict. There are also people that like to masquerade back handed insults as compliments.
Either way, the content of this thread is not representative of any one particular server’s population and is more representative of individual’s overinflated sense of pride and self worth, and it has been individuals from BOTH TC and FA doing this.
Now kids, play nice and like my mom said when I was young:
If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.
So he should just wait maybe one/two more years for it right?
ANet should just fix this asap, there’s no point in crafting it and I completely understand the OP.
All the people complaining about his point, hah, you’re just saying that because you haven’t made an expensive item and the same happened to you.
Um, I made the ascended quiver for the ascended, quiver of swift flight, function only (didn’t care about the look) and a few weeks later anet came out with the fractal ascended back piece. If they would have said that they were going to do that, and that it wouldn’t cost any gold, I would have waited, but instead I wasted around 100g on crafting a back piece that I could have gotten for free.
Was I irritated about if, sure, for about a day, then I just said “oh well” and got on with my life. I didn’t go and start complaining that it “cheapened” what I did…..I got what I wanted when I wanted it and it was my choice.
People who crafted Wintersbite got what they wanted when they wanted it. You don’t see people complaining about The Crossing/Arachnophobia/The Mad Moon do you? Those are craftable but cost way less to buy because they were out of a chest.
If someone buys it for 90 G what is it to you. How is it effecting you? You already have it., and it is already soul bound to you. I mean, it is not as if you can turn around and sell it when you don’t want it.
What’s it to me? It makes the bow less of an achievement, and less special if other people can go out and buy it for much, much cheaper than it cost to craft it. That’s what it is to me.
Not sure I’m following…how is ANYTHING that can be purchased an “achievement?” Oh right, it’s not (that would include Legendary weapons.)
I’ve made both my Wintersbite and my Frostfang on my own, and did not purchase them. The point I’m trying to make though, is not that Wintersbite shouldn’t be allowed to be sold, but that it shouldn’t drop from the Claw of Jormag event, and cost 150g less than when crafting it.
It only costs 150g less because people put that value on it. If more people wanted it the price wouldn’t have dropped at all. You paid a premium to have it when you wanted it. If you didn’t want it at the “250g level” of price you wouldn’t have gotten it…it was worth that much to you. Just because it got old and now “is on sale” doesn’t mean that others shouldn’t enjoy it.
You got what you wanted out of it, a weapon, and paid a premium for it….now go have fun with your weapon and don’t worry if others are getting a better deal on it than you did.
All you’re showing is buyer’s remorse.
Yea, too many time zones…. and it was too late for me to be posting that anyway (work only about 4-5 hours after the post) but I figured I’d just do what I could. Either way the times are close and would seem, to me, to be a better options all around than what was proposed by Anet.
But, it seems like this controversy has died down and the sky hasn’t fallen, so I don’t think it’ll be an issue anymore.
This suggestion/recommendation was said in another thread, but I think has gotten lost in all the animosity within that thread and I just wanted to highlight it and see what support/non-support it would have.
Please either show support, non-support and/or give reasons why you think/don’t think it would be better than the current proposed reset time that will soon take effect.
Please don’t attack other people’s posts, if you want to do that go to some other thread.
The idea was:
Have the WvW reset time be on Saturday, such as 1PM PDT, 4PM EDT, 10PM for most of EU, 4AM (Sunday) for Western Aussie and 6AM (Sunday) for Eastern Aussie
Or, you could do it as:
Friday evening 9PM PDT, 12PM EDT, 6AM (Saturday) for most of EU, Noon (Saturday) for Western Aussie, and 1PM (Saturday) for Eastern Aussie
My opinion
I’m trying to take into consideration reasonable times for reset for all time zones with having the least stress put on any one area.
As it stands, with the current proposed reset times the majority of SA/NA will be at work/just getting home from work at reset, EU will still be hitting reset late night after a work day, and SEA/Oceanic will be pulling early morning. By shifting the reset more towards the weekend (time when the majority of people aren’t working) it should satisfy more WvW players.
The first example of proposed times above puts more burden on the SEA/Oceanic players with very early morning reset for them.
I personally like the second option better because it allows SA/NA players the option of staying up to play at reset, EU players the option of getting up at a reasonable time to play at reset, and will actually allow SEA/Oceanic players the chance to play at reset.
IMO, this is win all around. Let me know what your proposed times for reset are and why you think they are good.
I had some thoughts on the subjects spread over the two locked threads and this one and wanted to get them out.
I’ve seen it posted that EU has a larger playerbase than NA, but I don’t get that statement when 22/24 servers on NA (now, at 0130 CST) are at very high status, with two at high, where as the EU servers have 10/27 at very high status and majority at medium status. Now I know that play time in EU right now isn’t at the ideal, but that shouldn’t make that much difference. If EU has a larger playerbase I would think that their servers should be more full than the NA servers.
Also, why not push the reset time back further, say starting at midnight EST time….that way it’s still at a reasonable time for the majority of NA to get in a few hours of play at reset and then EU can get up in the morning and hit it hard (even plan ahead and go to bed earlier on friday nights to be more rested in the morning). I would think that would be a better solution than pushing it back into NA work day since everyone seems to want to be around at reset time (and that’s what this is, a fight over being there at reset).
I see multiple people in this thread saying that they require 100% rep because they are trying to build a “community” or “family”, but I’d ask them….do you know all of the people who are active on your roster at any one time?
I would say that any guild who is at, or near, the cap has no excuse as to why they would require 100% rep other than want for more influence or feeling insulted because someone decided that a little bit of their time was better spent with a different group.
Once a guild gets so large it stops being a family or community and starts becoming more like a cult; people join it because of the name and leaders want more people to join so they can further their name.
I help run a small guild, we have 35 members on the roster, maybe about 5-6 active on week nights and 10 or so active on Friday-Sunday nights…2-3 of the 35 member regularly..gasp…represent a different guild. If I want to include the non-representing members in our activities I whisper them and see if the want to join (I don’t ask that they represent). If people don’t represent and don’t participate at all, then I’ll let them know that we feel that they aren’t contributing to the social part of the guild, ask that they come chat/play with us a bit more, and if they don’t….then I’ll let them know that we let them go.
A few people not representing isn’t going to spoil a guild, it will only spoil the ego of the people running the guild. Granted, if a significant portion of the guild isn’t representing (I’d say >20% in guilds 50+ members, >30% in guilds <50) then it becomes an issue.
My personal opinion, take it or leave it. If anyone has similar thinking to mine, you are more than welcome to look me up in game, I’ll have a sympathetic ear to any dictator guild problems you want to vent about.
So the timer is now comparable to other boss events, but can we make the actual event comparable to other boss events and not something that can have the “boss” be zerg steamrolled in less than 15 seconds? It’s not even fun.
Last week, there was a Wurm event on my server (Blackgate) where the Wurm died so fast the event never actually triggered and there was no chest. The Wurm was literally dead before it even spawned in all the way.
The Maw is only slightly better, I did the Maw earlier today and he was dead in about 10-12 seconds. As it is, I stopped doing the very last pre event where you destroy the 3 portals because if you’re too far away from the boss, you can’t get back in time to get in a hit before he dies. Both these ‘bosses’ need a serious buff.
I believe you’re both forgetting that these are meta world boss events held inside starter areas of the Tyrian map. Same with the fire elemental at Thaumanova. Of course they’re gonna drop like a lead balloon with so many L80’s on them at once, all for the sake of the loot. The fire ele is actually probably the hardest one of those examples to get to drop, the others are soft by comparison. Even with the appropriate level scaling in effect, we do a heap more damage than if the bosses were expecting starter characters.
I thought the boss events like this were supposed to be appropriately scaled to the number of people participating in them? My question is, are the bosses in these starter areas expecting L80’s to thump the crap out of them?
But, one of the reasons they buffed the chests was to get people to go do stuff outside of cursed shore….to actually play other areas of the game. It shouldn’t matter where the fight is, if there are 100 lvl 80 characters in the participation area of the event then the event should scale difficulty to the level of fighting 100 lvl 80 characters. Hell, the svanir boss at the north end of the map is harder than Maw, and he doesn’t even have a chest.
As for the fire ele, they should make it as difficult as it was in beta. That was the only time it was challenging or fun. These are world bosses, supposed to be the baddest of the bad, the most feared enemies in the game, and all I do on my elementalist for the fire ele is stand right in the middle of it and spam my aoe skills….I maybe get hit once, but get right back up, use my heal skill, and keep on spamming.
It’s a joke and if they are going to keep these bosses a joke then they should drop the timer back down closer to where it was because they are not on par with other world bosses.
Did they say it’s not going to be permanent?
Nope. Someone just made that up.
I’m glad to hear that. Just wish we could get some official confirmation on this though.
I hope it’s permanent. I can’t imagine they’d make a whole new tab for it if it was just temporary…
It is going to be cyclical, meaning that it will go away after a short while, but will come back (when new additions are made to it). Source here
“*Also just found out it will not be permanent, but cyclical, coming back on line as new content is added. I’m pretty blah about that. It’s got it’s pros and cons. Biggest pro is that it makes the likelihood of continued development much higher.”
Quote from Ragged_Scrybe, who is Josh Foreman (same guy who did Mad King’s Clock Tower).
I don’t want to reveal “what goes in the sausage” but there are several variables that affect how often some of the meta-events run. The sole change that was made to this event in this update was increasing the restart time for the event to make it comparable to other “boss” style meta events.
So the timer is now comparable to other boss events, but can we make the actual event comparable to other boss events and not something that can have the “boss” be zerg steamrolled in less than 15 seconds? It’s not even fun.
That would actually give people time to get there and make the 2 hour wait (or whatever the timer is now) actually feel like it’s worth it. The Wurm boss fight is even worse, you have to be camping there at the time of the pre-event start, basically, to even have a chance since the boss gets downed in <10 seconds.
IMO, now is the time to sell for Ghastly shield and The Crossing since both are at an all time high and there aren’t many left to buy on the TP. The Crossing may go up in price a little, since there are still a decent amount available for purchase on the TP, but I don’t think that the Ghastly shield will go up much more….last time I logged on there were 5-6 available to buy ranging from 248g to 300g. I think people are finally buying these items out because of the new chest loot, but with the changes to the chest coming in 2 days the income for a lot of the players (likely players buying these items) is going to go down (or at least going to be perceived as going down) and then we’ll see prices drop again.
More than likely they’ll release the same skins this next year, as in GW1 they always had the same event skins every year, and maybe add a few more as well.
Either way, I’m happy with the way my investment went, spend around 40g buying skins and sell for 406g.
So you have helped out small-guilds who simply couldn’t GAIN or BUY the influence. What makes you think these guild can then DO the guild missions as they currently stand? That’s the problem you are missing here.
Haven’t missed it. I’m fully aware of this perspective, however, we have always said that these guilds who are extremely limited in number will have to work together to attain these goals. That’s what this content is about. That’s WHAT these rewards are about.
There’s a huge variety of content and rewards available in the game. And while some rewards can be attained several ways, others are reserved as merit for specific tasks. This is no different from dungeon armor, achievement titles, or the map-completion badge. Certainly we would never give you those things for completing guild content.
Can we get a way to make it easier to work with other small guilds? As of right now it’s kind of a hassle. If you have one person out scouting each possible npc, and they all aren’t on the same guild then it gets all kinds of complicated trying to communicate what enemies are needed and receive information back on their locations. It’s also even more difficult trying to schedule these events with other guilds outside of the game.
It would be nice it we could have an alliance panel so we could coordinate with other guilds, joint up with other guilds, and even possibly have a chat specifically for the alliance too. You could even make it so that you could have a maximum member number of 500 (so it would be the same concept of max guild size….basically the alliance would be a consolidation of many guilds into one large guild for the purpose of helping each other out without requiring that each individual guild loses its identity).
This would help out all those smaller guilds who don’t have the raw numbers to do the actual guild bounties as effectively as large guilds and those small to moderate sized guilds who have a limited number of active players/players wanting to do guild missions.
Maybe you could somehow integrate it into the multi-guild membership system….I don’t know.
Majority of the minis quoted there were not given out in game as a reward for playing, but rather as a reward for tournament placement. There were lots of other minis given out at conventions and through magazines too. In general, the only mini that I can think of that was rare and you could obtain through playing the game (not just through RNG birthday gifts) was the ghostly hero.
The one thing that I remember them discontinuing was the HoD sword. Prices on this shot up, but later they introduced weapon upgrades that made it easier to get the same buff that was exclusively on the HoD sword on pretty much any weapon you wanted…..and then the price of the HoD sword went from sky high to rock bottom.
Basically, anet doesn’t have a history of discontinuing items, they have a history of giving out exclusive items as prizes for events in real life that involve the game. Now, I can tell you “they are going to have the same skins this halloween” or that they won’t, you just have to go off of your knowledge of what Anet has done in the past and your investor instinct.
Been grinding on just getting AoW up to max tier so we have the option to queue guild bounties, and we still have 6 days before we can even start that queue (and still need 28k more influence).
OP: be happy where you are right now. Realize that there are TONS of people in game who do not have access to the content you currently do and will not have access to it for MONTHS, if not more.
Bottom line……FIX THIS CRAP ANET.
How to get stealth on any character:
Buy the spy kits… ash legion or order of whispers. Both can stealth you, one lasts longer than the other though.
MattVisual did a video recently talking about this.
about 5:09 in.
Except those aren’t the same, they’re camouflage so if you move it breaks AND they have been nerfed into the dirt since they now have a ridiculous cool down timer on them.
WvW players have created their “legendary” by playing WvW. Why shouldn’t they be rewarded for what they have accomplished in the past?
You will be rewarded for your legendary when they are granted ascended stats, why shouldn’t the WvW crowd be rewarded for their "possessions’ they already have attained. It’s only fair.
Your “legendary” are the titles that are already in place in WvW, those will stay and will be your legacy for being a WvW play through and through. Think of the new ranks system added as the “ascended” class for WvW and now everyone has to start from square one to obtain them.
And as an aside, I think that any legendary that was/is made before ascended weapons are introduced should not be automatically upgraded to ascended and that they should have to do a quest line to have them infused, or some kitten like that, to bring them up to ascended stat (or just transmute them to an ascended weapon). I would call that the price paid for getting PvE end game so quickly. Things change and you have to adapt and deal with previous choices.
This whole thread reminds me of the prodigal son story where one guy goes off and just screws around while the other stays home and works diligently and the screw off comes home and the hard working son gets kitten because the screw off son gets a party and he never got a party even though he’s worked hard all his life.
I don’t care about who has or doesn’t have stealth……just give it a counter so other classes have a defense against it, or make it so that if the person stealthed receives damage the are automatically taken out of stealth.
I mean, if someone comes and stabs you in the chest and then disappears it’s not someone being stealthy, it’s an invisibility spell.
It sounds like our guild would be perfect for you! We’re a smaller guild of Guild Wars veterans (most of us have been around since the beta of GW1) and our focus is team play. We enjoy showing the game to new people and adding new friends to the guild family.
We have people experienced in Dungeons, Fractals, WvW, PvE, and a little of sPvP. We’re a casual guild that is largely on evenings PST time and realize that people have a life outside of game. We’re moving forward with guild missions and daily organized events.
If you want to check us out, see if we would fit what your looking for, or just want to join us for a group to run with just shoot me a message on here, mail me in game, or whisper me in game. You could also message Leon Mousy.6238 or Atreyer.1948.
Our guild name is Comitatus Bellicus De Optimus [CBO]. Hope to see you in game!
I think the problem here is that ArenaNet would say, “Oh, small guilds can do the content! They just might not be the ones starting it.”
Which is true. But that means they also won’t get the (rather nice) rewards.
Anybody have any influence farming tips?
If they said that it would be the same as saying “Oh, you can play this game show on TV, you just won’t be able to get the prize if you win.” since that is the way it is right now.
If they fixed it to where anyone participating in the event gets the rewards, in the guild that activated the mission or not, then there would be no problem:
- the small guilds would have tons of people to help them if they started the mission
- the big guilds wouldn’t have to listen to all these people complaining
- small guilds would actually be able to still recruit people and work towards starting their own missions because you wouldn’t HAVE to be in a large guild to do the missions (and yes, you have to be in a large guild and 100% repping them for the most part since this is not the trend in the majority of large guilds since guild missions)
The only thing I can think of if this were implemented would be that large guilds would complain because they wouldn’t have the bargaining chip of “if you want to leave for a smaller guild fine, but you won’t be able to do the guild missions anymore” or would be saying “they shouldn’t be allowed to get loot off of OUR mission, we worked hard for it and they should just get their own….this is a GUILD mission, not a PUG mission!”
Best thing we can do is not let this subject die. Keep it in peoples face until at least some response is made.
Seems small guilds are able to keep a lot of their players. But they lose any influence points gained by those that chose to join a large guild as well which requires representing 100% of the time. Is it out of the realm of possibilities that all influence earn by any individual be divided equally into all the guilds they are in, regardless of which one they represent.
When a person is in two guilds and is only allowed to rep one guild for fear of being kicked (mega guild dictatorship) the small guild HAS lost that person because:
1) the person no longer sees the guild chat of the smaller guild
2) the small guild no longer gets their influence
3) unless there is voice chat involved, no one really hears from that person again….and then everyone gets forgotten
The multi-guild system is just turning out to be a big mess, it’s just a half kitten alliance format. They should have just used the alliance system from Factions, that way you can be a member of the same group as your friend in guild XYZ but still be able to converse with friends in both XYZ and ABC guilds.
But really, I guess the blame can go equally for the way missions were implemented, the big guilds who demand representation, and the lemmings who have no sense of guild pride and jump ship at the first sign of new shinnies instead of trying to overcome the obstacle that Anet has placed in front of small guilds.
I don’t get why some people think smaller guilds should merge into larger ones for this, or that players should leave what they are otherwise happy with for something they don’t want.
Well then don’t do it if you’re stubborn. But the GMs were designed with a certain goal which was not a party-sized instance like dungeons and fractals, but to create something more unique and open world. If you’re opposed to talking to anyone in game though and joining a bigger guild, then don’t do it. No need to get mad about it, just understand what the content is.
I never see people mad that fractals wasn’t a 128 player dungeon for example… but maybe there could be one some day. The point is there’s new content every month. It’s silly to gripe too much about one type that is clearly working to achieve the aims it was supposed to.
I’m confused, please explain to me, how you know what the designers were thinking when they were conceiving the concept of the guild missions. How do you know that guild missions are achieving the aims they were supposed to? Give me a direct quote from Anet that would prove that.
I’ll give you that they wanted to create something more unique and open world for gameplay, but why should that be limited to big guilds? There are plenty of suggestions in this thread that would allow people not in big guilds to experience the content without having to ignore/leave their own guild.
The one biggest, most overriding, problem with the guild mission is:
The gating of the playable content.
Not everyone plays the same way….make guild missions be “pick your path” where the guild leader chooses the order in which they want to unlock the missions.
Not every guild has hundreds of players….make it so people outside of the guild can get rewards (not necessarily the same rewards) for helping other guilds without having to be in the guild.
The cost to unlock all the missions is a tad bit high, but with time all active guilds would be able to get them all. Larger guilds should be able to unlock stuff faster than smaller guilds, that’s fine since the smaller guilds will eventually, and in a timely manner, be able to access the content they want to.
Guild bounty missions have already gotten boring, now we know what todo we can finish tier 3 of these missions within 5-8 minutes. Can you add harder tiers for higher rewards? tier 3 is far to easy once you learn to track down all of the bosses.
I have a huge guild, 500 people, on a normal mission event over 70 players from just my guild will try to attend but a large group of those players dont get credit for taking part since so many of us are attacking the bosses at once they end up missing out.
Its impossible to run guild missions daily since they cost 2200 to rush each and their will be 5 of them so any fix for this?
Question, if you have such a large guild then the influence costs would be minimal in comparison to the influence you gain ever day? If players are that bored then run them every other day. Plus there will be lots more to do once everything gets unlocked.
The guild earns something like 25k in influence a day. 5 missions x 2200 is pretty much half of that influence spent already.
Then we have magic find and karma upgrades to turn on and then 25k for around 5 wvw upgrades.Fact is even in a large guild having 2 slots for upgrading kills a decent chance of not having to waste alot of influence rushing.
I should have 4 slots at least at this guild size :/
To put it into perspective, to earn enough for 1 rushed mission you need 5 guild members to do 22 dungeons or 110? members to do 1 dungeon to earn enough for one guild mission.
We have people saying the small guilds should just suck it up and join a larger guild or suck it up and deal with the costs of the guild missions…..then we get leaders of mega guilds coming in and complaining that they can’t do the missions whenever they want because the HAVE to have the MF/karma upgrades going, HAVE to have the WvW upgrades going, and then can’t afford to rush the guild missions with the influence they have left.
Hypocrisy at it’s finest.
Firefox’s 2copper:
I believe the smaller guilds have to stop complaining and honestly the leadership has to stop being so bloody prideful. If you accept the idea of banding together and merging with other guilds, you could ALOT accomplish more. What is the point of asking for free gold and a solution to smaller guilds. I am completely pro:guild pride, however you can’t completely overlook the fact that you can’t do EVERYTHING alone. If you wish to play with your group of friends, consider moving as a group into another guild. No one says you have to disband your guild, but if you care ever so much for a name(guild), then roll with a bigger guild and slowly save up gold to buy influence for your other guild? This game was meant to bring people together,it’s not like you go around fighting your server in WvWvW. When you finally think about it, this game is about making friends and working together, isolating yourself in a small guild where you only play with your own group, just reflect on that before you go ranting about how “unfair” it is for smaller guilds. Guild Missions were meant for Organized and guilds with a fair amount of Teamwork and dedication.
How bout this then, since this game is about bringing people together and there shouldn’t be any problem with moving people from a guild as long as they stick together…Move a majority of the player base from each of the larger guilds to the the smaller guilds that are “complaining” so much. This will solve everything:
- it will give the smaller guilds the people they need to get the influence for the missions and ability to actually run them well
- it will allow the transplant members from the larger guild and the members of the smaller guild the chance to make new friends
- the transplants from the larger guild wouldn’t have to leave their guilds, they could still stay in it, but just make sure that they rep the smaller guild otherwise they would be “leeches”…they’d still keep their guild pride by belonging to the guild and would make new friends, a win/win situation.
What I would have done?
You can do a guild mission once per tier per day. So you can do T1, T2, and T3 and all get a commodation on each tier, and then go do another guild mission and get the same tier, or at the very least make it a 2 day recharge, but a week? That is just ridciulous. Triple the current cost of the things from the venders
The week recharge is to give other guilds a chance to find and kill the bounties. It’s already been brought up multiple times where a guild wasn’t able to finish their bounty because another guild, who had the same bounty, killed it already and there wasn’t enough time for the respawn/find/kill the boss again.
And once the smaller guilds have a chance at the missions, then all hell will break loose.
Anet really should had made guild puzzle or guild rush the first mission so that guilds that wanted to zerg through all the missions could spend their influence reserve to do it and the rest of the guilds could have had fun doing the first few missions (and it wouldn’t have required a mega guild to do the mission….making bounties the first guild mission, and making the gate to all guild missions under Art of War, was extremely stupid imo, now that I think about it).
Ok… so we won’t play FFXI. And we’re not playing FFXI. So that’s settled.
We’re not complaining about ‘everything in the game.’ I’ve posted in one topic before this (I wanted to see what others thought of Trahearne, & learned that my own reaction was mild in comparison) This subject worries me, not just because of guild missions, but because of the game’s direction. Given that GW2 didn’t present itself as the heir to WoW or FFXI, I’d rather have a say before they make a shift.
As for playing like the content isn’t there, no. I’m already taking great joy in helping guilds find their targets. If the fight is there, I’ll happily help. But I will also continue to ask for Guild Mission content that my small guild can do.
They aren’t “making a shift”… they’re simply adding some larger group content for guilds to optionally do. They also added a new sPvP map. Should I be disgusted that the focus of this game is on structured PvP? Or would that be ‘blowing it out of proportion’?
A better analogy would be if the new sPvP map they added required 30 or 50 people on each team and that the teams have an average glory rank of …I don’t know, lets say 100,000 (pulling a random number out of my kitten just think of a high number that the majority of sPvP players wouldn’t be near at all).
You can’t compare apples to oranges, so comparing adding an sPvP map to adding content that caters, or is solely meant for, large PvE guilds doesn’t make sense.
I would think that if they had added the map, described above, to sPvP you would hear just as much of an outcry since it would be breaking the theme that Anet had been making (small teams for sPvP, just like content that is doable by small PvE teams, and easy access to all content).
It’s a place holder. They also probably didn’t want it to be unfair throughout the lines, since every other guild mission (except bounties) is tier 6. If the economy guild mission was tier 5, and gated by guild missions in Art of War, you would have even a further outcry by everyone since “if there are two missions in tier 5 all guild missions should be in tier 5!” type of thinking.
Also, just be happy that you are doing the guild missions. Some people won’t be doing them for months, since their guilds have to unlock all of Art of War and don’t have 100,000s of influence stocked up to speed up development or even research.
In less than a week this one thread has 28 pages and almost 1400 posts….all about the new guild missions (not to mention the multiple other threads that are still not merged into this one yet).
I hope people in power are reading this and I hope we get some indication that they are listening, maybe some reasoning behind why these game additions were added as they were.
On topic with the OP request (not talking about crybabies, entitlement, or crap like that):
I have no more trust in Anet at this point. Not saying that it can’t be built again with communication, but at this point, no trust.
I will be dealing with the latest update more in spite, and because I still have good friends playing the game with no other common game to go to, than in actual anticipation.
I’m seeing more and more the changes being implemented as a chore to be done/overcome than something to look forward to. Now this statement is an oversimplification since some changes are good/needed and some are neutral, but the over all feeling I have when all feelings are added up is: chore.
I’ve been with GW since the betas in 2004 and have had fun with it all, up until the last few months. We’ll see if communication starts to happen (not the PR, politician talk that has happened) or if this game will just fade from my game list.

Wow, it is much worse than I thought as well.
I like a challenge, long range goals, and a sense of accomplishment.
But for small guilds everything is locked for a long, if not indefinite, period of time.
The influence cost is one factor.
The fact that it is locked at all is another.
To have it structured such that you must follow a rigid upgrade path is beyond comprehension.“This stacks so you can finish Guild Bounty right away if you have 75 × 4 + 30 = 330 k influence.”
It is waaaay worse than I thought it would be…..even for the mega guilds that have all the influence in the world it’s going to take 9 weeks (at the very least) to unlock all the guild missions….now throw in the small guilds that don’t earn a 20k influence a week and it’s going to take them infinitely longer (exaggeration) to get be able to have access to all the missions.
I was looking forward to having a guild oriented goal/mechanism in the game but now my hopes and dreams have been taken up by Anet and smashed. Guess, in order to not have to wait a year I should just lose myself in a mega guild.
Can’t wait to see how inaccessible they make actual guild halls to small guilds…..here’s a cardboard box, go live in the gutter in the shadow of the 500 member guild’s castle.
Now, correct me if I am wrong on this, but looking at what it costs to gain access to guild missions (assuming starting from nothing and getting all of the tiers required to queue guild missions) Guild Bounties cost nearly HALF of what the guild missions in Politics, Economy, and Architecture cost.
Guild Bounties require only tier 5 of Art of War while all other missions require tier 6, which costs 30,000 influence.
This is kind of kicking a guild when it’s down if the guild was not doing WvW (so they weren’t upgrading Art of War)….why not have Guild Bounty in all trees?
- Someone stole something and now the business asura hire you to get it back —> Economy.
- Someone attempted assassination or is a spy and the Queen is hiring you to get rid of them —> Politics.
- Someone has been destroying the town/village/city buildings and the builders are sick and tired of having to rebuild, so they hire you to get rid of the person —-> Architecture (or the person stole the plans for the new vault/castle remodel/escape tunnels/whatever).
- Someone has been planning an uprising/war against the country and the royalty is hiring you to stop the attack before it starts —-> Art of War.
There’s your ideas, so now people who haven’t invested what influence they have into Art of War don’t have to wait twice as long to play, and enjoy, guild missions as a guild who has invested in Art of War. And plus, what guild that has maxed out Art of War, that isn’t a mega guild, is going to do this “care bear” PvE stuff anyway…they will be out USING the WvW buffs they’ve been using all along because they’re a WvW guild.
So, now that free server transfers are gone, and the first guild mission going to require tier 5 guild upgrades I just wanted to check in and see if there was any thought on having a way to transfer influence from a previous server to current server.
I know that it has been said that it was unknown if it would be changed, quote here , but my guild has transferred twice already (once because the playerbase of the server we were on didn’t fit our personality, and the second time because it was perceived that everyone was leaving the server before free transfers was shut off) and we had tier 4 in both servers with 5 months of work and many tomes of influence from Deluxe and Collector Editions.
I know all this was a choice, but it would be nice to take the rewards of the work we have done and apply them to our current home. Heck, I’d even pony up the cash for it if it went into the cash shop.
I liked my password that I had, it was unique to GW and I knew it…..now I had to make a new one. I am required to change my passwords for work every 6 months and can’t use the last 6 or 10 that I have used (can’t remember which)…there are only so many passwords I can remember between multiple different games, 3-5 email accounts, my voice mail, and many other things.
I would have much rather had an opt out option that had a warning attached to it that would go something like “By not changing your password you acknowledge that you are increasing the risk that you will have unauthorized access to your account which may result in its termination and also absolve Arena Net of all responsibility if this were to happen” and have to have us put our electronic signiture on it.
I would have signed it, I have that much faith in my internet security.
There’s a saying that come to my mind with this: “A lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part”, or in this case, on the part of Anet.
Sucks to be in that position. Maybe you can ask your guildmates/friends to chip in to help buy you a transfer back.
Could be ANet got clued in on that video of 5 elementalists holding back a zerg at a chokepoint and felt that was not how the game should be.
If ANet really want to nerf AOE they need to increase CC effectiveness in PVE roaming considerably, so that whenever you face down 2+ mobs (and that is more often than not) you can keep at least some out them out of the battle while dealing with the rest.
The problem in that video was not aoe, it was the zerg was full of stupid people and the people holding the choke point were actually smart and played tactics well….trust me, I’m part of the dumb kitten server that got their butts handed to them in that video (a bunch of PvE noobs that think they know tactics).
Individual AoE damage isn’t the problem, the problem occurs when 20 players all stack AoEs in the same space. In WvW, there are guilds out there that stack the best AoE classes and can wipe out large groups of players in seconds. This change will make combat in sPvP and WvW far more involved and enjoyable.
There are also guilds that stack players in one spot to take advantage of the only 5 target per AoE damage too. It’s all about tactics. If the tower is aoe heavy, spread out more, if it’s single target heavy, stack up.
I main a staff ele glass cannon. I have 10.5k hp and have to be really good at observing surroundings and dodging in order to not get killed in 2-3 hits in dungeons and FotM. I take all these hits in survivability in order to deal out good damage. Can I 1v1 a target, yes but it takes some time because the majority of my skills are channeling skills or low damage spam skills. What I bring to the party is GROUP SUPPORT in that I make it easier for others to kill.
If they nerf aoe I will be so kittening kitten since that is how I WANT TO PLAY and how I like to play. I don’t want to have to take up a d/d build, I don’t find it as fun. They just better tread very lightly…..
Back up the statements you make. If people are calling for aoe nerfs, cite the sources, link the threads….if it’s a problem because everyone is doing it, post some statistics….don’t just throw this crap out without backing it up since it will have such a huge effect on how a large portion of the player base plays.
Well, any pugs that had a chance of getting into my future dungeon groups just lost a group unless I get really impatient (or don’t have enough guildies online) and even then it’ll be selective. I’ve had enough pugs that have been idiots and I’ve tolerated them because we’ve been able to support them, but no more now….if I have people that aren’t pulling their weight, it’ll be kick and find a new player. Oh, and there will definitely be dungeons that won’t be run because the time spent vs reward received is definitely not going to be worth it.
I’m not going to hold my breath for good re-vamping of the dungeons. For the most part, I’m just sitting back for the next few months and waiting for all these waves to stop shaking the foundation of GW2 gameplay before really getting back into it. It took longer than I would have expected for GW2 to enter its growing pains stage, but it’s finally here.
Do you think it’s unfair that casual players can’t afford the same things that hardcore players can?
When it has no effect on whether or not the casual player can play on even playing ground as the hardcore player, then no, it’s not unfair.
When it comes to the idea that there’s supposed to be no grinding in GW2 it is meant only when referring to gameplay (meaning anything that affects how a player will perform in PvE or PvP), not to “shiny things”.
There will always be “grind” in this game, but it won’t be something that anyone “has to do”. If you want a bell, trade all those ugly clothes in and get the consumable ones, buy a ton of consumable bells off the TP now, spend the cash in order to get the unbreakable one.
Just because you didn’t have the foresight to have extra cash on hand in order to buy a limited time item you wanted isn’t anyone’s fault but yours. And this item will still be on the TP after Wintersday, it’s just that you may not value it enough to pay what it’s worth (evident with someone already mentioning that a specific legendary gift would cost over 50g and therefore they wouldn’t want that utilized as an option to craft the bell).
probably get another random mini, with a chance of it being higher rarity, like when you throw any mini into the forge.
ANet would make more money and having less complains if they introduce another currency besides Gem and Gold.
Gem and Gold can be traded as they are right now. Introducing Diamond currency which can be purchased by real money only (unable to trade by Gem or Gold) then selling rare, unique item skins (legendary precursor, unbreakable bell, rare endless tonic, rare weapons/armors skins)
People who loves gambling can still trade Gem from Gold to play.
People like me that do not like RNG can purchase directly from TP using cash for Diamond to obtain the items.
Introducing Diamond currency will get money directly to ANet and not through 3rd party gold seller (buy gold in black market, convert to gems) which will not benefit ANet.
You would get so many people crying “P2W!!!” if they put in a currency that you can just buy everything with, since many people consider “winning” getting all the cool looking stuff. You can already do that right now too, by using real money to buy gems and selling those gems for gold, and using that gold to buy your legendary ingredients (or legendary itself), your wintersday gifts to open to get the bell, your ToT bags to get endless halloween tonic, etc. Granted it would probably cost you thousands of dollars to get this stuff, but the option is there.
There was a PSA post on gw2 reddit since yesterday about the fact that combining 4 endless tonics does not give the endless toymaker. Moral of the story, if you are not willing to lose what is at risk, do your research first and let someone else find out for you.
And as far as endless tonics, I got the griffin and the golem minis so:
Ventari tonic: 2 tries
Princess tonic: 9 tries
Toy Soldier tonic: 3 tries
The majority of people in the game don’t want it to be skill based, that was evident after the Mad King jumping puzzle after everyone was crying “It’s too hard!”. The jumping puzzle this time is a joke compared to that one.
If they made the unbreakable bell a reward for having perfect scores at the bell game you would hear people yelling about the game being too hard.
Any cosmetic reward in the PvE area, that is linked to true skill, will eventually get watered down until a majority of the player base is satisfied; at least RNG is fair across the board and is easier to water down than to try and alter skill level requirements for obtaining an item that is only cosmetic.
One thing though, they do not get bound once you use them, so if you want one just save up for it cause when others get bored of them they can sell them. None of them will be taken out of the market unless people with them quit or delete them.
Yep, and they’re up on the trading post. All you have to do is search “choir” and it’ll come up as the exotic one.
Anet also said that they are looking into the cost of making and infusing ascended items (with the assumed intention of reducing the cost of making them), thus some people may be anticipating that the future demand for ecto is not going to be as high as it is right now (or are holding off on buying ecto right now as they want to see if Anet changes the way to make ascended gear or the materials needed for it).
Just another stab in the dark with speculation as to why the price has dropped.
Easy way to implement a scavenger hunt.
Quest chain that makes you do whatever, kill stuff here, do stuff there, fight dungeon yada yada. End result of questline = 1 item (lets call it “essence of a legendary weapon”).
That 1 item used in a MF forge recipe. Rest of the recipe is something like. 250 T6 A-weapon component (ie: ori gs blades) + 250 T6 B-weapon component + 250 Glob of ectoplasm. This would guarantee the cost of the precusor still having a substantial base gold cost associated with it, as well as stablize the marketplace (create demand) for basic T6 materials (ori bar prices for example have fallen from 7s80c a few weeks ago to barely 6s now) The price would be somewhat reasonable too (~150gold for this stuff)
Why not have the scavenger hunt not use gold and instead require multiple events completed, dungeon tokens/gifts/etc….something that would send you all over the world of Tyria instead of something that you could just buy off of the trading post.
If you included T6 mats or any crafting material (or anything that you can buy on the TP for that matter) in any recipe to craft a precursor the price of those items would just continue to rise until we were back at the price where they are now (insanely high) and would also make it much harder to craft other items for a reasonable price since the price of the mats is increased.
I tried to do the largos event this morning before phase 2 started and it was still bugged. I read the post about what would be needed to progress to phase 2 and had all those done, but I’m still pissed that this stuff wasn’t working from the instant that it was implemented.
I really want to know if I should keep the event items I do have or are they totally useless now.
I’m trying the fine crafting material promotion right now and it won’t accept the recipe….
