While fun to daydream about, understand that ANet’s not really into doing vast amounts of work for very little pay off – introducing even 1 new weapon type requires dozens (plural) of new models to fill in the many, many weapon sets with that new weapon. If that’s too much work when a new weapon could potentially be used by 4-6 classes (maybe more as Elite Specs continue to arrive) it’s way, way, WAY too much work to only benefit a single profession .

Necromancer: Scythe
Elementalist: Orb
Guardian: Tome
Engineer could have a slingshot .
Thief: Hand claws
Ranger: Whip
Revenant: Cestus
Mesmer: floating Cards/Talismans

The only two on your list that would be difficult to implement would be mesmer and ranger.

Necromancer: Scythe (there is a scythe skin for staff already)
Elementalist: Orb (anomaly is a [focus?] skin that is basically an orb)
Guardian: Tome (guardians already had a elite that dealt with tomes, though the work to have it on their person would add more time since it was floating with the skill)
Engineer could have a slingshot (Engineers can already have a slingshot, there is a toy sling shot skin for pistol)
Thief: Hand claws (add some blade extension on some of the gloves and use dagger animations)

Revenant: Cestus (Cestus is a “battle gauntlet” so basically just a different skin for gloves)

New NPCs Using Existing PC Names

I don’t think they would do anything, if you had it first you get to keep it. My name in GW1, which I’ve had since launch of GW1, was turned into a title and I still retain it to this day.

Now, a title isn’t the same as an NPC name, but I’m sure what you are getting at is “will they take mine away because they want to use it and don’t want anyone else to have it?” which I think my situation is within that realm of concern.

the original streamer upon hearing that ANet was going to do something begged them not to on stream because it would mess up too many people who like compact right were it is. We are talking within a minute upon hearing second handed what Rubi just finish saying in Guild Chat. The streamer didn’t think that her “passive aggressive rant” about something that’s been in game since launch would rally ANet to action. It was only highlighted and uploaded to YouTube because her followers thought it was funny and wanted a persistent copy of it, because Twitch purges.

If that is really true, then peachy should upload a video of her asking Anet to not make the change, or at least make a reddit thread or post here in the forums.

The problem with this change is three-fold.

1) it will mess up a large portion of the player base in their use of the drop down menu because of pure muscle memory

2) it is absolutely not necessary and only being done because of personal preference of a select group of people

3) and this is the biggest……. It was only addressed after a “famous” streamer ranted on her GW2 stream.

As many have said, this issue was brought up before but Anet did not think it was worth doing anything about, but along comes a streamer with connections to Anet who doesn’t like the way things are and Anet jumps at the idea to change the issue that she rants about.

it doesn’t matter how easy the fix is, it matters how quick of a response it got and how public the response was.

If Anet had this public of a response with all of their fixes and plans this wouldn’t be an issue, but it was the perception of special treatment that makes this simple change such a big deal

The only issue I have with them changing it, other than my muscle memory will eff me over for the next few months when trying to clear my inventory, was the near immediate action Anet took when one of the “famous” streamers threw a hissy fit over something that minor.

Anything I don’t want out of order I have either lined up at the top of my bags, or at the bottom in my invisible bag.

Why in the world would you have things you don’t want moved out in the middle of your inventory. To me, it just seems logical to have stationary things at the top or bottom of the inventory (since if it is anywhere but there any resizing of the window will move its position anyway since it changes the number of slots per row).

There’s my rant, now do something about it (or do I need to record it and post it on youtube?)

Been almost 10 hours, tried 3 different characters to log in and continue to get “network error” with code=1083:5:7:1595:101 when trying to lode the first map from the character selection screen.

Trying to get a little play time in before work today, but guess it’ll have to wait until after work.

If this isn’t resolved by 24 hours after it started I’ll honestly be very disappointed. Maybe just role back whatever patches were put out yesterday and then test this stuff internally before it gets released.

With the up coming release of HoT, and the turbulence that the economy is going to go through soon, it would be nice to find discussions on the economy….even if only until the economy stabilizes.

All in all though, I’m just looking forward to the ride.

They’re “allowed” because they facilitate the the gold sink that is the trading post and everything is done with consent from both sides of the party.

If you want to stop trading post flippers then don’t sell to buy orders and only post sell orders…..simple as that. If no one sells to buy orders then flippers can’t flip.

BUT people like instant gratification so they take a hit in potential profit to have the money now and other people take advantage of this desire for immediate cash to make money investing time into the sale.

That would probably also bring the overall crafting cost of ascended armor down a notch. Considering its supposed to be a long term goal, I am not sure, if that is intended by Anet.

It may bring the overall price down some, more so immediately after the change, but it would stabilize at a more normalized price between all of them instead of the 3/1/2 pricing that is light/medium/heavy armor now.

medium and light armors are exact opposites with 18 damask and 6 elonian for light and 6 damask and 18 elonian for medium.

Make it 12 and 12 for each, then the current price for both would be around 246g instead of the 327g for light and 165g for medium. Oh, and right now heavy is 199g and only requires 23 total ascended mats (7 damask and 16 deldrimor), so add another damask onto heavy and then they would be around the same prices, or just leave it off since heavies tend to have more weapons to use than light and medium professions.

I would imagine if the change were made that light and medium would settle somewhere around the 200g area for price and heavy would be around 180g, once the price of damask and elonian leather stabilize. But this is just a wild guess on price on my part.

I already corrected your numbers on the other thread.

If you are making up imbalanced prices, they will be imbalanced. Not because there is something wrong with silk but because you made them up that way.

I forgot to clarify in my other post. I did it in the other thread, but i’ll repost here.

Fixed for you, as you forgot to consider the damask for the insignias.

Thats light armor only around 35% more expensive than medium and that percentage would go even lower, if we consider all the other mats because they would add value equally to all three weights……..

You are correct, I didn’t include the price of the insignias, but the insignias are common across all crafting disciplines so shouldn’t be considered because they just buffer the actual difference between light/medium/heavy armor.

I boiled it down to the actual differences between armors and didn’t pad the prices with something that is common between all armors.

If you want to look at insignias in the crafting of armor, then perhaps the insignias should be changed too. Have cloth insignias for light armor, leather insignias for medium, and metal for heavy.

Now, before ppl blow up at this, listen. There would be a huge upset in the price of materials to start with but it would stabilizes relatively quickly. Damask price would shoot down (it’s not being fed into all crafting disciplines as much) and elonian and deldrimor would go up.

To me, that’s just too complicated, so that’s why I didn’t consider the aspects that are common across all armor weights and only focused on the differences in the crafting process.

Damask

And then there is the massiv difference in cost between different armor types.
A light armor set cost more than twice of a medium armor set in ascended materials.

…Does it really? I made my light ascended armor back in July, and here are the numbers I used:

Light
393damask+12leather= 405g

Medium
262damask+40leather= 302g

Heavy
273damask+56steel= 329g

While I agree that light armor shouldn’t cost so much more, let’s not overstate the case.

It’s possible the numbers have changed since then, or that someone could get different numbers depending on what mix of buy order / sell order / craft they use to calculate values, but I won’t believe it’s double unless someone can show me their numbers.

As of right now (rounding to the nearest number for price of mats), the cost of ascended armor with just ascended mats is:

Light
(36 bolts of damask x 17g each) + (6 elonian leather x 3.5g each) = 633g

Medium
(24 bolts of damask x 17g each) + (18 elonian leather x 3.5g each) = 471g

Heavy
(25 bolts of damask x 17g each) + (16 deldrimor steel x 5g each) = 505g

Prices for mats were taken off GW2 wiki under the “trading post” section of the mat summary on the right upper part of the mat page.

So, really, light armor does cost twice as much as medium armor (right now, only considering price of ascended mats).

Leave silk where it’s at.

Change the number of damask you need to make light and medium armor to be more in line with heavy armor, then substitute in elonian leather for whatever damask was taken away from the crafting requirement of light and medium armor.

Price problem solved for ascended armor and then it increases demand for leather, which T5 leather is still at the lowest possible price it can be (not vendor price since Anet doesn’t let it be sold on the TP for vendor price because people would get less than vendor price in profit with taxes).

There. Done. No need to discuss anything else because prices would be similar between all weights of armor.

(and the more weapons for certain professions argument, just start giving more weapon choices to the professions that have less, then everyone is happy….plus, who uses all weapons a profession has to offer anyway, everyone has their favorites and usually sticks with them)

Not going to be per-purchasing because I don’t know jack about what I’m going to be getting and price is too high.

I understand their marketing decision of giving the base game for free with the expansion, but it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth that there isn’t an option to get the expansion without the base game for a better value. I don’t want the base game, already have it, and can’t even use it with the way the “bonus” is set up so for me it’s not a bonus.

There is a post in GW2 reddit about an Anet employee confirming that magic find has no effect on portal drop rate (has screen shots of the statement by employee with anet symbol up).

there was also a comment by a player in the same screen shot that stated that the chests in SW don’t drop portals and this was not refuted by the employee in the screen shots provided.

Thought that this information would be relevant for this thread since it seems like the portal drop is purely RNG based and not influenced by any modifying factors.

Why is silk going up in price?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Guardian Of Tyria.6397

An interesting question came up in the other thread:

If any ascended armor set, regardless of weight, would cost the same, would people still argue that the silk price is too high?
If you add the value of 1 each deldrimor, elonian and damask, it costs about 20g. So if every mat would cost 6.66g and the sets use 42 t7 mats overall to craft, would people still complain about silk?

I would be fine with that.

Edit: That would mean 1 set would cost about 350g and weapons would be 10-20g more expensive.

This (the price disparity of light, medium, and heavy ascended armor) is what people are upset about, not the price of silk since the only real major use for silk right now (and the reason most people want it) is because of Damask and Ascended armor.

Don’t increase supply of silk, don’t make Damask take less silk to make…….

Make all armor classes use the ascended mats in equal proportions so there is less price disparity

I really hope season 3 doesn’t come.
It’s just a way for Anet to “buy time” when there’s no contents delivered.
Also tournament do way more cons than pros, plus, it’s 0 content anyway.

That’s why I feel that we’re in for another tourney soon, since they have not indicated a release date for HoT, the LS ended where HoT will pick up, and they really don’t have much else they can fill the time void with other than a 6 week WvW tourney (Like they would actually surprise us with SAB…..yea right >.> )

Basically, they need filler content, so you will probably get a lower cost server transfer before HoT because they will likely use WvW tourney for a filler content until HoT release.

I really don’t see how people can be defending keeping the requirements for crafting light ascended armor the way that it is right now.

having twice the material costs for crafting spool of silk thread as any other ascended mat is ridiculous now that the glut of silk is off the market.

How bout this………

Cut the Damask requirement for light armor in half, replace what Damask was taken out with Elonian leather, and then add more Damask into the recipes of the medium and heavy armor.

Silk doesn’t need to be changed at all, just balance out Damask requirements between Light, Medium, and Heavy armors.

See how many Heavy and Medium armor users like that.

The real answer is don’t buy them. They’re not a rip off because they’re absolutely not necessary. If you want to spend money gambling, you make the assumption that you’re going to lose. It really is that simple.

By making it so that everyone wants needs to buy them, Anet would be doing a disservice to people who don’t want to.

As it is, plenty of people do buy them.

Problem is some skins costing 900g alone, far more than a precursor itself and it only gets worse. Imagine paying 900+ gold for a skin, that’s outrageous when that can go down as 80% of the cost to make a legendary yourself that is ascended, with infusion slots and can switch stats at will.

Something needs to give with making black lion claim tickets more accessible.

I’m looking at the Dreamthistle Staff skin for my ranger. I had gotten all the relevant dreamthistle skins for my ranger when the skins only cost 1 ticket, but now they announce a druid specialization, and I find out there’s only 5 skins on trading post and the lowest is 800 godkitten ed gold.

Assuming that in 2-3 hours of playtime I make about 15 gold AT BEST doing the activities I like, not just farming, that means I’d be looking at nearly two months of farming just for one skin.

If you want it bad enough, you will get it, if you don’t want it bad enough you’ll just forget about it. If you want it bad enough you’ll speed run dungeons and get it in a month or so, if not you’ll keep playing and get it in a couple of months or not at all. Games don’t always have to be about instant gratification, work a little bit for your goal. The Dreamthistle stuff is only as pricey as it is because of simple supply and demand, same as all the SAB stuff (which, by the way, aren’t in BLCs).

As for the OP:

The stuff in the BLC aren’t useless, you just don’t put any value to them. I don’t mind the boosters since they can give me extra run speed and more magic find/karma gained (especially with the powder to convert the boosters to other ones).

Just because you wasted money on keys trying to get a ticket doesn’t mean the items in the chest are useless.

Advice for you…..just buy the skins off the TP if that is what you want, you’ll save lots of money.

well, as a player I’m tired of anet being such a tease….and that is what’s happening, dangling a sample of what we want to see just so we stick around just a little longer so we potentially spend more gems, then just as we get fed up they give us another small peak to start the whole thing over.

I took a 6 month break from gw2, played other games and occasionally logging in to check the tp, and came back and finished everything beyond chapter 1 in about a weekend’s worth of play. I am bordering on boredom again but don’t want to play a different game.

whether the “expansion” content is released in a box, digitally, through living story or whatever they just need to release it in a lump to give us something to do we also need much much more land to explore, even if the living story doesn’t use the area right away just release it anyway and let us wander.

I don’t see why people even argue about this….both sides are right.

Yes, almost any build is viable in GW2 in that you can go most places and be able to kill stuff. Does that mean you will see most any build? No. Why? Because there are only a few optimal builds with maybe a few other iterations and majority seem to rely on DPS (power and precision stats). You can add in a bunch of other little things like consumable buffs and a few utility skills to keep you from dying, but majority of the build will rely on how much damage you can put out in a short amount of time.

This is excluding PvP and WvW where condition builds may work well.

How often are you going to be looking for a support ele, support guard, tank engi, tank ele, condi ranger, condi necro for pve content. Try rolling a water support ele.

And also, GW1 had a much larger variety of optimal builds because they had a lot more variety of combat scenarios than GW2 does. Only in the most recent release, while playing to try to get the achievements, does the combat diversity come close to GW1 standards and build diversity come into play. Why? Because you just don’t whack away at the enemy and have multiple different types of hazards that you have to deal with.

TLDR;

GW2: many many viable builds, very few optimal builds and most revolve around how fast you can dps the mob

GW1 had many more optimal builds because it had a larger diversity of battle conditions/scenarios

They could have released the map for the whole of LS2 and kept the story line on the 2 week timer and everything would have been just fine….people still get their events on the 2 week timer but you also have things to do inbetween with exploring, new meta chains, new world bosses, etc.

LS1 started out with the release of the game, TONS of zones to explore and things to discover, then the LS1 episodes brought new meaning to these zones, bringing us back to them to enjoy them in new ways.

If they keep releasing these tiny zones in 2 week chunks there is not going to be any reason to come back to them because everyone will have beaten the zone like a dead horse so much they won’t want to come back.

We all know that more is to come, that is a given, so please don’t argue that “this isn’t the only zone that we will get” cause that isn’t what people take issue with….what they take issue with is being locked out of content so Anet can make is seem like we are getting a lot by stringing it out over a long period of time and saying “more to come”.

I expected the living seasons to be the equivalent of expansions, but I guess I was wrong. Instead of a chest of toys we have to be satisfied with playing the ball in cup game for two weeks before we can move on to the next toy.

I’m just tired and frustrated to be allocated to doing the same things I have been doing in game for the last 2 years. Give me new space to explore that will keep me busy for more that an afternoon.

You people rush your content too much. It’s like complaining that you beat a Sonic game in one day.

It took 3 hours to get 95% of the AP that is not rushing content at all. This was the most pathetic Living Story and for it being the start of Season 2 its hilarious. GG wait 2 weeks relog.

I think you’re in the minority with that opinion.

Don’t get me wrong the zone is awesome and I love it but the little amount of stuff you can truly do there that you can’t do elsewhere for either more money or more enjoyment is quite sad. And 3 hours for content that is supposed to last 2 weeks especially it being the first of Season 2 is down right pathetic like I said. I am not in the minority go look at reddit or other forums people are raging at the lack of content.

….Because it’s just the beginning of the season 2 maybe? I wasn’t even expecting a new zone tbh. Just be happy with what you have for once and play something else in the mean time.

Except that having content so hyped and having it last for less then a day when no patch or update for two weeks. This is unacceptable there is no defending this. Though I guess I should be used to being let down by Arenanet.

This is literally no different than the rest of the LS releases. See you in two weeks.

Many living story releases kept you busy for the whole 2 weeks, or at least 2 weekends, where as this one hardly kept people busy for 4 hours. Sorry to say that this release, given the advertising and the lack of significant brand new stuff for the last few months (repeat of zephyrites and Queen’s gauntlet, WvW season, and even back to the “battle for lion’s arch: aftermath” back in mid march), fell short of many people’s expectations. (Also, many people couldn’t even play the main story line because it was bugged and wouldn’t send the mail or let people purchase it from the store so all they could do is wander around the new zone)

You probably won’t see as many of those people posting on the forums because they are the ones who came back from other games, hoping for something to come back to, and didn’t find it so they go back to the other games.

I only pray that they don’t feed us all the areas in as small of chunks as Dry Top. If that’s the case I probably will only be logging on to check out if there is any gold to be made on the TP with the releases and to maybe do some WvW; I’ll save all the new areas up so that I can actually enjoy them with some substance….though that would probably mean not playing until fall if they do continue with only releasing micro-zones.

Dry Top is basically a jumping puzzle zone with some events where people can grind out geodes to spend on new keys and recipes. That’s what we get for the next two weeks.

Mystic forge stones and the forge

OP, I did exactly what you are thinking of doing and, with about 20 tries or so I got two underwater precursors and Tooth of Frostfang, which I sold for about 400-450g. I’ve since stopped doing this because I’m getting low on stones and like them for mystic kits (and would rather look for a specific precursor using dungeon exotics).

If you have lots of stones, have extra gold laying around, are bored and wanna see what comes up I’d definitely recommend giving it a try.

Looking for event farming guild

I’m getting back into farming again and have taken up farming the trash mobs at events where there are lots of trash mob spawns (pre events for grenth, melandru, and arah in Cursed Shore are my main ones) and I’m looking for a guild of people to group up with for events like these.

I usually guest to two different servers to maximize the amount of time I can spend in events instead of just waiting.

My home server is Tarnished Coast, so it would be nice to have a guild that is on TC, but since I guest servers too it is not absolutely necessary.

My play times are mostly Friday through Sunday evenings (around 9pm to around 2am) in the Central time zone of the US. I do also play during the day some on Mondays (usually around 10am until around 2pm if I get on). Work and family don’t really give me a chance to get on during the rest of the week.

I you have, or know of, a good guild that would suit what I’m looking for please send me a message on the forums here or mail in game.

Thanks!

Watchwork Pick: Why No Response?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Guardian Of Tyria.6397

The pick gives the person who bought it an advantage over someone who bought an earlier gem store unlimited pick (getting extra income from mining).

Having an advantage over others in something makes it more likely that you will be more successful than them….i.e. you will be winning when compared to them.

Anyone who did not buy the an earlier gem store pick (molten or bone) and did not buy the watchwork one doesn’t have much to complain about because they had the option to buy it. It still gives an advantage over non-gem store picks, but they had nothing to lose with buying it.

Anyone who DID buy one of the earlier gem store picks (molten or bone) DOES have something to complain about since the watchwork pick gives a clear advantage over earlier gem store picks (earlier picks gave only ore, watchwork pick gives ore + extra stuff) and if they would have bought it their old purchase (molten or bone pick) would have been obsolete/worthless.

If they would have/will allow an exchange (or even an upgrade for a couple hundred gems) from one version of pick to another, or to add the new functionality of the watchwork pick to an old pick (spend a couple hundred gems to make your molten/bone pick get bonus sprockets with mining nodes), then they wouldn’t alienate their old customers.

Oh, and as far as selling the gems for gold vs buying the pick:

Last I checked sprockets were 80c each (68c profit after TP tax) and gems were converting to 6g per 100. So, you would be in the black after selling 8850 sprockets at 80c each. If you take the approximate 20% chance of getting sprockets with mining you would have to of mined around 44250 individual pieces of ore (not nodes) to get the 8850 sprockets.

But in all honesty if feels like a kick in the nuts or a back handed slap to the face, more than anything else, to anyone that supported Anet through purchasing the molten alliance pick or bone pick.

Don't Make Precursors Craftable

Do you really think that farming mobs and bosses for a random drop (precursor) is challenging? I do that with a blindfold.

Fixed it for you.

I want some challenge in the game! Some of you said that the hardest part of obtaining a legendary is obtaining a precursor. There you go! Challenge accepted!

See corrected statement above. And the “hardest part of obtaining a legendary is obtaining the precursor” is only because they cost so much gold, whether it is in the form of rare/exotics going into the mystic forge or buying strait out on the TP, not because there is any Challenge in getting one.

If ANet makes precursors craftable, believe me, it will come down to being Farmsville, not GW2. Do you really think that farming fractals and bosses for ascended mats is challenging? I do that with a blindfold. I know that exactly after a certain number of runs or days I will craft the ascended item.

I can do the same for precursor right now through dungeons and the gold I can get from them. I know that after an approximate number of dungeon runs I will be able to buy my precursor.

Guild Craft 2 ain’t challenging, and in the long run, fun. I tell you, if precursors become craftable, every 10-year-old will walk around with an Eternity. It’s the certainty that’s boring, for goodness sake!

Everyone is already running around with legendaries, so much so that I don’t even pay a second look to them other than “Man! That guy with the Dreamer is really annoying with the unicorns.” Precursors/legendaries have no prestige, given enough real money you can buy one or buy nearly all the components to get one.

Does anyone hear me? Anyone?

Yes. Do you hear everyone else?

re releasing dye packs makes everyone unhappy

After F&F dye first release Pyre Dye barely made it to 100g.
After F&F dye second release, which was shorter than its first release, Pyre Dye made it to barely under 200g.

F&F dye has now been released for an even shorter time than the last release (its second release) and I am not concerned about the price tanking. The only reason it plummeted so fast was because of knee-jerk sellers ("Oh No! The dye is back in the TP so I have to sell right now before it crashes!) and people that got dyes they didn’t want from the packs.

The amount of dyes that will be put onto the market in 3 days will be miniscule compared to the number of dyes that were put out there before (I think a month for the first release and 2 weeks for the second).

I’m hanging on to mine. Still a solid investment IMO.

Mystic forging for precursors

Had 150 some mystic forge stones (from achievement chests), decided to try the MF (got bored with the rest of the game) and bought 21 of the cheapest exotic weapons out of which (3 exotics and one forge stone) I got Rage and Tooth of Frostfang. Next 21 exotics I got nothing, then the next day I did 27 exotics and got the precursor for the spear (total spent around 85g and sold everything for around 600g net). So I got those from around 30 forges.

It’s pure RNG, but personally I would rather be guaranteed to get an exotic out of a forge (and then try to hit the % chance for a precursor) rather than have to hit the % chance to get an exotic and then have to hit the % chance to get a precursor on top of that. I used lvl 80 exotics too.

Where do you get dragonite ore now?

in Crafting

Guardian Of Tyria.6397

I thought I would try to farm some dragonite ore this weekend to finish an ascended weapon, but the supply seems to have dried up. The temple events are rarely done anymore on my server (Tarnished Coast), and low level events like the Champion Svanir Shaman Chief don’t seem to drop any dragonite anymore. That leaves dragons on very long timers.

Any suggestions?

Many people in TC are finishing up their WvW meta achievements this week, so next week you’ll probably see much more activity with temples and whatnot (Wintersday content will be easy to get through quickly). Plus, a lot of TCs temple events have been bugged (most were bugged about 2 weeks ago and, last I checked, dwayna was still bugged).

I’m on TC and I used to do temples quite a bit, but took time to finish my WvW meta and now am doing fractals some (living story stuff is a big pull).

I’ve seen thieves take deadeye down in a matter of 10 seconds, take 5 seconds to get it set up again, and then roll him in 10 seconds again and all with 4 or 5 gambits on (granted this was before the nerf, though the farm continues with less gambits)….I can definitely believe that some have made 1k+ gold from this if they jumped on early and hit it hard.

I just wish they would have put in a quicker hitting, quicker refreshing DR system into the gauntlet so that you couldn’t speed farm the same person….it’s just too much profit for the time and effort expended (nothing in the game has been as profitable and not been an exploit….if they leave this alone I hope they put something in game in the future that my ele can farm like this lol).

Except if you leave it in the pick up part of the TP it doesn’t take up inventory space, so it wouldn’t matter if you have 10 stacks or 500 stacks. Plus, you won’t be sitting on this stuff for that long…you’ll either use it to get the supply boxes yourself or sell it. It’s not meant for a long term investment.

If you do this, you cannot pick up anything else from the TP until you decide to commit the inventory space, effectively gutting 100% of any other investments you could’ve made in the time period. I am a bad TP investor and make at least five times the net gain I presented above whenever I do some investing, and none of that profit earned ever puts a total stop to my picking up things from the TP.

Actually, already on this bubble my current investments have about 30x the ROI I presented above with thick leather sections. Already my inventory space has done more work for me than it could with thick leather.

Eh, I just have a different style of trading it sounds like. I don’t do it every day, I don’t find micromanaging the TP fun, but I do take advantage of events and limited time items. Normally I’m behind the curve when it comes to the items used in events (with work and everything) but this time I was able to snag some of the items.

My investments are typically items I sit on for a while while I’m doing WvW, PvE, or real life stuff….like Halloween items, F&F dye, and other consumables. I typically deal in items that are in the gold for price, not copper, so I’m fine locking up the TP for a bit cause I don’t use it all that much.

If something else pops up on this event I’ll either dump some of the leather/silk or store it on my mules (since I only really play 3 characters and have 11 slots).

But that’s just my style. Not the most “efficient” but works good enough for me.

I was buying stacks for 20 silver at the 8c price… if i sell a stack for 9 c its 20 silver after the TP cut.

Stack bought for 8c each: 20s
Stack listed for 9c each: 1s listing fee
Stack sold for 9c each: 22.5s
Stack TP fee for 9c each: 2.25s
Value earned at 9c each: 19.25s
Profit: -0.75s

The best part about this is that if you manage to sell these at some point in the bubble for double the value you bought them for, you make a whopping…

Stack bought for 8c each: 20s
Stack listed for 16c each: 2s listing fee
Stack sold for 16c each: 40s
Stack TP fee for 16c each: 4s
Value earned at 16c each: 34s
Profit: 14s

14 silver per stack. Let’s assume you fill an entire 20 slotter with these and manage to actually sell 5000 of the items at twice their old value… With those assumptions, you make… 2.8g. You have used 20 inventory spaces of investment space for 2.8g of profit.

Come on. Even bad TP investors make like 10x that with the same inventory space. The worst part of this is the sell stage of this bubble is going to probably cut off way before it ever reaches 16c in value per section… And what’s worse is that you’re going to have to actually have people willing to buy thousands of the things to make you your profit. This is bad business, don’t get sucked in.

People are dumb. Even at 8c, 250 thick leather sections are less cost effective than 50 mithril ore (at 38c) or 30 cotton scraps (at 66c).

I think the thing was (saying was because both silk and thick leather are more than 8c each now) that thick leather and silk were only 1c above the merchant price and the majority of people are probably trying to make some money with very little risk of loss (having to sell at 11c to break even/be slightly above even).

I was buying stacks for 20 silver at the 8c price… if i sell a stack for 9 c its 20 silver after the TP cut.

TP has a 15% total cut, some of it is taken up front when you post an item, and some is taken when it’s sold.

9c*250 = 22.5 silver

22.5 silver – 3.375 silver (15% of 22.5) = 19.125 silver (call it 19s12c cause the TP probably rounds down)

now do the same thing at 11c each and you get 23.375 (roughly 23s37c)

for 10c it would be 21.25 or 21s25c

So I guess I was wrong, you’d need to sell at 10c each to break even.

I’ve just given up on ascended accessories, the time/effort is not worth the reward. If I’m on and join in a random guild mission, fine, I’ll get the commendations, but I’ve lost any interest in getting full ascended…it’s not worth it.

Like already said, it’s just a huge time sink to keep people busy in between the little events while they work on the next big addition.

For the first few years that I played City of Heroes nothing dropped anything and I still played the game.

Because I was there for the game.

Not the shinies.

Ya’ll are a bunch of Skritt sometimes…

Were you done leveling your main character in the first 1-2 weeks of the game’s release? Did you have them geared out within the first month? How many expansions did they already have out?

The short term goal of GW2 is decking out your character, the long term PvE goal, for the most part, is money….anything other than that, in PvE, is just running in circles until new content is released (not that there’s anything wrong with doing circles, if you enjoy it more power to ya). For people that still look for some linear progression, money is the key in GW2 since the linear progression in GW2 is fashion which costs gold.

2. Did I say that you should get a legendary in a day? No. Stop exaggerating.

What is your definition of long term? A year? Two years? Five? I’ve been playing since release, have probably somewhere around 1600 hours in, and have 220g in liquid assets and if I sold everything else I’d probably have around 1500g, still not enough to get a legendary (and I can guarantee you that I’m not the majority of the players).

1500 is pretty friggin close. I’ve been playing it a lot, but I could probably never go for a legendary, because there will always be a new pet in the store that I want, or some other item that looks cool, so I’ll just spend it. Other that that I did manage to get cultural tier 3 and can make around 2 to 8G a day (depending on how long I want to play), meaning that getting a legendary at my best would take me only over 200 days or so if I put my mind on it.

Can and do are two totally different things. Can/do you make 2-8 gold without farming? Can/do you make 2-8 gold with casual play (just running around the open world doing events and killing random mobs, not running cof1 multiple times). Is this rate of gold acquisition extrapolated to the whole game?

Title of the thread is “Point of adds with no loot?”, I think the point is clear: to decrease the amount of drops/silver that player characters get (whether bot or person). There is no other reason. More effort for less reward.

It’s grind is just different. The old grind is level/gear grind, GW2 grind is “shiny” grind, meaning all the flashy, rare stuff that is hard to get but gives no/minimal benefit/edge.

There is a big disparity between the effort needed to level up a character to 80 and gear them in full exotics, you could do this in a week easily if you really wanted to, and getting a legendary weapon or one of the mystic forge recipe exotic weapons.

So if you just want to play the content, there is minimal grind to GW2, but if you want to look cool/fancy/shiny then there is A LOT of grind.

1. Legendary is not the only cool and fancy skin out there
2. It’s a long term goal. You can’t get it in a day.

1. I know, that’s why I also quoted MF recipe skins, which can cost upwards of 200-800gs to make (look at any recipe that needs charged lodestones), or if you want to craft any of the halloween items, or get the greatsaw sword, or whatever. Sure, there are other items out there that look cool and don’t cost 100s of gold, but that’s not the point. The point is that this stuff is the “end game” of the cosmetic part of GW2 and there is a large gap of time/effort between exotics and this stuff, Anet has acknowledged that themselves and they are starting to try and fix it with ascended, but ascended items don’t have any cool effects yet.

2. Did I say that you should get a legendary in a day? No. Stop exaggerating.

I would expect Anet to drop an expansion between 1-2 years after the game’s release, and I would set that as the goal for a dedicated player to obtain a legendary (dedicated meaning 1500 to 2500 hours of non-farming playing, that’d be about 2-3 hours every day)

you realize this is the current king of grinding MMOs each patch they nerf rewards so you have to grind more to get anything unless you play with your wallet or spreadsheet the TP

nope, sorry, 6 level 80 alts in full exotics, one character can be easily leveled in 7 days, geared out in 2 days (unless you want ascendeds) and I didn’t need to grind for any of it. If you think that this is the grindiest MMO ever I think that this is the only MMO you ever played.

It’s grind is just different. The old grind is level/gear grind, GW2 grind is “shiny” grind, meaning all the flashy, rare stuff that is hard to get but gives no/minimal benefit/edge.
