How long have you been away? Anet has made a mess of things in the last 9 months.
Level: 48 , Traits: Nil.
This was asked before, then they made the changes, and our suggestions were as always ignored.
… thought they had gone. Sorry, I should have looked further!
Yargesh – just want to do something different. I’ve run flame, nade, bomb on 3 Engineers now :/
Wow Turrets die really fast. In Metrica and a regular Inquest tech killed one with 2 strikes.

We have no profession forums anymore so I have to put this here.
I have 2 Engineers at 80, and one I had but deleted. I am currently playtrying the latest changes on an Engineer and was looking for an effective solo build that isn’t all kit based.
Problem is, I find the regular weapons to be… near useless, lacking in power and utility. Has anyone found an solo build that is effective against both single targets and multis?
Thanks.
Its like the Golem Uprising of 1284 all over again!
Well, without the screaming and blood anyway.
Progress on my new character (which I am actually sort of enjoying…)
Level 39 : Traits 0
^
It’s a trap door leading to a new Meta Boss. The Uncleaned Litter Box Boss. To defeat it you will need to throw toilet paper at it. After defeating it a chest will spawn. Unfortunately, the rewards for defeating it are ummmmm, not so good.
New Elite Skill Announced: Rubber Plunger!
Obtained by killing 2 Uncleaned Litter Box minions and throwing them into the Mystic Toilet
If your daughter gets the World Boss daily as an option it will be changed to something level appropriate.
I got CoJ on my new Level 35 character. Sure I have 80s on this account but I want to play… y’know… my way with my character of choice.
This, and the 80s swarming starter zones, are my only issues here.
I want speculation! Logic is not an option! :p
I think it’s possibly a trap door to hide the bodies of people who are too serious.
Hmm, speculation. Why would a panel on the floor in a random part of Black Citadel have any item/interactable description at all?
Wild speculation goes here!
To me, the idea of rubbing a head of corn takes this game waaay into Mature category :o How could they do such a thing?!
I swear the complaints on this forum get wierder and wierder…
No offense intended, but if your wife can’t handle a few minutes of frustration, then MMOs are not for her.
There is a difference between frustration at game mechanics, and the elation of finally overcoming those mechanics… and seeing something which is caused by other players and is completely impossible to overcome. It is out of your control.
I just keep coming back to it’s only for achievements. That’s it. If you don’t care about achievements, it shouldn’t matter at all. If you do care about them, it matters in the positive way. There’s no way you could have gotten 10 achievement points before without going much further out of your way.
I don’t care about ach pts. The daily login for free laurels, I love that bit. But there is something else which makes daily completion valuable…
Being able to get rid of that bloody purple text in the right of the window :p If they gave us an option to make that invisible, any complaints I have about the new daily system would amount to nought.
I agree with pretty much everything Guhracie has said. In fact, I am willing to admit that I am okay (if not happy) with most of the changes that have been made.
Megaservers – I would have no issue with this if I could choose a shard from a list AND/OR racial cities were server only, with or without guesting allowed. I remember when guesting was brought in, and I spoke to many people saying ‘yeah I am from XXX server but I came here to show roleplaying to my friend’. There was more of a sense of travelling to parts unknown and exploring there.
New Player Experience – Unlocking skills for all weapons at character levels makes no sense. Why would a new character have skills with a weapon they have never picked up before? The old system was far more intelligent and logical. And it saved having to 1,1,1,1,1 in the starter instance which is frustrating and dull. The same goes for the profession F1,2,3,4 skills. However, the speed at which you now level to 10 sort of negates some of this issue, since it is so easy to level at earlier stages now.
The big issue for me is the stepped progression. You can be mid fight, struggling, level up and ‘bam’ you faceroll the opponent. This is frustrating, illlogical and does not encourage players who want to challenge themselves by reaching into areas above their Exp level. I used to take level 30-32 characters into 40 zones to level faster and enjoy the challenge. I cannot do that now because instead of being level 30, I am now level 28… and will get my sweet derriere handed to me by those mobs until I hit level 34 and suddenly get a boost.
Ascended – Again, no problem if the stats for Ascended BEFORE infusions matched Exotic, not bested them. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/2/22/Ascended_example.png shows this well. Berserker with Ruby gives 92 Power, 63 Precision and 6% Crit chance. This does not match Ascended. Yes I am aware that this is a trinket which is accessible to all, but the armour and weapon Ascended stats give a further leap above Exotic stats. For those of us who do not play Fractals, this is an enormous advantage for those who do.
Anet said there would be no grind in GW2 – this is enforcing grind of Fractals to create an optimal PvE build. I don’t care if they give an advantage in Fractals, that is the intention. But to give a general quantum leap of an advantage over Exotic, that is unacceptable to me.
Traits – Been hitting my head against the wall on this one for so long, I have left a dent in the brickwork. Traits that require you to go way above your character Exp level to obtain. Yes, some were fixed but Anet has no interest in fixing the rest. Compounded with the stepped progression, this MASSIVELY restricts build choices until, and even after, you hit 80.
It is not all bad. The new rewards, plus rewards focused so that you have a higher chance of profession-suitable rewards is a massive boost to levelling characters.
Right now, my main anger and frustration is the way that Anet knows our concerns, particularly about traits, and yet seem incapable of doing anything to sort it. I mean, if a Dev came in and said “Sorry, this is how our NCSoft Masters want it”, I could accept that. But the complete lies about “We will never force you to grind” and “The new trait system makes traits more approachable” are unacceptable to me. If I blatantly lied to my customers, I would expect to be called in for disciplinaries left and right.
But wait! The next RNG item from Black Lion Chests will be…
“Trait scroll. Doubleclick to unlock a random Trait”.
What I would like to see:
Trait acquisition changed back mostly to how it was. Trait points as they were, acquisition of Grandmaster ONLY to be gained in-game.
Megaserver can stay, but I would like to be able to choose my district so I can choose to be on a quieter shard if I wish.
Most of NPE is fine, except moving Downed back to unlock instantly, as well as Weapon and Profession Skills back as they were. Spamming #1 even in just the new character starter mission isn’t interesting.
Continual improvement of the LS. The latest few episodes were a MASSIVE step in the right direction.
More skill/weapon skills added. The statistics show that despite 5 races being playable in the game, the VAST majority make humans anyway, so a new race for me is pointless.
Well, I disagree with the OP in some respects. I find that the NPE system which increases the chance of armour-class matching equipment dropping is a huge boon. When I levelled 3 characters on Piken Square and 2 on Tarnished Coast post-NPE, I found that I didn’t have to buy any equipment at all until I was ready for my level 80 exotics.
I would also recommend you -not- make a Legendary your primary goal in game. A former guildmate of mine did that. She made Bifrost and immediately quit.
My predictions?
Wildstar will dwindle and be F2P by April.
ESO will carry on also, but no major developments come and it is on life support by year end.
WoW will do a major engine upgrade, many people complain it now runs badly but re-sub anyway.
GW2 will at least announce an expansion, but unlikely to launch before August.
TSW will run out of expansion ideas, and have a ‘history’ phase of some sort where players enter another time zone.
GW2 is alt unfriendly too. Just because they are quick to level doesn’t mean that they are not a time and cost liability. I just deleted 6 80s and may delete 5 more because of this.
TSW is definitely a slower levelling process, and there are things I prefer about each system. Weapon skill levelling for instance… if you think NPE is a grind…
I have to admit though that whilst I have had up to 14 characters in GW2… I can only see myself having 1 in TSW. Partly because GW2 has taught me that alts are a liability, partly because TSW means doing the same attack combos over and over and over again.
TSW is very much a more involving game. Whilst the missions can be paused, a full main mission can take upwards of an hour. It isn’t as casual as GW2 by far. It also has a much darker atmosphere… there are few smiles or happy characters in TSW for sure.
Now I am getting back into GW2 a little, I use them both for their own merits. GW2 for a casual jolly, TSW if I want to play something serious.
Overall though, with the changes to GW2, TSW is the better game and I couldn’t really vote for GW2 in this arena in good faith. GW2 has the fun, TSW has better storyline and delivery, so much so that I feel GW2 vs TSW in that regard is like a one-armed man in a boxing match.
In fairness he does have a point. If I had started playing TSW on launch, and they had made changes similar to those that GW2 has, I may have been jaded enough with the direction of the game to play another… maybe GW2?
Since I am a recent starter in TSW, I have known the game to be in no other state than it is now. If I was to start playing GW2 now, not knowing it any other way, I could have been on TSW forums right now saying these same things.
Already voted for TSW and I don’t even know that game :P
Funny fact: Today I got an e-amil from TSW claiming to be the best ranking game in mmorpg.com. I don’t even know how they got my e-mail or where in mmorpg.com are they the best ranking game :/
The Illuminati are one of the sects in TSW. We are always watching you…
ALWAYS
I enjoyed it. It reminds me of the Mad King tome backpack way back when I was struggling with underlevelled characters and it was a challenge! This wasn’t so much of a challenge with multiple level 80s to choose from, but still good fun.
The only imprrovement I’d make is the ability to turn the ornaments into exotics so they were usable on a full build but I’m all good with what I got.
The conversation is between the PC and Archivist Ernswort.
PC: I really have to ask. Is that Zhaitan’s tail?
AE: As a matter of fact, it is. We brought it here after Zhaitan’s death. We had to construct special rigging to get it in here. It took months.
PC: And they’re experimenting on it?
AE: They’re studying it, yes. It may one day reveal all the secrets of the Elder Dragons.
There apparently was a body. In the Living Story your player character asks if an item in the Special Collections archive of the Durmand Priory is Zhaitan’s tail, and the warden confirms that it is.
We just never saw it, just as we personally never killed Zhaitan. We just pressed #2.
I voted for TSW. I said why in one of the other 30 threads about this.
I think its pretty much a non issue.
I don’t see anyone complaining that they are forced to play as Big Nose Ted in the human ‘common’ storyline.
Edit:
Looks like I unlocked the collection on my Eu account but not my US one. Rats!
I guess I’ll have to wait till reset for it now.

Just look at the eyes on the pic with Zojja in the box. How could they even pretend they are the same?
More China-oriented crap.
The other are ace, however.
Way I feel right now is…
I need 12 skill points to get my monthly. I have a character slot, a birthday level 20 scroll and 6 Tomes of Experience.
I’m thinking of dropping in, blasting them all on a new character, and logging back out, then only collecting my daily log in reward until they make improvements to this game.
I already quit once and returned to do LS2 5-7 in the hope I would want to play again. I don’t.
Well… since I’m in the UK Im excluded anyway.
Oh heck, Zojja looks awful. Her eyes just look 100% wrong. And those feet. Ick.
However, Shatterer looks absolutely awesome and Rytlock isn’t bad at all.
Hmm… might get that Shatterer…
See the difference between this and the No Russian scene in whatever spunkgargleweewee it was in, is that the spunkgargleweewee allowed you to skip it…
NM on Eu servers Oxbone is where he should be. Ignore this

You have to be Chinese. The new player experience is for them now.
Apparently Anet’s ‘metrics’ say that you like this kind of thing.
Despite my knee-jerk reaction to the new daily and monthly achievements, I realise that the new way is actually much better for me. Rather than logging in and spending 30 mins or so per account to get 5 laurels, I now only have to log in once daily to get my eligibility towards them on my daily log-in counter! Heck, I can do that whilst having breakfast before work. So for me, this is great.
So, I wonder, what is the actual purpose of daily achievements? And will the new system actually achieve what they are there for?
1) The dailys encourage participation across the entire world.
2) They reward players for loyalty and frequent play.
3) To keep the game world active and vibrant.
4) As a delivery agent for Laurels and AP.
5) To bring players together at large scale events.
6) To encourage players to enter game modes that they normally do not.
What does the new system do differently, and more importantly better, than the old one? Remember that for me, who only wants Laurels, the new scheme is a great thing. I am trying to look at this from the perspective of whether the dailys do what they are intended to.
1) Well, no. Those players such as myself who don’t need or want AP now don’t have to do anything at all except click in and load into the game. Cross world participation drops.
2) Yes, they do, if loyalty and playing means log-in counter ticking. But does walking through the door at Tesco, and leaving without making a purchase, count as loyalty?
3) As with #1, not really. Most people park in racial cities. These will receive a log in count, but if people just hit-and-run, there is nothing gained.
4) The new system acts as that delivery agent just great for laurels, and it shouldn’t be too hard to PvE only the 10AP daily with ease in less time than the old system. This has a knock-on effect on the above 3 points though. Fewer players bothering to do dailys since they do not want AP, and it taking a shorter time to achieve dailys, means a less populated game world. Less people there + people there for a shorter time.
A further side effect of the above is that new players often get to chat with veterans who are in starter zone maps to do their dailys more easily. This new system threatens to reduce that veteran population, so new players could receive less interaction from them.
5) Go to any large scale event other than a few and there are usually people tripping over each other to participate. Focusing on one World Boss with the daily really doesn’t change that either way.
6) Sorry, I still don’t want to PvP or WvW. If I cannot achieve 3 PvE dailys, I just won’t bother on that day, and I am sure that PvP/WvW only players would feel the same in their respective game modes. This really changes nothing.
Have I missed something? Do the dailys have another objective? Discuss!
I’m only interested in the laurels anyway, to be honest. For me, despite my earlier kneejerk rage, things aren’t so bad.
But as said earlier, the dailies are a little too specific.
I shall make up for this by kicking a chavspawn every day from now till xmas!
Most chavs don’t know who their real father is, so I consider it a suitable substitute.
I don’t think I ever asked to be forced to join the Jungle worm guild or be forced to PvP…
Those are your current options if you want to complete the daily for today.
I think that it’s the caledon wurm, not the triple headed. If i ever see that one on the list, i will go well beyond just disappointed with Anet.
[/quote]
…
You have a good point. I thought it was the one in Bloodtide. This has assuaged my rage a little.
Still, it is a time-gated event which those with limited time may not be able to participate in.
If you’re intent on only doing PvE, then you’ve got a self-imposed restriction that is making it more difficult than it needs to be for you.
Really. Tell that to the friend I knew a little time back who has cerebral palsy and can only use one arm/hand (with poor coordination, at that).
Self-imposed. Hmm.
Interesting. So if i understand it right, level 1-10 characters cannot choose dailies, they need to do all those available to them (one PvE, one WvW, one PvP) in order to qualify for meta?
You what? Checking notes now.
If so, that is utterly insane.
If you have any character on your account over level 31, you get the full range (of 4. Wow.)
I don’t expect any explanation as to why they have done this.
I just have been raging in EU.
So I have 4 options. Queensdale Event, Maguuma Forager, Mystic Toilet usage, Jungle Wurm. Never done a JW, never want to. Guess I’m going to have to learn to use the Mystic Toilet >_<
Basically, this is Anet again saying “Play how WE want you to play” aka trying to force us into WvW and PvP.
What the heck is it with Anet intentionally limiting options or trying to force us to play how we don’t want to?
If you like ‘World of Darkness’ type of game worlds and stories, then TSW might appeal to you better.
For me, personally, I had my fill of that back in the 1990’s.
See, I’m kinda the opposite.
As a huge Cyberpunk/Cybergeneration fan, I am all into darker style writing and modern/futuristic settings. In fact I only started GW2 because it was the big thing when I realised APB:Reloaded was a load of cobblers. It is a testimony to how good GW2 is when I love it so much despite being out of my usual interest range.
GW2 is the brighter happier MMO, and in many ways I prefer playing it, even after the diabolical mess the levelling system is in now. But it is like Fisher-Price ‘My First MMO’ compared to TSW which has mature writing, excellent cutscenes, mostly first rate voice acting, and just a darker tone to it.
Okay, if I were to break it down into 5 categories:
Fun: GW2
Approachability: GW2 pre-AMFP/TSW post AMFP
Storyline/writing: TSW
Voice acting: TSW
Performance: TSW (I play on Ultra settings there with no issues)
Voted for TSW. Its the better game right now.
