Well, now I feel stupid. I had assumed that this signet being active meant the health was present at illusion creation, not based on some lame pulse mechanic. Now I have a better grasp on why sometimes an illusion will seem to take less hits than another copy of the same.

I know it’s lame, but I try to use it to my advantage as much as possible. Think of it this way: If you’re trying to use your clones as a distraction then with this pulse some times the clone they hit will die instantly and sometimes it will have increased health. It might just help fool the enemy into thinking the higher health clones are you because they aren’t dying as easily. (WvW/PvP of course).

Just the mental gymnastics I do to be OK with some of the bugs we face hahaha.

Patch - Time Warp Nerf

They promised to increase duration of Quickness effects and they didnt on Time Warp fail. Although i can live with the nerf. But 10 seconds is incredible short, no matter how you turn it, and ‘only’ a 50% increase is to few in 10 secs to make a difference on ‘slow casting’ professions imo.

If they increased the duration all that much longer it would be a very long ethereal field (it’s ethereal right? Can’t remember). TW was much more than just the quickness speed component for an individual. Being able to give 5 people a decent amount of quickness is pretty awesome borderline over powered, so giving this an even longer duration was probably a big concern for them.

What they should have done was build it similar to shadow refuge where it will give you quickness duration in pulses that way the ethereal field component is limited but the quickness duration can be added still. I think that would probably work.

I’m generally not someone who vents often, but the comment from the devs leaves something to be desired. The bug still exists, but they close the post for it because people are reminding them that it isn’t fixed? The excuse of “bumping is preventing us from seeing other pertinent issues” is amazing… it’s called a scroll button on the mouse. It allows you to see unread forum topics.

I understand that this game is amazingly complex and things break, but closing a bug topic because you’re sick of hearing from your players is just silly. I’m relatively sure that’s not the impression they meant to give, but they should probably have someone proofread their responses before they post them. Kinda like having someone test their code before fielding it in a patch.

Edit: In before infraction and on topic… I haven’t seen the zerker missing, only the apparent redux in damage. Doesn’t appear to be an intended nerf, so it might be tied to some other ability (from another class perhaps?) that they reduced the damage in??

Leaves a sour taste in your mouth for sure. I have seen both issues happening, obviously the damage has been reduced but I have also seen it missing some of it’s hits.

Has anyone else noticed that sometimes the phantasm is holding a one handed sword, or maybe is the 2h model being used as a 1h? Makes the spinning animation very weird to look at because the sword is tucked close to his body.

Even with the bonus health, it really depends on your playstyle as to whether you should use it or not. I’m running a full Phantasm spec, but in PvE, I use iDefender, Blink and Null Field. In PvP (WvW), I use Decoy, Blink and Arcane Thievery. It’s really not worth it for me to run Signet of Illusions, even if it gives 200% health to my phantasms. Why not? In PvE, Phantasms aren’t expected to live. If you’re able to get 3 [of the same] out, then they shouldn’t be expected to die, either. In PvP, you should only really expect a Phantasm to live through one or two attacks. Think of them as Conditions. They can get removed, so let them get removed and keep applying them.

I’ve been using it in a shatter build, helps insure my bombs can make it to their target and maybe even take a few hits for me, plus the reset on shatter cool downs is pretty nice.

It’s pretty insane to me when a company takes this long to look at a problem and still has no idea why it’s missing. I understand that game code can be a real mess, but really? No idea? Makes me sad when I read that coming from the devs because to me that means one of two things: Either they really don’t know what is going on with their code or they haven’t invested any real time looking into the issue despite them saying it’s a high priority. Both of those options make me very sad.

Does anyone know if their current team inherited the game code from another developer or another set of designers?

Our server doesn’t understand. IoJ is freefalling out of T6, this would of been our perfect time to pop right back in. However GoM will (probably) move up and we will be stuck in T7 against IoJ and SF. And for those of you that are unaware of SF. It will NOT be pretty when they move up..

Have you looked at the scores recently? IoJ is not dropping out of T6 and GoM is not moving up. In fact, most of the rating points we’re losing this week are going to HoD, not GoM.

Yeeeeepp, looks like we are going to be wearing blue this week. We cannot let this stand NSP!

Not all pets have been nerfed… When fighting a ranger.. their pet is usually still the highest damager… And our other phantasms still hit just as hard… But the zerker is flat missing 3/4 of its attacks…. Its not necessarily a damage issue but a missing issue.

This. Maybe it has something to do with all the terrain issues and perhaps some one tried to fix the terrain/pathing/clone issues and that’s what broke the iZerker. Who know’s really?

Yea, stealth no longer resets the aggro table so once you become visible again mobs retarget you immediately. Which makes decoy in PvE less useful. It’s still good in WvW, when it works. Seems more and more frequently that the stealth portion of decoy doesn’t really work, but it could be how I’m using it. There’s probably some sort of ability that is on it’s way to an enemy and when I decoy it then hits them causing it to break stealth. Thinking of dropping this utility all together for something more reliable.

Well it was acknowledged they don’t know where it came from… however… If they were to just fix it in the up coming patch I would be okay… Or if they were to just tell us SOME progress being made.

That’s what I’m hoping for too. This patch will ultimately decide if I need to switch to one of my other 80s that I have to then farm new exotic gear for (bleh) or just hang up my hat on GW2 until they fix it. I really love the game though, so I’m hoping this patch resolves the issue. I just hate feeling so crippled when using my favorite weapon.

I dont think this problem is exclusive to mesmers…

I think it has to do with pet/minion/clone crit damage

pre patch my eagle was critting a heavy golem for 2k
post patch my eagle cant get above 1.7k

I wish is was a simple as all “pets” not doing the damage they were supposed to. I feel like it would have been fixed already if that were the case. Since it hasn’t been fixed yet I’m guessing the bug is pretty complicated and they haven’t been able to lock down the source of it yet. I am choosing to believe that, because the next likely alternatives are that they either don’t see this bug as important or they are leaving it like that because they want to nerf Mesmer’s and this “bug” intentional or not basically did that for them. I don’t like those two alternatives so I will give Anet the benefit of the doubt, because if this bug is here to stay then I may be shelving this game game for a while.

Look up how to look up event logs in windows and take a look in there. If there was some sort of system error it should be present in the logs. It will give you and us a better idea of what is happening with the machine.

Culling will be fixed soon according to ANET. My prediction is that this will add more skill lag, which will then be fixed by ANET. So we will go from complaining about culling to complaining about skill lag.

Personally skill lag is far worse to me than culling. I can AoE the air to deal with culling, I can’t AoE at all with skill lag…

This, skill lag and culling go hand in hand…culling was actually a measure to prevent skill lag after all. I’m very interested in how them “fixing” culling affects how much skill lag we see. If skill lag doesn’t increase at all then all they need to do is pin point what is causing our current levels of sLag and fix it. My theory is that sLag is going to increase by a fair margin and cause a community outcry. How Anet plans to deal with this situation remains to be seen. Will we see a roll back on the culling fix if sLag is too great or will they use their now “culling free” data and quickly figure out what needs to be done to fix it? Very interesting times are ahead.

These exact traits is what i had when solo roaming in wvw and what i prefer but as mentioned i change traits all the time the only thing that doesn’t change is the 20/20/0/0/30 for this build. Yes its for heavy shatter, don’t like anything else on mez but shatter spam

I’m right there with you on that, shattering is the only style I like to play with. I play around with traits too so I was just curious for the reasoning behind it as I always feel like I’m missing something about the Mez’s mechanics haha. Thanks and happy hunting.

Seems like a pretty solid balance between offense/defense. I went with a mix of berserkers and valkyrie gear so high health pool instead of toughness. I’m guessing you shatter instead of leaving your clones alive (basing it on trait choices). Seeing as your crit is 60% I can see why you skipped the extra 10% chance to crit on mind wrack which is a smart move…why not go for compounding power versus the extra 33% confusion duration?

There is a huge difference between gear progression and REQUIRED gear grind. That’s the point.

Guild Wars 1 had gear progression too. You could have a top tier weapon with max stats or without it. With plus 29 health or plus 30 health. Not every max level weapon was equal.

Not to mention, even before ascended gear, there were already tiers of gear in Guild Wars 2, much like GW 1. Rare, exotic, same level of gear, different stats. That’s gear progression.

I think a lot of people played Guild Wars 1 and didn’t play a lot of other MMOs. Anyone who says this is turning into WoW really hasn’t spent much time in WoW. The content isn’t gated. The higher levels of fractals DO require ascended gear, which you get for free for doing fractals. But you can see everything the fractals has to offer without ever getting ascended gear at all.

Dungeons aren’t gated. No one needs ascended gear to do dungeons. You don’t even need exotics.

Yes, the difference between gear you need to grind for isn’t cosmetic in Guild Wars 2, that’s true. But it doesn’t change the fact that the game doesn’t require you to grind for any of it. You can play through the content without grind if that’s what you choose to do. It’s certainly what I choose to do.

Great clarification and pretty much what I was saying too. There’s still gear progression, but it’s not required. It’s still pretty advisable to do so though…for instance in WvW, once you hit 80, you had better be grinding for exotics/ascended gear or you may quickly discover that you aren’t on a totally even playing field.

I should clarify here again that the culling fix will have minimal impact on skill lag. Skill lag happens because the server too busy to process everything that’s happening (e.g. it’s at 100% CPU). The removal of culling addresses issues experienced by the client but those changes don’t really impact the skill lag situation. They are fundamentally different problems that will need different solutions.

Why 2-3-5 man in WvW when you can do small scale in PvP? I thought WvW was meant for large scale battles.

Just curious.

Probably has something to do with it not being open world and you can’t use the gear you have spent time grinding up. At least those are the two reasons I favor WvW over PvP.

MH scepter and OF sword the crappiest of all mesmer weapons. What do they have in common? A useless block skill!

In PvE maybe, Blocks are awesome in PvP especially when they summon clones and do damage.

Which is very sad… One time last night I got hit by one for 4K and was actually happy… Went to equip my greatsword… And it hit for 1k… That is it… It is really frustrating to have to worry about logging on to your main after every patch because you have to wonder “how will I have to change my build because of what’s they most likely broke?”

Yea, I have still been using the GS primarily because I refuse to let this bug dictate how I play, but it still has not been pretty. Still hoping we see a fix soon or at least get an update on how long they think it’s going to take to iron out this new wrinkle.

I guarantee even with the fix to stealth thieves are still going to reign supreme, much to my dismay, but the fix to culling will affect everyone equally. So those people who spring up out of portals are going to render much faster (theoretically) so it will be easier to counter this tactic. As with anything in this game, just wait and see…

Portals are fine the way they work now, anything less would make it not worth the utility slot.

My whole point is that the attacking team should have to coordinate and organize to get a foothold in a BL. Why are we dumbing down WvW with this spammable event? WvW should encourage and reward effort…as it stands right now they are basically giving a tower away for free to an attacking team which is really really lame.

You’ve either just started playing or you’ve never played on a low pop / demoralized server. It’s one thing to get organized and take 1 camp and 1 tower. People do this. And after you’ve taken that tower, what do you do? You have to LEAVE to take something else, or to pressure another location. That camp you took? It was already gone before you got the door down. That tower? Gone as soon as you leave it. Don’t leave the tower? The dominant team shows up in such numbers that they can just autoattack the door down. Siege it up? All spent the last 20 times you took the tower this week. Send out squads out into the map to force the defenders to actually defend? Congrats, you just LEFT THE TOWER. Back to the beginning.

Before breakouts, there was literally no reason to return to the all-green borderlands after Friday. It was nothing but a massive time, gold, and skill point sink. And green had no reason to stay and defend, and left to crush the other two borderlands. And by Sunday, Green was very bored. And so was Blue and Red.

I agree with a lot of what you said, but I feel that’s an issue with WvW as a whole and perhaps this Breakout was not the best solution to this problem. Honestly I don’t have a lot of suggestions that would work better, but I do know that this implementation is a poor solution and is currently being abused in it’s current incarnation.

Are you saying that what you have isn’t good? I really disagree with you. You play a necromancer, which are prolly the second easiest class to stomp.

Are you saying your necro downed is as good as your mesmer? Necro got good damage, but that’s about it. It won’t save you.

I said none of those things. I’m simply saying that just because other people are worse off doesn’t mean the Mesmer downed state is as amazing as everyone is saying. It has it’s good sides and it’s bad side.

Just so you don’t put any more words in my mouth again I will give you my evaluation of the mesmer downed state given my personal experience and not some test I did with a friend.

Skill #1: Does decent damage (if you’re a GC) and causes confusion (which is good if you’re a condition mesmer). Those two scenarios don’t really happen at the same time it’s one or the other. It has a pretty short range and if you’re getting hit by it then move to range and attack.

Skill #2: It can stop an initial stomp from a group of people, which is great. A lot of classes have one of these, I would argue all classes should have this ability but not all classes are built equally so that’s up to the devs to balance. It teleports you which sounds nice, but in reality it usually teleports you to the worst possible places (IE: into enemies AoE or into an enemy zerg) which in some cases is actually a worse position than you were in before. It also summons a clone which is only useful for additional confusion stacks. It either dies right away though or you’re getting spiked so that confusion stack is nullified since it will only trigger once if it even gets a chance to.

Skill #3: On a GC mesmer can hit hard…let’s emphasize CAN. If it happens to hit their back AND crit it CAN do decent damage. It takes a while to be able to summon it, it has very little health, a long wind up time on it’s attack, and most of the time will not hit the targets back which is when it will do meaningful damage. This damage is easily avoidable by dodging and/or killing the weak phantasm…even AoE will kill it fairly fast. Even if you are getting hit by the iRogue for 4k it’s not a rapid fire ability you should be able to kill the rogue very quickly so as to not take another hit.

In a real pvp scenario enemies will barely bat an eye and you will be dead. IF the stars happen to align in your favor you might get a rally off of it, probably not though.

So in reality all this has done is give you a slight chance to rally…which isn’t that the point in the first place?

But if you turn off the cap for boons and heals then that will encourage people to ball up.

Well then they can eat a bunch of AoE and probably wipe…sounds balanced to me.

What you’re complaining about happens maybe 1 in 10 times, probably not even that. If you have at least 10 people and they still manage to get through a wall or door, that’s your fault.

Is it still their fault if the have 10 and the people trying to get in have 50? Cause that was one if his points.

Not to mention if they fail the gate/wall doesn’t magically repair itself. So while we are scrambling to run supply to repair the gates and walls they just activate the Breakout event again ad nausium until they eventually get through. It’s a very cheap tactic. This is why some sort of extended timer is necessary.

Spamming breakout wouldn’t be a big deal if it was only a slight boost in an enemies ability to take a tower, but that isn’t the case. It’s a pretty substantial boost and it makes 10 people way more effective at taking something they shouldn’t have been able to take otherwise.

The commander takes a while to kill even while focus fired, he pulls defenders off walls very frequently, he provides CC and really good damage, he gives them all +10 supply, and several almost fully built siege equipment and ridiculously long bubbles around them. Having all of this being spammable is hardly fair play especially for a server that has spent a fair amount of time locking down their BL and upgrading everything. Once you have worked hard to get into that position you shouldn’t have to leave 50 defenders in your BL at all times constantly defending a breakout, those forces should be used on other maps helping to grab other nodes and defending them.

TL;DR: if the enemy wants a foot hold on the map they should have to commit forces and work for it like every other tower.

Edit: It seems like Anet really likes to cripple the ability of people to defend towers. They should be hard to take! That’s why we should be fighting over them/ Otherwise just make every node a supply camp and be done with it.

The problem with removing the limit is that it would make most assaults impossible. Two or three people could easily wipe a whole assaulting group just by dropping a few AOEs outside the things they were defending. Imagine three zerker mesmers all launching a single illusory beserker each, then a warden. The entire enemy group would be instantly downed, and the wardens would finish them off along side the mesmers themselves. Throw in a clone each, hit shatter….and you have guaranteed 3 vs 60 wins.

The limit is needed or you’d go from stagnant to stalemate as everyone is afraid to actually launch an attack against an opponent.

I don’t think that scenario would play out like you think. The attacking zerg would have to literally be doing nothing at all but standing there for that to happen. In reality they would be stacking protection, retaliation, regeneration, and using healing abilities. They would be doing this all the while launching assaults of their own which would probably kill a zerker mesmer in no time flat. Not to mention the shatter radius on clones isn’t the size of 60 people and I presume this zerg isn’t stacking up anymore since there’s no AoE limit and there’s no need to. The current cap makes it so small groups of defenders have a really hard time holding off stupidly large assaults until backup can arrive and all that does is make fights one sided. One sided fights are boring and everyone should want more fun out of WvW.

Tl;DR: The AoE cap only benefits people who can’t learn to get out of AoE when zerging.

Group fight, a player down a mesmer.
chaos around, the player can’t stomp right away the mesmer. He lose about 3-4 second.
He goes to stomp the mesmer, mesmer use number 2.
Goes to stomp again, mesmer cast rogue.
Player dodge.
Player goes for stomp again.
Rogue hit again at the end of the stomp.
Mesmer use number 2.

People say rogue take a long time to come up. It’s the same thing as other number 3. If you don’t stomp right away, the rogue will be up.

Mesmer downed state is good, don’t live in denial. More then half classes have it worse.

He doesn’t just take a long time to come up he also attacks very slowly. I sincerely doubt the timing to just layed out in this scenario is even legit, but even if it was the iRogue doesn’t seek out the back of an enemy is just follows it around so if the second attack lands there’s a strong chance it’s not going to hit you for any considerable damage.

Just because other classes have it worse doesn’t make what we have good. You can call it denial but I’ve played some considerable time with my Mesmer and other’s have as well and if you aren’t willing to believe what we are telling you then I guess there’s no convincing you and it’s really a waste of time trying. My personal experience disproves what people are saying and that’s enough for me to believe that either people are lying or are just not sure how to deal with a Mesmer when they are downed and are blaming the mechanics of the game.

Yea for a game type that is clearly designed around large scale zerg combat the architecture really doesn’t handle it all that well. Here’s to hoping some infrastructure fixes solve the problems we are having. At least they have “fixed” culling (don’t fully trust that this is the case yet).

+1’d this. Breakout is annoying in it’s current implementation primarily because there’s no timer on it. If a server fails a breakout attempt make it unusable for an hour.

Either he should be allowed to hit for as much as he is and his health needs to be toned down or keep his health and make him focus more on CC than damage. Him being a part of a spammable event and hitting for as much as he does on top of being a tank and spawning almost fully built siege for players is just bad implementation.
