Hello all,

Thought I’d post something a little interesting that I just seen like a couple of minutea ago. A Charr Engineer, who didn’t appear to be a dev, no Anet symbol by his name, but he was using 4 Npc Pets, a Griffin, which I don’t even think you can get as a ranger.

They followed him exactly like npc’s would. To further observation of him being a hacker, he summoned Charr Npc’s next, and then turned em into spiritual weapons.

Hack or not, this was pretty kitten lol.

Unfortunately, there are many, many users out there who would disagree with you Revelstoke.

In my opinion this was the worst experience I’ve ever seen during launch, definitely not the most stable, and if you’ve looked around, you would have noticed tens-of-thousands of accounts were banned, due to bad behavior, naming problems, and tons such as myself who had been hacked within the pre-launch, had to go through poor service with automated responses for about 2 weeks after having their accounts blocked for 72 hours, then banned permanently without even so much as touching them game themselves.

Problems like this have also been shown all over Twitch.tv, such as players getting banned for buying a Karma item worth 28 Karma, when it was supposed to be 28K Karma, and then being told “You have to spend ALL Your gold, and ALL your Karma, or we will ban your account permanently”. As if they expected everyone checks their forums on a daily basis. In my opinion, launch, up until players actually started leaving, Guild Wars 2 has not been smooth, and stable, and unnecessary changes are being continued driving more players away, then actually keeping. Of course, this is but my opinion.

I can admit Guild Wars 2 has been showing some improvement, and that none of the changes are really effecting how I find Guild Wars 2. And just to throw a different curve to your praising Guild Wars 2, as said, many others would disagree highly that Guild Wars 2 was definitely not the smoothest they’ve played. I suppose I’ll include myself after spending 2 weeks at the beginning trying to reclaim my account.

The very 1st line of the 1st post states he/she knows that.

What they (and me) want is a way to make it always stay unsheathed and for it not to just go back to being sheathed within a number of seconds.

Ah sorry, my bad, didn’t read carefully. I can’t say I personally care too much, but I’ll throw in my support for poor reading.

I’d agree with you Andovar,

Since me and my girlfriend play together most of the time I’m actually playing Guild Wars 2, it feels a bit distasteful to say the least, that only the player who’s story you’re doing is allowed to do well… anything. Quite a few times in the story all you’re doing is going back and forth talking to npc’s, collecting items, etc. And it’s a bit silly to even allow multiple people into a story if only one person is able to ever do anything.

What makes this system even worse, is that if you’re on the exact same story, the second player is just there to sit and watch, until any fighting commences. I have been thinking about this for a while, and how silly the whole setup is.

(Should have posted this topic in the suggestion portion of the forums)

Combat Mode Discussion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Humor.5763

Humor.5763

Hello all,

I’ve created this topic because I would like to see some of the opinions on combat mode, and if you feel it’s needed, or not. So, let us try and have a good discussion going.

I’m almost 100% positive while in the Beta, there was no “Combat Mode” present. The more, and more I start playing Guild Wars 2 (Level 80, and four other characters), I’ve just been getting irritated by the combat mode.

In my opinion, this is simply just slowing down the game and I believe quite a few players such as myself, and others within my guild are just tired of falling off a ledge, or having a monster hit you, and then being stuck, or put into combat mode forcibly. And I’m not sure if it’s just me, but it seems that every new patch it seems that we’re just running, slower, and slower, to a point where we can’t even escape monsters, which I find is ridiculous.

Now, before everyone goes, and gets all riled up, I’m obviously apparent to why combat mode is in place, and that’s simply due to kiting reasons. Again, that’s no real big issue here, but other games we’ve seen combat modes implemented in such as… Well, the only one that comes to mind really is Tera, but even with their combat mode, they’ve had some form, or sort of way to increase their combat speed for a “longer” period of time then what Guild Wars 2 offers. As such options would be are food, potions, scrolls, other items etc. These would all increase our combat speeds making it a bit better to fight others in PvP.

Now, I really don’t see the reasoning behind the combat speed come to PvE. Obviously kiting comes to mind, but have you seen how fast the majority of monsters run? If you can’t outrun being hit by the monsters out of combat mode, what was the point of adding combat mode in the first place to PvE? Not to mention Guild Wars 2 revolves around the traditional auto-target hit boxing, meaning that if you’re incredibly far away form an enemy, but were close up as the action was commencing, you’re still going to get hit unless you dodge, which is limited, and should only be used for certain attacks, and or skills.

Could ArenaNet have done something like some other games? Add in “Combat Mode” strictly for PvP, and just have left the PvE speed alone?

As it stands now, my answer to this is yes, considering there are absolutely no items to enhance your speed while in combat, and all you’re relying on is slight “Trait enhancements”, and skills you can use once every 20 seconds, which by then the battle is over, and it was pointless to have used the skill in the first place, other then traveling reasons.

So, what are some other opinions out there about combat mode?

(Note: Sorry if this was a reposted topic, I searched around for something similar, but could only find others “Female Dogging” about how they hated it, this isn’t really a “hate” thread, just some general discussion, or an attempt at it)

Why is there not a PvP Server?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Humor.5763

Humor.5763

I do believe it was stated long ago in a Developer video, that “Guild Wars 2 is a social community” (correct me if I’m wrong).

To me, and from what I’ve heard, Guild Wars 2 is simply following the storyline from Guild Wars 1, the novels, etc. And is all about working together to defeat the “End Threat” of the game. Why would you even think for a second, that a game coming from all this, would have open world PvP?

I don’t doubt games with Open World PvP are awesome, taking a look back to Lineage 2, Tera, Aion, etc, and all the mass PKing I’ve done, I did enjoy it. But, since Guild Wars 2 is first and foremost story driven, the addition of open world PvP, on top of the hordes, and hordes of monsters always around you, would kind of be pointless. If you’re expecting the type of open world PvP where you would just sneak around, and kill unexpecting “Victims” it just wouldn’t happen in that manner, you’d either be swamped by monsters, before, or after you’ve killed the other player, and the end result would lead in your death anyways.

Open World PvP games are great, but Guild Wars 2, is more less for the “Casual” players out there, of course this is simply my opinion, but it’s nice to sit down, play a game, and just not worry about watching your back 24/7. And you know what? If you want to, you can do that as well, heck, the entire game of Guild Wars 2 could be turned into PvP in the blink of and eye, and one mouse click, only without causing anyone else harm to their version of “Fun”. Guild Wars 2 still needs tons of improvements, but overall, just because they left out open world PvP, doesn’t make it anything short of a “Good” time.

Do exotics drop outside of dungeons in pve? Need Superiors Runes.

I’ve personally only ran the story dungeon Ascalonian Catacombs, and I’ve already found at least 3-4 exotics outside dungeons, just running around with my girlfriend, playing, and enjoying a game that doesn’t tie me down to doing dungeons.

Couple of days ago we found level 70 exotic (Orange). Berserker Pants for my Warrior, an Exotic Spear forget what it was called, and then I believe she found an Exotic helmet. So, I would say yes, there is exotic drops outside of dungeons, I’m not too sure how rare they are though, I can’t personally say I’ve been looking for them, because if worst comes to worst, I’ll just do like I did with my level 70 weapon, and buy it.

Battle Background Music Enable/Disable

Humor.5763

Hello all,

So as I was playing through on my fifth character right now, I’ve come to notice how annoying the background music is when you’re battling, sure, it’s fine for the first few characters you run through the game with, but after the fourth, and the fifth one, well, it does get a little irritating. It has also been brought to my attention that the battle background music is bugged, in the sense it’ll just random keep on playing even while you’re not in battle. This is when it really becomes a problem.

Now, I don’t mind the music in Guild Wars 2 at all, it is wonderfully done, but there’s only so many times I am willing to listen to the same battle music, over, and over. So, as a suggestion that could be seen in future updates, we should see the option in the audio section to disable, battle background music. While it’s not hard to turn off, or down the music in game, I do enjoy listening to the actual “Map” background music more then battle music itself.

Just a suggestion, and something I personally would love to see in future updates.

Allow Prepaid Cards (Not Account Binding)

Hello all,

So after reading the Halloween content, and what ArenaNet has planned to do, with their Black Lion Trading Post and all. I’d like to suggest that you start allowing Pre-Paid cards to be a valid way of purchasing Gems. Honestly, the whole NCsoft policy is a load of bull, and I have no other way of purchasing Gems, other then using Pre-Paid cards now. I’d love to throw money away on this game, and I have no clue why you’re not allowing Pre-Paid cards in the first place.

Apparently, I have used my Visa on all my “Master” accounts, which I have no clue as to what they are, because the only games I’ve ever played by NCsoft were Lineage 2, Aion, and Guild Wars 1/2. I have no clue how I could have used all the “Master” accounts, all five, seeings how I’ve only had like 3 at the most. That’s beside the point though. You’re basically telling me, that I have to spend hours, upon hours now in game, trying to farm gold, so I can buy the ridiculously overpriced gems from the Black Lion Trading Post, because I can’t use Pre-Paid card, nor PayPal (Master account reason agian…), and so, come time for some “interesting” costumes, and stuff I might actually want from the Black Lion Trading post, which I’m also assuming is a limited time during this “one-weekend” event, I won’t have any shot at obtaining them.

Hello all,

So, after using the search function for this… And having it do nothing but bring up the first page of topics on the forum, I was wondering if there’s a place in game or something where you can check out your total time played. I see people posting it often in the forums, and was just curious as if it was just an “estimated” guess on how long you’ve actually been playing or if there’s actually a place where I could spot this.

Thanks in advance.

Sigil Of Precision/Power Are Not Both Active?

So, I suppose I spent quite a bit of silver/gold getting these runes, and all for naught it would seem, as it only activates the one which I use first. Example, if I kill a monster with the weapon that has a Sigil of Perception, I can no longer use the Sigil Of Power or whatever it’s called, until I die.

So, my question is, has it always been like this? I suppose I’d better do some type of research before making the same mistake twice. Or is this just one of those things ArenaNet “felt” like changing, just as a big joke?

I’m someone who uses my right click button on the mouse constantly, to turn my camera angle while in battle, and it’s super annoying that while I’m doing this, I’m always selecting different enemies that I don’t even care to select, I’m even selecting “Critters” which is even more annoying lol.

So as a simple suggestion here, it’s not “Top Priority” obviously, but could you add something in the options so it doesn’t effect everyone, but just people who dislike right click selecting targets? I would like to see an option personally to make it so that right clicking ONLY moves the camera, and does absolutely nothing else, as I can’t see myself ever using it for anything else, other then moving the camera. I’m sure I can’t be the only one who finds himself frustrated at times with this.

How interested are you still in this game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Humor.5763

Humor.5763

I can safely say the game still piques my interest, however, there have been a lot of changes that I just find unnecessary. Such as Oct, 7th’s patch. Some of the changes are “OK” at best, but everything else that I’ve read in the patch feels like complete, and utter garbage. It’s hard to believe ArenaNet is taking anything seriously here, and it feels as if they themselves don’t even bother asking the community what people like, and people dislike about classes. To me, it sounds like they’re just taking a shot in the dark, they don’t have a clue what’s going on around them, and make these poor decisions and changes within the game. For example, they changed the Guardians feel completely, I’m someone who just goes all out, and plays the Warrior class, but I do have a secondary (alt) character, and since I’m one who enjoys being up front and bashing things to death, the Guardian of course is my second choice. When I went from 2 days ago, to yesterday, I was just kind of shocked. My 33 Guardian felt completely useless while wielding a Greatsword. I get the idea they “Picture” how a Guardian “should” be. But they didn’t really get any input from users out there, and just made a change, and are saying “Deal with it, your input doesn’t matter, it’s what WE want”.

I usually play Guild Wars 2 with my girlfriend on a daily basis, probably only for 2-3 hours, so not very long each day, because we have our own things to do. Everything is done “OK” in Guild Wars 2, and it’s only been out for a short period of time, but as many have said before, the game feels almost unfinished, and much, much more should have been added before the release, such as a wider selection of skills, and or weapon choices. I find it odd, that melee classes have so very few melee weapons. Where’s the Halberds, Bardiche’s, and Polearms in general? In the most useless spot in the entire game, underwater… How often is everyone fighting underwater? I’d say not even 25% of the game has you underwater.

Nearing level 80 finally (level 72 Warrior), same with my girlfriend (only a Ranger), and well, we find ourselves ever since passing level 50, getting a little tiresome of this game. I already know half my Guild quit already, and are either playing something else, or just waiting for something significant to change in Guild Wars 2. One of by buddies has reached level 80 within 3 days, and all throughout those 3 days he kept saying he was bored, and that there was nothing to do. Of course, me and him usually come from action based games such as Monster Hunter, so, when there’s no actual “Action” or “skill” (not saying there isn’t, it’s just the “feeling”), it does get dull.

I’ll continue to keep playing Guild Wars 2, at least until there’s something else out there worth my time. Who knows, if ArenaNet plays their cards right, and actually does make needed changes, and makes an attempt to ASK the community before making “not so wise” decisions, and keep up to date every month and such, I could very well be around for a while.

Anyhow, that’s my voice of opinion on how interested I still am in Guild Wars 2.

Just A Little Review

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Humor.5763

Humor.5763

I hate to complain too much, just a personal review, but, the cinema’s when talking to others in the story was just done bad… I don’t mean the voice acting(kind of this), the art, etc was bad. I just meant the characters aren’t showing any emotion, and majority of the time the background is exactly the same depending on which area you’re in. It doesn’t feel like ArenaNet has tried to convince me too much that the characters actually have emotion whatsoever. They all stand there with their arms down, moving their heads side to side, maybe raising their arm a little, no facial expressions, overall it was just a bad experience. I can’t even say through the voice acting did it give any emotion. When Trahearne or whatever his name was is giving the speech in the future vision, he doesn’t sound as enthusiastic as he really should. He should be shouting at the top of his lungs, trying to boost morale, but, at most he’s just using a “kind” of loud indoor voice. Sorry to say it, but there’s absolutely no emotion in the story at all. I wish they would have tried harder, with the cinema’s, and voice acting. It in a way kind of kills the story. Sure, voice acting is nice and all, but just like a movie, if it’s not convincing, you might as well have just gave me the text to read, and or skip.

Long Story Short

  • Love the art Style of Guild Wars 2
  • Undead is way too plain, feels like you didn’t event try, I’ve seen all the monsters at level 5 the undead has to show me.
  • Great design on the recycled monsters from Guild Wars 1, added new skills, new looks.
  • Dynamic Events are still fun to do, but they feel like more “Reoccurring” now, then anything new. Change up events every month or two on EVERY Map.
  • Storyline is good, but after level 40 becomes a bit boring having separated from your personal story.
  • Feels like next to no effort was put into giving the Cinema’s Emotion, or feeling.

I suppose that just about sums up my “Review”. If any dared to read, hope you enjoyed. Feel free to leave thoughts, and comments.

Dynamic Events… At first these were just awesome, when the population in the lower leveled area’s were just filled to the max, I miss those days about a month ago, where you’d see hundreds of players just doing the same event, and watching the difficulty scale so that everyone was, or looked like they were working together, and it was nice seeing that events went from one state to another. As time progresses though, you begin to feel like the events aren’t so “Dynamic” anymore, and just events that reoccur every 5-10 minutes, which I guess is fine, I have no complaints about any of them I still run around and do them for the fun, experience, money, and Karma. But, looking back, at the video’s, and how they explained dynamic events, and how continuous things would just keep happening, I suppose I now realize, well, did back then too, that it has to end somewhere, I just expected every event to have some kind of “chain” to link to it. I am thoroughly impressed with how the Dynamic events are played out, I do however hope that ArenaNet makes some changes, and “Special” events during special occasions. I don’t wish to see the same events all the time, and it feels like there needs to be more incentive going back into the lower level area’s just to do the same dynamic events, over, and over. It would be nice to see ArenaNet completely scrap every Dynamic Event in every map we know, and just create brand new ones entirely, of course, the amount it would cost, and the time it would take to do it, I do think everyone in Guild Wars 2 would be pleased to see something along those lines, where going back is actually fun, because new and interesting things keep happening. I do not wish Guild Wars 2 to see the same fate as every other game where ALL The content is just added for high levels, and the max levels, that is just stupid business, and encourages absolutely no one to pick up the game, and or start a new character period. Keep all the area’s different say every month to two months, and it’s almost guaranteed the game will stay alive.

Finally, the storyline. I love the storyline in Guild Wars, and loving the storyline in Guild Wars 2. The time and effort spent with all the voice acting, cinematics, etc, was just outstanding in my eyes. The personal storyline, and being able to pick your story was just so much fun, but all good things must come to an end. I don’t know why the personal story is intertwined with the "Main’ story, from my understanding everyone’s personal story was supposed to be completely different, yet, like mentioned in another topic on the forums, after level 40, you’re finished your personal story, and you’re off saving the world with everyone else. I get the point of the game obviously is to “Save Tyria, and slay the Dragons” with all the other races, but why should this directly effect my personal story, and why should my personal story come to an end? In my opinion, your personal story, and “Main” story should have been kept different all together. Your personal story could have been going through the orders, doing missions, side missions, finding someone you “Love”, etc. Saving the world doesn’t really apply to a personal story at all. You’re doing the same thing everyone else is doing after level 40. Also notice the same voices being used over again through cinema’s for lesser significant characters, the voice acting just got sloppy, and shoddy. It almost felt as is everything just fell apart after level 40. I’m doing exactly what a linear game is telling me to do now. I have no choices, no options, no freedom to do anything about my personal story after level 40. The story is good, but… I believe they could have kept the two, Personal, and Main story different from one another, to make the game that much more interesting.

Gameplay and Visuals

The artistic feeling of Guild Wars 2 was done very, very well done. A round of applause, and a pat on the back should be given to the ArenaNet team. I absolutely adore your artwork, everything looks amazing, and I’ll never get bored at looking at one structure, piece of environment, or just my surroundings in general. Everywhere I look, it feel as if the environment is moving, and or changing around me. From birds, to butterflies, no matter which direction you look, there is always something entertaining to look at.

The designs on some of the monsters are decent too. I think some of the creatures such as the dragons took some very well thought out designing to do. However… it does get rather boring seeing the same creatures, over, and over, again. Even if you paint a monster a different color, toss in one skill here or there, the fact still remains, it’s the same monster no matter how many coats of paint you give it. Which brings me to the undead monsters. Honestly, the designs on the undead were “kind” of thought out well, but, you didn’t so much as slap a new coat on the undead. It’s all the same looking, and later on in the ending area’s, I don’t even know how you even want to stay in the zone for longer then 30 minutes without feeling bored of looking at the same rotting, walking corpses over, and over. The undead I feel were very poorly thought out with their design. At first when you meet the undead in the game (first time), you get the feeling “oh Yay! Zombie mode!”. But everyone and their dog now a days with game uses zombies, hell, Call Of Duty is the perfect example, a first person shooter, turned into nothing more then Zombies, and quite frankly, I’m tired of seeing the undead already. It’s all I’ve been seeing for the past 20 levels already and not one of them looks remotely different from what they used to be. For example, the Sylvari race, near “Morgans Spiral” doing the two events near it, waves of zombies, and escorting Alexx, you pretty much see every type of Zombie the game has to offer right then and there. You see a risen Hylek, you see Abominations, and you see the normal, and very dull Undead. I don’t think I’ve seen anything different in the undead other then those three types of undead, and maybe the “Bone Spines” if you’d count those as being undead…

Other monsters visually look great, the Centaur are well done, there’s no, or seems to be no animation issues of what you’d expect a man crossed with a horse to look like, it’s not to see they’re galloping around, and heck, you even went so far as to throw in some white, and brown spots on some of the Centaur. I am also very glad you’ve made different genders of this race as well, it seems like they’re not overly used in Guild Wars 2, however, you did well, on making them not incredibly boring to look at while you’re bashing their heads in.

Recycled monsters from Guild Wars, such as the Scales, Drakes, Moa’s, etc. Are well done as well. It’s nice to see you’ve added some changed to the previous monsters you’ve had in your first game, and didn’t just say “You know what? There, monster finished!”, and threw it into the game. It feels as if you actually went back, looked at the designs, and changed around the monsters appearance, skills, etc. I can’t say I’ve played the Guild Wars expansions to the end, so, I am not too sure if you’ve had the phasing/stealth Scale in the previous game. But, I love that monster, it shows me, you’ve added in the Scales back into your games, not only as just the normal ones, but you’ve given these creatures some style, and almost as if they have a completely different feel to them, then the original Scales, absolutely love it.

The Charr, ah, who could forget those lovable creatures from the first Guild Wars, and in the back of your minds you thought to yourself, “I wish they’d come out with a Charr character creation already”, and 3 expansions later, all we get was Norn. Finally the time has come to sink your teeth into being one of the most desirable creatures in Guild Wars, the Charr. I can honestly say I am actually impressed with how the Charr was thought out, and presented within Guild Wars 2. The Charr seem to have the most customization out of every race in the entire game, which is a bonus… If you like playing as a Charr. Colors, sliders, features on the Charr are incredible, and almost gives me the feeling that this was the race they worked with the most. This is exactly the type of customization options that every other race deserved, yet, no other race received so much as Face Paint, or tattoo’s, which is disappointing. I love how you’re almost immediately able to pick out a Female Charr, from a Male Charr, (except the one in the story which looked awfully brutish).

Finally, the race I have personally awaited for a while ever since hearing about it, the Sylvari. This is by far the newest, and most interesting race I have ever seen. I remember seeing a Dev video, on the artist who was working with the Sylvari Race, and how at first she wanted to make an Elven like race, but then instead, scrapped the whole Elvish feeling (kind of), and turned the entire race into plants. I was so incredibly amazed at the concept art, and idea’s that were floating around the mind of the artist. This race is unlike anything I can say I’ve ever seen in any other game out there. This race has the “Elvish” feel to it, and many might say it’s just a “Glorified Elven Race”, which is true I suppose. But the way the armor, weapons, and looks of the Sylvari are just well done. I did however feel a lack of customization with this race too, and the Sylvari kind of felt rushed, of course, not as much as the Asura, but, the options felt a little too limited for what the race should have been. I’m not to sure why the customization could not have been more like the Charr’s, the Sylvari could have seen some Vine features, decals, roots, etc. something more along the line of what the Charr customization would have been better. I’d have to say the absolutely favorite attribute of the Sylvari, would be glowing in the dark, a real nice touch to a brand new race.

I felt the overall customization was great, gave me a good amount to play with, but to someone like myself, customization is almost what sells games for me now a days, at least Mmorpg wise. I don’t feel the need to look like tons of other players out there, and in this current day and age, I don’t feel anyone has an excuse to limit their customization, not after what Aion has thrown out there. I won’t get too much into it considering it’s an entirely different game, but, having more sliders for to play around with would be much more to my liking, and some others likings as well. It’s funny to just see some of the absurd, and messed up characters out there in other games, and it’s nice to have those entertaining people who make their character incredibly skinny, or just incredibly small and large. Brings a smile to my face when I see characters like that just going all out in PvP.

Long Story Short

  • Humans, and Norns felt way too bland
  • Asura had absolutely dreadful customization
  • Charr had by far the best customization
  • Sylvari felt like more could have been added to customization
  • Overall didn’t mind the character customization, but could have been so, so much better then what it is

Just A Little Review

Humor’s Review (thus far)

First off, I’d like to say good job ArenaNet, for trying new things with your game, and to many it has succeeded, and to quite a few players, it’s just become another “Retail” game they’ve picked up, and put down after they’ve reached the end.

Secondly, I’d like to say this right away. This is my own personal views on what Guild Wars 2 is to me, and in no way should represent what anyone else thinks of Guild Wars 2. At the end of each section are my thoughts in Short. If you’d feel like skipping through. It is a long post…

Character Customization

I can honestly say I was impressed to an “extent”. I felt the character customization was well done, the races all had their own unique and distinct look, and whether you like it or not, you’ll probably never see these races in another game, except maybe a Norn, and a Human, everything else is completely diffferent, and I love it.

The variety of Hairstyles, and a slider to control your characters height, and given a good option of body types was more then enough to make your character stand out from the rest, that is for sure, but could your character really stand out from possibly millions of others? Of course not. Given the amount of customization options, and the variety of different features, I could only say there’s a “select” few faces, hairstyles, and body types you’ll see a good majority of the population actually using, thus, giving us so many options to play around with feels almost obsolete. I have yet to see a plump round, and or fat Human, Norn, Sylvari, run around. As difficult as it may be to believe, not too many people enjoy using the “fat” options, and well the Asura, I don’t think there is actually a possible way to make a little round one.

It’s difficult to believe that a Human’s hairstyle couldn’t be bright red, more less brunette, I was sad to see the color palette options for some of the races, the Human in particular is an almost instant killer if I can’t choose a good shade of red, that actually looks more red then not. I really can’t say I understood the option to give other races loads of colors to play around with, however, when it comes to a Human, and Norn, “You’re either blond, black, or brown” for the most part. It definitely wouldn’t have killed ArenaNet to throw in some colors to play around with.

The races in this game are just well done, it’s nice to see Norn are ten times the size of everyone else, and actually have their racial “role” input into the game. I can’t speak much for the humans as they are incredibly generic for every game out there which isn’t bad. Now, let’s talk about the other races. The other races I have yet to see in any other game out there. Of course I speak of the Asura, Charr, And Sylvari.
The Asura I can say honestly didn’t impress me much, it’s an interesting character design, and it’s nice to see something other then Dwarves. I am just incredibly disappointed with the lack of customization with this race. It’s a little harsh to say I know, but this race feels completely rushed, why is it there is absolutely next to no customization for this race? One page of hairstyles, the colors aren’t too bad, that’s “if” you can find a hairstyle you like with your Asura, and it feels almost as if the female, and male genders are two different races all in itself. The male Asura are just disgusting, the face options are horrid, anyway you want to look at it, you’re basically making a mortified version of Stitch from “Leelo and Stitch” with no fur. It’s the closest thing I could compare the males customization to. Switching over to the female Asura, they look like cute mice with no fur. All their faces are completely different from what the males faces look like. The females faces, most of them look like they just belong, so why is it, the Asura male faces look so… “destroyed” is the word I want to use. I was definitely not impressed with the Asura customization at all.

Well, It looks as if someone read my thoughts exactly, though I’ve never reached level 80 myself yet, too much to do other then gaming I suppose.

I feel what you’ve explained throughout your post is very true in my experiences. I remember back in the day when ArenaNet went on, and on about how your personal story is going to be different from everyone else’s, however, in the end, it’s exactly the same, and maybe through the first 30 levels of gameplay has your story been different from 2 other people. Today I was just talking this over with my girlfriend, well actually last night, I was wondering whatever happened to everyone having some type of dramatic personally storyline, it seems we’ve lost our whole entire personal story for some type of end story that brings together all the races, which I’m fine with, but they should have at least tried to separate your personal story from the “Main” story a little more then what they have. However, ArenaNet still has the time, and I’m sure the fund to make a few changes, or even some major changes here and there, that could end up giving us an entirely new personal story all-together, I highly doubt it, but, things can happen.

I felt the voice acting was well done, and as you said, through the first 30 levels was great, now once you get passed level 40, all the voice actors start to sound exactly the same, I applaud the “We have over 10,000 dialogue in our game”, I do however disapprove that they used the same voice actor about 20 different times for “Not-so” important Npc’s, but one’s that still show a cut-scene. The work after level 40 does have that sort of rushed, and sloppy feeling to it, it’s hard for probably anyone to disagree, unless they’re not really paying much attention to the story at all, which I’m sure some players don’t really care, and skip through everything. But being the story driven game Guild Wars is known for, I too am sadly a little disappointed in where they took the game after level 40.

Good post Galen, many are afraid to tread your waters (Being honest).

Bored by the game- Reasons why [Merged]

I can say honestly, I would agree to some extent here.

At first before the game launched, and when all the hype was there, and then after playing the Beta, I felt a little disappointed afterwards. The thought of learning new skills along the way while using your weapons just sounded amazing, but after some time in the Beta, I kinda had the feeling of boredom. Granted that doesn’t stop me from playing Guild Wars 2.

It feels boring playing with the same five skills, over, and over, and over. Of course people may say there are utility slots, elite skills, etc. But how often is anyone actually using these skills? It’s not like the players can spam utility skills, due to the long cooldowns, thus, we’re forced to use our skills at more “Convenient” times of opportunity, or else we’ve just wasted 30 seconds to a 2-3 minute cooldown skill.

Yes, it’s possible to switch between weapons, and get a new skill set, swap out your utility skills, and play a bit differently, but why would we, why “should” we switch out what we enjoy playing with? Just to get rid of some boredom that will soon come back within the first 20 minutes of playing with a different weapon/skills? As said before skills, weapons, etc. are all used for different purposes, why should we switch out weapons just so players don’t feel incredibly bored to death, and just not playing Guild Wars 2 period?

I can’t say at times I don’t frown upon this system, it still is interesting, but when you’ve gone through every class, seen all the skills through PvP, and testing each class out just to find out what skills you’re building up to in a short 30 levels or so. It just doesn’t feel like it’s worth all that effort to even hop on Guild Wars 2, because you know nothing with the skills is actually different.

@ Cure For Living

In almost all the mmo’s I’ve played, every single bar I’ve had filled up with skills, I have used em all personally. My experiences come from Aion, Tera, SWTOR, WoW, EQ, EQ2, Lineage 2, etc.

You talk about a handful of skills you only use, and yes, I can agree with you on that, however, if you were only using a handful of skills, and making a mess of your skills, and rotation, there is absolutely no point in actually putting the skills, on your hotbar period. If people have their screens filled up with skills, they’re definitely using ALL the skills at one point or another. Just like Guild Wars 2, those skills could be seen as your “Utility” skills, and have a longer cooldown then most skills, and are only ever used at the appropriate time.

That being said, a simple fix in Guild Wars 2, at least in my eyes, would be new weapons, or new weapon types. By this, I mean you could have a different types of Greatswords, each “Type” with different skills. I would love to see a Warrior (My personal favorite, and main), have closer AoE’s such as the Guardian class, where they could spin around, and damage enemies near them, rather then just in a cone, or in a straight line. Different styles of weapons, and new weapons could be just the fix Guild Wars 2 needs. It might not add tons more skills to the game, but could add enough to keep the attention of people such as the original poster.

Why are a lot of gamers unsociable?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Humor.5763

Humor.5763

You don’t have to be in a group to be “sociable” in this game. I’m having fun with players who walk beside me for a couple DE’s without having to be in a group. I’m having fun in map chats.

I see a lot of people complaining about the lack of player interaction in this game, but it always sounds like they somehow magically expect it to happen. If you don’t say a word, you can’t expect the player next to you to start a conversation. If you put a little effort into it, you’ll have a fun discussion in no time. And if you are the quiet type, you can still play together with other people without it being awkward.

So no, I do not think GW2’s system of grouping and playing together makes the game less social. It’s the players themselves that make the community, not the mechanics of the game. And compared to GW1, this game has a more vibrant community, IF you are willing to put in the effort.

Couldn’t agree more with you. It’s not really expected that some random person who walks by you just outta no where speaks up, or feels like talking. Couldn’t have said it better then what you just did.

If you’re not willing to talk yourself, why should you expect others to talk as well? Sure, you get those few “odd” people who talk, but they do in fact make the game more interesting. And as the above person said, most people now a days I would imagine are using such programs such as Dolby, Skype, Vent, Team Speak, etc. Though, I don’t quite agree with his laziness of deciding not to type out words period, he does have his point.

Another reason you might not see people acting so Sociable, as you put it, is due to the fact there is a message suppression in effect right now, so you’re not able to just spam the chat, and flood it with useless, and mindless chatter, which is both looked down upon, and seen as a good thing in the eyes of mixed minds.

If you buy an mmorpg, and expect things to just happen, people to just talk, I’m afraid you probably bought the game for the wrong intention, and at the very least start communicating yourself, or simply play solo.

And to point out to an above poster who claimed that the game is too easy, quick experience, etc. And that he/she remembers back in the days of EQ, well, that’s just the sort of style all the players now a days are become bored of. It’s boring to search for parties hours on end, and if your gear isn’t up to par, you’re not able to join a group, thus, allowing you not to get the gear, because you’re not allowed in majority of the parties. Guild Wars 2, at least in my eyes, is breaking away from it, and doing a good job. The dungeons in explore mode are still heavily group based, and it seems they’re trying to have everyone, rather then a small minority of people enjoy the game. I can’t say I’m one who enjoys looking for a group forever, but I do enjoy being in a group for challenges such as dungeons to obtain gear.

Anyways… A good way to start being social, is simply to form a party, within a party, forms interesting conversations. I would suggest trying to invite others, and or talk during Dynamic Events (Not so much Dynamic, as Reoccurring…)

It would be difficult to do what you want I would think.

How is a player to know that you’re “Friendly” and want to actually help them out? They “Could” just throw a medic icon above any nearby players on the minimap, however, that would get a bit annoying after a while, realizing there are so many icons on your minimap, yet, no one dares try to resurrect the downed player.

Though, it is an interesting idea, and I wouldn’t mind seeing some way of it being thought through, and implemented into Guild Wars 2. Perhaps, they could show the medic icon on your minimap, and the downed player could click on the icon, and it would send a message to someone asking if they could revive a player. Then a selection could pop up saying “yes”, or “no”, to indicate whether that player has time, or “wants” I should say, to help you out. This way the player who is downed would know that waiting it out wouldn’t be such a bad idea. Of course having popup notices would get annoying, so the stuff I am suggestion could just be through the chat box, so it becomes less annoying.

Of course, you still could get “Trolled”, when a player accepts, are notified they’re coming, and they just choose not to show up. It would be a tough system to implement, but a nice feature I would think.

Maybe if you get requested to save a downed/dead player, a small reward could be offered such as experience and gold, (not out of the downed players pockets of course), as more of an incentive to attempt at rescuing them.

Oct 1st Patch Cause Performance Issues?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Humor.5763

Humor.5763

Just a question for anyone out there who decides to read this due to recent problems with their performance.

So here’s the thing, before the patch I could run GW 2 just fine, no fps issues, no downgrading graphics issues, nothing.

Here’s the odd part of the issue I am having right now. Before the patch I was able to run Guild Wars 2 without turning Vsync on. Now while I’m in The Grove (Sylvari starting area) all the animations are going all haywire on me, and whenever I open up a menu without Vsync enabled, I start seeing blue boxes, flickering issues, etc all across the entire HUD. Now, while I don’t mind running with Vsync on, I’d rather not be forced to do this.

And before anyone comes up with the idea of “Are your drivers up to date”, of course they are.

So, has anyone else at all noticed any performance issues such as mine? Or am I the only one who feels in order to stop this, I “Need” to have Vsync enabled?
————————————————————-
EDIT

Well, nevermind, even with Vsync turned on the issue still occurs in the center of The Grove… Sheesh, what gives..

Anyways… if anyone else would be kind enough to check out the Sylvari Grove, if they’re having trouble, and possibly confirm this is happening to just more then me, it’d be much appreciated. I don’t think anything has changed in, or on my computer within the last like 2 hours haha.

Excited to start a Guardian tonight.

I am personally more of a “Melee” type myself, I love being up close so my two classes are a Warrior, and Guardian.

Currently my Warrior is level 63, but here to talk about the Guardian. I have a level 33 Guardian on my second account (Yes I Have 2…), and have tried making one on my “Main” account, I do enjoy the Guardian class, and in some ways more then other I enjoy it more then the Warrior. This is because of the all their skills, and Sigils.

Sigils are an awesome way to buff your party, allies, and yourself, and could make a world a difference in battle, if you want to be able to withstand some hits, I’d say use the hammer, as the last combo in the hammer reduces all incoming damage for like 2 seconds, which isn’t bad, but if you spam the combo you’re gaining gaining a big bonus VS damage, especially if you increase the duration of your sigils within your traits, which I have never personally done, but thought about it, and could possibly make you “Spam” the sigils without them vanishing before you throw another one down.

Of course if you’re going for mad damage, I would be more tempted to go with Great Sword. I’ve heard of people making a “Crit Hammer” build, however, I just can’t see this being more useful then the trade-up of a little damage over massive speed. I personally would say the GS is stronger. I find myself using my skills with the GS like mad, there’s not a single skill wrong with the GS at all, you blind, you DoT like crazy, and all of your attacks are either sweep, or AoE.

As for my secondary choice, it’s a hard decision, I’ve been thinking of the Staff, and or Scepter. I would as most people would, use the staff, and shield/torch for kiting elites/Champions, etc, while I would use the staff for group buffs, and the wall, and speed. The staff is my primary Secondary weapon when I’m not concerned about kiting, due to the speed buff, for ease of transportation, and I even use it in battle, why just the other day in W vs W, I believe I solely made the difference in little “Group” battle I had with some others (Could be over exaggerating it), but the one skill I forget what it’s called, but if grants +12 might to ALL allies around you, which you’d think doesn’t make much of a difference, but when you’re going up almost 300-400 damage per normal hit, I could see that making a major difference in PvP.

I’ve also considered using a hammer/Staff build. This reason is due to almost being able to spam “Wall” skills. There’s a lot of tactics then I would say majority of people believe there is to be had with a Guardian. Having a staff, and hammer, which both have skills that could essentially turn the tide of the battle. The staff will create a wall in a horizontal line in front of you, while the hammer will create a circular wall that could trap enemies inside, or outside of the circle. I believe this will be seen as the “Combo” to go for in PvP, structured anyways, I would have to give this a try personally.

Anyways, all the weapons are pretty well good for the Guardian, the only one I am disliking so far is the Single Sword, and this is only due to the fact it’s normal combo last attack states “Attacks up to three enemies in a cone”, when really it only attacks one enemy once, 3 times, which you’d think is a good thing, however, I see it as bad.

Well, interpret what I said as you will. Enjoy the Guardian, or don’t, it’ll all fall on how you feel about the class.

The message suppression system appears to be overactive

I don’t really care to weigh in too much here as I don’t use “Map Chat” much.

However, I’d just like to point out, at least in my server (Stormbluff), I rarely see anyone talking in Map Chat at all. Whether it’s the same in every other server I wouldn’t know, I am simply stating, it sounds like ArenaNet is simply doing this as one of those “Just In case” scenario’s, I don’t mean to bash on them as well, and don’t mean anything by it. Simply asking, why do it, if the Map Chat, is rarely used.

I’ll maybe see it used for looking for groups for dungeons, however, there is no other manner of trying to look for groups period, other of course then the “Searching for party icon”, which I personally believe is absolutely useless since I’m going to guess a good few of the population have no clue how to use, or even that it exists.

I would personally suggest doing as many are saying, and remove the suppression, observe the situation a little more, and then if it “Needs” to be implemented, I would go ahead and do it.

Again, this is just coming from my server, I haven’t checked the server population in a while, and I seldom see people using Map Chat if at all.

I am not too sure if I would call this an actual “Bug”, but it’s improper, and just started to recently happen.

It turns out that while in “The Grove”, you’re not able to use the Guild Bank, nor represent your own Guild. Me and my girlfriend both have tried this out, multiple times, and nothing comes of it. However, I was just curious and moved to different area’s, such as Lions Arch, and found out I was then able to Represent the Guild, and use the Guild Bank there.

I believe I would “consider” this a bug, but it’s nothing major, nor doesn’t effect me too much. Just thought I’d bring it up, if no one has already, I"m not sure if it’s happening in other ’Homelands" either. Just The Grove to my knowledge.

Oh I was just wondering personally, I think I had already gotten the idea that it was scrapped, but I want to know the reason “Why” it was scrapped. As I’ve said, I heard something about the event treasures being glitched or something, and was just wondering if we’re ever going to see the Crab again. I thought it was a better event personally more so then the Hylek Monster thingy. Not that it’s not challenging at lower levels, but I think somethings are just best left alone.

We went from fighting a Giant monster which “Kind Of” felt epic, to something that just comes out of the water, and you don’t get the chance to use your “Underwater Combat” anymore.

I think I preferred seeing an event underwater earlier, then later.

I honestly have no clue whether or not this would be considered a “Technical Issue”, or if it would go on players helping players. However, ever since the last update, the most recent one anyways on the 9th, things haven’t quite been working properly for partying through storyline missions.

Me and my girlfriend who play together, haven’t had any troubles running through story missions until the most recent patch. And I guess my question is; is anyone else having the same issues as of the latest patch?

It’s quite frustrating at some points, and I’d like to see it fixed ASAP, also wondering if there’s a work around through this. I know before when it wasn’t working properly, all we had to do was reparty, which doesn’t appear to be working anymore. Thus, I’ve run out of idea’s. Tried relogging, quitting the game, multiple times, and nothing seems to be working.

Ranger Update - I feel it's bad

in Ranger

Humor.5763

Keep in mind, this is just coming from my point of view, but I am little disappointed with the Rangers update, particular, not being able to resurrect your animals during battle. Does this not kind of diminish the Rangers defense? From what I’ve seen playing with my girlfriend who’s the Ranger class (I am a warrior), but before hand, we’d always be striving to revive her pet when it died, as it would pull more agro then myself away from us, while we go all out on let’s say Champion monsters.

In my personal view, this was a stupid decision on your part ArenaNet, making the only way to revive a Pet out of combat, and or switching to another pet, which could just as easily die within another 10 seconds. So, what’s up with this update? I see this not as a good thing, rather just a poor decision on your part, to make Rangers feel let’s say… “Less useful” while in a group, or just playing solo, as the Pet is what takes the damage, or most of it, while soloing as well.

Again, this is just my personal opinion about the update. Do any other Rangers out there, feel that this was a fair, and just update?

Guild Wars 2 Freezes My Entire Computer

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Humor.5763

Humor.5763

So, this is my problem, and it’s very small, and it’s not really seen too often, maybe once or twice within I would have to say, an 8 hour span of playing Guild Wars 2.

The issue here is that just at the most random of all times, Guild Wars 2 will decide to “Freeze” on me. Now, it would be fine and dandy if it was just that, however, afterwards, I’m not able to alt tab, nor even get any use of my computer, forcing me to click the restart button on my desktop.

The weird thing is, I’ve only been having this issue, during the last Beta Phase, and upon launch.

My graphics cards are (or were) top of the line running on dual 7970’s, so, I hardly doubt it has anything to do with the graphics department. I have 16GB of RAM, so that definitely can’t be the problem, because let’s face it, no one is rarely going to ever use 16GB of RAM during playing games.

I haven’t noticed anything in the background running, or anything that could actually cause the game to just randomly freeze my entire computer, except one little issue I’ve noticed in AMD Catalyst Control Center. And that would be that the game is almost taking up 99% activity at all times. I find it odd that any game really would take up that much use. After monitoring it for a while, I’ve noticed the temp never reaches 60 degree’s, and always stays around 50-55 degree’s, but this is just like in the some of the ‘Bigger" games I’ve played that it’ll ever get that high. Running at 99% does have me a bit curious though.

If anyone could shed some light on this issue, it would be appreciated. Otherwise, I guess I’m simply going to have to live with restarting my computer every so often, which I’m almost positive isn’t good for it.

http://i.imgur.com/Ac4Eu.jpg

Here’s a screenshot I took while playing the game, and monitoring AMD CCC

There is nothing abnormal about your GPU’s running at 99% usage. That is totally normal. Any game that is properly optimised and GPU bound will make that happen.
For instance if I run my cards in SLI for this game they only run at 55%. Single GPU mode runs at 99%.

If your computer is freezing like that I suspect either your CPU is overheating or possibly your RAM is overclocked and you haven’t adjusted the voltage properly?
That’s my guess anyway.

That’s nice to know that it’s not a problem. I always get a bit nervous seeing it raise to 99%, it just doesn’t feel right, and no, as I’ve said, as as the picture shows, it only gets around 50-60 in temperature, which I’m assuming isn’t bad for AMD, since I’ve heard they’re “Supposed” to run at high temps.

I think the guy I quoted was onto something. I have noticed that before playing GW 2, my computers notifications would sometimes say “Display is not working properly”. And, I’ve just never seen it since, not while running Guild Wars 2, not ever since the first days of Tera.

But thanks for the information. Appreciate it. Any further help is still much appreciated. I tried deleting the file from MSE, and well, that didn’t work. I’m going to run the game tonight with MSE closed period, and see what becomes of it. If I get nothing, which I usually freeze once a night, I’ll keep testing this for a while, until I can confirm it actually is MSE screwing me over.

Again, more information is still appreciated. Thanks to everyone who’s responding.

You could try to down clock the GPU Memory a little to see if this helps.

Or you could go to the Event-Viewer of Windows, and look
for an error which could have something to do with your problem.

If you don’t know how:
go to: Control Panel \ Administrative Tools \ Event-Viewer.
There on the left side expand “custom views” and click on Administrative Events, now you should see the latest Errors.
My guess would be something like: “Level: Warning – Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding” or something like that.

Ah, that is always helpful to know, useful to know what happened just before the crash. Anyways, I think I’ve found the problem out. Every time the crash occurs, it says;

Session “Microsoft Security Client OOBE” stopped due to the following error: 0xC000000D

And then right afterwards, I see another message right before the crash which says:

The previous system shutdown at 12:16:02 AM on ?9/?10/?2012 was unexpected.

As you can see, the crash just happened again, 30 minutes ago.

I’m using the security program, “Microsoft Essentials”, which was recommended to me by a a buddy of mine who works at EA Games. However, I do know my brother also is using the same security program that I use as well, yet, he has no issue’s whatsoever with his Guild Wars 2 game.

Do you think it could have something to do with the program?

And If you don’t mind me asking, what would you suggest clocking my GPU to?

Of course, this is only if you check back in the forums. If not, I suppose I’ll shut off my MSE, and maybe go back to using Norton.

Thanks for the help in advance, and prior to this. Helped me a lot. Learn something new everyday.

Guild Wars 2 Freezes My Entire Computer
