Legendries’ aren’t really legendary in this game due to how many have them and it was a good idea up until they decided to make it another gold sink in the game that has many gold sinks already.

In WoW legendaries were given for free to every player for last 4 years. Compared to that in GW2 legendaries are truely rare. And if you see a person with it you can be 95% sure he played the game a lot to craft it (100% sure if its HoT legen).
Considering that there are a lot of people with legendaries – we can’t know that without statistics. Personaly I think they just a) attract attetion; b) every owner transmutates weapons into them on their alts.

What is required from PvP? Do all the Legendaries require something from PvP?

Gift of Battle is obtainable only as WvW track. Thats like 6 hours of Eternal Battlegrounds with a booster.

I’m pretty sure that is all they were intended to be: a taste, not a replacement.

You know, that is called teasing. Giving a little peek on something you can never touch. For me personally it is very depressing.

[Suggestion] couple of new targetting options

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Ider.1276

Personally I would disable targeting hotkey in WvW at all. For me “T” creates a problem known in many mass-pvp games with targeting combat (mostly Eve Online) as “F1 monkey”. Players are required only to press the button to target leaders target and gun it down. No skill or anything else needed.
I’m ok with leader marking priority targets, but players at least must lock it with there own hands. Not pressing T and drinking tea, like it was on my previous WvW experience. And if you can’t lock leaders target manualy – well, thats the point, mass combat can be messy and some personal skill is required to coordinate.

A lot of people with jobs have ‘only’ an hour to play at any one time- perhaps after putting the kids to bed and their own bedtime. Hence why DS is such a bad design. The map itself should always be accessable to be able to complete it and grab the mastery points.

Locking content behind ‘mega’ events, timers, having to search outside sources, bringing in masteries locked behind all sorts of ‘content’ that looks like it fell off SMB8’s cutting room floor, etc to name but a few, puts people off.

This is a very harmful approach for game design. All this “I’m adult, I don’t have time for this, so make it suit me”. If you want to go to cinema with friends/family you manage your free time to fit it in. That is what adults do, right? Work more today so you can have more rest tomorrow, and you have your 2 free hours after work or on a weekend. What you don’t do is bombarding film directors with demand to make AAA movies 30 min long.
Same with Dragon Stand. It was ment to be a long, hard and epic fight. Its the directors vision if you wish. If you can’t find time for it – sorry, this content is not for you.

You can cast an AoE spell by pressing its button 2 times. It will be cast were your cursor is, ofk. No detargeting occures that way.

I love GW2, but dislike HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Ider.1276

Ider.1276

I like HoT-design maps. At least anytime you come there something is happening, and it leads to some other thing happening, and at the end to a great climax. Core Tiria gameplay is just like “running around, chopping timber … Oh, an event, that tells nothing interesting and gives nothing valuable. Move alone”. And 3 new maps are even worse. They are basicly farm maps. Events are repetative as hell (we should guard this kodan bonfire! And 8 more! Oh noes, one is extinguished! Light it up and guard again!). Everyone is running like crazy and tries to farm as much berries as he can. Player cooperation and friendliness are about zero. One person is downed by vets that are guarding berries – naaah, not my problem, better gather those berries.
I really hope new addon maps will not like Bitterfrost / Ember / Bloodstone. HoT ones are just so much better in every way. They really have that MMO feel of lots of players contributing and working together, while 3 new maps have a feel of a botnet farming magic/berries. And for the casual players just put down more repeatable hearts, they love it.

A lot of season 1 has been rolled out in the form of fractals, which is a nice compromise.

Fractals inherite locations, bosses, but not the story part. You can’t tell what is the story behind nightmare tower on dredge facility if you just play fractals. For the new player it is just like: “What are Rox and Braham doing here? Is it a 6-meter tall metal charr and a dredge Gurren-Lagann? Why is there a tree growing from a glowy krait? Whats happening?!” And thats a pity.

The Commander cannot say what the race can or cannot do. We are not Queen Jennah, Zojja, Phlunt, Rytlock, Knut, Eir, Caithe, Logan or Pale Tree. We are just a small character, we only kill dragons and we are not meant to rule over the Races.

So I think, that we won’t visit Hoelbrak, because Norns can do whatever they like, even if they will bring the catastrophe to other Races. We really cannot say to them: ‘your belief is stupid and you are very ridiculous.’

I am a norn. I got the scroll that was used to crack the tooth. So why I have less rights to decide the fate of my people than some angsty teenager? Why do you think Braham is so important that he can decide the fate of my people alone?
And, yeah, Braham’s beliefs =/= norn beliefs. And Brahams beliefs are ridiculois and I want to say it in his face right in front of all Hoelbrak. With my fist. Its a norn way.

We have no control over DE, we’re not even in it, and as far as I can tell he’s not joined our guild either.

DE is dead. Died with its heart and mind – Eir. And it is true that PC was not part of the guild and therefor has no right to “revive” the guild. Thats why we created Dragon Watch, a direct successor of DE.
But. PC was a friend and unofficial member of DE, starting from our DE mentor, helping to reassemble the guild and fighting side by side against Zhaitan. Thats why PC has a right to carry on the heritage of the guild, unlike Braham, who was a total stranger to everyone there but Eir, and don’t even have a right to complain.

There is one “but” here. We don’t know how Braham tracked down the scroll. He could just “borrow” the research of that charr priory scholar from Hoelbrak. Or Jormag could whispered into his mind where to find it. After all that great “effort” during the boss fight i wouldn’t be surprised.
And that is why (for me) the legend of breaking the Fang is ruined. I was expacting that the fang will be cracked by a true hero, who accomplishes it by hard work and self development. Or at least is blessed by the Spirits. Not the PC, of course, but some kind of iconic norn like Jora, Eir, Asgeir Dragonrender. Now the Fang is chipped with a spell from a scroll (ok). By a person who neither created the spell, nor defeated a terrible monster to obtaine it. You could replace Braham with Taimi and nothing would change: even a disabled asura girl can repeat the “legendary” Braham’s quest to chip the tooth. Exept Taimi could locate the scroll much faster. That is not a legend I would be proud to put near Jora’s or Asgeir’s.
Besides, whining that you need no one to defeat a boss, getting comrade down, standing aside all the boss fight, and taking the loot at the end has a special word in gw2 comunity. And that word is “leecher”.

Give him a time out from what? From Dragon’s Watch? He’s not a member at this point, since he did not agree to join. Send him home? That’s where he went to crack the fang. How do you propose to keep him there and by what right? The best you can do is to withdraw the offer and find someone else to fill the spot in DW.

Or we can smack him in the face and take the bow enchanted with a scroll we earned while he was standing there and doing nothing. And Braham can walk anywhere he wants from there, risking only his own life, not thousands of norns.

The only mistake Anet made with Marjory situation is that they gave the player an option to disagree with her going with Lazarus. This is why this option was a mistake:
1) It doesn’t change anything. Marjory will anyway depart with Lazarus, no matter of your approval or disapproval. Illusion of choice is always a bad thing. If you can’t make a branching path, just stick with one plot, but a good written one.
2) It is just illogical. Why would you want a powerfull and cunning being vanish into thin air and continue plotting god knows what without any surveillance?
3) It drives Pact Commander and Marjory out of character.
If you approve Marjory’s plan everything seems logic, Jory is polite to you. If you disapprove everything goes nuts and Marjory is rude. Like if the devs are punishing you for the wrong choice. So why there is a choice then?

In LS2 there was an episode, where Inquest dissected sylvari, and they clearly stated, that there were no reproductive organs at all. Of course, we can assume, that sylvari can grow these organs in a century or so, byt we can also assume that they can grow into an elder dragon and sneeze icecream. Assumptions are a vague thing, especially if they are not based on facts.

Sylvari have no reproductive organs. Without Pale Tree (which gives birth to new sylvari) they will simply extinct. It is not about growing up, it is about survival.

The Pact is not done. But it is decimated and beheaded. The whole airfleet is gone. And that was a major pact force, that brought Zhaitan down. Rebuilding the fleet is a tremendes amont of resorces and working power. And the Pact is not a government organisation, by the way.
Infantry casualties are also catastrofic. Recruiting is problematic: volanteers usually enlist on a wave of enthusiasm (like victory over Zhaitan) or when their homeland is directely threatened. We have neither of this now. Victory over Mordemoth is a very bitter one, and Jormag+Primordus are not even close to Zhaitan’s assault on Lion Arch or Mordemoth blocking waypoint network. Their “active” state is very passive, as for me.
And the most significant thing is the loss of the leader. Trahearn was not part of any Order, and that was part of the deal of him becoming Pact marshal. Who can replace him? Of course, his right hand, Pact commander, who was respected enough by all three orders. But we refused, and now Pact HQ is paralized by political struggle. Who can unite and lead them again? I personaly don’t know. And I bet a gold coin they dont know either.
But if I were to answer a question "who can be the next Pact leader?" I can thing only of two people. First is Pact commander. The second is... well... Lazarus. I know he is a mursaat and a "bad guy" to everyone by deafult. But with that Bloodstone firepower he could be respected by Vigil. All that arcane and ancient lore makes him closer to the Priory. And mursaat are very good in intrigues an cunning schemes, just like Whispers. And he is not a part of any order. And I personaly think that he is more interesting than Trahearn as a character (even considering Lazarus had like 3 lines yet). Though all of it is almost impossible because of his race reputation.

Braham will probably redeem himself from this, but he feels like he has more substance now, even if he is dead wrong on mostly everything.

No thanks. If his actions will lead to nornocide I personaly don’t want him to be redeemed. Deaths of the thouthands can’t be redeemed by “I’m sorry, boss” or even by “heroic” sacrifice. For me, this is the line. If Verdant Brink 2.0 happens, Braham’s legend should be put near Svanir’s, making his name a curse.

Try to imagine how you might feel if you’d been largely estranged from your mother for most of your life, spent 3 years getting to know her and realising you actually have a lot in common and then just as you were starting to get close you thought she’d been killed, found out she was alive and then she was killed, right in front of you.that.

Yes, she was killed in front of Braham. And he had his vengeance. He was there, he helped killing Mordremoth. And his behavior then, right after his mother death, was a ton more reasonable. After taking down Mordy Braham was in depression or even acseptence. And nor he is back to pure mindless anger. People brains don’t work that way! How can you write a grieving character and screw up 7 stages of acsepting grief?

What i find a little sad about Braham is, because he is one of the most prominent Norn in-game, people assumes he represents the usual Norn. And yet, ANet has shown us a very different side of them multiple times

What Braham does contradicts all the Wild Spirits virtues.
Wolf spirit is all about teamwork, but Braham doesn’t need friends or a team, he wants to kill Jormag alone (he actually says that, yep).
Raven prefers cunning plans and research. Can Braham understand how the scroll’s fire magic works? No. Is he planning to give it to Priory so they could figure it out? No. Has Braham any king of plan? Of course no. (he actually says that!)
Snow Leopard prefers a quite, stealth approach. Waiting for the right moment, striking in the softest spot. Well, it is the only strategy plausible enough, if all you have against the elder dragon is a kitten bow. But Braham can’t wait a few days, so who cares.
Even Bear spirit, like in the posts above, understands, that you should act according to your capabilities. The prime one is that you can’t kill a dragon alone. Braham couldn’t kill an icebrood minotaur even with the super firy bow. You can’t kill a dragon using a handfull of people. Desteny Edge tryed, and now Snuff and Glint are dead. Your nation can’t kill Jormag alone. Norn tried, and it got Owl spirit killed.
By the way, maybe Owl spirit virtues? Well, it faced Jormag and died horribly. I guess that is what Braham trying to do.

I can forgive Braham being a jerk and an idiot, being rude to PC, etc. But I will never forgive him if he’ll lead Norn to Verdant Brink 2.0. And he will, obviously.
My favourite race will be completely annihilated because of a whiny boy who even can’t logically explain his actions. Eir died because of Trahearne’s reckless assault on elder dragon, so lets recklessly assault another elder dragon to throw away lifes of other mothers, fathers, siblings.
And I really dont understand Pact commander. In previous chapter he threatens demigodic Lazarus for almost no reason (I ever felt sorry for that mursaat for a moment). And now he is afraid to beat up the living kittens out of a unstable teen who wants to push a global norn self-destract button.
