As far as the greatswords thing goes, let me point out something from historical fact for you to chew on.
A longbow, when talking about a longbow used by the English Archers that were so famous, was typically anywhere from four to six feet tall(On the high end for big siege bows) and sometimes had drawstrengths of upwards of 150lbs.
And these archers had to be able to fire at incredible rates for extended periods of time. So anyone that uses a bow for any length of time is going to develop some serious upper-body muscle.
To add further food for thought, when a shipwreck from around those times was pulled up, they were actually able to identify archers just from the bone structure of their arms, because the bones in their lower and upper arms had actually deformed from the constant stress and use, showing that they had incredible strength in the drawback-related muscles.
A greatsword would be nothing to pick up and wield, and a Ranger could quite possibly beat someone like a Warrior in an arm-wrestling contest quite easily.

Mine ended up being Illushia. I’m not sure exactly where it came from, to be honest. But I did end up making an alt, and naming her Lynshier. It was originally going to be Lynir, but I thought changing it to be Lynshier made it sound a little closer to Celtic or Gaelic or whatever they call it. =x

Ah. I’ve never seen the metal, wasn’t aware. Thanks for that!
I suppose I can’t rule out it might be enchanted metal, but it definitely doesn’t look it. It looks more like some kind of crystal to me, at least.
That’s possible too.
I would simply prefer to leave my options open rather than try to rule something out with so little evidence one way or another.

I don’t know about that. I don’t think the Sylvari use metal. All of the Sylvari-made gear looks to be exclusively crafted of plant materials and occasionally stone.
There’s metal in the Grove in a few places, so they definitely use it.
Aside from that, they don’t seem like they limit themselves on anything as far as I can tell. If it grows in the dirt, in a tree, or comes out of the ground, they seem like the type to find a use for it.
Aside from that, unless you can make wood or leaves into something as hard or sharp as metal, not using it would just be dumb.
Sylvari may be somewhat naive and new to the world, but they’re certainly not idiots.

Well I’m talking from a PvE perspective, though the tips on staying alive will certainly help me out there as well!
I guess I’ll try out a mix of gears as I level and see how things work out.

Well, I can’t see the greatsword’s blade in the model viewer for whatever reason, and there weren’t any readily available pictures of it that I could find in google, so I can’t see it to tell you one way or another.
It’d say it’s possible for them to be made of sap. But it’s also just as possible, at the moment, for them to have been made of some sort of metal, magically enhanced or otherwise.

That doesn’t automatically mean they’re from the Pale Tree though. The -only- weapon we know of that she made was Caladbolg, and the weapon makes you nearly invincible.
The Firstborn who originally wielded it was only injured after fighting off an entire army of undead alone, and was stated to have been able to easily kill off a very powerful Lich, or at least would have stood a chance, if the weapon hadn’t been stolen.
We know of no other weapons she’s made. And since the cultural weapons are lacking any of these mystical, nigh invulnerable qualities, I’d say that’s proof that they’re in fact -not- from the Pale Tree, and likely crafted by highly skilled Sylvari weapon and armorsmiths, hence their cost and power.

Sylvari have blacksmiths, but they do seem to make armor out of leaves, bark, and the wood of trees. So it’s entirely possible they can either coax trees into growing stronger wood(Like the Ironwood from Dragon Age), leaves, or other materials, or they know ways of refining these things(Along with mundane metals) into usable and effective weapons.
We also know that they’re able to create powerful enchanted arms and armor.
In the Green Knight questline, if you rescue the smith you find out that he created powerful enchanted armor for Bercilak that prevents his death.
So, while the Pale Tree -is- capable of creating weaponry from herself, we also know that the Sylvari themselves are perfectly able to arm themselves without her direct help.

If the devs go out of their way to place them into the world and then give them some lore background and justification on it, I’m not just going to turn my head and go “Nah”.
I’ll take them at their word for it. Since, you know. They designed the game and all.

I’m just starting out a brand-new Thief since I’ve seen a few people playing one before and the whole jumping-flipping-beating face thing looks like a lot of fun. I’m enjoying mine so far, but I’m sort of at a loss of what to stat for.
I’m going to go for Dagger/Dagger because out of all the weapon combinations(I have a huntsman and a weaponsmith so I made the low level versions of everything to try it all out) I enjoyed that one the most.
What should I go for? Power? Condition Damage? Precision? What would benefit me the most?

They’re problematic for other reasons, as well. The existence of waypoints as “go from anywhere to any waypoint” is a bit rough on a lot of dramatic tension. For instance, I played a story instance that involved a fort being overrun and the defenders having to fall back. Once we were out of danger, we… had to run to our escape method. Nobody just used their waypoints to get away from the enemy, we had to all go by a traditional method of travel. It was rather jarring, if you think waypoints are common in-game. And given that you can use them from your first moments as a character, it seems unlikely that guards and soldiers are barred access to them because they’re not special enough.
That may be part of what we don’t know about them. Personally I think they work mostly as advertised, with the big difference that you have to actually be -at- one in order to go to another one.
That’s why I mentioned that we simply need more information on them. We know they exist and that they work. What we don’t know is how exactly they work or what their limits are.

There’s also several waypoint mentions later in the game in the Orr zones. For one, there’s certain waypoint beacons that ‘speak’ the same way Golems do, very haltingly, and they’ll tell you that they’re open now or closed now due to friendlies being nearby or not, and you can click on some of them for more information.
They’re definitely in the game and in the lore, but to what extent isn’t clear. However, it’s very obvious that they’re not simply a gameplay mechanic. And on that token, neither is the Mists. They’re very clearly mentioned by quite a few NPCs.
Both things exist. We just need more information on them.
